Bug#511243: RFA: boinc -- BOINC distributed computing infrastructure

2009-07-12 Thread Fernando C. Estrada
I'm interested in BOINC, and I'm glad if I can be a member of the team.

I started reading BOINC and DEBIAN related documentation and reviewing
bugs by Rene's suggestion. I'm not a Debian Developer, but I want to see
BOINC in good shape in Debian and start the NM process.

My alioth user is: fcestrada-guest.

Cheers!

Bug#518037: What can I do to help?

2009-07-12 Thread Erik de Castro Lopo
Kurt Roeckx wrote:

This bug is indeed blocking the transition.

Version 1.0.20-1 was built succesfully, but the testsuite error
is now being ignored and the package built succesfully.

Personally I think ignoring errors thrown up by the test suite
is a bad idea. For instance the libsndfile testsuite found a bug
in gcc's code generator when generating ARMEL code for libvorbis.

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=515949

 So the question is:
 - Do you think it should migrate to testing as is or not?

No I don't. There is still a question mark over the functionality
on MIPS. It should be investigated properly.

Reason why you could think it should migrate:
   - This bug affects the version in stable (1.0.17-4+lenny2) and/or

This bug affects functionality that was not present in 1.0.17.

testing (1.0.18-2), and so is not a regression. If you
mark it as found in those version, it will migrate.

This bug did not affect 1.0.18 because Ogg/Vorbis support was not
enabled at build time (missing Build-Depends). Hence, it is not
a regression.

   - It's not a release critical bug, it's only a minor functionaly
that's broken and it's mostly ussable even with this. You
could change the severity so it's not release critical.

I'm concerned about people using libsndfile to convert audio
data to Ogg/Vorbis and deleting the source before listening to
output files. Doing this could result in lost input files and
garbage output files.

Anyway, try to fix this bug, I see this in the various built logs:
 arm:
 Line 231: Actual SNR ( 0.0) target SNR (-31.0).

Arm we know about. Thats a code generator bug in the ARM gcc.

 mips:
 Line 231: Actual SNR ( 57.4) target SNR (-31.0).
 hppa:
 Line 231: Actual SNR ( 57.4) target SNR (-31.0).
 ia64:
 Line 231: Actual SNR ( 58.7) target SNR (-31.0).
 mipsel:
 Line 231: Actual SNR ( 57.4) target SNR (-31.0).
 powerpc:
 Line 279: Actual SNR ( 59.3) target SNR (-29.0).

These are probably instances of the same bug.

 alpha:
 test_wrapper.sh: line 33: 20915 Floating point exception./floating_point_test

And that is another issue.

If you want access to a certain arch, it's probably best
to mail the porter list for that arch. If you can make
a standalone test program for any of those issues I can
test them on the various arches for you, but it will
probably go faster if you can test things yourself.

I'll try the porters lists, probably starting with MIPS.

Bug#536653: gnome-screensaver: screen saver does not come on after idle time

2009-07-12 Thread Takis Diakoumis
Package: gnome-screensaver

Severity: grave

i have the screen saver set to trigger after 1 min (have tried other
times too) it simply does not come on. it can be activated using the
panel applet and it works fine. problem is only that it does not come on
when the idle time is reached. the daemon is starting and running as
expected. i also ran it form a terminal after killing the 'original'
daemon as follows:

gnome-screensaver --no-daemon --debug

the screen saver again did not trigger. the result of the above is

Bug#536654: Simplified/Traditional vs. China/Taiwan

2009-07-12 Thread Wei Mingzhi
Package: iceweasel-l10n
Version: 1:3.0.11+debian-1
Severity: wishlist

currently the description of iceweasel-l10n-zh-cn says Chinese
(China) language package for Iceweasel, and the description of
iceweasel-l10n-zh-tw says Chinese (Taiwan) language package for
Iceweasel. It would better to replace the China and Taiwan to
Chinese (Simplified) and Chinese (Traditional), as both the
Simplified and Traditional Chinese are not only used in China Mainland
or Taiwan (for example, Simplified Chinese is also used in Southeast
Asian countries like Singapore or Malaysia, and Traditional Chinese is
also used in Hong Kong and Macau). There is also some political issues
which would be better to avoid for Debian :)

In Canto's homepage, the example config looks like this:

I send the patch to fix this, not sure if diff format is ok.

Bug#493599: pushing udns into squeeze

Hello.
Thank you for bringing this issue up again.

While udns has no entered etch or lenny, we should reconsider that

depends on udns and can only go into a stable release if udns goes too
or udns stops being used by it.

Although Michael didn't think it was ready for release some three years
ago and not a lot has changed in the library since then, it has being
used by these software in response to its usefulness and quality. I
don't know if Michael has reconsidered, but I'd like to know his opinion
as of now.

Yes I had plans for udns, but now I don't think I'll ever finish it.
Maybe, who knows, but well...

I'm watching another project, ldns, which is a base for unbound and nsd
nameservers (see www.unbound.net). It is much more adequate for today,
in my opinion anyway, than my attempt with udns. And almost as easy to
use as udns, but at the same time much more correct and also supports
DNSSEC out of the box.

Regarding the security issue, which Michael has already answered about
in his comments in the source code even before people have published
their exploit results and many servers had their code changed to make
them safer, I don't think udns requires any change.

All the (similar) security issues with stub resolvers w.r.t. on LANs
are real issues, unfortunately. Yes I added that famous comment to
the code explaining it (and it was interesting to re-read it today ;)
and noticed that it's very difficult to deal with the issue on LAN
with its speeds. On LAN, the only way to solve all the issues of this
sort is to use DNSSEC or IPSEC between a stub resolver and nearby
(on the LAN) recursive resolver, or better yet, between local (on
localhost) caching resolver and nearby (on LAN) recursive resolver.
As I mentioned earlier, ldns has DNSSEC support out of the box.

It's a stub resolver and many other stub resolvers have not changed
anything in response to the announcement of the increased possibility of
an attack. And stub resolvers should use secure servers in a secure
environment/network.

I think we could release some notes in README.Debian regarding this and
close this bug altogether and let udns move into squeeze and keep it
there for the release, allowing other packages to follow, including
jabberd2.

Given the fact that I did not update the code in all these years (oh
well)... I've nothing against including udns into Debian anymore.

The only concern I had is that I planned to change the API. But it
looks like it wont be done and better alternatives emerges.

Thanks!

/mjt

Thanks. I had a shot at building 2.1.4 with our 2.0.4 patch a few weeks ago,

This bug did not affect 1.0.18 because Ogg/Vorbis support was not
enabled at build time (missing Build-Depends). Hence, it is not
 a regression.

So it's something that affects only unstable. It's good
that this is clear.

Anyway, try to fix this bug, I see this in the various built logs:
  arm:
  Line 231: Actual SNR ( 0.0) target SNR (-31.0).

Arm we know about. Thats a code generator bug in the ARM gcc.

I was under the impression that was a different bug,
but the latest libsndfile was built against 1.2.0.dfsg-4,
and 1.2.0.dfsg-5 had the workaround of the gcc bug, so
that bug was still present with the last built.

Bug#536658: RFH: myspell-lv -- Latvian dictionary for Myspell

2009-07-12 Thread Martin-Éric Racine
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

We request assistance with maintaining the myspell-lv package.

The package description is:
This dictionary contains Latvian wordlists for the MySpell
spellchecker currently supported by Mozilla and OpenOffice,
plus a Latvian hyphenation pattern for OpenOffice.
 .
This dictionary is not complete yet, but it is the best
 free solution at this moment.

We currently have a situation where the lead maintainer, Aigars
Mahinovs, has significantly reduced his involvement in Debian,
with most of his packages slated for removal from the archive.

Meanwhile, I had offered to revamp the packaging and co-maintain
because of my passive interest for improving my Latvian but, not
being a native speaker, I have proven unable to fix Aspell build
errors that often creep in with each new upstream releases.

As such, we'd really appreaciate help from a native speaker to
maintain this package of Latvian myspell/aspell dictionaries.

support for the Juli@ ICE1724 based sound card. Installing from source does
install it correctly. This is consistant with several installations. The
install ends with no errors. aplay -l responds with no sound cards found.
 rebooting doesn't help.

To get support for ICE1724 out of 1.0.20 you have to install

Bug#536665: option to hard-block while network connection is down

2009-07-12 Thread martin f krafft
Package: sshfs
Version: 2.2-1
Severity: wishlist

It would be nice to have an option like NFS 'hard', which would
require 'reconnect' and basically causes all filesystem operations
to block until the connection to the remote is back. Right now, if
a connection is lost and cannot be re-established, there's an I/O error:

piper:~|master|mnt% ls -l
ls: cannot open directory .: Input/output error

In certain cases, it would be better if ls just didn't return until
the connection is back, or until it's interrupted.

Thanks,

Bug#536668: Accessing PHP-pages with lighttpd results in error 403 (forbidden)

2009-07-12 Thread Carsten Kosthorst
Package: lighttpd
Version: 1.4.23-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Hi,

since last update lighttpd always gives a 403 (forbidden) error with PHP-pages.
Additionally, static content - like jpegs or html files - are not served
correctly. I always get a download box when I try to access them.

Using lighttpd.conf.dpkg-dist as configuration did not help.

Bug#536667: Settings window in media player example is too wide

2009-07-12 Thread Torbjörn Andersson
Package: qt4-demos
Version: 4.5.2-1
Severity: minor

The Qt4 demos include a media player under the Demonstrations
category. If I launch this demo and open the settings dialog, it's much
wider than it should be. Probably about twice as wide as my screen.

I'm guessing that this is because the Audio device drop-down contains
not just the name of the audio device, but also its description. This
appears to be the relevant part of the example source code:

 // Insert audio devices:
 QListPhonon::AudioOutputDevice devices =
Phonon::BackendCapabilities::availableAudioOutputDevices();
 for (int i=0; idevices.size(); i++){
 QString itemText = devices[i].name();
 if (!devices[i].description().isEmpty()) {
 itemText += QString::fromLatin1(
(%1)).arg(devices[i].description());
 }
 ui-deviceCombo-addItem(itemText);
 if (devices[i] == m_AudioOutput.outputDevice())
 ui-deviceCombo-setCurrentIndex(i);
 }

In my case, the drop-down contains the following texts:

SBLive! Value (rev.8) Standard PCM Playback (htmlThis will try the
following devices and use the first that works: olliALSA:
x-phonon:CARD=0,DEV=0/liliALSA: plughw: CARD=0,DEV=0/liliOSS:
/dev/dsp/liliOSS: /dev/audio/li/ol/html)

PulseAudio (xine audio output plugin using pulseaudio sound server)

Jack Audio Connection Kid (htmlpJACK is a low-latency audio server.
It can connect a number of different applications to an audio device, as
well as allowing them to share audio between themselves./ppJACK was
designed from the ground up for professional audio work, and its design
focuses on two key areas: synchronous execution of all clients, and low
latency operation./p/html)

Esound (ESD) (xine audio output plugin using esound)

I don't know if this is a problem with the demo, or if some of the audio
devices are abusing the description field. The KDE 4 Multimedia - System
Settings dialog only lists the name (e.g. Jack Audio Connection Kit)
and uses the description for a tooltip, and I like that.

Sincerely,

Torbjörn Andersson

This is probably mainly a packaging error, since Commonwealth variants of

No, it's obviously not. If you looked at the source code
we just take the en_ZA.aff which is shipped together with en_ZA.dic.
If there is an error, it's in that dictionary in the code,
not in the packaging.

So it is a question of including the latest patched file also in the
 myspell-en-za package.

Aha. And why am I supposed to do that instead of filing that bug upstream
so they fix that for their next release?

Confirmed. Since nobody triggered bin-NMU yet, I reassign this bug on
libc6 to ensure it gets fixed soon (and does not migrate to testing). Same
for libvirt0.

Since nobody from debian-release/wanna-build seem to react quickly I
suggest you reupload with a Build-Conflicts: dpkg-dev (= 1.15.3) so
that we ensure that it will be built with 1.15.3.1.

This problem gets bigger everyday if we don't fix it soon, many packages
have wrong dependencies already.

Bug#532922: Surely gs-gpl and gs-esp should depend on ghostscript-cups?

2009-07-12 Thread Jonas Smedegaard

gs-esp or gs-gpl did not ever provide a working CUPS. So they should

believed to not even exist back when gs-esp and gs-gpl were real
 packages.

I agree that they should not depend on cups. However, in lenny, if I
remember correctly, installing cups and gs-esp/gpl was enough (for me)
to have a working cups system. Upgrading that system must not result
in a broken system: otherwise the upgrade process is broken!

You did not even have to install gs-{esp,gpl} as it would be pulled in
from cups (or cupsys, back in the days of multiple incarnations of gs).

I believe cups works properly today too.

I believe that *both* cups and ghostscript-cups packages have proper
dependencies. What you experienced was a case of running
testing/unstable:

   1) install cups + depends and recommends
   2) update cups - new recommends missing from the archive
   3) ignore new recommends when they emerge in the archive

That third step above is due to APT not being able to distinguish
between recommends explicitly ignored and those ignored due to being
missing at the time of installataion. Or at least that is my
understanding of the issue.

This is a fundamental limitation of the recommends mechanism, I believe,
i.e. will occur also for non-crucial parts of e.g. a gnome desktop
installation when installing from CD (not DVD) and without internet
access at the time of installation.

I believe it makes better sense to file a bug against APT about this
general issue than to work around it by excessive use of depends instead
of recommends.

Hope that clarifies,

Bug#362028: Found in lenny too

2009-07-12 Thread Robert Millan

Hi again,

I have a pair of question/comments.

On Tue, Jun 30, 2009 at 04:42:50PM +0100, Colin Watson wrote:

(IME installing GRUB as a secondary boot loader is a very common
request, particularly from people who've put a lot of effort into the
boot loader currently in their MBR and get upset when a new operating
system installation decides to trash it. I don't much like it myself as
a setup, but I think if we want other systems to play nicely with us
then it behooves us to put some effort into playing nicely with them, so
I wouldn't like to remove this option from the installer. The
grub2/os-prober setup looks as though it should work well for a lot of
people, but it *is* still a bit we can dual-boot as long as *I* run
things :-), and not everyone likes that.)

I understand that; we will continue to support this option, even if
technically it's a mess to support it, as long as there's significant
user demand for it. I would prefer if it was discouraged as much as
possible, though.

Users get upset when an installer replaces their MBR without asking for
permission, but there's nothing wrong with asking for permission and then
doing it IMHO. Users who install to PBR's don't usually understand all
the problems associated with choosing this option (and later they come
to us, complaining their GRUB install just broke).

Ironically, the problem is with GRUB's use of a couple of functions that
 have this comment above them:

/* Linux-only functions, because Linux has a bug that the disk cache for
a whole disk is not consistent with the one for a partition of the
  disk. */

Unfortunately, these are used in a way that precisely arranges to run
into the fact that the buffer caches for two file descriptors open on
/dev/sda and /dev/sda1 are not necessarily coherent! GRUB opens
/dev/sda, caches that file descriptor, and then (as part of embed_func)
opens /dev/sda1 and writes the stage 1.5 to that. install_func then uses
the cached file descriptor that's still open on /dev/sda and tries to
read the stage 1.5 back from it. Since the caches aren't coherent, this
fails in the way that's being observed.

The simple fix is to call the BLKFLSBUF ioctl on any cached file
descriptor open on the disk device after writing to the partition
device. The attached patch (to be installed in
debian/patches/cache_coherency.diff, with the obvious additional entry
at the end of debian/patches/00list) does this.

I don't understand this. If BLKFLSBUF flushes the partition buffer, doesn't
this make the problem go away completely? Then why is the Linux-specific
code not removed?

(if your aim was to make the patch as unintrusive as possible, I agree it's
a good idea for GRUB Legacy, but I need to know about this for GRUB 2)

I haven't yet tested whether GRUB 2 suffers from the same problem, but
 will do so.

Please let me know about it.

 OK

There's no need to put DROP rules in nat chains, since they don't do
any filtering. (That's why iptables doesn't support DROP there any
more.) The attached patch corrects the problem.

Bug#532922: ghostscript-cups only recommends cups since 8.64~dfsg-13

2009-07-12 Thread Jonas Smedegaard
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA512

Hi,

Thanks to your earlier comment in this bug, Martin I discovered a bug in
the packaging of ghostscript-cups, and it now behaves as intended: It
only recommends (not depends on) cups.

I agree with your other point, though: cups really should only recommend
ghostscript-cups (even if it now does _not_ create_ circular dependency
to tighten up).

So now cups _can_ depend on ghostscript-cups, but still _shouldn't_.

Till Kamppeter mentioned in some email that it might make sense for cups
raster backends to depend on ghostscript-cups.

Perhaps it make sense to reopen this bug and track that closely related
issue here?

Kind regards,

  - Jonas

Bug#536681: lighttpd: include_shell include_conf_enabled.pl not working anymore

2009-07-12 Thread Jeremy Lal
Package: lighttpd
Version: 1.4.23-2
Severity: important

Starting from a pristine /etc/lighttpd folder,
enabling userdir does not work.
I tested putting userdir config stanzas directly into
/etc/lighttpd/lighttpd.conf
just after the include_shell ... and it loads userdir properly.
I also verified that the include_conf_enabled.pl script generates
a correct listing, here it gives :
 perl /usr/share/lighttpd/include-conf-enabled.pl
include conf-enabled/10-userdir.conf

So i guess there's something broken with include_shell ?
It was working ok in lighttpd 1.4.22.

Bug#526188: problem seems to be solved

2009-07-12 Thread Alexander Dahl
Hi,

when cleaning my mail inbox I noticed this open bug report. I don't have
100% CPU load with anymore since several weeks now. I think the update
of libqca2-plugin-gnupg to version 2.0.0~beta3-1 solved this issue. I
think the bug can be closed.

the scripts in /usr/share/lighttpd/

i don't understand why the 1.4.23 install did not correct this ?
debian/rules correctly set the permissions on those files.

2009/7/12 Luke Cycon lcy...@gmail.com:
As of recently, Facebook changed their server's layout thereby breaking
support for pidgin-facebookchat's buddy icon system.

After being troubleshooted upstream by myself and another user, we have
 fixed the problem.

Attached is a dpatch patch to fix this.
Sorry it is not a quit patch, but I don't know how to use quilt ;)

I am running testing with pidgin-facebookchat installed from unstable.

I've just tested the patch in Ubuntu karmic and it doesn't work I'm
afraid. The package I've built included the patch may be found at:

The source of which may be found at:

Patch is included as: debian/patches/02_fix_facebook_changes_to_icons.diff

Thanks for spotting this and suggesting a patch, I'm not sure what
could be wrong with it...

I have now switched to a locally rebuilt package that has Václav's
openssh.ssh_selinux_getctxbyname.uninit.patch in it, and that's working as
expected.

I'm raising this bug's severity to reflect the fact that has been
encountered by multiple users in rather normal configurations. As the fix is
straightforward, I would appreciate it if it were incorporated in the next
update of the openssh package.

Kind regards,

I had been using the very unofficial/unsupported pre-packages of KDE
4, but never installed any manually built packages (as I found KDE to be
a bit of a pain to build and install anyway). At some point, one of the
core packages must have left behind e.g. a configuration file that
subsequently broke the HTTP kioslave. It must have been something in the
/usr hierarchy, since I didn't touch anything else.

So to clarify, I uninstalled packages related to KDE until the kde4
structure in /usr/share didn't contain any more files recognized by dpkg
-S, and then deleted the rest. After reinstallation, everything was back
to normal.

Bug#536685: mode to allow ad-hoc daemon and plain-text transfer

2009-07-12 Thread martin f krafft
Package: rsync
Version: 3.0.6-1
Severity: wishlist

As detailed in section USING RSYNC-DAEMON FEATURES VIA
A REMOTE-SHELL CONNECTION in the manpage, it is possible to use
daemon features with a remote-shell connection. The way this seems
to work is that the daemon is started via the remote-shell
connection, then the data are transferred *via the remote-shell
tunnel*, and the daemon is taken down at the end of it all.

It would be nice if, in case rsync is used to transfer non-sensitive
data, or data that is already encrypted, this sort of ad-hoc setup
could be used to create a dynamic rsync protocol connection: instead
of via the remote-shell tunnel, the data travels directly between
client and daemon process via the TCP stack.

I envision it as follows:

  rsync -a -e ssh --dynport host::module /dest

This would cause rsync to

  1. spawn an ssh connection to host
  2. start rsync --daemon there, using a dynamically allocated port
  3. communicate that port back to the client
  4. the client now connects to that port using the rsync protocol
  5. it reads 'module' and rsynchronises with /dest
  6. it terminates the daemon process
  7. it closes the ssh connection
  8. it exits

This is obviously all possible to do with a shell script, but having
all of this integrated with rsync would make it a whole lot more
robust.

Bug#536378: Allow filtering rc bugs in a useful manner

ah, IC what I've done wrong. Still, the filter possibilies are far

(Just to point out here, because I've seen it crop up in a lot of
recent mails, formular is not an english word. I'm guessing user
interface or similar is what is meant, but it's definetly not clear.)

indeed, the proper word is 'form'.

IMHO it has the following flaws:

  - It requires to query the 'database' several times before I get the
wanted result
  - It requires more steps as neccessary on the user side
  - It is really unintuitive that I have to submit a query in order to set
a filter.
  - I need to spell out the severity grades, which is uncomfortable and
errorprone

All of these are done that way just because it was simpler to
implement, and a more complex implementation requires javascript. So
yes, these flaws are known and remain present because of my limited
 time.

So as a better solution I'd suggest to make at least the severity
  grades checkboxes.

Not possible without javascript and a much more complex setup. [And it
certainly wouldn't be checkboxes either; it'd have to be a selection
 menu.]

The reason why it has to have javascript (or pretty complex css) is
because the possible options that can be selected depends on the state
of the selection menu on the left. Patches accepted to implement this,
 of course.

Hu? Why does selecting severity grades depend on the selection menu on
the left? IMHO its a choice on its one, which can certainly be
implemented without using javascript. Its not that it have to be part of
the dropdown box, you already have.

Feel free to file a bug against debbugs asking for the ability to
filter on bugs which have a filled or unfilled done field.

Why don't you just clone/reassign this ticket? ;)

Bug#497153: Upstream lost interest

2009-07-12 Thread أحمد المحمودي
Hello,

I found your git-bzr package on mentors. So I used it I found a bug
in the user-correct-paths patch you added: bzr fast-export does not
work, so I replaced that with bzr-fast-export to work correctly.

Anyways, when I checked the upstream site (at github), I found that
the upstream mentioned in his last commit that he is no more
interested in working on git-bzr. That's from the README:

NOTE: I really mean what I say here above -- I'm no longer interested
in this program. Take it as it is, or look at one of the forks on
github (there are two that have converted the script to bash, if you
  prefer that).

You can find the other forks at: http://github.com/pieter/git-bzr/network

Bug#532922: ghostscript-cups only recommends cups since 8.64~dfsg-13

 Hi,

Thanks to your earlier comment in this bug, Martin I discovered a bug in
the packaging of ghostscript-cups, and it now behaves as intended: It

I agree with your other point, though: cups really should only recommend
ghostscript-cups (even if it now does _not_ create_ circular dependency
 to tighten up).

So now cups _can_ depend on ghostscript-cups, but still _shouldn't_.

Till Kamppeter mentioned in some email that it might make sense for cups
raster backends to depend on ghostscript-cups.

Perhaps it make sense to reopen this bug and track that closely related
 issue here?

I think separate bugs need opening against all the raster
backends without the ghostscript-cups dependency. You
can then make this bug block on them all.

stardic-common alone installs fine, so I file this bug against stardic.

stardic has been split up in stardic and stardic-common starting with
version 1.3.1-5, but the latter does not declare the necessary relations
to the stardic package before the split. The attached patch addresses
this problem.

Bug#375138: (no subject)

2009-07-12 Thread Iain Lane
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hello,

I want to present a slightly different usecase for this bug in the hope
that you will consider reopening it.

With this issue open, uscan cannot retrieve older (not current)
upstream releases of packages where they are stored in a
subdirectory-per-release layout, see [0] for my specific example with
the watchfile line [1].

We are trying to create a script for the pkg-haskell team which
downloads a source package as specified in our VCS repository. This may
not necessarily be the latest upstream version and additionally may not
be uploaded to Debian so could not be available on the archive mirrors
either. This script works by calling uscan with --download-version.

Perhaps a solution is to cause --download-version to descend into the
specified directory if it exists instead of always selecting the newest
one. This could be a separate feature request, then?

I hope you will consider implementing this feature.

Regards,
Iain

Bug#517748: linux-image-2.6.26-1-686 System locks up under heavy disk load (MD Resync e.g.)

2009-07-12 Thread Rudi Daemen
Giulio,

I am not using the VIA boards IDE/SATA controller, only a PCI based
HostRaid controller from promise. The onboard controller is actually a
SATA and IDE controller: I just set it up to not use SATA due to boot
problems with the Promise card if the onboard SATA support is enabled.

As of today, none of the kernel updates to date have fixed the issue,
I'm currently searching for a decent alternative for the promise
controller (Non-RAID, 4 port PCI-SATA controller) and intend to replug
the softraid arrays to that controller. I will post follow-ups once I
have replaced it.

Regards,

Rudi

Bug#536695: ITP: pod2pdf -- converts Perl Old Documentation to PDF

2009-07-12 Thread Steffen Moeller
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Steffen Moeller steffen_moel...@gmx.de

* Package name: pod2pdf
  Version : 0.42
* URL : http://search.cpan.org/dist/pod2pdf/
* License : Artistic-2.0
  Programming Lang: Perl
Description : converts Perl Old Documentation to PDF

The package represents more than a mere alternative
to pod2man|groff -man to achieve a coversion from POD
to PostScript and from there via ps2pdf to PDF.
The main advantage lies in the inclusion of images
for the documentation. This renders POD suitable for
many smallish projects as a lingua fraca for their
documentation - associated with the source and separate
documents - so texts (and graphics) can be shared more
 easily between documenters and programmers.

Bug#527546: python-pycurl: Fatal Python error: pycurl: libcurl link-time version is older than compile-time version

2009-07-12 Thread Samuel Bronson
I see that you upped the dependency for version 7.19.0-1, but from the
error message, it really seems that you really need to calculate the
minimum version from the version of libcurl-dev. Looking at the source
confirms this: pycurl really does check that the loaded version of
libcurl is at least as new as the version it believes it was built
with.

The code that checks this starts at
http://pycurl.cvs.sourceforge.net/viewvc/pycurl/pycurl/src/pycurl.c?revision=1.147view=markup#l_3886

So, while the problem may not appear in version 7.19.0-1, it's really
still there until you start programatically generating the dependancy
such that it always matches the LIBCURL_VERSION with which pycurl is
built.

Bug#536374: packages.debian.org: Update: package now visible again, but copyright file still missing on p.d.o

2009-07-12 Thread Kai Wasserbäch
Dear debian-www Maintainers,
I'm not sure whether you did anything specific or the system righted itself
somehow. In any case Skanlite is now back on packages.debian.org. Still missing
though (at the time of this writing) is the copyright file, clicking on the
respective link results in an HTTP 404. Therefore I keep this bug open (actually
I'm not sure the cause for this problem has been addressed so it might be a good
idea to keep the bug open anyway).

thank you in advance for looking into this.

Kind regards,
Kai Wasserbäch

If you run debgtd, change the email address guessed from

It would be good to be able to load up existing data w/o
