Bug#608468: pilot-read-ical depends upon external program

2010-12-31 Thread Harald Dunkel
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Package: pilot-link
Version: 0.12.5-2

pilot-read-ical depends upon an ical program, but the package
dependencies don't show. Without this executable installed I get

# pilot-read-ical -f /tmp/somefile

Listening for incoming connection on usb:... connected!

sh: ical: not found

AFAICS there is no ical package. The itools package providing
/usr/bin/ical seems to be unrelated.

Hi!

I reopened the bugreport, Tiago and Tássia. The cron.daily script is
now removed from the package, so on new installs of apticron is not
installed anymore. But on upgrading it seems to be left.

Bug#607857: tex-common: Hard-coded path in proposed patch

Hi,

Most of our scripts (the ones written for Debian) expect TEXMFDIST to
be /u/s/texmf-texlive and TEXMFSYSVAR to be /v/l/texmf.

Looking through the whole trigger code I see many instances of that.

To make it completely clear: Debian TeX Live does not support
moving of arbitrary trees by changing variables in texmf.cnf.

Not good[TM]. I'll open a wishlist bug to have that changed. Should
be that hard to source /etc/texmf/texmf.cnf at the beginning of these
scripts and set the values of TEXMFMAIN, TEXMFDIST etc. only the
variables are empty after /etc/texmf/texmf.cnf has been sourced.

I have done all of the diagnostic procedures suggested at the time I
reported the bug including the disabling of all plugins via several
different means. The result was always the same.

I have generated a backtrace for the failure occuring with URL
http://www.slashdot.org. It looks remakably similar to the one I
submitted with the initial report for stack frames #0 through #20.

Both URLs still fail for me. I am using the latest stable version
(3.0.6-3) of the program; is it possible you are using a newer version
in which the problem has been directly or indirectly fixed?

I tested on a freshly installed lenny system, which has the same
version. Could you attach the output of
reportbug --template xulrunner-1.9 ?

Bug#608469: tex-common: Path of texmf trees hard coded in postinst scripts

2010-12-31 Thread Hilmar Preusse
Package: tex-common
Version: 2.08
Severity: wishlist

In the file /etc/texmf/texmf.cnf it is possible to change the values of
TEXMFMAIN, TEXMFDIST, TEXMFSYSVAR . However these settings are ignored in
the postinst scripts of tex-common (and maybe other packages), simply the
default values are assumed. The scripts should source
/etc/texmf/texmf.cnf (if it exists) and assume the default values only the
the necessary variables are empty after sourcing the file.

Bug#608478: rapidsvn: change file selected state wrong in commit dialog

2010-12-31 Thread vietnq
Package: rapidsvn
Version: 0.12.0dfsg-2
Severity: normal

In commit dialog, clicking on the file list checkbox does not toggle selected
state.
This problem is in the handler of event wxEVT_COMMAND_CHECKLISTBOX_TOGGLED:
CommitDlg::OnCheckListFilesToggle(). The function should not call
CommitDlg::OnButtonToggle(), which get the state from the first selected item,
not item in the event.
Remove this event handler (or empty body) may fix the bug.

Bug#608480: Memory leak in _mysql_ConnectionObject_Initialize

2010-12-31 Thread Stephan Hofmockel
Package: python-mysqldb
Version: 1.2.2-7
Severity: important

Hello,

after a (long) database failure I realized that my application used a lot of
memory. After some debugging it was possible to reproduce the problem with the
following code snippet.

from MySQLdb import Connection

while True:
try:
conn = Connection(host='127.0.0.1', user='root', passwd='')
except Exception:
   pass

The leak is caused by a resource not deallocated if a Exception happens.

This leak is already solved in the 'upstream' repository
http://mysql-python.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/mysql-python/branches/MySQLdb-1.2/MySQLdb/_mysql.c?r1=625r2=630

I was wondering if it is possible to include that particular change into the
python-mysql version of debian ??

which is probably out of date;

II. en/release-notes.dbk:

 - firstnameChristian/firstname
 - surnamePerrier/surname

III. Nextreleasename; etc in some translations, which presumably have

/etc/fstab contains at least one entry that is marked as \noauto\ with a
non-zero pass number (meaning that the file system should not be
automatically mounted upon boot, yet should be checked by fsck, the file
system check utility).
msgstr
/etc/fstab innehåller åtminstone en post som är markerad som \noauto\ med
ett genomgångstal (eng. pass number)

automatiskt vid systemstart, men att det ska kontrolleras av fsck,

From this release onwards, fsck will fail for file systems that have a non-
zero pass number and are not available (eg. because they are unplugged) at
the time fsck runs. This will cause the system to enter file system repair
mode during boot.
msgstr
Från och med denna utgåva kommer fsck returnera en felstatus för filsystem som
har
ett genomgångstal skilt från noll och som inte är tillgängliga (exempelvis för

att de inte kopplats in) då fsck körs. Detta kommer leda till att systemet

To avoid this problem, please adjust such fstab entries for removable
devices, by either setting their pass number to zero, or adding the \nofail

msgstr
Detta problem undviks genom att justera sådana fstab-poster för borttagbara

att
lägga till flaggan \nofail\. Se mount(8) för fler detaljer.

No, I think that you have it wrong.

The Zoom style zooms independently for each monitor, so that you have
two copies of the image in the overall display.

You are right of course. I forgot how span is different from scaled.

With that in mind, your patch looks correct.

No change... Still not sure why the DRI ends up being disabled. :( Can
you try booting with drm.debug=7 on the kernel command line, starting X
and providing the resulting dmesg output (warning, there'll probably be
a lot of DRM debugging output, you may need to use /var/log/kern.log or
so to get all of it).

Also, if you feel adventurous, you could try enabling KMS with
radeon.modeset=1, but then you'll also have to make sure radeonfb is
disabled.

Hello,

zutils diverts binaries in /bin but installs its replacements to
/usr/bin. This makes the respective commands unavailable as long as
/usr/bin is not (yet) mounted.

I'm aware of the libstdc++ dependency that prevents zutils from being
installed in /bin, but the issue described above IMHO justifies the high
severity, even if it is not (easily) fixable.

The latest squeeze kernel (2.6.32-29) improved the situation. Now,
when the system boots, the backlight is not automatically set to its

during the BIOS boot phase, and keep this level.

This is a big improvement since now the system is usable in a dark
environment, even is adjusting the backlight level requires a reboot.

Hotkeys still dont't work, and result in the following message in the
system console:
ACPI: Failed to switch the brightness

Playing with /sys/class/backlight/panasonic/brightness doewsn't work

Looks more like emacspeak than emacspeak-ss; but `apt-get install

After that I can install emacspeak-ss without problems.

For the records, I have tried to install both packages alongside from

pressing return just complains about invalid port.

I guess that may be the origin for the hang in 'non-interactive' mode

Just my 2cents, not sure when I can try further.

`critical' is the only severity for bugs that break unrelated software
on the system.
By moving the z* binaries away, you potentially break every early boot
script that relies on them. I'm not aware of any of such, but unrelated
software doesn't really mean unrelated Debian packages, does it?

, even if it is not (easily) fixable.
apart from compiling things statically, do you have any other idea how
 to fix it?

1. Rewriting the stuff in C? IMHO the best solution, but probably even
more inconvenient than compiling it statically :)
2. Moving libstdc++ to /lib? Probably the more future-proof approach.
There's surely other software that would also profit of it (smartctl,
for example). I believe to remember darkly about some discussions about
that.

However, since on a normal system /usr/bin takes precedence over /bin
you shouldn't really need to divert anything in /bin away for anything
in /usr/bin.

  | E: Failed to create build directory /build

However, sbuild doesn't recommend or suggest sudo.

It shouldn't be using it. sbuild-createchroot can't use schroot to
finish final setup of the chroot (run apt-get update,dist-upgrade,
create build directory and other bits.) because it might not be
installed, or the chroot name may clash. So we use chroot(8)
instead via the Sbuild::ChrootPlain module. This only uses sudo
when not root (required for running chroot(8)), but since debootstrap
requires root and hence we are already root this should never occur.

I'll double check the logic in Sbuild::ChrootPlain; I had sudo installed
during testing, so it's possible I missed something. Looking at it, I
 think

 push(@cmdline, $self-get_conf('SUDO'))
  if ($need_chroot || $need_su);

 should be

 push(@cmdline, $self-get_conf('SUDO'))
  if (($need_chroot || $need_su)  $user ne 'root');

Please could you try the attached patch and let me know if it fixes the
problem for you?

I've tried it on my system, with no sudo privs, but since sudo is
still installed and it's run as root this isn't a totally fair test
(I can't remove sudo at the moment since I need it).

Thanks,
Roger

nroff -man blockade.6 doesn't indicate any problem. The man page

Bug#608253: [Pkg-xen-devel] Release notes addition for Xen support in Debian

Actually the sd* naming hasn't been removed from *Xen* itself,

whatever has been done upstream, sd* has been
removed, and the release notes addition above are
giving the correct advice to our users, which was
the point: it tells to always use xvd*.

If you want to change the patch I prepared, feel

Bug#608491: syslog-ng: log file permissions dangerous on kfreebsd-i386

2010-12-31 Thread Steven Chamberlain
Package: syslog-ng
Version: 3.1.3-1
Severity: grave
Tags: security

Hello,

On kfreebsd-i386, installing the syslog-ng package with its default
configuration files, sets the permissions of system log files including
/var/log/messages, daemon.log, auth.log and perhaps others to
-rwsrwsrwt. This happens whether the files previously existed or not.

This makes these log files world-readable, despite the perm(0640)
setting in syslog-ng.conf. Non-privileged users can also truncate or
append to these files, but doing so seems to remove the setuid/setgid bits.

There may be a potential for root privilege escalation if a user can
cause syslog-ng to write executable commands to one of these log files.
The files are not normally executable (text file busy) whilst syslog-ng
has them open for writing, but upon the next run of logrotate, the file
permissions including setuid/setgid bits are preserved.

Bug#608492: cairo: FTBFS on hurd-i386: LD_PRELOAD support not enabled

Package: cairo

Hi,

currently[1] cairo/exp does not on compile on Debian/Hurd.
The problem is that the support for LD_PRELOAD is not enabled on hurd,
so cairo-trace is not compiled and then dh_install fails.
Given LD_PRELOAD works on Hurd, it can be enabled in cairo. The attached patch
does this job.

That's what I thought. At least I tried.
Since there's another way to create a Gnome applet in C++, it's not a

other way lacks documentation).

Oh, and, there's no point in being unpleasant. :)

Hello,

Thanks for your attention to wiliki package. I'm sorry that I was
unaware of this unblock request by Yamane-san and submitted another as
#608462...

I admit this package has been of very low activity and left untouched
for quite a long time due to my laziness, but I believe a certain
number of sites in Japan are loyally using it for a handy locally
shared CMS, I hope wiliki remains a part of squeeze however old it
might be.

Recent versions of wiliki would surely be packaged for the next release.

Bug#608319: libssh: missing build dependency on texlive-latex-recommended

2010-12-31 Thread Laurent Bigonville
tag 608319 + unreproductible

Le Wed, 29 Dec 2010 12:40:04 -0800,
Norbert Kiesel nkie...@tbdnetworks.com a écrit :

Hi,

Just tried to rebuild libssh from the source package because I need
SSHv1 support, and it failed building the documentation because
 refman.tex requires float.sty which is in texlive-latex-recommended.
This dependeny is not in doxygen and thus needs to be listed
 explicitly.

Unfortunately, I'm unable to reproduce this, I've no problem to build
the package using a build system (pbuilder or sbuild).

Could you explain me how you've tried to rebuild the package?

BTW: there is a new upstream version (0.4.7). Also, any chance of
enabling SSHv1 in the official Debian package? I know it's outdated
and insecure, but (older) Cisco gear does not speak SSHv2.

I would like to avoid this.

Cheers

Laurent Bigonville

Bug#544229: should require virtual facilities to expand to at least one facility when they are in required-{start, stop}

2010-12-31 Thread Guido Günther
Package: insserv
Version: 1.14.0-2

Hi,
the corosync packages got affected by this since it used a:

But rsyslog is not started in runlevel S so the $syslog dependency got
silently dropped to the floor.
At least a warning would be nice to track down this kind of problems.

Bug#608339: initramfs-tools: MODULES=dep fails when / is ubifs (reopen)

2010-12-31 Thread Alexander Clouter
Hi,

* maximilian attems m...@stro.at [2010-12-30 21:11:18+]:

This is trivially resolved by amending the routines that search for the
root block device and fstype in /usr/share/initramfs-tools/hook-functions
  to the following instead:

  # findout root block device + fstype
  eval $(mount | awk '!/^rootfs / / on \/ type / {print root= $1
  \nFSTYPE= $5; exit}')

  # On failure fallback to /proc/mounts if readable
  if [ -z $root ] [ -r /proc/mounts ]; then
  eval $(awk '!/^rootfs / / \/ / {print root= $1 \nFSTYPE=
  $3; exit}' /proc/mounts)
  fi

first please if you do changes send them as diff, it is pretty
trivial these days and helps a lot for the review of a change:
 git clone git://git.debian.org/kernel/initramfs-tools.git
and see short guide on how to add features or fixes
 http://git.debian.org/?p=kernel/initramfs-tools.git;a=blob_plain;f=docs/maintainer-notes.html;hb=HEAD

Apologies, .

This filters out the useless '^rootfs' entry (enabling embedded folk to
continue symlinking) and permits anything (not just '^/dev/...') as the
root device. Now the ubifs root filesystem detection functions.

so based on your proposal a diff would look like this:

 diff --git a/hook-functions b/hook-functions
 index cc8b344..6dfd54d 100644
 --- a/hook-functions
 +++ b/hook-functions

 + eval $(awk '!/^rootfs / {if ($2 == /) {print root= $1

   # recheck root device

Don't trust it enough for the 'mount |' try too? ;)

Works for me, many thanks.

It should also be noted, the original 'failure fallback' does not work
anyway as it incorrectly refers to $5 (over eager cutting and pasting it
seems) when it should refer to $3 for FSTYPE.

well you may choose your words more wisely, as if you'd continue to read
the function you would see that we don't use this FSTYPE value, so this
 doesn't matter (;

Ahhh, well if that is the case, why bother to set FSTYPE? ;)

To clear up confusion, is it not being used after the '-z $root' check?

Cheers and have a Happy New Year.

On kfreebsd-i386, installing the syslog-ng package with its default
configuration files, sets the permissions of system log files including
 /var/log/messages, daemon.log, auth.log and perhaps others to
-rwsrwsrwt. This happens whether the files previously existed or not.
I can confirm this, not sure yet what's cause this. Upstream already
informed and hope it'll be fixed soon.
But an important note, for me it's slightly different. Only messages
and syslog are changed to chmod ; auth.log and daemon.log are not.

Bug#587363: Did you consider SASS as alternative?

2010-12-31 Thread Jonas Smedegaard

Hi Bernd,

Did you consider SASS as alternative for LESS? It is considered by some
(inlcuding me) as superior to LESS.

Here is an argument specifically comparing the two:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3133204/ddg#3133369

Sass is packaged already for Debian as libhaml-ruby1.8, as is the
(limited, so far) Perl implementation Text::Sass as libtext-sass-perl.

Beware that Joey is keen on keeping the code Perl-only for speed reasons
(e.g. he didn't like my request to support the Pandoc Markdown parser).

In fact, I packaged Text::Sass specifically with the intend of looking
into convincing Joey Hess to use integrate it into Ikiwiki, so I would
looove to beta test a plugin you might put together. Perhaps the plugin
could use Text::Sass by default, but optionally be configured to use the
Ruby implementation instead when the user favor the full features over
speed.

Bug#608444: After starting evince, I can no longer logout, or do a shutdown from Gnome. Damage once done, persists, even after envince is terminated

2010-12-31 Thread Leslie Satenstein
Following a few more tests

While using evince, I had Open Office open as I was doing some cut-and-paste
from the PDF to the ODT file. With Gnome, the shutdown button (for
shutdown) and the logout function on the logout button stop functioning, but
the switch user works. After a switch user, the poweroff button on the login
screen functions.

Just starting evince and loading the PDF does not cause the problem. It
appears to occur after some period of pdf scrolling.

Perhaps there is another test that is bizarre. If after startup of Debian, I
log to the account, then logout and log in again, the second logon is
faster, and the evince problem did not occur (1 time only).

So, good hunting and good luck

Happy New Year, welcome 2011

Bug#608500: undefined dbc_logline in /usr/share/dbconfig-common/dpkg/preinst

2010-12-31 Thread klaus zerwes
Package: dbconfig-common
Version: 1.8.46

/usr/share/dbconfig-common/dpkg/preinst is missing the include for
/usr/share/dbconfig-common/dpkg/common

this way calling dbc_logline will abort a package installation, as
it is a undefined function.

Bug#608444: Fwd: Bug#608444: After starting evince, I can no longer logout, or do a shutdown from Gnome. Damage once done, persists, even after envince is terminated

Subject: Re: Bug#608444: After starting evince, I can no longer logout, or
do a shutdown from Gnome. Damage once done, persists, even after envince is
terminated
To: Debian Bug Tracking System sub...@bugs.debian.org

Leslie Satenstein

I am looking at a 7.9meg pdf (postgres 9.0.2). I have no issues with
 viewing
 the pdf.
However, once evince has started, I can not logout from gnome, or issue a
reboot command or shutdown command from Gnome.

I am using Debian Squeeze with all updates as of 30 Dec 2010.

I did not check if evince 2.30, has the same problems for smaller PDF
 files.

Bug#608227: console-setup: XKBLAYOUT always get a _ suffix

I get the following warning during boot:

I fixed it by adding the following line in
 /usr/bin/ckbcomp, after line 2540:

 $consequent_values[$i] =~ s/_\)/\)/g;

Thanks for discovering this. I commited a somewhat more complex
solution which removes the underscore sign only if it was a part of a
%_... combination.

Apart from this I get lots of messages about
unsupported keycodes ( 600 lines printed to the tty),
 all starting with XF86.

The fix for these is to simply define them as VoidSymbol in %xkb_table.
I commited the required changes as well.

By the way, what was the purpose of using ckbcomp on this Nokia device?
Does this device have a text-mode console and is the keyboard supported
by the kernel or only by X?

Document creation works properly once the libio-string-perl package is
 installed.

Right, I missed that dependency. I added it in the 2.5-1 upload that I'm
preparing.

Thanks for your report!

relativeUrlRoot = ENV['RAILS_RELATIVE_URL_ROOT']
ActionController::Base.session = {

  :secret = sessionconfig[Rails.env]['secret'],
  :path = (relativeUrlRoot.blank?) ? '/' : relativeUrlRoot
}

should be in the initializers/50-debian.rb
after the .run! method is invoked.

And this is more elegant way of modifying things for Debian I think :)

Dear Giuseppe and Eucalyptus packagers,

Do you know if this bug also affects Eucalyptus 1.6.2 ? If not, we can close
it, since Debian does not distribute 2.0.0 or 2.0.1, and since I suppose that
we will jump directly to 2.0.2 or later when we will upgrade the package.

Have a nice day,

Bug#608504: please provide libgcrypt11 udeb package for debian-installer

Package: libgcrypt11

Hello,

in order to upload a cryptsetup binary which uses shared libgcrypt11
library, unfortunately some more preliminary steps are required.

the cryptsetup binary now has all dependencies in experimental
(libgpg-error0 and libgcrypt11 stored in /lib). but cryptsetup as well
provides a udeb package for the debian-installer. as the binary shipped
there is the same one, libgpg-error0-udeb and libgcrypt11-udeb packages
are required as well.

thus i hereby ask you to provide a libgcrypt11-udeb package in order to
satisfy the dependencies of cryptsetup-udeb package once it is built
with shared library dependencies.

see the attached patch. it applies against libgcrypt11 1.4.6-2.

Bug#440495: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics: Keyboard doesn't work after turning touchpad off and on

2010-12-31 Thread Ove Kaaven

Den 31. des. 2010 10:48, skrev Julien Viard de Galbert:

Hello,

About two or three years ago, you participated on the bug #440495 (or
#437255 that was merged with it).

The drivers have evolved quite a bit, are you still experiencing the
issue, if not can you tell me the version of
xserver-xorg-input-synaptics you are using, so that I can close the bug.

I'm running testing, not unstable, but it seems slightly better. When
turning the touchpad on, the kernel still often gives stuff like

Dec 31 15:56:38 merlin kernel: [1664912.888433] psmouse.c: TouchPad at
isa0060/serio1/input0 lost synchronization, throwing 4 bytes away.
Dec 31 15:56:39 merlin kernel: [1664913.836340] hda-intel: IRQ timing
workaround is activated for card #0. Suggest a bigger bdl_pos_adj.
Dec 31 15:56:39 merlin kernel: [1664914.046085] psmouse.c: resync
failed, issuing reconnect request

(when this particular message appeared, my music playback froze for
about a second, repeating its current buffer a few times.)

Also, xev tells me that turning the touchpad off gives me a
Press/Release with keycode 201, and turning it on gives me a
Press/Release with keycode 146, which maps to Help, and thus would bring
up the desktop's Help window and annoy me, if I hadn't already turned
that hotkey off in my settings.

What's better is that now at least there *is* a KeyRelease event of that
fake Help key, and thus the keyboard focus is no longer permanently
stolen. It still would bring up the Help system, and it still takes the
system a few seconds to regain touchpad control after turning it on,
which may or may not momentarily freeze the system, but now it always
does seem to recover, at least...

Thanks,
Ove

While I don't know syslog-ng internals, I made some debug. It seems
syslog-ng uses chmod and derivatives only on three locations. During

it chmods /var/run/log to 0666.
Even ktrace didn't help me. The only chmod that can be suspicious in its

But it may refer to the error message printed on the screen:

Description : Simple packet logging and software tap daemon
This is a libpcap-based daemon that can be used in two different ways:

 * It can sniff packets from a network interface and spool them straight
to disk. It will automatically roll over the capture file when
 it reaches a specific size.

 * It can sniff packets from an interface and rewrite them to a second
interface, acting as a software tap.

I have lintian-clean packages ready for this program and will submit
as soon as possible.

I assume that the hyphens in rsyslog.conf in front of some filenames
indicate that these files aren't synced after every message, but
there's no information about this in the manpage.

Well, I found the same problem, so I fixed it. Here is a patch that adds
documentation about the -file syntax to rsyslogd.conf(5) manpage.

I attach this patch in two formats:
* the git-format-patch, ready to be git-am'ed: this one adds a patch in
  debian/patches;
* the raw patch itself against tools/rsyslog.conf.5.
Use the one you prefer!

Regards,

Description: Document the -file form in rsyslog.conf(5)
The regular file action allows to prepend file name with a minus sign
to omit syncing the file after every logging. This patch documents it
on the manpage.

Typically messages are logged to real files. The file has to be specified with full pathname,
 beginning with a slash ('/').

+You may prefix each entry with the minus -'' sign to omit syncing the file
+after every logging. Note that you might lose information if the system crashes
+right behind a write attempt.

 .RS
*.* /var/log/traditionalfile.log;RSYSLOG_TraditionalFormat # log to a file in the traditional format
