Bug#418007: xorg: [debconf_rewrite] Debconf templates review

2007-04-06 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: xorg
Version: N/A
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Dear Debian maintainer,

On Saturday, March 17, 2007, I notified you of the beginning of a review process
concerning debconf templates for xorg.

The debian-l10n-english contributors have now reviewed these templates,
and the proposed changes are attached to this bug report.

Please review the suggested changes are suggested, and if you have any
objections, let me know in the next 3 days.

Please try to avoid uploading xorg with these changes right now.

The second phase of this process will begin on Monday, April 09, 2007, when I
will
coordinate updates to translations of debconf templates.

The existing translators will be notified of the changes: they will
receive an updated PO file for their language.

Simultaneously, a general call for new translations will be sent to
the debian-i18n mailing list.

Both these calls for translations will request updates to be sent as
individual bug reports. That will probably trigger a lot of bug
reports against your package, but these should be easier to deal with.

The call for translation updates and new translations will run until
Saturday, April 21, 2007. Please avoid uploading a package with fixed or changed
debconf templates and/or translation updates in the meantime. Of
course, other changes are safe.

On Sunday, April 22, 2007, I will contact you again and will send a final patch
summarizing all the updates (changes to debconf templates,
updates to debconf translations and new debconf translations).

Again, thanks for your attention and cooperation.

Bug#417976: [INTL:ka] XKB Georgian keyboard layouts

2007-04-06 Thread Christian Perrier
The patch has already been reported in upstream (freedekstop), just
wanted to make sure it reaches Debian sooner.

I'm not really sure that this will happen. When it comes at etch, it
is now definitely too late given the planned release date (next
week-end!)...and we can safely bet that, if the layout is fixed
upstream, it will reach Debian lenny pretty soon.

So, in short, if this bug has been reported upstream, I see a very low
benefit in keeping it opened in Debian.

 Cheers,

Wouldn't it be better to set the mode instead of alter it? What if the
next mknod decides to not give r permissions on /dev/root or
something? Just seems more robust to chmod to 0400 or 0600.

What if the DAK screws up and forgets to create a Packages file for
some arch one day? Yes, that happened before. a just have an
'--ignore-missing-arch' would suddenly remove all the previously
mirrord debs.

There is always a problem to detect when a mirror is broken and when
it is actualy setup bad. Given that an archive without Release file is
quite unusable with the secure apt in etch anyway I think it is
acceptable for debmirror to insist on them for full functionality too.

Do you have any case where those files are actualy missing on purpose?
Hopefully nobody does that anymore.

Bug#418009: utmp.5 innaccurate re xterm, outdated re libc5

2007-04-06 Thread Joey Hess
Package: manpages
Version: 2.43-0
Severity: minor

xdm(8) should not create a utmp record, because there is no assigned
terminal. Letting it create one will result in errors, such as #fin#
ger: cannot stat /dev/machine.dom#. It should create wtmp entries,
   though, just like ftpd(8) does.

IIRC we _did_ have some breakage when xdm started adding utmp records, but
that was long ago, and all fixed by now, and it does create utmp records now.
So this paragraph is out of date.

Note that the utmp struct from libc5 has changed in libc6. Because of
this, binaries using the old libc5 struct will corrupt /var/run/utmp
   and/or /var/log/wtmp. Debian systems include a patched libc5 which
uses the new utmp format. The problem still exists with wtmp since
   it’s accessed directly in libc5.

Of course, Debian systems no longer contain a libc5 as of etch.

Bug#369061: --ignore-missing-arch

What if the DAK screws up and forgets to create a Packages file for
some arch one day? Yes, that happened before. a just have an
'--ignore-missing-arch' would suddenly remove all the previously
 mirrord debs.

depends on how you code it.

--ignore-missing-arch could mean that debmirror completely ignores even the
presence of that arch in the local archive.

personally, i'd assume that that's what --ignore means - actually ignore
it, not delete it because the remote mirror doesn't have it.

that could be the default, and if you felt that there was a need to override
the default in some cases, have a '--delete-missing-arch' option as well.

 Hopefully nobody does that anymore.

stable amd64
woody amd64
anything pre-etch amd64

how about just a quick hack fix to ignore missing amd64 for stable (and
woody too, i suppose), then? that's the most common cause for complaint
with this particular bug - i only found it because i wanted to add
'stable' to my mirror at work and found that i can't if i am mirroring
amd64 (which i am, because my servers at work are amd64 boxes).

the problem will mostly go away, at least for debian's archive, when
etch is released. very few people will still be mirroring sarge or woody
at that point.

Take a look at the oss-compat package. Simply add this package to the

Bug#417881: exaile depends on gestreamer0.10-esd

2007-04-06 Thread François Févotte

Hi,

Thanks for reporting this bug. I will consider making exaile depend on
only one of the two gstreamer packages.

However, I am not sure how to do it properly (for example, we want to
avoid alsa users installing gstreamer0.10-esd but not
gstreamer0.10-alsa).

Thanks,
  François

On 4/5/07, Alex [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

Exaile depends on both gstreamer0.10-esd and gstreamer0.10-alsa. I don't
use the esd so there is no real need to install the former.

I know that the upstream packages from exaile.org also include these
dependencies but changing them to gstreamer0.10-esd |
gstreamer0.10-alsa makes more sense in my opinion. In fact exaile works
perfectly without the esd-plugin.

More things missing:

libdevmapper.so.1.02
libreadline.so.5
libselinux.so.1
libsepol.so.1
libncurses.so.5
libdl.so.1
pivot_root

Further it doesn't copy my /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf over.

Finally, the decription says a requirement is that all modules needed for
booting must be compiled into the kernel... yet the script calls modprobe -
but it doesn't include modprobe in the initrd. So either it should include
it (and then the /lib/modules/`uname -r`) tree, or it shouldn't attempt to
use it.

As of now I'm finally able use the initrd to get RAID and LVM up and the
system booted. If I find anything else, I'll let you know.

any rate, the short term fix is to chmod 0755 the directory - that's
what it is here, and everywhere I've checked.

windows users expect the task manager to be in the right-click menu on

access to a useful tool thats used relatively often, it would be nice to
have access to gnome-system-monitor in the xfce4-panel right-click menu.

thank you for your consideration.

Well.. i am neither the panel-developer, nor a debian packager... but...

ARE YOU INSANE?!!!11

sorry, I lost it there... let me explain:

First of all: there is the xfce4-taskmanager (dunno if it's in the
debian repos yet)

Second:
Xfce4-panel is an xfce-core application. Adding the
gnome-system-monitor launcher to it would be a death-sin.
gnome-system-monitor depends on a lot of gnome-libs. using it with
xfce kind of beats the purpose. (Running Xfce in 50MB of ram is
really out of the question then)

Third:
The right-click menu has a clear purpose aswell:
1) on the panel, it is for adding and removing plugins.
2) on a window-button in the taskbar, it is for performing operations
on that window (like closing it)

Conclusion:
There is absolutely no good reason to add this functionality to the panel.

I hope i made myself clear.

Regards,

Stephan.

Bug#417121: pcmciautils: Data Corruption while using Texas Instrument PCI7420 --CardBus

2007-04-06 Thread Steve Langasek
Hi Subhashis,

Have you ever used this card reader successfully under any other operating
systems? It's certainly possible that this is a kernel bug, since this
class of hardware only recently became supported by Linux, but the error
message in question could also be a hardware fault so we should probably
rule that out too.

Thanks,

Bug#415985: aspell-de: Skips non German

Re: Helge Kreutzmann 2007-03-23 [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Now I was asked to try out aspell and find that it seems to accept
non-German words as well. In ispell there was a word list containing
technical terms which I went through with the maintainer. Is there
  something similar for aspell?

Unfortunately, the aspell-de source is mostly opaque. We were thinking
about building aspell-de from the igerman98 source, but so far no one
got around to as the Makefiles there are somewhat complex (or rather
contain apell rules which were not really up to date last time I
 checked). Patches welcome :)

As stated in my email from march 24th:

Why wishlist? The purpose of a dictionary is to contain valid words.
file is not a valid German word. I am not requesting a new feature!

Severity of a bug does not imply difficulty of fix. Users need to be
aware that they cannot rely (completely) on the German aspell
dictionary as reviews are currently impossible (if I understood you
correctly).

Thus raising severity.

Greetings

Bug#418014: libibverbs1: sysfs not available : libibverbs: Fatal: couldn't read uverbs ABI version.

2007-04-06 Thread Sylvestre Ledru
Package: libibverbs1
Version: 1.0.4-1
Severity: normal

I am working with OpenMPI and I don't have sysfs on my computer.

When I running a very basic MPI program (source attached), I get the
error :
libibverbs: Fatal: couldn't read uverbs ABI version.
--
[0,0,0]: OpenIB on host gabiniere was unable to find any HCAs.
Another transport will be used instead, although this may result in
lower performance.
--

Looking into the source of this lib, I saw that it tries to
check the abi of Infiniband (which I don't have and don't want to use).

Maybe it is more an OpenMPI bug which should not force the user to use
InfiniBand but there is anyway a bug in the lib : it should detect that
I don't have sysfs on my computer and display that.

My test program :

#include mpi.h

#define BUFSIZE 128

int main(int argc, char *argv[])
{
  MPI_Init(argc,argv);

  return 0;
}

# gcc -o testMPI testMpi.c -lmpi ./testMPI
libibverbs: Fatal: couldn't read uverbs ABI version.

 Try 1.217

1.182-1 is latest avail in Debian:

Package imapsync

 * testing (net): IMAP synchronization, copy and migration tool
   1.182-1: all
 * unstable (net): IMAP synchronization, copy and migration tool
   1.182-1: all

patch for Makefile in 1.182-1.diff doesn't apply; that's trivial though, so
now I've installed 1.217.

1st try didn't work: now it hangs taking up 99.8% cpu right after start,
after printing imapd doesn't support MD5 auth.
That's solved adding opt --noauthmd5.
I think it should just check and if imapd doesn't know MD5 auth just don't
use it, unless explicitly told to do so.

Anyway, on 2nd try 1.217 tops at 153MB and completes without errors.
So the OoM problem seems ironed out, thanks :)
+150MB still looks quite a lot to me.

Perhaps imapsync .deb maintainer should resync 'unstable' with upstream.

Bug#418016: Recent security update of libx11-6 (1.0.3-7) made opera segfault

2007-04-06 Thread Peter Baumann
Package: libx11-6
Version: 2:1.0.3-7
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks unrelated software

After upgrading libx11-6 to the security update as in version 1.0.3-7
made opera segfault every time I tried to start it. Downgrading to
version 1.0.3-6 fixes it.

Yes, I know that opera isn't open source, but I marked this bug critical
because if the patch for the security fix causes opera to segfault,
something looks _fishy_ with this patch and could propably cause other
applications to break, too. But feel free to downgrade the severity of
this bug, if you think the problem is inside opera.

I will probably fill a bugreport for opera, too, which includes a link
to this bugreport.

Hi, this could be strange, but this 5-digits bug is still open.
Summary: removing a aliased interface doesn't kill existing
connections.

I can reproduce it, but it doesn't seem to be net-tools fault, as the
interface is correctly removed (ifconfig and ip a l doesn't list it
anymore). I'm not even sure if this is a bug or not, but I think it's
up to kernel maintainers to decide on that.

readdir() gives back all the directory entries, including . and

game-back_no 2 check. Unfortunately readdir() doesn't give back
. and .. as the first 2 entries on my system:

So the game tries to open .., which doesn't work, causing
moon-lander to die.

I've attached a patch fixing this by checking in the while loop if
the dirent return by readdir() corresponds to a directory. If so
it's ignored. The two if's have been changed too, so all available
images are cycled.

Cheers,
Christian Aichinger

Oh, it's worse than that. It's nothing to do with the resizing: the
same happens when the window is the original size. The file I am
working with is about an hour long, if that makes a difference.

Seeing how this bug was for all intents and purposes introduced by an NMU,
and it's a bug we ought to have fixed for etch, I've prepared a 0-day NMU to

On its way up to incoming now, hopefully in time for etch.

Bug#418016: Recent security update of libx11-6 (1.0.3-7) made opera segfault

thank you

Yes, it has already been reported on the Debian/Gentoo/Opera/Xorg BTS. But I
don't think anybody posted an interesting backtrace yet, so it's kind of
hard to know what's going on.

Please run banshee from a terminal and paste the complete output here

Bug#260642: Don't use latex -src as default

Hello,

1.) latex -src does nasty things with the spacing and there can also be
sensitive information in the DVI file.
So we won't make latex -src as default.

2.) The inverse search and forward dvi stuff is better documented now.

Bug#358863: syntax files

2007-04-06 Thread Thomas Braun
Hello,

we discussed the problem of the syntax files a while ago, with Fathi Boudra,
and concluded that we as kile devs ensure that kde/trunk, kde/branch/3.5,
kile/trunk and kile/branch/1.9 always have the same version of latex.xml.

So any update of kdelibs on your side should include the newest latex.xml from
the kde svn.

But in the last update of kdelibs-data, version: 4:3.5.5a.dfsg.1-8 (Debian
sid) is latex.xml v1.23 included and not the newest version of the kde 3.5
branch (which is v1.25 and was committed 5 weeks) ago.

So how can we ensure in the future that users get the newest syntax files?

Bug#418023: Interfaces managed by NetworkManager have MTU 576

2007-04-06 Thread Michel Dänzer
Package: network-manager
Version: 0.6.4-7
Severity: important

I noticed that all interfaces managed by NetworkManager seem to
have an MTU of 576 bytes (the minimum). This seems to have a negative
effect on download speed, or certainly not a positive one. As
nm_system_get_mtu() in src/backends/NetworkManagerDebian.c returns 0,
NetworkManager doesn't seem to set the MTU explicitly though, so I'm not
sure where the default is coming from. I verified that hacking the above
function to return 1500 results in interfaces managed by NetworkManager
having an MTU of 1500, with a line like

Apr 6 12:18:52 thor NetworkManager: information^ISetting MTU of
interface 'sungem' to 1500

in syslog.

Bug#418025: doxygen: New upstream version available (1.5.2)

2007-04-06 Thread Roger Leigh
Package: doxygen
Version: 1.5.1-1
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

A new upstream release of doxygen, 1.5.2, was made on the 3rd of April.
Please could you package and upload this after etch is released?

This release has a number of important changes, including support for
UTF-8. 1.5.1 and below assume on Unix that the source input and HTML
output is always Latin-1.

Many thanks,
Roger

Bug#417741: german translation

2007-04-06 Thread Karl Richter-Trummer

Package: firestarter
Version: 1.0.3-1.3

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
got the same problem!

actually with Ereignisse - aktualisieren means events - reload.

this is VERY reproducable for me, it happens every time. the firewall
backend still seems working (etc/init.d/firestarter status says its
running) Also, i only want to press reload, because i dont have any events
listed there, other users seem to have them by default? So whats wrong?

i would like to help with further information, if needed

Bug#418033: gramps: Gramps wants python 2.5, Etch has 2.4

2007-04-06 Thread Stine Kristiansen
Package: gramps
Version: 2.2.3-1
Severity: important

When using Gramps and saving files it complains that I use an old
version of python. Etch has 2.4, Gramps wants 2.5. I tried to install
2.5 too but that did not help. I have experienced busy loops with this
version of gramps on Etch, but failed to find a log to check.

Perhaps Gramps should be replaced by an older version working fine on
python 2.4?

Bug#417614: does not resume synchronisation of new directories

I think your request can be partially solve this way:
 * propose a solution for bug 417620 (limit the number of simultaneous file
 transfer)
 * write in README.Debian that sync cannot be resumed and that for slow link
it is better to use less simultaneous file transfer

What do you think about ?

Yes, I agree.

Bug#418034: console-data: Greek 8x8 font (iso07.f08.psf) does not contain Greek characters!

2007-04-06 Thread stamit

Package: console-data
Version: 2:1.01-7
Severity: normal
Tags: patch l10n

Hello there,

I am emailing from Greece. The fonts `iso07.f16', `iso07.f14' and
`iso07.f08' have (as expected) exactly the same character table
(encoding). I tested `iso07.f16' and `iso07.f14' and they display
correctly. However, `iso07.f08' is completely wrong. The characters
in there are not Greek, that's for sure! I drew it with `cfe' and I
send it to you as an attachment.

I hear somebody has done this in the past but I couldn't find any
fonts (or maybe I didn't search well enough). Anyway, here it is. It
may not be the best possible font, but it is correct. I tried to
mimic the style of the Latin characters in the font.

I am using Debian version 3.1 . I was using version
`2002.12.04dbs-49' of the console-data package but I downloaded the
latest version (2:1.01-7) from the unstable release and the font is
still wrong!

Stamatis Mitrofanis

Bug#417620: limit on simultaneous transfers

2007-04-06 Thread martin f krafft
also sprach [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] [2007.04.05.1126 +0200]:
I answer your private mail on the BTS (to keep track of things).

Sorry about that.

The 3500/350 kbps explains me why it takes so long (hours compared
to 15 min in my case).

Right. Although it's not really a slow link.

However, i am a bit suprised that transfering several files at
once is longer than transfering only one. I was thinking that you
get a better time transfering more file on a LAN and that it makes
no difference transfering on a slow link...

Do you have any idea ?

In general I would tend to agree. However, this only applies if
unison used separate SSH connections for each transfer. This does
not appear to be the case, so it transfers everything in a single
SSH tunnel, and thus it cannot go any faster, really.

I am not talking about syncing per se. I am talking about the
 first time directories are transferred.

You alway sync with unison... It is a file synchroniser ;-) Even
the first time it is syncing.

Just making sure you know what I mean.

Anyway, i hope that i have understand your problem. Here is the
solution i will propose to upstream: * implement a flag/option
max-simultaneous-file-transfer which will limit the number of file
transfered in parallel * document that this option help to speed
up transfer on slow link * document that this option can reduce
the risk of an interruption/resume by processing a more
step-by-step transfer, since after having finished to transfer
a unit you won't loose it after resuming.

 Do you agree ?

Yes, sounds great.

Thanks!

thanks

In my case, just adding -f is not sufficient to make s2ram work
properly. The attached patch adds support for -s and -p.

Thanks, I've made some small changes and applied the patch upstream.
It will thus be part of 1.95-1, which I will release soon.

But, NFU should *not* be used for cases like this. Instead, if the
package is unsupported on s390, the source package should fail to build
it (and afterwards, NFU could be used to prevent wasting buildd power on
it, but *not before*). If not, it shouldn't be in NFU either, and simply
 built for s390.

fully agreed - just that for the current release state, that was still
the best option. Thanks for the support.

Bug#418038: php4, php5: Imprecision in package description

2007-04-06 Thread Rafael Laboissiere
Package: php4, php5
Severity: minor

Both php4 and php5 packages have this sentence in their descriptions:

This package is a meta-package that, when installed, guarantees that you
have at least one of the four server-side versions of the PHP{4,5}
interpreter installed.

However, they depend alternatively on only three server-side packages,
namely libapache2-mod-php{4,5}, libapache-mod-php{4,5}, or php{4,5}-cgi.
Which is the fourth one?

That's two different things, don't you think?

If I click on a link, I use that link as it is meant to be, to get
further information from that remote server and tell that server to give
this information to me.

If I move my mouse over a page I retrieved from the remote server I do
not expect this to send anything to the remote server while doing so.

I agree with you that in most occasions there is no intent to abuse
this. But that's the same with all other techniques used on the net,

I am aware that the impact is not as problematic as other leaks, that's
why I didn't set severity to a higher level. I am also aware that some

could be useful to Opera if someone wants to pass this along. This is with
opera_9.10-20061214.6-shared-qt_en_i386.deb for Debian testing.

FWIW, the problematic invocation has an 'image_bytes_per_line' value of '3'
and a 'width' value of '1', but the bits-per-pixel for the display is 32
(i.e., 4 bytes), so the check fails. I guess Opera is wrongly assuming that
a bitdepth of 24 gives a bpp of 24, not 32?

Bug#418039: coreutils: ls -v sorts path segments incorrectly

2007-04-06 Thread Oswald Buddenhagen
Package: coreutils
Version: 5.97-5.3
Severity: normal

suppose the commands:

cd /usr/src
ls -v1 linux-2.6.*/.config

one'd expect the files to be sorted by the version in the directory
name:

linux-2.6.20/.config
linux-2.6.20.4/.config
linux-2.6.20.5/.config

but the actual output is:

linux-2.6.20.4/.config
linux-2.6.20.5/.config
linux-2.6.20/.config

i *think* this is a regression, unless it worked for me before only due
to chance.

Bug#417897: that patch breaks compilation with g++-4.0

2007-04-06 Thread Chris Moore

After applying your patch, the build fails:

/usr/local/include/ETL/_stringf.h:34:18: error: csdlib: No such file
or directory

I'm using g++ 4.0:

$ apt-cache policy show g++-4.0
g++-4.0:
 Installed: 4.0.3-1ubuntu5
$

and can't find csdlib anywhere in the ubuntu (dapper) repositories:

$ apt-file search csdlib

Is there some preprocessor macro I should test for before including csdlib?

Chris.

Bug#418040: Updated Sword module for WEB available

Dear Daniel,

I notice that the Sword website shows that the World English Bible

Could you possibly update the Debian package at some point in the

backported quite easily (or placed in Volatile, if appropriate).

Thanks in advance!

Comments/Problems:

0. The zeroth problem was booting. Somewhere in the help where you find it
right away it says
to use noacpi if the system hangs. I tried that and it didn't work. In another
spot more buried
(I think in the special parameter section) it says use acpi=off. Well, only the
acpi=off worked.

1. The first problem to crop up was with the language and timezone. I live in
Germany, but am a native
english speaker and wish to install in English. As soon as you've selected the
English language, you
can only choose timezones from the USA and it's territories. Luckily I was
still *allowed* to choose
a german keyboard! Please try thinking less for the user and allow hir to
choose whichever timezone s/he
desires...I'm sure most people know which timezone they live in!

2. The second problem wasn't too much of a problem, just irritating: when
detecting disks, the cd, and
the network card, it *kept* asking me whether I wanted to install the floppy
module. I would deselect it and
and continue, and in the next step it would again ask me about the floppy
module. Other than that, the
detection of cd and network card worked ok.

3. The third problem was with partitioning the harddrive. You can tell it that
you want to use a partition
as an encrypted partition, but afterwards it doesn't do anything with it and
you can't tell it where you want
it mounted. I don't see what this option really does, since you have to
luksFormat it, etc. by hand afterwards
anyway. It would be nice if the installer would support encrypted partitions
where you could select options and
a mount point and have the installer set everything up. Especially encrypted
swap is easy, it just needs an entry
in /etc/crypttab and an appropriate entry in /etc/fstab, so encrypted swap
should be an option too!

4. The fourth and worst problem came when I tried to reboot my new
system...didn't work at all,
no grub screen, nothin. Had no idea why.
Tried using the install cd as rescue cd, but it wasn't much of a rescue, it
just wanted to re-install.
I re-installed twice and fiddled with the bios. Luckily, at some point I
accidentally booted with my sata1
hd disconnected and it started grub (!) but couldn't find a bootable image.
Then I understood: grub had been installing itself
to /dev/hdb, even though I hadn't installed any of the system there (hdb was my
old hd from my old system
which I had attached to transfer data from). There was never any question in
the install about where grub
should install itself other than to the master boot record but didn't mention
which drive, and it didn't
occur to me that it would install itself preferentially to hdb instead of to
sata1 when I wasn't installing the
system there and had configured no mount points from hdb! Big Bummer and big
waste of time! The other errors
were no big deal, but this really caused me some grief!

Bug#418044: cupssys: cups constantly updates the printcap file, preventing laptop_mode to spin down the disk

2007-04-06 Thread Christian Thaeter
Package: cupssys
Severity: important

Since the last update on my laptop, cupsys keeps the disk spinning.
I tracked this down and identified that it writes its printcap file
regulary (and likely with a fsync()/fdatasync(), else it won't keep
the disk spinning). In my configuration cups logs to syslog, I did
not test if the logging would cause the same.

A workaround is to disable printcap generation in cups. But this is
certainly not a good solution.

The current tar manpage doesn't document --strip. It's really handy in
some cases and I had to look a while before I found it. Maybe a short
entry in the manpage would be useful?

Thanks for the suggestion. The man page is created and maintained by
Debian, so it gets out of sync and has never been really complete. If
you'd like to suggest some text, and/or provide me a patch to the man
page source, that would get this done more quickly... ;-)

I've supplied a small patch with a short explanation of the feature. I
hope it's all properly formatted.

Hi,

This is a followup for Debian bug http://bugs.debian.org/354742.

On Thu, Mar 30, 2006, Holger Duerer wrote:

Not including translations that are the same as the original name

 Thanks for your interesting comment!

I've opened an upstream bug against intltool-merge which is used to
 generate Locations.xml from po-locations/*.po. I tried stripping
spaces as you suggested, but this only saved some 16% at the expense of
making the file unreadable in my text editor. :-)

gzipping the file made for a 86% compression, which is way more
interesting. (Removing blanks before gzipping only made a 0.7%
 compression difference).

If you have some XSL powers and removing translated strings identical
to the untranslated template truly compresses the file, I'm interested
in hooking this in the build process. I expect gzipping will still
give better results, so I would take a patch to implement gzipping as
 well. :)

Bug#413041: bug reproduces in standalone jasper

Hi Sam and Larry,

Sam Hocevar wrote:

It works for me on both broken2.jp2 and broken4.jp2.

Your patch works, with all broken*.jp2 files. Here is a slightly
better one that checks the numstepsizes value a bit before and returns
an error instead of using assert().

Thanks for all your work on this! Your last patch looks good, and I
could upload it right away.

So, RMs, is there anything special I should care about when uploading
this lib (besides the usual QA-checks) at this stage of release? I would
just upload to unstable and ask you to let it into etch.

Thanks,

Roland

it looks like that during upgrade of netbase the laptop
lost its ip address but couldn't get a new one, so my ssh session
lost connection, the problem was that i couldn't log in again,
as ssh refused the connection at that state. This happened
at the question for /etc/services.
Fortunately I also could log in on the console.

Some minor issues:

while removing fontconfig:
fc-cache: error while loading shared libraries: libfontconfig.so.1: cannot open
shared object file: No such file or directory

while setting up udev:
sed: can't read /etc/udev/rules.d/z25_persistent-net.rules: No such file or
directory

As far as i can see all the services are working again, so I'm happy :)

Good work!

  Peter

Bug#418046: ImportError: No module named pkg_resources

2007-04-06 Thread Mathieu Malaterre
Package: python-setuptools
Version: 0.6a9-0bpo1
Severity: normal

I was able to install python-setuptools, but I believe this is not
possible on a debian stable system.

$ sudo apt-get install python-setuptools
$ easy_install
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File /usr/bin/easy_install, line 4, in ?
import pkg_resources
ImportError: No module named pkg_resources

I cannot find pkg_resources in stable. I can find it in unstable though:
usr/share/pycentral/python-setuptools/site-packages/pkg_resources.py
http://packages.debian.org/cgi-bin/search_contents.pl?version=unstablearch=i386case=insensitiveword=pkg_resourcessearchmode=searchword

IMHO python-setuptools should depend on a newer python version is my
guess...

Bug#416181: libogre5c2a: the version in Debian is too outdated.

Federico Di Gregorio [EMAIL PROTECTED] (25/03/2007):
If you want to help try producing real packages (not checkinstall
ones) for the needed dependencies. I've some experimental packages
ready but the quality is low. Anyway, I am working on that.

Hi Federico,

I did some packaging work for 1.2.4 but wasn't able to prepare a
satisfying enough version for an upload on time for etch. I'd be glad to
help you with the packaging of the needed libraries -- I'm currently
updating my modifications to match 1.4.0.

I guess that we could maintain ogre together since you look like still
interested in its packaging. What's your opinion?

Cheers,
