Re: [CGUYS] Apple Lied?
According to Elgato, the latest version should run but have a few issues with exporting, etc. My own experience with it in Snow Leopard is that it would take a long time to start up and then would get as far as showing the controller, but then I would get a spinning beach ball and no TV viewer and I would have to force quit it. Eventually, I got the TV window to show at times and I am not sure how, but what seems to work is to start up the application before plugging in the tuner, and I am still having to do that. If I forget, then subsequent attempts to launch the app will fail for me unless I force quit all the EyeTV processes in activity monitor. As I said, this is just my own experience. Elgato says that the most recent versions of their software should work under Snow Leopard except for minor issues, and I haven't seen my issue discussed on their forums. They have released a beta to address their known issues (look for it in their support section), but it hasn't fixed mine. Thankfully, the workaround I've come up with is only slightly inconvenient. I've filed a support ticket and expect a fix will be issued eventually. This EyeTV issue is my only real problem with Snow Leopard so far, and it is not enough to make me want to go back to plain ol' Leopard. From: jor17...@gmail.com Ahh, thanks for the comments. Can you be specific about the issues with EyeTV. I guess there aren't many of us using EyeTV but I'd be interested if EyeTV updates or OS updates fix the issues you are seeing. * ** List info, subscription management, list rules, archives, privacy ** ** policy, calmness, a member map, and more at http://www.cguys.org/ ** *

Re: [CGUYS] NEWS FLASH: Apple adds date to menu bar !!!
Precision in language and proofing of writing are often useful, I've found. It's not the day, but the date. And, yes, you can already display the month and date by means of the pull down menu in Leopard. * OK, so this is not of interest to you guys, but in Leopard, and I believe in Tiger, you've been able to display the day and month in the menu bar using the settings found in System Preferences-International-Formats for some time. You might have to mess with it to figure it out. But it works. * ** List info, subscription management, list rules, archives, privacy ** ** policy, calmness, a member map, and more at http://www.cguys.org/ ** *
[CGUYS] Power strip
Does anyone know of a power strip that has separate power switches for each outlet? Doesn't absolutely have to have surge suppression, although that would be a plus. I think I've mentioned it before, but you aught to read a book called The New New. Sorry, can't remember the author. But you get the idea that these collusion's by competitors you speak of were brought on by MS's actions themselves. The book mainly centers around Jim Clark and Netscape and his new start up at the time, Healtheon. Even though Netscape won the fight, so to speak, Jim Clark wasn't going through that crap again. So he created Healtheon, took it public and the stock value went through the roof. He immediately turned around and sold it to MS. I thought it was a great way to in a sense flip MS the bird. Re: [CGUYS] Power strip
I use a Woods Maximum Protection Surge Suppressor, #5174. The only place I see it on the web anymore is: http://www.plccenter.com/buy/WOODS/5174 While I can't vouch for the website for ordering, this surge suppressor is great for being able to control different banks of equipment easily. It has 5 individually switchable outlets and 6 switches which includes a master switch for shutting everything down. Also has a phone in/out. I really like mine and wish I could find a couple of more at a reasonable price (I got mine for $3 at a used equipment store). Hopefully, there are more choices out there but I haven't found them yet. Richard P. Re: [CGUYS] Power strip
Good God I too thought I would quickly google up something like my Memorex Power Center that I've used for ages, but I can't find anything like it anywhere. Twenty minutes of searching is beginning to lead me to believe these things went out with lighter LCD monitors, or Energy Star peripherals? As I recall we used to get these practically free at Staples OfficeMax. Certainly sturdy enough to hold a heavy CRT monitor. Re: [CGUYS] M$ Google-Bashing Dirty Tricks
From what I understood, Healtheon was an answer to the call for health reform by Hillary Clinton. Jim Clark thought it would be easy if we just did away with the waste. An organized informational database seemed perfect. So when you look at where we are today in the healthcare reform debates, I'm not surprised if what really happened might be mired. I'm just reporting what I read in the book. And Jim Clark's not wanting to get into it again with MS, so he sold it to MS to pay for his new sail boat that was the largest single masted sailboat in the world when it was finished. Don't know if it still holds that title. Probably not.
