Re: [darktable-user] Windows darktable V 3.2.1 - does not load/import lightable files or folder

2020-08-12 Thread Harald
Ross,

do you see a Terminal window with debugging information in parallel to
the darktable window? If this is not true, run darktable from within a
git bash window to be able to collect all messages.

Download and install git for windows first (https://gitforwindows.org/).

"-d" is the option to show the messages for each subsystem, "-d all" for
everything (supported). -d is never part of a path name.

Take care about "/" or "\" in your path as well. Within git bash
terminal window it is "/" and NOT "\".

Re: [darktable-user] Windows darktable V 3.2.1 - does not load/import lightable files or folder

2020-08-11 Thread Harald
Hi Ross,

I recommend using a start option to enable debugging mode to help better
understand what is really going on here...

For example I start darktable like this :

c:/tools/.../darktable/bin/darktable --cachedir c:/... _-d_ lua -d
opencl -d perf

Re: [darktable-user] Is it possible to change the path for the 'disk backend for thumbnail cache' ?

2019-03-18 Thread Harald
Hi,

yes and no.

Yes - pointing darktable on startup to a new chachedir is working but
resulting in an empty thumbnails cache.

I can move the old ones ...

No - because starting darktable-generate-cache then creates all the
thumbnails from scratch in the old and not the new directory.

Fixed this with the core option for darktable-generate-cache.

To summarize, it seems that the change in the path for the cache
directory is not persistent

I have to point to that directory on each start of darktable itself or
of darktable-generate-chache.

[darktable-user] Is it possible to change the path for the 'disk backend for thumbnail cache' ?

2019-03-18 Thread Harald
Hi,

I am using darktable 2.6.1 + windows 10

and I recently figured out that my 'disk backend for thumbnail cache'
has been frequently deleted (due to its path and by windows cleaners).

Assuming that the disk backend speeds up the usage of lighttable view,
is it possible to change the path for the 'disk backend for thumbnail
cache' and move it away from this temporary internet files path?

Thanks for any idea and your help, Best Regards

Re: [darktable-user] New 2.6.0rc2 Windows build

2018-12-20 Thread Harald
Pascal,

I installed 2.6.0 R2 windows and it is running.

2 quick findings so far:

- in the map mode "find location" is not available / working

- "collect images" works only by selecting from the combo box selection
and the provided tree, I can not type into the text field at the right
to the selection buttons but I can paste something in there

Best regards

Hi Pascal,

I would like to try but I can not figure out how to install darktable
2.6.0. rc2 in parallel to my production system using darktable 2.4.4. on
windows 10.

Deciding not to delete the old version ends the installer ...

Any idea?

Re: [darktable-user] How to (or can I) narrow down the lighttable history search rule by a given used module?

2018-07-24 Thread Harald
Lorenzo,

thank you for the solution. I think I understood the idea behind.

It took some time to search for WIN 10 equivalent tools and all the
translations for the related darktable module names.

One problem with removing a deactivated module is the fact, that it is
visible but deactivated in the history stack but no longer attached to
the active module group. Therefore I have to find it, what I personally
think is not too logic at all.

In other words, used but deactivated modules should stay in the
activated modules group.

[darktable-user] How to (or can I) narrow down the lighttable history search rule by a given used module?

2018-07-22 Thread Harald
Hi,

I was trying / using far too many modules in the past.

Today I would like to find all my images using a specific module
(several modules and hundreds of images, to be honest).

What do I need to do to find all my current images using a specific
module? I would like to have this search (image list) for later removing
a specific module from all related images?

Can I therefore narrow down the 'history' image attribute or would this
be a new and - in my understanding -  very helpful extension of
functionality?

Thanks for your help and nice weekend

[darktable-user] darktable WIN 2.4.3 import bug - WORKAROUND -

2018-05-05 Thread Harald
Hello,

as the number of tickets regarding this import bug is still increasing
(12154, 12161, 12163, 12177 ... to name a few concurrent tickets), here
is how it 'works':

A) copy the path you want to import from

B) paste this path into the right side of the import dialogue window
(file selector dialog)

and here we go!

It changes the path and the import works.

Help,
After updating to the new Darktable version (2.4.3 Windows 10), I can no longer access images or folders on external drives (or even the local disk). When I navigate to import, the "import image" or "import folder" dialog box appears, but nothing happens when I click on any of the icons for hard disk drives. Had no problem with previous versions...

Re: [darktable-user] history stack still containing disabled modules after compression - why?

2018-02-02 Thread Harald
I do think I am talking about a 3. type of use cases...

There are for sure many reasons or use cases why not to remove a
disabled module during the photo processing work flow.

My point is, that at a final step, at the end of the work flow, all the
selections and decisions have been made already. Then and only then I do
want to do the final compress and clean.

At that point in time a remove of unused or disabled modules would be
very helpful.

Only this clean stack might be the basis for a new style or used for
copying further.

Not arrived yet at this final step, in between or during the work flow,
there is no need for removing the entries for disabled modules...

... and at that time no need to compress the history stack but at the
end of the process.

[darktable-user] history stack still containing disabled modules after compression - why?

2018-01-31 Thread Harald
Hi,

I don't understand why the history stack still contains - or generally
should contain - disabled modules after stack compression.

I have seen the procedure for cleaning up deselected modules, but it
seems to me to be very complex, especially for multiple deselected
modules within the same stack.

Unfortunately, I have to disable alternative modules again at a later
stage, due to ongoing module comparisons.

Would a global function in Lighttable for compressing and deleting
disabled history stack module entries for a group of selected photos be
a useful extension for darktable?

Any other idea would help to create my own 'clean' styles ... ?

Thanks and Regards
