Description : template-based profile generator for gaim

AutoProfile is an extension to Gaim that allows users to create customized
away messages and profiles using dynamic components that automatically
update on a regular basis. Generated text can include song names from
XMMS, fortune quotes, computer uptime, the contents of a Web page or a
text file, the output of an arbitrary program, and timestamps.

I already have packages available and ready for upload at
http://people.debian.org/~joshk/autoprofile/, I'm just going through
the correct procedure...

While translating the file muse, I encountered the following typos,
which I thought you might like to eliminate in a future release.

_
1.
#. Type: boolean
#. Description

msgid
For a good timing MusE needs to set the real time clock (/dev/rtc)
to a
higher clock rate, and raise its scheduling priority. Usually, only
the root
user is allowed to do this. MusE can be installed \suid-root\, so
that it
always runs with superuser capabilities. In such a setup, ordinary
users can
twist the clock rate as well. However, this is a bad idea in general
because
large applications like MusE most definitely contain security holes
that a

local user might exploit to gain access to the root account.

It is more natural English to use:

For good timing, MuSE needs to set the real-time clock...

and tweak instead of twist.

#. Type: boolean
#. Description

If you intend to use MusE for timing-sensitive recordings, make sure
you
setup a computer with only a few trusted local users, preferrably no
network
connection, and give an affirmative answer to this question. Deny if
unsure.

preferably, because the stress is on the first syllable.

I hope this is useful. :)

Many connection bugs. These probably could be seperate bugs but I think
they all fall under the same piece of connection code,

 1. I want to connect to a localhost PostgreSQL data source, but I cannot
since unixodbc tries to connect to 127.0.0.1 and fails. ::1 is never
tried even though it is the second address that localhost resolves to. I
can connect to localhost 5432 with telnet and it connects to ::1.

 2. Doesn't seem to use addresses in /etc/hosts file. Setting hostname to
an address in /etc/hosts but not in DNS will generate an error that a
 given host cannot be found.

 3. Setting hostname to ::1 displays a message that ::1 cannot be
 resolved.

PS. If connection code is part of the driver, then this might need to be
 reassigned to odbc-postgresql driver.

Er, of course it's part of the driver.

Package: muttprint
Version: 0.72d-1
Severity: wishlist
Tags: l10n, patch

While translating the file muttprint, I encountered the following
typos, which I thought you might like to eliminate in a future release.

_
1.
po:2
auto: Type: note
auto: Description
reference: ../templates:3
Original: 0 Pictures moved!

Pictures in computing are generally referred to as graphics or
images. This allows for different kinds of images, such as photos,
clip art and line-drawings.

So I would suggest:

The graphics have moved.

2.
.po:3
auto: Type: note
auto: Description
reference: ../templates:3
Original: 0
The pictures formerly contained in the muttprint package have now
split out

to the 'ospics' package to allow them be installed without installing
muttprint and the dependencies (tetex-*) or to having installed a
smaller

package for those who do not want the images.

The final sentence is unclear. Do you mean that users who don't want
the graphics files, can now install a smaller package? If so, I would
suggest:

This also means that users who don't want the graphics, can install
a smaller package.

3.
po:5
auto: Type: note
auto: Description
reference: ../templates:3
Original: 0
So, If you want to use your pictures you have used yet you have to do
the

following steps:\n
 a) install ospics ;)\n
 b) change the path to the files in your configuration

So, if you want to use your existing graphics, you need to:

4.
.po:8
auto: Type: note
auto: Description
reference: ../templates:19
Original: 0
perl 5.8 (and the Debian versions before 5.8.0-16 which includes the
fix)

have problems with UTF8 as they apperently double-encode the string.

apparently

5.
po:9
auto: Type: note
auto: Description
reference: ../templates:19
Original: 0
To use muttprint's UTF8 features you need to use that version or
higher...

This is confusing. You've already said that version 5.8 isn't
compatible with UTF-8, then you say here that in order to use
muttprint's UTF-8 features, one should use that version or higher.
That version means perl 5.8 here, which isn't compatible. If you
mean that one must use a later version of perl than 5.8, then I would
suggest:

To use muttprint's UTF-8 features, you need to use a later version
of perl.

I hope this is useful. :)

Either revert prior behavior (preferred) or note change in behavior.
Preferably with a preinst/postinst diagnostic script to look for
  potentially problematic /etc/auto.* entries.

I'd like to close this bug again, for two reasons:

 - With 4.1.4-4, you can have symlinks as mount points, so half of the bug is
   fixed.
 - The newest version of stable (sarge) now has the same behaviour of sid; I
never added any magic to look for problematic automount entries, so it's
too late to fix it for sarge anyhow. Updates across more than one version
aren't supported, so there really isn't a change of behaviour between
sarge and etch anymore. (There goes the other half of the bug.) In any
case, I intend to try to reduce the cruft in postinst etc. (checking for
the old broken versions in sid, for instance) soon; adding more checks etc.
would be counterproductive in that area.

Comments? I'd be happy to throw a few lines into README.Debian if that helps.

I agree, and writing a few notes about that does not hurt anyway.

Mmmm, mod_quota is obsolete. Proftpd 1.2.9+ include mod_quota_tab and
a few other modules. You have to change your configuration as shown
  here:

  http://www.castaglia.org/proftpd/modules/mod_quotatab.html#Usage

The problem is, as far as I can tell, this new module supports only
transfer quotas, not storage quotas. We're really after the storage
side of things as opposed to the transfer side.

I see your point, the old mod_quota did consider also non-ftp
transferred files for quotas. Indeed that was a bad approach, storage
quotas should be managed by fs quotas, properly, not ftp-based.
But that's my own opinion about that.
Currently sarge has been released as is, so this won't be an etch
regression, and it's too late for woody-sarge.
The whole set of old modules like mod_quota or mod_opie
are currently unmaintained, and upstream will probably release
a prxps for compiling in DSO modules (post 1.3.0 AFAIK), so who will
have those kind of problems will be able to compile (and support) his/her own
modules
for that.
On this basis, I would also closing this bug, but anyway I'll add a
brief note about modules obsolescence, before :) Apache as well as
proftpd have dozen of minor modules which are a risk under that
point of view.

and conversion to the new release starting from the very old pre-1.2.6
present in woody is a real challenge. As shown in the debconf template
I largerly warn users about the need to reconfigure after upgrading.

Yep. One thing that could help would be to include the upstream NEWS
 file, I'd suggest.

Why were the storage quotas removed?

  Obsoleted.

Bummer. Unless I'm missing something, the new quotab module doesn't
 actually replace that old functionality.

 this problem. debian/common.variables and debian/common.functions
are no longer .PHONY targets. They are updated whenever Make
decides to remake debian/rules. debian/rules is automatically
updated when one of its sources (debian/rules.in and
 $(eperl_sourcefiles)) is newer.

I don't understand so much about what you've done, but I confirm
that tetex-bin now builds on

Hi Florent,

  target.

Perfect, thanks. So, it doesn't loop anymore. It appears that the
weird behaviour was caused by the use of a phony target as a
 prerequesite of a real target.

The attached patch defines a sort of Make macro called
update_commonstuff, that does what the phony target
commonstuff_update did, but is called only in the clean and
debian/rules targets. There is still a commonstuff_update phony
target in case you want to invoke it from the command-line, but it
is not a prerequesite of a real target anymore.

Probably everybody knows that already. It builds now on

2005-06-11 Thread Ben Burton

Hi,

Thanks for the report, and thanks Roger for verifying that the libpq4
rebuild fixes it.

I haven't uploaded these, but I can NMU if needed.

Please don't -- the postgresql 8.0 / libpq4 transition has only just
happened and the bug report is but a day old, and there are other things
I'd like to look at as well for the postgresql 8.0 upload.

2005-06-11 Thread Jacob
Package: memtest86+

The standard menu.lst for Debian includes the option to build a memtest86
stanza if memtest86 is installed. Since it correctly detects memtest86+ when
update-grub is run by hand, it seems like update-grub should be run by the
postinst script.

Bug#312760: Bug#312761: [bug #13363] Typos in find and locate manpages. (Re: 'find' spelling)

The patch I have actually applied is attached (I don't think 'writable' is a

Did you mean:

1) I don't think 'writable' is a spelling error
2) I don't think 'writeable' is a spelling error

Cause you wrote #1, but judging from context probably meant #2.

In any case writEable is an error:

% echo writable | ispell -l -d american | ispell -l -d british ;echo $?
0 # no output, it's correct.
% echo writeable | ispell -l -d american | ispell -l -d british ;echo $?
writeable # not in dictionaries.

And 'find' in 'findutils' v4.2.20-2 has:

% man find | grep -n writeable
981: Search for files which are writeable by somebody (their
owner, or their
991: symbolic form. These commands all search for files which
are writeable
993: writeable by both the owner and group to be matched; either
will do.
1000: writeable by both their owner and their group.

Unfortunately it seems the modified patch here:

http://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/download.php?item_id=13363item_file_id=2591

Omits my four corrections of 'writEable'. :'(

If doubt remains, see also this search for 'writable':

http://www.onelook.com/?w=writablels=a

...which returns:

We found 7 dictionaries with English definitions that include the word
writable:

General dictionaries General (7 matching dictionaries)

Apologies if that seems like overkill; but it seems safer to err on the
side of caution. Thanks for maintaining these packagages and checking
the other typos -- especially since I have reported one or two bad ones
before. HTH...

Within Apache, I am referencing one of my libnss-mysql users with User/Group

 user is defined in /etc/passwd.

When enabling the libapache-mod-auth-mysql module though, the NSS
MySQL lookup fails though, and the syslog records:

Hi,

I tried to reproduce this bug and was unable :(

I installed a fresh sarge system with apache (1.3.33-6), libnss-mysql-bg
(1.3-2),
libapache-mod-auth-mysql (4.3.9-2).

I made the the nss-mysql configuration using just the minimal in
example directory.

Here is the relevant apache conf:

IfModule mod_alias.c
ScriptAlias /cgi-bin/ /var/www/cgi-bin/

#
# /usr/lib/cgi-bin could be changed to whatever your ScriptAliased
# CGI directory exists, if you have that configured.

Auth_MySQL_Password_Field password

Auth_MYSQL on
AuthName My Company's Financial Information - Top Secret
AuthType Basic
require valid-user
/Location
/VirtualHost

I installed php4-cgi and made a simple /var/www/cgi-bin/test.cgi script

I then went to http://localhost/cgi-bin/test.cgi, authentication
succeded and script was correctly executed with the proper rights.

So ... I suggests that you try using the latest libapache-mod-auth-mysql
as the changelog says a Rebuild for libmysqlclient12 which could help
in your case.

Regards,

Emmanuel Lacour.

2005-06-11 Thread Emmanuel Lacour
I think we should stay with the current configuration. A software such
as suphp cannot have common compile time options suitable for all
users:(

Default php4 cgi configuration doesn't set the user_dir and doc_root
options.

Many users are already using this debian packages and a change like this
one is maybe not what they expect for a software with such security
implications (If I change this compile option I will have to issue a big
Warning on upgrade).

So I think the best think to do is to stay with this configuration, as
it is a tool used by advanced users, they are able like you to rebuild
the package with options suitables for their setup, and we should wait
for the suphp rewrite started by the upstream author which would
probably introduce a run-time config file .

What is the dev file associated with your printer (eg.: /dev/usb/

Which device file is associated with your printer? e.g. /dev/usb/
 lp0, /dev/
 lp0)

e.g. is the abbreviation for ex gratia, which means here is
something for free, and has come over time to mean for example.
Both words are abbreviated, so you need two full stops or periods.
You don't need a colon after that, because it implies, here you
 are: already.

Not all translators will understand that dev stands for device,
so it's a good idea to use the whole word.

Ok, thank you again for your work ! I will include this in my next
release.

Kind regard

Bug#312955: elinks: doesn't clear window title upon exit

2005-06-11 Thread Petr Baudis
Dear diary, on Sat, Jun 11, 2005 at 03:16:08AM CEST, I got a letter
where Florian Zumbiehl [EMAIL PROTECTED] told me that...
When using elinks in an xterm, it changes the title of the terminal
window. When quitting elinks by pressing Q, it doesn't change the
window title back, as, for example, vim does.

In order to do that, ELinks would have to be linked to libX11 and
therefore depend on it, which would do no good for a text browser.

Bug#308416: On power failure indexes get corrupted, even with db4.2_recover called on startup

The solution is quite simple, to call slapindex in the startup script.
Therefore not only db4.2_recover should be called but slapindex, too.

Sorry, but that's not a good idea. slapindex can take quite long and if
the index got corrupted chances are that the database itself it borked.
Nothing will help you in case of power failure (short of mounting the
relevant filesystems read-only) so I suggest to fix the real problem and
not the symptoms.

Bug#310915: munin: repeatedly complained that lock files exist

2005-06-11 Thread Brian May
Hello,

I had a repeat of this problem last night. Right down the errors from
Nagios complaining that there were too many processes.

It seems to happen once a fortnight on Friday.

Only the time was slightly earlier, it happened at around 11:30 this
time.

I guess I should set up some sort of monitor to record a list of
processes running before next Friday week.

Thanks.

Bug#313014: mol-modules tight version bindings make this package uninstallable, thwart security support

2005-06-11 Thread Steve Langasek
Package: mol-modules-2.6.8
Version: 1:0.9.70+2.6.8+12
Severity: serious

The current version of mol-modules-2.6.8 is uninstallable in unstable,
because it depends on kernel-image-2.6.8-powerpc (= 2.6.8-12) where the
current version in unstable is 2.6.8-16. This strict dependency is a
serious problem, and contributed to not being able to get a security-fixed
powerpc kernel into testing in time for sarge. The current dependency
handling is really quite unmaintainable, IMHO, and I don't believe etch
should release with mol-modules in its current condition.

This probably requires first fixing the powerpc kernel-image packages to
encode a module ABI version in the package name, as is currently being done
for most other architectures.

Bug#265631: Status of this bug

wrote:

(this is on my amd64 machine with debian unstable)

   ii jed 0.99.16-5 editor for
programmers (textmode version)

I have no idea to what extent jed uses ncurses, but it's linked against it
in debain for sure.

At that point in time (last year), jed's GPM
dependency may have caused libncurses to be loaded and initialized, but
it doesn't today, so I can't check that.

Unfortunately, I can not reproduce this problem with jed anymore, but as
this was a very time-sensitive race condition and I upgraded my machine
recently this isn't very conclusive.

I am happy to disregard jed, however, if it is just linked against ncurses
and doesn't use it for screen sizing purposes.

So I don't think there's anything we can do about the jed problem, if
that still exists. It looks like the change that Thomas made would
handle this problem, whether or not it's overkill.

Is there still an ncurses bug here?

I am not sure, the only thing in the changelog of ncurses seems to be this
change:

+ fake a SIGWINCH in newterm() to accommodate buggy terminal

emulators and window managers (Debian #265631).

however, this seems unrelated as there it's not a bug in any terminal
emulator or window manager, but in ncurses. As such, I cannot verify that the
fix actually fixes the ncurses bug instead of sth. else.

I think I clearly documented the bug in ncurses, and as I understand the
mechanism well, so I can elaborate further if anything is still unclear.

Unfortunately, reproducing this is a bit difficult, as it depeQnds on
external timing factors and the race is very short.

Bug#313016: evolution: Incorrect Dutch (nl) translation

2005-06-11 Thread Vincent van Adrighem
Package: evolution
Version: 2.0.4
Severity: minor

In the evolution package there are several bad typos (in the Dutch
translation). Those typos are fixed in CVS but there will be no more
releases in the 2.0.x series. In CVS this is from the gnome-2-8
branch. Because debian will use the 2.0.x series for the coming months,
it would be nice to have this updated translation. Especially because
evolution is such a high profile package.

It is an easy fix. Just replace the nl.po in the package with the nl.po
from cvs (gnome-2-8 branch) before building.

Sebastien Bacher wrote:
After upgrading from 2.8 to 2.10 I don't have the Debian menu any more.
Do you have menu-xdg and menu installed?

No I don't have menu-xdg.

But installing menu-xdg and restarting gnome-panel fixed the problem.

Please make gnome-panel depend on menu-xdg.

p.s.
in Applications menu I have an 'Applications' category with GnuCash in
it (was category 'other' in version 2.8).
The Desktop menu also have the same 'Applications' category with
GnuCash, and has the 'Internet' category with Lynx in it.

Thanks.

Bug#312909: Parser fails on a documented example

thanks

Hi,

Yann Villessuzanne:
I tried the following example from the documentation of the package, and the
parser chokes if I choose the article 'an'.

This is a recursive-descent parser; there's no way to do it that way.

You need to write an|a, or add \b at the end.

Thanks for the bug; I'll fix the docs.

Bug#153070: I need some advice on Bug #153070

2005-06-11 Thread Jonathan Buzzard

[EMAIL PROTECTED] said:
It is obvious that the way the program is behaving the bug report is they it
is programmed to behave. I would like to know if there is a better way to
 handle this.

It is a bogus bug report, and probably stems from a lack of understanding
of exactly what hotkey does. In the first instance there should only ever
be one copy of hotkey running. The code makes sure that this is the case.
You don't run two dhcp servers, or two ftp servers etc. and you will find
similar code in these programs as well.

As it was designed the hotkey program should be started with the X server,
and I have it started automatically by GDM at login. It probably should
be restructured to run as a demon.

In the second instance a lot of people have the mistaken belief that hotkey
actually makes the changes to things like speaker volume, power-up mode etc.

For the class of Toshiba laptop it was written what actually happens is that
the Fn combinations make the changes regardless of whether hotkeys is running
or not. What hotkey does is report those changes in a user friendly way
in an manner identical to the old Toshiba MaxTime program.

My understanding is that for more recent models the hotkey program itself
needs to detect the key-presses and make the changes.

Bug#299764: only affects French?

It is more general (e.g Czech and Slovak users need iso-8859-2 fonts
which are in the -transcoded packages).

As Christian Perrier confirmed, we are aiming for UTF-8 for most (if
not all) languages in Etch, so it should be non-issue then.

When I submitted this bug repport I was installing a sarge. The real
issue here was to provide transcoded fonts when they were required.

So to clearly answer to Joey's question, French is not the only language
affected.

This is designed to be an NDIS layer for the linux kernel; all the of
NDIS drivers I'm aware of have been compiled for amd64 and i386. Thus,
upstream has only tested them w/ x86. For powerpc, you would have to
port it; if you decide to do that, or at least try compiling it for
powerpc, I'd love to hear what happens (I suspect you'll run into endian
problems at the very least, however).

Bug#312994: muttprint

2005-06-11 Thread Rene Engelhard
Hi,

Clytie Siddall wrote:
 Original: ???0Pictures moved!

Pictures in computing are generally referred to as graphics or
images. This allows for different kinds of images, such as photos,
 clip art and line-drawings.

 So I would suggest:

 The graphics have moved.

Upstream also says pictures in their documentation... :)

 Original: ???0
The pictures formerly contained in the muttprint package have now
 split out
to the 'ospics' package to allow them be installed without installing
muttprint and the dependencies (tetex-*) or to having installed a
 smaller
package for those who do not want the images.

The final sentence is unclear. Do you mean that users who don't want
the graphics files, can now install a smaller package? If so, I would
 suggest:

Yes. That and the other way round. People only wanting to install the
images (after all, they may be useful elesewhere, too) don't need to
install muttprint (with its dependency on tetex-*) anymore.

This also means that users who don't want the graphics, can install
 a smaller package.

But in this sentence there is no explanation why ;)

 Original: ???0
So, If you want to use your pictures you have used yet you have to do
 the
 following steps:\n
  a) install ospics ;)\n
  b) change the path to the files in your configuration

So, if you want to use your existing graphics, you need to:

No, nothing existing. If they just upgrade muttprint only they don't
have the graphics anymore. That's the whole point of this message; if
they want the graphics again they need to install ospics.

 Original: ???0
perl 5.8 (and the Debian versions before 5.8.0-16 which includes the
 fix)
have problems with UTF8 as they apperently double-encode the string.

 apparently

Thanks.

 Original: ???0
To use muttprint's UTF8 features you need to use that version or
 higher...

This is confusing. You've already said that version 5.8 isn't
compatible with UTF-8, then you say here that in order to use
muttprint's UTF-8 features, one should use that version or higher.
That version means perl 5.8 here, which isn't compatible. If you
mean that one must use a later version of perl than 5.8, then I would
 suggest:

No. I mean a greater version than 5.8.0-16 or some later version of perl itself.

I hope this is useful. :)

It is. But it changes strings quite heavily and I am not 100% convinced yet for
some parts
so I'll look if/when I apply it.
Is your vi translation based on the old or the one with your proposed changes
integrated?

Grüße/Regards,

Rene

If I copy some text from scite and then paste it in openoffice writer, nothing

With kate, mozilla-thunderbird, it works perfectly in the 2 ways...
It may be a gtk bug, but I never seen it before...
It may also be an openoffice bug...

These are probably due to wrong desktop files, there is already a bug
opened on gnome-menus:

Bug#302887: java-common: Should have the same maintainer as the other java packages

From: Petter Reinholdtsen [EMAIL PROTECTED]

 [Arnaud Vandyck]
Why do you want java-common to be listed there?

To make it easier to check the status of all java packages maintained
 by the debian-java group.

What about Debian Java Maintainers in the uploaders field?

Cheers,

Bug#313036: anon-proxy

2005-06-11 Thread Clytie Siddall

Package: anon-proxy
Version: 00.02.39-7
Severity: wishlist
Tags: l10n, patch

While translating the file anon-proxy, I encountered the following
typos, which I thought you might like to eliminate in a future release.

_
1.
.po:3
auto: Type: boolean
auto: Description
reference: ../templates:4
Original: 0
To surf the web anonymously you have to make your browser using the
proxy

server. For graphical browsers like mozilla or konqueror you can easily
configure the proxy information using the graphical setup dialogs.

you have to make your browser use a proxy server.

Note the double space between 'the and proxy in the original string.

2.
po:4
auto: Type: boolean
auto: Description
reference: ../templates:4
Original: 0
Shellbrowsers like lynx or w3m use the environment variables
http_proxy and

HTTP_PROXY. If you want to I will set these variable globally in /etc/
environment. In this case I'll remove it when this package is removed.

Two variables, so you need the plural noun again: variables:

If you want, I will set these variables globally...

Note the double space again between these and variable.

In the last sentence, to which noun are you referring with it? If
you are referring to the variables, I would suggest:

If you want, I will set these variables globally in /etc/
environment, and also remove them when you purge this package.

3.
po:8
auto: Type: boolean
auto: Description
reference: ../templates:18
Original:	0	Execute \/etc/init.d/anon-proxy start\ to manually
start the proxy.

Another double-space. Very strange.

It would be more natural English to say:

You can run \/etc/init.d/anon-proxy start\ manually to start the
proxy.

It's best not to split the infinitive verb form: to start, to stop,
to configure etc. Describing words should be either before or after
that verb form, not splitting it apart. You will hear the incorrect
form in conversation, but it is definitely incorrect in writing.

_

I hope this is useful. :)

Bug#313034: aptitude: logfile, option to log more details like version number

2005-06-11 Thread Bernhard Reiter
Package: aptitude
Version: 0.2.15.9-2
Severity: wishlist

It would be nice if aptitude could be configured to log
a bit more in /var/log/aptitude.

We found the apt-get -s install output to be very useful when locked
during system administration. It contains details like:

  Inst login [1:4.0.3-31sarge3] (1:4.0.3-31sarge5 Debian:3.1r0/stable)

e.g. the following is almost fine:
[UPGRADE] bzip2 1.0.2-6 - 1.0.2-7

but this is not enough
[INSTALL] libmal-dev

at least the version number would be very nice.
Both lines could use the source, too. :)

Best Regards and thanks for the important work on aptitude,
Bernhard

Bug#312940: MySQL not properly installed when upgrading from woody to sarge

2005-06-11 Thread Christian Hammers
Hello Peter

On 2005-06-11 Peter Lynch and Cathy Swanson wrote:
I had woody running on my pc with mysql version 3.23.49. After the
upgrade to sarge, the mysql startup script failed to start the mysql
server. I checked the installed version with the command dpkg -l
'mysql*' and got the following installed packages with their versions:

 mysql-client 3.23.49-8.13
 mysql-common 4.0.24-10
 mysql-server 3.23.49-8.13

That should work, although. Can you check /var/log/syslog or
/var/log/mysql.err for the reason mysqld did not startup?

I believe the mysql-client and mysql-server packages should also have
been upgraded to the same version as mysql-common.

apt-get -u upgrade should list mysql-server (4.0.x) as upgrade candidate.
Does it? If you, please send me the output of whatever happens when you
continue with apt-get.

bye,

[Nico Golde [EMAIL PROTECTED] - 16:42PM Thursday Jan 13]:

 Version: 0.9.11-1

i have the a problem with the new fluxbox package.
It seems that fluxbox parses the configuration files
different than in the last version because now my window
title bars and the toolbar is much bigger than before.
The menu too. I changed nothing in my configuration files.

And what about the font used? It is also different than
 before.

Some of the themes may have changed, and some font handling has been
altered.

I'd suggest writing your own theme, or having a look at the theme
options if you don't like your current theme.

Bug#282175: patch for moving messages

thanks

I have attached a patch to enable moving of messages to a folder with
the --move option. This patch is against /usr/bin/gotmail version

I have not extensively tested the patch but it works for me and looks
like it is not very intrusive.

part of the patch in gotmail_041120.patch)

Bug#305589: init file is read as wrong user

2005-06-11 Thread matt hope
[Tobias Pfeiffer [EMAIL PROTECTED] - 00:14AM Thursday Apr 21]:

I know resolved this issue and hope that someone who is close to the
source can change it appropriately. The thing is that my ~/.fluxbox/init
file had 0600 permissions, i.e. only myself could read and write that
file. After changing it to 0644, everything - including the fbrun thingy
and menu transparency, works fine. I think that somewhere in fluxbox.cc
there needs to be a change made. I'm not really familiar with C++ or X
programming, but I found the following: (I took the source files from
 the fluxbox.org-devdocs.)
 - line 00493: setupConfigFiles() is called which checks the existence of
init, menu and keys (I think) with a stat call and creates them if they
 are non-existing
 - line 00503: some weird thing with m_fluxbox_pid = XInternAtom(disp,
 _BLACKBOX_PID, False) is done
 - line 00521: some more weird stuff happens (weird means that I don't
 understand it *grin*): pid_t bpid = getpid();
 - line 01614: XrmGetFileDatabase() is called to get some kind of
database out of the init file
I think the last thing is the critical point.
 http://static.cray-cyber.org/Documentation/NEC_SX_R10_1/G1AE02E/CHAP15.HTML
says about XrmGetFileDatabase(): If it cannot open the specified file,
XrmGetFileDatabase returns NULL. So I don't exactly know what happens,
but this function call seems to use a different user id than the user's
one, which is quite a pity. I'd be happy to have that changed by someone :-)

( My re-phrasing of the above:

 - Config files werent getting read correctly when file mode 0600.
- Worked when 0644

 - You suspect that somehow XrmGetFileDatabase() gets called as a
different userid to the running user.

)

I must admit some suprise at this. I can't see any way that fluxbox
could run anything at all as anything other than the calling
user. (Except in the case where the calling user is 'root', but even
then, there isn't anything in the fluxbox code that will change
userids.

I suspect that your problem is related to the file
permissions/ownerships on the ~/.fluxbox directory, and the
~/.fluxbox/init file.

Could you please check if the file/directory ownerships are the same
as the user who runs fluxbox?

Matt.

Bug#313042: upgrade to sarge hits bug 278417 : release notes should recommend PERL_DL_NONLAZY=1 workaround

2005-06-11 Thread pmaydell
Package: upgrade-reports

(I'm guessing this is the right place to report this; apologies
if I'm wrong.)

When upgrading my woody system to sarge (following the procedure
recommended by the release notes) it fell over like this:

[...]
Selecting previously deselected package libxft2.
Unpacking libxft2 (from .../libxft2_2.1.7-1_i386.deb) ...
Selecting previously deselected package libxi6.
Unpacking libxi6 (from .../libxi6_4.3.0.dfsg.1-14_i386.deb) ...
Selecting previously deselected package libxt6.
Unpacking libxt6 (from .../libxt6_4.3.0.dfsg.1-14_i386.deb) ...
/usr/bin/perl: relocation error: /usr/lib/perl5/auto/Text/Iconv/Iconv.so:
undefined symbol: Perl_Gthr_key_ptr
dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/libxt6_4.3.0.dfsg.1-14_i386.deb
(--unpack):
subprocess pre-installation script returned error exit status 127
[...]

and then of course everything else in that dpkg run that was
depending on libxt6 failed to configure either.

Judging from the archives this is bug 278417. It doesn't seem to be easy to
just install the fixed version of debconf early because it has all sorts of
dependencies, so I think the easiest thing is probably to use the workaround
suggested in that bug of setting PERL_DL_NONLAZY=1 when running aptitude. It
worked for me, anyway. Since that bug has been closed and archived I'm
filing this bug to say that you need to update the release notes.

This isn't a 'pure' woody system (bunch of stuff from backports
and 2.6 kernel compatibility packages) but I don't think
that's relevant. I have a (nearly) full transcript of the upgrade
session if you want it.

If APT::Default-Release is set to a release name such as sarge or

Or - its also been suggested that this can occur if you are using a

- Matt.

my /bin/sh is a link to bash

In fact, I associate my media keys with aumix and xmms.
If I press 2 times the same key enought fast, fluxbox will run another
instance of aumix before the previous to be terminated.
Then, when the first process exits, his father (fluxbox) doesn't wait it to
exit.
So, the first process has exit, but fluxbox doesn't know it - that makes a
zombie.

Just try to associate a key with the following script :
#!/bin/sh
sleep 10

And then press twice the associated key.
Normally this will produce one process defunct. :)

That's all.

ps : sorry for my bad english, I'm french.

Hi,

When you transfer a file via scp, it appears the old file is truncated and then
written when bytes arrive.
This means the file is unusable while the transfer is in progress and this is
undesired for certain types of files.
Also, if the transfer is aborted the file is left in an invalid state.
Would it be possible to make transfers atomic?

Advantages:
File remains valid during transfer.
