 Hi.
This is the zh_TW translation for discover1
 (attached discover1_po_zh_TW.po.gz file).
I think, it's ready for the d-i level 4 inclusion.

Bug#292606: uw-imapd: CRAM-MD5 SASL authentication contains vulnerability

2005-01-28 Thread Tomas Pospisek
Package: uw-imapd
Severity: grave
Justification: user security hole

The following email appearead on the c-client mailing list today. Thus I
suppose the currenlty shipping libc-client is vulnerable too:

From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Fri Jan 28 08:33:16 2005
Date: Thu, 27 Jan 2005 14:23:14 -0800 (Pacific Standard Time)
From: Mark Crispin [EMAIL PROTECTED]
To: c-client Interest List [EMAIL PROTECTED],
 [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Subject: vulnerability and fix in UW imapd

Problem:

Versions of UW imapd released prior to January 4, 2005 fail to properly
authenticate users when using CRAM-MD5 SASL authentication.

Details:

The University of Washington IMAP server features multiple user
authentication methods, including the Challenge-Response Authentication
Mechanism with MD5 (CRAM-MD5) as defined by RFC2195. A logic error in the
code that handles CRAM-MD5 incorrectly specifies the conditions of
successful authentication. This error results in a vulnerability that
could allow a remote attacker to successfully authenticate as any user on
the target system.

Impact limitation:

This vulnerability ONLY affects sites that have explicitly enabled
CRAM-MD5 style authentication by creating an /etc/cram-md5.pwd file.
CRAM-MD5 style authentication is NOT enabled in the default configuration
of UW imapd.

Consequently, sites which do not use CRAM-MD5 style authentication (the
majority of UW imapd sites) are NOT vulnerable. An IMAP server which does
not advertise CRAM-MD5 style authentication is NOT vulnerable.

Workaround:

If the site uses CRAM-MD5 style authentication, delete or rename the
/etc/cram-md5.pwd file to some other name. Note that doing so will revert
all passwords to those in the UNIX password system.

Solution:

This problem is fixed in the January 4, 2005 release version of imap-2004b
and in all subsequent versions (the current release version is
imap-2004c1). This problem is also fixed in the UW imapd version bundled
with Pine version 4.62.

The current release version of UW imapd is available at:
ftp://ftp.cac.washington.edu/mail/imap.tar.Z

The current release version of Pine is available at:

different problem.]

 Please add to the documentation.

This isn't even correct.

The icons belong in /icons, and this location is properly DECLINED by
Apache::Gallery.

On second notice, the templates have been modified to change this to
/gallery-icons. Doing this is not a good idea, as it will break all
existing installs of Apache::Gallery, and furthermore, the source
hasn't been modified to decline gallery-icons appropriately.

Severity: normal

Hello,
I've been running spamassassin for two weeks without AWL, as the
documentation is incorrect.

Upgrading from 2.6x spamd failed to start as I had set -a previously, it
told me to Please look at the use_auto_whitelist config option
instead, which I did:

| use_auto_whitelist ( 0 | 1 ) (default: 1)

I thought Splendid, enabled by default., but that is not correct,
spamassassin (actually spamd) was not using AWL until I added
use_auto_whitelist 1
to local.cf.

and the swap is used very much.

I guess it's caused by the use of the gtk-text widget.

Justification: renders package unusable

Hi,

I updated wvdial some days ago and cannot use my modems since then. One
of the modems is bluetooth device connected on /dev/rfcomm0. wvdial
gives:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~ $ wvdial
-- WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.54.0
-- Cannot open /dev/rfcomm0: Cannot get information for serial port.
-- Cannot open /dev/rfcomm0: Input/output error
-- Cannot open /dev/rfcomm0: Cannot get information for serial port.

In the syslog I see
Jan 28 10:58:00 halley kernel: rfcomm_tty_ioctl: TIOCGSERIAL is not supported

My other modem is connected by an usb-serial adapter and wvdial gives me
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~ $ wvdial
-- WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.54.0
-- Cannot open /dev/ttyUSB0: Cannot get information for serial port.
-- Cannot open /dev/ttyUSB0: Cannot get information for serial port.
-- Cannot open /dev/ttyUSB0: Cannot get information for serial port.
syslog shows nothing.

Since I can connect fine using pon/poff, I guess the fault is in wvdial
or libwvstreams, since this is the major change in the last release.

With best regards,

Wolfi

FWIW the actual freedb file appears to have transferred correctly into

Bug#292616: kdvi fails to display some characters of virtual fonts properly

2005-01-28 Thread Bruno Langenstein
Subject: kdvi: fails to display some characters of virtual fonts properly
Package: kdvi
Version: 4:3.3.2-1
Severity: normal

KDVI does not display virtual fonts properly. As it seems KDVI sometimes
fails to switch to the appropriate base fonts.

Here is an example tex file with two short formulas:

\documentclass{article}
\usepackage{mathptm}
\begin{document}
$  f(x,z)=xy$

$ f\leftharpoonup x,z \leftharpoondown / xy $
\end{document}

(Resulting dvi file attached)

The two formulas look different when viewed with xdvi, which is
the result I expected. But viewed on kdvi both formulas look the same
except for spaces. Setting kdvi to use type 1 fonts with/without
font hinting does not matter, whereas canonicalising the dvi file with
dvicopy before running kdvi results in a correct display.

Since I use 'laptop_mode', I want my harddrive to spin down, but saving with
vim prevents this.
In the changelog (/usr/share/doc/vim/html/version6.html) I have found the
following entry:

  Patch 6.2.499
Problem:When writing a file and halting the system, the file might be lost
when using a journalling file system.
Solution: Use fsync() to flush the file data to disk after writing a file.
  (Radim Kolar)
  Files:src/fileio.c

First I think this is not something vim has to bother about, but the
bdflush-daemon. Second I use ext2, so since I use no journaling file system the
fsync() command is not necessary.

I have also searched for an option to turn the flushing off, but I have found
only 'swapsync' for the swapfile, nothing for the normal file.

Greetings
Diether Knof

2005-01-28 Thread Steve Langasek
Package: libapache-mod-aspseek
Version: 1.2.10-1.1
Severity: serious

Reviewing the license of the libapache-mod-aspseek package to verify whether
its license was compatible with the license of libmysqlclient12, I found
that this package's copyright file says it is licensed under the GNU GPL.

Unfortunately, while this is compatible with the MySQL license (which is
also GPL), it is not compatible with the Apache license:

  http://www.fsf.org/licenses/license-list.html

As a result, it is my understanding that we do not have a license to
distribute libapache-mod-aspseek in binary form, because we cannot distribute
Apache under terms matching those of the GPL. Please ask your upstream for a
license exemption that allows Debian to distribute mod_aspseek in binary
form so that this package can be included in the sarge release.

Bug#292627: hotsmtp should also depend on libsasl2-modules

2005-01-28 Thread Renzo Bagnati
Package: hotsmtp
Version: 1:0.8-1
When trying to send mail messages using the hotsmtpd daemon, servers
replied:
Authenticate fist! - MAIL command is not available right now
I tried using hotmail and lycos accounts.

After installing the package libsasl2-modules the problem disappeared
and sending mail was successful.

Bug#292636: cvsd: On startup fialure, the program does not return error code on exit

2005-01-28 Thread Jari Aalto
Package: cvsd
Severity: normal

The /etc/init.d/cvsd start command does not diplsya error if process
could not be started. The problem is that cvsd does not return failure
code on exit. An exmaple:

$ start-stop-daemon --start --quiet --pidfile /var/run/cvsd.pid --exec
/usr/sbin/cvsd -- -f /etc/cvsd/cvsd.conf echo $?
0

And /var/log/syslog reads:

No process has been started and the pid file is lying around:

Bug#292632: file-rc: /e/i/rc doesn't run with posh

2005-01-28 Thread Jörg Sommer
Package: file-rc
Version: 0.8.7
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Hi,

posh is a very strictly POSIX implementation, which shows some errors in
your rc and rcS script.

stty: Standardeingabe: Das Argument ist ungültig
rc: 2 - 0
/etc/init.d/rc:96: [: -a: unexpected operator/operand
Reading configuration file /etc/runlevel.conf.

/etc/init.d/rc:237: [: -a: unexpected operator/operand
/etc/init.d/rc:243: [: -a: unexpected operator/operand

The POSIX standard doesn't know the argument -a for test and the keyword
local.

A patch is appended.

Bug#292631: synaptic: synaptic terminal doesn't appear

2005-01-28 Thread Nigel Stephens
Package: synaptic
Version: 0.53.4-7
Severity: important

After downloading the selected packages, the synaptic terminal does
not appear, and the packages are not installed - I have to go use
another tool to perform the install step. Similarly for package
removal.

This bug was present before installing the patched synaptic which
fixed the libglade toolbar problem.

Bug#292626: df reports incorrect Avail and Use%

2005-01-28 Thread rickard.bergelius
Package: coreutils
Version: 5.2.1-2

df reports incorrect Available and Use% values. Look at /dev/hdf below
total-used is 153837436-151277016=2560420 but it reports 0 (zero) as
Available and 100% Use. I estimate that Available and Use% are about 8%
ahead, that is these reports the disk to be full when there in fact are
about 8% free space. It is however possible to fill the disc to it's
capacity and I have noted no other problems.

# df
Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
/dev/hdf 153837436 151277016 0 100% /data/film1

# df -h
FilesystemSize Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/hdf 147G 145G 0 100% /data/film1

# cat /etc/fstab
/dev/hdf/data/film1 ext3defaults,errors=remount-ro 0
1

I suggest that Avail=Size-Used and that Use%=Used/Size.

This is on a quite ordinary DELL 350MHz PC with an extra noname
controller wich may play a part. I have not been able to nvestigate
that. It is running Debian Linux Version 2.4.26-1-386.

P.S. not part of bug report
This is my first report. I hope it has not been reported before, I'v
looked the best I could and find nothing. I am sorry for the
inconvenience if I am wrong.

Bug#292624: Newer upstream version available

2005-01-28 Thread manty
Package: squirrelmail-locales
Version: 1.4.4-20050112-1
Severity: wishlist

As I was testing the spanish translation, I found out that there are a lot
of translations missing, so I get the messages in english instead of in
spanish, so I went to the squirrelmail.org page and found that there seems
to be a newer version of the locales package for the squirrelmail 1.4.4
version, it is version 1.4.4-20050122.

I think it would be great to have the latest translations for squirrelmail
packaged.

Regards!

Bug#292622: libpdf-report-perl: Does not work with recent libpdf-api2-perl packages

2005-01-28 Thread Allard Hoeve
Package: libpdf-report-perl
Version: 1.22-0.1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Gunnar,

I am just reporting this here for archiving purposes.

Recent uploads of the new PDF::API2 packages to Debian
(starting 2005-01-06) have caused PDF::Report to stop working
properly. The cause of this are some changes to PDF::API2's interface,
I presume, although I haven't investigated the matter much.

Software that worked with the 0.3r77 releases stopped working with the
new 0.40 releases.

We should:

1) Add a Conflicts: line
2) Report this upstream

Anyways, this package shouldn't find it's way into Sarge without fixing.

Regards,

Allard

PS: Yes, there is a new upstream version. It doesn't fix this issue.

Bug#292634: Missing srp support

2005-01-28 Thread TJ
Package: ppp
Version: 2.4.2+20040428-6

My ISP has switched from chap to EAP.
To set EAP up, ppp's srp-entry untility is required.
pppd's man page referes to it, but it is missing from the package.

I got ppp source and found it to be there, please can you included it
in the package.

FYI and anyone else googling this...

To compile srp-entry you will need to package/build srp from:
http://srp.stanford.edu/download.html
(use a pre v2, or srp-entry will segfault, i used 1.7.5)

and edit SRCDIR/pppd/Makefile to uncomment USE_SRP=y

build it.

Now you can create entries in /etc/ppp/srp-secrets for EAP auth.

Thank you
Thorben

Bug#147603: now that there are links to the .avi files

2005-01-28 Thread Tim Connors
It would be nice if I could edit a description and time, etc, for the
links to avi files that bins now succesfully produces.

I don't even care about a thumbnail - a link to a page with a short
description (and don't forget the image list, etc) with a movie icon
would be good enough for my purposes.

Hola Marcelo E. Magallon!

   Bug#48068: Window Maker segfaults.
Bug#60863: wmaker: getstyle binary has problems with NFS locking
   Bug#62671: wmaker: problems with nfs
Bug#66747: wmaker: Wmaker core dumps on exit/restart

  Are those still present?

I don't think so, but I pinged the submitters in order to check if they are
still present or not.

FWIW, I use wmaker over NFS and I don't experience this problem, but I
don't know if it's due to some different configuration (as in not the
no_lock thing).

So far, all the ones that replied have said that they can't reproduce the
bug, I'm waiting to see if someone states that the bug can be reproduced,
if nobody says so, these bugs can be closed.

To avoid panic reactions, please read all of the steps before starting
 to follow them.

 1. Draw some object, e.g. a rectangle.
 2. Press and hold CTRL, and use the left mouse button to drag around the
object. Keep the mouse button depressed.
 3. Press the ESCAPE key to abort the dragging.

Now inkscape will crash, display an error message, and lock all
keyboard/mouse use of the X11 server. So there is a step 4:

 4. Run killall inkscape from another console to get access to your X11
session. Yes, it still reacts to SIGTERM.

Thanks for this report, I forwarded it to upstream's bugtracker. I can
reproduce the bug, but to regain control over my desktop it is enough
here under xfce to switch workspaces. I can then click close in the
segfault dialog-box.

Bug#206038: nautilus: Same thing happens when playing with dual-screen layout.

2005-01-28 Thread Sven Luther
Package: nautilus
Version: 2.8.2-2
Followup-For: Bug #206038

Hello,

I played with my dual screen setup, and stacked the screens vertically to try
to workaround the radeon mergedfb 2048 resolution limit (2x1280x1024). I
reverted this as it didn't work.

Saddly, the icons ended up being in the bottom screen of the vertical layout,
and thus when reverting to horizontal dual-screen, they simply dissapeared,
probably being drawn at screen coordinates below the showed screen.

There seem to be no way to get these back in place at all, so i think this
issue may be not minor but probably normal at least. It is similar to a
gnome-panel issue in bug : #289114 and #289117, maybe duplicated in
corresponding gnome-panel bugs.

A quick fix here would be to have code that checks when displaying icons if
they are out of the visible area, and then redisplay them in their
default position. I am not sure if something more subtle can be done or not.

Friendly,

Sven Luther

Bug#291967: Confirmation of bug No. 291967 concerning wmaker

2005-01-28 Thread Petra Ruebe-Pugliese
Hello,

I just read on
  http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?pkg=wmaker

about the bug

Package: wmaker; Severity: important; Reported by: Gunnar Wolf
[EMAIL PROTECTED]; Tags: moreinfo, unreproducible; 31 days old.
#291967: wmaker treats multiple instances of the same program as
one.

As I find it classified as unreproducible I want to give the
following additional information, because I am experiencing the
same phenomenon since my last update to wmaker version 0.91.0-6.
(I am running a Debian testing system).

I am usually working with a configuration of several workspaces
and one full screen wterm in each of them. It is very important
to me to find wmaker ready like this on startup, so I used to
save the configuration and it started up as I had left it, one
wterm in each working space.

But since the last update wmaker seems to be no longer able to
distinguish between the different instances of wterm. It opens
them all in one workspace, which certainly is not of much use to
me ;-(

I am noticing as well that there is only _one_ icon to represent
the whole lot.

I thought this was an effect of ancient configuration files in
my $HOME, so I disabled $HOME/GNUstep by renaming it and started
configuration from scratch, but the phenomenon remained the
same.

I would be very grateful if the old configuration saving
behaviour could be restored.

Petra

questions. The result is that (a) it overwrites the /etc/news/servers
and /etc/mailname files which are configured with debconf elsewhere
(say, by slrn or exim) and more seriously (b) it makes it impossible for
the resulting package to be installed using FAI, since the fully
automated install stops to ask the questions.

I have modified the source package to build a pine package which uses
debconf, and the patch is attached.

Thanks a lot for the patch. I will consider it for the next upload,
but I have to look at it carefully first, as I have not had time to
learn about debconf yet.

Would you have some good ideas to fix Bug#213260 as well?

Bug#292604: libapache-gallery-perl: Neet SetHandler None for the images

2005-01-28 Thread Matthias Urlichs
Hi,

Don Armstrong:
[I'm hijacking this bug, because this is (in my mind anyway) a
 different problem.]

No problem -- as long as it gets fixed.

On second notice, the templates have been modified to change this to
/gallery-icons. Doing this is not a good idea, as it will break all
existing installs of Apache::Gallery, and furthermore, the source
hasn't been modified to decline gallery-icons appropriately.

True. :-/

The python2.3 package installs files both to
 /usr/lib/python2.3/ and /usr/lib/python2.4/. As a result,
the respective files are missing from the python2.4-psyco
package, as are the examples, which may be better off in the
 python-psyco package anyway.

Whoops. I'll fix this and make a new upload. Thanks for the notice.

I'll probably put the examples in the documentation package.

Bug#282492: multiple neighbour cache tables for AF_INET

2005-01-28 Thread Wilfried Weissmann
Hi,

The kernels 2.4.28+ and 2.6.9+ with IPv4 and ATM-CLIP enabled have bugs in
the neighbour cache code. neigh_delete() and neigh_add() only work properly
if one cache table per address family exist. After ATM-CLIP installed a
second cache table for AF_INET, neigh_delete() and neigh_add() only examine
the first table (the ATM-CLIP table if IPv4 and ATM-CLIP are compiled into
the kernel). neigh_dump_info() is also affected if the neigh_dump_table()
call fails.

This bug causes ip neigh flush dev some ethernet device to run into an
infinite loop when the arp cache is already populated (debian bug #282492).
ip neigh delete ... commands for non ATM-CLIP entries fail with an EINVAL.
This is because of the IPv4 neighbour table that is installed in arp.c is
never examined when sending delete commands.

I have attached a minimally tested patch for 2.4.28 that fixes this problem.

Greetings,
Wilfried

Bug#292643: ITP: cl-s-xml -- simple Common Lisp XML parser

2005-01-28 Thread Luca Capello
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Luca Capello [EMAIL PROTECTED]

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

* Package name: cl-s-xml
  Version : 3+cvs.2005.01.27
Upstream Author : Sven Van Caekenberghe [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://common-lisp.net/project/s-xml/
* License : Lisp LGPL
Description : simple Common Lisp XML parser

S-XML is a Common Lisp implementation of a simple XML parser, with
 a SAX-like and DOM interface.
 .
This XML parser implementation has the following features:
  * It works (handling many common XML usages).
  * It is very small (the core is about 400 lines of code, including
comments and whitespace).
  * It has a core API that is simple, efficient and pure functional, much
like that from SSAX (see also http://ssax.sourceforge.net).
  * It supports different DOM models: an XSML-based one, an LXML-based one
and a classic xml-element struct based one.
  * It is reasonably time and space efficient (internally avoiding garbage
generatation as much as possible).
 .
This XML parser implementation has the following limitations:
  * It does not support CDATA.
  * Only supports simple character sets.
  * It does not support name spaces
  * It does not support any special tags (like processing instructions).
  * It is not validating, even skips DTD's all together.

=

I already packaged it, it's available on my unofficial Debian repository:
http://luca.pca.it/debian/

My GPG key is 6D742669, http://keyserver.linux.it or http://luca.pca.it,
key fingerprint 10CD 0397 6DBE 1E36 DEA3 72CC 540A 7B5E 6D74 2669

The package is based on other cl-* packages, I followed the Debian
New Maintainers' Guide and it's lintian checked.

This is my first *official* Debian package, it will be follow ASAP by
cl-gtk (which needs to be checked for some little Debian things). I
haven't wrote to the sponsor list yet, because AFAIK most of the cl-*
packages are updated by Kevin M. Rosenberg [EMAIL PROTECTED], so maybe
he'd be direct interested in sponsoring me (or whatever the best for
this and the other cl-* packages I'm going to ITP).

I'm here for any other questions, suggestions, etc.

Thx, bye,
Gismo / Luca

Bug#292638: openoffice.org: Reports CRITICAL assert in terminal

2005-01-28 Thread Jan Evert van Grootheest
Package: openoffice.org
Version: 1.1.3-4
Severity: important

I started openoffice from the command line giving it a sxw document.
After closing it I found this in the terminal
- begin quote ---
** (soffice.bin:21911): WARNING **: Pixbuf theme: Cannot load pixmap
file /usr/share/icons/SphereCrystal/scalable/stock: Afbeelding
'/usr/share/icons/SphereCrystal/scalable/stock' bevat geen data

(soffice.bin:21911): GdkPixbuf-CRITICAL **: file gdk-pixbuf.c: line 481
(gdk_pixbuf_get_width): assertion `pixbuf != NULL' failed
- end quote ---
And the assert had been repeated tens of times (I only took a short look
at the contents of the document).
I don't know whether these two reports from openoffice are related. But
I've mainly included the first one because it might give a clue about
the second one.

Since the assert seems to be critical, I made this bug important.
Someone with more knowledge can, of course, better assess whether this
is really the case.

The 'cannot load' report ends in dutch, meaning 'picture contains no data'.
The path mentioned happens to be a directory full of .svg files. It
happens to come from package gtk2-engines-spherecrystal so I've included
its dependencies as well.

Debian lacks srp packages, so SRP support will not be enabled in pppd, at
least in the short term. I also have doubts about adding new library

Bug#289370: python-4suite: I also get dangling symlink problem

2005-01-28 Thread Matthew T. Atkinson
Package: python-4suite
Version: 0.99cvs20041008-3
Followup-For: Bug #289370

Hello,

I am also getting the dangling symlink problem in this form:

/etc/cron.daily/man-db:
mandb: warning: /usr/share/man/man1/4ss.1.gz is a dangling symlink
mandb: warning: /usr/share/man/man1/4rdf.1.gz is a dangling symlink

mandb: warning: /usr/share/man/man1/4ss_manager.1.gz is a dangling
symlink
mandb: warning: /usr/share/man/man1/4ssd.1.gz is a dangling symlink

It appears I have two layers of dangling symlings becuase:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ls /usr/share/man/man1/4ss_manager.1.gz -lhaF
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 34 Dec 19 16:40
/usr/share/man/man1/4ss_manager.1.gz -
/etc/alternatives/4ss_manager.1.gz

both of the above show up as broken symlinks on my system.

Hope this information helps and that the bug can be resulved before
Sarge's release (it's quit annoying getting Ks of messages about
dangling symlinks ;-))

Thanks in advance, best regards,

Matthew

Bug#288532: po-debconf: Please use DEBEMAIL in podebconf-report-po

 Hi Denis,
I've prepared the patch two weeks ago but I've missed to send it to
the bts, sorry. Here there is a patch for #288532, #292472 and #288533.

Ok, I made many cosmetic changes to the code, I believe it is more
structured now.

 Now podebconf-report-po:
  - uses the DEBMAIL environment variable to override the submitter
of the emails (if available).
  - allows the editing of mail headers (subject, from and whatever else),
  - allows to set the reply-to field to a bug report in BTS (--bts)
  - can send a bug against the package to warn the maintainer about
the outdated translations of the package (--report, very useful
in combination with --bts to track the replies of the translators)

I renamed --report into --submit. The other visible change is that
translation teams are no more Cc'ed but put in the To: field. The
reason is that I did not know what to do if a Cc header was also present
in mail comments.

Can you please test
  http://people.debian.org/~barbier/tmp/po-debconf_0.8.19_all.deb
? Here is the podebconf-report-po script.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've looked into this, but can't find out how

If you can advise me in this I will see whether it's possible to integrate

we have at least 10 packages FTBFS because of this currently, among them
important packages like auctex and python2.3.

The bug is open since 260 days now.

Bug#292651: kernel-image-2.6.8-2-k7: timeout in zero-length accesses to samba shares, dmesg: smb_trans2: invalid data, [..]

2005-01-28 Thread Thiemo Nagel
Package: kernel-image-2.6.8-2-k7
Version: 2.6.8-12
Severity: grave
Justification: causes non-serious data loss

Zero-length accesses to Samba shares return errors after 30s timeout, while
the requested action seems to happen:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/mnt/thiemo$ l test
-rw-r--r-- 1 thiemo users 0 Jan 28 15:30 test

touch: setting times of `test': Input/output error
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/mnt/thiemo$ l test

The kernel log is as follows:

smb_trans2: invalid data, disp=0, cnt=0, tot=0, ofs=0
smb_add_request: request [c2354ec0, mid=180] timed out!

What makes this a grave severity is that many editors seem to choke on
the errors and cannot save to smb-mounted shares. This is true at least
for OpenOffice.

Luckily this problem seems to be well-understood:
citing Mike Lee:
http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2004-December/097411.html
It seems that some CIFS code got trampled on during a smb kernel patch.
I believe this will be fixed in the 2.6.10 kernel (pretty soon I hope).
For now, you can add the following entry to your smb.conf file:
unix extensions = no

citing Chuck Ebbert:
http://www.ussg.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/0411.2/2326.html
The SMB patch in 2.6.9-ac10 is broken. When a reply is received and it
contains no data (only parms), the data_offset is zero. Since no data
will be copied, zero offset is perfectly valid.
[..]
With the original patch very bad things happened, like trying to save
files from a text editor truncated them to 0 bytes, followed by editor
freezing for many seconds then asking for a new name to save the file
as.

workstation overheated and died while I was in the process of trying to
recover from this. :(

Hal needs a 2.6 kernel to work. But it would be nice if the init script
actually mentioned that on start :)

Bug#292505: fakeroot: fails executing 32bit binaries

2005-01-28 Thread Goswin von Brederlow
Clint Adams [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes:

One solution I see is for fakeroot to build both 32bit and 64bit
flavours of libfakeroot, include them both in the i386 and amd64 debs
and have both in the LD_LIBRARY_PATH. I suggest using
 /usr/lib/i386-linux/libfakeroot and /usr/lib/x86_64-linux/libfakeroot
as paths to match the comming multiarch layout.

 Got a patch?

The same problem (and solution) arises also on s390/s390x,
 mips/mips64, mipsel/mipsel64, powerpc/powerpc64, sparc/sparc64 and
i386/x86_64, all of which are going to be released with sarge.

sparc and s390 are already biarch.

Great. I'm currently traveling till monday but adapting the sparc/s390
stuff to amd64 should be trivial. I will look at it later.

MfG
Goswin

I'm working in the new release for the package right now, I'll include
this.

Bug#292654: mono: coredump when running ConsoleAnimate demo from gotdotnet

2005-01-28 Thread paul
Package: mono
Version: 1.0.4-1
Severity: normal

As headline says. The demo can be obtained from

http://www.gotdotnet.com/team/clr/bcl/demos/demos.aspx

The direct link is:

http://www.gotdotnet.com/team/clr/bcl/demos/demos/zipfiles/consoleanimatecs.zip

And includes what looks like all source code. I haven't tried rebuilding it.

The problem is that running bin/Debug/ConsoleAnimate.exe gives the following
error:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/src/ConsoleAnimate/bin/Debug$ mono ConsoleAnimate.exe
