Bug#316271: [Pkg-nagios-devel] Bug#316271: nagios install fails chage: can't open shadow password fileadduser

2005-06-30 Thread prosolutions
So wrote Christian Perrier on Thursday, 30 June 2005:

Subject: Re: [Pkg-nagios-devel] Bug#316271: nagios install fails chage:

 User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.9i
Cc: Daniel [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED],
   debian-boot@lists.debian.org

 Quoting sean finney ([EMAIL PROTECTED]):

i can't be certain without reinstalling some system with an official
sarge installer (i suppose i could deboostrap+base-config, but i still
wouldn't be 100% certain), but i'm fairly certain shadow passwords
are the default these days. looking in the debconf templates for
the shadow package included in the installer iso, i see the default
for the shadow question in true though...

i'll cc this to debian-boot to see if someone could verify this.

Well, the shadow maintainer could have better confirmed also but it
happens he reads -boot as well..:-)

Yes, the default is to install the system with shadow passwords. Both
when passwd is configured from base-config (thus in d-i) AND when it
 is configured alone.

so in your opinion, should this bug be closed or should i reorganize
this bug as nagios does not work on systems without shadow passwords?

in my opinion you should reorganize it because there definitely was a
   problem on the system
without shadow passwords and because i think that the debian installer -
at least some versions of it - were not asking if they should be enabled
when setting up passwd. so it is possible that a good number of systems
do not have shadow passwords enabled and could run into this same

This is not true. Default installs skip the question about shadow
passwords because the debconf priority is high whie the question has a
 low priority.

But, in that case, the default settings are used and the answer to the
 shadow passwords question is True.

So, systems *without* shadow passwords should be very rare, at least
for sarge or above systems installed from scrtach. The only case where
shadow passwords may be disabled are:

I recently did a whole slate of Debian installs with the first release
of Sarge. All of them were done in expert mode and none of them enabled
shadow passwords. Nor was I ever asked to enable them at any point
during the setup. I know this because I *always* enable this when the
choice is presented.

-really really really old Debian systems (I haven't been able to find
when the default was switch to shadow passwords but it probably older
than potato and certainyl far older)

-systems where the admin deliberately chooses to NOT use shadow
passwords by doing dpkg-reconfigure passwd and answer False to
  the question

-systems installed with d-i in expert mode where the admin also did
choose to deliberately answer False to that question

So all cases are very rare.

problem. or maybe you could close it and just have the installer do a
quick test to see if shadow is enabled and then warn about it?

in any case i think not installing for systems w/o shadow passwords is a
  bug,

Depends. In some cases (such as old NIS setups, IIRC), this may be needed.

Bug#316326: gengameng(GNU/k*BSD): FTBFS: out of date libtool scripts

2005-06-30 Thread Aurelien Jarno
Package: gengameng
Version: N/A
Severity: important

Hello,

The current version of gengameng fails to build on
GNU/kFreeBSD, because of outdated libtool.

The version of libtool in gengameng is too old to correctly
support Debian GNU/k*BSD. libtool 1.5.2-1 or later is need.

Here is how to update the libtool in your package (Make sure you
are using libtool 1.5.2-1 or later):
  libtoolize -c -f
aclocal (-Im4 might be needed if there's an m4 template dir)
  autoconf

It would also be nice if you can ask upstream to update libtool
in their next release.

Thanks for your cooperation.

Bug#315914: Priority really changed?

As of Wednesday, the priority of libslang2 is still standard, which
prevents pbuilder from creating a chroot. Is this bug really fixed or
does an ftp-master need to update the override file?

The package priority is required, but there is an override in place of
Standard (the last time I checked). The override should be removed.
I will submit an ftp bug against it.

slang is Priority: required as it is needed by util-linux, which is
required. util-linux needs to be rebuilt against libslang2 (I've done
test builds; no porting needed, just build), then slang1 can be removed
from base (into oldlibs) and libslang2 will be in base.

I wish it would cooperate with the Enlightened Sound Daemon if the

Great, because it already can do it :P, Wesnoth uses libsdl-mixer to play
sound, and SDL already supports ESD, you will need to install the package
libsdl1.2debian-esd.

Template: passwd/shadow
Type: boolean
Default: true
_Description: Enable shadow passwords?
Shadow passwords make your system more secure because nobody is able to
view even encrypted passwords. Passwords are stored in a separate file
that can only be read by special programs. The use of shadow passwords
is strongly recommended. However, if you're going to use NIS you could
 run into trouble.

In passwd.config, which is necessarily called in 2nd stage (otherwise,
you would end up with an empty root user password..:-))):

Were you prompted about the root user password, normal user name,
login name and password ? If so, then passwd.config was used and in
it, we find:

in the state machine

0)
# Ask how the password files should be set up.
db_input low passwd/shadow || true
;;

2)
# Enable shadowed passwords...or not
db_get passwd/shadow
if [ $RET = true ]; then
shadowconfig on /dev/null
else
shadowconfig off /dev/null
fi
;;

So, I really fail to see how you end up with no shadow passwords, but
on any default install, shadow passwords *are* enabled. So are they on
all sarge machines I have ever installed from scratch.

Yes, that's the explanation.

I would not recommend skipping 2nd stage because at this moment
base-config is kinda part of the install process.

Moving some parts of it to 1st stage is among the planned features but
not achieved.

I think you'd better preseed the questions if you want to skip some of
them and, anyway, the user creation is optional as well as exim
configuration.

Bug#316219: More details about this bug report

2005-06-30 Thread Christian Perrier
From a discussion I had with Bastian Blank (waldi) on IRC:

08:42 * bubulle wonders why the hell someone is sayign that shadow passwords
are not enabled on
  fresh installed sarge systems
08:47 waldi bubulle: check the passwd scripts, it never enables them
08:57 bubulle waldi: ? What about the STATE 2 in the state machine?
08:57 waldi bubulle: which is only reached from a reconfigure
08:58  waldi if [ $1 != reconfigure ]; then
08:58 waldi exit 0
08:58 waldi fi
08:59 bubulle hmmm, how is the root password set, then?
08:59 waldi bubulle: base-config calls dpkg-reconfigure base-passwd
08:59 * bubulle checks how base-config interacts with passwd
08:59 waldi s/base-//
08:59 bubulle yeah...so shadow passwords *are* activated..:-)
09:00 waldi no
09:01 bubulle ??
09:02 waldi base-config is called if someone used d-i, not if someone
decides to use debootstrap
directly or just don't install the flagged as optional
base-config
09:05 waldi okay, base-config currently don't work in noninteractive mode,
need to write a bug
09:06 bubulle sure, but in the reported case, the user was using D-I.
However, he just mentioned
that he was actually *skipping* base-config voluntarily, which
explains why he
ended up with no shadow passwords.
09:07 bubulle waldi: and, yes, we have to deal with your #316219 BR
09:08 waldi bubulle: proposal: just call shadowconfig on in postinst if
called with install but
   not upgrade
09:08 bubulle I probably have to move the shadow passwords question out of
the state machine
09:09 bubulle yes, kinda like that
09:09 waldi it won't hurt if someone decides to answer the question with no
later
09:10 waldi anyway, debootstrap won't ever reach this code, as it only does
upgrades
09:10 bubulle I'm not very familiar with debootstrap so feel free to propose
us a patch, it will
 be deeply appreciated
09:11 bubulle ...unless another shadow maintainer actually knows better
about this than me of
 course
09:14 waldi so I need to build my own archive to test that
09:15 bubulle waldi: OK for me to paste this in the bug log for 316219?
09:15 waldi yep

So, we probably need to follow Bastian's suggestion and at least make
sure that shadowconfig is run in postinst. After all, it doesn't
really hurt to run it during upgrades at first look.

2005-06-30 Thread Julien Lemoine
Hello,

First of all, sorry for the long delay for this answer.
Thanks a lot for this remark, it did not realize that
this pre-depends had no sens.
I will tix this soon.

Best Regards.
Julien Lemoine.

* Justin B Rye [EMAIL PROTECTED] [2005-06-24 22:18:21 +0100]:

 Package: xchm
 Version: 0.9.7-2
 Severity: minor

To quote policy, Pre-Depends should be used sparingly.

/usr/bin/xchm is perfectly usable without mime-support even
installed (though I can see why you'd Recommend it); it shouldn't
matter whether mime-support's install-scripts are run before or
after xchm's, as long as they both end by invoking update-mime.

If there is some reason xchm needs a pre-dependency on mime-support,
I'd expect the same logic to apply for enough other packages to
 justify a bug-report on mime-support...

first reboot after dvd/cd install

okay, let me see if I recall correctly. During installation (after
disk partitioning and grub installation) the computer rebooted (that
would be after finishing first stage). it's very possible that the
changed keyboard layout emerged directly after the reboot, however, it
was first noticed in base-config while configuring the apt sources.
The sources were put on the hard disk and trying to set the path to
the sources pressing '/' caused '' to appear.

Bug#316333: nagios: really remove excluded hostgroups from statusmap

2005-06-30 Thread Mathieu Baeumler
Package: nagios
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

The actual behaviour of the statusmap (circular) is to hide excluded
hostgroups, but to draw always the whole map.

When monitoring a lot of hosts, the result is really poor, as the map
is hard to read.

This patch really removes excluded hostgroups from statusmap, thus
making it a lot smaller and easier to read.

I can confirm this bug using a freshly updated pbuilder. Since it
means the package fails to build in current sid, it's RC.

Instead of comparing DEB_HOST_GNU_SYSTEM to linux-gnu, it might be
better to compare DEB_HOST_ARCH_OS to linux instead (and maybe fall
back to using DEB_HOST_GNU_SYSTEM if DEB_HOST_ARCH_OS is empty, in
case you want to stay compatible with sarge build environments).

Does anyone find the --reply=no option to be useful?

I had the same problem. I'll try to address it ASAP, but it might not
be as quick as I would as I'm having a demanding family situation until
the 4th of July. NMUs are welcome, if some DD is reading this.

OTOH, I would really really have appreciated a note from the apt

large number of sub-tunes, which overflows the internal limit of XMMS-SID.
This is a long-standing problem which will be fixed in next release by
replacing the static amount with dynamic allocation. (It _should_ have

However, a trivial patch should fix most occurences of this problem,
although it somewhat increases memory usage...

Additionnaly, the apt-key manpage should specify which fileformats are
accepted for the add option. At least the armored ASCII format is

Is the debian-keyring package installed?

I have installed the debian-keyring package but it does not contain
the expect keyring /usr/share/keyrings/debian-archive-keyring.gpg. It
only contains the following keyrings:

/usr/share/keyrings/debian-keyring.pgp
/usr/share/keyrings/debian-keyring.gpg
/usr/share/keyrings/debian-role-keys.gpg

If this is a doc bug, please point to the correct package (I have not
found any other relevant keyring package).

If this a temporary situation waiting for a new version of
debian-keyring, please reassign this bug to the debian-keyring
package.

Do text search for some string wroten

I tried to build the pages on my ppc and got an error, too. Seems

If I change the line, where B5TOGB is defined in Make.lang, I get
Error 56 instead. This is independent from leaving the
LD_LIBRARY_PATH inside the code or not.

- -B5TOGB = LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$(BIN) $(BIN)/autogb -i big5 -o gb
+B5TOGB = /usr/bin/autogb -i big5 -o gb

If I call the conversion, where make stops directly in bash, that
works fine:

/usr/bin/autogb -i big5 -o gb contact.zh-cn.html.tmp contact.zh-
cn.html

So I have no clue why @$(B5TOGB) $*.zh-cn.html.tmp $*.zh-cn.html
is not working with my change.

How can the Make.lang be changed to use autogb from zh-autoconvert?

Bug#270874: still a problem?

It seemed to have gone away but came back every now and again for me. I have
found one way to reproduce it, and I think that it is not a leak as such, but
a problem where apt_pkg grabs large amounts of memory (about 12Mb per
instance) if sources.list is empty or there are no valid Packages files
available. I've extracted this into a separate script (attached) that
demonstrates the problem.

Since it does not make sense to load the packages database if there are no
packages files I have also added a test to my development apt-proxy that
skips loading the cache if there are no packages files available. This
should fix the problem in apt-proxy itself.

Great, because it already can do it :P, Wesnoth uses libsdl-mixer to play

Great! I wish there was a way to use this package automatically.

Means that we enforce shadow passwords. We can obviously do this,
however, I think that we should move the conditional config based on
the debconf question to the top of the config script.

That way, we will have a behaviour which remains consistent with what
the user may be prompted for by debconf.

Hello,

I just filed bug 316342 here
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=316342, and it
occured to me that the bug can be checked and found by autobuilder -
saving many human hours in process and raising debian quality.

Developer could forget to put dh_shlibdeps into debian/rules, but that
does not mean that users need to suffer because of that.

When these overlays are built as modules, there should not be any effect
on slapd when they are not used in slapd.conf.

The attached patch to configure.options sets the appropriate options
to enable these overlays.

Works here. It just may take some time because it searches for JREs but it
doesn't crash here...

Can you give more information?

Bug#316352: xmms-scrobbler: Suffers from large memory leaks

2005-06-30 Thread Jonathan McDowell
Package: xmms-scrobbler
Version: 0.3.8.1-2
Severity: important

xmms-scrobbler appears to leak serious amounts of memory over time; to
the extent that it's impossible to leave xmms running persistantly on my
desktop machine with it enabled.

For example, last night at 18:55 I hit stop on xmms and ps output was:

noodles 32650 1.1 1.9 76840 20264 pts/4Rl 15:44 2:12 xmms

I haven't hit play since and ps output is now:

noodles 32650 0.3 6.4 122920 66492 pts/4Sl Jun29 4:11 xmms

This *doesn't* happen if the scrobbler plugin isn't enabled; I've had
xmms run for over a week quite happily not growing in size (I forget
how much, but it was certainly under 70M and had exactly the same
playlist).

Bug#316353: installation: Woody oldstable does not contain what was woody stable.

2005-06-30 Thread Paul Beardsell
Package: installation
Severity: important

I desperately need to configure a new box just like another one.
The other one runs stock standard woody. But the oldstable
archives do not contain all the woody packages! I am thus
being forced to upgrade to new stable sarge which would be
fine EXCEPT that there are some bugs in sarge which I am
busy tracking down and reporting.

In short: It should be possible to configure a woody
box by pointing sources.list only at oldstable. It is not.

(The following apt info has nothing to do with this issue - different box.)

Bug#316340: otrs: check for existence of programs in cron scripts

2005-06-30 Thread Andreas Tille
Package: otrs
Version: 1.3.2p01-5
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Hi,

it would be reasonable to check whether programs which are called
by cron daemon really exist. While most of the cron.d entries are
just comments it might happen that one entry was uncommented and
later the program which is called was deinstalled. This happened
in my case with fetchmail. Thus I think the cron.d script should
be enhanced like this:

--- otrs_fetchmail.orig 2005-04-05 23:06:53.0 +0200

would be reasonable this way.

Bug#316350: function do_db_recover() in /etc/init.d/slapd fails if $SLAPD_USER has no sensible shell

Hi,

when TRY_DBD_RECOVERY=yes and SLAPD_USER and this user has no sensible shell,
then /etc/init.d/slapd reports that db4.2_recover failed on the first DBD
database.

The culprit is the command line wiwhich is used to start db4.2_recover.
It assumes that $SLAPD_USER has a sensible shell, which is not guaranteed.

The attached patch fixes it by calling su with the additional option -s /bin/sh

Bug#310590: Notes On Building Aspell Dictionaries

2005-06-30 Thread Kevin Atkinson

A few things to take into consideration.

1) To Minimize the Space Used The Word List Should be Compressed with
prezip -s. (The -s is to resort the word list using the C local
which is needed for maximum compressed with prezip). And than further
compressed with bzip2. You can decompress it by piping it through bzcat
| precat. To give you an idea on sizes using various methods here are
the file sizes for en-common.wl (.cwl is the word list compressed with
prezip)

1224 en-common.wl
 424 en-common.cwl
 136 en-common.cwl.bz2
 164 en-common.cwl.gz
 432 en-common.wl.bz2
 332 en-common.wl.gz

yes bzip2 is WORSE than gzip on a sorted word list.

Also prezip and friends consists of an ANSI C program and some shell
scripts which can easily be separated out into a separate package so that
you can also use them with Ispell if so desired.

2) To avoid spitting out a bunch of warnings during compile you should
clean it by piping it though aspell clean strict. This will remove all
problem words and affix flags that Aspell will complain about when
compiling. The compiled dictionary should be the same with either the
dirty or the clean word list. You can also use aspell clean but that
but that handles some errors in a different way and the resulting compiled
dictionary may be different.

3) Aspell by defaults performs a number of checks when creating a
word list, some if these can be expensive. You can disable the expensive
one with --dont-validate-affixes. If you clean the word list first this
should be 100% safe. It should also be safe to use on a dirty word list
as the invalid affix flags don't cause a problem in the compiled word
list. You may also consider using --validate-words but those checks are
not very expensive.

Bug#316349: /usr/share/doc/shaper/README.shaper.gz: Reference to cache in documentation is incorrect for Debian

David,

thank you for maintaining shaper for Debian. I appreciate your work.

Just wanted to bring a minor issue to your attention. README.shaper.gz
says in one of the first few paragraphs that caching is done in
/var/cache/cbq.init which does not appear to be the case for a Debian
system. I assume that /var/cache/shaper/ is the correct place. It would
be nice if the documentation were to be updated.

Bug#316354: openldap2.2: Please move slapd and slurpd to /usr/sbin

2005-06-30 Thread Peter Marschall
Package: openldap2.2
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Hi,

currently Debian's binaries for slapd and slurp reside in /usr/lib/.
According to my understanding of the FHS and Debian policy this is not
the ideal location for these daemons:
- FHS says: internal binareis that are not intended to to be executed
  directly by users
- Policy requires a per-package sub-directory below /usr/lib/

So, /usr/sbin is the more approproate place for these daemons
(this is also indicated by the links in /usr/sbin).

The attached patch changes the build process so that deamons
and slap* utilitiles reside in /usr/sbin.

This configuration works on my systems for quite some time without any
problems.

xtrlock does not work as a key-binding in sawfish. i tried to figure
out why (using strace) but came to no solution, xtrlock started from a
  terminal window works fine.

This suggests to me that sawfish is at fault, not xtrlock (it works
fine as a keybinding here under fvwm).

Can you get sawfish to emit useful debugging information?

Bug#278461: xfwm4: Focus Follows Mouse Fails

2005-06-30 Thread Simon Huggins

use focus follows mouse all the time and often switch between two
workspaces. I'm sure I /have/ seen it in the past but I wonder if that
was only when I was using 4.0.x
Since then I've been too annoyed by the problem and have retreated to
using Metacity. Somehow it has no problems with the desktop-changing
focus problems. Instead it likes to focus any new window whether
transient or not, related to the focused window or not. I don't like
that behavior, but it bothers me less. Interestingly on desktop switch
while xfwm4 will appear to draw the windows in a random order,
metacity will draw the window under the cursor first. For all I know
this allows it to catch a window-leave event that xfwm4 misses.

Can you reproduce it consistently? If so can you screenshot what you
have on both windows and put an X where your mouse pointer was so I can
  try and reproduce this.
If you can't reproduce it from my description I don't think a
screenshot is going to help. The only thing it would tell you that I
haven't before is my desktop size of 1600x1200. I run into it
consistently switching between the two following ascii diagrammed
 desktop layouts:

   #1#2
  .------. .--. GT = multi-gnome-terminal
  ||||||||  |||-.|||  GV = gvim
  || GT || GT || GV ||  || GT | ||   FF   ||  BL = gaim buddy list
  ||||||  m ||  ||| ||  m ||  IM = gaim
  |`'`'`'|  |`' ||||  QL = quodlibet
  | | | | `'`'| FF = firefox
  |BL|,---.,.| | ,-.| P = pan
  |  ||  IM   || QL ||  |   |   P ||  Nautilus root window
  |  ||   ||||  |   | ||  Gnome Panel along left
  `==--===---'  `=-'  m  = mouse cursor position

For example my mouse will be over FF on #2 (located over GV on #1). I
hear a message from IM so I want to switch to it. I'll hit my desktop
switch key (Control-1) and start moving the mouse to be over IM. The
desktop #2 has disappeared by the time I start my motion, but #1 is
just beginning to draw. I complete my motion and the desktop completes
its redraw, and GV has focus despite my pointer being over IM.

I'm pretty sure I was able to reproduce this with just two multi-gnome
terminals on one desktop (the other empty), but I'm not about to
 reverify that.

Hmm, see if I could reproduce it consistently then we would have fixed
it by now.

I very occasionally see focus issues but generally it works and
especially when I just spend time flipping from one to another.

Maybe it's a race condition and your computer takes a long time to
redraw. Is that possible?

Running 4.2.2 would be useful too.
At this point I think I'm just going to live with Metacity until I
find something better. At this point it's clear that either the xfwm4
team is unaware of or is uncapable of or uninterested in addressing
this behavior (my bet is unaware) and either way I'm not about to be
 satisfied.

Well I haven't reported it upstream as I've not been able to reproduce
it consistently myself. I have seen occasional odd focussing but
nothing I can reproduce all the time.

That's the barrier to fixing it at the moment I'm afraid.

Simon.

Bug#316355: When built agains openssl, openldap2.2 does not Build-Depend on libgnutls11-dev and libgcrypt11-dev

2005-06-30 Thread Peter Marschall

Hi,

the Build-Depends line in debian/control contains entries that are superfluous
when openldap2.2 is built using openssl: libgnutls11-dev and libgcrypt11-dev.

The attached patch fixes it.

Bug#316356: backup-manager: Problems with CD-Burning

2005-06-30 Thread Sven Joachim

Package: backup-manager
Version: 0.5.8-2
Severity: important

I have a problem with writing archives to CDR(W). Backup-manager uses
the variable BM_BURNING_DEVICE both as device for cdrecord and as a
mountable device to verify the burned files. This causes problems for
me: if I set BM_BURNING_DEVICE to a device file, say /dev/cdrw, cdrecord
fails, leaving the following log (footnote 1):

scsidev: '/dev/cdrw'
devname: '/dev/cdrw'
scsibus: -2 target: -2 lun: -2
Warning: Open by 'devname' is unintentional and not supported.
cdrecord: Read-only file system. Cannot open '/dev/cdrw'. Cannot open SCSI
driver.
cdrecord: For possible targets try 'cdrecord -scanbus'.
cdrecord: For possible transport specifiers try 'cdrecord dev=help'.
cdrecord:
cdrecord: For more information, install the cdrtools-doc
cdrecord: package and read /usr/share/doc/cdrecord/README.ATAPI.setup .
Cdrecord-Clone 2.01.01a01 (i686-pc-linux-gnu) Copyright (C) 1995-2004 Joerg
Schilling
NOTE: this version of cdrecord is an inofficial (modified) release of cdrecord
and thus may have bugs that are not present in the original version.
Please send bug reports and support requests to [EMAIL PROTECTED].
The original author should not be bothered with problems of this version.

But if I set BM_BURNING_DEVICE to 0,1,0 as in my /etc/default/cdrecord, the
burning works but not the verification, since 0,1,0 can obviously not be
mounted, as confirmed in the error message of backup-manager:
unable to mount 0,1,0 on /tmp/bm-mnt.4oGUyF.

A workaround that worked for me: as root run (needs GNU sed 3.95 or higher)

sed -i~ 's/dev=${BM_BURNING_DEVICE}//' /usr/share/backup-manager/actions.sh

which will remove the explicit device setting for cdrecord and let
cdrecord the system's default burning device (most people will have
only one anyway)(footnote 2).

Sven Joachim

really means something. I have to think about this. Anyway, we will
fix this after the 4.0.3-36 release.

Bug#316361: openldap2.2: fixes to Quanah Gibson-Mount's quicktool patch

2005-06-30 Thread Peter Marschall
Package: openldap2.2
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Hi,

quanah Gibson-mount has updated his quicktool patch to fix a few issues:
- in libraries/liblutil/ldif.c: correct argumements of
  ber_pvt_log_printf() calls.
This impacts the cases when slapadd -q fails and helps admins to find
  out where the problem is.
- in servers/slapd/slapcommon.c: do not change allowed options for
slapindexr; only do it for slapadd
- servers/slapd/entry.c: slightly different solution for reordering
attributes to add (use less variables.

The attached patch is the updated version that should apply to 2.2.26 cleanly.

CU
Peter

PS: Quanah also has an updated version for 2.2.27 and a few other
patches on his info page at
http://www.stanford.edu/services/directory/openldap/configuration/patches/openldap/

Bug#311264: kwiki 0.36-1 uninstallable due to missing libkwiki-perl

2005-06-30 Thread Nick Phillips

Mohammed Adnène Trojette wrote:

On Mon, May 30, 2005, Jan Niehusmann wrote:

# apt-get install kwiki

kwiki: Depends: libkwiki-perl (= 0.36-2) but it is not installable
E: Broken packages

I have just tried to have a look at this one.

Unfortunately, I did not understand well the packaging:

1/ there seems to be a typo in debian/control:

Depends: ${perl:Depends}, ${shlibs:Depends}, liblocale-maketext-perl,
libkwiki-perl (= 0.36-2)
Provides: libcgi-kwiki-perl

The new package is first called libkwiki-perl and then
libcgi-kwiki-perl. Moreover, it is not defined in debian/control :(

2/ kwiki seems to be a transition package as said in debian/changelog:

 * Compatibility package to enable gentler transition between
old-style kwiki and new-style kwiki, also ensuring that new
users don't accidentally get into old-style kwiki.

and in the description:

This package is here to make sure people don't accidentally
start new Kwikis using the old-style CGI::Kwiki system.
.
If you are starting a new Kwiki, you DO NOT NEED this
package. Install the libkwiki-perl package instead.

3/ however, it doesn't use the classical way to make a smooth
transition, that is to say defining a dummy package kwiki depending on
the new libkwiki-perl package that replaces kwiki and conflicts kwiki.

4/ I have tried to make a submittable patch, but I noticed that 0.36-1
was using upstream's 0.18 release (I may have been mistaken).

As far as I am concerned, I thus think that this package is an
incomplete transition package. Did I misunderstood something?

The fact that the new replacement package was rejected by ftpmaster, and
I haven't completed repackaging yet. I'm working on it.

Cheers,

Nick

Bug#316364: broken plugin handling

2005-06-30 Thread Daniel Baumann
Package: helix-player
Version: 1.0.4-1
Severity: important

The plugin-handling within the helix-player package is completely broken.

1. helix-player assumes one have installed mozilla-browser, which is
*bad*. It does not check if there is a directory existing and, if not,
doesn't creates it.

2. $user may have mozilla-firefox, *please* support at least them with a
plugin too.

3. in general, plugins should be handled as alternatives in this
package, allowing to coexist with realplayer.

Bug#316362: security problem with drupal

2005-06-30 Thread Aleksey I Zavilohin
Package: drupal
Version: 4.5.3-2
Severity: grave
Justification: user security hole

See http://drupal.org/files/sa-2005-002/advisory.txt

Drupal security advisory DRUPAL-SA-2005-002

Advisory ID:DRUPAL-SA-2005-002
Date: 2005-jun-29
Security risk: highly critical
Impact: system access
Where: from remote
Vulnerability: arbitrary PHP code execution

Description
---
Kuba Zygmunt discovered a flaw in the input validation routines of Drupal's
filter mechanism. An attacker could execute arbitrary PHP code on a target
site when public comments or postings are allowed.

Versions affected
-
Drupal 4.5.0, 4.5.1, 4.5.2, 4.5.3
Drupal 4.6.0, 4.6.1

Solution

Either disable public comments and postings, or upgrade to the latest Drupal
version:
- If you cannot upgrade immediately, you can secure your site by disabling
public postings and comments. Log in as an administrator, go to
administer access control and make sure that untrusted roles don't
have the permissions to submit or edit content.
- If you are running Drupal 4.5.x, then upgrade to Drupal 4.5.4.
- If you are running Drupal 4.6.x, then upgrade to Drupal 4.6.2.

Bug#316363: mmv seg fault FIXED; PATCH

2005-06-30 Thread Bernd Feige
Package: mmv
Version: 1.01b-12
Severity: important
Tags: patch

Dear mmv maintainers,

Bug #179337 had been closed because it was deemed irreproducible.
Sadly, the segfault is 100% reproducible on my systems when a target
directory is missing.

Debugging shows that the reason is that the automatic variable FILEINFO
*fdel is not initialized in checkto() and the missing target directory
prevents that it it ever assigned a value before it is checked against
NULL in line 1378. The attached patch fixes this.

Bug#316200: please add application application/ms-tnef

2005-06-30 Thread Brian White

/etc/mime.types has application/vcd.ms-tnef already but some application
attach these files as application/ms-tnef. Can this too be added?

I could, but it really wouldn't gain you anything. The mime.types file
is only useful for converting an extension in to a mime-type. If you're
receiving an attachment already tagged with a mime-type (as all mail
MIME attachments are), then changes to the mime.types file will change
nothing. In fact, the entries with no extensions are just there for
placeholders; they don't actually do anything.

If you want to automatically view the type you're interested in, then
you need to inform the package that provides a tnef viewer and ask them
to also register the alternate type in /etc/mailcap.

Bug#315412: Accepted mgp 1.11b-5 (i386 source)

The log and .mgp files are attached.

Hmm, your mgp tries to use standard.ttf but it is not found in
current directory or /usr/share/fonts/truetype.
| trying to open font standard.ttf
| trying to open font /usr/share/fonts/truetype/standard.ttf
| could not load font standard.ttf, using other rendering engine

Thus, default xfont is used as fallback.

If you want to use some truetype fonts, for example ttf-freefont,
define font as follows:

%deffont standard tfont freefont/FreeSans.ttf

or pathname of other font you want to use, relative to
/usr/share/fonts/truetype or abolute path.

Don't forget to use -x m17n -x xft because m17n or xft precede freetype.

Good news Michael,

Could I ask that you bump your version to -2 so your package will overwrite
the unofficial packages which have been in the wild with a -1 version
increment. In particular the fred.hexbox.de packages, the ubuntu versions
are already lower than yours.

NB You might also need to use the -sa option when trying to upload a -2
version.
