Re: [CGUYS] PC and MAC interchanges
Quoting Michael Wosnick mwosn...@rogers.com: Hi all, ---8--8- In short, if I bit the bullet and went Mac, what will be the advantages and what will be the hurdles I will face in needing to stay fully compatible and connected to my PC-based world out there? And, while I am pretty technically savvy, I am not really in the mood for a long learning curve either - how truly intuitive and easy will it be to re-transfer what I do with proficiency on my PCs and learn to do it on a Mac instead? No one says you have to give up the PCs to get a Mac. A Mac will play perfectly well on your (otherwise PC) network. And you don't even have to spend a lot of money on a Mac you may not like. Get something used/refurbed, or a Mac Mini (if you have an extra monitor hanging around). As others have said, Office/Mac should be pretty well compatible with Office/Win. If you're not sure about compatibility with work, you can take a Mac file to one of your own PCs to try it out. If you want to get off the MS bandwagon, there's always OpenOffice and Firefox/Thunderbird. All available on Mac and PC (and free). I'm not too sure about the OpenOffice compatibility with MS Office though. As far as usability goes, there certainly are differences. It'll take time to figure out the OSX way of doing things. I'm more of a keyboard short cut kind of user, and I still haven't found my way around Mac shortcuts. It took me the longest time to figure out that the symbol in the menu lists for the Option key was actually supposed to be the Option key. It looks sort of like 3/4 of an X and the key doesn't have that symbol on it. He _sent_ spam to the list, I _told_ him he sent spam to the list, and offered suggestions how to avoid same in future. No hostility intended or included; it's all in your mind. That may be, but I would hardly call it spam. He was (presumably) asking if the list was down. According to Wikipedia: Spam has several definitions, varying by the source. * Unsolicited bulk e-mail (UBE)?unsolicited e-mail, sent in large quantities. * Unsolicited commercial e-mail (UCE)?this more restrictive definition is used by regulators whose mandate is to regulate commerce, such as the U.S. Federal Trade Commission. * Any email message that is fraudulent.[citation needed] * Any email message where the sender?s identity is forged, or messages sent though unprotected SMTP servers, unauthorized proxies, or botnets. Let's see: *He did send his message to *everybody* on the list. But so did you. *I didn't see a sales pitch in there. *Maybe he wasn't *really* trying to find out if the list was down. *He did use a Gmail account, so maybe he's not who he claims to be. Every time the list goes quiet the number of posts asking if the list is working rises exponentially daily, and there's no need for it. FiOS *is* available to multi-unit buildings. Some friends of mine have it (in Annapolis). I don't know if they have to build it in with the building (their's is a fairly new building), or if they can retrofit. It seems like apartments/condos would be fairly profitable pickin's for Verizon since the potential customers are--literally--right on top of each other. Re: [CGUYS] iTunes Can't Find Files Problem?
Quoting Richard P. [EMAIL PROTECTED]: What is the proper/best sequence to get the music into iTunes so that it will stay there? WinXP, iTunes 7.5.0.20 Well, to start with, an exclamation point means that iTunes couldn't find the tune in the location that it's looking. So if you copied your file to My music told iTunes where it was, then moved it, then it can't find it any more. Unless you have iTunes organizing your iTunes folder, it just copies the location, and leaves the file in place. What you probably want to do is have iTunes keep your iTunes folder organized. In Windoze, it's: EditPreferencesAdvanced tabGeneral. Make sure that Keep iTunes Music folder organized is checked. That will move any file(s) that you want to add to your iTunes library to your iTunes folder (which you can specify if you want to keep it on an external drive), and put it into the proper sub-folders. You don't need to import each song one at a time. You can grab whole folders to import. (It's an Apple product. Of course it's smart enough to do that.)
