Bug#495623: compiz slow performance on intel 915

public_debian wrote:

the performance of compiz fusion on debian lenny with an intel 915
graphics card is bad... especially when scrolling. This may be due to
the card not managing memory properly (geedy behaviour). This bug is not
found or isn't as serious on ubuntu hardy...

You should send your X config and log.

This is probably related to EXA, and I think Ubuntu changed the default
EXA migration, it might explain why the behavior is slightly different.

It seems that you were right - I have at least two libgadu.pc files, one

I think it can be caused by improper uninstall of some of the previous
versions of kadu, that I've installed from sources and that contained
 libgadu.

Sounds likely.

So this bug report seems to be invalid.

Closing.

Should I do anything beyond removing the old libgadu? In order to fix my
 system?

I think that removing all traces of libgadu from under /usr/local should
be enough. If that version was very diffent from the one provided in a
deb, and if you have other local programs that are linked against it,
you also might need to recompile them.

Bug#495630: ITP: libfaketime -- report faked system time to programs

Description : report faked system time to programs

libfaketime intercepts various system calls which programs use to
retrieve the current date and time. It can then report faked dates and
times (as specified by you, the user) to these programs. This means
you can modify the system time a program sees without having to change
the time system-wide. FTPL allows you to specify both absolute dates
(e.g., 01/01/2004) and relative dates (e.g., 10 days ago).

You need to tell me exactly what you did. What you describe is not
possible. I don't contest you are seeing a problem, but I have done
these steps hundreds of times without any problem ever.

Ok, just did it now from scratch.
I removed the 4 virtual disk .vmdk files from my VMware vm.
Made again 4 virtual 8 GB disks like always.

/dev/sda has only one 8 GB big Linux partition, nothing special.
Copied the partition table from my first disk to all of it:

fz-vm:~# sfdisk -d /dev/sda| sfdisk /dev/sdc
fz-vm:~# sfdisk -d /dev/sda| sfdisk /dev/sdd

Repeated for sde and sdf

fz-vm:~# mdadm -C -l10 -n4 /dev/md0 /dev/sdc1 /dev/sdd1 /dev/sde1 /dev/sdf1

Bug#462835: Debian bug #462835 grub-pc: alloc magic is broken

2008-08-19 Thread Felix Zielcke
Am Montag, den 18.08.2008, 23:06 -0400 schrieb Bharath Ramesh:
 Sorry for a late reply.

No problem.

I do not get the alloc
magic is broken error any more with grub2 and lvm.mod. Grub2 never
works if I have lvm.mod included.

What do you mean with that? What is GRUB telling you?
Does it go to rescue mode without showing any error message or do does
it hang?
Please try the freshly new uploaded 1.96+20080724-8 version.
There was a bug in the LVM module that the error variable was given back
to the upper layer so it goes to rescue mode even if it shouldn't in
that case.

 I ran grub-emu with my grub.cfg
which I have attached with this email. I get the following error when
 I use the grub.cfg in grub-emu

error: invalid arch independent ELF magic

I have attached grub.cfg along with this email. grub.cfg_broken gives
the above error while grub.cfg_working is the only working config file
 to make my laptop boot.
This is normal grub-emu doestn't support modules at all but lvm.mod is
compiled in, so you don't need to load it to use your lvm devices with
e.g. `ls' command.

Once again I am sorry for this late reply.

Once again no problem :)
A `late' reply like yours is better then getting none at all for months.

Bug#495373: Poor support for the xmonad WM; blank windows with the cairo backend

2008-08-19 Thread Michal Suchanek
On 19/08/2008, Yavor Doganov [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:
 Hi Michal,

Here is what the upstream GNUstep Back maintainer replied:

I have no idea what business has GNUstep with window borders. The
application draws into its window and the window location on the
screen and decorations are the business of the window manager.

  |

  | problem is not reproducable for you.
  `

Do you have any clues about that? I took a quick look at the source
  code, but it's all Haskell...

Just set the offsets to 0 when the windows are not reparented, and if
somebody complains they can get the them calculated properly. With
typical configuration you would be at most one pixel off even if the
value was actually useful for something.

It appears that the grey windows you get with cairo are unrelated to
this problem. Can you try a GNUstep app with the cairo backend under
a different WM (such as wmaker or anything else that is convenient for
  you to install)? Thanks.

I do have wmaker installed because I use wmsetbg. The problem is the
same with AClock running under wmaker except it does not complain
about offsets.

Thanks

Michal

Bug#495630: libfaketime or just faketime?

2008-08-19 Thread Daniel Kahn Gillmor
The libfaketime LD_PRELOAD hack would be really useful to me for
writing a test suite for some time-sensitive code. However, packaging
it as a library seems a little bit weird. I'm tempted to package it
instead as a simple binary package called faketime, by analogy with
fakeroot and fakechroot.

I'd write (and provide upstream, if they want it) a simple
/usr/bin/faketime wrapper script and man page if i went this route.

Any thoughts on the right thing to do? It seems a little silly to
worry about the nuances of library packaging when this is clearly not
used as a typical library would be used. (e.g. calling ldconfig in
post{inst,rm} makes no sense).

OTOH, upstream does explicitly call the package libfaketime.

I welcome suggestions.

Bug#495635: pwgen: -B switch causes -c switch to fail

Package: pwgen
Version: 2.05-1

When using the -B switch (generate unambiguous passwords) along with -c
(include at least one capital letter), some passwords are generated
without capital letters.

This example also uses the -n switch, though the error is still
there without it (errors marked with ''):

It appears that you have a /etc/gtk-2.0/gdk-pixbuf.loaders.32 file; I'm
not sure why. What is in that file?

Also, what is
in /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/loader-files.d/libgtk2.0-0.loaders?

Ok. I thought that you see the same.

1. After installation:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ gnucash
gnc.bin-Message: main: binreloc relocation support was disabled at configure
time.

**
** gnc.gui:ERROR:(gnc-icons.c:68):gnc_add_stock_icon_pair: assertion failed:
(pixbuf1 pixbuf2)

Aborted

2. Let's look at code:

 65 /* Load the pixbufs */
 66 pixbuf1 = gnc_gnome_get_gdkpixbuf (filename1);
 67 pixbuf2 = gnc_gnome_get_gdkpixbuf (filename2);
 68 g_assert (pixbuf1  pixbuf2);

3. But why it crashes?

strace gnucash 2 trace (i've attached trace to the message)

 9615 stat64(/usr/lib32/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/loaders/libpixbufloader-png.so,
0xbfc601fc) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)

 9618 open(/usr/lib32/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/loaders/libpixbufloader-png.so,
O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)

Looks like gnucash tries to load libraries from /usr/lib32

4. Let's try workaround:

ln -s /usr/lib /usr/lib32

Gnucash starts normally.

What makes you think it's looking in /usr/lib32? If I do
ldd /usr/lib/gnucash-bin, it finds the libraries in /usr/lib without a
hitch, and the executable doesn't say the path anyway.

Bug#495630: ITP: libfaketime -- report faked system time to programs

2008-08-19 Thread Peter Palfrader
On Tue, 19 Aug 2008, Daniel Kahn Gillmor wrote:

libfaketime intercepts various system calls which programs use to
retrieve the current date and time.

How does this differ from datefudge?

Bug#495628: general: setting system users' homes in their data directory slower security scanning

2008-08-19 Thread Christian Perrier
Quoting alex bodnaru ([EMAIL PROTECTED]):
 Package: general
 Severity: normal

putting the home directory of users like postgres or especially backuppc
in their data directory makes routine scans of tiger over the homes directory
for user related suspect files work significantly slower.

there is no reason to scan those directories, since they contain structured
data only, but only accidental logins of those users may bring bad thing
 here,
and this should be the second reason not to set their homedirs here.

Why don't you discuss this with the respective maintainers of these
packages?

I doubt that an overall policy about this is, at this very moment,
something that can really happen and I highly suspect that this bug
report just gets ignored by many (not judging its validity, which I
have no competent advice about).

No, it is not arch-related. I have tried in amd64 too. , I have though you
could have some corrupted data in your config file

And it crashes when it tries to write the score.

Bug#495614: desktop-base: No orbit-moreblue theme for gdm

2008-08-19 Thread Fathi Boudra
I'm not sure if this bug has to be addressed within gdm, so please
  feel
free to reassign. It just seems as if desktop-base provides the themes
  for
kdm, so imho it would be logical if it did the same for gdm.

gdm currently ships debian-moreblue, but I wonder if we should ship
MoreBlue Orbit in desktop-base (and slim, and xdm etc.)

IMHO, desktop-base should ship default artwork for customized component, gdm
included.

cheers,

Fathi

2008-08-19 Thread Brian May

Trent W. Buck wrote:

I think you might have accidentally reversed the patches. This is confusing.

Bug#486507: #486507: Confirm this bug and workaround

2008-08-19 Thread Adam Cécile (Le_Vert)

Hello,

I can confirme this strange bug too.
Vmware works fine on my lenny workstation but fails on my notebook (both
are up-to-date lenny).

This workaround fixed the problem for me:

1. Get old libx11, example from etch.
2. Create directory $VMWARE/lib/libX11.so.6/ (where $VMWARE is the
installation directory of vmware-server-console)
3. Copy libX11.so.6* from etch's libx11-6_1.0.3X/usr/lib/ to
$VMWAR/lib/libX11.so.6/
4. Edit $VMWARE/lib/wrapper-gtk24.sh (my vmware-server-client version:
1.0.6):

Bug#495618: desktop-base: Please provide artwork for splashy and/or usplash

I'm not really sure how is splash screen integrated in Debian (I mean,
default install doesn't install some splash screen, and it seems to not
work on some installs). I wonder if it's worth adding themes to
desktop-base for them (but they sure can integrate them)

 Thoughts?

some days ago, on a thread of debian-desktop ml:
At the moment, desktop-base doesn't interact with usplash/splashy only
(we don't have an official bootsplash used in Debian, I have hope for
Lenny+1).

I agree, it could be nice to provide usplash/splashy themes but current
packages (desktop-base, usplash, splashy) doesn't allow this customization.

For splashy, it's trivial as it uses background wallpaper and a configuration
files only but for usplash, we need to add theme library build to
desktop-base. Indeed usplash and splashy must handle desktop-base provided
theme.

I guess mostly for Lenny+1. We could add bootsplash related artwork now.

yes it was to give userspace some time to react.
we allways stated that we *don't* guarantee to have it set for lenny.

What I regret is that there should have been more communication with
 developers.

Being the source of the change, the consequences should have been
tracked by the kernel team and the change made at the moment all
userspace utilities have been updated. Which is what I call a
 transition.

no the kernel is not a lib
if an app doesn't work with default kernel it is plain buggy.

 Well:

 Version: 1.10-1

Is there something I'm missing here ?

my powertop is still reporting that no ACPI power usage estimate
 available

right we debugged that with jcristau on irc and powertop is buggy.
if current_now or energy_now or voltage_now is not present in
for example /sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/ no value will be shown.

See also #491396 for acpi-support: that one lead me to think that
there are still utilities that are broken by dropping /proc/acpi
support and it would better be reinstated.

(indeed all this plus following Sulamita Garcia's talk at DC8 and the
discussions we had later brings me to the idea of a Power Management
team, dealing with these issues and who could be a good reference
point in such situations, but that's mostly another story)

deprecated ACPI_PROCFS_POWER will be set for lenny as it is show now
that too much userspace is still too buggy to interpret the sys files.

This is wrong as the only configuration is found in the same directory
in a file called CONFIG.gz. However a README just pointing out
documentation in the same directory as itself is kinda pointless so I
suggest removing the README entireley.

Fair enough.

 Maybe change that to:

Fine with me. First echo should have s/files/group/. Also, delgroup
should be deleted (or at least moved down below deluser), because

Warning: Removing group `amavis', since no other user is part of it.

PS: based on the code in /usr/bin/sensible-editor, those tests should

with invoke-rc.d:

I'm not quite concerned about which exact severity level a given bug has,

It has been closed by Alessandro De Zorzi [EMAIL PROTECTED].

Their explanation is attached below along with your original report.
If this explanation is unsatisfactory and you have not received a
better one in a separate message then please contact Alessandro De
Zorzi [EMAIL PROTECTED] by replying to this email.

Dude, do you understand what RFA means? It does not mean, hijack this
package when you feel like it. Please undo this damage forthwith.

Could you please try to lower the tone of the conversation? I sponsored the
package of Alessandro, who told me that he wrote you an e-mail before the
upload (which I think you didn't read, according to your message).

Please consider the following points:

- RFA means you can adopt the package with the approval of the previous
maintainer. Which I never did do. I did read the messages of Alessandro but
they needed more consideration.

- The RFA called for adoption of the package in conjuction with egroupware,
which AFAICT, neither of you considered.

- There is currently a release freeze, which means that no new packages, least
of all completely new upstream versions, should be uploaded.

- I saw in the changelog Added php4 dependencies. What is the point of
that? There is no PHP4 in Debian anymore.

All of these points together indicate to me that this package takeover was not
very wisely planned and executed.

Do you want me to upload the old version of the package with a new epoch,
put you back as a maintainer, retitle the bug from RFA to ITA, do again the
 upload with a new epoch?

I ask that you upload the old version of the package with a new epoch, put me
back as the maintainer, reopen the RFA bug, and refrain from interfering with
the package until after the lenny release and further consultation with me.

Bug#495541: linux-image-2.6.26-1-686: Please reactivate CONFIG_ACPI_PROCFS_POWER

2008-08-19 Thread Christian Perrier
(the bug was already reported to powertop)

Quoting maximilian attems ([EMAIL PROTECTED]):

Being the source of the change, the consequences should have been
tracked by the kernel team and the change made at the moment all
userspace utilities have been updated. Which is what I call a
  transition.

no the kernel is not a lib
if an app doesn't work with default kernel it is plain buggy.

I think this is mostly rethorical.

Changing settings in the kernel is pretty much similar to changing the
version of a library. So, it should be handled mostly the same way,
IMHO: identify the affected packages, talk about it in -devel,
organise a transition with the affected maintainers, track this down
in the BTS and do the change when everything is ready.

That undoubtfully consumes resources and I know these are scarce. In
such case, the only solution left is to minimize such invasive
changes.

I sincerely hope that this story will lead the kernel team to consider
such approach for upcoming similar changes you guys might want to do.

deprecated ACPI_PROCFS_POWER will be set for lenny as it is show now
that too much userspace is still too buggy to interpret the sys files.

Thanks you very much for that decision. I think this is the wise
choice, indeed, and I appreciate that the kernel team is taking this
seriously. Really, it's much appreciated.

Subject: Catalan DDTP issues

Hi,

The Catalan Translation file seems to have duped entries, and I think
it's missing several others, like dacco-eng-users.s, as seen at:

  http://ftp.fi.debian.org/debian/dists/sid/main/i18n/Translation-ca

I've not checked others, so it could be a general problem.

On the DDTSS we have 42 pending translations for stuff that's quite
specialized, which blocks translations for more important and common
packages. I guess this is due to the force fetch problems mentioned
before on the i18n list. Could someone please reset the pending list?

thanks,
guillem

Juhapekka Tolvanen wrote (2008-08-18 16:52 +0300):

This is weird: Normally /usr/share/doc/packagename/copyright tells,

unicode is a native Debian package which means that Debian is the
upstream and uploads to Debian archive can be considered as releases.
The relevant section in the policy manual:

In addition, the copyright file must say where the upstream sources
(if any) were obtained. It should name the original authors of the
package and the Debian maintainer(s) who were involved with its
creation.

I think this belongs to the category if any. Anyway, README.Debian
file tells that the package is native; maybe clarifying it in the
copyright file too wouldn't hurt.

I've not checked others, so it could be a general problem.

On the DDTSS we have 42 pending translations for stuff that's quite
specialized, which blocks translations for more important and common
packages. I guess this is due to the force fetch problems mentioned
before on the i18n list. Could someone please reset the pending list?

thanks

i18n.d.n is still down... After a reboot/reconnection I can fix this...

Thanks for the report.

neither had I received DSA 1629-2 at that time.

Bug#495647: iceweasel: home page defaults to Gran Paradiso home page

2008-08-19 Thread Paul Collins
Package: iceweasel
Version: 3.0.1-1
Severity: minor

http://www.mozilla.org/projects/granparadiso/ is the default
home page for newly created profiles. This appears to be
because 'browser.startup.homepage' is set to
'resource:/browserconfig.properties', which I guess refers
to one of the following files

/usr/lib/iceweasel/browserconfig.properties
/usr/share/iceweasel/browserconfig.properties

both of which contain

browser.startup.homepage=http://www.mozilla.org/projects/granparadiso/

a page that, in an Iceweasel 3.0 context, is either strange,
annoying or terrifying, depending on one's disposition.

Bug#495359: perl is in an unusable state during etch-lenny dist-upgrade and breaks the upgrade process

2008-08-19 Thread Niko Tyni
On Mon, Aug 18, 2008 at 09:14:24PM +0300, Niko Tyni wrote:

Even if this is deemed to be a policy violation by the gs-common package,
I suspect it's not the only one, and finding them all is non-trivial.

In light of the above, I think it is a policy violation and I don't
really think we have much choice here.

For the gs-common / defoma case, the way out would seem to be something like:

  - go through the packages depending on defoma in Etch, find broken
prerm scripts and make sure they have equivalents in Lenny that survive
'failed-upgrade'. It may be possible to do most of this by changing
/usr/bin/dh_installdefoma behaviour and binNMUing the packages,
not sure about that.

Hm, this doesn't seem too bad. The gs-common package is somewhat a special
case because it has a prerm in Etch but not in Lenny. Most prerm scripts
treat 'failed-upgrade' as a no-op so that installation continues normally.

  - remove all defoma-app invocations from the 'prerm upgrade' code paths in
lenny so we don't hit this again in the future

... or guard them with '|| true', I suppose.

  - (optionally) fix /usr/sbin/defoma-app in lenny to fail gracefully
when its dependencies are unconfigured, particularly when File::Copy
can't be found, to avoid the 'failed-upgrade' path if defoma happens
to get upgraded first

As for others, I suppose we'll have to fix them as they show up.
It looks like libxml-libxml-perl.prerm is one.

As above, the Lenny libxml-libxml-perl.prerm survives 'failed-upgrade', so
this is a false positive.

 A systematical way
of finding them could be to unpack new perl and perl-modules on Etch
and then doing partial upgrades for all the Etch packages one by one
somehow. That would take quite a while, I suppose.

Scripting this is pretty easy however, just running something like

etch# apt-get install $package
etch# perl -pi -e s/etch/lenny/ /etc/apt/sources.list
etch# apt-get update
etch# dget perl perl-base $package
etch# dpkg --unpack perl*.deb ${package}*.deb

should do. The 'apt-get update' can be optimized away with separate etch
and lenny chroots.

That definately does not hold, but it may give the impression to users that
all systems running Postfix are vulnerable, which is very far from reality.
I'm not quite concerned about which exact severity level a given bug has,
since that's quite abstract, but I am advocating to be careful with factual
statements about the impact of the vulnerability as you did above.

Ah thank you. I had borrowed the words from the possible justifications
of critical at http://release.debian.org/etch/rc_policy.txt and ment
this only as distinction from grave being introduces a security hole
allowing access to the accounts of users who use the package which
applies much less.

I know that most postfix users were not affected. So it would have been
better to leave that line away, or to add a limitation like under
certain circumstances.

Bug#491739: [PATCH 0/3] improve cookie handling and ie compatibility

Hi,

Le 17 août 08 à 18:15, Stephen J. Smith a écrit :

Thibaut,

Thanks for your interesting and useful mod_muscindex project. I
recently set up a music server based on mod_musicindex, and I am very
happy with the results.

I did run into a few issues, which the patches that I will send you
shortly address. I am sending them to you in the hope of making
mod_musicindex even better.

I broke the changes up into three different patches, which address
three different issues:

* mod_musicindex overwrites cookies that it did not create
* streaming playlists to IE7 does not work
* form buttons do not work with IE7

Awesome, thanks a lot for this extremely valuable feedback. I don't
use IE (I don't even have it on any of my machines) so feedback +
detailed description of the issue + patch is really very cool!

I'm currently on vacation so I'll look into this in depth sometimes
soon, but from what I've seen so far, Patch 1 is a no-brainer and is
accepted, Patch 2 is also good to go as far as I could tell, and
regarding Patch 3, I'll see if I can make this a bit cleaner (I'm
thinking about modifying the form itself rather than the interpreting
code)

I'm CC'ing a Debian bug as Patch 2 and 3 directly concern it (and
probably fixes it as well),

Many thanks for your input!

Thibaut

Also, I would note that at current disk prices, 26 MB of disk space
costs less than a penny. Accordingly, this will not be a major priority
for me unless you can give me a more specific usage case.

The problem is not the cost, but the fact is that one cannot change
the disk and/or reinstall may be risky (e.g. old laptops which is my
case for the moment, but also handhelds, where disk space is always
limited). Also, this is only 26 MB for gnucash, but other packages
had/have the same problem, so that it could end up in hundreds of MBs.

 thanks for testing it.
I didn't see any specific development in the static link area so I'm not
really surprised the error still happens.

gah sorry... wrong bug :)

Hello again Jeff,

one more bug report on 2.6.26.2. It looks like .25 is affected as well
are both suffering from it.

I use Debian lenny guest environment in UML to automatically build software
 for the Nokia Maemo environment.

The overnight all work fine using UML 2.6.24-1um-1. However, UML
2.6.25-1um-2 and UML 2.6.26-1um-2 both crash, early in each build, with
the kernel panic shown below. I can easily reproduce this with my automated
build system although I have not yet found another stress test (even doing a
kernel build in the guest environment) which reproduces it.

 The crash details are:

 Eeek! page_mapcount(page) went negative! (-1)

Bug#495653: samba: libc free() crash in smbd

2008-08-19 Thread Uwe Schindler
Package: samba
Version: 2:3.2.0-4
Severity: important

Since update to 3.2.0, smbd crashes with segfault whenever a user (from
WindowsXP) needs to authenticate. Public shares without authentication (see
attached config) work correct. After the crash the smbd daemon is unuseable
anymore and needs to be restarted hard (kill -9), simple sysv restart leaves
some crashed processes around making smbd unuseable.

Here is the log:

Bug#495654: debbugs: doesn’t show forwarded-to address anymore

2008-08-19 Thread Josselin Mouette
Package: debbugs

Hi,

the new layout of the debbugs web interface is a great improvement,
however an important information disappeared in the process: the URL a
bug is forwarded to.

It would be good to have it back in bugreport.cgi’s header, and in
pkgreport.cgi the ↝ sign could simply be a link to it.

Thanks,

While reviewing the Locale:Po4a:XML manpage I've found some typos:

formed and results in an improper content when viewing the manpage.
The 'untranslated' option is not shown as such and instead this is
   show as follows:

  translated =item unstranslated
Space-separated list of the tags you want to translate or not.
The tags must be in the form aaa,
but you can join some (bbbaaa) to indicate that the content of
the tag aaa will only be
translated when its into a bbb tag.

 Notice the '=item' there.

I get a more strange output in version 0.34-2:

quote

 unstranslated
Space-separated list of the tags you want to translate or not. The tags
must be in the form aaa, but
you can join some (bbbaaa) to indicate that the content of the tag aaa
will only be translated
s into a bbb tag.
when itâ.Sp You can also specify some tag options putting some characters in
front of the tag hierarchy.
wâ (wrap) or âWâ (donât wrap)
For example, you can put âto overide the default behavior specified by the
global wrap option.

   Example: Wchaptertitle
/quote

Could it be a groff problem (I have version 1.18.1.1-20)?

Bug#495656: apache2-mpm-worker: ThreadLimit directive goes unnoticed

2008-08-19 Thread max. techter
Package: apache2-mpm-worker
Version: 2.2.3-4+etch4
Severity: important

Hi,

Using the ThreadLimit directive when configuring apache2 to use the
mpm_worker_module, the startup messages show that this directive is
ignored. Apache always maintains the value 64.

there is a

  #define DEFAULT_THREAD_LIMIT 64

setting in file

./server/mpm/worker/worker.c:

of the apache2 source package.

Below a series of mpm_worker_module configurations and the associated
start or stop messages. The series supports my notion that the directives
are read and checked for consistency, but the value of ThreadLimit is
always presupposed to be at its default value of 64 -- whatever the
directive is.

2008-08-19 Thread Avery Fay
Well, I don't know who's fault it is, update-manager or
dpkg-reconfigure, but programs that don't have focus really shouldn't
grab focus from other programs. I just hit this bug myself because I was
in a terminal at the time and hit enter. I have no idea what question
I answered and what the default I selected was. I actually consider this
a pretty significant usability bug.

On a German keyboard the key right of the 0 key is used for three symbols:
unmodified it's 'ß', with shift it's '?', and with 'Alt Gr' (the right
Alt key on a German keyboard) it's '\'. Unfortunately typing Alt Gr-ß
prints the 'ß' characters on a remote Windows 2000 server (running TightVNC)
not the (rather important) '\' key. Other VNC clients (like TightVNC or
 XVNC 4) work fine.

Thanks for your report. This is already known upstream.

Does it happen with vinagre 2.23.4-1 from experimental?

used to work fine, but since recently, instead of halting at the end
 of the process, it reboots.

My kernel package is linux-image-2.6.26-1-686, version 2.6.26-2.

I haven't tried the reported versions but you said since recently so
I'd like confirm that s2disk works nicely here in the current Lenny with
uswsusp 0.7-1.2 and kernel .25-2-686. I also added s2disk to

Bug#495355: libgtk2.0-0: libgnomepreakpad.so missing for gtk apps

2008-08-19 Thread Josselin Mouette
reassign 495355 gnome-session
thanks

It appears that bug-buddy got removed because the upgrade from
gnome-core 2.14.3.6 to 2.22.2 no longer depends on it. I can install by
hand, but it seems like that dependency should still be enforced if it's
 something expected by apps.

Well, it’s gnome-session that should not set the environment if
bug-buddy is not installed.

Cheers,

Bug#495040: how about requesting removal of libflash

2008-08-19 Thread Osamu Aoki
Hi Iwamatu-san,

I was doing summary of browser plugins and encountered this package and
this RC bug report.

Technically, this RC bug report may not be correct to say serious. It
is just important. Just because some sites crash browser does not
mean this is RC. (I did not check but this may require recompile to fix
this.) But this package in this version is not so useful since youtube
marks this as too old to be used and refuse to serve video.

This package deserve to be removed since it is not maintained. The
latest version is GPLFlash v0.5.4 on 31-01-2007 while your package is
0.4.13-9 on 6 May 2006.

There are 2 good FREE flash players swfdec and gnash these days. (Both
are current and do decent job working with youtube. (Both do not work
as google street view.)

In light of these facts, the best thing to do is remove this package per
maintainer request or leaving this bug report as serious by not changing
severity.

Just my thought...

Osamu
