Bug#437200: Installation report
Christian Perrier wrote: All the installation from Debian/PowerPC_Etch net-inst seemed to work fine over my ethernet connection to cable modem. I installed to separate HDD for Etch only. The system seems to *immediately* after boot up or only when it tries to load the X interface? A couple of pages of text rolls by that seems to be the boot script and that completes. Then what seems like what should be a graphic interface come up. But it is black. Maybe black isn't as right as no image. The lcd lamp is on. The X interface would be the GUI right? I can tell the computer doesn't shut down. It sounds like the drive(s) are still working- not much activity though. Like it's waiting for input from me. You might want to send the machine's xorg.conf and /var/log/Xorg.0.log to this bug so that X maintainers can help you. Bug#419100: workrave: Workaround
On 09/08/07 at 13:26 +0200, Bilderbeek, Manuel wrote: Hi, As a work-around in the meantime, how about hiding all of the timers and only displaying the icon in the notification area? That's how I use it and it works just fine for me. I'm curious to see if that works for you as well. Well, I'm sure it will, becaue the program works fine, but the timers are just not updated. So, hiding the timers will just do that: hide the timers, and I won't notice they are not getting updated. I just like the timers on screen. The upstream bug for this has been fixed. See http://issues.workrave.org/cgi-bin/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=628 . Also, there's a workaround: right-click on the icon, then choose Quit, then right-click again, and choose Open. -- | Lucas Nussbaum | [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.lucas-nussbaum.net/ | | jabber: [EMAIL PROTECTED] GPG: 1024D/023B3F4F | -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#436831: cdd-dev: Listing all available packages messes up debian/control

I'm working on your further report about '-a' and '-m' problems - I guess the output regarding these additional option was brocken from the beginning because I never used them myself and just took over from former Debian-Edu gen-control. Package: gtablix Version: 0.9.13-1-1 After installing all the recommended packages for gtablix, it still pop up a dialog box with this content when I start it: Error: Couldn't start file; Some external programs couldn't be started. Check that they are installed and in the path, or some functions will not work. The 'file' program is in PATH, so I suspect the test for it in gtablix is broken. I noticed no problem with gtablix because of the missing file, but then again, I have no idea how it would affect gtablix, and thus not what to look for. -- System Information: Debian Release: 4.0 APT prefers stable APT policy: (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.18-4-686 Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages gtablix depends on: ii file 4.17-5etch2 Determines file type using magic ii libglib-perl 1:1.140-1 Perl interface to the GLib and GOb ii libgtk2-gladexml-perl1.006-1 Perl interface to use user interfa ii libgtk2-perl 1:1.140-1 Perl interface to the 2.x series o ii liblocale-gettext-perl 1.05-1 Using libc functions for internati ii libxml-libxml-common-perl0.13-5 Perl module for common routines ii libxml-libxml-perl 1.59-2 Perl module for using the GNOME li ii libxml-namespacesupport-perl 1.09-3 Perl module for supporting simple ii libxml-sax-perl 0.12-5 Perl module for using and building ii perl 5.8.8-7 Larry Wall's Practical Extraction Versions of packages gtablix recommends: ii tablix2 0.3.3-1Kernel for solving general timetab -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#437258: gtablix: Fail silently when pvmd is not running
Package: gtablix Version: 0.9.13-1-1 Severity: normal I just tested gtablix, and ran into an unexpected problem. After filling in classes, teachers, rooms, etc, I got to the point where the schedule calculation should start. I tried to start the process, but tablix2 died immediately. There was no information in the GUI about what went wrong. Trying to figure out what went on, I checked the output on stdout, and discovered lines like this: libpvm [pid13029] /tmp/pvmd.10001: No such file or directory This made me suspect there was a need to have the pvmd program running. Starting it manually on the side got the scheduling going, and I was able to get a time table for the test data. I suggest detecting this problem and report it in the GUI. If possible, it would be great if gtablix would start pvmd if needed, to avoid confusing the user with what I would consider an implementation detail. :) -- System Information: Debian Release: 4.0 APT prefers stable APT policy: (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.18-4-686 Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages gtablix depends on: ii file 4.17-5etch2 Determines file type using magic ii libglib-perl 1:1.140-1 Perl interface to the GLib and GOb ii libgtk2-gladexml-perl1.006-1 Perl interface to use user interfa ii libgtk2-perl 1:1.140-1 Perl interface to the 2.x series o ii liblocale-gettext-perl 1.05-1 Using libc functions for internati ii libxml-libxml-common-perl0.13-5 Perl module for common routines ii libxml-libxml-perl 1.59-2 Perl module for using the GNOME li ii libxml-namespacesupport-perl 1.09-3 Perl module for supporting simple ii libxml-sax-perl 0.12-5 Perl module for using and building ii perl 5.8.8-7 Larry Wall's Practical Extraction Versions of packages gtablix recommends: ii tablix2 0.3.3-1Kernel for solving general timetab -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#437263: Automatically pick appropriate quality setting
Package: dir2ogg Version: 0.11~alpha2-1 Severity: wishlist Hi, it would be cool if dir2ogg could automatically pick an appropriate quality setting instead of using -q3 as default. In an own (dir2mp3) script I've written some time ago, I used bitrate=$( perl -ne 'if (m/ ([0-9]+)\.[0-9]+ kbit/) { print $1; };' mplayer.out ) to find the files bitrate (fallback could be filesize / playtime) and then used that as ABR (average bit rate) parameter for lame. I'd actually like to see MP3 output support as an option in dir2ogg as well (given that the user has installed an encoder, which is optional) Thanks for all your work here! That is intentional, Romain Francoise and us decided to keep emacs-snapshot as free of extra stuff (including dictionaries-common) as possible, so I excluded it from that file. We however support emacs22, which currently uses 'old' dictionaries-common stuff, patched for better integration with Debian default selection and other things. Anyway, I tried, but this didn't change anything. So, I now use emacs-snapshot. Hi, Vincent Note that some changes are interacting here, ispell.el from emacs-snapshot and emacs22 changed to use aspell as default, while all other flavours and dict-common behave traditionally and use ispell if both are installed. You would have get the same result by setting `ispell-program-name' to aspell in your .emacs file, (setq ispell-program-name aspell) so aspell is used from all emacs flavours. I prefer to keep the old behavior to avoid confusion and different behaviors between emacs and xemacs, although aspell is now clearly preferrable. Bug#437267: Buggy handling of dynamics in MIDI output
Package: lilypond Version: 2.8.7-3.1 Severity: normal Hi, The lilypond documentation states the following: A crescendo mark is started with `\' and terminated with `\!' or an absolute dynamic. A decrescendo is started with `\' and is also terminated with `\!' or an absolute dynamic. Yet when we write the following: \score { \new Staff { \relative c' { c8\ d e f g a b c\f c,1\p c8\ d e f g a b\! c\f } } \layout{} \midi{} } Then the two octave renderings look almost the same in the PS/PDF output (safe for a slight difference in alignment); this is expected. However, the MIDI output is completely different. The first bar is inaudible (except for the final note); the final bar is audible, but the crescendo isn't played. Swapping both bars around mutes both the first and final bar (except, again, for their final C). If we change the first bar to c8\p\ d e f g a b\! c\f Then the crescendo is almost rendered correctly: there is now a crescendo effect, but the first C is louder than the D, and the D is so quiet as to be inaudible again. Clearly something is amiss in crescendo/decrescendo handling. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: powerpc (ppc) Kernel: Linux 2.6.22-1-powerpc Locale: LANG=nl_BE.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=nl_BE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages lilypond depends on: ii guile-1.8 1.8.1+1-5The GNU extension language and Sch ii guile-1.8-libs 1.8.1+1-5Main Guile libraries ii libc6 2.6.1-1 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libfontconfig1 2.4.2-1.2generic font configuration library ii libfreetype62.3.5-1 FreeType 2 font engine, shared lib ii libgcc1 1:4.2.1-2GCC support library ii libglib2.0-02.12.13-1The GLib library of C routines ii libgmp3c2 2:4.2.1+dfsg-5 Multiprecision arithmetic library ii libltdl31.5.24-1 A system independent dlopen wrappe ii libpango1.0-0 1.16.5-1 Layout and rendering of internatio ii libstdc++6 4.2.1-2 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii lilypond-data 2.8.7-3.1LilyPond music typesetter (data fi ii python 2.4.4-6 An interactive high-level object-o ii zlib1g 1:1.2.3.3.dfsg-5 compression library - runtime Versions of packages lilypond recommends: ii lilypond-doc 2.8.7-3.1 LilyPond Documentation in HTML, PS -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. I'll close this bug, but will modify alsaconf for future releases to use ist only linux = 2,4. No, backports we don't support ;) Please don't close this bug without fixing it. Bug#420641: asterisk-oh323 fixed with asterisk 1.4.4
Hi Michael, I've taken a CVS HEAD snapshot from the sourceforge CVS as you proposed. To clean up the compilation output I've added some fixes. Please have a look at these patches[1] and check whether you can import them back upstream. They do address the -O2 requirement of Debian and remove the cluttering with version.h not finding the version of PWLib and OpenH323. I daresay that I'm not happy with the latter patch, as the way the versions are detected feels wrong anyway, that's what configure is for or eventually some other mechanism, but not run it with each source file being compiled. Same goes for the ccflags of OpenH323. Is there any chance we can see a 0.7.4 with that code as public release soon? Thanks! -- Best regards, Kilian [1]: asterisk-driver_Makefile.dpatch - fixes -O2 http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/pkg-voip/asterisk-oh323/trunk/debian/patches/asterisk-driver_Makefile.dpatch?op=filerev=0sc=0 chan_oh323.dpatch - fixes missing headers problem http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/pkg-voip/asterisk-oh323/trunk/debian/patches/chan_oh323.dpatch?op=filerev=0sc=0 Makefile.dpatch - also fix -O2 http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/pkg-voip/asterisk-oh323/trunk/debian/patches/Makefile.dpatch?op=filerev=0sc=0 wrapper_Makefile - just run OPENH323FLAGS _once!_. - add -fPIC for the wrapper library. - leaves the very ugly .pwlib_version and .openh323_version constucts as TODO http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/pkg-voip/asterisk-oh323/trunk/debian/patches/wrapper_Makefile.dpatch?op=filerev=0sc=0 signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#431862: nss-updatedb: db updates are not atomic

I can give you access to a read only sanitized view of the database, if that would be helpful. A patch would be great. Maybe the libnss-db maintainer can should comment on this? Yes, that would probably also be helpful. The problem is actually as suspected. libnss-db doesn't use the database environment so it doesn't actually know that the database is currently being truncated/updated which makes the user/group lookups fail. Actually using the dbenv like rc = dbp-dbenv-open(dbp-dbenv, DB_DIR, DB_CREATE|DB_INIT_LOG|DB_INIT_LOCK|DB_INIT_MPOOL| DB_INIT_TXN, 0644); ... works rather well and solves this problem but has one major drawback: we can't specify the DB_RECOVER flag here since this would conflict with the DB_RECOVER flag of nss_updatedb. This could leave us with an inconsistent database in case an applications aborts leaving an unrecovered database for all other apps. Any ideas on howto fix this? The kernel misscalculates the necessary space. It is not possible to fix this from userspace as it doesn't return anything in this case.
