Re: [datameet] DOS release Remote Sensing Policy 2020 draft for public comment

2020-11-27 Thread Ujaval Gandhi
Hi Sharad,

Thanks for sharing. From the perspective of sharing ISRO's own data, the
policy says

" In the interest of promoting research, innovation, societal applications
and value addition, DOS shall make IRS satellite data having GSD of 5 meter
and coarser, easily accessible on ‘free and open’ basis. "

I think this is really good. As the best open remote sensing multispectral
data currently is Sentinel-2 (10m), ISRO sharing LISS4 (5.6m) data puts
them ahead of USGS and ESA. Of course, the concern would be the
implementation and how fast they can make that data available. My comment
here would that they adopt a true open data license for this data, like
Government Open Data License.

Re: [datameet] Query regarding Heat map Generation

2020-12-03 Thread Ujaval Gandhi
Hi Jagades,

There are many ways to do it. Here are some ways to achieve this in QGIS

Easiest would be to use the GPX tracks (lines). QGIS has a tool 'Line
Density' in Processing Toolbox that will give you a heatmap based on
overlapping line segments. If you just have points with timestamps and
track id, use the 'Points to Path' tool to create tracks.

A more complex but accurate way would be to first snap your GPS points to
the road segments. I outline the process here
https://spatialthoughts.com/2020/02/22/snap-to-roads-qgis-and-osrm/ . If
you don't care much about accuracy, you can use 'Snap Geometries to Layer'
tool in QGIS and snap each GPS point to the nearest road segment. Then you
can do a spatial join 'Join Attributes by Location (summary)' and count the
number of points on each segment. Then you can use apply a symbology using
the 'count' field for each line segment.

I can think of 5 other ways, but instead of listing them here, I'll point
you to this thread which has more ideas :)

Re: [datameet] Routing challenge: Covery every path optimally

2021-05-11 Thread Ujaval Gandhi
A colleague of mine solved a similar problem using the OpenRouteService
API. They used k-means clusters to determine the initial distribution of
points between surveyors and the optimization API
<https://openrouteservice.org/dev/#/api-docs/optimization/post> for solving
optimal routing between the points.

Another less glamorous but maybe a more practical solution: Overlay a grid
and count the length of roads inside each grid. Assign grids to each
surveyor. You can add distance from starting point in the calculation as
well. I have run field operations before, and a grid-based approach is
usually more manageable than a complex 'start here and walk the streets in
this order'.

Good luck!

Re: [datameet] Delhi Metro

2022-03-25 Thread Ujaval Gandhi
I have found the maps by Metro Rail Guy (TMRG) the most comprehensive and
up-to-date. The maps are not downloadable but would be a good reference.

Re: [datameet] Binary Classification for Satellite Image

2023-01-02 Thread Ujaval Gandhi
This process is called 'supervised classification'. You need to build a
2-class classifier and classify the image. There is a lot of literature and
documentation on how to do it. It is not a simple proces and will involve a
bit of learning curve as well as manual effort to collect training samples.

In QGIS, you can use SCP plugin https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPCpWl7NZlU
<https://mailtrack.io/trace/link/b0425311337f0e2c5343b6b38d990489917f4f93?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DZPCpWl7NZlU=8747767=74a88c68de9e1658>
In Google Earth Engine, you can use one of the ML algorithms such as Random
Forest to classify the image. I have a whole module on how to do it as open
courseware
https://courses.spatialthoughts.com/end-to-end-gee.html#module-3-supervised-classification
<https://mailtrack.io/trace/link/01b5f322f565a99dee4ccad3d3c553c2fb68f9c3?url=https%3A%2F%2Fcourses.spatialthoughts.com%2Fend-to-end-gee.html%23module-3-supervised-classification=8747767=5a0156b0c07ffb53>

If yearly classification is ok, you can get ESA WorldCover data for 2020 or
2021 and just extract the Agriculture class. This will save you the effort
of doing your own classification. I have a tutorial to work wth WorldCover
data in QGIS

Re: [datameet] Q on Monsoon data -- Where do I find 1971-2020 LPAs?

2023-06-20 Thread Ujaval Gandhi
The IMD gridded rainfall data is available from 1901-2022
https://www.imdpune.gov.in/cmpg/Griddata/Rainfall_25_NetCDF.html
<https://mailtrack.io/trace/link/b238ccfa64f789701a1ca7af3b54a5e3e24d7dcd?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.imdpune.gov.in%2Fcmpg%2FGriddata%2FRainfall_25_NetCDF.html=8747767=ce9e45137af369df>

There's a python package 'imdlib' to read and convert this data to XArray.
I have used this in the past to process the data.
https://github.com/spatialthoughts/projects/blob/master/imd/imd_annual_average.ipynb
<https://mailtrack.io/trace/link/ac0912ca419d6e7594c567ca44e4d94d2efdf8a5?url=https%3A%2F%2Fgithub.com%2Fspatialthoughts%2Fprojects%2Fblob%2Fmaster%2Fimd%2Fimd_annual_average.ipynb=8747767=b02d82c756801e30>

You can use this to easily compute LPA and anomalies. Some sample code is
at
https://github.com/spatialthoughts/python-tutorials/blob/main/calculating_climate_anomaly.ipynb
<https://mailtrack.io/trace/link/cfd2a6f58798725326b3d4b471445867173296ea?url=https%3A%2F%2Fgithub.com%2Fspatialthoughts%2Fpython-tutorials%2Fblob%2Fmain%2Fcalculating_climate_anomaly.ipynb=8747767=7d2dc35e6a847df4>

I also have video tutorials and Earth Engine code for calculating LPA and
rainfall anomaly using CHIRPS data
