Valve doesn’t give a damn if you haven’t noticed by yet.

People should start considering no-steam more, it gets more support than the 
legit version itself.

I haven’t done that yet but the day will come….

He is kinda right. We have to fight for every single player on the server 
without plugins for skins and knifes, and there are servers that have them all 
the time. Valve should check these server providers, warn them and later on 
just IP ban them. They have been warned and they did breake the rules. 

 

Thats the only way to stop it. Otherwise everyone will start to use sites like 
this and will never feel any of these ban waves.

They’re probably delaying the bans during the summer sale to avoid cheaters 
from buying multiple accounts where they can cheat later on.

They’re just waiting till the summer sale is over and then strike them all 
together.

False, that is a feature.

It works and I’ve used it many times for my servers.

The problem is that (as ics stated) you can’t do that on the fly, you need to 
give it a good 24 hours between any actions.

game server account using a login token. Login tokens may be acquired via the 
IGameServersService/CreateAccount web API. Using a login token is not required 
to run a game server, but allows Steam users to continue to access your game 
server from their favorites list if your game server changes IP in the future."

That's the only solution to keep your server online, a csgo 7€ + phone numer 
~10€ it's cheap when a server can give you more than 100€ par months

Don’t misunderstand me,

I am not implying you did, I actually believe that most of you guys complaining 
in this server list have a reason to complain.

I’m just saying that the people that aren’t playing legit probably don’t even 
care about this banwave because there are so many ways of getting around it.



Sourcemod can ban all the plugins they want (or unapproved them), nothing stops 
a guy into downloading (if they didn’t possess already) the source code and 
patch it a little bit to make it completely undetected by Valve.



Valve needs to really start talking to the community and get things done 
professionally.

I'm not sure that you can trust that valve's method of banning is effective and 
error-free. If others in this thread are too be trusted, there are some servers 
still running !ws and !knife that are still up.

I highly doubt Valve has started poking their head in our server directory.

Either they are checking cvars or tags or strings in hostnames.



Somebody should really slap them in an IT way, maybe they’d wake up and start 
communicating with the community.

You know… most of the things are solved with communication, but if that can’t 
be achieved in any way then the only way to get attention is through harsh 
manners.



Devs… wake up, you’re making millions out of the game, it’s time to take it 
seriously.



Also, none of my servers was affected, I’ve had these plugins in the disabled 
directory since august I believe.

They ban in waves, nothing stops them to just generate a new token under a new 
account and swap it with the banned one.

They’ll be fine for the next 3-4 months and then do it again.



It doesn’t really cost much to get a csgo account and a phone number.

I'm not sure that you can trust that valve's method of banning is effective and 
error-free. If others in this thread are too be trusted, there are some servers 
still running !ws and !knife that are still up.

very small limit set by the CSGO devs that prevent community owners from 
running custom mods and plugins. The precache table includes materials which is 
should not. it should be separate. The current limit is 1024 which is not 
enough for the custom servers/modding community and prevents us from using 
unique features to entertain players. This was not an issue in CS:Source. Devs 
can we get this pre-caching table updated or at least increase the limit.

To have votekick immunity simply setup your server to only use sourcemod for 
votes. Make sure the plugin you’re using implements immunity checks and then 
set your own immunity to a higher level. This way you will not be votekicked.



You can configure how immunity is checked in cfg/sourcemod/sourcemod.cfg and 
set your own immunity in configs/admins.cfg

Before advertisements we used to sell admin in order to pay for the servers 
because simple donations were not enough and we didn’t want to make our system 
a pay2win thing.

After advertisements we were able to recruit only good admins, split servers 
into better hardware, focus more on gameplay rather than trying to rise the 
last buck to reach the end of the month and so on, Advertisements was a huge 
improvement in quality for my community.



109 servers are split in 54 clients, which makes an almost exact mean of 2

To be fair with you, my cstrike community has 5 and my csgo community has 20.

Both communities are managed by several people that dedicate their free time in 
making the servers best quality.



Now, you’re saying the big guys are profiting from this and you say that 
smaller communities/clans don’t stand a chance, why is that? Didn’t you just 
say that owning 1-2 servers allows for better management and customization? 
That would have meant that smaller communities would easily beat big guys in 
terms of quality.



Anyway discussing with you is useless and I am pretty sure that everyone in 
this mailing list is getting pretty bored about this discussion already (and 
somebody finished the popcorn as far as I read in another email) so this will 
be my last email regarding adverts.

It goes way deeper than this. Advertisements allow communities to grow beyond 
what I consider healthy. Call me old fashion, but In my opinion online gaming 
(for hlds/scrds games) was a much, much better experience prior to ads and 
quick-play.



The numbers are quite simple, using Niko as example. What do you think would 
provide a better experience to gamers, 1 community hosting 109 servers, or 50 
communities hosting 2 servers each with their own views and values?



Choice is what we had on offer.



The big guys are the only ones profiting from the current model. It’s extremely 
harmful to smaller clans and communities who barely stand a chance

The issue is there and it should be resolved.



I personally use MOTDgd as source of money for my community/hosting company and 
I wouldn’t be able to host any of my servers without them.

There is a reason why you hardly find big communities with quality servers 
without ads, and that is because it costs a lot of money to maintain a good and 
stable server.



For example I pay 120$ AT LEAST for each of my machines in order to guarantee 
DDoS protection, stable framerate, and a stable connection, and even after all 
this money it’s sometimes impossible to respect those parameters.



I offer quality servers on CSS and CSGO and I believe that not many others 
offer what I manage to offer. Half a million players played on my servers last 
month.



Now, if you truly think adverts make this game unplayable and broken then you 
can feel free to take the holy money out of your pocket (because you seem to be 
rich), host your servers in loss, waste 4+ hours a day to maintain them and 
watch your bank account decrease happily.



I don’t deny that there are some servers out there abusing the system, but I 
don’t think that players are that stupid to join those specific servers twice, 
there is a blacklist function for that.



I provide free gameservers to people that can’t pay for servers thanks to 
MOTDgd, how is this bad? There are companies out there taking money from 
clients just to set the nice (priority) of a process, charging $1 per slot and 
nobody bats an eye, then a guy decides to host a gameserver and finance it 
using adverts and everyone loses their mind.

What people here are whining about is that they want a good service for free 
because they “paid the game”, but that is wrong when it comes to community 
servers, they’re not run by valve. If you want to play ad free, expecting 
everything to be what you paid for, then join Valve servers.



So yes, all in all: if you want to play on ad-free servers, play on valve 
servers or on servers run by rich people. Otherwise accept the fact that there 
are people like me, out there, that try to provide a good service and expect to 
be supported by those playing on their servers.







Back to the main topic: let’s please find a solution to this issue, those that 
do not want this bug to be corrected then please stay out of the discussion.

You can replicate this on csgo by installing the following plugin:

and then setting the config file to:

"!test" "none" https://youtu.be/FrG4TEcSuRg?t=19

"!test2" "full" https://youtu.be/FrG4TEcSuRg?t=19



Then restart the server and your game.

Join the server, type !test2 which should successfully pop up a window with the 
youtube video, let it load. Close it, type it again, it should load again (not 
always).

Once you type !test it should just open the contect in the background (since 
motd spawning doesn’t work on csgo) and that should either break everything 
completely or after that point both commands will just separately play in 
background.



I picked a youtube video because of the HTML5 player.

The issue is there and it should be resolved.



I personally use MOTDgd as source of money for my community/hosting company and 
I wouldn’t be able to host any of my servers without them.

There is a reason why you hardly find big communities with quality servers 
without ads, and that is because it costs a lot of money to maintain a good and 
stable server.



For example I pay 120$ AT LEAST for each of my machines in order to guarantee 
DDoS protection, stable framerate, and a stable connection, and even after all 
this money it’s sometimes impossible to respect those parameters.



I offer quality servers on CSS and CSGO and I believe that not many others 
offer what I manage to offer. Half a million players played on my servers last 
month.



Now, if you truly think adverts make this game unplayable and broken then you 
can feel free to take the holy money out of your pocket (because you seem to be 
rich), host your servers in loss, waste 4+ hours a day to maintain them and 
watch your bank account decrease happily.



I don’t deny that there are some servers out there abusing the system, but I 
don’t think that players are that stupid to join those specific servers twice, 
there is a blacklist function for that.



I provide free gameservers to people that can’t pay for servers thanks to 
MOTDgd, how is this bad? There are companies out there taking money from 
clients just to set the nice (priority) of a process, charging $1 per slot and 
nobody bats an eye, then a guy decides to host a gameserver and finance it 
using adverts and everyone loses their mind.

What people here are whining about is that they want a good service for free 
because they “paid the game”, but that is wrong when it comes to community 
servers, they’re not run by valve. If you want to play ad free, expecting 
everything to be what you paid for, then join Valve servers.



So yes, all in all: if you want to play on ad-free servers, play on valve 
servers or on servers run by rich people. Otherwise accept the fact that there 
are people like me, out there, that try to provide a good service and expect to 
be supported by those playing on their servers.







Back to the main topic: let’s please find a solution to this issue, those that 
do not want this bug to be corrected then please stay out of the discussion.

watch adverts on your TV, on the internet, while you drive, at school, on your 
phone. And even if you don’t like them, they’re a way to sell stuff to people 
and a way for advertisers to fund their service. If you don’t like a certain TV 
channel because of their ads then you don’t watch it anymore. If you don’t like 
a server because it’s ads supported, then you blacklist it. As simple as that.

For over a decade we managed just fine without ads. We had high quality 
communities and clans all with their own server.



Your need for having as much servers as possibly is purely driven from an 
e-penis point of view. We used to value quality over quantity, this is, without 
a doubt, completely wrecked by both allowing advertisements in-game as well as 
the quick-play system.



I remember days where VALVe furiously shutdown companies who tried to introduce 
ad placements on the maps.



The statement that ads are very important for the continuation of the game is a 
blatant lie. It only proves one thing, and that is your inability to put down a 
concept which people are willing to donate for.

back when i were a lil boy when i used 2 play 1.5 and 1.6 (idk witch I have 
adhd self diagnosed though so take this with grain of salt) it was a lot of fun

ads are very important for the continuation of the game and the game industry 
in general like ppl might get mad at skins and for what skins are good for the 
game healty and stop from having op stuff in the game like imagine if you payed 
real money for the r8 to shit on kids if that were the case i would rather buy 
cheats lol( ;) )

but also on the other cheek ads are really shitty to look at i dont want to but 
ariel liquitabs i dont clean my clothes i have parents to do that form e i dont 
do ironing so i dont even see how the ads are relevant to countrstrike so i 
vote to remove them

Apparently there is indeed an issue with the API. Several of my servers were 
empty or nearly empty during the past 2 days.

I checked each IP with 

http://api.steampowered.com/ISteamApps/GetServersAtAddress/v0001?addr=IPHERE:PORTHERE

 

and those empty/unpopulated were giving a response such as the following one:

}

Which generally means the server is down, but the server was up!

There is a solution for this -> restart the server.

I am currently testing out also using 

sv_hibernate_when_empty 0

 

Valve should look into this and fix it as soon as possible.

It’s likely that they have not yet made it live.

 

If you query the API you’ll see a new field (gmsindex) that is always set at 
65534 (max UINT16 val-1) and I guess it will be something else when this is 
live.

CS:GO dedicated servers will soon require Steam Game Server Login Tokens 
(GSLTs). This is the existing system that TF2 uses for Favorites migration.

report back any issues in creating accounts. Note that TF2 server operators can 
now use this form to create GSLTs for TF2 (AppId 440).
 
   Stage 2: [DONE] You can now use the sv_setsteamaccount concommand to 
log in with your GSLT. it is still possible to run a dedicated server without a 
GSLT. Anonymous login will happen automatically if no game server login token 
is specified. Please report back any issues with logging in using the game 
server login token or otherwise.
 
   Stage 3: [NEXT WEEK] Dedicated Servers that use anonymous login instead 
of a GSLT will no longer list in the GMS. Otherwise they will still be playable.
 
   Stage 4: Dedicated Servers that use anonymous login will no longer list 
in the GMS nor be connectable by CS:GO clients.

server on your list?

I'd suggest you putting that in autoexec.cfg however people report that it
works in server.cfg as well. Up to you.
As for the cvar itself it's only set-able on server startup, therefore you
must restart the server.
You can start the server manually to check whether it says "logged in to
steam server with id:..." or simply check if it appears in the master list
again.

Don't use <>. Use quotes or nothing at all.

Hello, alright thank you, i've now put this into my server cfg.

sv_setsteamaccount "my login token"

I am unsure if i've done it right though..

When i type sv_setsteamaccount in console, it does not show the value.

And this gets returned when i press enter:

Does that mean i should use  instead of "my login token" ?

How do i confirm if i've done it right?

I have just checked the server list and it's still full of servers without
authentication. 
I know for sure because I have clients that didn't setup their own servers
yet but I can see the servers in the list.

I think the switch hasn't been done yet.

Sv_region should be set to your location (3 for Europe)
Then it will also show on  location.

Ido, could you guys please update the CS:GO "status" command to show whether or 
not the server is logged in, like TF2 does?  That's a lot easier than simply 
watching for lines in the console at startup, especially if you're running in a 
screen session on Linux and can't scroll back through the lines which have left 
the screen.

So to clear the air real quick.  The authkey launch parameter is no longer 
needed in order to access the workshop contents correct?  Simply setting the 
"sv_setsteamaccount" in the launch parameter will now allow workshop access?  

 

All my servers are working perfectly (and updating perfectly) besides that.

VAC = Valve Anti Cheats, I really don't think that valve goes as far as
banning you from playing on servers because you did something wrong when
hosting a specific gameserver.
Also I don't think that bans would be permanent seen the length of the bans
given to IPs during the previous months. However these are all speculations
and we have yet to hear from VALVE.

What we know for sure is that if you have 20 tokens and 1 gets banned, the
other 19 will also be banned.

His issue is in the server browser, it says 39, even though in the little pop 
up it shows 40. He wants the server browser to report the information correctly.

OP, since this is a surf server, you're obviously running sourcemod. Have you 
looked for a plugin?

How is your opinion regarding ads relevant to the problem? If you have 350$ 
monthly to spend on servers for other people to enjoy, then you’re lucky!



Players did not decide to disappear from one day to the other just because of 
ads!

I indeed run motdgd on my servers, but that's for a legit reason, I have to pay

Besides, I host gameservers since 2008 and run ads since 2011/2012 (I think i 
was one of the first to begin with this technique) and players have always 
learned to accept the fact that for such a great service they had to either

Now, regarding my current situation on CSGO, i do not run adverts every 5 
minutes that scare people away, I care about my players and my community and 
always tried to match their needs.
This change of traffic has happened during this past week, and i really doubt 
that all of a sudden every player decided my community is pure evil and must be 
avoided. So I wonder why and that's why I'm here seeking help from people that 
like me, enjoy serving csgo with some different content.


PS: I'm well aware of that, i do not run these kind of plugins on my servers 
and enforce such rule on my clients too.

That’s a pretty funny video hahaha,

On a serious note, did you really try to install a vanilla server? Literally 
from scratch, without copy pasting anything from your previous server?



This really looks like some configuration problem with your server, if you 
don’t have sm or mm installed then it must be somewhere in the configs.



Try to create a new account on your server, download steamcmd, install a new 
csgo server and launch it.

The issue should not happen at that point.

Start adding your own configs and features block by block and test each time. 
Stop when it happens and locate the source.

game every few minutes. I have a considerably high end machine and trying to 
surf when those adverts load in the background caused lag spikes and 
undesirable play, so I stopped going there. I understand that CSGO's motd is 
known to open in the background and never display. Sadly, plugins like Pinion's 
and MOTDgd's that have the re-play feature cause the MOTD to open in the 
background of CSGO and it has negative affects on gameplay from my experience.



That may or may not be the only reason but from someone who used to frequent 
your servers on a daily basis, that is my input on the matter.

Yes, don't get me wrong, we also have a lot of new players each day.

Fact is that our servers don't get past 20 players anymore.

I just spent 6 hours looking at the servers and checking the traffic. 

I disabled unneeded plugins and reinstalled csgo without admin rights to
test out myself.

Everything is fine, all good, however something is very wrong with how
players reach my server:

They all join at the same time, often from the same country, sort of like
this:

And then, after not even a minute, they often leave.

Sometimes they get replaced as soon as they leave, most of the times nothing
happens.

 

Servers bounce from having 10 players to having 20, perhaps even spiking
randomly at 22, then back to 15 and so on, in a matter of minutes.

What is valve doing?

 

The sv_tags of that specific server are:

"bhop,gofree,kitsune,practice,rank,skills,stats,surf,surf,surf_5,surf_kitsun
e,surfing,timer"

 

This situation is driving me crazy, it makes me want to close down all my
servers and get the hell out of this business because I don't seem to be
able to have control over who joins my server and how (like it happens on
CS:S). Perhaps Valve is sending me quickplay traffic without matching
players preferences?

 

However how do huge (64 slots) servers still have full servers? What am I
doing different? I mean, look at the top surf servers, 1 out of 2 of these
servers have the knife and ws plugins still but I refuse to accept the fact
that this little detail influences the playercount that much.

 

 

Sorry if I look pissed, it's just the frustration of working that many hours
on servers and seeing them dying for no apparent reasons.

noticed a sudden drop in players starting from last update.

Is anybody else reporting this? What could it be?

Careful though!

Each time a server logs in with a token, the favorites of your clients update 
to that specific ip:port.

That means that if you have 10 servers cycling, only one will ever show up in 
the favorites, and that will be the last one you started. (depending on how 
fast valve updates that list).



You probably would want to avoid that.

You can re-use a token on multiple servers - you just can't have multiple 
logged in using the same token. You only need as many tokens as you are running

I run a large number of instances that are ephemeral and therefore do not 
necessitate long-lasting “favorites”. Assuming there is an API to create and 
delete tokens, this new restriction on servers would add a single point of

I don't know why, but for some reason my server motd only shows the default 
csgo motd now. I haven't changed it at all, and I can load the website just 
fine through browser. Any idea what the problem might be?
