So, indeed, the bug belong to the X server, not really to the
installer.

I'm not an X expert, especially on powerpc. So, I reassign this to
xserver-xorg.

You might want to send the machine's xorg.conf and /var/log/Xorg.0.log
to this bug so that X maintainers can help you. You can get them by :

- when the screen is black, hit Ctrl-Alt-F1 and login at the console
- if that doesn't work, boot as single user, then temporarily remove
the /etc/rc2.d/S??gdm link so that X doesn't try to start at bootup.

Very good Christian, I appreciate it. I have studied through posts

The ATI X800 XT. I can't find my original card that was in this Mac to

Well, I'm sure it will, becaue the program works fine, but the timers
are just not updated. So, hiding the timers will just do that: hide the
timers, and I won't notice they are not getting updated. I just like the
 timers on screen.

The upstream bug for this has been fixed. See
http://issues.workrave.org/cgi-bin/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=628 . Also,
there's a workaround: right-click on the icon, then choose Quit, then
right-click again, and choose Open.

Síťové blokové zařízení může sloužit několika účelům. Jedním z těch

 Hello Elimar,
I guess one could consider this to be a flash player issue. I
understand Your position - everything works except flash - hence it's
a flash problem. The thing is I don't think that Adobe gives a shit

Bug#437227: Wine access violation problems

2007-08-11 Thread Naresh Venkateshappa
Package: wine
Architecture: amd64
Version: 0.9.37-1

I have a reiserfs partition that belongs to gentoo which holds my BroodWar.iso
I recently installed debian (unstable) and manually did (as root)

step 1: `mount /dev/hda9 /media/hda9`
step 2: `mount
/media/hda9/home/nareshov/Desktop/Downloads/Starcraft/BroodWar.iso
/media/winecd`

and as user=nareshov

step 3: `wine
/media/hda9/home/nareshov/Desktop/Downloads/Starcraft/starcraft.exe`

All that gave me no problems.

Now, I added an fstab entry

 #/dev/hda9 /media/hda9 reiserfs notail,noatime,user,auto 0 0

and this is where the problem started I think.
step 2: was performed as root and step 3: as user=nareshov and ended
up getting this:

Bug#437226: hfsutils: Please create a libhfs binary package

2007-08-11 Thread Martín Ferrari
Package: hfsutils
Version: 3.2.6-11
Severity: wishlist

This program includes a small and simple library for accessing HFS
programatically. It would be useful to be able to use it as a shared
library, or at least as a static .a.

Thanks for the report.
What OS (and version) is the NFS server running?
What is the type of file system on the NFS server?

As you know, there were changes last year in how upstream GNU rm works
in certain NFS/HFS scenarios. E.g., here's a NEWS entry from
coreutils-6.4 (2006-10-22):

rm works around a bug in Darwin 7.9.0 (MacOS X 10.3.9) that would
sometimes keep it from removing all entries in a directory on an HFS+
or NFS-mounted partition.

BTW, I tried to install hpodder_1.0.0 on Etch and it did something
with podcast database and only then reported the unsatisfied

need a newer hpodder to read this database.)

So now have the broken system. What I can do to fix this? Upgrading to

This is fixed in current CVS. Please note that the syntax in the
task files allowes packageA | packageB which is listed this
way in one line.

There is a debug line sent to stdout that probably should go to
stderr:

Fixed in CVS.

I'm working on your further report about '-a' and '-m' problems -
I guess the output regarding these additional option was brocken
from the beginning because I never used them myself and just took
over from former Debian-Edu gen-control. So either it was broken
there as well or I confused something. I hope to get this fixed
until tonight.

Kind regards

I don't understand why, but I can't use 'babel' = 'lithuanian'. In
such case the debiandoc2latexpdf fails.

utf8x is an extended utf8 encoding. See:

Of course, I need to check CJK things too. Their existing values are
 confusing

I propose to try: 'inputenc' = 'CJKutf8'

Richard Thrippleton wrote:

No need to send the whole output again. Just save /var/log/Xorg.0.log
before and after suspend and send the difference.

There are several problems related to suspend with the intel driver.
Could you try a recent upstream git snapshot, we've been said that it is
more stable. If you need help to built it, see Section #5 in
http://wiki.debian.org/XStrikeForce/ReleaseNotes

Also, since there are many components involved in suspend/resume,
upgrading to latest xserver-xorg-core 2:1.3.0.0.dfsg-12 and
libgl1-mesa-dri 7.0.1 or so in unstable could not hurt.

I see an 2.6.20.3 Ubuntu kernel in your log, is there a reason why
you're not using Debian 2.6.21 in testing or 2.6.22 in unstable? Kernel
is also involved a lot in suspend...

Bug#259888: discover: Please discover devices on the ISA bus (e.g., the SB awe 32)

2007-08-11 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen

Patches to support ISA is welcome. As the ISA bus is getting fewer
and fewer users, implementing support for ISA is not a priority of me,
and I seem to be the most active discover developer these days.

Just to let it be known that this is unlikely to be fixed.

Happy hacking,

Laptop's synaptics touchpad stops working randomly.

I think you can do so in the preferences, but in the end you have to

Very good Christian, I appreciate it. I have studied through posts

compile the data as you suggested and go from there. It's late for me
I'm heading for bed. Have a good night

Please just run
/usr/share/bug/xserver-xorg/script 31
(from a VT console after X failed to try) and send us the whole output.
It will gather all we need.

I assume the installer used ati as a video driver in your
/etc/X11/xorg.conf. Old ati driver (such as 6.6.3) had a bug in their

it helps.

Bug#437256: kdesktop_lock won't unlock session with empty password

2007-08-11 Thread Shai Berger
Package: kdesktop
Version: 4:3.5.7-2+b1
Severity: normal

I have a user defined with an empty password, to make a kid's life easier.
The kid sometimes, inadvertently, locks the screen. When this happens,
trying to unlock the screeen by entering the correct (empty) password fails,
and I have no choice but to switch to another screen to kill kdesktop_lock.

What I expect:
* a password that works for gdm and su should work for kdesktop_lock, even
  if it is empty.

What I see:
* kdesktop_lock rejects an empty password

Bug#437257: gtablix: Fail to find the 'file' program?

Package: gtablix

pop up a dialog box with this content when I start it:

The 'file' program is in PATH, so I suspect the test for it in gtablix
is broken. I noticed no problem with gtablix because of the missing
file, but then again, I have no idea how it would affect gtablix, and
thus not what to look for.

Bug#437258: gtablix: Fail silently when pvmd is not running

2007-08-11 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen

Package: gtablix
Version: 0.9.13-1-1
Severity: normal

I just tested gtablix, and ran into an unexpected problem. After
filling in classes, teachers, rooms, etc, I got to the point where the
schedule calculation should start. I tried to start the process, but
tablix2 died immediately. There was no information in the GUI about
what went wrong. Trying to figure out what went on, I checked the
output on stdout, and discovered lines like this:

libpvm [pid13029] /tmp/pvmd.10001: No such file or directory

This made me suspect there was a need to have the pvmd program
running. Starting it manually on the side got the scheduling going,
and I was able to get a time table for the test data.

I suggest detecting this problem and report it in the GUI. If
possible, it would be great if gtablix would start pvmd if needed, to
avoid confusing the user with what I would consider an implementation
detail. :)

Bug#437260: linux-image-2.6.22-1-powerpc: Oops with the sata_sil

2007-08-11 Thread Romain Chantereau
Package: linux-image-2.6.22-1-powerpc
Version: 2.6.22-3
Severity: important

Hi !

I have a external SATA hard drive and a PCMCIA sata controller.
When I plug the PCMCIA card the controller is recognized as sata_sil.
When I plug the hard drive on the card, I have to play : plug in the first port,
wait, then plug in the second one, wait, and plug back in the first, and so on
until the hard drive is recognized.
After that, I can access the data but, when I order a heavy operation (i.e.
updatedb, find ./, xfs_check, etc.), I recieve quickly a Oops in response and
the hard drive is not responding anymore.

The complete related kern.log is joined.

Thanks you very much,
Romain.

Should this be libpri1.2 which does have version 1.4 in the repo?

libpri1.0 is currently stuck in NEW:

Bug#437263: Automatically pick appropriate quality setting

2007-08-11 Thread Erich Schubert
Package: dir2ogg
Version: 0.11~alpha2-1
Severity: wishlist

Hi,
it would be cool if dir2ogg could automatically pick an appropriate quality
setting instead of using -q3 as default.
In an own (dir2mp3) script I've written some time ago, I used
bitrate=$( perl -ne 'if (m/ ([0-9]+)\.[0-9]+ kbit/) { print $1; };'
mplayer.out )
to find the files bitrate (fallback could be filesize / playtime) and then used
that as
ABR (average bit rate) parameter for lame.

I'd actually like to see MP3 output support as an option in dir2ogg as well
(given that the user has installed an encoder, which is optional)

Thanks for all your work here!

P.S. using the 0.11~alpha2 version, dir2ogg just failed to save the tags for me
on all files. :-(

bttv.h is a 'private' header, and not included in the kernel headers

be done.

Bug#437265: grub: Grub loading very slow when using uswsusp

Package: grub
Version: 0.97-29

Hello,

I'm using uswsusp (with the s2disk utility) to make hibernate my
computer.
With debian kernels 2.6.18, when I switch on my computer after an
hibernation, Grub is very very slow to load.
Please wait while grub is loading is displayed for about 20~30
seconds, then the menu appears, I boot the kernel, and then again it
takes about 20 seconds to load the kernel.
During all this process, the disk activity led reamains lit on.
When I make a normal shutdown, there is no slowness problem.

I'm using ReiserFS partitions, here is the fdisk output :

laptop:/home/punky# fdisk -l /dev/hda

Disk /dev/hda: 30.0 GB, 3660480 bytes

Do you have an idea ?

That is intentional, Romain Francoise and us decided to keep

Anyway, I tried, but this didn't change anything. So, I now use
 emacs-snapshot.

Hi, Vincent

Note that some changes are interacting here,

ispell.el from emacs-snapshot and emacs22 changed to use aspell as
default, while all other flavours and dict-common behave traditionally and
use ispell if both are installed.

You would have get the same result by setting `ispell-program-name' to
aspell in your .emacs file,

(setq ispell-program-name aspell)

so aspell is used from all emacs flavours. I prefer to keep the old
behavior to avoid confusion and different behaviors between emacs and
xemacs, although aspell is now clearly preferrable.

Bug#437267: Buggy handling of dynamics in MIDI output

2007-08-11 Thread Wouter Verhelst
Package: lilypond
Version: 2.8.7-3.1
Severity: normal

Hi,

The lilypond documentation states the following:

A crescendo mark is started with `\' and terminated with `\!' or an
absolute dynamic. A decrescendo is started with `\' and is also
terminated with `\!' or an absolute dynamic.

Yet when we write the following:

\score {
\new Staff {
\relative c' {
c8\ d e f g a b c\f
c,1\p
c8\ d e f g a b\! c\f
}
}
\layout{}
\midi{}
}

Then the two octave renderings look almost the same in the PS/PDF output
(safe for a slight difference in alignment); this is expected.

However, the MIDI output is completely different. The first bar is
inaudible (except for the final note); the final bar is audible, but
the crescendo isn't played.

Swapping both bars around mutes both the first and final bar (except,
again, for their final C).

If we change the first bar to

c8\p\ d e f g a b\! c\f

Then the crescendo is almost rendered correctly: there is now a
crescendo effect, but the first C is louder than the D, and the D is
so quiet as to be inaudible again.

Clearly something is amiss in crescendo/decrescendo handling.

Package: ftp.debian.org

Hi,

mip6d has seen significantly less activity upstream than I expected at
the time I was uploading it, and it currently FTBFS due to ever-changing
kernel headers. There is a newer source _somewhere_, but it's rather
well hidden and probably requires a patched kernel to work, and I don't
have the resources to second-guess upstream at the moment.

If the software ever becomes more stable, I'll probably make a new
upload, but for now, please remove it.

several other WMs and can't replicate it outside Beryl.

The dvorak file has (largely) compatible equivalents in the respective
national keyboard layouts, so having a specific dvorak file is confusing
to users and leads to inconsistencies like the above - if it's really
important that both exist, could you make dvorak($lang) just include the
 settings from $lang(dvorak)?

Do yo reproduce this bug with the version in unstable?

Bug#437138: reprepro can no longer sign repositories

2007-08-11 Thread Bernhard R. Link
* Kryptiva Packages [EMAIL PROTECTED] [070810 18:32]:
This script worked fine yesterday, and today, after a dist-upgrade, I

 an
ii libgpgme11 1.1.2-5 GPGME - GnuPG Made Easy
ii libdb4.34.3.29-8.1 Berkeley v4.3 Database Libraries
 [

Looking at this versions, that seems to be a stable libgpgme and an
testing/unstable libgpg-error and unstable libdb4.3.
It might be possible that the gpgme libraries miss some versioned
dependencies and your combination has problems. Best try to update
gpg and libgpgme11 both to the unstable versions (so that they match the
distribution libgpg-error0 is intended for).

and then a bit below that:

 Created directory kps-cd/pool/main/d/dpkg
 Exporting indices...
find: reprepro terminated by signal 13

Signal 13 is sigpipe, i.e. reprepro was terminated because it wrote to
a pipe closed at the other side. (Most likely because the client it
connects to was terminated). As I tried to write my own code in a way
it always check before writing, I guess the libgpgme code causes this.
Looks like I'll have to add something to ignore that signal, then. :-(

The all the subsequent calls fails because the lockfile has been left
 behind.

If reprepro terminates unnaturally, the lockfile is always left behind,
so that one is warned the databases might be in a bad state.

Hochachtungsvoll,
Bernhard R. Link

I don't strip, but let cdbs do that during install ... and last time i

Bug#420641: asterisk-oh323 fixed with asterisk 1.4.4

2007-08-11 Thread Kilian Krause
Hi Michael,

I've taken a CVS HEAD snapshot from the sourceforge CVS as you proposed.
To clean up the compilation output I've added some fixes. Please have a
look at these patches[1] and check whether you can import them back
upstream. They do address the -O2 requirement of Debian and remove the
cluttering with version.h not finding the version of PWLib and OpenH323.
I daresay that I'm not happy with the latter patch, as the way the
versions are detected feels wrong anyway, that's what configure is for
or eventually some other mechanism, but not run it with each source file
being compiled. Same goes for the ccflags of OpenH323.

Is there any chance we can see a 0.7.4 with that code as public release
soon?

Thanks!

wrapper_Makefile - just run OPENH323FLAGS _once!_.

Bug#437163: Acknowledgement (fails with W: Mandatory parameter bug missing in call)

2007-08-11 Thread Cristian Ionescu-Idbohrn
Please merge the 2 bugs.

Something must have happened 'elsewhere' :) I no longer see the:

Error retrieving bug reports from the server with the following error message:
W: Mandatory parameter 'bug' missing in call to Debbugs::Status::get_bug_status
 at /usr/local/lib/site_perl/Debbugs/SOAP.pm line 114

Still, that error message is _very_ confusing. There nothing on my boxes
called 'Debbugs'. And we all know packages should _never_ install stuff
under /usr/local. A proper error message (giving more hope) would be
preferred :)

Cheers,

It turned out that the situation is a bit more complex:

Basicly you are saying you have two systems:

- an amd64 in which md5sums do NOT match
- a i386 system in which md5sums do match

since INITBASEDIR was not properly defined in bastille (see #436173) the fact
that the amd64 had a correct INITBASEDIR and a mismatched md5sum makes me
think you (or somebody else) locally edited that file to manually fix the
bug.

 On amd64 architecture:
 /sbin/bastille-firewall-reset
 contains the line INITBASEDIR=/etc/init.d (correct)
 has the md5sum 2d21398465cd7d19339595c7e5d3e971
 /var/lib/dpkg/info/bastille.md5sums contains the corresponding value
   b8280801f22ab957eea46a3766099717 (wrong)

Aren't you sure you didn't locally modify that file? the INITBASEDIR in
bastille was (wrongly) defined until I fixed #436713 which was done a few
days back.

 On i386:
 /sbin/bastille-firewall-reset
 contains the line INITBASEDIR=/etc/rc.d/init.d (wrong)

This was bug #436713 and has been now fixed.

 has the md5sum b8280801f22ab957eea46a3766099717
 /var/lib/dpkg/info/bastille.md5sums contains the corresponding value
b8280801f22ab957eea46a3766099717 (correct for the buggy file)

The file is the one distributed by the package. The bug was fixed in #436713.

Javier

Bug#431862: nss-updatedb: db updates are not atomic

I can give you access to a read only sanitized view of the database, if
that would be helpful. A patch would be great.

Maybe the libnss-db maintainer can should comment on this?

Yes, that would probably also be helpful.
The problem is actually as suspected. libnss-db doesn't use the
database environment so it doesn't actually know that the database is
currently being truncated/updated which makes the user/group lookups
fail. Actually using the dbenv like

rc = dbp-dbenv-open(dbp-dbenv, DB_DIR,
DB_CREATE|DB_INIT_LOG|DB_INIT_LOCK|DB_INIT_MPOOL|
DB_INIT_TXN, 0644);
...

works rather well and solves this problem but has one major drawback: we
can't specify the DB_RECOVER flag here since this would conflict with
the DB_RECOVER flag of nss_updatedb. This could leave us with an
inconsistent database in case an applications aborts leaving an
unrecovered database for all other apps. Any ideas on howto fix this?
Cheers,
 -- Guido

P.S.: could you please insstall db4.3-utils on alioth, this would ease
debugging.

Maybe it is caused by pager. Could you see /etc/alternatives/pager ?
Now I'm using lv for it.

 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/etc/alternatives$ ls -al /etc/alternatives/pager
 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 11 2007-08-10 21:40 /etc/alternatives/pager -

and if I've switched it from lv to jless, I saw an error.

My default pager is /usr/bin/lv too.
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~]% ls -al /etc/alternatives/my default pager is /usr/bin/lv
too.
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 11 Aug 8 07:53 /etc/alternatives/pager - /usr/bin/lv*

update-alternatives show that I have some pagers: /bin/more, /usr/bin/pg,
/usr/bin/less, /usr/bin/w3m, /usr/bin/lv.

then I set PAGER environment when I test it.
this is the results.
more - OK
pg - OK
less - OK
w3m - NG
lv - NG

so, it looks like pager's problem as you said that.
but I don't know why my lv failed, although you cannot see any error with lv:-(

seeing this behavior, please reopen the bug.

This is indeed fixed in 1:7.1-122+1. Thanks!

The kernel misscalculates the necessary space. It is not possible to fix
this from userspace as it doesn't return anything in this case.
