[datameet] Re: [Datameet] Groundwater Level Data

2019-08-14 Thread Sashikumar N
Hi Fazil,
Looks like WRIS site is on a revamp mode and data download is all obscured
by less useful graphics. Here is a link for the old site, hope you can
download data district-wise from here:

http://59.179.19.250/GWL/GWL.html?UType=R2VuZXJhbA==?UName=

Considering that this data might have short access time, it would be great
if volunteers can download data for all States(till 2018) and make it
available for all future users! Any takers? :)

Hope there is no any limitation on sharing this data, I have downloaded
data for Karnataka, AndhraPradesh, Telangana, TamilNadu and Kerala. I can
share it from a github site

Re: [datameet] Re: India Shape Files

2018-11-04 Thread Sashikumar N
Hi Arun,
Thanks for the cool PyQGIS code, it works like a breeze for points and
lines, but it gives a error for polygon layers. Just wanted to give this as
a feedback. So glad that you, Nikhil, Devdatta and others are contributing
voluntarily for the efforts to read bhuvan GeoRSS layers. In our country
it's the only way to get access to the locked away datasets!, wish it was
not this way and Govt come forward to give the public data.

Here is another link for more bhuvan georss datasets, this page also
timeouts after few seconds

http://bhuvan5.nrsc.gov.in/bhuvan/web/?wicket:bookmarkablePage=:org.geoserver.web.demo.MapPreviewPage

This does have a layer for Karnataka Village census (search for
Kar_vill_cens), i have not checked for other states. But since its a
polygon layer, the code is not working to separate the attributes.

On a different topic, as a group can we make effort to download and archive
this and other layers available now?(don't know the legal implications) I
wonder how long it will be allowed. Its too big for few people to download
all of them. We can make a effort to download state wise with volunteers
who can download and collate it later.

wishing everyone a nice day

regards
sashi

[datameet] GRSS: TANDEM-X - THE EARTH IN 4D - INNOVATIVE APPLICATIONS

2018-09-25 Thread Sashikumar N
Watched this good presentation on TANDEM-X applications, very exciting
applications. Also, the good news is, they are going to throw open 90m DEM
data for free from September 29. We will get unprecedented vertical
accuracy among the freely available DEM data.
skip the first 9 mins to begin the presentation.

2018-09-17 Thread Sashikumar N
Came across this portal, explored it for a quite bit of information and map
for the State. Good effort by the departments, but hope the information
will be updated and useful to all stakeholders. It does allow web API
access to 'Nearby Services' and 'Assets'

[datameet] Kerala floods 2018 - Periyar basin dams

2018-08-15 Thread Sashikumar N
Hi All,
Created this attached google kmz file from the article and dam network
diagram by James Wilson
https://theprint.in/opinion/in-monsoon-battered-kerala-idukki-dam-has-stood-tall-to-prevent-floods/97579/

The google file is for reference, not accurate or verified. Please download
and open it in Google Earth. Click the tour to see all dams and network
sequentially. The physical link between Kallar and Erratiyar to Iduki is
not clear due to dense forest and hence not connected. Will be glad if all
the locations are verified and links located correctly.

[datameet] Re: Kerala Dashboard for Budgets and Schemes

2017-11-23 Thread Sashikumar N
Hope, every state will put their data out in the course of the financial
year! The data shows most of the department's expenditure hovering less
then 40%, with exception of Local Self Government(158% !). With 4 months
remaining in the financial year they will magically reach 100% before the
end of March!. Accepted these figures are not real time, but trend shows
the popular truth about the departments spending spree in the fag end of
the financial year

Re: [datameet] Re: Ground water level map of India

2017-10-23 Thread Sashikumar N
Hi All,
I finally got the official explanation given
at http://www.india-wris.nrsc.gov.in/GWL/GWL.html?
Here is what it says

Groundwater is an important source of drinking and agriculture in our
country. But this is hard to be explored and analyzed being flowing in
sub-surface. The level of water below ground is temporal and dynamic in
nature. It is mainly controlled by rainfall pattern in relation to the
aquifer material. Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) and State Ground water
departments have implanted monitoring wells and measure ground water level
regularly.

The GW Level module provides the available water level data for 29 states &
7 UTs (excluding some hilly regions of north and north east India) for the
period 1994 to 2016 as received from CGWB. It contains a layer having
locations of more than 30,000 observation wells with 16 attributes (11
static and 5 temporal). Further, water level data is grouped according to
four seasons viz.

   - Post-monsoon Rabi (January to March)
   - Pre monsoon (April to June)
   - Monsoon (July to September)
   - Post-monsoon Kharif (October to December)

The user can view season wise water level of individual or multiple wells
in graphical form as per predefined area as well as administrative/basin
boundary. One can also assess the water level changes and compare its
dynamic fluctuation in spatial and temporal domain through this sub info
system.

Re: [datameet] Re: Ground water level map of India

2017-10-23 Thread Sashikumar N
Dear all,
I am extremely sorry for wrongly ascribing months to the seasons in my
previous post. Here is the right interpretation:
Monsoon - June to Aug (GW level recorded in Aug)
Post monsoon Kharif - Sept to Nov (GW level recorded in Nov)
Post monsoon Rabi - Dec to Jan (GW level recorded in Jan)
Pre-monsoon - Feb to May (GW level recorded in May)

regards
sashi

Re: [datameet] Re: Ground water level map of India

2017-10-19 Thread Sashikumar N
Hi Nikhil,
Just joined the group now. I saw your other interesting posts. Thankyou. The
ground water level given in CGWB data is below ground level(bgl) in meteres.
Which means we need to know the accurate elevation of the well coordinates to
know the actual depth to compare with other wells (aquifer mapping). As used
directly it gives just depth to groundwater of the particular well. I think
seasons would be self-explanatory. But here are the months. Monsoon (Aug to
Nov) Post Monsoon Kharif (Nov to Jan) Post monsoon Rabi (Jan to May)
Pre-monsoon (May to Aug)
