Bug#597672: rmt broken by the security fix in 1.20-1+lenny1 version of tar

According to the changelog, the latest version of tar package in
lenny replaced rmt source with the one from paxutils for
security reasons. Unfortunately, it also made it impossible to
 use tar and rmt together.

Have you tried using a tar 1.23 version? The rmt version I used for
1.20-1+lenny1 is the one that's shipping in the current tar source
tree. So, I'd like to understand whether there's something about
fresher versions of tar that causes them to work better with rmt, or if
this is a general upstream problem with the rmt in tar at this point.

Good. Until konqueror issue is solved, you could use other browsers that
support NPAPI plugin (iceweasel, epiphany, galeon, chromium, ...).

Regarding konqueror, we need to investigate further.
I've never used konqueror and as far as I can see there are 2 ways:
 a) mozilla-plugin-gnash (now browser-plugin-gnash) + konqueror-nsplugins
that makes konqueror work with NPAPI plugin like mozilla-plugin-gnash.
 b) konqueror-plugin-gnash based on kparts.

I've tried both and in both cases it doesn't work:
 (a) gave me a crash nspluginviewer closed unexpectly
 (b) considers youtube movies as AVM2 clips so it can't play them.

You could try both too but I don't expect better results.

I have been using konqueror-plugin-gnash successfully for several years. As I
mentioned in earlier posts, gnash plays youtube videos perfectly in Konqueror
when the cookies are blocked. It doesn't seem that the problem is with the
Konqueror plugin, but instead with how gnash interacts with the cookies stored
in Konqueror.

Regarding your nspluginviewer closed unexpectly error, that appears to be a
separate issue. I have never had that problem before.

do you get the same problems if you also upgrade spine from the lenny version

if upgrading to the squeeze version of spine doesn't solve the problem,
you could also try updating to the latest upstream version (i.e. compiling

to believe that the latest version is so different from the squeeze/sid

This means that anything which called sudo and expected HOME to stay

I suggest that HOME be added to env_keep by default; the attached
trivial patch does one implementation of this.

This approach breaks the definition of -i as pointed out in one of the
followups to #596847 .. so I'm not sure it's really the right thing to do.

Hrm; right.

It would be pretty easy to change this so that home was keep by
default, but was reset when called with -i.

I think the right behavior should really be something like this:

1) -i or -H or always_set_home - HOME is the home of the target
user, no matter what env_keep says

2) HOME in env_keep (default) - HOME is the home of the calling user

3) HOME not in env_keep (env_keep -= HOME) - HOME is the
   home of the target user

I can write a patch for this behavior if that makes sense to you.

Hi, I got the backtrace, I attached it, but in the course of doing this, I
installed brasero-cdrkit after rebuilding all the packages with debug
symbols enabled, I didn't have that installed before, and with that
installed the crash does not happen. So I guess this may be related to the
other bugs caused by not having brasero-cdrkit installed. I guess you'll
decided if you want to leave this open as a separate bug.

(Might as well just make it a dependency)

Bug#597598: menu-l10n: First round of French translation

2010-09-22 Thread Christian PERRIER
Quoting Bill Allombert (bill.allomb...@math.u-bordeaux1.fr):

 1) Longtitle are alternative to title, not complement, so the longtitle
 should stand alone
 without the title:

 #: package barrage, field longtitle:
msgid Barrage - a rather violent action game
 msgstr jeu d'action plutôt violent

 This should probably be:
msgstr Barrage - jeu d'action plutôt violent

Ah, bleh. I was more thinking that longtitle would be a complement to
the short title than being potentially shown alone. Hence the design
choice you noticed.

I'll need to fix that in the done translations, then.

 2) The title are normally sorted in alphabetic order. This means that the
 first word of
the translation determine the new position in the menu. Since English and
 French usually
have opposite word order, this generally lead to different first word. I do
 not know how
much of a problem it is in practice.

 I will give two example:

 #: package abiword, field title:
 msgid AbiWord Word Processor
 msgstr Traitement de texte Abiword

Someone looking for Abiword might search for an entry starting with A and not
 find it.
(but of course someone looking for Word Processor might miss AbiWord in the
 original version).

Sure. IN that case, we might need to settle for an ugly Abiword
traitement de texte. Ugly, indeed. Abiword: traitement de texte?

The second example is when the first word is used to group entries together:

 #: package airport-utils, field longtitle:
msgid AirPort Base Station Host Monitor
msgstr Surveillance d'hôte de station de base Airport

 #: package airport-utils, field longtitle:
msgid AirPort Extreme Base Station Port Inspector
msgstr Surveillance d'hôte de station de base Airport Extreme

 #: package airport-utils, field longtitle:
msgid AirPort Extreme Base Station IP Inspector
msgstr Analyseur IP de station de base Airport Extreme

Well, here again, I only see an ugly Airport Extreme : truc machin.

Also I found some typo (tr/[ea]/[ae])

  #: package abook, field longtitle:
  msgid Address Book
  msgstr Cernet d'adresses

  #: package bacula-console-qt, field title:
  msgid Bacula qtConsole
  msgstr Console Qt de Bacule

Severity: normal

On Sept 7th, after a discussion with the RT, represented by Adam, I
uploaded samba 3.5.4 to unstable.

Adam suggested that we upload and then come back in a couple of weeks
time to check the situation.

In the meantime, upstream samba got a security release that lead to
the upload of 2:3.5.5~dfsg-1 in unstable.

Despite an attempt to upload samba 3.4.9 in t-p-u (to replace
testing's 3.4.8 with the same security fix), we've been hit by a dak
bug that rejects t-p-u uploads when a higher version is not built in
unstable for one architecture.so, until this is fixed we have no
other way to fix testing than allowing 3.5.5 to enter it (assuming
that all builds will happen).

No RC or even important bugs have been reported against 3.5.4 and
3.5.5 in this 2-weeks time.

So, it's seems about time to ask for this:

On my 16bpp screen it looks like from the top every line is moving 1

One difference is that the Suse file has even dimensions, while the
Debian one has an odd horizontal size.

So I opened the Debian one in Gimp, resized it to 550x336x24, and saved
it again, and that seems to solve it - looks perfect on 16bpp now.

Just to make sure Gimp didn't do anything else to the image, I also
reopened the original and saved it again without changing the
dimensions, but that still shows a distorted image.

So could it be caused by the odd horizontal size of the image?

Hello Adam,

Adam Heath [2010-09-21 15:40 -0500]:
 I just upgraded postgres-8.4 from 8.4.4-1+b1 to 8.4.4-2. This
removed the separate postgresql-8.4 init script, and replaced it
with a common one. Previously, postgresql-8.4 would start at S19.

Ah, sorry about that. I'll move the common one back to 19 then.

I have postgresql listed as Should-Start in ofbiz's initscript.
However, init dependencies are not active, so normal number based
 ordering is used.

I. e. you removed insserv? I thought that was the (pretty much
mandatory) default in Squeeze now.

Thanks,

Yes...but a recent netinst image is using a quite old D-I release (D-I

Is there something in the installation logs that could be useful? For

Bug#597683: ITP: ukopp -- Full and incremental backup to disk or disk-like device

2010-09-22 Thread Alessio Treglia
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Alessio Treglia ales...@debian.org

* Package name: ukopp
  Version : 3.8
Upstream Author : Michael Cornelison korne...@yahoo.de
* URL : http://kornelix.squarespace.com/ukopp/
* License : GPL
  Programming Lang: C
Description : Full and incremental backup to disk or disk-like device

Ukopp is used to copy or back-up disk files to a disk or disk-like device,
such as a USB stick. It copies only new or modified files since the last
backup, and is therefore quite fast. A GUI is used to navigate the file
system to include or exclude files or directories at any level. These
choices can be saved in a job file for repeated use. New files appearing
within the included directories are handled automatically. Optionally,
previous versions of the backup files can be retained instead of being
overwritten. Files can be selectively restored using a GUI. Ownership
and permissions are also restored, even if the target device uses a
Microsoft file system.

Hi,

In squeeze, cron is a lot more verbose when a job finishes with error.

I have a lot of servers which have backupninja installed by default but
don't have a job configured because they still don't need it (backupninja
is always installed by a server template). The result, hourly cron spam
from a good number of servers.

This would probably fix it for me.

related to the other bugs caused by not having brasero-cdrkit
installed. I guess you'll decided if you want to leave this open as a
 separate bug.

No. The brasero-cdrkit package uses Schilling code that needs to go
away.

I’m interested in the backtrace *without* brasero-cdrkit installed,
instead.

Bug#597672: rmt broken by the security fix in 1.20-1+lenny1 version of tar

2010-09-22 Thread Dennis Vshivkov
On Wed, Sep 22, 2010 at 12:15:47AM -0600, Bdale Garbee wrote:

According to the changelog, the latest version of tar
package in lenny replaced rmt source with the one from
paxutils for security reasons. Unfortunately, it also made
it impossible to use tar and rmt together.

Have you tried using a tar 1.23 version? The rmt version I
used for 1.20-1+lenny1 is the one that's shipping in the
current tar source tree. So, I'd like to understand whether
there's something about fresher versions of tar that causes
them to work better with rmt, or if this is a general
upstream problem with the rmt in tar at this point.

I hadn't before. I have just tried using rmt binary from tar
1.23-2.1 (squeeze). It's just as broken as the one in
1.20-1+lenny1. Using it with tar binary from the same version
of the package doesn't help either, naturally.

My bad, I misinterpreted the 1.20-1+lenny1 changelog entry,
somehow thinking that taking paxutils rmt was a Debian-specific
way of the security fix. It indeed seems a tar upstream
problem.

However, I also found out that rmt in the paxutils upstream has
been altered a week ago to fix the buffering of stdout (but not
debug output) and parsing of the `mode' argument of `O' command.

(I found that out from Debian bug #587702, reporting essentially
the same as the one I posted, albeit with no patches. I should
have found it first and added to it instead of posting a new
report, another bad of mine...)

So, Debian Lenny version of tar package can wait for the updated
rmt to get from paxutils upstream to tar upstream, and then
reimport it, or reimport the updated rmt directly from paxutils
upstream, or just outright apply the fixes like mine or the one
referred to in #587702.

Cheers,

Hm sounds odd and I can't reproduce it here.
Just cleared my .lyx directory and I've only texlive-fonts-recommended

I tried several pdf export options dvipdfm, pdflatex and ps2pdf. All work fine

Could you please attach the ~./lyx/configure.log for the setup where the

Bug#597685: Failing OSS4 driver makes recovery difficult

2010-09-22 Thread Heikki Lindholm

Package: oss4-base
Version: 4.2-build2003-1

If an OSS4 driver kills the kernel, recovery is difficult for the casual
user, because OSS4 is loaded even in single user mode (recovery). I'd
suggest moving OSS4 init out of rcS.d, of course, considering that some
later loaded sound server might like to have the audio drivers available.

Bug#531546: Bug #531546: empty graphs due to 'A DB Exec Failed' Poller[0] ERROR

some ideas/questions off the top of my head:
  * did you get any sql upgrade errors after the package was updated?

There were no sql upgrade scripts from 0.8.7e-4 to 0.8.7g-1. The
upgrade says clearly that there are no scripts to run. I've checked
manually in the install directory and these two scripts are just
changing the cacti vesion in the database:
- 0_8_7e_to_0_8_7f.php
- 0_8_7f_to_0_8_7g.php

  * does the schema seem correct (i.e. a disabled column in the host table)?

I don't know anything related to a 'schema', so probably not the
issue. If you can tell me what to check, I'll do.

  * does it work if you disable the spine poller and use the cmd.php one
   instead?

Yes, with 'cmd.php' I get the graphs but still at every 5 minutes
there are SQL errors reported (see attached).
No, with 'spine' I still get the SQL errors but also only NaN on all graphs.

  * does it start graphing again if you nuke the rrd files or play around
   with rrdtool versions?

I'll try to avoid playing around with rrdtool again. I did it for the
conversion from 1.2x to 1.3x and this is the main reason I'm using
cacti from squeeze on a lenny host.

esp for the first two items, if you suspect the problem is in the SQL,
and have time to help with some QA: i think it would be very helpful to
get a db dump of a fresh install vs the db dump of a almost-as-fresh
install of the previous version upgraded after maybe half an hour of
polling... it could be that there's a bug in the update sql logic.

I'll try to do a fresh install, but I don't I'll have the time this week.

I didn't upgrade spine because I'll have to upgrade mysql too (and
probably other packages from backports). The weird thing about these
SQL errors is that running them manually gives no error but sometimes
there are no results returned from the query.

if upgrading to the squeeze version of spine doesn't solve the problem,
you could also try updating to the latest upstream version (i.e. compiling
it yourself and replacing the packaged version), but i haven't been lead
to believe that the latest version is so different from the squeeze/sid
 version.

There are near zero chances of compiling it myself. I'll probably try
a fresh install on a squeeze host with cacti and spine =0.8.7e. Until
them I'll stick with cacti=0.8.7e-4.

 Hi James,

Hi Tim

I last looked at hudson at DebConf, and got hung up on some licensing
 issues for the build dependencies.

I've not looked at licensing of dependencies yet; any information that
you have would be interesting to review.

I'd welcome any help/ideas you can offer - I'm still making use of
hudson at work, but obviously want to get it properly packaged. I'm
not sure what the best approach is at this point - I think getting it
all to build from source is quite an important feature.

Build from source would be a great objective, but does not look that
achievable; I have concerns re complexity of packaging - I particularly
enjoyed the list of dependencies and the patching applied to them :-).
I also think that the frequency of releases could also be hard to keep
up with; I've been doing some work automating the Ubuntu Server ISO
testing process over the last two weeks using Hudson and I've been
upgraded at least twice!

If we take this approach, we also need to consider how we package
plugins as well - these are downloaded and installed directly from
within the tool so won't conform to policy that well.

I have started to document my initial work/thoughts here
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/JavaTeam/HudsonDependencies

I'm aiming to take a Feature Spec for Ubuntu to UDS-N in October as I
know that Hudson is being used by a number of teams on the project and
that it would make a great addition to both Debian and Ubuntu in the
long term.

If the build from source objective is not achievable, what are the
options for Debian in terms of binary packaging?

Regards

James

Bug#215757: ppmtowinicon: allow PPM as alpha mask

2010-09-22 Thread Antonio Ospite
Hi,

Very old issue, but let's see if I can add something useful to the
discussion.

ppmtowinicon relies only on grayscale images (PGM, or PBM as a
particular case of PGM) as alpha masks because it is easier to make
assumption about what the transparent and opaque areas are going to be
in this case (white color means opaque, non-white means transparent); if
you use a color image as alpha mask what color do you take as the
transparent area? In your example, by running ppmtopgm you are actually
adding the assumption that the white color is meant to be the opaque
area, well, it is not so trivial in general.
Using grayscale images for alpha masks makes sense because it is easy.

FWIW I think this bug can be closed as well.

Regards,
   Antonio

There were no sql upgrade scripts from 0.8.7e-4 to 0.8.7g-1. The
upgrade says clearly that there are no scripts to run.

This is all that the upgrade process gives:

##
Cacti Installation Guide

Upgrade results:
No SQL queries have been executed.
##

Thanks

This is a bummer as I had a panel full of graphs under KDE3.

Bug#597686: ppmtowinicon: add -truetransparent option from recent upstream

2010-09-22 Thread Antonio Ospite
Package: netpbm
Version: 2:10.0-12.2+b1
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

recently upstream has added the -truetransparent option to ppmtowinicon which
is quite useful when you create icons with transparency starting from png
images.

The man page (http://netpbm.sourceforge.net/doc/ppmtowinicon.html) describes
that, by making black the part of the image which is going to be transparent
one avoids the reverse video effect in the transparent area, you can see this
effect in Windows when you click on the object which shows with that icon.

Maybe updating to recent upstream can be done tool by tool incrementally?

Thanks,

I would appreciate, if possible, if the error message would contain a bit
more information abou what conflicts witch what, how, so at least we could
look around in status files or repositories, checking for abnormal dependencies
for example.

Bug#595023: doesn't seem to support multiple bind addresses

2010-09-22 Thread Luca Tettamanti
Package: apt-cacher-ng
Version: 0.2.2-2
Severity: normal

Just hit this bug :s
The problem is in the perl script
(/usr/lib/apt-cacher-ng/expire-caller.pl), in the part where it parses
the configuration files.

It parses each line into key+value pairs:

  ($key, $value) = split(/\s*:\s*/);

And then builds the map:

  $cfg{$key}=$value;

BindAddress might list more than one value in the value part, but the
script treats it like a single string - which is likely an invalid
hostname.
The address is used to contact the daemon (conTcp), so in this case it
should be acceptable to add a special case to use only the first address
listed.

Bug#597688: g-d-u: [PATCH] Add notification for degraded RAID arrays

Hi,

The attached patch for gdu-notification-daemon enables notifications for
degraded (Linux MD) RAID arrays (the patch is 4-5 lines + reindent).

It piggybacks on the existing SMART notification; it's a stop-gap until
upstream refactors gdu-notification-daemon and implements proper, detailed
notifications for (Linux MD) RAID arrays.

Patch has been tested and works.

Well, for binary packages, there's the non-free archive, which isn't
really considered part of Debian. DFSG #2 requires source code, and
there are other practical reasons (i.e. security patches).

In the worst case, we could package up the patched dependencies under
a different name. To deal with the rapid pace of upstream
development, there is always the option of not uploading every point
release. Obviously these are not ideal solutions, but we should be
able to get something together and on the mirrors.

Bug#597527: qemu -enable-kvm substantially slower than kvm

 Package: qemu

I tried to install the new qemu 0.13.

Replacing kvm with qemu -enable-kvm in my vm invocation lead to
substantially slower vm and much higher CPU use both in gues and host.

 Running Windows XP guest.

This is something expected, as not all the features of KVM (in-kernel
irqchip in that case) have been merged into qemu.

This is not really a bug, and a wontfix until it is merged upstream.

Yes, I noticed that after sending the email .. sigh. I've done an
upload of tar to unstable with this and a couple other bug fixes, please
give it a try if you can and let me know if it solves your problem. If
it does, then I'll find time to patch the lenny version with the same

Bug#597676: [Pkg-lyx-devel] Bug#597676: [lyx] Export to PDF requires texlive-fonts-extra package

2010-09-22 Thread Brendon Higgins

  output option listed. You don't need to be writing any special document;
a new default article behaves the same. To get the File-Export-PDF (*)
options you have to install texlive-fonts-extra, and then tell LyX it
  exists by doing a Tools-Reconfigure.

Hm sounds odd and I can't reproduce it here.
Just cleared my .lyx directory and I've only texlive-fonts-recommended
 installed and everything works fine.
I tried several pdf export options dvipdfm, pdflatex and ps2pdf. All work
 fine here.

I've just noticed that after closing and reopening LyX, the PDF export options
don't stay. Each time, I can run Reconfigure and the PDF options reappear (as
well as DVI and Postscript options). All the files in .lyx are u+rw, though -
there doesn't seem to be any reason why it would do this.

Strangely, I've now tried purging the fonts-extra package and after I run
Reconfigure, the PDF options show in the export menu anyway (but don't stay
there after I close LyX). I know I ran Reconfigure, without success, before I
tried installing fonts-extra.

Well, maybe the package triggers caused regeneration of some files that made
LyX happier. :-/

Could you please attach the ~./lyx/configure.log for the setup where the
 export did not work?

Attached. This is when I ran it before installing texlive-fonts-extra. I've
checked and it's identical to the configure.log after purging fonts-extra. Also
attached is the configure.log when texlive-fonts-extras is installed.

Brendon

Bug#597690: akregator: crashes from time to time

2010-09-22 Thread Wolfram Quester
Package: akregator
Version: 4:4.4.6-1
Severity: important

Application: akregator (1.6.5)
KDE Platform Version: 4.4.5 (KDE 4.4.5)
Qt Version: 4.6.3
Operating System: Linux 2.6.35-trunk-amd64 x86_64
Distribution: Debian GNU/Linux unstable (sid)

Hi,

I tried to report this upstream, also but drkonqi fails due to clashes in
bug.kde.org's certificates :-(
Since this also affects the usability of the package in debian, I decided to
report it also against the debian package.

From time to time akregator crashes with the attached backtrace. I don't have a
clue of how to reproduce the bug properly. It happens if the window is active or
not, suddenly the crash handler pops up. As
http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=190068 suggests it happens while fetching
feeds.
Since it then also forgets its state (which feeds/article is alredy read)
recovery is cumbersome.

With best wishes,

Wolfi

Bug#597691: xfdesktop4: Not remembering configured desktop background image correctly

2010-09-22 Thread Frank Lanitz
Package: xfdesktop4
Version: 4.6.2-1+b1
Severity: normal

It appears that the desktop is not remembering desktop background
image correctly on loading time. I always getting a generic desktop
background, but when entering the configuration dialog the image is
still chosen as well as changing to another image and back is bringing
up the wished image again.

To be honest I didn't had the chance to look deeper whether I can find
any issues, but if you can give me a hint where to look I will do.

Bug#597693: hylafax-server: Missing dependency on mawk

2010-09-22 Thread Christoph Weber
Package: hylafax-server
Version: 2:4.4.4-10.1
Severity: important

I tried to install the package and the post-install script exited with
an error:

| FATAL ERROR: /usr/bin/mawk does not exist or is not an executable program!
|
| The file:
|
| /usr/bin/mawk
|
| does not exist or this file is not an executable program. The HylaFAX
| software expects this program to exist and be in this location. If the
| program resides in a different location then you must either reconfigure
| and rebuild HylaFAX or override the default pathnames in the distributed
| software through one of the HylaFAX configuration files (consult the
| HylaFAX documentation).

I don't have the mawk package installed, but using the gawk package
instead. I believe the package should depend on mawk to avoid the
error.

I tried to symlink my gawk binary as mawk and the installation seems to
work now. Maybe it's a good idea to depend on the virtual package awk
and fix the setup script to use the available awk variant.

Bug#597652: redmine: In some contexts accented characters don't display correctly

2010-09-22 Thread J . Tóth Gábor
Hi Jérémy,

I usually use Opera on WinXP but I occasionally cross-check things on
Iceweasel or Epiphany on Debian.

I tried setting the Encoding to UTF-8 (from automatic) but it did not help.

I also tried creating a task with one of these problem characters in its
title and descriptor and it showed the same problem.

BTW: I think not remaining the role names may be The Right Thing, as these
names could be customized anyway.

Which browser do you use when you change the role name ?
Could you check you are viewing the page in UTF-8 ?
I tested Magyar language on my local install, and noticed :
 1) roles stayed in the default install language (another bug...)
 2) if i renamed a role to Vezető the display was ok.

  Hi, Jérémy,

I don't think this has much to do with the language files.
I looked into it and it looks OK. In addition, I tried to edit one
of the effected strings (role names), and it doesn't work: if I
rename the role name Vezet? to Vezető, if changes back to Vezet?.

If I rename it to Vezetö (all characters present in Latin-1),
  it succeeds.

On a further move, I looked into the mysql table that seems to hold
this information, and the information in there is incorrect already:

  mysql select name from roles;

I'm rather novice in mysql tuning so I haven't got much
  further then
  this (yet).

Bug#597695: guile-1.8-doc-non-dfsg: string-join documentation does not specify default delimiter

2010-09-22 Thread Colin Watson
Package: guile-1.8-doc-non-dfsg
Version: 1.8.7+1-1
Severity: minor

The string-join documentation in 'info guile-1.8' is as follows:

-- Scheme Procedure: string-join ls [delimiter [grammar]]
 -- C Function: scm_string_join (ls, delimiter, grammar)
Append the string in the string list LS, using the string DELIM as
a delimiter between the elements of LS. GRAMMAR is a symbol which
specifies how the delimiter is placed between the strings, and
 defaults to the symbol `infix'.

`infix'
Insert the separator between list elements. An empty string
  will produce an empty list.

`string-infix'
Like `infix', but will raise an error if given the empty list.

`suffix'
Insert the separator after every list element.

`prefix'
Insert the separator before each list element.

This left me wondering what the default delimiter was; I could tell it
was a single space by experimentation but didn't know if this was
specified or merely happenstance. SRFI 13 explicitly says that it
defaults to a single space
(http://srfi.schemers.org/srfi-13/srfi-13.html#List2String). I think it
would be helpful if the Guile documentation said so too.

Thanks,

Bug#597696: [xserver-xorg-video-intel] Slow response (or late repaint?) in some cases in Konsole and KMail

2010-09-22 Thread Frederik Schwarzer
Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Version: 2:2.12.0+shadow-1
Severity: normal

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

After upgrading to the shadow version, I see some laggy behaviour
in two cases.
1) in KMail the Send button has a popup menu that opens with a short delay
if several SMTP accounts are configured. This popup now does not open
most of the times. I need to move the mouse by at least one pixel to make
   the menu appear.
2) Konsole (the KDE terminal emulator) shows (from what I think) the same
behavious a bit differently. At several occasions I experience these lags.
E.g. if I use tab completion, the completed text only shows after pressing
   another key.
Or password prompts for SSH conections do not show until I press a key.
Or if I run through a command line with the cursor keys, the last step
happens about a second after I released the key.
   Stuff like that ...

If I report an issue in the package iceweasel, there is a dialog

Bug#597699: [xserver-xorg-video-intel] X does not start at system startup (but does so later)

Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

If my system boots, it should start KDM for login. This does
not work now since approximately when the new boot sequence
dependency stuff was introduced in Sid. I talked to some
people and they said, the problem would be the intel driver
not initializing fast enough. So, here's what I experience.

On system startup, X tries to start, but doesn't.
If I then log in and start X manually, it works.

If I do not have a network cable plugged in at boot time,
DHCP takes its time and X starts properly afterwards.

Do you have any idea if this could be related to the intel driver?

I could send you both Xorg.logs if you are interested.

Bug#584905: plasma-netbook not auto-starting on a fresh install isn't fixed

2010-09-22 Thread sonix
Hi!
Sorry, but it seems that the bug plasma-netbook not auto-starting on a fresh
install isn't fixed:
Yesterday I've installed a fresh Squeeze from
http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/weekly-builds/i386/iso-dvd/ (20-Sep-2010
06:12).

Packages during installation:
Desktop environment
Standard
Laptop

after the first boot
aptitude install kde-plasma-netbook

Reboot and first login with KDM shows me the KDE-Splash, the first four Icons
glows up and after this I see a black screen with mouse-courser. I have to open
a command line with ALT + F2, type and send plasma-netbook and
kde-plasma-netbook starts. But autostart for kde-plasma-netbook don't work,
tried a lot of times.

Would you please re-check the meta-package kde-plasma-netbook?

If you need more Information about my installation, I subscribed this bug-list,
just let me know.

Many thanks!
cu,

You see this because the old locales package is not compatible with the
new libc6 and has been auto-deconfigured. These messages go away after
the new locales package has been configured, which unfortunately does
  happen rather late during dist-upgrades.

While I don't think the chattering should be disabled in the general
case (which is what #221790 is about, so unmerging), I certainly see the
point for silencing it during package upgrades where the locale problem
 is very often transient.

Cc'ing the dpkg maintainers. What do you think about making dpkg set
PERL_BADLANG=0 when running maintainer scripts? I think that's the only
place where it could be done.

Alternatively, I suppose I could patch perl to also quelch the warnings
when DPKG_RUNNING_VERSION is set (or should it rather be one of the
DPKG_MAINTSCRIPT_* variables ?).

This seems somewhat cleaner to me, but opinions would be welcome.

FWIW, I see mandb outputs similar warnings so the issue isn't limited
to just perl.

Bug#597652: redmine: In some contexts accented characters don't display correctly

2010-09-22 Thread J . Tóth Gábor
Hi Jérémy,

I have now confirmed that the problem is related to the database encoding.
Here's what I did:

I changed the default character encoding of MySQL to UTF-8 (from the Debian
default of Latin-1) by adding the following lines to the mysql
configuration:

[mysqld]
collation_server=utf8_unicode_ci
character_set_server=utf8

After that, I deleted the redmine database (DROP DATABASE
redmine_default), and recreated it by dpkg-reconfigure redmine.

After that, all characters are displayed correctly.

I'd guess setting the character encoding at server level is an overkill and
the proper encoding could be set at the database level by the dpkg
configuration script but that's just a guess.

This closes the issue for me but I guess the bug is still there. Let me
know if I can be of further assistance in fixing it.

 Hi Jérémy,

I usually use Opera on WinXP but I occasionally cross-check
things on Iceweasel or Epiphany on Debian.

I tried setting the Encoding to UTF-8 (from automatic) but it
 did not help.

I also tried creating a task with one of these problem
characters in its title and descriptor and it showed the
 same problem.

BTW: I think not remaining the role names may be The Right
Thing, as these names could be customized anyway.

In addition, I tried
 to edit one
of the effected strings (role names), and it doesn't work: if I
rename the role name Vezet? to Vezető, if changes
 back to Vezet?.
If I rename it to Vezetö (all characters present in
 Latin-1), it
   succeeds.

On a further move, I looked into the mysql table that
 seems to hold
this information, and the information in there is
 incorrect already:

   mysql select name from roles;

   | Anonymous |

   | Fejleszt? |
   | Bejelent? |

DHCP takes its time and X starts properly afterwards.

Do you have any idea if this could be related to the intel driver?

No.

I could send you both Xorg.logs if you are interested.

Send dmesgs too.

Cheers,
Julien

How about you do that?

Please avoid reportbug-ng in the future, use reportbug instead.

Bug#597703: Wireshark segmentation fault

2010-09-22 Thread Fokin, Evgeny
Package: wireshark
Version: 1.2.10-2

When I invoke `wireshark daud.cap` from an ordinary shell prompt it
prints `Segmentation fault`.

Here is a transcript:
$ wireshark daud.cap
dumpcap: There are no interfaces on which a capture can be done
Segmentation fault

File `daud.cap` is in attachment.

I tryed to install wireshark version 1.4.0-1 (experimental) and it
worked without segmentation fault.
I think something wrong with version 1.2.10-2 in squeeze (testing).

I am using Debian GNU/Linux kernel 2.6.32-5-686.

Bug#595458: grub-probe fails to find device for btrfs / on kernel 2.6.35 (works with 2.6.32): HELP REQUESTED

2010-09-22 Thread Alexander Kurtz
retitle 595458 grub-probe fails to find device for btrfs / on kernel 2.6.35
(works with 2.6.32)
reassign 595458 grub-common
severity 595458 important
tags 595458 help
thanks

Hi Nicolas,

I'm really running out of ideas and could need a little help from the
maintainers on this. Let me just summarize what we got so far:

1. / and /home are both btrfs filesystems
2. when using 2.6.35 grub-probe doesn't work for / but does for /home
3. when using 2.6.32 grub-probe works for both

Is this description correct and complete?

Best regards

Alexander Kurtz

PS: Is the 2.6.35 kernel you are using the one from Debian experimental
or did you compile it yourself?

Bug#597704: On upgrade to 2.4.23-5 an rm -f /* has been executed and crashed my whole system!

2010-09-22 Thread Joerg Friedrich
Package: slapd
Version: 2.4.23-5
Severity: critical

After the last upgrade of slapd my complete sytem was unusable because
the update ran a rm -f /*.

this fortunatly was not able to delete the directory bin, sbin, home,
var, ... but it deleted the symlink lib64 - lib (amd64 system) and then
the linker was not able to find some libraries so the system was
unusable. I was able to recover the link by boot cd, so I think I did
not lose any data.

Background: I installed slapd on my desktop for testing with
ldapbackend. I just did a straight installation of slapd but I changed
slapd.conf afterwards to use the ldap-backend.
During the upgrade either slapd.config or slapd.postinst failed and
tried to delete the database directory but since my slapd.conf did not
contain any directory statement any more get_directory returned nothing
and $dbdir was emtpy. So instead of rm -f $dbdir/* it ran rm -f /*!

Please add a test that checks if $dbdir has any value!

Btw: I think rm -f $dbdir/* can run into MAX_ARGS. maybe using find
 -delete would be better
