Bug#317243: aMSN plugins

2006-10-21 Thread Nelson A. de Oliveira

Hi!

(Just now that I am seeing that there were answers on my bug report)

You wrote:
If i understand correctly, you said that there are plugins only to MacOS,
which means they wont work on debian (or not?). if so, i cant see any reason
why there should be a package amsn-plugins with no plugins in it :)

Actually, there are plugins for all plataforms and specific plugins
for Mac OS X.
So the amsn-plugins package will include plugins available for every
plataform (including Linux). Mac OS X plugins won't be included.

A list of plugins is available here:
http://amsn.sourceforge.net/plugins.php

Thank you!

Best regards,
Nelson

Bug#394182: [Pkg-shadow-devel] Bug#394182: cppw: copies to /etc/passwd even with -s switch

2006-10-21 Thread Christian Perrier
(not CC'ind Chad as he subscribed to the ML)

I've looked at the code (in debian/patches/401_cppw_src.dpatch), and
noticed it is checking for the obsolete symbol SHADOWPWD before checking
for the -s switch. Since that symbol doesn't exist (The Changelog says it
has been removed), it goes ahead and copies the file over /etc/passwd
  instead of /etc/shadow.

My first analysis would be just removing the #ifdef/#endif for
SHADOWPWD (and likely SHADOWGRP later).

Nicolas, Chad, agreed?

Bug#394414: agave: crashes when adding colors to bookmarks

2006-10-21 Thread Shawn K. Quinn
Package: agave
Version: 0.4.1-0
Severity: important

Upon trying to add a color to my bookmark list, agave crashes. This
is reproducible with some regularity; sometimes the color is added
successfully, other times I get this crash:

** ERROR **: file gailtreeview.c: line 926 (gail_tree_view_ref_child):
assertion failed: (renderer_list != NULL)
aborting...
Aborted

I got a similar crash when building 0.4.1 from source and installing it
under my $HOME, so this bug may well be upstream.

It's possible severity grave may be more accurate; I'm leaving that as
a judgement call for the maintaners.

Bug#394415: libbttracker0-dev: depends on non-existent libaputil1-dev

2006-10-21 Thread Steve Langasek
Package: libbttracker0-dev
Version: 0.0.19+p4.2213-1
Severity: grave

Hi Tyler,

The libbttracker0-dev package is uninstallable in unstable, because although
mod-bt has been updated for apache 2.2, there is a typo in the dependency
field for this package: libaputil1-dev instead of libaprutil1-dev. Please
correct this ASAP so that we can wind up the apache 2.2 transition in etch.

Thanks,

Thanks for the report! We'll upload fixed version after 1:11.b.1.dfsg-1 enters
testing (it fixes RC-bug concerning non free docs in the source).

An even faster approaach would be to require all affected packages to
register their init scripts by, say, creating symlinks in some special
directory; you'd need to conflict with or special-case versions that
haven't been adjusted to do so yet, though.

We thought about this approach. It requires changes in other packages.
While it's not so complicated to fix packages which are shipped with Debian
(actually there are only two of them) there may be packages, which people build
for custom use.
I wouldn't like to break them on erlang upgrade.

So, I would choose optimizing dpkg -S call and not separate registering erlang
dependent services.

Hmmm, while claiming that all bugs in LFS support cause data loss would be
an intriguing method of forcing these bugs to be fixed, I'm afraid I have to

It's still grounds for NMUing the package for the etch release, though, if
the maintainer doesn't attend to the bug and someone else is interested in
fixing this.

Bug#232492: Announce of the upcoming NMU for the openldap2 package

2006-10-21 Thread Christian Perrier
I am sorry for not answering earlier. Basically I am fine with the NMU,
but it will not add much value as the debconf questions are only used in
the non-library parts of the package which are not built anymore. They
have been superseded by OpenLDAP 2.3 for some time now. The only reason
to keep the old libraries is that they have GnuTLS support, a feature
that we are still missing from OpenLDAP 2.3.

I'd suggest not to spend too much time on those old packages. I'll try
to find the time to remove the unused stuff from the package this
 weekend.

I hesitated a lot before working on that specific NMU as I knew that:

-you're a responsive maintainer
-openldap 2.2 is mostly considered obsolete

Anyway, I started the work because:

-it's not a big hassle
-it gives a rewards to translators

So, I suggest that, if you plan changes to openldap2, you send tha
patch tp me so that I integrate it in the NMU.

An alternative is /me sending you a tarball with the po/ directory
containing all updates I will have received at the end of the call for
translation updates (which ends in a few days).

The last alternative is removing the package from testing/unstable but
I guess you have reasons not doing so..:-)

Your call, Torsten. I'm fine with building/uploading the package and
thus save your time for mor eimportant tasks.

Bug#375433: Please support custom commands in sv and/or runsv

2006-10-21 Thread Andras Korn
Hi Gerrit,

I just realized that for custom commands like 'reload' to work, it's not
even necessary to go through runsv; sv could manage it on its own, just like
it does 'check'. You'd just need the custom scripts in the service
directory, where check resides anyway (or in a subdirectory so you could
have actions called 'run' and 'finish').

sv could then just call the corresponding script when called with an unknown
command argument, preferably changing to the service directory first so that
things like 'sv h .' work (which is what 'reload' would do in many cases).

What do you think?

Bug#394416: please remove upstream password obfuscation feature

2006-10-21 Thread Robert Millan
Package: firefox
Version: 1.5.dfsg+1.5.0.7-1
Severity: wishlist

Please remove password obfuscation from signons.txt. It is annoying and
useless.

Rationale copied from http://gaim.sourceforge.net/plaintextpasswords.php

Obscure a password. This means we do something to store the password in some
format other than plain text, but we automatically convert it for you. This is
security by obscurity, and is a Very Bad Thing™ in that it gives users a
false sense of security. A false sense that we (Gaim developers) believe would
be worse to have than to let informed users deal with the password issue
themselves. Consider that a naive user might think that it is safe to share
his or her accounts.xml, because the passwords are encrypted.

For information, after discussing with kaffe developpers, the problem was most
likely fixed by the upgrade to kaffe 2:1.1.7-4, which includes patches for amd64.

Bug#391342: [RFS]: jsMath:TeX equations in HTML documents

2006-10-21 Thread Frank Küster
[resending to the correct b.d.o address]

Yaroslav Halchenko [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

Packages are lintian/linda clean. Worries might be due to use of
debconf in jsmath to configure web servers. gallery's scripts were used
as a start point. I might in future disable botton in jsMath menu to
look for updates (although it can't hurt so people could buzz me to run
 uscan ;-))

Thanks everyone in advance for looking at.

Some comments:

debian/copyright: I think that a binary deb package is a derivative of
both the upstream source and the Debian packaging.
   According to
   http://www.gnu.org/licenses/license-list.html,
upstream's Apache license (v.2.0) and your GPL for
   the packaging are incompatible.

maintainer scripts:

- it's inconsistent to name them jsmath.config but postinst and postrm
  without the package name prepended

- What's the purpose of this in config:

db_version 2.0 || [ 0 -lt 30 ]

This looks just like || true, and debconf-devel(7) suggests you never
  need this command...

- the config script should try to detect which servers are actually
installed, to make sure the user does not select exactly the one
that's *not* installed. Might be tricky to implement, though.

- the second debconf question is asked with higher priority than the
first (why?), but the text is written with the assumption that the
user has already seen the first question. This should be changed...

- the postinst is probably RC buggy, see policy 10.7.4: The maintainer
scripts must not alter a conffile of any package, including the one
the scripts belong to. At least /etc/apache2/httpd.conf doesn't seem
to be a conffile, but I think this mostly applies to configuration
  files, too.

Moreover, I doubt that this works at all, and I think there are better
mechanisms to interact with webserver packages than that. You write
you've taken the code from gallery, but that doesn't mean that it is
  good.

If I'm talking rubbish here, this is because I don't have much
experience with web servers - but I don't think it's complete
  rubbish.

debian/rules:

- why do you call dh_strip and dh_link?

So much for this package, Frank

While unmounting temporary filesystems they must be unmounted in
pioodl order just as the regular filesystems.

This patch is incomplete, as there is no pioodl program installed by
the dependencies of initscripts. I do not have it installed in my
system, and do not know where it came from.

I'm working with this library fairly regularly for programming
computer vision libraris, and have installed it a couple times. I
would be willing to comaintain with you if you like.
That's great!

What I currently have is an initial packaging (far from being complete
or even heavily tested). It just builds a minimal subset of VXL as static
libs. I still need to figure out if upstream has support for setting
proper so names. VXL seems to provide much more stuff than I need or even know
about.

I'm maintaining the packaging inside a SVN repository (with webSVN
support):

SVN via webDAV:
http://apsy.gse.uni-magdeburg.de/svn/fsl/vxl/

webSVN:
http://apsy.gse.uni-magdeburg.de/websvn/listing.php?repname=fslpath=%2Fvxl%2Frev=0sc=0

I can either provide you with commit permissions there or we could move the
whole thing to svn.debian.org or something.

BTW: I usually like to use dpatch for handling patches. I think the
build-depends already contain this, but actually there is no need for it
yet.

I'd be glad to hear your comments.

Best,

Michael

I agree which is why I also filed a Bug #394385 against glibc. I
filled both because I'm not positive where this should get handled.
I would venture to guess that there should be a patch both in the
 glibc header and in gdb.

Since a patch is available for bug #394385, and gdb doesn't make any use of
the l-k-h PAGE_SIZE declaration directly, I think this bug definitely
belongs to glibc as there is no reason to patch gdb. Reassigning
accordingly.

The current build contains a faulty i965_dri.so causing all GL clients

miscompilation with gcc-4.1. Rebuilding with gcc-3.4 fixes the problem.

Ben, do you happen to know whether this was built with
-fno-strict-aliasing? If not, that might be worth a try, as the Mesa
code generally isn't strict aliasing safe.

Fair enough. I've tagged the package for removal from testing; would you
please file a separate bug against ftp.debian.org requesting its removal
from unstable?

Bug#391375: initscripts: umountnfs.sh: shutdown fails in presence of bind-mounts

2006-10-21 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen

After the latest sysvinit/initscripts upgrades shutdown seems to be
broken. This machine has (among other things) /sys and /dev/pts

Can you test this patch and see if it solve the problem?

Bug#394429: dhcp3-server: init.d script prints ugly messages if no interfaces are defined

2006-10-21 Thread Hadmut Danisch
Package: dhcp3-server
Version: 3.0.4-10
Severity: normal

Hi,

sometimes it is required to start the dhcp3 server not at boot time, but
only if a particular network device is brought up (e.g. plugging in USB
network devices).

For such cases /etc/init.d/dhcp3-server should not start any daemons,
and thus the INTERFACES list in /etc/default/dhcp3-server remains
empty. However, the script still tries to start the daemon with an
empty list and produces an ugly error message.

If no INTERFACES are given to be served at boot time, the script
should silently do nothing.

regards
Hadmut

A full build log can be found at
http://buildd.debian.org/fetch.cgi?pkg=medusaarch=alphaver=1.2-1%2Bb1stamp=1161333524.

likely to be removed from testing if this bug is not fixed quickly.

Bug#394438: exim4: allow SMTP from remote when configuring for smarthost

2006-10-21 Thread A Mennucc
Package: exim4
Version: 4.63-3
Severity: normal

hi

I just did a fresh install of etch, to test it.

During the inital install process, I was asked how to
 configure Exim, and I chose
mail sent by smarthost; received via SMTP or fetchmail
but then I was not receiving external email,
and found out that Exim was not listening to *:SMTP .

So I did dpkg-reconfigure exim4-config and
found out that it had autoconfigured to only receive SMTP
from localhost; but this is in contrast with the above.

Bug#393220: findutils: updatedb ignoring PRUNEFS and PRUNEPATHS

 Package: findutils
 Version: 4.1.20-6
 Severity: normal

updatedb / find is trying to index filesystems even though both the
filesystem type and paths are set in PRUNEFS and PRUNEPATHS and
 should be ignored.

 /etc/updatedb.conf has the following lines,

PRUNEFS=NFS nfs nfs4 afs proc smbfs autofs iso9660 ncpfs coda devpts ftpfs
devfs mfs sysfs shfs sysfs cifs lustre_lite gpfs
 export PRUNEFS
 PRUNEPATHS=/tmp /usr/tmp /var/tmp /afs /amd /alex /var/spool /sfs /GPFS
 /data/blastdb /GPFS/data1 /GPFS/tmp1 /lustre
 export PRUNEPATHS

However, updatedb still indexes the following 3 filesyetems of type
 lustre_lite and mounted under /lustre.
 [...]

Are you running updatedb manually or does this happen when run from
 the cron-job (which sources /etc/updatedb.conf)?

This is from the cron job.

I have not got lustre running here, but I fail to be able to reproduce
the bug:

argenau:~# mkdir -p /lustre/scratch /lustre/blastdb
argenau:~# touch /lustre/xxx /lustre/blastdb/yy /lustre/scratch/zzz
argenau:~# /etc/cron.daily/find ; locate lustre
/lustre
/lustre/blastdb
[...]

If I am adding /lustre to /etc/updatedb.conf /lustre lustre is not
indexed anymore.
argenau:~# /etc/cron.daily/find ; locate lustre
argenau:~#

There is no general bug with stuff that is excluded _both_ by PRUNEFS
and PRUNEPATHS. If I move /lustre to /dev/shm/ (tmpfs) which is
already included in PRUNEFS *and* add /dev/shm/lustre to PRUNEPATHS it
also is not included.
argenau:~# /etc/cron.daily/find ; locate lustre
argenau:~#

Bug#391634: Uninstallable due to unmet dep on libapr0

2006-10-21 Thread Steve Langasek
forcemerge 393603 391634
thanks

I took a stab at fixing modxslt for apache 2.2, but stopped when I ran into
hard-coded references to libapr-0.  The preliminary patch is attached;
someone will need to update the package to use something like apr-config
--link-ld --libs to find the lib name, instead of using a name with a
hard-coded version number.

If this bug is not fixed, it is quite likely that modxslt will be removed
from testing to allow apache 2.2 into etch.

Thanks,

Bug#394437: partman-lvm -- confusing wording on the main lvm screen

2006-10-21 Thread Miroslav Kure
Package: partman-lvm
Severity: minor

On the main partman-lvm screen there is a quick summary in the form

  Template: partman-lvm/mainmenu
  Type: select
  Choices: ${CHOICES}
  _Description: LVM configuration action:
   Summary of current LVM configuration:
   .
Free Physical Volumes:  ${FREE_PVS}
Used Physical Volumes:  ${USED_PVS}
Volume Groups:  ${VGS}
Logical Volumes:${LVS}

The line Used Physical Volumes: ${USED_PVS} does not display only
physical volumes already used in volume groups, but *all* PVs instead.

I think the wording should be changed to Total Physical Volumes: or
just Physical Volumes:.

The other alternative is to change the variable to display the number
of PVs used in VGs ($TOTAL_PVS - $FREE_PVS).

Bug#383919: ion3: Can't reproduce bug

2006-10-21 Thread Jan Niehusmann
Package: ion3
Followup-For: Bug #383919

For me, systray icons work perfectly well, tested with both psi and kmix
(didn't bother to install kkbdswitch). I'm runnung version 20060524-3,
but according to the changelog there are only dependency changes between
-2 and -3.

In cfg_statusbar.lua I have systray=true (default in the shipped config
file) and the template contains %systray. I don't remember needing any
config tweaks to make this work.

Florian, if you want I can send you my configuration so you can test
that on your system.

Hi Neil,

The libapache2-mod-scgi package is now uninstallable in unstable because
apache2.2-common conflicts with the current version, in response to the
module ABI change in apache 2.2. Please update your package for this
transition, which is currently release-critical for etch. A proposed patch
is attached which updates the build-dependency on apache2-dev and also adds
a runtime dependency on apache2.2-common, so that any future ABI changes can
be handled more smoothly without versioned Conflicts.

Bug#344104: On including 64-bit libs in 32-bit packages (see #344104)

2006-10-21 Thread Nikita V. Youshchenko
Question is - does Debian i386 currently support running on 64-bit binaries
if hardware supports it?

Just checked:

$ apt-get install libc6-dev-amd64
...
$ gcc -m64 -o hello hello.c
$ ./hello
bash: ./hello: cannot execute binary file
$ cat /proc/cpuinfo
...
model name : AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+
...
$ uname -a
Linux blacky 2.6.18-1-k7 #1 SMP Fri Sep 29 17:06:47 UTC 2006 i686 GNU/Linux
$ apt-cache policy  linux-image-2.6.18-1-k7

  Version table:

So current debian i386 setup does not support running 64-bit libraries.
If so, probably 64-bit libraries should not included in 32-bit packages.

Btw, if that technically possible, I'll prefer setup where 64-bit libraries
will work (although the most of system will still be 32-bit)

Bug#394443: dspam doesn't work when run as non-privileged users

2006-10-21 Thread Martin Steigerwald
Package: dspam
Version: 3.6.8-4
Severity: important

Hello,

I am trying to get dspam to work with KMail according to this tutorial:
http://www.kde.nl/doc/kmail-dspam/

I let http://babelfish.altavista.com/babelfish/ translate it to english
for me.

Instead of compiling my own dspam I decided to use the latest debian
package.

First I fixed lots of permissions problems: Although dspam executable
is set gid like this

deepdance:~ ls -l /usr/bin/dspam
-rwxr-sr-x 1 dspam dspam 92196 2006-10-19 22:54 /usr/bin/dspam

It can't read /etc/dspam/dspam.config unless I do chmod a+r on it.

brk(0) = 0x805f000
brk(0x808) = 0x808
umask(06) = 022
open(/etc/dspam/dspam.conf, O_RDONLY) = -1 EACCES (Permission denied)
time([1161418817]) = 1161418817

It also cannot write to /var/spool/dspam unless I do chmod a+rwx on it.

I tried using the hash driver and the sqlite driver but I couldn't get
dspam to train a single message.

I did dspam_stats -H martin and fixed permissions again. Then I also
created missing directories

mkdir -p /var/spool/dspam/opt-in/local/martin.dspam
chmod -R a+rwx /var/spool/dspam/opt-in/
mkdir -p /var/spool/dspam/opt-out/local/martin.dspam
chmod -R a+rwx /var/spool/dspam/opt-out/

Then I even copied a prefs file so fix the last error in strace:
cp -a /etc/dspam/default.prefs /var/spool/dspam/data/local/martin/martin.prefs

I tried to train dspam, but it didnt work:
---
deepdance:/var/spool/dspam dspam_train martin
/home/martin/Mail/.trash.directory/Spam/cur
/home/martin/Mail/Lichtvoll/cur
Taking Snapshot...
martinTP: 0 TN: 0 FP: 0 FN: 0 SC: 0 NC:
0
Training /home/martin/Mail/Lichtvoll/cur /
/home/martin/Mail/.trash.directory/Spam/cur corpora...
[test: nonspam] 1144529430.6436.aVaQZ:2,Sresult:
= WOAH THERE =
I was unable to parse the result. Test Broken.
---

I tried to use dspam as advised in the KMail tutorial referenced above:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/Mail/.trash.directory/Spam/cur - strace
/usr/bin/dspam --stdout --deliver=innocent,spam --mode=teft --class=spam
--source=error 1161418412.32329.UkBkH:2,S

I got a long strace output that indicated no error (I will post it in an
extra mail). I also tried without strace.

Still I get:

deepdance:/var/spool/dspam dspam_stats -H martin
martin:
TP True Positives: 0
TN True Negatives: 0
FP False Positives: 0
FN False Negatives: 0
SC Spam Corpusfed: 0
NC Nonspam Corpusfed: 0
TL Training Left:2500
SHR Spam Hit Rate 100.00%
HSR Ham Strike Rate: 100.00%
OCA Overall Accuracy: 100.00%

Then I just gave up for now. As Mark Whitis I did not manage to find out
on how to make use of that package:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=366478

One may think that it doesn't make sense to try to use dspam via KMail,
but there even is a tutorial indicating that it does work and before I deploy
it on a server I want to test it locally (replacing my KMail bogofilter setup i
which is at its end of scalability). I will now compile my own dspam
as instructed in the tutorial and look whether it works better.

Regards,
Martin

Bug#394444: gdm: please use the default language from installation

2006-10-21 Thread A Mennucc
Package: gdm
Version: 2.14.5-1
Severity: minor

hi

I tried a fresh install of Debian/etch/amd64 ; it all went reasonably well;
during install, I was asked about my langauage, I said italian, and then
/etc/locale.gen contains it_IT.UTF-8 UTF-8 and then when I connect to a
console, I get LANG=it_IT.UTF-8

It would be nice if also GDM would use the above as a default language;
whereas, when I logged in into GDM, the language was not set.

There is also a good reason for this request, and this is why
I tagged the bug as minor and not wishlist.

When I successively did su - to switch to root and install
some more packages, then the shell was UTF8 ; whereas the
gnome-terminal was not ; so aptitude started spitting weird
characters.

a.

Bug#394446: libapache2-mod-speedycgi: uninstallable, needs rebuilt against apache2.2

2006-10-21 Thread Steve Langasek
Package: libapache2-mod-scgi
Version: 1.11-1
Severity: grave
Tags: sid

Hi Beowulf,

The libapache2-mod-speedycgi package is now uninstallable in unstable
because apache2.2-common conflicts with the current version, in response to
the module ABI change in apache 2.2. Please update your package for this
transition, which is currently release-critical for etch. A proposed patch
is attached which updates the build-dependency on apache2-dev and also adds
a runtime dependency on apache2.2-common, so that any future ABI changes can
be handled more smoothly without versioned Conflicts.

Unfortunately, some additional source changes also seem to be needed. After
applying the patch, speedy-cgi-perl now fails to build with this error:

APR_BRIGADE_FOREACH appears to be obsolete in apr-1. I don't know what to
replace it with, but perhaps there's a new upstream version of speedycgi
that fixes this?

You can go ahead and upload your packages, I probably won't have time to
get to it for a day or two, and we might as well let the autobuilders
 start cranking.

FYI, I have done most of the work to merge SELinux support
into upstream coreutils. Expect it to hit the repository after
the upcoming stable coreutils-6.4 release.

Bug#394399: [Utnubu-maintainers] Bug#394399: unable to install/uninstall the dmraid

2006-10-21 Thread Loïc Minier
Filippo,

Perhaps dmraid should have a flag to disable this particular error; the
Debian package could pass the flag to dmraid only on new installs.
This would permit clean installation on hardware which has RAID
 metadata.
Another option for such setups might be to have some sort of
reparation phase in the postinst before the invoke-rc.d start.

 What do you think?

Hmm, you seem to have RAID disks, but no RAID set. I'm not sure
whether it is normal that installation fails in this case or not.

Bug#394438: exim4: allow SMTP from remote when configuring for smarthost

2006-10-21 Thread Andreas Metzler
On 2006-10-21 A Mennucc [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:
 Package: exim4
 Version: 4.63-3
 Severity: normal

 hi

I just did a fresh install of etch, to test it.

During the inital install process, I was asked how to
  configure Exim, and I chose
mail sent by smarthost; received via SMTP or fetchmail
but then I was not receiving external email,
and found out that Exim was not listening to *:SMTP .

 So I did dpkg-reconfigure exim4-config and
found out that it had autoconfigured to only receive SMTP
from localhost; but this is in contrast with the above.
[...]

Hello,
even if exim only listens on 127.0.0.1 it will except mail by SMTP,
(SMTP from the local machine), so the question is formally correct.
The packages also asks IP-addresses to listen on for incoming SMTP
connections: at debconf priority medium. - This question is
definitely asked at the correct priority, as it has a reasonable
default value.

Bug#391673: initscripts: TMPFS_MTPTS in umountfs must be ordered (one line patch)

2006-10-21 Thread Peter Rabbitson
While unmounting temporary filesystems they must be unmounted in
pioodl order just as the regular filesystems.

This patch is incomplete, as there is no pioodl program installed by
the dependencies of initscripts. I do not have it installed in my
system, and do not know where it came from.

Erm... you got to be kidding me. pioodl() is a function defined on line
30 in the same script (umountfs).

Cheers

Bug#394450: xserver-xorg: new install , Radeon 9200 dual head : default conf hangs ; solution

2006-10-21 Thread A Mennucc
Package: xserver-xorg
Version: 1:7.0.22
Severity: important

I did a test install of Debian/etch/amd64 ; I have a Radeon card, with two
heads (one digital , one analog ) , and two CRT monitors connected to it
(using good-old analog cables , and one digital-analog adapter )

lspci reports:

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV280 [Radeon 9200]
(rev 01)
01:00.1 Display controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV280 [Radeon 9200]
(Secondary) (rev 01)

After the install, when I reboot, the reboot would hang when GDM tried to start
X ,
(nothing shown on the two monitors, kbd unresponsive ),
and I had to hit reset .

I attach the configuration that was causing the problem

I then changed that config , imitating the XFree config that was working
with Sarge; see 2nd attachemt. If I start X using
 /usr/bin/X11/X +xinerama -layout xinerama_layout
everything works fine.

Bug#394443: running dspam as unpriveleged user: strace output

Hello,

I now compiled dspam myself as in the KMail HOWTO I mentioned. It seems to

In the past, I have also had this problem in a previous version of
nanoblogger, but solved it with the two patches that I have found in this
 bugreport-thread (nb_month.diff, nb.diff).

Hmm, I should have patched it when preparing package, sorry. The patch
for this issue is available here and is already integrated by upstream:

http://dl.cihar.com/nanoblogger/patches/calendar-fix.patch

I will fix it with next upload.

Bug#384894: Not able to exit via close window button in xfce4

I amsynth does not exit when invoking the window close command (the
window x button). This happens with xfce4 4.2.3 and xserver-xorg
6.9.0.dfsg.1-5 and only when starting the shell script responsible for
copying configuration files instead of the amSynth.bin file.

In other words the command kill amsynth kills the shell script but
keeps the amsynth.bin binary and the window running.

 Johan

Hi Johan,

I've been unable to reproduce this problem both in current testing (etch) and
current unstable (sid). Even when using xfce4 amsynth always closes cleanly.

Can you confirm that this is still an issue?

Greetings, Joost

Sound is not working correctly. I can see sound devices and mucking around

attempts so far have been with xmms and an mp3 file (the file is known
 good).

We have first to fix your soundsystem then.

Bug#393645: boo: FTBFS: 'Boo.Lang.Compiler.Steps.EmitAssembly': 'Object reference not set to an instance of an object'

This looks like it might be a CLR version issue. I notice in
the AMD64 buildlog:

[exec] Boo Compiler version 0.7.6.2237 (CLR v2.0.50727.42)

Whereas on my x86 system:

[exec] Boo Compiler version 0.7.6.2237 (CLR v1.1.4322.2032)

I don't know how the 2.0 version of the CLR is being reported
since it looks like all the mono packages being install are CLR1,
eg:

Unpacking mono-jit (from .../mono-jit_1.1.17.1-5_amd64.deb) ...

The problem is not only with Search/Replace. Other features like Mark,
Find, Goto Line and Save as can also not be used with the mouse and the

I use the window manager icewm (version 1.2.28-1 from Debian-testing). Today I
tried to use nedit with kde or wmaker and there I cannot reproduce the bug.

Bug#394438: exim4: allow SMTP from remote when configuring for smarthost

2006-10-21 Thread A Mennucc
hi again

On Sat, Oct 21, 2006 at 12:41:28PM +0200, Andreas Metzler wrote:

The packages also asks IP-addresses to listen on for incoming SMTP
connections: at debconf priority medium. - This question is
definitely asked at the correct priority, as it has a reasonable
 default value.

AFAICR, this question was not asked during my test install.

So I googled around, and found
 http://people.debian.org/~fjp/talks/debconf6/paper/ :
it seems that the installer sets the default debconf priority to high .
Indeed, in my newly installed system I have
# debconf-show debconf
  debconf/priority: high

So, it really seems that that question is not asked during standard install.

even if exim only listens on 127.0.0.1 it will except mail by SMTP,
(I suppose s/except/accept/ )
(SMTP from the local machine), so the question is formally correct.

The question IP-addresses to listen on for incoming SMTP connections:
is formally correct, but is not asked during install, and
its default is not what people do expect from a SMTP server
that is configured to
mail sent by smarthost; received via SMTP or fetchmail

IMHO, when the person installing Debian chooses
mail sent by smarthost; received via SMTP or fetchmail
s/he most probably is sending email anywhere on the Internet,
and is expecting replies from anywhere on the Internet.

But IP-addresses to listen on for incoming SMTP connections:
will be silently set to 127.0.0.1 .

This is not what people do expect.

My suggestion is: if the user chooses to configure Exim4
to only do local delivery, then set the default of
IP-addresses to listen on for incoming SMTP connections:
to 127.0.0.1 ; in all other cases, set it to accept
all connections.

a.

Bug#394456: mono: FTBFS on GNU/kFreeBSD

2006-10-21 Thread Petr Salinger

Package: mono
Severity: important
Version: 1.1.18-3
Tags: patch

Hi,

the current version fails to build on GNU/kFreeBSD.

It needs newer boehm-gc and setup in configure.in.
Also debian packaging have to be slightly altered.

Please find attached patch with kfreebsd support.
It adds debian/patches/kfreebsd_support.dpatch
and adjust debian packaging accordingly.

It would also be nice if you can ask upstream
to include changes from kfreebsd_support.dpatch.

Thanks in advance

Bug#394454: uses HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR for authentication (and other security holes)

2006-10-21 Thread Bas Zoetekouw
Subject: uses HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR for authentication (and other security holes)
Package: chetcpasswd
Version: 2.3.3-1
Severity: critical
Tags: security

chetpasswd uses the HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR for authentication purposes:

   if(getenv(HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR))
  sprintf(IP,%s,getenv(HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR));
else sprintf(IP,%s,getenv(REMOTE_ADDR));

and then goes on to check IP against
/etc/chetcpasswd/chetcpasswd.allow.

Obviously, HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR is not a trusted variable, and can be
spoofed by any scriptkiddie who can read the man page of wget. Simply
spoofing it to 127.0.0.1 will give access to the password changing app
from any remote host.

Furthermore, this cgi script doesn't seem to implement any rate
limiting for the passwd checks, thereby allowing for a dictionary
attack via http. Also, it seems to give different a error message if
the user is not found then if the entered password is wrong, thereby
exposing the names of user accounts to external attackers.

There are also issues with the package not using pam, and its
circumventing of any checks the admin might have in place.

I really think this package needs a security audit.
