Re: [courier-users] dsbl / ordb - blacklist

2002-06-13 Thread Armin Fuerst

I entered the dsbl / ordb - blacklist as an Other DNS-based blacklist,
and it is generally working - with a big BUT:
The messages are filtered, but the sender doesn't get an error-message, so
he assumes the mail was sent/received.

What mail server software are your senders using?

only courier. there is no other product involved.

Check if the messages do not have any other recipients who are
unreachable. DSNs will not be sent until all recipients go through or
 fail.

this all appeared in test-messages with 1 sender and 1 recipient.
in the log-file, i only see one line:

Jun 11 12:14:35 mail courieresmtpd: started,ip=[:::209.69.178.212]

this is a blacklisted ip-address in ordb, which allows even simple relays.
but when i tcpdump the interface, i see a lot of smtp traffic.

Something like AMAVIS or Qmail-Scanner, I'm searching the web, but it

i'm currently looking for such a solution, too. there might be a

look at it. this is a link to a demo version i was told by their

i think the best solution would be a scanner that can be entered as
custom local mail delivery and that would after a succesful check would
pass it back to courier (maildrop or sendmail-wrapper).

Hi

I have been usin RAV Antivirus for sendmail for a while, and the product
is easy to set up, and works fine. RAV is also available for Courier-MTA
on Linux and Solaris SPARC. This is a commersial product, but it isn't
too expensive.

If this is of interest, check out http://www.ravantivirus.com/

perhaps there is a way to combine it with amavis? i have the feeling that
it won't be too difficult to integrate amavis into courier without using
filters, but i didn't suceed yet. basically, a very simple script can do
the job:
* retrieve the mail from STDIN
* extract all parts (recursively on archives)
* start a virus-scanner
* depending on the result either forward the original mail to maildrop or
sendmail-wrapper or create an error-mail and quarantaine the original
  mail

and exactly this is the basic idea of amavis. my problem is that amavis
already expects some (redundant?) parameters. i started a discussion about
this issue in the amavis ml, but there is not too much response yet...

Consider that - since pandasoftware.com is a spammer - you may have
difficulties in communicating with them or receiving updates if
you use DNS blocking lists.

In particular, they are listed by the Spamhaus project:
http://spamhaus.org/SBL/sbl.lasso?query=SBX2535
http://spamhaus.org/SBL/sbl.lasso?query=SBX2536

We also have their domains in our local blocking list after they
spammed our customers and ourselves.

[courier-users] mail from: with a spoofed local address

Could someone point me to the place in the Courier documentation

Re: [courier-users] Outlook 2000 and courier-imap

2002-06-13 Thread David

Some of the Outlook clients are losing connection to the server with
Outlook reporting Courier-IMAP server shutting down. Looking through the
source, this only occurs when the client sends a LOGOUT message. Syslog
shows LOGOUT for that user. Any idea why this may be occurring? Outlook
gives a message suggesting connection was lost, possibly due to timeouts.
I see the client opening two or three simultaneous connections when it
starts up.

Also, is there any way to log the traffic to/from the IMAP server so I can
trace this further?

Many thanks,

David

the server (upgraded from MS Exchange).

It's now having permanent trouble. Outlook clients regularly get messages
Unable to download new headers. In typical helpful Microsoft fashion,
there is no further detail given.

My syslog however reports that May 31 19:21:16 mail imapd: DISCONNECTED,
 ip=[:::172.16.1.1], headers=0, body=0

body is usually, but not always, 0. user is sometimes set. The time
between login (where applicable) and disconnection is also variable.

The clients are all behind a firewall on the same IP address. The
configuration file has been altered to allow 100 daemons and 100 from the
 same IP address (MAXPERIP).

Despite the fact that there are 60 clients trying to connect during the
day, there are never more than 20-30 imapd processes running (though this
could just be a symptom of connection trouble).

I thought it might be a timeout issue so I manually recompiled with a new
SOCKET_TIMEOUT of 600 and then 1200. This did not help.

Searching on google revealed Outlook has problems with IDLE, so I disabled
the IDLE command. This also did not help.

I'm somewhat perplexed. Ideally I would like to log all connections with
'recordio' but Courier-IMAP does not function under recordio (even when
run using tcpserver rather than couriertcpd).

If anyone has experienced/solved this problem with Outlook, or has an
idea how to log all the IMAP connection data, please let me know.

 Cheers,

 David

Install the openssl-perl RPM. It contains this program.

THANX I have find it !

And
since you're running RedHat, may I recommed that you build an
RPM of courier and install it? The installation is much
simpler, all the necessary files will be installed and

Yes.. But I have a LITTLE problem with the build of RPM, but if you

Go install Courier-IMAP on the Linux box, it'll probably be faster than the

Courier-IMAP is a rather thin layer between IMAP and the filesystem, so all
your performance tuning belongs in the operating system.

How is the Maildrop package going to change ?

I would like to use maildrop for processing vacation notices and

Currently, my LDAP/ Courier/ Postfix setup does not use Maildrop.

I have kernel level qoutas set for mail right now. But, I had to write some

give users advanced notices of their quota usage.

How do I setup quotas using postfix and mysql with courier imap? Do I
need to install maildrop and configure postfix to use maildrop for
 virtual accounts?

You're better off downloading the current development builds. The quota
API is about to change so you might as well start using it. You do not
necessarily need to install maildrop, you can use deliverquota to deliver
 mail to quota-enforced maildirs. --

[courier-users] integrating postfix, maildrop and courier-imap

2002-06-13 Thread Ben Rosengart

Hello courier users,
I'm using postfix to deliver into some Maildirs, and courier-imap to
show the mail to users. Well, that's the plan, anyway. I'm stuck on
this: mapping recipient email addresses to Maildirs. Courier-imap
does this fine, using the userdb mechanism. I can do the same thing
with postfix's virtual delivery agent, but then I have the same
information duplicated in postfix's and courier-imap's configurations.

I've been playing with using maildrop to do the actual delivery, which
is the long-term goal in any case. I can't seem to get it to read the
userdb, though. I built it with --enable-userdb, but when I run
maildrop -d [EMAIL PROTECTED], it says invalid user, and a ktrace
shows that it's not even attempting to look at the userdb.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

libgdbm.so.2, the runtime linker (ld.so) loads this library. It should be

Solaris's dumb ld.so probably searches only /lib and /usr/lib by default,

The same reason, likely.

[EMAIL PROTECTED], I keep receiving a User Unknown error. I guess that this
means that courier recognizes the message has a local domain but can't find a
recipient for it.

I tried adding

[EMAIL PROTECTED]: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

in etc/courier/alias/neopeak.com and ran makealiases, but without success.

Any help appreciated. There is obviously something I am missing..

Thank you,

Cedric

[courier-users] How do I ...?

2002-06-13 Thread geoffrey

Perhaps this has been covered on this list before, but I haven't
unearthed where. So, bear with me.

Scenario:

I'm trying to configure courier-imapd-ssl on a gentoo Linux server. I
have courier imapd installed, and the plain server works very well.
Also, the mkimapdcert app makes a demo cert that works. Now, I know
this is really an Openssl question, but noone on openssl-users was
willing to help me out; so I turned here. What are the actual arguments
that mkimapdcert sends to openssl to get the functional signed cert for
imapd-ssl? I looked over the imapd.cnf file, but that doesn't hold the
openssl command arguments. Connecting to the server using mutt gets an
I/O for every cert that I generate - even the one (seemingly) with no
passphrase on the key.

So, what are the specific commands that need to be fed to openssl to get
a self-signed cert that will work with imapd-ssl? I do have a functional
Openssl demoCa setup working. Thanks.
