Bug#597672: rmt broken by the security fix in 1.20-1+lenny1 version of tar
On Wed, 22 Sep 2010 13:29:26 +1200, Dennis Vshivkov wal...@amur.ru wrote: According to the changelog, the latest version of tar package in lenny replaced rmt source with the one from paxutils for security reasons. Unfortunately, it also made it impossible to use tar and rmt together. Have you tried using a tar 1.23 version? The rmt version I used for 1.20-1+lenny1 is the one that's shipping in the current tar source tree. So, I'd like to understand whether there's something about fresher versions of tar that causes them to work better with rmt, or if this is a general upstream problem with the rmt in tar at this point. Until konqueror issue is solved, you could use other browsers that support NPAPI plugin (iceweasel, epiphany, galeon, chromium, ...). Regarding konqueror, we need to investigate further. I've never used konqueror and as far as I can see there are 2 ways: a) mozilla-plugin-gnash (now browser-plugin-gnash) + konqueror-nsplugins that makes konqueror work with NPAPI plugin like mozilla-plugin-gnash. b) konqueror-plugin-gnash based on kparts. I've tried both and in both cases it doesn't work: (a) gave me a crash nspluginviewer closed unexpectly (b) considers youtube movies as AVM2 clips so it can't play them. You could try both too but I don't expect better results. I have been using konqueror-plugin-gnash successfully for several years. As I mentioned in earlier posts, gnash plays youtube videos perfectly in Konqueror when the cookies are blocked. It doesn't seem that the problem is with the Konqueror plugin, but instead with how gnash interacts with the cookies stored in Konqueror. Regarding your nspluginviewer closed unexpectly error, that appears to be a separate issue. I have never had that problem before. -- Soren Stoutner so...@stoutner.org 623-262-6169 signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part.

Note that I'm using cacti=0.8.7g with spine=0.8.7a-2.3 on a Debian 5.0 (lenny) host. do you get the same problems if you also upgrade spine from the lenny version to the squeeze version (0.8.7e-2)? i wouldn't be surprised that the poller from lenny is designed for different sql/schema and thus might not do the right INSERT/UPDATE type statements. if upgrading to the squeeze version of spine doesn't solve the problem, you could also try updating to the latest upstream version (i.e. compiling it yourself and replacing the packaged version), but i haven't been lead to believe that the latest version is so different from the squeeze/sid version. sean signature.asc Description: Digital signature

I suggest that HOME be added to env_keep by default; the attached trivial patch does one implementation of this. This approach breaks the definition of -i as pointed out in one of the followups to #596847 .. so I'm not sure it's really the right thing to do. Hrm; right. It would be pretty easy to change this so that home was keep by default, but was reset when called with -i. I think the right behavior should really be something like this: 1) -i or -H or always_set_home - HOME is the home of the target user, no matter what env_keep says 2) HOME in env_keep (default) - HOME is the home of the calling user 3) HOME not in env_keep (env_keep -= HOME) - HOME is the home of the target user I can write a patch for this behavior if that makes sense to you. Bug#597681: unblock: samba/2:3.5.5~dfsg-1
Package: release.debian.org Severity: normal User: release.debian@packages.debian.org Usertags: unblock On Sept 7th, after a discussion with the RT, represented by Adam, I uploaded samba 3.5.4 to unstable. Adam suggested that we upload and then come back in a couple of weeks time to check the situation. In the meantime, upstream samba got a security release that lead to the upload of 2:3.5.5~dfsg-1 in unstable. Despite an attempt to upload samba 3.4.9 in t-p-u (to replace testing's 3.4.8 with the same security fix), we've been hit by a dak bug that rejects t-p-u uploads when a higher version is not built in unstable for one architecture.so, until this is fixed we have no other way to fix testing than allowing 3.5.5 to enter it (assuming that all builds will happen). No RC or even important bugs have been reported against 3.5.4 and 3.5.5 in this 2-weeks time. (http://ajmoraal.fastmail.net/ooo_splash.png) One difference is that the Suse file has even dimensions, while the Debian one has an odd horizontal size. So I opened the Debian one in Gimp, resized it to 550x336x24, and saved it again, and that seems to solve it - looks perfect on 16bpp now. Just to make sure Gimp didn't do anything else to the image, I also reopened the original and saved it again without changing the dimensions, but that still shows a distorted image. So could it be caused by the odd horizontal size of the image? Arjan -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? reassign 597654 postgresql-common 109 tag 597654 confirmed thanks Hello Adam, Adam Heath [2010-09-21 15:40 -0500]: I just upgraded postgres-8.4 from 8.4.4-1+b1 to 8.4.4-2. I have postgresql listed as Should-Start in ofbiz's initscript. However, init dependencies are not active, so normal number based ordering is used. I. e. you removed insserv? Bug#597672: rmt broken by the security fix in 1.20-1+lenny1 version of tar
On Wed, Sep 22, 2010 at 12:15:47AM -0600, Bdale Garbee wrote: According to the changelog, the latest version of tar package in lenny replaced rmt source with the one from paxutils for security reasons. I hadn't before. I have just tried using rmt binary from tar 1.23-2.1 (squeeze). It's just as broken as the one in 1.20-1+lenny1. Using it with tar binary from the same version of the package doesn't help either, naturally. My bad, I misinterpreted the 1.20-1+lenny1 changelog entry, somehow thinking that taking paxutils rmt was a Debian-specific way of the security fix. It indeed seems a tar upstream problem. However, I also found out that rmt in the paxutils upstream has been altered a week ago to fix the buffering of stdout (but not debug output) and parsing of the `mode' argument of `O' command. (I found that out from Debian bug #587702, reporting essentially the same as the one I posted, albeit with no patches. I should have found it first and added to it instead of posting a new report, another bad of mine...) So, Debian Lenny version of tar package can wait for the updated rmt to get from paxutils upstream to tar upstream, and then reimport it, or reimport the updated rmt directly from paxutils upstream, or just outright apply the fixes like mine or the one referred to in #587702. I didn't upgrade spine because I'll have to upgrade mysql too (and probably other packages from backports). The weird thing about these SQL errors is that running them manually gives no error but sometimes there are no results returned from the query. if upgrading to the squeeze version of spine doesn't solve the problem, you could also try updating to the latest upstream version (i.e. compiling it yourself and replacing the packaged version), but i haven't been lead to believe that the latest version is so different from the squeeze/sid version. There are near zero chances of compiling it myself. I'll probably try a fresh install on a squeeze host with cacti and spine =0.8.7e. Until them I'll stick with cacti=0.8.7e-4. Hi James, Hi Tim I last looked at hudson at DebConf, and got hung up on some licensing issues for the build dependencies. I've not looked at licensing of dependencies yet; any information that you have would be interesting to review. I'd welcome any help/ideas you can offer - I'm still making use of hudson at work, but obviously want to get it properly packaged. I'm not sure what the best approach is at this point - I think getting it all to build from source is quite an important feature. Build from source would be a great objective, but does not look that achievable; I have concerns re complexity of packaging - I particularly enjoyed the list of dependencies and the patching applied to them :-). I also think that the frequency of releases could also be hard to keep up with; I've been doing some work automating the Ubuntu Server ISO testing process over the last two weeks using Hudson and I've been upgraded at least twice! If we take this approach, we also need to consider how we package plugins as well - these are downloaded and installed directly from within the tool so won't conform to policy that well. I have started to document my initial work/thoughts here https://wiki.ubuntu.com/JavaTeam/HudsonDependencies I'm aiming to take a Feature Spec for Ubuntu to UDS-N in October as I know that Hudson is being used by a number of teams on the project and that it would make a great addition to both Debian and Ubuntu in the long term. If the build from source objective is not achievable, what are the options for Debian in terms of binary packaging? Bug#215757: ppmtowinicon: allow PPM as alpha mask
Hi, Very old issue, but let's see if I can add something useful to the discussion. ppmtowinicon relies only on grayscale images (PGM, or PBM as a particular case of PGM) as alpha masks because it is easier to make assumption about what the transparent and opaque areas are going to be in this case (white color means opaque, non-white means transparent); if you use a color image as alpha mask what color do you take as the transparent area? In your example, by running ppmtopgm you are actually adding the assumption that the white color is meant to be the opaque area, well, it is not so trivial in general. Using grayscale images for alpha masks makes sense because it is easy. FWIW I think this bug can be closed as well. Ok, the last test reveals that with 'cmd.php' used directly after upgrade the same SQL errors will appear after the first 5 minutes cycle (see attached file). See that the 'select' queries in the database are good with some notes: - there is a missing in the log at 11:35:34 regarding SQL:REPLACE INTO; - I've executed only the 'select' queries. Bug#595023: doesn't seem to support multiple bind addresses
Package: apt-cacher-ng Version: 0.2.2-2 Severity: normal Just hit this bug :s The problem is in the perl script (/usr/lib/apt-cacher-ng/expire-caller.pl), in the part where it parses the configuration files. It parses each line into key+value pairs: ($key, $value) = split(/\s*:\s*/); And then builds the map: $cfg{$key}=$value; BindAddress might list more than one value in the value part, but the script treats it like a single string - which is likely an invalid hostname. The address is used to contact the daemon (conTcp), so in this case it should be acceptable to add a special case to use only the first address listed. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.36-rc4 (SMP w/2 CPU cores; PREEMPT) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#597688: g-d-u: [PATCH] Add notification for degraded RAID arrays
Package: gnome-disk-utility Version: 2.30.1-2 Severity: wishlist Tags: patch Hi, The attached patch for gdu-notification-daemon enables notifications for degraded (Linux MD) RAID arrays (the patch is 4-5 lines + reindent). It piggybacks on the existing SMART notification; it's a stop-gap until upstream refactors gdu-notification-daemon and implements proper, detailed notifications for (Linux MD) RAID arrays. On 22 September 2010 09:03, James Page james.p...@canonical.com wrote: If the build from source objective is not achievable, what are the options for Debian in terms of binary packaging? Well, for binary packages, there's the non-free archive, which isn't really considered part of Debian. DFSG #2 requires source code, and there are other practical reasons (i.e. security patches). In the worst case, we could package up the patched dependencies under a different name. To deal with the rapid pace of upstream development, there is always the option of not uploading every point release. Obviously these are not ideal solutions, but we should be able to get something together and on the mirrors. -- Tim Retout dioc...@debian.org -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#597676: [Pkg-lyx-devel] Bug#597676: [lyx] Export to PDF requires texlive-fonts-extra package
Sven Hoexter wrote (Wednesday 22 September 2010): On Wed, Sep 22, 2010 at 01:04:24PM +1000, Brendon Higgins wrote: Hi. I noticed that you cannot export to PDF file from the File-Export menu unless texlive-fonts-extra is installed. Otherwise, there is no PDF output option listed. You don't need to be writing any special document; a new default article behaves the same. To get the File-Export-PDF (*) options you have to install texlive-fonts-extra, and then tell LyX it exists by doing a Tools-Reconfigure. Hm sounds odd and I can't reproduce it here. Just cleared my .lyx directory and I've only texlive-fonts-recommended installed and everything works fine. I tried several pdf export options dvipdfm, pdflatex and ps2pdf. All work fine here. I've just noticed that after closing and reopening LyX, the PDF export options don't stay. Each time, I can run Reconfigure and the PDF options reappear (as well as DVI and Postscript options). All the files in .lyx are u+rw, though - there doesn't seem to be any reason why it would do this. Strangely, I've now tried purging the fonts-extra package and after I run Reconfigure, the PDF options show in the export menu anyway (but don't stay there after I close LyX). I know I ran Reconfigure, without success, before I tried installing fonts-extra. Well, maybe the package triggers caused regeneration of some files that made LyX happier. :-/ Could you please attach the ~./lyx/configure.log for the setup where the export did not work? Attached. This is when I ran it before installing texlive-fonts-extra. I've checked and it's identical to the configure.log after purging fonts-extra. From time to time akregator crashes with the attached backtrace. I don't have a clue of how to reproduce the bug properly. It happens if the window is active or not, suddenly the crash handler pops up. As http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=190068 suggests it happens while fetching feeds. Since it then also forgets its state (which feeds/article is alredy read) recovery is cumbersome. Bug#597652: redmine: In some contexts accented characters don't display correctly
Hi Jérémy, I usually use Opera on WinXP but I occasionally cross-check things on Iceweasel or Epiphany on Debian. I tried setting the Encoding to UTF-8 (from automatic) but it did not help. I also tried creating a task with one of these problem characters in its title and descriptor and it showed the same problem. Bug#597695: guile-1.8-doc-non-dfsg: string-join documentation does not specify default delimiter
Package: guile-1.8-doc-non-dfsg Version: 1.8.7+1-1 Severity: minor The string-join documentation in 'info guile-1.8' is as follows: -- Scheme Procedure: string-join ls [delimiter [grammar]] -- C Function: scm_string_join (ls, delimiter, grammar) Append the string in the string list LS, using the string DELIM as a delimiter between the elements of LS. GRAMMAR is a symbol which specifies how the delimiter is placed between the strings, and defaults to the symbol `infix'. `infix' Insert the separator between list elements. An empty string will produce an empty list. `string-infix' Like `infix', but will raise an error if given the empty list. `suffix' Insert the separator after every list element. `prefix' Insert the separator before each list element. This left me wondering what the default delimiter was; I could tell it was a single space by experimentation but didn't know if this was specified or merely happenstance. SRFI 13 explicitly says that it defaults to a single space (http://srfi.schemers.org/srfi-13/srfi-13.html#List2String). I think it would be helpful if the Guile documentation said so too. Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel Version: 2:2.12.0+shadow-1 Severity: normal --- Please enter the report below this line. --- After upgrading to the shadow version, I see some laggy behaviour in two cases. 1) in KMail the Send button has a popup menu that opens with a short delay if several SMTP accounts are configured. This popup now does not open most of the times. I need to move the mouse by at least one pixel to make the menu appear. 2) Konsole (the KDE terminal emulator) shows (from what I think) the same behavious a bit differently. At several occasions I experience these lags. E.g. if I use tab completion, the completed text only shows after pressing another key. Or password prompts for SSH conections do not show until I press a key. Or if I run through a command line with the cursor keys, the last step happens about a second after I released the key. You see this because the old locales package is not compatible with the new libc6 and has been auto-deconfigured. These messages go away after the new locales package has been configured, which unfortunately does happen rather late during dist-upgrades. While I don't think the chattering should be disabled in the general case (which is what #221790 is about, so unmerging), I certainly see the point for silencing it during package upgrades where the locale problem is very often transient. Cc'ing the dpkg maintainers. What do you think about making dpkg set PERL_BADLANG=0 when running maintainer scripts? I think that's the only place where it could be done. Alternatively, I suppose I could patch perl to also quelch the warnings when DPKG_RUNNING_VERSION is set (or should it rather be one of the DPKG_MAINTSCRIPT_* variables ?). This seems somewhat cleaner to me, but opinions would be welcome. FWIW, I see mandb outputs similar warnings so the issue isn't limited to just perl. -- Niko Tyni nt...@debian.org -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#597652: redmine: In some contexts accented characters don't display correctly
Hi Jérémy, I have now confirmed that the problem is related to the database encoding. Here's what I did: I changed the default character encoding of MySQL to UTF-8 (from the Debian default of Latin-1) by adding the following lines to the mysql configuration: [mysqld] collation_server=utf8_unicode_ci character_set_server=utf8 After that, I deleted the redmine database (DROP DATABASE redmine_default), and recreated it by dpkg-reconfigure redmine. After that, all characters are displayed correctly. I'd guess setting the character encoding at server level is an overkill and the proper encoding could be set at the database level by the dpkg configuration script but that's just a guess. This closes the issue for me but I guess the bug is still there. Let me know if I can be of further assistance in fixing it. --jtg -Original Message- From: J.Tóth Gábor [mailto:j...@jnet.hu] Sent: Wednesday, September 22, 2010 11:49 To: 'Jérémy Lal'; '597...@bugs.debian.org' Subject: RE: Bug#597652: redmine: In some contexts accented characters don't display correctly Hi Jérémy, I usually use Opera on WinXP but I occasionally cross-check things on Iceweasel or Epiphany on Debian. Bug#597699: [xserver-xorg-video-intel] X does not start at system startup (but does so later)

This does not work now since approximately when the new boot sequence dependency stuff was introduced in Sid. I talked to some people and they said, the problem would be the intel driver not initializing fast enough. So, here's what I experience. On system startup, X tries to start, but doesn't. If I then log in and start X manually, it works. If I do not have a network cable plugged in at boot time, DHCP takes its time and X starts properly afterwards. Do you have any idea if this could be related to the intel driver? No. I could send you both Xorg.logs if you are interested. Send dmesgs too. Bug#597703: Wireshark segmentation fault
Package: wireshark Version: 1.2.10-2 When I invoke `wireshark daud.cap` from an ordinary shell prompt it prints `Segmentation fault`. Here is a transcript: $ wireshark daud.cap dumpcap: There are no interfaces on which a capture can be done Segmentation fault File `daud.cap` is in attachment. I tryed to install wireshark version 1.4.0-1 (experimental) and it worked without segmentation fault. I think something wrong with version 1.2.10-2 in squeeze (testing). Let me just summarize what we got so far: 1. / and /home are both btrfs filesystems 2. when using 2.6.35 grub-probe doesn't work for / but does for /home 3. when using 2.6.32 grub-probe works for both Is this description correct and complete? Bug#597704: On upgrade to 2.4.23-5 an rm -f /* has been executed and crashed my whole system!
Package: slapd Version: 2.4.23-5 Severity: critical After the last upgrade of slapd my complete sytem was unusable because the update ran a rm -f /*. this fortunatly was not able to delete the directory bin, sbin, home, var, ... but it deleted the symlink lib64 - lib (amd64 system) and then the linker was not able to find some libraries so the system was unusable. I was able to recover the link by boot cd, so I think I did not lose any data. Background: I installed slapd on my desktop for testing with ldapbackend. I just did a straight installation of slapd but I changed slapd.conf afterwards to use the ldap-backend. During the upgrade either slapd.config or slapd.postinst failed and tried to delete the database directory but since my slapd.conf did not contain any directory statement any more get_directory returned nothing and $dbdir was emtpy. So instead of rm -f $dbdir/* it ran rm -f /*! Please add a test that checks if $dbdir has any value! Btw: I think rm -f $dbdir/* can run into MAX_ARGS. maybe using find -delete would be better -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing'), (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.34-1-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=de_DE.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=de_DE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages slapd depends on: ii adduser 3.112 add and remove users and groups ii coreutils 8.5-1 GNU core utilities ii debconf [debconf-2.0] 1.5.35 Debian configuration management sy ii libc6 2.11.2-5 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libdb4.8 4.8.30-2 Berkeley v4.8 Database Libraries [ ii libgnutls26 2.8.6-1the GNU TLS library - runtime libr ii libldap-2.4-2 2.4.23-5 OpenLDAP libraries ii libltdl7 2.2.6b-2 A system independent dlopen wrappe ii libperl5.10 5.10.1-14 shared Perl library ii libsasl2-22.1.23.dfsg1-6 Cyrus SASL - authentication abstra ii libslp1 1.2.1-7.8 OpenSLP libraries ii libwrap0 7.6.q-19 Wietse Venema's TCP wrappers libra ii lsb-base 3.2-23.1 Linux Standard Base 3.2 init scrip ii perl [libmime-base64-perl 5.10.1-14 Larry Wall's Practical Extraction ii psmisc22.11-1utilities that use the proc file s ii unixodbc 2.2.14p2-1 ODBC tools libraries Versions of packages slapd recommends: ii libsasl2-modules 2.1.23.dfsg1-6 Cyrus SASL - pluggable authenticat Versions of packages slapd suggests: ii ldap-utils2.4.23-5 OpenLDAP utilities - Besuchen Sie unsere neue Website.
