It seems that the problem has been solved by:

 apt-get --purge remove samba

 Reinstalling samba

Configure samba by disabling spnego and large readwrite

Do you have the new smb.conf file, when things are working?

If swami is really able to make use of fluidsynth without the need for any

I suggest also double-checking that the *priority* is
adapted. Displaying errors at priority low or medium makes them very
likely to *not* be displayed so you might really consider whether the
priority is adaptedor if the note itself is really useful, of
course...:-)

If these error notes are really something that your users should see
when the error occurs, setting their priority to high is probably
better.

Bug#388952: qmail-src: [annoying_notes] Abuse of debconf note(s)

2006-09-24 Thread Christian Perrier
reopen 388952
tags 388952 wontfix
thanks

I don't know what this holy war is all about, but I disagree. Unless there is
an absolute policy change that will force the qmail-src package out of the
 distro, I'm not changing it.

Please don't use too strong words just to express your disagreement,
and please leave room for discussion instead of just closing it. This
is why I reopen this bug report and (hopefully temporarily) tag it
wontfix. I won't reopen it if you close it again, but I ask you to
consider leaving time for discussion.

The bug report tried to explain why using low and medium priority
notes is usually considered as a bad idea, even by the designer of the
debconf protocol.

The thread that starts at
http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2006/09/msg00438.html gives the
whole rationale and I suggest you consider some of the followups to my
announcement. More precisely
http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2006/09/msg00443.html

The default priority for debconf is high. This means that medium and
low priority messages are not displayed to users of default installs.

On the other hand, notes in debconf are designed and explicitely
suggested to be used for information that is important enough for
being displayed by debconf during the package installation or
configuration and, indeed, stop the installation process.

Choosing a low priority indeed means that you consider that
information to be not very importantand in such case, it is
suggested to use something else than debconf notes.

This is the whole point of this mass bug filing. Mass bug filing are
not holy wars, but rather an attempt to help maintainers to improve
their packages. It is usually enough work to keep this for important
enough stuff.

In that specific case, the Debian translators are trying to lower the
load induced by (sometimes very long) debconf notes which indeed prove
to be essentially useless.

Bug#389130: cl-s-utils: fails to compile

2006-09-24 Thread Daniel White
Package: cl-s-utils
Version: 20060511-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable
Tags: patch

When loading s-utils, the form (defparameter +us-day-names+ ...)
fails to compile because it is wrapped in some excess 'v' and '^'
characters.

A number of other parameters used for date time functions are also
wrapped by these characters.

Diffing utils.lisp from the main repository against the version in the
Debian package shows that this is certainly the case.

I've included a patch for utils.lisp to remove these excess characters.

Please.

Will do. I hope to get back to you in a couple of days(*).

If so, would it be desirable to have them officially conflict?

No.

Forgive me my ignorance. I'm not an expert on the details of the apt
dependency process. Can you educate me as to why it's not a good
idea?

Well, they don't actually conflict. They are just usually not used
together.
In particular, considering that in sarge, they usually *are* used
together,
it would probably upset quite a few people if we turned this around
during

the upgrade.

If may make sense to drop the -u option from the default ntpdate
options, so
ntpdate doesn't run when ntpd is running. Do you want to try that
out?

(see /etc/default/ntpdate)

Happy to. Once again, give me a day or so to experiment.

(*) The main server for our house fried a disk this morning. I'm
still dealing with the details that remain after getting it back in
working order with a new disk. So it may take me a bit of time to
get to do the experiments. But I *will* do it.

I noticed that the new ntp/ntpdate packages made it into etch
yesterday. That will make the experiments a bit easier. I don't
normally run sid systems, which is why looking at the ntp* packages
in sid didn't occur to me first think.

Enjoy!

Could you try moving your ~/.gnome2/session out of the way or to edit

Another approach is to strace gnome-session.

Bug#384593: xterm: allowWindowOps should be disabled by default

2006-09-24 Thread David Madore
On Fri, Aug 25, 2006 at 12:04:10PM +0200, Samuel Thibault wrote:
There are some concerns with the window operations that XTerm
emulates. CSI 21t (report window title) in particular, because since OSC
0/1/2 ST let you decide of the window title, one can decide what CSI 21t
returns, which might then be read by the user's shell as a command to
execute. The xterm-security attached file is an example of how this
might be exploited: just cat it from any shell running in uxterm or
 xterm, ls gets executed.

Incidentally, I believe this is (or was) a regression: something like
ten years ago, I went through all xterm sequences to see if some could
be exploited in the way you describe, and I came to the conclusion, at
the time, that the window title channel was not exploitable (probably
because xterm sanitized the contents in some way), so I'm surprised to
find this creeping up now. But maybe it was a different race of xterm
(like, Solaris OpenWindows, pre-X11R6), and I'm a little lost in the
pedigree of this program. Maybe my memory serves me badly: I also
seem to recall that one potentially exploitable functionality of xterm
was some way of redefining keys to arbitrary character sequences -
apparently either this is now gone or perhaps I dreamed the whole
thing up.

Sorry for ranting. :-)

on it. I do have a spare matox millenium i could plug in the
pegasos, and just
got a xgi volari v3xt. Will test with them. nvidia is evil and
should be

boycotted anyway :)

If you have a kernel that will boot using BootX on an OldWorld beige
G3 PowerMac, I can give it a try.

Is there an iso I can burn with the necessary stuff on it? I'm not
set up to do netbooting at this moment.

Enjoy!

Bug#389104: Galeon copyright information incorrect

Hi,

On Sat, Sep 23, 2006, Crispin Flowerday wrote:
Please alter the claim to just state GPL v2

Thanks for reporting this bug, I've reworked the copyright file, it
could probably be enhanced to cover more of the dual-licensed files,
but I think it's sufficient to clarify the actual license of Galeon and
 hence address your claim.

I'm attaching you the reworked debian/copyright so you don't have to
wait for packages reaching your distribution.

   Bye,

No, it isn't. The info system is broken, info tee should work fine.
There's a number of bugs about it already, and it isn't something that
 can be fixed in coreutils.

Could you provide the bug number for this info problem, please?

Thank you for your time.

If these error notes are really something that your users should see

Well, I don't think the message itself is all that useful, that is why

Emacs. XEmacs has calc built-in, so you only need this package if you
are using GNU Emacs. Very roughly based on the HP-28/48
series of calculators, calc's many features include:
-* Choice of algebraic or RPN (stack-based) entry of calculations.
-* Arbitrary precision integers and floating-point numbers.
-* Arithmetic on rational numbers, complex numbers (rectangular and
- polar), error forms with standard deviations, open and closed
- intervals, vectors and matrices, dates and times, infinities,
- sets, quantities with units, and algebraic formulas.
-* Mathematical operations such as logarithms and trigonometric functions.
-* Programmer's features (bitwise operations, non-decimal numbers).
-* Financial functions such as future value and internal rate of return.
-* Number theoretical features such as prime factorization and
- arithmetic modulo M for any M.
-* Algebraic manipulation features, including symbolic calculus.
-* Moving data to and from regular editing buffers.
-* Embedded mode for manipulating Calc formulas and data directly
- inside any editing buffer.
-* Graphics using GNUPLOT, a versatile (and free) plotting program.
-* Easy programming using keyboard macros, algebraic formulas,
- algebraic rewrite rules, or extended Emacs Lisp.

Hi

I get crashes trying to open a particular *.pps (no problems with others). It
must be a 64bit bug becouse I can open it with the 32bit version.
Below these lines you have a gdb backtrace.

When I try to Share published printers connected to this system via

interface. Then, when the browser says the server is restarting, it
redirects to a Can't connect to server page, I see that cups is dead
and I can't restart it (at least, not with the init.d script).

This bug is recent known issue and is fixed by upstream.
Fixed version 1.2.4-1 will be uploaded soon.

Hi,

what is the ETA of the update?

Since the current locales do not work with the thunderbird version in
unstable, I'm raising the severity to grave.

If you have no more interestes or time in maintaining the locales,
please say so. As I did take over the firefox locales recently, I would
also offer to take the thunderbird locales if you don't want to do it
yourself anymore.

Robert all, it would have to be something like:

 Robert sed -i /etc/kernel-img.conf -e s,\(.*\)
 Robert */sbin/update-grub$,\1 update-grub,g

Good point. That line looks good (do you need the g though?).

I always add the g so that I don't have to worry on wether I need the g or not.
When I want a more strict regex that would only match once, then I write a more
strict regex rather than removing g. It is easier for me to read it this way.

Yes, please. Do you remember the model exactly ?

Also, i am interested in a x86 test using radeonfb and not vesafb.

Not sure if we ever had a success with g-i on oldworld, so it is less
important, and my prep box has a sis and a matrox, but g-i is too
 big to boot
on it. I do have a spare matox millenium i could plug in the

 should be

If you have a kernel that will boot using BootX on an OldWorld beige

The same should work, but not sure.

Is there an iso I can burn with the necessary stuff on it? I'm not
set up to do netbooting at this moment.

The daily-builds produce a mini-iso, which should do just fine.

Bug#364646: Found a solution (well, at least it worked for me)

2006-09-24 Thread Mark Siewert

Hi Flavio,

this weekend I had seemingly too much time (TM), and decided to get my
fglrx-driver working again. During this, I found out what (probably)
causes this bug. Somewhere in /etc/profile (!), there is a snippet which
sets some environment variables pointing to where the X11 libraries
(LD_LIBRARY_PATH) and the drivers (LIBGL_DRIVERS_PATH) may be found.
These variables still point to the wong location (/etc/X11R6/lib/...)
even on Xorg 7.

And that's it. Just some environment variable mess. I modified the
profile by hand, 3D works again, no more Mesa GLX indirect, strange
behaviour gone.

Hope that helps.

Mark

 `-- pdflatex.log

As you found out these files where the problem. Here comes the
explanation why it is a problem and how this might have happened:

All the various commands latex, pdflatex, etex ... are just links to one
binary: pdfetex. Based on the nameby which it is called, pdfetex looks
for a suitable format file. For example when called as 'latex' it looks
for the format file 'latex.fmt'. Normally these format files are created
during installation and located in /var/lib/texmf/web2c/. However, if
there is a format file in a private tree that comes before the system
wide trees, that format will be used. You can check which format file is
used via 'kpsewhich latex.fmt'.

Now why did you have a format file in you $HOME? You must have called
fmtutil under your UID instead of fmtutil-sys as root at one point.
While the latter is for system wide changes, the former is used for
personal changes. In general it is better and saver not to use the
private trees for things like formats and font-map files.

yep, I agree that UTF-8 should be supported for a wider range of
languages. I think a general solution which starts iconv to transform
the encoding of existing strings to UTF-8 (or other encodings) would be
more useful and reduce duplicated information. If I do not provide such
a patch in the next time we should really apply your patch for now :-)

In theory, it is a good direction.

Many thanks to Eugeniy for his a UTF-8 patch (#366992).

Indeed, without his great help UTF-8 support would be still missing.

Changing encoding to UTF-8 should be simple recoding for HTML and plain
text but... PS and PDF are real work since tool chain (LaTeX) seems to
be using good old local encoding. If you can address both format,
please propose fix. If particular encoding does not mind breaking
PS/PDF build script, they can change to UTF-8 now.

But, ... I think Japanese, Chinese, ... possibly Russian may need good
work. I really do not have time to do it. Practical solution is to
make behavior work with both style. Any well thought action are
welcomed

Bug#389149: perl-modules: Missing unicore/Lbrk.pl, existed in previous version

2006-09-24 Thread Martijn van Oosterhout
Package: perl-modules
Version: 5.8.8-6.1
Severity: normal

Hi,

In version 5.8.4 (the version in stable), there is a file
/usr/share/perl/5.8.4/unicore/Lbrk.pl which is used by the CPAN module
Unicode::Wrap for line break information. However, the current unstable
version no longer includes this file (in the appropriate directory
ofcourse), causing this module to no longer build.

I don't see any mention of removal in the changelog, so I think it has
been lost by accident.

Thanks in advance,

Bug#387752: cups-pdf: support UTF-8

Support UTF-8, so one can do
 $ date|lp
 and not have characters missing.

Kenshi Muto, the key maintainer of CUPS commented over IRC that:

About the CJK issue: there are only a few text-PS converters that
support CJK correctly. Usually we Japanese use a2ps or a2ps-perl-ja with
the encoding option, before printing (it means that we don't trust any PPD
to correctly handle any CJK encoding).

Bug#384386: Do not remove dbmail

2006-09-24 Thread Thijs Kinkhorst
 Please remove dbmail:
 - Last upload in Nov 2004
 - 5 RC bugs, some more than two years old
 - Has never been part of a stable release
 - Only 5 respectively 1 popcon user
 - Two open security problems 290833 and 303991

The maintainer has just uploaded a packaged version of latest 2.1.7, a
major improvement over the old version that was in unstable. It
addresses nearly all outstanding bugs. I don't think removing it is
necessary (anymore).

Bug#365411: hebrew fonts with wesnoth (solved)

2006-09-24 Thread Tzafrir Cohen
Hi

The problem still exists with the version of wesnoth in Etch (1.1.9):
Hebrew shows up as squares, and thus the game is unusable if the locale
is Hebrew.

However if one copies the file DejaVuSans.ttf from the package
ttf-dejavu_2.10-1_all.deb (current version in Sid) to
/usr/share/games/wesnoth/fonts , Hebrew fonts are availble.

Hi!

The logo installed by your package to /usr/share/pixmaps/debian-security.png
looks wrong to me. Compared the normal open use logo from
http://www.debian.org/logos/openlogo-nd-100.png the... uhm... tail in
teh lower left corner is much thicker (and IMHO uglier).

Someone [Dato?] once told me, that the first version has had this thick
tail, but it was corrected later to the beautier thin tail version. So
could it be, that you use the right logo, but an old version of it?

Yours sincerely,
  Alexander

Bug#389088: Segfault when taking a screenshot after disk partitioning

Cristoph, could you please give us an overview of the HW configuration
(HW architecture, graphic board) that caused the segfault?

Hmm. Didn't we have this problem anyway if the button was enabled while
the installer was running? Maybe we just need to look into that and
disable it...

Indeed, Christoph's hw configuration is pretty common (at first i tough
he was runnin the g-i on some exotic hardware), so the bug may be due to
something at a higher level than DFB.
In the GTK frontend the Screenshot button is disabled every time a
frontend_progress_xxx() is called, so i guess it's impossible for one to
click on it while a progressbar is running.
Christoph, were you actually able to take a screenshot *while* the
progressbar was running?

Bug#389152: pwc 10.0.12-rc1-2 no longer compiles under kernel 2.6.18

2006-09-24 Thread Stefan Förster

Package: pwc-source
Version: 10.0.12-rc1-2
Severity: important

The pwc module no longer compiles under the (vanilla) kernel 2.6.18. It compiles perfectly under 2.6.17.13 and 2.6.16.28. I use the same .config file, no changes iro video for linux etc.

I get these compiler errors. It seems that the compiler no longer finds some relevant header files...

I have an HP DeskJet 6840, configured with CUPS, which works fine with

And evince DOESNOT display any error message.

 pdf info says:

Might be a paper mismatch issue: I live in France and so use standard

Can someone confirm that http://rejoignez.club-internet.fr/haut_debit/

thanks.

Bug#389151: Ctrl+S/Ctrl+F - searching page context does nothing

2006-09-24 Thread Emil Nowak
Package: devhelp
Version: 0.12-2
Severity: normal

When I'm reading some page sometimes I need to search it context for specific
string. In devhelp 0.12 this function doesn't work. I remember that it was
working before (maybe in 0.11) there was something like Ctrl+F.

There is Ctrl+S in Go-Search but it's for searching index files not current
page content.

I will start downgrading devhelp - it's getting worse with every new relase :-(

Bug#386773: Is this bug blocking migration of 2.6.17 prebuilt modules into testing ?

2006-09-24 Thread Tim Day
There seem to be prebuilt modules for 2.6.17 in sid ready to migrate
into testing, at least according to the Why is package X not in testing
yet? page, but the way I read it they're being blocked by a release
critical bug on nvidia-graphics-legacy-modules-i386, which is presumably
this grave severity one (but there's a bunch of other reasons there too
and I still don't entirely understand the rules; maybe there's the
remainder of the wait period still to run too).

Anyway, since the availability of the 2.6.17 prebuilts presumably fixes
this, can someone mark it fixed or downgrade it or whatever it takes to
unblock things ?

[Nvidia legacy for 2.6.16 was a dud by the way... see discussions on the
testing mail list around 18th-20th August 2006].

Tim

Bug#389122: rtorrent: wrong build-dependency on libreadline5

This new version got a Build-Dependency on libreadline5. I cannot see
where this library is being linked against in rtorrent, if it's an
indirect dependency that should be reflected in the package directly
needing this library. Second thing is, if that library would be really
needed, the proper package to Build-Depend on would be libreadlin5-dev
which is the one providing the .so symlink.

Hi guillem, this is needed by `bc' and `libreadlin5' is the dependency
 that needs `bc', not `libreadlin5-dev'.

If you mean that bc needs this library then bc should be pulling that
dependency by itself. You should not be adding transitive dependencies
in your packages, only directly used ones.

Is reflected in the used of `bc' during the Build, if I delete this
 dependency then fails to build.

If bc is missing a dependency on libreadline5, then that's a bug on bc
not your package. If you mean that you just need bc, that's fine, but
that does not imply that you need libreadline5 as well.

Hope that makes it clearer.

guillem

Bug#387783: [Debburn-devel] License of cdrkit - GPLv2 + additional restrictions

2006-09-24 Thread Josselin Mouette
Le vendredi 15 septembre 2006 à 23:51 +0200, Francesco Poli a écrit :
Because the hard problems that you pointed out have been fixed. We do

You no longer return schily, but it seems that noone is allowed to
create a modified version of cdrkit that returns schily again or that
returns a SCG_AUTHOR string identical to yours.
This is a non-free restriction that is not present in the GNU GPL v2.

Jörg Schilling interprets this restriction as implied by trademark law
in his country. Replacing the text by a 'this software cannot return
schily because it would infringe on Jörg Schilling's trademark' notice
- or no notice at all - would seem like a fine solution.

After all, it isn't allowed to display (c) Microsoft corp. in a GPL
program, but it doesn't cause any issue with the GPL.

Bug#389156: debconf: Wrong logo installed at /usr/share/pixmaps/debian-logo.png

2006-09-24 Thread Alexander Schmehl
Package: debconf
Version: 1.5.4
Severity: minor

Hi!

The logo installed by your package to /usr/share/pixmaps/debian-logo.png
looks wrong to me. Compared the normal open use logo from
http://www.debian.org/logos/openlogo-nd-100.png the... uhm... tail in
teh lower left corner is much thicker (and IMHO uglier).

Someone [Dato?] once told me, that the first version has had this thick
tail, but it was corrected later to the beautier thin tail version. So
could it be, that you use the right logo, but an old version of it?

Yours sincerely,
  Alexander

Bug#388460: exim4-daemon-light: sender verification is not working

2006-09-24 Thread Andreas Metzler
On 2006-09-21 Marc Haber [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:
[...]
We'll need to think about a way to support sender verification on a
system that uses a smarthost. Andreas' suggestion is a possible
solution, but we'll need to bring our minimaldns configuration option
in the game: We might be using a smarthost because we do not have
 world-wide DNS available.

Probably the most promising idea would be to only activate the
smarthost_verify_dnslookup router if minimaldns is not set and to
warn in the config that sender/recipient verification on a
smarthost-based system with minimaldns set is likely to generate false
negatives (verifying false addresses as correct).
[...]

Hello,
I think that it is ok that sender and recipient address verification
does not work for smarthost setups by default. - These setups are used
mainly or two purposes:

leafsite, @home workstation. - These sites generally are not open for
remote connections.

gateway host: Will need to be manually configured to use callouts or a
manually synced list of remote-parts.

The fact that it took years for somebody to actually discover that
address verification does not work as expected suports my position.

Having something like this in docs might do trick:
---
Sender and recipient address verification will not work for non-local
domains using smarthost setups. As any non-local mail (or for
satellite setups all mail) is simply sent on to the smarthost *all*
non-local addresses are deliverable for exim and therefore verify.

Bug#389115: squirrelmail: Cannot login: reports cross-realm login [EMAIL PROTECTED] denied

2006-09-24 Thread Thijs Kinkhorst
Hello Jeff,

The setup is with a Cyrus(IMAP), Postfix, and LDAP. Cyrus works just fine,
 clients
can retrieve mail with no problems.. Squirrelmail did work fine
at an earlier time. Obviously it is not used much since I'm not able to
 pinpoint
when it broke. I have a similar setup on another machine (running Etch)
 serving another domain,
squirrelmail works fine there.. Perdition is running on the machine that has
 the broken squirrelmail
(believe though that I did check it after installing perdition several months
 ago though it might have
been the time it broke...can't remember). I tried tracking it down by
 increasing the log levels at
various points, but the only info that it seems to report is the cross-realm
 denied thing. The
 squirrelmail src/configtest.php reports no problems.

Thanks for your report. However, I strongly doubt this to be a problem
with SquirrelMail. The message:

Cannot login: reports cross-realm login [EMAIL PROTECTED] denied

is passed straight from your IMAP server; SquirrelMail does not do any
authentication by itself. Checking out the logs of your IMAP server, or
of the authentication backend it uses might yield more clues.

I leave it up to you to reassign this report to any other package if you
discover the problem to be there. Otherwise, I'll close it soon.

Thijs

Bug#389157: noflushd: Noflushd uses up all the cpu-time it can get

2006-09-24 Thread Heiko Weinen
Package: noflushd
Version: 2.7.5-2
Severity: normal

This bug is not reproducible here. At random times, noflushd starts
eating up all free cpu-cycles and remains to do so until it is restarted
by hand or killed. No Log-Messages or similar stuff get recorded.
I think it is possible, that this bug only happens on my local kernel,
which has realtime (rt8) and suspend2-patches added, as I didn't notice
above behaviour until i upgraded the whole system and added this
particular kernel. As such, this bug is filed under normal. Other
people might confirm a severity-upgrade :)
