Bug#317243: aMSN plugins
Hi! (Just now that I am seeing that there were answers on my bug report) You wrote: If i understand correctly, you said that there are plugins only to MacOS, which means they wont work on debian (or not?). if so, i cant see any reason why there should be a package amsn-plugins with no plugins in it :) Actually, there are plugins for all plataforms and specific plugins for Mac OS X. So the amsn-plugins package will include plugins available for every plataform (including Linux). Mac OS X plugins won't be included. A list of plugins is available here: http://amsn.sourceforge.net/plugins.php Thank you! Best regards, Nelson -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#394182: [Pkg-shadow-devel] Bug#394182: cppw: copies to /etc/passwd even with -s switch
(not CC'ind Chad as he subscribed to the ML) I've looked at the code (in debian/patches/401_cppw_src.dpatch), and noticed it is checking for the obsolete symbol SHADOWPWD before checking for the -s switch. Since that symbol doesn't exist (The Changelog says it has been removed), it goes ahead and copies the file over /etc/passwd instead of /etc/shadow. My first analysis would be just removing the #ifdef/#endif for SHADOWPWD (and likely SHADOWGRP later). Nicolas, Chad, agreed? signature.asc Description: Digital signature

While this is technically valid, it can take a *very* long time on systems with many packages installed, Thanks for the report! We'll upload fixed version after 1:11.b.1.dfsg-1 enters testing (it fixes RC-bug concerning non free docs in the source). An even faster approaach would be to require all affected packages to register their init scripts by, say, creating symlinks in some special directory; you'd need to conflict with or special-case versions that haven't been adjusted to do so yet, though. We thought about this approach. It requires changes in other packages. While it's not so complicated to fix packages which are shipped with Debian (actually there are only two of them) there may be packages, which people build for custom use. I wouldn't like to break them on erlang upgrade. So, I would choose optimizing dpkg -S call and not separate registering erlang dependent services. -- Sergei Golovan -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#232492: Announce of the upcoming NMU for the openldap2 package
I am sorry for not answering earlier. Basically I am fine with the NMU, but it will not add much value as the debconf questions are only used in the non-library parts of the package which are not built anymore. They have been superseded by OpenLDAP 2.3 for some time now. The only reason to keep the old libraries is that they have GnuTLS support, a feature that we are still missing from OpenLDAP 2.3. I'd suggest not to spend too much time on those old packages. I'll try to find the time to remove the unused stuff from the package this weekend. I hesitated a lot before working on that specific NMU as I knew that: -you're a responsive maintainer -openldap 2.2 is mostly considered obsolete Anyway, I started the work because: -it's not a big hassle -it gives a rewards to translators So, I suggest that, if you plan changes to openldap2, you send tha patch tp me so that I integrate it in the NMU. An alternative is /me sending you a tarball with the po/ directory containing all updates I will have received at the end of the call for translation updates (which ends in a few days). The last alternative is removing the package from testing/unstable but I guess you have reasons not doing so..:-) Your call, Torsten. Bug#375433: Please support custom commands in sv and/or runsv
Hi Gerrit, I just realized that for custom commands like 'reload' to work, it's not even necessary to go through runsv; sv could manage it on its own, just like it does 'check'. You'd just need the custom scripts in the service directory, where check resides anyway (or in a subdirectory so you could have actions called 'run' and 'finish'). sv could then just call the corresponding script when called with an unknown command argument, preferably changing to the service directory first so that things like 'sv h .' work (which is what 'reload' would do in many cases). Bug#394416: please remove upstream password obfuscation feature

Rationale copied from http://gaim.sourceforge.net/plaintextpasswords.php Obscure a password. This means we do something to store the password in some format other than plain text, but we automatically convert it for you. This is security by obscurity, and is a Very Bad Thing™ in that it gives users a false sense of security. Elimar Riesebieter schrieb: On Fri, 20 Oct 2006 the mental interface of Kapil Hari Paranjape told: [...] The problem may be that alsa-oss redefines mmap. Perhaps it should be redefining mmap2. Hmm, do you have a special version of mutt which annonces your mail by a voice of choice? Any way, I can start $ aoss mutt with no problems. Well, you can /start/ it, but as soon as mutt /does/ anything substantial, i.e. expunge a mailbox, copy a message etc., it will crash. But I don't know. why I need that. Well, the point is that I had LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libaoss.so in my .bashrc for some time, in an attempt to make OSS applications just work. Obviously this has a number of unwanted side effects. I'm working with this library fairly regularly for programming computer vision libraris, and have installed it a couple times. I would be willing to comaintain with you if you like. That's great! What I currently have is an initial packaging (far from being complete or even heavily tested). It just builds a minimal subset of VXL as static libs. I still need to figure out if upstream has support for setting proper so names. VXL seems to provide much more stuff than I need or even know about. I'm maintaining the packaging inside a SVN repository (with webSVN support): SVN via webDAV: http://apsy.gse.uni-magdeburg.de/svn/fsl/vxl/ webSVN: http://apsy.gse.uni-magdeburg.de/websvn/listing.php?repname=fslpath=%2Fvxl%2Frev=0sc=0 I can either provide you with commit permissions there or we could move the whole thing to svn.debian.org or something. BTW: I usually like to use dpatch for handling patches. I think the build-depends already contain this, but actually there is no need for it yet. I'd be glad to hear your comments. It seems like a hideous hack to have to try to compile NBPG in autoconf. I agree which is why I also filed a Bug #394385 against glibc. I filled both because I'm not positive where this should get handled. I would venture to guess that there should be a patch both in the glibc header and in gdb. Since a patch is available for bug #394385, and gdb doesn't make any use of the l-k-h PAGE_SIZE declaration directly, I think this bug definitely belongs to glibc as there is no reason to patch gdb. Now when I run the program I get this: raised PROGRAM_ERROR : basic_mapper.ads:76 access before elaboration That line is this: package Double_String_Table is new String_Hash (String_Access, False_Free, No_Element); I did the same thing with gnat-gps-4.0.0 and got exactly the same error at exactly the same place: basic_mapper.ads:76. Bug#394429: dhcp3-server: init.d script prints ugly messages if no interfaces are defined
Package: dhcp3-server Version: 3.0.4-10 Severity: normal Hi, sometimes it is required to start the dhcp3 server not at boot time, but only if a particular network device is brought up (e.g. plugging in USB network devices). For such cases /etc/init.d/dhcp3-server should not start any daemons, and thus the INTERFACES list in /etc/default/dhcp3-server remains empty. However, the script still tries to start the daemon with an empty list and produces an ugly error message. If no INTERFACES are given to be served at boot time, the script should silently do nothing. regards Hadmut -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.17-2-k7 Locale: LANG=de_DE, LC_CTYPE=de_DE (charmap=ISO-8859-1) Versions of packages dhcp3-server depends on: ii debconf [debconf-2.0]1.5.5 Debian configuration management sy ii debianutils 2.17.3 Miscellaneous utilities specific t ii dhcp3-common 3.0.4-10Common files used by all the dhcp3 ii libc62.3.6.ds1-4 GNU C Library: Shared libraries dhcp3-server recommends no packages. -- debconf information: * dhcp3-server/interfaces: * dhcp3-server/config_warn: * dhcp3-server/new_auth_behavior: dhcp3-server/new_next-server_behaviour: -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#394437: partman-lvm -- confusing wording on the main lvm screen
Package: partman-lvm Severity: minor On the main partman-lvm screen there is a quick summary in the form Template: partman-lvm/mainmenu Type: select Choices: ${CHOICES} _Description: LVM configuration action: Summary of current LVM configuration: . Free Physical Volumes: ${FREE_PVS} Used Physical Volumes: ${USED_PVS} Volume Groups: ${VGS} Logical Volumes:${LVS} The line Used Physical Volumes: ${USED_PVS} does not display only physical volumes already used in volume groups, but *all* PVs instead. I think the wording should be changed to Total Physical Volumes: or just Physical Volumes:. Bug#394443: dspam doesn't work when run as non-privileged users
Package: dspam Version: 3.6.8-4 Severity: important Hello, I am trying to get dspam to work with KMail according to this tutorial: http://www.kde.nl/doc/kmail-dspam/ I let http://babelfish.altavista.com/babelfish/ translate it to english for me. Instead of compiling my own dspam I decided to use the latest debian package. First I fixed lots of permissions problems: Although dspam executable is set gid like this deepdance:~ ls -l /usr/bin/dspam -rwxr-sr-x 1 dspam dspam 92196 2006-10-19 22:54 /usr/bin/dspam It can't read /etc/dspam/dspam.config unless I do chmod a+r on it. brk(0) = 0x805f000 brk(0x808) = 0x808 umask(06) = 022 open(/etc/dspam/dspam.conf, O_RDONLY) = -1 EACCES (Permission denied) time([1161418817]) = 1161418817 It also cannot write to /var/spool/dspam unless I do chmod a+rwx on it. I tried using the hash driver and the sqlite driver but I couldn't get dspam to train a single message. I did dspam_stats -H martin and fixed permissions again. Then I also created missing directories mkdir -p /var/spool/dspam/opt-in/local/martin.dspam chmod -R a+rwx /var/spool/dspam/opt-in/ mkdir -p /var/spool/dspam/opt-out/local/martin.dspam chmod -R a+rwx /var/spool/dspam/opt-out/ Then I even copied a prefs file so fix the last error in strace: cp -a /etc/dspam/default.prefs /var/spool/dspam/data/local/martin/martin.prefs I tried to train dspam, but it didnt work: --- deepdance:/var/spool/dspam dspam_train martin /home/martin/Mail/.trash.directory/Spam/cur /home/martin/Mail/Lichtvoll/cur Taking Snapshot... martinTP: 0 TN: 0 FP: 0 FN: 0 SC: 0 NC: 0 Training /home/martin/Mail/Lichtvoll/cur / /home/martin/Mail/.trash.directory/Spam/cur corpora... As Mark Whitis I did not manage to find out on how to make use of that package: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=366478 One may think that it doesn't make sense to try to use dspam via KMail, but there even is a tutorial indicating that it does work and before I deploy it on a server I want to test it locally (replacing my KMail bogofilter setup i which is at its end of scalability). I will now compile my own dspam as instructed in the tutorial and look whether it works better. Bug#394444: gdm: please use the default language from installation
Package: gdm Version: 2.14.5-1 Severity: minor hi I tried a fresh install of Debian/etch/amd64 ; it all went reasonably well; during install, I was asked about my langauage, I said italian, and then /etc/locale.gen contains it_IT.UTF-8 UTF-8 and then when I connect to a console, I get LANG=it_IT.UTF-8 It would be nice if also GDM would use the above as a default language; whereas, when I logged in into GDM, the language was not set. There is also a good reason for this request, and this is why I tagged the bug as minor and not wishlist. When I successively did su - to switch to root and install some more packages, then the shell was UTF8 ; whereas the gnome-terminal was not ; so aptitude started spitting weird characters. a. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.17-2-amd64 Locale: LANG=it_IT.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=it_IT.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages gdm depends on: ii adduser3.97 Add and remove users and groups ii debconf [debconf-2.0] 1.5.5 Debian configuration management sy ii gksu 2.0.0-1 graphical frontend to su ii gnome-session 2.14.3-1 The GNOME 2 Session Manager ii gnome-terminal [x-terminal 2.14.2-1 The GNOME 2 terminal emulator appl ii libart-2.0-2 2.3.17-1 Library of functions for 2D graphi ii libatk1.0-01.12.3-1 The ATK accessibility toolkit ii libattr1 2.4.32-1 Extended attribute shared library ii libc6 2.3.6.ds1-4 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libcairo2 1.2.4-3.1 The Cairo 2D vector graphics libra ii libdmx11:1.0.2-2 X11 Distributed Multihead extensio ii libfontconfig1 2.4.1-2 generic font configuration library ii libglade2-01:2.6.0-2 library to load .glade files at ru ii libglib2.0-0 2.12.4-1 The GLib library of C routines ii libgnomecanvas2-0 2.14.0-2 A powerful object-oriented display ii libgtk2.0-02.8.20-3 The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libpam-modules 0.79-3.2 Pluggable Authentication Modules f ii libpam-runtime 0.79-3.2 Runtime support for the PAM librar ii libpam0g 0.79-3.2 Pluggable Authentication Modules l ii libpango1.0-0 1.14.7-1 Layout and rendering of internatio ii libpopt0 1.10-3lib for parsing cmdline parameters ii librsvg2-2 2.14.4-2 SAX-based renderer library for SVG ii librsvg2-common2.14.4-2 SAX-based renderer library for SVG ii libselinux11.30.28-2 SELinux shared libraries ii libwrap0 7.6.dbs-11Wietse Venema's TCP wrappers libra ii libx11-6 2:1.0.0-9 X11 client-side library ii libxau61:1.0.1-2 X11 authorisation library ii libxcursor11.1.7-4 X cursor management library ii libxdmcp6 1:1.0.1-2 X11 Display Manager Control Protoc ii libxext6 1:1.0.1-2 X11 miscellaneous extension librar ii libxfixes3 1:4.0.1-4 X11 miscellaneous 'fixes' extensio ii libxi6 1:1.0.1-3 X11 Input extension library ii libxinerama1 1:1.0.1-4.1 X11 Xinerama extension library ii libxml22.6.26.dfsg-4 GNOME XML library ii libxrandr2 2:1.1.0.2-4 X11 RandR extension library ii libxrender11:0.9.1-3 X Rendering Extension client libra ii lsb-base 3.1-15Linux Standard Base 3.1 init scrip ii metacity [x-window-manager 1:2.14.5-1A lightweight GTK2 based Window Ma ii twm [x-window-manager] 1:1.0.1-4 Tab window manager ii xbase-clients 1:7.1.ds-3miscellaneous X clients ii xterm [x-terminal-emulator 210-3.1 X terminal emulator ii zlib1g 1:1.2.3-13compression library - runtime Versions of packages gdm recommends: pn gdm-themesnone (no description available) ii whiptail 0.52.2-7 Displays user-friendly dialog boxe ii zenity2.14.3-1 Display graphical dialog boxes fro -- debconf information: gdm/daemon_name: /usr/bin/gdm * shared/default-x-display-manager: -- Andrea Mennucc -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#394446: libapache2-mod-speedycgi: uninstallable, needs rebuilt against apache2.2
Package: libapache2-mod-scgi Version: 1.11-1 Severity: grave Tags: sid Hi Beowulf, The libapache2-mod-speedycgi package is now uninstallable in unstable because apache2.2-common conflicts with the current version, in response to the module ABI change in apache 2.2. Please update your package for this transition, which is currently release-critical for etch. A proposed patch is attached which updates the build-dependency on apache2-dev and also adds a runtime dependency on apache2.2-common, so that any future ABI changes can be handled more smoothly without versioned Conflicts. Unfortunately, some additional source changes also seem to be needed. After applying the patch, speedy-cgi-perl now fails to build with this error: [...] /usr/share/apr-1.0/build/libtool --silent --mode=compile --tag=disable-static i486-linux-gnu-gcc -prefer-pic -pipe -I/usr/include/xmltok -I/usr/include/openssl -Wall -O2 -DLINUX=2 -D_REENTRANT -D_GNU_SOURCE -D_LARGEFILE64_SOURCE -pipe -I/usr/include/xmltok -I/usr/include/openssl -Wall -O2 -g -pthread -I/usr/include/apache2 -I/usr/include/apr-1.0 -I/usr/include/apr-1.0 -I/usr/include/postgresql -I../src -I. -DSPEEDY_PROGNAME=\mod_speedycgi2\ -DSPEEDY_VERSION=\2.22\ -DSPEEDY_FRONTEND -c -o mod_speedycgi2.lo mod_speedycgi2.c touch mod_speedycgi2.slo mod_speedycgi2.c: In function 'discard_script_output': mod_speedycgi2.c:343: warning: implicit declaration of function 'APR_BRIGADE_FOREACH' mod_speedycgi2.c:343: error: expected ';' before '{' token [...] APR_BRIGADE_FOREACH appears to be obsolete in apr-1. Bug#394287: coreutils: Updated SELinux patch

It applies cleanly to the package, and I have tested the resulting packages (I am running them right now). You can go ahead and upload your packages, I probably won't have time to get to it for a day or two, and we might as well let the autobuilders start cranking. Bug#394399: [Utnubu-maintainers] Bug#394399: unable to install/uninstall the dmraid
Filippo, Perhaps dmraid should have a flag to disable this particular error; the Debian package could pass the flag to dmraid only on new installs. This would permit clean installation on hardware which has RAID metadata. Another option for such setups might be to have some sort of reparation phase in the postinst before the invoke-rc.d start. What do you think? PS: did you notice there's a new upstream version with some fixes? Do you want me to prepare it? On Sat, 21 Oct 2006 the mental interface of [EMAIL PROTECTED] told: [...] I still get a hard lockup. The file ~/asound_user.names is not created. Bug#394438: exim4: allow SMTP from remote when configuring for smarthost
hi again On Sat, Oct 21, 2006 at 12:41:28PM +0200, Andreas Metzler wrote: The packages also asks IP-addresses to listen on for incoming SMTP connections: at debconf priority medium. - This question is definitely asked at the correct priority, as it has a reasonable default value. AFAICR, this question was not asked during my test install. So I googled around, and found http://people.debian.org/~fjp/talks/debconf6/paper/ : it seems that the installer sets the default debconf priority to high . Indeed, in my newly installed system I have # debconf-show debconf debconf/priority: high So, it really seems that that question is not asked during standard install. even if exim only listens on 127.0.0.1 it will except mail by SMTP, (I suppose s/except/accept/ ) (SMTP from the local machine), so the question is formally correct. The question IP-addresses to listen on for incoming SMTP connections: is formally correct, but is not asked during install, and its default is not what people do expect from a SMTP server that is configured to mail sent by smarthost; received via SMTP or fetchmail IMHO, when the person installing Debian chooses mail sent by smarthost; received via SMTP or fetchmail s/he most probably is sending email anywhere on the Internet, and is expecting replies from anywhere on the Internet. But IP-addresses to listen on for incoming SMTP connections: will be silently set to 127.0.0.1 . This is not what people do expect. My suggestion is: if the user chooses to configure Exim4 to only do local delivery, then set the default of IP-addresses to listen on for incoming SMTP connections: to 127.0.0.1 ; in all other cases, set it to accept all connections. a. -- Andrea Mennucc -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#394454: uses HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR for authentication (and other security holes)
Subject: uses HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR for authentication (and other security holes) Package: chetcpasswd Version: 2.3.3-1 Severity: critical Tags: security chetpasswd uses the HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR for authentication purposes: if(getenv(HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR)) sprintf(IP,%s,getenv(HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR)); else sprintf(IP,%s,getenv(REMOTE_ADDR)); and then goes on to check IP against /etc/chetcpasswd/chetcpasswd.allow. Obviously, HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR is not a trusted variable, and can be spoofed by any scriptkiddie who can read the man page of wget. Simply spoofing it to 127.0.0.1 will give access to the password changing app from any remote host. Furthermore, this cgi script doesn't seem to implement any rate limiting for the passwd checks, thereby allowing for a dictionary attack via http. Also, it seems to give different a error message if the user is not found then if the entered password is wrong, thereby exposing the names of user accounts to external attackers. There are also issues with the package not using pam, and its circumventing of any checks the admin might have in place. I really think this package needs a security audit. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (200, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Kernel: Linux 2.6.17.8 Locale: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#394458: eog: Image switch on slide show depends on image size
Package: eog Version: 2.14.3-1 Severity: normal -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 If starting a slide show in EOG, pictures of size 1MB take forever to load, causing it to override settings for Switch image after:. This is especially annoying when the next picture is smaller: You end up with display times that vary between 1 and 15 seconds if the Switch image after option is set to 5 seconds. If you can't get images to load faster, please consider forcing each display at least for the time specified. Bug#394461: python2.3-lasso: empty package on arm
Package: python2.3-lasso Version: 0.6.5-2 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable Hi, as seen on packages.debian.org, the python2.3-lasso package is currently empty on arm. (The buildd log isn't available on buildd.debian.org for some reason, so I can't guess why.) Cheers, -- Niko Tyni [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Bug#363324: Dummy bug
Note that this bug no longer applies, but is kept open as a dummy britney-helping bug to avoid the package to reenter testing once linux-2.6 is updated, in case nvidia-graphics-drivers is not in testing then. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe.
