Bug#448447: zekr-quran-translations-en: [debconf_rewrite] Debconf templates and debian/control review
Package: zekr-quran-translations-en Version: N/A Severity: normal Tags: patch Dear Debian maintainer, On Saturday, October 13, 2007, I notified you of the beginning of a review process concerning debconf templates for zekr-quran-translations-en. The debian-l10n-english contributors have now reviewed these templates, and the proposed changes are attached to this bug report. Please review the suggested changes are suggested, and if you have any objections, let me know in the next 3 days. Please try to avoid uploading zekr-quran-translations-en with these changes right now. The second phase of this process will begin on Thursday, November 01, 2007, when I will coordinate updates to translations of debconf templates. The existing translators will be notified of the changes: they will receive an updated PO file for their language. Simultaneously, a general call for new translations will be sent to the debian-i18n mailing list. Both these calls for translations will request updates to be sent as individual bug reports. That will probably trigger a lot of bug reports against your package, but these should be easier to deal with. The call for translation updates and new translations will run until about Thursday, November 22, 2007. Please avoid uploading a package with fixed or changed debconf templates and/or translation updates in the meantime. Of course, other changes are safe. Please note that this is an approximative delay, which depends on my own availability to process this work and is influenced by the fact that I simultaneously work on many packages. Around DAY25, I will contact you again and will send a final patch summarizing all the updates (changes to debconf templates, updates to debconf translations and new debconf translations). Again, thanks for your attention and cooperation. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.22-2-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash --- zekr-quran-translations-en.old/debian/templates 2007-10-12 08:13:30.592122027 +0200 +++ zekr-quran-translations-en/debian/templates 2007-10-29 07:34:02.590752479 +0100 @@ -1,42 +1,42 @@ +# These templates have been reviewed by the debian-l10n-english +# team +# +# If modifications/additions/rewording are needed, please ask +# [EMAIL PROTECTED] for advice. +# +# Even minor modifications require translation updates and such +# changes should be coordinated with translators and reviewers. + Template: quran-translations-en/present-Zekr-Quran-Trans-disclaimer Type: note -_Description: NO WARRANTY FOR AUTHENTICITY OF THE QUR'AN TRANSLATIONS! - Disclaimer: The translations come with this package are publicly - available on the web. Bug#447388: [request-tracker-maintainers] Bug#447388: rtfm: [INTL:pt] Portuguese translation for debconf messages
Quoting Niko Tyni ([EMAIL PROTECTED]): Portuguese translation forrtfm's debconf messages. Translator: Américo Monteiro [EMAIL PROTECTED] Feel free to use it. Hi, the templates are currently being refined on [EMAIL PROTECTED], so I'm afraid we'll need an update before this can be included. I'll get back to you when we are in the 'call for translations' phase for the new templates. Actually, *I* will get back to all translators. This is indeed part of the rewrite/refinement process: -intent to review -review (we're here currently for rtfm): 3 days (or less) later -last chance for comment of review: 10 days later -bug report with templates/control changes: 2 days later -call for translation updates and new translations (3 days or less later) -last reminder for still missing/incomplete translations: 12 days later -final summary and end of process: 2 days later (long process: about 40 days) When a translation team, such as the Portuguese one here, sends a translation *before* the end of the review, I integrate it in my working tree and, thus, the call for updates is also sent to them when time has come. Actually, I prefer avoiding this situation which is why I *alway* send a notice to debian-i18n that new translations for the given package are discouraged until a call is sent.but sometimes, often with the Portuguese team, a translation is still sent for the old templates. signature.asc Description: Digital signature
Bug#448452: Can’t build openafs on i386 userspace with amd64 kernel
Package: openafs-modules-source Version: 1.4.5~pre2.dfsg1-1 The openafs module does not build on an i386 userspace with an amd64 kernel, because the debian/module/sysname script uses `dpkg --print-architecture` to compute the sysname to pass to configure, which returns the architecture of the userspace instead of the kerenel. # m-a -t build openafs … sh configure --with-afs-sysname=i386_linux26 \ … /usr/src/modules/openafs/src/libafs/MODLOAD-2.6.18-5-amd64-MP/afs_vnop_flock.c:46: error: conflicting types for ‘lockIdSet’ The module builds and works fine if I somehow force it to configure --with-afs-sysname=amd64_linux26, for example: # MAKEFLAGS=SYS_NAME=amd64_linux26 m-a -t build openafs This should be detected automatically. Bug#444982: marked as done (CVE-2007-5193 information disclosure in default configuration)
Hi Sven, * Sven Dowideit [EMAIL PROTECTED] [2007-10-29 08:34]: I've uploaded a new version to http://distributedinformation.com/TWikiDebian/ (twiki_4.1.2-3_all.deb) * secure /var/www/twiki/pub/_work_areas (Closes: #444982) CVE-2007-5193 * session files in /tmp/twiki, and add O_EXCL to files that go there * updated Vietnamese translation (Closes: #426850) * don't modify files that are not installed (Closes: #98) I've implemented Joey's suggestion of 1777 O_EXCL - mostly the files in tmp are written by CGI::Session, that takes care of things. I also moved the 1777 tmp dir back to /tmp/twiki, as per Nico's point wrt to filling /var and fixed a few other bitzers I've reported the issue upstream so we can look at doing a more lasting change for the next release. [...] I just looked at the debdiff, way better! I think if I didn't miss something and noone else complains about something this can be uploaded! Thanks for working on this. Bug#445589: ssl-cert: General update after the debconf review process
Dear Debian maintainer, On Wednesday, September 19, 2007, I sent you a notification about the beginning of a review action on debconf templates for ssl-cert. Then, I sent you a bug report with rewritten templates and announcing the beginning of the second phase of this action: call for translation updates. Translators have been working hard and here is now the result of their efforts. Please consider using it EVEN if you committed files to your development tree as long as they were reported. The attached tarball contains: - debian/changelog with the list of changes - debian/control with rewrites of packages' descriptions - debian/templates with all the rewritten templates file(s) - debian/po/*.po with all PO files (existing ones and new ones) As said, please use *at least* the PO files as provided here, preferrably over those sent by translators in their bug reports. All of them have been checked and reformatted. In some cases, formatting errors have been corrected. The patch.rfr file contains a patch for the templates and control file(s) alone. Please note that this patch applies to the templates and control file(s) of your package as of Wednesday, September 19, 2007. If your package was updated in the meantime, I may have updated my reference copybut I also may have missed that. This is indeed why I suggested you do not modified such files while the review process was running, remember..:-) It is now safe to upload a new package version with these changes. Please notify me of your intents with regards to this. There is of course no hurry to update your package but feel free to contact me in case you would need sponsoring or any other action to fix this. -- patch.tar.gz Description: Binary data --- ssl-cert.old/debian/templates 2007-09-16 22:51:16.004883799 +0200 +++ ssl-cert/debian/templates 2007-10-07 08:41:21.264097409 +0200 @@ -1,48 +1,75 @@ +# These templates have been reviewed by the debian-l10n-english +# team +# +# If modifications/additions/rewording are needed, please ask +# [EMAIL PROTECTED] for advice. +# +# Even minor modifications require translation updates and such +# changes should be coordinated with translators and reviewers. + Template: make-ssl-cert/countryname Type: string -_Default: GB -_Description: Country Name - The two letter code for your Country. When the main window is resized, I need the frame to resize upwards rather than downwards. The FreeDesktop window manager specification allows this with the win_gravity hint (which can be set with gtk_window_set_geometry_hints). From the specification (http://standards.freedesktop.org/wm-spec/1.4/ar01s09.html): If an Application requests just a new size, its reference point does not move. So for example if client window has win_gravity SouthEastGravity and is resized, the bottom right corner of its frame will not move but instead the top left corner will be adjusted by the difference in size. XFWM4 does not respect this hint correctly but instead seems to move the reference point when it is set. The window is still resized in the bottom-right direction. The win_gravity hint has no relation to the window gravity set with gtk_window_set_gravity. Metacity respects this hint correctly. As I don't fully interstand everything about WM hints, I've forwarded the bug upstream. Peter Colberg schrieb: As you could probably guess, this is my first time delving into the autotools stuff, so I did not realise that lbdb is using only autoconf, but not automake. This led me to believe that files like Makefile.am were missing, compared to other autotoolized packages. To avoid further confustion about it, the file conigure.in should contain some comments, that lbdb uses some automake configure macros, but not automake itself. And it should state, that additions to aclocal.m4 should be made in acinclude.m4 and aclocal generates aclocal.m4. So finally automake is needed for some development issues, but as long as aclocal.m4 is provided, in most cases autoconf will be sufficiant. Thats some kind of development dependency, which is far beyond the scope of debian packages. So it need not to occure there. Package: linux-image-2.6-xen-686 Version: 2.6.18+6etch2 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable Hello Since installing xen kernel from debian package, i can non longer use my laserjet parallel printer. When printing a document, leds on printer shows that data is coming, but nothing print. All i can say is that lp, parport and parport_pc modules where loaded, both under xen and stock kernel. I have not been able to see anything in logs ( kernel, messages, cups ). Needless to say: it use to work before, and whan i reboot on stock debian kernel, it works again. I am glad daemon mode works. I really do recommend that you use it: it is far more efficient. I am considering deprecating CGI mode! However, it would be good to sort this out. The fact that daemon mode works confirms my suspicion that it is something to do with your apache2 setup. Are you using a vanilla configuration? What modules have you loaded? Bug#448462: ntpdate is not called at boot time
Package: ntp Version: 1:4.2.2.p4+dfsg-2 Severity: important Hello, ntpdate is not called at boot time because of the following reason: When the network device is found by udev, udev calls ifup which executes the script /etc/network/if-up.d/ntpdate. This script checks for the presence of /usr/sbin/ntpdate-debian and exits if that file is not present. As udev is called before the local file systems are mounted, /usr/sbin/ntpdate-debian is of course not there if /usr is on a separate partition. So, /usr/sbin/ntpdate-debian should wait for /usr/sbin before checking for /usr/sbin/ntpdate-debian. Bug#448418: radioclkd segfaults on amd64
On Mon, 2007-10-29 at 00:24 +, Paul Martin wrote: On Sun, Oct 28, 2007 at 10:07:59PM +, Mark Scott wrote: I have a home-built radio clock receiver for the DCF77 time signal that has been working fine for a year while attached to an i386 machine. I moved it to an amd64 machine and find that radioclkd segfaults when decoding the DCF77 signal. radioclkd tries a binary chop across the full range of time_t, starting with the middle value that the type can hold. Unfortunately, gmtime() doesn't like handing the value 0x4000 What happens if you add the following line at line 213 in radioclkd.c? /* calculate the number of magnitude bits in a time_t */ for (bits=0,timep=1;timep0;bits++,timep=1) ; + if (bits 48) bits = 48; /* if time_t is signed, 0 is the median value else 1bits is median */ timep = (timep0) ? 0 : ((time_t) 1bits); This limits the range of time_t values to years 1970 to 8921556. If we're still using longwave radio clocks in eight million years time, we've got major problems. Given that all the longwave radio clocks only broadcast two digit year numbers, eight million years is not a problem. However surely this is a libc bug and not a radioclkd bug. It is not in my opinion appropriate in an open source system to patch radioclkd to work around a bug in libc. We have access to the source of libc and the gmtime function should be fixed in libc. It has the benefit of fixing bugs in other programs potentially before they even manifest themselves. I guess the problem is that libc is not 64bit clean :-( JAB. -- Jonathan A. Bug#448467: xserver-xorg-video-intel: Thinkpad brightness keys don't work
Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel Version: 2:2.1.1-4 Severity: normal The brightness control keys on my Thinkpad R60 stopped working in X some time ago. I have probably upgraded both kernel and X.org since then, and don't know exactly when it broke. Pressing the keys in an X session now only causes a short flicker, but does not affect the brightness. However the KDE on-screen display seems to think everything is fine since I can control the level it reports. The brightness keys still work in a virtual console, just not in X. xbacklight -set changes the brightness in a totally random way. For example p=98 is barely visible, and most other settings give a constant medium-bright level. I can control the brightness at least reasonably well with echo 50 /sys/devices/virtual/backlight/acpi_video1/brightness except that levels below 30 don't seem to have any effect. Also I can do echo up /proc/acpi/ibm/brightness or echo down /proc/acpi/ibm/brightness I have an unpatched kernel 2.6.23 (Linus' git tree) with thinkpad-acpi 0.16, hal 0.5.9.1-6, acpid 1.0.4-7.1. Bug#448469: too many dependencies
Package: libxine1 Version: 1.1.8-1 Severity: wishlist Hi! I suppose what I'm asking for is just the oposite of #439389, for me it doesn't look right that upgrading the libxine1 package adds all this to my system: pul:~# apt-get dist-upgrade Reading package lists... Need to get 0B/14.0MB of archives. After unpacking 46.0MB of additional disk space will be used. As you can see my system doesn't have gnome installed and all the gnome stuff is being installed, even more amazing is all the power management tools that are being installed and the like. I have tried to force the installation of just the libxine1-x part but some of the libs I have like libxine1-ffmpeg and libxine1-xvdr and even xine-ui itself depend on libxine1 so they get removed if I just install the -x version of the lib. I suppose that a solution is not simple here, but what about having the libxine1 package depend on all the stuff but also the core libs like libxine1-x provide something (libxine1?) on which the other packages using the lib can depend so that one can install libxine1-whatever without breaking the packages using this lib? Bug#447712: Package could be non-free in the United Kingdom

If I have understood things correctly, in England (and the rest of the UK?) the copyright is owned by the crown and therefore it is the crown that sets the license. [...] But don't trust me on this, I am merely speculating. AFAICT, that's incorrect: this restriction is from the letters patent, not the copyright (which has long since expired). Wikipedia seems to have been corrected on this since I last looked. Also, it's also not clear whether the patent is actively enforced and it's well-known as not enforced against most printing outside the UK (the KJV is frequently printed in the US, for example, isn't it?) even by Englishmen. So, does debian really need to remove packages of such importance because of a trivially-avoidable not-obviously-enforced patent? Michel Dänzer a écrit : I thought of something that might explain the mystery: Do you happen to have transparent background enabled in gnome-terminal? Nope, the original configuration, I didn't change anything from the default config. How is the resize performance of the two kinds of gnome-terminal windows after you kill and restart compiz? Did a killall compiz.real, which restarts it. The behaviour is the same as before : the first terminal is ok, the second one is sluggish. Bug#423001: karm takes much too long to add/delete items
Hi Sune, On Wednesday 09 May 2007 11:35:27 Sune Vuorela wrote: On Wednesday 09 May 2007, Lee Braiden wrote: Package: karm Version: 4:3.5.6.dfsg.1-2 Severity: normal Karm takes 3-4 seconds to add a to-do item, and 5 seconds to delete a to-do item here. I have a fairly modern system (2.53 Ghz, 512MB RAM), with a load average of 0.11. The delay seems to lock up the app for a moment, preventing the window from refreshing. This also happens on quitting karm, but that may be more normal. Pulling up properties for a task or editing the description of a task and closing the dialog again does not show this problem. Updating the time for a task and then right-clicking the task results in a similar delay before rendering the menu. I imagine that other karm users would have complained by now if this was common, as it's very frustrating and time-consuming when managing large lists of tasks. The only possible reasons I can think of for this affecting me and not others are: Hi! I just fired up karm where I_have around 8 tasks. (not very much used, but I have them) - and I here it react immediately. My system isn't much different from yours (well I_have 1gb of ram, but that's the difference) A easy way to see if it is your settings or your computer is to try with a brand new user and see if it still happens. /Sune I've just had to delete my karm.ics file, after discovering that it was 2.8MB in size, filled with VEVENT entries. My guess is that this is related to the log history option, which I've now disabled. I'm fairly certain this is what was causing my performance problems. 2.8MB flat text ICS files as event databases would surely cause a similar delay to what I was experiencing. I do think this is a valid bug, of the doesn't scale variety. IMHO, history should be logged to another file, and/or in another format. -- Lee Braiden -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#447646: apt-cacher: upstream server caught mid-sync causes indefinite false hits and constant client MD5Sum mismatch errors
The more I think about this issue, the more I think this is a problem with your mirror. - A mirror should sync in an atomic way so that it can never ship a partial file as being complete. - If you are dealing with a broken mirror you can force a refresh using by specifying Acquire::http::No-Cache=true - Checksumming will pickup and reject the incomplete file. So, unless you can show this is still a problem with checksumming enabled, I propose to close this report. Let me know what you think. Bug#448384: gnome-session: opengl artifacts since 2.20 when not full screen
Le dimanche 28 octobre 2007 à 17:03 +, Adam Bartley a écrit : This occurs on an ibook G4, 1.2 Ghx with the Radeon 9200 for graphics. On full screen applications, like armagetron, opengl graphics work as normal. Anything windowed misbehaves, however, by having jittery artifcats, and multiple images of something in motion. Glxinfo and glxgears report nothing unusual in their stats, but glxgears looks awful. Gnome-compiz is installed, but not configured. Is Gnome fighting with opengl somehow? That would explain why fullscreen apps behave themselves. This is most probably caused by your 3D driver. Which driver are you using? -- .''`. : :' : We are debian.org. Need to get 0B/14.0MB of archives. After unpacking 46.0MB of additional disk space will be used. As you can see my system doesn't have gnome installed and all the gnome stuff is being installed, even more amazing is all the power management tools that are being installed and the like. This is not necessarily because of the xine-lib source package, but because of apt now installing recommends by default. If you really care about all this stuff not being installed by default, you need to track down the dependency graph of recommends, and file bugs to demote respective recommends to suggest. (And I'm sure there are bugs to be filed here). Have you tried manually installing/upgrading libxine1-misc before the dist-upgrade? It should be possible now to install xine without that load of additional packages you mentioned above. Since you really want a minimal system, I'd suggest you to configure apt to not install recommends. Bug#448486: azureus: Desktop Entry should use %f, not %U
Package: azureus Version: 2.5.0.4-1 Severity: important Azureus' Desktop Entry (/usr/share/applications/azureus.desktop) specifies azureus %U as Exec= line. However, Azureus doesn't accept URL parameters in the form azureus file:///home/user/file.torrent, so when double-clicking on a .torrent file in Nautilus, Azureus will start with the following error: 'file:///home/username/download/torrentfile.torrent' konnte nicht geöffnet werden: Not a File Replacing the line Exec=azureus %U with Exec=azureus %F fixes the problem for local files. This would break the .desktop entry for URLs, so you probably want to edit the parameters in the /usr/bin/azureus script, so parameters starting with file:// will have this prefix stripped, so the azureus program will receive URLs as URLs and local files as path (i.e. /home/[...]). The format of the Exec value is described here: http://standards.freedesktop.org/desktop-entry-spec/latest/ar01s06.html How to reproduce: 1.) Double-click on a .torrent file in your filesystem 2.) Azureus opens and displays the aforementioned error message When replacing the Exec= line as described above: 1.) Double-click on a .torrent file in your filesystem 2.) Bug#446035: zim: make trayicon transparent
Hi, I'm using zim in gnome. There is probably something more to do there because it's not the first time a transparent png icon turns gray in the gnome tray. Tested on Gnome and it looks OK to me. Maybe there is a dependence on e.g. the theme engine? You might want to test how it looks with other themes or default theme. Anyway, please close this bug and report the issue to Gnome tray component or theming component if applicable. Regards, Jaap [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hangs where and works fine where? Sorry, hangs in stable, works in unstable. Here, I just upgraded everything to Testing and the pipe works fine with both URL (don't forget the gvfm.ogg extension on the second one). So, the above works fine to directly launch the stream, but Rhythmbox fails, which again points to Rhythmbox incorrectly accessing Gstreamer. Note that in both cases, the stream starts with a snippet that says something like Connection for this stream courtesy of Nebula.fi and then continues with the next song which is the actual live stream. The second stream works fine for me in unstable, both with the pipeline and in Rhythmbox 0.10.1 and 0.11.2. Bug#448490: kate: Kate has no crash recovery
Package: kate Version: 4:3.5.7.dfsg.1-1 Severity: important Kate does not store unsaved work, so if the network connection (or kate) crashes you will lose all your unsaved work. I encontered this problem when running kate remotely, over X; the network went down briefly and everything that I did evaporated. Now, I'm sure someone will tell me save your work, but many modern text editors like vim and Word (and a few others I might mention) save state to allow recovery from a crash. I assumed that kate also did so. This is an important bug because an unbiassed observer (i.e. someone who hadn't just lost two hours of work) told me Well, cross *that* editor off your list. Thus, it is a severe enough problem to render kate unusable -- at least in competition with other editors. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.22-2-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=en_GB, LC_CTYPE=en_GB (charmap=ISO-8859-1) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages kate depends on: ii kdelibs4c2a 4:3.5.7.dfsg.1-7 core libraries and binaries for al ii libacl1 2.2.45-1 Access control list shared library ii libart-2.0-22.3.19-3 Library of functions for 2D graphi ii libattr11:2.4.39-1 Extended attribute shared library ii libaudio2 1.9-3Network Audio System - shared libr ii libc6 2.6.1-1+b1 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libfontconfig1 2.4.2-1.2generic font configuration library ii libfreetype62.3.5-1+b1 FreeType 2 font engine, shared lib ii libgamin0 [libfam0] 0.1.9-2 Client library for the gamin file ii libgcc1 1:4.2.2-3GCC support library ii libice6 2:1.0.4-1X11 Inter-Client Exchange library ii libidn111.1-1GNU libidn library, implementation ii libjpeg62 6b-14The Independent JPEG Group's JPEG ii libpng12-0 1.2.15~beta5-3 PNG library - runtime ii libqt3-mt 3:3.3.7-9Qt GUI Library (Threaded runtime v ii libsm6 2:1.0.3-1+b1 X11 Session Management library ii libstdc++6 4.2.2-3 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libx11-62:1.0.3-7X11 client-side library ii libxcursor1 1:1.1.9-1X cursor management library ii libxext61:1.0.3-2X11 miscellaneous extension librar ii libxft2 2.1.12-2 FreeType-based font drawing librar ii libxi6 2:1.1.3-1X11 Input extension library ii libxinerama11:1.0.2-1X11 Xinerama extension library ii libxrandr2 2:1.2.2-1X11 RandR extension library ii libxrender1 1:0.9.4-1X Rendering Extension client libra ii libxt6 1:1.0.5-3X11 toolkit intrinsics library ii zlib1g 1:1.2.3.3.dfsg-6 compression library - runtime Versions of packages kate recommends: ii kregexpeditor 4:3.5.7-3 graphical regular expression edito -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#448491: gpomme: causes a lot of CPU wakeup
Package: gpomme Version: 1.10~dfsg-1 Severity: important Hi ! First, thanks for this work, I appreciate it everyday :) While playing with powertop to get a decent battery usage on the mbp under linux, I noticed that gpomme wakes the cpu up a lot. This can be due to an active polling, or anything else, but it's a shame since I would prefer to kill it in order to save the battery. That would be nice if you could find a way to work around this.
