Bug#262283: Amaya 9.1 released, please update package

2005-03-13 Thread Erich Schubert
Hi,
looks like Amaya 9.1 was released, with lots of user interface
improvements (seems to be GTK2 now).
I'd really like to see the new user interface...
And maybe the german translation is now not missing complete strings -
the version in Debian has serious bugs in the german translation (empty
menu entrys; looks like the OK string for dialog boxes is empty,
too... the default button is thus like 5 pixels wide...)

Please update the package.

best regards,
Erich Schubert

Bug#299278: pdbv: [INTL:fr] French program translation

2005-03-13 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: pdbv
Version: N/A
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch l10n

Please find attached the french translation of this package's
programs, proofread by the debian-l10n-french mailing list
contributors.

This file should be put as fr.po in the appropriate po/
directory. If this package is not a native Debian package, please
don't forget to forward this translation to the upstream maintainer.

Depending on the version of the build tools or the build process used
in the software, you may have to update the LINGUAS variable in the
configure scripts in case the french translation is a *new*
translation for this software/package.

Bug#299279: xmorph: Please consider re-packaging this package as a non native Debian package

2005-03-13 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: xmorph
Severity: normal

As far as I can see, xmorph is not really a Debian-specific package and one
could thus consider there is no need to have it packaged as a native Debian
package.

From reading the various doc files, I understand that the maintainer is a
co-author of the upstream software, but also that the software is also
developed outside Debian.

So, is there really a reason for having it in the native Debian packages list?

What brings me to this topic is localization. I usually recommend
translators who are seeking for work to do to focus on Debian native package
as these software have probably no chance to be translated outside Debian
and are often Debian-specific software.

So, Debian native packages indeed are prioritized with regard to l10nand
we of course want to prioritize what really needs to be.

Many thanks in advance for taking care of answering this concern.

Bug#290977: xfce4.2

2005-03-13 Thread Rimas Kudelis
Hi,
AFAIK, next week, Xfce 4.2.1 will be released, and 4.2.0 hasn't still
hit even experimental... Shame! :D
I cannot provide any feedback for the packages from
http://the.earth.li/~huggie/xfce4/, however, i've been using similar
packages for sarge from http://www.os-works.com/debian/ on Ubuntu, and
they work nicely. Xfce4.2 is currently my favourite DE.
Would anyone please upload 4.2.(0|1) to at least experimental (I'd
love to see them in unstable though). I would test them on my sid box
at work. Maybe, others would do that too.
Thanks
Rimas RQ

Hi!

There is a typo in gjdoc.sh.in: The jars are installed to

run reproducably.

The (trivial) patch is attached.

Bug#299281: SANED daemon: strange behaviour when launching saned without root access

Hi Jean Marc,

You don't need that on the client. (/etc/sane.d/net.conf is the config
file you're looking for)

The problem is important, because it is not possible to run saned via
 xinetd without root access.

OK, so, here's the plan for the resolution of this bug :

1/ READ /usr/share/doc/libsane/README.Debian.gz

You scanner seems to be using SCSI over parallel port and the ppscsi
module; so it basically works like a SCSI scanner. Right ?

The solution should be in the README. Tell me how it goes.

Next time, please use reportbug, as I'd like to know which kernel
version you're using.

. o O (I *really* need to add that reportbug script to the package)

I can still reproduce this with mozilla from unstable (mozilla-browser
2:1.7.5-1).

If I configure apache to return content-type text/plan for .css files
(comment out the css entry in /etc/apache/mime.types):

% wget --proxy=off -d http://www/~arthur/default.css
[...]
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1
[...]

Mozilla renders the page as if the stylesheet was not specified. The
stylesheet was included as:

link rel=stylesheet type=text/css href=default.css title=default /

in the html page. If the webserver returns the css file as text/css the
stylesheet is correctly used for rendering.

(this test was done on an internal test server)

Bug#299284: hotplug does not load ipw2100 firmware anymore

2005-03-13 Thread Didrik Pinte
Package: hotplug

Hi,

since version 0.0.20040329-17, my ipw2100 wifi card does not work

It seems that firmware.agent cannot load the firmware. Nothing has been

Bug#299286: gpsd heavily dependent od /etc/protocols

2005-03-13 Thread Marcel Hecko
Package: gpsd
Version: 2.13-1
Severity: normal

Hello,
gpsd is heavily dependent on /etc/protocols file. If that one does not
exist GPSD will not start and will not produce adequate error to correct
the missing file without using strace.

It would be fine if this is noted during the installation of deb
package.

Example:
WarPad:~# gpsd -D1000
gpsd: launching (Version 2.13)
gpsd: Can't get tcp protocol entry.
gpsd: startup failed, netlib error -1
WarPad:~# strace gpsd -D1000

Currently, this bug depends on resolving gjdoc#299282, which is the (current)

Bug#298955: gnurobbo: contains non-free font

I've prepared an example patch for this (attached). The patch is not
fully tested with regard to time-skew issues due to the Makefile.*
 changes.

The fact that you also need to prepare a orig.tar.gz without the font
file is of course also not reflected in the patch.

I've contacted the upstream author so he would replace the font in
upstream package.

Bug#298977: It works again when I downgrade to 2.2.3-4

2005-03-13 Thread Jaap Haitsma
I downgraded to 2.2.3-4 and my fonts look OK again when I enable the
autohinter.
You can see an example in the attached png. The top text is with 2.2.3
and the bottom with 2.3.1. There the fonts look bad and if I change to
one of the other option like bytecode interpreter nothing seems to happen.

If I change to bytecode interpreter with 2.2.3 to bytecode interpreter I
also get the bad image which is at the bottom.

BTW I also tried out Ubuntu Hoary live cd yesterday it has fontconfig
2.2.3 installed which is set to bytecode interpreter (CRT). Fonts look
different (the weight/boldness seems less) then when I have autohinting
on my Debian setup but the fonts have still good quality.

Is there maybe another package which influences my font rendering?
Thanks
Jaap

Bug#234062: blender: still happening in 2.36. Resolved with dri-trunk packages

2005-03-13 Thread Lee Braiden
Package: blender
Version: 2.36-1
Followup-For: Bug #234062

This is still happening in blender 2.36-1, which I installed today. So, since
I really missed blender, I tried installing the old (or what I thought were
old) dri-trunk packages by
Michel Dänzer:

apt-line: deb http://people.debian.org/~daenzer/dri-trunk-unstable/ ./
packages: xserver-xfree86-dri-trunk xlibmesa-gl1-dri-trunk
drm: standard 2.6.9 kernel's

I suppose this puts the blame firmly on the xserver's shoulders. Hopefully
this bit of info will help blender users while that's sorted out though :)

Bug#298967: NMU to fix non-free font RC bug

I am uploading a revised version of this package that removes the
non-free font to close this RC bug, the only difference is to remove
the font, as it doesn't seem to be used at all.

Hi Micah, while I appreciate your efforts, this NMU unfortunately was
unnecessary, the current bglibs packages in sarge are fine.

Peter, the file /usr/share/doc/bglibs-doc/latex/Helvetica.ttf in the
bglibs-doc package is from the GPL upstream tarball. The font actually
is generated by the doxygen package, which Debian also distributes under
the GPL.

Thanks, Gerrit.

Bug#299287: audacity: fails to read wav file with exif information

2005-03-13 Thread Eeltje de Vries
Package: audacity
Version: 1.2.3-1
Severity: normal

Audacity can not open a wav file recorded with a digital camera (Ricoh
Caplio R1).

The wav file can be opened with Noatun, Kaboodle, imbedded mediaplayer
(KDE) and Realplayer 10.

However, the wav file can not be openen by xmms and by Audacity. In
Audacity there is an error message Audacity doesn't recognize the type of the
file (or something similar, I use a Dutch version).

When I analyze the wav file with HexEdit I see among others exif,
maybe the wav file has exif information.

I can import the wav file as raw data as ulaw 8 kHz. If necessary I
could provide an example of such a wav file.

Bug#291529: Check if the bug persists in the new version

2005-03-13 Thread Ralf Hildebrandt
Since Karl is MIA, you may want to try the new version I built:
http://www.stahl.bau.tu-bs.de/~hildeb/debian/

The *.desktop files go into /usr/share/applnk/System/ScreenSavers,
that way KDE will be able to use the new savers.

Bug#290338: ara should build-depend on ocaml-native-compilers instead

2005-03-13 Thread Thiemo Seufer
AFAICS this shouldn't be fixed by adding an explicit architecture
list but by changing the build-dep from ocaml-best-compilers to
ocaml-native-compilers. This will prevent build attempts on
architectures where only the _all.deb would be built, those packages
will be available anyways as long as there is a single debian
architecture with native ocaml, and it allows to simply set the buildds
to wait-dep for ocaml-native-compilers instead of keeping the
architecture list in sync with the native ocaml support in Debian.

Bug#275024: munin-node: initializing plugins hangs forever when installing in a debian-edu environment

2005-03-13 Thread Tore Anderson
* Finn-Arne Johansen

[I was absolutely certain that I had replied to this bug before, but
while checking the bug log now I could see no trace of this reply. Did
you get it in private mail only? Anyway, I'll resend it here in case
 you didn't.]

When doing a sarge-based debian-edu, the initializing of the
munin-plugis hangs if the name-server is running. Looks like it tries
to look up something. If I switch to a second console, and stop bind,
things will speed up. Later in the installation routine, the customized
bind-configuration is loaded, and it looks like the problem is no longer
there. And the bind configuration is out of the box. I'm not sure what
  is causing this.

Hmm - this looks to me as if the name server is *not* running properly,
or at least is incapable of answering requests. It seems very likely
that some plugin is trying to resolve something, but I'm not sure
exactly what that would be - I know that the ntp plugin calls ntpq,
which do try to resolve the names of its peers.

If you can reproduce the problem reliably, it would be nice if you
could switch to the second console and run ps af, and look for
processes named munin-run (and eventual childs). That should tell
you what plugin is delaying the process, and if it has spawned some
 helper process.

I assume the hostname setup is correct (that the commands hostname
and hostname --fqdn work)? If not that could case major problems.

Thanks,
--

Bug#257827: munin-node: memory graph reports negative values.

  As you can see on
  http://www.rail.eu.org/munin-bug/bretagne-memory-day.png, munin
reports negative values for memory used by applications, which is
  rather strange.

Could you please check if this happens with the 1.2.2 version, please?

Bug#299290: rdesktop: New upstream version available (1.4.0)

2005-03-13 Thread Stefan Huehner
Package: rdesktop
Version: 1.4.0
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

There is a new upstream version available at www.rdesktop.org

 Changes since version 1.3.1:

 * Basic disk-, parallel-, printer- and serial-redirection
 * Fix timezone-redirection
 * Backing-store fixes
 * Fix client-IP sent to TS
 * XEmbed support for embedding rdesktop in other applications (KRDC)
 * Support for setting the RDP5 experience
 * Keyboard and keymap fixes
 * Performance improvements
 * Report disconnect-reason
 * Support for RDP-compression (currently only for 8bpp)
 * Support for persistent bitmap caching
 * Sound-driver for SGI/Irix

Upstream Makefile seems also cleaner now, therefore less patching has to be
done. Support for embedding seems also be inccluded in this release. So patch
in NMUfor

#268896: resktop needs to be updated for krdc
#269013: krdc: cannot use rdp protocol: rdesktop missing

schould no be necessary anymore (but i haven't tried out this feature)

Regards,
Stefan

Bug#299293: sound-juicer: Rammstein's Reise, Reise track info wrong

2005-03-13 Thread Lars Wirzenius
Package: sound-juicer
Version: 0.5.15-1
Severity: normal

When ripping Rammstein's Reise, Reise, the track lengths are shown
correctly (one or two seconds shorter than what is printed on the CD
cover), but the ripped files seem to have little correlation between
when files end and when songs end. For example, song 6 (Amerika) begins
at about 30 seconds from the of file 5.

abcde gets this disc right, so I assume it is not an error in the
disc.

Bug#299292: samba: FTBFS (ppc64): cannot compute sizeof (int), 77

2005-03-13 Thread Andreas Jochens
Package: samba
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

When building 'samba' on ppc64, I get the following error:

checking for int... yes
checking size of int... configure: error: cannot compute sizeof (int), 77
See `config.log' for more details.
make: *** [configure-stamp] Error 1

I do not know the exact cause for this problem. However, it seems to be
related to the use of the '-gstabs' compiler option in CFLAGS in
'debian/rules'. If that option is changed to just '-g',
this FTBFS problem on ppc64 disappears.

Hi Andreas, before doing so, can you please run some checks on the
dietlibc on ppc64? The dietlibc package doesn't have a testsuite, but
it's a good idea to compile the bglibs package, which has a quite good
test suite, and the runit package, which does some program checks, with
the new dietlibc package. You need to adapt the debian/rules files of
bglibs and runit to add ppc64 to DIET_ARCHS for testing.

Thanks, Gerrit.

 Hello,
gpsd is heavily dependent on /etc/protocols file. If that one does not
exist GPSD will not start and will not produce adequate error to correct
the missing file without using strace.

It would be fine if this is noted during the installation of deb
 package.

Thanks for the report. I'll add a dependency on netbase on the next
upload of gpsd. netbase contains /etc/protocols, so you'll be sure this
file is installed when you install gpsd.

Cheers, Til

they work nicely. Xfce4.2 is currently my favourite DE.

Ha. So you're not even using Debian and you're not even testing my

If you want to actually help then you really should test the packages
from the.earth.li and feedback to the alioth project lists at:
http://alioth.debian.org/mail/?group_id=30247

Even more people saying they work fine or that they don't would be
useful.

Would anyone please upload 4.2.(0|1) to at least experimental (I'd
love to see them in unstable though). I would test them on my sid box
at work. Maybe, others would do that too.

I can't currently as I don't have a key in the keyring yet. I need to
sort this out but also probably need to think about getting a sponsor
for the existing packages.

Bug#299266: [plugin:exim_mailqueue] show frozen count

2005-03-13 Thread Tore Anderson
* Dagfinn Ilmari Mannsåker

Having frozen mails as a separate (stacked) field in the mailqueue graph
  would be useful.

Could be done quite easily - we'd need to open the -H file and look
for '^- frozen \d+$' or something like that. However, it would
probably by far increase the run time of the plugin, so it isn't
desireable on systems where the queue can grow large..

Bug#275024: munin-node: initializing plugins hangs forever when installing in a debian-edu environment

while checking the bug log now I could see no trace of this reply. Did
you get it in private mail only?

Yes, It seems like that , but It happens over and over again, so It
looks like each plugin is doing this. And I did a check while it was
running, I think I tcpdump, but I dont remember excatly, and it looked
for tjener.intern.intern. and tjener.intern.intern.intern.
We tried to change the hostname, so that it didn't give a domain, and
saw if that helped, but it didn't. But I'm actually working on this
now, I found out that if I set up the configuration for bind before
it's installed, things seems to improve. So it looks like we are able
to work around the bug, but since it looks up tjener.intern.intern.
and tjener.intern.intern.intern. I think it _is_ a bug somewhere.

If you can reproduce the problem reliably, it would be nice if you
could switch to the second console and run ps af, and look for
processes named munin-run (and eventual childs). That should tell
you what plugin is delaying the process, and if it has spawned some
  helper process.

I'll try , but as said, I'm hoping to successfully work around the bug
now. But it still exists on debian-edu-sarge pr01, released Friday
2005-03-11.

I assume the hostname setup is correct (that the commands hostname
and hostname --fqdn work)? If not that could case major problems.

Yes, they both give decent answers.

Current are 3.34 and/or 4.16, and since you filed the bug against an
older version I'd like to ask you to verify if the bug persists in
 the new version as well.

The first two problems are hidden now, since gcc adds -mieee by
default now. rd-bomb still segfaults. Also, apple2 crashes after a few
seconds with segmentation fault.

By the way, I don't think closing a bug is a great way of asking
feedback for it.

Bug#299298: autofs: set -e still too strong

2005-03-13 Thread Tim Connors
Package: autofs
Version: 4.1.3+4.1.4beta2-3
Severity: normal

If restarting autofs when a mountpoint is busy, or if the daemon has
been killed manually, then the script never gets around to doing
anything, failing midsentence, without printing an proper error
message, because the start-stop-daemon isn't protected, despite the
error code being explicitly checked thereafter:

30600,43 /etc/init.d/autofs restart
Stopping automounter:1-0-23:03:30, Sun Mar 13 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/home/tconnors
(bash)

Since it makes sense to run restart when the daemon could possibly be
not there (since restart is the automatic thing to do upon an
upgrade), and since it makes sense to restart the daemon when a
mountpoint is busy (new processes will get the new mountpoint with new
mount flags, old processes will continue to use the stale mount
point), then I think the proper thing to do is to print the message,
and then just continue as before.

Is `set -e' really the right thing to do? I think a wise man
(possibly Dijkstra) once said don't check for errors you don't
explicitly know how to handle. Since we already check for all
conceivable errors, then does an extra `set -e' help anything? It
only seems to cause us to not issue correct errors when we really do
fail -- see also bug 295480.

Bug#299296: evolution: conversion of all day event to appointment does not work with icalx.com

2005-03-13 Thread David Everly
Package: evolution
Version: 2.0.3-1.2
Severity: normal

When changing an All Day Event to one that has a start and stop time
(Appointment), it does not create the same entry in the .ics file as
when creating a new Appointment.

This means that when uploading the .ics file to www.ics.com,
phpicalendar 0.9 (used by that site) does not show the appointment that
was converted from the all day event.

I've created and uploaded a few test calendars with a single entry for
March 17, 2005 for your consideration:

Appointment:
   http://www.icalx.com/html/deckrider/month.php?cal=appointment

All Day Event:
   http://www.icalx.com/html/deckrider/month.php?cal=all-day-event

All Day Event that was converted to an Appointment by unchecking the All
Day Event box and giving the start time of 10 AM and stop time of 12:30
PM:
   http://www.icalx.com/html/deckrider/month.php?cal=all-day-event-2-appointment

For each of these, you can click on Subscribe or Download to work with
the actual .ics files created by Evolution

Bug#297588: munin-node: df plugin missing sizes

2005-03-13 Thread Tore Anderson
* Charles Fry

The current df plugin is missing the size information reported by df.
While the percentages are potentially helpful, I would much prefer a
graph similar to the memory graph that broke down total disk space by
used and available, much as df itself does.

Does the included df_abs plugin cut it for you, or is there some more
functionality in it that you miss?

Bug#130884: autofs: Pretty harmless

2005-03-13 Thread Tim Connors
Package: autofs
Version: 4.1.3+4.1.4beta2-3
Followup-For: Bug #130884

The fault is actually pretty harmless - we see it all the time at
work, because certain mountpoints are *always* going to be busy (eg,
/home), yet restarts still need to be performed (exarcebated currently
by a faulty switch that stops letting us talk to random servers at
random times). It's pretty harmless, because any new processes will
end up using the new mountpoint, and old processes stuck on the old
mountpoint will continue to use the old mountpoint. I don't recall
whether the last processing exiting from the old mountpoint will
automatically unmount the old mountpoint or not -- if not, perhaps the
daemon could save the fact that it has registered a USR2, then quit
when it can.

Perhaps you are advocating the scenario where the autofs restart
script doesn't ask any mounts that are already mounted to be
controlled by the new autofs daemon if they fail to be unmounted, to
stop there being a duplicate mount. I would caution against this --
you might have asked for new flags or whatever, in which case you want
as many processes as possible using the new mount until processes
using the stale mount exit.

No. It was here as an indirect dependency, and was removed because it is
non-free. You should try to find out which .la file still brings it.
What is the output of grep howl /usr/lib/*.la ?

This is caused by ./setup.py being interpreted by python which in turn doesn't
exist since all the python2.3 dependencies don't include /usr/bin/python. A
crude solution would be adding python to Build-Depends but a careful
python2.4 transition would be appropriate here. /usr/bin/python from python2.4
seems to be the cause of the build success on the maintainer's machine since he
didn't try the build in a clean environment. Remember: pbuilder is your friend.

Thanks for considering.

Bug#297555: FTBS and move to main

2005-03-13 Thread Wolfgang Baer
Hi Takashi,
I had a look after the FTBS and the move to main wish by
Arnaud.
For the FTBS:
In debian/rules change the export line to:
export CLASSPATH=/usr/lib/kaffe/jre/lib/rt.jar:
/usr/share/java/jdom0.jar:/usr/share/java/xerces.jar:
/usr/share/java/antlrall.jar:.

You also have to depend now on libjdom0-java not libjdom-java.
As all dependencies are now in main - with a new upload
fixing the FTBS please target it at main.
If you want, I can prepare a new upload for you. Just drop me
a mail.
Thanks,
Wolfgang

2005-03-13 Thread Tore Anderson
* Finn-Arne Johansen

Munin-run calls get_fq_hostname for each invocation, this seems to be
the problem. Most plugins do not check anything in DNS, and as far as
I remember tjener.intern is the default hostname of Skulelinux
 server..?

  get_fq_hostname {
my $hostname;
eval {
require Net::Domain;
$hostname = Net::Domain::hostfqdn();
};
return $hostname if $hostname;

$hostname = `hostname`; # Fall$
chomp($hostname);
$hostname =~ s/\s//g;
return $hostname;
  }

...this is the function in question. Perhaps Net::Domain is hosed?
Could you try the Net::Domain::hostfqdn() function when the problem is
present, and see if that also hangs? Seems strange that this should
fail if hostname --fqdn doesn't, but it's the best suggestion I have
 right now.

Bug#299189: postgresql: configure script fails without explanation

2005-03-13 Thread Martin Pitt
Hi Robert!

Robert Hunter [2005-03-13 1:21 +1300]:
I'm upgrading an unused installation and was suprised to
 see the following:

 Setting up postgresql (7.4.7-3) ...
 dpkg: error processing postgresql (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 10
  Errors were encountered while processing:
   postgresql

I can understand that there was a failure of some sort,
but there is no indication (from the output) just what
 the problem is.

In fact, even when I tried to execute the script manually,
 I received remarkably little output.

 $ sudo bash -x /var/lib/dpkg/info/postgresql.postinst configure
 + set -e
 + set +o noclobber
 + . /usr/share/debconf/confmodule
 ++ '[' '!' '' ']'
 ++ exec /usr/share/debconf/frontend /var/lib/dpkg/info/postgresql.postinst
 configure
 $ echo $?
 10

I've never seen this; can you please look which debconf version you have
(dpkg -s debconf) and please also try to do

  $ sudo su
  # export DEBCONF_DEBUG=developer
  # bash -x /var/lib/dpkg/info/postgresql.postinst configure

This should produce debconf debugging output, maybe this reveals the
bug.

Thanks a lot in advance and have an nice day!

Bug#299298: autofs: set -e still too strong

2005-03-13 Thread Steinar H. Gunderson
On Sun, Mar 13, 2005 at 11:10:42PM +1100, Tim Connors wrote:
If restarting autofs when a mountpoint is busy, or if the daemon has
been killed manually, then the script never gets around to doing
anything, failing midsentence, without printing an proper error
message, because the start-stop-daemon isn't protected, despite the
error code being explicitly checked thereafter:

 30600,43 /etc/init.d/autofs restart
Stopping automounter:1-0-23:03:30, Sun Mar 13 [EMAIL
 PROTECTED]:/home/tconnors (bash)

I'll forward this upstream, but I think in general set -e makes a lot more
sense than just silently go on if anything unexpected would fail. To me, it
looks like the init script should simply check the return value of
start-stop-daemon; I don't think just removing set -e is the magic bullet.

(Rest of the mail kept for Ian and the others on the autofs mailing list :-) )

Due to the age of the last upload there are several changed
build dependencies now. For example libservlet2.3-java, libjdom0-java
and also changed directories for ant.

If you want I can prepare a new upload for you. Just drop me a mail.
As a side note, velocity can also be build with free tools now - I
have done it with jamvm for example.

On the other hand bug #245492 requests the new upstream version.
The submitter (Arnaud) also says he has a package prepared.

Bug#299306: alsa-base: with kernel = 2.6.11.x remove option snd device_mode=0660 from modules.conf

2005-03-13 Thread Marko Kaiser

Hi,

after upgrading to kernel 2.6.11.2 I was unable to insmod
alsa kernel-modules. dmesg prints out snd: Unknown parameter
`device_mode' and a whole bunch of kernel symbols missing.

This was caused by the line

options snd device_mode=0660

in the /etc/modules.conf file. So at least I would expect that you state
this in the News.gz file in the next version of alsa-base so that people
have the chance to get knowledge of this change. Perhaps you ask
alsa-upstream for more information on that topic.

Best regards,
Marko

Justification: libhowl0 moving to non-free

Hi,

As discussed on irc, vino on at least ppc depends on libhowl0. Which is
  unfortunately non-free.

For now it seems the best solution is to add --as-needed to you LDFLAGS.

Bug#298314: /etc/init.d/tomcat4 start fails; log says JAVA_HOME is not defined correctly

On Sun, 13 Mar 2005 00:10:25 -0500, Barry Hawkins [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:
~I think I failed to make an instruction explicitly clear before.
 No, you were clear enough.

You have both a Blackdown 1.3.1 JRE and a kaffe install. You need to
explicitly indicate kaffe by setting JAVA_HOME in /etc/default/tomcat4,
That did not make any difference.

since the startup script will try to use your 1.3 JRE instead of kaffe.
~ Note the following line from the /etc/init.d/tomcat4 script:
JDK_DIRS=/usr/lib/j2se/1.4 /usr/lib/j2sdk1.4 /usr/lib/j2se/1.3
/usr/lib/j2sdk1.3 /usr/lib/kaffe
I tried solving it The Wrong Way by removing the JDK_DIRs I did not
intend to use for Tomcat:
JDK_DIRS=/usr/lib/kaffe
Yet, the last lines of the newest catalinadate.log are:
The JAVA_HOME environment variable is not defined correctly
This environment variable is needed to run this program
NB: JAVA_HOME should point to a JDK not a JRE
Is somebody/something pulling my leg here?!

~Because the 1.3 comes first, you can count on it being chosen for
use unless you explicitly set JAVA_HOME for kaffe. That is why I told
you to set it in my original reply on March 6th[0]. Let me know if this
takes care of the issue.
[0] - http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=298314msg=4
I did set that, and tomcat still failed with the same message in the log.

I changed the debian/rules files of bglibs and runit and found that
they build fine with dietlibc (build logs attached).

The logs look good, great. I'll add ppc64 to the dietlibc package, as
well as to the bglibs, runit, and some other packages using diet libc,
with the next uploads.

Thanks, Gerrit.

Bug#299312: spamassassin: spamd should probably not run as root

2005-03-13 Thread Kjetil Kjernsmo
Package: spamassassin
Version: 3.0.2-1
Severity: important
Tags: security upstream

There is an upstream bug that we probably should follow closely, as it
may have security implications, namely this bug:

http://bugzilla.spamassassin.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4086

Apparently, spamd children get root after processing a message, and
this could potentially help an attacker if there are security problems
with SA.

On my system, it looks like spamd runs as root from the start, but it
may just be that the change happens quickly enough so that I don't see
it.

If a fix is found before the release of Sarge, it may be a good idea
to backport it, I guess. One could also investigate whether a
Debian-specific fix is possible, but I'm not up to that task... :-)

Bug#299175: poor package description for svn-workbench

2005-03-13 Thread Jochen Voss
Hello,

I agree that the package description for svn-workbench is poor. I
can't parse it either. Is the program just a grpahical frontend for
svn? Do I want to install it on my machine?

Another thing to consider: the developers reference (section 6.2.4)
suggests that you add the homepage URL to the end of the package
description. See the developers reference for the way to do this.
Maybe this would make sense here, since the homepage contains at least
some screen shots.

I hope this helps,
Jochen

(re)started normal work on my packages e.g. by uploading to unstable
some packages which I hadn't planned to be included in sarge and which
I used to upload to experimental. Afterstep was one of them since the
2.0 version was rewritten almost from scratch so it was sure it would
have plenty of new bugs. Of course there are some bugs, although not
as many as I thought, but despite them afterstep2 is quite usable
now and much better then outdated 1.8.

would be far better, IMHO, to repackage the upstream .orig.tar.gz with the
fonts removed, and upload to Debian without waiting for an upstream release
that may not immediately be in releasable condition.

I think 2.0.4 will be mostly a bugfix release (like any other release
after 2.0.0), so it probably will go to testing anyway.
Obviously I can upload repackaged 2.0.3 (and I will do it
tomorrow), but thanks to mipsel, arm, etc. there is no warranty
it will go to testing before 2.0.4 is released.

But for now I'm lowering *temporarily* its priority to have afterstep
  2.0.3 propagated into testing.

In the future, please don't do this without talking to the release team
 first.

OK. I will do. But I don't think lowering the severity changed anything
apart from having newer afterstep available for testing in sarge now.
Mind you, both previous and current version of afterstep *do* have the bug.

Of course I could have uploaded new package only to fix this bug,
but then I had to wait another some days for afterstep being allowed
into testing. I even thought about doing that until it turned out
that 2.0.3 would finally build on mipsel.

(In this case, afterstep 2.00.03-1 has already been accepted into
 testing today.)

That's great!

Best Regards,

robert

Bug#299270: mysql-server: caused by groups in ldap?

Hi Sean

 is a locally defined group).

Can you test without the --all-static flag to see if that was really the
cause and if so, test the statically compiled version that MySQL ships?

If you can reproduce the problem reliably, it would be nice if you
could switch to the second console and run ps af, and look for

you what plugin is delaying the process, and if it has spawned some
  helper process.

I have sent a separate email to main-only with debug info for this

I assume the hostname setup is correct (that the commands hostname

Another thing to consider: the developers reference (section 6.2.4)
suggests that you add the homepage URL to the end of the package
description. See the developers reference for the way to do this.
Maybe this would make sense here, since the homepage contains at least
 some screen shots.

no, there's one file where it belongs: debian/copyright. Adding it to
several places is just a maintainance burden.

Could you try the Net::Domain::hostfqdn() function when the problem is
present, and see if that also hangs? Seems strange that this should
fail if hostname --fqdn doesn't, but it's the best suggestion I have
  right now.

Do you have a short commandline for me ?

Bug#299316: rsnapshot: FTBFS: aclocal-1.4 missing

2005-03-13 Thread Roland Stigge
Package: rsnapshot
Version: 1.2.0-1
Severity: serious

Hi,

building the package rsnapshot in a clean build environment
(with pbuilder) on i386 results in:

checking for cp... /bin/cp
checking for rm... /bin/rm

checking for logger... /usr/bin/logger
checking for du... /usr/bin/du
configure: creating ./config.status
config.status: creating Makefile
config.status: creating rsnapshot
config.status: creating rsnapshot.conf.default

Now type make install to install the program.

After rsnapshot is installed, don't forget to copy
/etc/rsnapshot.conf.default to /etc/rsnapshot.conf

dh_testdir

system. You might have modified some files without having the
proper tools for further handling them. Check the `README' file,
it often tells you about the needed prerequirements for installing
this package. You may also peek at any GNU archive site, in case
some other package would contain this missing `aclocal-1.4' program.
make[1]: *** [aclocal.m4] Error 1

This can be worked around by installing automake1.4, but this bug should be
solved by regenerating (before building the source package) or touching (at
build time) the respective files appropriately.

Thanks for considering.

Bug#299317: udev: /dev/raw1394 should be created on the start, because raw1394 device drivers are not exporting a dev file in sysfs

2005-03-13 Thread Mantas Kriauinas
Package: udev
Version: 0.054-2
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Hi,

There is a problem with firewire (/dev/raw1394 ) in debian - when udev
package is installed device file /dev/raw1394 simply doesn't exist, while
all needed modules are loaded. I searched google about this and found,
that this problem is because the raw1394 and video1394 device drivers are
not exporting a dev file in sysfs so udev won't make a /dev file for them.
( look at https://bugzilla.redhat.com/beta/show_bug.cgi?id=133798 )

Mandrake linux developers solved this problem simply by adding a line

M raw1394 c 171 0

to the end of /etc/udev/links.conf

(see file udev-links.conf.bz2 in any mandrake udev src.rpm package, newer
than 050, for example udev-054-2mdk.src.rpm )

Please, fix this bug in debian package also, because now Debian Sarge
and Sid users can't work with with firewire devices, for example can't
capture movies from digital video cameras :(

2005-03-13 Thread Mike O'Connor
The webdefault.xml references:

Which in turn references a few other schema documents ... including

Unfortunately our friends at IBM appear to have removed this document.

I do not see such a reference in
http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee/web-app_2_4.xsd, could sun have fixed
this problem already? Or am I missing something?

The page http://www.debian.org/intro/why_debian contains a
paragraph labelled Good system security which begins
Windows 95 has essentially no security. True, but
mentioning Windows 95 first makes it seem rather dated
(someone may conclude that the arguments are no longer

Can this paragraph be updated?
