it's a bug in your config, you need more files present on the media, as
the link to the corresponding commit in live-build shows.

Could you be more specific, and put an information in README.Debian?

On the 5.0 version, I had libutil_com.c32 and not the libutil.c32. Could
be that the error? (Note: I copied it also /boot/extlinux).

Anyway running extlinux -i /boot/extlinux, I would expect that the
program will copy the right files in boot (so possibly my original bug
is a slight different [or deeper] to the installer bug)

Version 5.01 works again for me, so for me the initial bug is closed.
Because of the further concerns opened by -release and -boot, I left it
open, to continue the discussion.

Bug#699730: gnome-control-center: brightness resets on reboot or logout

2013-02-04 Thread Zack
Package: gnome-control-center
Version: 1:3.4.3.1-2
Severity: important
Tags: upstream

Dear Maintainer,

I went into system settings/gnome-control-centre, and set the brightness to
minimum. However, when I reboot, or log out, it reverts to maximum brightness.
This also happens sometimes over long periods when I haven't logged out, for
example when I leave it long enough to suspend (although not when I suspend
it). I have searched the web for similar bugs and believe it to be a gnome bug.
It may be related to another similar bug, in which the brightness short-cut,
fn-down, on my keyboard only reduces the brightness about a fifth of the way to
minimum.

My screen is painfully bright on maximum, so I couldn't just ignore this bug,
and having to manually reset it every time it happens is annoying.
I could not find any way of stopping that happening,
https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/231/brightness-control/ this extention
did not reduce brightness at all, I presume because the bug affects this. I
found a work around which is an executable (I will attach it), which sets
the brightness to minimum, which I can set to run up start up and then as a
short-cut for whenever it resets to maximum.

What I expected is that I would have to set the screen brightness within
settings and it would stay at that brightness indefinitely and across reboots,
and I would only need to re-adjust it when I want to increase the brightness.

And why is this a normal bug? IMHO it's wishlist.

It would be great if multiarch support could be added to this package,
 otherwise

Besides the fact that libgraphite2-2.0.0 never will get multiarch support
because it's dead (see new upstream version
http://packages.debian.org/experimental/libgraphite2-3) I won't do this
until multiarch is actually working (bin-NMUs etc.)

it blocks some i386 packages from installing (newer Pango apparently requires
 this package)

Hmm? What?
http://packages.debian.org/sid/libpango1.0-0
http://packages.debian.org/experimental/libpango1.0-0

Nothing in Debian needs it (yet).

Bug#699593: login: wrong egid

2013-02-04 Thread Petr Salinger

Maybe this is related to the problem (a wild guess really - the first
thing that jumped out at me as being wrong). There are checks for
__FreeBSD__ relating to euid/egid, and they may also need to check for
__FreeBSD_kernel__

It is not needed, we have wrapper in our glibc sysdeps:

/*
The FreeBSD kernel do not test file access correctly when the
process' real user ID is superuser. In particular, they always return
zero when testing execute permissions without regard to whether the
   file is executable.

While this behaviour conforms to POSIX.1-2008, it is explicitely
discouraged. This wrapper implements the recommended behaviour.
 */

These check fo __FreeBSD__ are unrelated to the original problem.

Bug#699732: qbittorrent: new major upstream version available

2013-02-04 Thread Rogério Brito
Package: qbittorrent
Version: 2.9.8-1

Hi.

Thanks for packaging qbittorrent. I use it exclusively as my bittorrent
client and am quite happy with it.

I saw that the upstream version of qbittorrent is, currently, 3.0.8, which
is a bugfix release of the 3.0 series.

It would be superb to have newer versions of qbittorrent uploaded to the
archives (perhaps to experimental, if you want to avoid disruption with
unstable and the freeze).

Thanks in advance,

It does, and it generally is for hardware acceleration.

'xserver-xorg-video-radeon' suggests 'firmware-linux', but probably this

be a recommendation or even a real dependency.

That is not allowed for packages in main.

Is this a laptop? The drivers are detecting an LVDS panel with 640x480

Does it help if you disable the LVDS/Laptop display or deselect 'Mirror

need the LVDS display, video=LVDS-1:d on the kernel commandline might
help.

of how RandR 1.2 support is initialized in the X server.

Bug#697070: /usr/sbin/dovecot: adding 15-mailboxes.conf causes duplicate mailboxes

Just a quick note to say that we were also affected by this problem and
that it took me hours before finding the root cause ;)

It seems difficult to prevent it, but a note in NEWS may help finding

Bug#699735: Include snmptthandler-embedded

2013-02-04 Thread Christoph Berg
Package: snmptt

Date: Sun, 3 Feb 2013 21:15:18 +0100

To: Christoph Berg m...@debian.org
Subject: Feature request for snmptt package in experimental

Dear Christoph Berg,

I had a look at the snmptt package in experimental and wanted to thank
you for the chance to test it already but I have one question: Could you
also include the snmptthandler-embedded script? It's not set executable
as it is only meant to be used by snmptrapd directly via the perl do
directive so I would presume that maybe /usr/lib/snmptt/ would be a
better path than /usr/sbin/ but having it in the package would be very
awesome (did already a local rebuild which I'm testing right now).
Thanks again for your work!

Kind regards
Harald Jenny

Package: sux

Severity: wishlist

Hi,

I often need to run X programs as another user and I don't like to type in the
other users password every time. If sux used sudo, I could use sudos
facilities to avoid typing the password (too often).

Do you think this makes sense? Should I try to produce a patch? I propose to
add a Recommends: sudo to the sux package and another executable sudox that
uses sudo instead of su.

* Christoph Anton Mitterer:

Would it be possible to make febootstrap a recommends?
I never use it and would prefer to not have it on our institutes systems.

Does having febootstrap installed hurt?

I assume that you are using the fixed appliance provided by upstream; is
that correct?

If febootstrap-supermin-helper is not used in that case, turning the
Depends into a Recommends may be possible, but not without changing the
scripts that are used to build a supermin appliance. If you submit a

Do you think the patch will make it into next stable release?
Wget without this patch is unable to do any HTTPS requests thru apache proxy.

Over the past couple of days, I've started getting a lot of the
following messages in my log file:

Jan 30 08:41:01 olgas pam_abl[32671]: Invalid argument (22) while
 opening or creating database

 What's going on?

Could you please check that the databases are not corrupted by running
the following commands and paste the output here?
You need to install db5.1-util package for the tools.
 as root:

 db5.1_verify -h /var/lib/abl users.db
 db5.1_verify -h /var/lib/abl hosts.db

Thanks very much for the help. Let's see:

 $ sudo db5.1_verify -h /var/lib/abl users.db
db5.1_verify: file unknown has LSN 1019/5969166, past end of log at

 Verification of users.db failed.

 Looks like trouble.

 $ sudo db5.1_verify -h /var/lib/abl hosts.db
 Verification of hosts.db succeeded.

 That looks OK.

if they seem to be corrupted you can try to recover:

 db5.1_recover -v -h /var/lib/abl

 $ sudo db5.1_recover -v -h /var/lib/abl
Finding last valid log LSN: file: 1019 offset 5974014

Wow, this has been going for some time. I have to leave now, so I'll
close with an observation and another question for you.

You are welcome.

How did you install the libpam-abl package? It is not available for the
stable so far...
The highest version of Berkeley DB in Debian Stable 6.0.6 (Squeezy) is
4.8.30-2.
The tests I performed yesterday where done on the testing system, where
libdb is 5.1.29-5 - exactly as on your system.
There is a tool called db5.1_upgrade which should be used to upgrade the
database, but I don't know if it make sense to use it after running
db5.1_recover on the old database...
I did a little more investigation. Between the time of the last good log
message and the one I listed above, two unusual things occurred. The
first is that I put my laptop to sleep, and the other is that I
installed the following packages (which don't look like they would
 interfere):

   [INSTALL, DEPENDENCIES] libemma-java
   [INSTALL, DEPENDENCIES] libganymed-ssh2-java
   [INSTALL, DEPENDENCIES] libjna-java
   [INSTALL, DEPENDENCIES] libsvnkit-java
   [INSTALL, DEPENDENCIES] libtrilead-ssh2-java
   [INSTALL] libsvnclientadapter-java

I don't think that these packages could influence libpam-abl and also
don't see how putting to sleep would damage the database..
May be it makes sense to run smart check for the drive.

Also, I noticed that there were about 1000 old .log files in
/var/lib/abl. Is this normal? Is there a good way to consolidate them?

For the log files you can use db5.1_archive with -d flag, but see the
man page for the details.
 Thanks again!

Best regards,
Alex

Hi,

I just upgraded evolution from 3.4.4. to 3.6.3 and all but the primary
calendar were lost, i.e. I had to reconfigure my WebDav calendars and,
even worse, additional local calendars seemed to be completely gone.

I did then find the .ics file that used to be at
/home/jojo/.local/share/evolution/calendar/1303831081.2942.6@kirk/calendar.ics
in
/home/jojo/.local/share/evolution/calendar/trash/1303831081.2942.6/calendar.ics
and import it from there, so no data lost. But very inconvenient.

Greetings,
Joachim

Sometimes X crashes, leaving the picture frozen indefinitely.

The information included with your report does not show an X server
crash. Are you sure it crashes and doesn't 'just' freeze?

The display remains unusable when I try to switch to a VT, but I can log in
 with ssh.

When logged in via SSH, can you check if the X server process is still
alive? If it is, can you try running something like 'DISPLAY=:0
xdpyinfo' to see if it's still processing client requests?

Bug#699740: libopenobex1: Seg Fault when sending file through CSR BT to bcm4329

2013-02-04 Thread z7z8th
Package: libopenobex1
Version: 1.5-2
Severity: important
Tags: patch

Dear Maintainer,
   * What led up to the situation?
Actually, I don't exactly know how could it be a Seg Fault.
I try to send a file through CSR BT(2.1 EDR) to bcm4329(the chip
used on the evb of my company, running android 2.2). On Debian,
I use blueman when sending file, blueman uses obex-data-server
which loads libopenobex.so.
   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
open blueman, pair with bcm4329, send a file to bcm4329.
   * What was the outcome of this action?
obex-data-server segfault in libopenobex.so.
this bug is 100% reproduceable with the evb of my company, but
didn't occur when transfer file to HTC One S. Maybe it's caused
by bluetooth speed.
   * What outcome did you expect instead?
transfer file successfully.

When I got seg fault, I tried to debug this.
download the source,
enable debug when run ./configure,
change OBEX_DEBUG in config.h to 100 to print more debug message,
make make install,
run `obex-data-server -d -n' in terminal and test with blueman,

nah, that's really the ftp-masters job.

But then those of us who already have that faulty package installed
won't get rid of it merely because ftp-masters finally remove it from
 mirrors.

Those affected use other suites than stable so should be prepared for
bumps on the road.

Yes, it might make sense to add (temporary, dropped few weeks or months
later) package relationship hints, but there is a real burden of doing
so - both for maintenance and to the buildds.

Bug#699337: Wget omits Host header for CONNECT

2013-02-04 Thread Noël Köthe
Hello Pavel,

Am Montag, den 04.02.2013, 11:17 +0100 schrieb Pavel Mateja:

Do you think the patch will make it into next stable release?

Into the next wget stable release, should be. Into the next Debian
stable release wheezy, I don't think so because only release-critical
bugs are allowed to enter wheezy/testing in these days. Testing has 1.13
but unstable already has the latest upstream version 1.14 which will not
be allowed into testing until the release because its a new version.
You can see more information here: http://release.debian.org/

Wget without this patch is unable to do any HTTPS requests thru apache proxy.
I guess I should have set severity higher than normal.

If it would be important it would be the same case and the problem isn't
release critical (higher than important: see
http://www.debian.org/Bugs/Developer#severities ).

:( sorry for the bad news.
The only think which could be done is to ask debian-release@ people if
the patch could be allowed for this bug.

Bug#660747: color.due.today doesn't seem to work

2013-02-04 Thread Jakub Wilk

Control: forwarded -1 http://taskwarrior.org/issues/562

* Yuri D'Elia wav...@thregr.org, 2012-02-21, 15:31:

In my taskrc I have:

color.due=red
color.overdue=green
color.due.today=cyan
rule.precedence.color=due.today,active,blocked,overdue,due,keyword,project,tag,recurring,pri,tagged

(rule.precedence is the default actually, just posted here for
completeness).

If I add a task with 'due=today', the task list is shown with green
(overdue).

The same is also true for 'task calendar'.
color.calendar.due.today does not seem to be used (although it is
correctly represented in the legend). A task due today is actually
shown as overdue, just like in task list.

I believe this is because taskwarrior stores both date and time
internally, but it hides the latter from you by default, and the
default time is 00:00. Please see the upstream bug report for details.

Fine for me. Thanks.

PS : Security wise, UPNP IGD 2 is more strict to prevent a device to
open a  port to a different IP than itself. The bug that make SSDP
available on the WAN side is also problematic in the IGD V1 version.
You shall not rely on the firewall to block incoming WAN packet but

[Mike Gabriel]
During an Debian Edu workstation installation from the NETINST CD

This is related to URL: http://bugs.debian.org/566912 . It is also
related to the old URL: http://bugs.debian.org/277410 .

The question can be supressed by preseeding like this:

  dictionaries-common dictionaries-common/default-wordlist Manual symlinks

Perhaps something we should do to hide the problem?

Also, after installing b43-fwcutter, nothing further happens. I have to
install the firmware-b43-debs manually which is very confusing. Ideally, the
package b43-fwcutter should detect the hardware and prompt for the
installation of the proper package or at least depend on them.
b43-fwcutter itself is just a firmware cutter as its name suggests.
http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drivers/b43#Install_b43-fwcutter

firmware-b43-installer runs helper script of firmware installation.

I think such arrangement is OK and existed for some time already.

xprop assumes that WM_ICON_NAME and WM_NAME are encoded in ISO-8859-1.
For instance, when running

  /usr/bin/xterm -e 'printf \e]1;my_icon€\x07\e]2;my_title€\x07; sleep 999'

under UTF-8 locales, I get:

[...]
WM_LOCALE_NAME(STRING) = en_US.UTF-8
[...]
WM_COMMAND(STRING) = { /usr/bin/xterm, -e, printf
\\\e]1;my_icon\342\202\254\\x07\\e]2;my_title\342\202\254\\x07\; sleep 999 }
WM_ICON_NAME(STRING) = my_iconâ\302\202¬
WM_NAME(STRING) = my_titleâ\302\202¬

This can be regarded as correct for WM_COMMAND (the string is just
output undecoded), but not for WM_ICON_NAME and WM_NAME (the â and
¬ characters are meaningless.

The euro character is displayed correctly by the window manager (fvwm).

Really?
Where to check the source package content?

Yes, really. Check:

 b43-fwcutter-017/debian/po/en.po

I presume that this might come due to the fact that the .po file is
called en.po instead of es.po and the Spanish translation is invoked
when the locale is set to English (which is the case for me), I will
test that. I haven't used debconf translations before.

The thing is that absolutely nothing happens when installing the
b43-fwcutter which I found confusing. So, obviously people have to
ignore this package and always install the installer packages. This
should be mentioned at least in the README.Debian or better in the
package description.

I also don't see why you can't just merge everything into one binary
package. You install a package b43-firmware, it detects your hardware
in the preinst script and downloads and installs the firmware
accordingly. If the detection fails, it should prompt whether to
download the firmware anyway and then abort the installation or continue
the installation, depending on the user choice.

But maybe that's just me. I'd be happy if you have convincing arguments
why it should be handled differently.

Cheers,

Adrian

Ok. I added sources.

It seems you don't use the recommended sync tool, and as a consequence,

Bug#699740: libopenobex1: Seg Fault when sending file through CSR BT to bcm4329

2013-02-04 Thread Hendrik Sattler

z7z8th ybzhao1...@gmail.com schrieb:

Package: libopenobex1
Version: 1.5-2
Severity: important

Bug#699747: zabbix-frontend-php: Zabbix is looking for fping in wrong directories at default

2013-02-04 Thread Dusan Zatkovsky

Zabbix is looking for fping in wrong directories ( from log: At least one of
'/usr/sbin/fping', '/usr/sbin/fping6' must exist. Both are missing in the
system. ),
but debian has fping in /usr/bin/fping ). You couldn't use basic icmp
monitoring after clean installation of zabbix without zabbix config tweaking.

It should take some time for novice to find why icmp ping check in zabbix
doesn't work and to fix it by tweaking server config file.

Please update zabbix server config file template to match fping path at default.

Bug#699748: dnssec-tools: zonesigner doesn't glob properly when trying to move key files.

2013-02-04 Thread Rens Houben
Package: dnssec-tools
Version: 1.13-1
Severity: important
Tags: upstream patch

While testing zonesigner to set up DNSSec signed zones I kept getting file not
found errors whenever I tried using -kskdirectory and -zskdirectory to put the
keys in a separate directory from the zone files.

After some digging in the code I found out why -- the perl script calls system
with the arguments ('mv', $key*, $destination). The problem: system()
doesn't intrinsically glob, so it was looking for a file named key*, not all
files starting with key.

The issue is present both in 1.9 (squeeze) and 1.13 (testing/wheezy, sid).

I've attached a patch that fixes the problem.

Bug#541690: [Debian-in-workers] Which are these fonts?

kamathvasu...@gmail.com I recently claimed this bug which was
archived because of no activity. I
don't see who sent this bug request it seems to be came from Debian-IN
team itself. So if the person who sent this bug is following
debian-in-workers can you please list out which fonts we are looking to
introduce to Debian with this RFP

This ITP was coined out of packaging non-free fonts like Aksharyogini

Hi,

could you provide some more information for potential adopters?

With due to non-GPL compatible licensing you refer to the CPL,
I suppose. Could you elaborate on why the CPL is an issue?

The last upstream release was in April 2010, the upstream bug
tracker has 5 tickets in total, the last dating from 2009. This
looks like upstream development is not really active any more.
Could you tell your opinion on the activity of the upstream

Bye,

Yes, it might make sense to add (temporary, dropped few weeks or months
later) package relationship hints, but there is a real burden of doing
so - both for maintenance and to the buildds.

I'd consider the maintenance burden minimal, as this specific
relationship will never become wrong. So even if it gets forgotten in
debian/control, it will never hurt.

I am not going to upload a new package revision for this single
change, so I don't see the burden for buildds that you mention, either.

Bug#699749: avahi-daemon: /etc/network/if-up.d/avahi-daemon makes boot slow when most interfaces are handled by N-M

2013-02-04 Thread Mike Hommey
Package: avahi-daemon
Version: 0.6.31-1
Severity: normal

/etc/network/if-up.d/avahi-daemon rightfully skips itself when the given
IFACE is lo. However, even when lo is the only effectively configured
interface in /etc/network/interfaces, /usr/lib/avahi/avahi-daemon-check-dns.sh
is called, making the boot wait ~14s for nothing.

My /etc/network/interfaces look like this:

  # The loopback network interface
  auto lo
  iface lo inet loopback

  # The primary network interface
  allow-hotplug eth0
  #NetworkManager#iface eth0 inet dhcp

  iface tap0 inet static
(...)

It appears /etc/network/if-up.d/avahi-daemon is called for both IFACE=lo
and IFACE=--all, the latter being the occasion where
/usr/lib/avahi/avahi-daemon-check-dns.sh hangs the boot sequence.

Downgrading the severity as this (hopyfully) only affects your GPU model
(or gpu+system combination).

Anyway, the 96xx series has been declared as end-of-life by Nvidia and
won't be updated any more.

Then the xorg.conf was modified to be like the one in lenny that worked
 great in that release.

Have you tried the minimal xorg.conf as can be fount in README.Debian?

update-alternatives was then run to point the links to 96xx.

Why do you have 173xx legacy installed anyway? It does not support your
card.

I have not much hope to be able to find a solution :-(

Did you have the system running under squeeze?

There are probably 3 major components changing from release to release
that could be involved in this bug:
* kernel
* Xorg
* driver (Nvidia 96xx should be rather stable (or better static),
while Nouveau should see a lot of development ...)

Starting with a well working old system and then testing partial
upgrades (or backports or ...) could help to find the faulty component
... best to do this with an installation on a separate disk, to be able
to start over and test a different path without losing valueable data etc.

root+boot on a btrfs subvolume.

thanks for the patch; I'm afraid it's too huge for us to review/merge
at this late stage of the release cycle; it should be considered
during the jessie release cycle instead.

Do you think it would be OK to already commit this is the master
branch so that these important contributions are not simply forgotten
when we really start working on jessie (in a year or so...:-( ).

Of course, if we do this, we fork a wheezy branch just in case.
Yes, the patch for btrfs support is large but these have been integrated
into the Fedora package os-prober-1.57 which is in the staging process
for both Fedora 17 and Fedora 18. Therefore, they will get a lot of
testing real soon now.

To actually exploit the btrfs support, grub2 needs two additional small
patches (one for basic support and the other for a btrfs volume on
multiple devices). The grub2 patches have been forward upstream as well
as reported to Fedora.

Sorry, I meant freeze. In bug 694953 the maintainer said he could see
my kernel was unhappy from the original dmesg log from when this
happened with the Intel driver.

I rebooted after the last freeze, not knowing I would have to open a
new bug, so the dmesg log here probably only shows since after the
reboot. When I thought the Radeon problem was the same bug, I attached
another dmesg log there (message 37) that I think covers the time that
the freeze occurred, so perhaps you can find some information in there?

Is the issue you're talking about reported as a bug in the Debian BTS? I've

 For Wheezy it's this bug:

 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=680469

Already solved, but not in time for the release-freeze.

I see, thanks. The initial submitter gave this bug Severity: normal. Do you
feel this bug makes lxc unusable, or mostly so? If there's agreement on that,
we could try to make a proposed update for the lxc package in wheezy. See also
http://release.debian.org/wheezy/rc_policy.txt .

Alternatively, a paragraph could be added to the wheeze release notes. Perhaps
the workaround with ssh as mentioned in the bugreport could be listed there. I
don't use lxc myself, so a draft text would be very welcome. I myself can add
such text to the release notes at
http://www.debian.org/releases/testing/amd64/release-notes/ch-upgrading.en.html#package-specific-issues

That _should_ be ok, and MPlayer should ideally print this only as debug info

I misread the report, the reported case should work fine.
The case that is not ok is compiling MPlayer against a later version and then
downgrade to a libav* version with a lower minor SONAME.
Note that it does not nullify the main reason for dynamic linking either way:
security updates.
Those are (usually) easy to 100% verify that they do not break ABI and then you
can just ignore those messages (if you even change the SONAME for these, if not
there is no issue at all).
We can also discuss other options, but the information that MPlayer is running
against a different version than it was compiled against is useful IMHO, so I'm
not in favour of removing this info completely.

Bug#699703: libguestfs0: make febootstrap a recommends

Well... I'm not using it at all... and intuitively I'd have assumed it
is not necessary for most other functionality of libguestfs, right?

The less stuff one has to install, the better :) .

I might have time to look into a patch after my holidays... but that's
about 3 weeks or so.

 Really?
Where to check the source package content?

 Yes, really. Check:

  b43-fwcutter-017/debian/po/en.**po

I presume that this might come due to the fact that the .po file is called
en.po instead of es.po and the Spanish translation is invoked when the
locale is set to English (which is the case for me), I will test that. I
 haven't used debconf translations before.

You are right!, my mistake, sorry! (fixed)

Also, after installing b43-fwcutter, nothing further happens. I have to
install the firmware-b43-debs manually which is very confusing. Ideally,
 the
package b43-fwcutter should detect the hardware and prompt for the
installation of the proper package or at least depend on them.

b43-fwcutter itself is just a firmware cutter as its name suggests.
 http://linuxwireless.org/en/**users/Drivers/b43#Install_b43-**fwcutterhttp://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drivers/b43#Install_b43-fwcutter

The thing is that absolutely nothing happens when installing the
b43-fwcutter which I found confusing. So, obviously people have to ignore
this package and always install the installer packages. This should be
mentioned at least in the README.Debian or better in the package
 description.

I also don't see why you can't just merge everything into one binary
package. You install a package b43-firmware, it detects your hardware in
the preinst script and downloads and installs the firmware accordingly. If
the detection fails, it should prompt whether to download the firmware
anyway and then abort the installation or continue the installation,
 depending on the user choice.

this part of the changelog[1], explains why it was necessary to split the
package, however I think this will be no problem for us because the driver
supports all cards with the Kerner 3.2 (which is in wheezy)

Adrian and I are working on a new version of b43-fwcutter without virtual
packages, which installed the appropriate firmware, depending on each card

This will be more clear to users :)

[1]: http://paste.debian.net/hidden/582ce9f5/

But maybe that's just me. I'd be happy if you have convincing arguments
why it should be handled differently.

 Cheers,

 Adrian

 Note: there's also a fork at https://github.com/davidgaleano/libwebsockets
I don't know which version should be best packaged. I favor the original
one unless we find good reasons to use the other one.

I'll try to take a look at it, it looks interesting. I'm not really

Bug#670972: debian-installer: include remote-repo URIs for offline installations in /etc/apt/sources.list

2013-02-04 Thread nan9

I agree with this suggestion. On my computers I can't do an online
installation at all. One of them lacks needed proprietary firmware,
while the other one is unable to connect, even if the essid is specified
manually.

Having the repositories commented out seems a sensible compromise
between enabling them on an offline machine and completely deleting
them. Perhaps a message during installation after Do you want to use
a network mirror? along the lines of Add default repositories to your
sources.list? is in order.

An alternate suggestion would be for apt-get to warn users on empty
'sources.list' and point them to 'man sources.list' where examples of
working repository urls can be found.

I should point out that gcc includes enquire with exactly the same
wording, so if anyone has a problem with xgks, then that is the least
of their problems :-)

I believe that this license is fine, because packaging costs (selling
a CD) are not licensing costs. It is still available for free, and so
the conditions of the license are fulfilled. This section was added
because Oracle stole the code once, modified it, added their own
copyright notice, and sold it, and the license wording is trying to
prevent that happening again. However, the wording comes from the
very

beginning days of the free-software era.

I'm not really that fussed about the license wording because as far as
I'm concerned it's fine. The point I wish to resolve is the one raised
by Luke in http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=699066#10,

then tries to mount it. This fails.

The issue here is actually twofold:
 - libmtp 1.1.5 doesn't support opening the device more than once, i.e. with
nothing else disturbing it, mtp-detect, followed by mtp-detect again fails.
 - gvfs-gphoto2 doesn't properly release the device so that Banshee can access
   it via libmtp.

For the first issue, libmtp 1.1.5 is already present in experimental, so you can
just upgrade to that.

For the second issue, you need a newer gvfs that comes with the gvfsd-mtp
backend instead of gphoto2. I'm not sure which version that is, though.

Once these two conditions are satisfied, your phone should work. At least, my
Samsung Galaxy S3, both with stock and CM10.1 firmware, works.

Bug#699651: RFS: mosquitto/1.1.2-1

2013-02-04 Thread Jakub Wilk

I don't indent to sponsor this package, but here's a quick review:

* Roger Light ro...@atchoo.org, 2013-02-02, 22:52:

 * Bumped standards release to 3.9.3. No changes needed.

Lintian says:
W: mosquitto source: out-of-date-standards-version 3.9.3 (current is 3.9.4)

 * Debhelper bumped to version 9 to help fix hardening-no-fortify-functions.

Well, it didn't fix it. Lintian emits:
W: libmosquitto1: hardening-no-relro usr/lib/libmosquitto.so.1
W: libmosquitto1: hardening-no-fortify-functions usr/lib/libmosquitto.so.1
W: mosquitto: hardening-no-fortify-functions usr/bin/mosquitto_passwd
W: mosquitto: hardening-no-fortify-functions usr/sbin/mosquitto

blhc confirms that at least some binaries were built without hardening.

 * Added upstart init script.
 * Modified normal init script to work if upstart is used.

Lintian says:
I: mosquitto: output-of-updaterc.d-not-redirected-to-dev-null mosquitto postinst
E: mosquitto: duplicate-updaterc.d-calls-in-postinst mosquitto

What is the build-dependency on python-setuptools for? AFAICS this
package doesn't use setuptools.

Both debian/rules and the top-level Makefile don't trap errors. See
Policy §4.6 for details.

Why do you need two for loops in debian/rules? They do exactly the same
thing.

You iterate over all supported Python 3 versions, but you build-depend
only on the default one.

Similarly, the python (= 2.6.6-3~), python2.7 build-dependency is not
sufficient. You want: python-all (= 2.7).

Why X-Python-Version: = 2.7? Upstream's setup.py says:
'Programming Language :: Python :: 2.6'

What happened to python-mosquitto's Depends?

Unless you have very good reasons, the -dev packages should be
unversioned.

License and copyright information for uthash.h is not included in
debian/copyright.

uthash is packaged separately in Debian. You should build
mosquitto against the uthash-dev package instead of the embedded copy.

mosquitto_passwd creates temporary files in current working directory in
a non-atomic way. This is insecure if cwd if world-writable (e.g. /tmp).
Moreover, rename() will fail if the password file is on a different
partition than cwd. (And it'll fail silently, since the return value is
ignored...)

Can't really see any sign of trouble there.

 Thanks,

The problem is still there in the Debian packages from openssh 6.0p1-3.
There is a workaround, which is to set the IUTF8 flag from the .ssh/rc
file when need be, but this needs to detect the locales via LC_* env
variables (e.g. by using locale charmap), which are not necessarily
correctly passed (e.g. due to Debian bug 313317 / OpenSSH bug 1346).

Note: the cooked mode itself doesn't mind about the value of the LC_*
env variables; this is just a terminal problem.

As per the upstream bug mentioned above, libmtp has some udev rules in
/lib/udev/rules.d/69-libmtp.rules that mark this specific device as an MTP
device. It then fails to handle it properly, and panics, causing Banshee to
crash. Apparently Amarok is also affected in that it hides these devices from

I guess /debian-cd/ do have its fair use for mirroring, especially for
mirrors that don't host the full archive of old stuff, but debian-cd
people may provide more rationale if they feel the need to.

Hi David,

Yes, that's exactly the reasoning. The official mirrors of debian-cd
need/want a single tree that they can mirror safely for just the
current release, and that's why we have the separation. The archive
area is simply meant to be a non-mirrored static archive of older
releases that we keep around for posterity. We also *don't* keep all
the full ISO images in that area for each release, relying instead on
jigdo for many of the old images.

2013-02-04 Thread thomas schorpp

As expectable, the (unhandled?) false returns from the NULL pointer fixes may
lead to kernel deadlock freezes and crashes in the ISRs.
Reproducing scenario: ctrl-c at capture startup, e.g.

Next try to fix it.

Future efforts should focus on the new kernel staging GPL driver.

Hi,

I am using debian-testing-i386-lxde-CD-1.iso 20130128-03:47 and other images
from the weekly builds and 16bit PCMCIA network and wireless cards are not
detected during the installation. I tried 5 different cards and all are not
working. 32bit Cardbus cards are not affected by this issue.

Hi Andreas,

The PCMCIA (lack of) support isn't anything we know about in
debian-cd. I'm reassigning this report to the installation-reports
pseudo-bug target for people in the debian-installer team to comment
on. I hope they know more!

Bug#699703: libguestfs0: make febootstrap a recommends

2013-02-04 Thread Richard W.M. Jones

There seems to be some confusion and misunderstanding in this bug
report.

First the facts:

(1) febootstrap is a general tool to build supermin appliances. It
has nothing to do with 'Fedora' -- the name is just an unfortunate
historical accident.

(2) On Fedora we split out 'febootstrap' (the part for building
supermin appliances from repositories) and
'febootstrap-supermin-helper' (the part for reconstructing supermin
appliances at runtime) as separate packages.

(3) On Fedora, libguestfs only depends at runtime on
febootstrap-supermin-helper which is a small C program that takes next
to no space. febootstrap is a build-time requirement only.

(4) If you are using supermin appliances, then
febootstrap-supermin-helper is very much required, even on Debian.

(5) If you are using fixed appliances, then
febootstrap-supermin-helper is not involved.
https://github.com/libguestfs/libguestfs/blob/master/src/appliance.c#L66

Second some observations arising:

(a) AFAIK Debian is still using the supermin appliance by default,
although it does build it in a slightly different way from how we do
it in Fedora. Nevertheless, febootstrap-supermin-helper is required
by Debian (see points (4), (5)).

(b) Because Debian builds the supermin appliance from the repository
at package installation time, febootstrap is also required.

(c) Individual users may decide to switch to using the fixed appliance
for performance reasons or whatever, but that doesn't mean that
febootstrap can be made an optional package for all Debian users. I
understand that 'Recommends' does not necessarily mean that the
package won't be installed, but I still think there is scope here for
an ordinary Debian user to break their libguestfs installation by
uninstalling febootstrap, and in any case there is no real reason to
uninstall febootstrap (see the next point).

(d) I don't understand why you wouldn't want febootstrap on your
institute[']s systems. It's a perfectly decent, fully free and
interesting tool which takes a unique and innovative approach to the
problem of packaging enormous virtual machines. It works on Debian
and a variety of other distros.
http://rwmj.wordpress.com/2009/10/22/supermin-appliance-now-in-febootstrap/

Bug#699754: grub core.img too large when using lvm+md

2013-02-04 Thread Thijs Kinkhorst
Package: release-notes
Severity: normal
Tags: wheezy

Hi Joost,

Filing a bug as discussed.

When I upgraded a desktop system from Squeeze to Wheezy, it failed to install
grub in my MBR. The reason given was probably along the lines of this:

warning: your core.img is unusually large. It won't fit in the embedding
area.
error: embedding is not possible, but this is required for RAID and LVM
install.

This worked in squeeze but in wheezy my system which has lvm and software raid
has tipped it over the line.

I have no exact log as to what I did, but it came down to booting from a UBCD,
converting my partition table to a GUID table so I could fit the thing in.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Thijs

Bug#699755: yui-compressor: Broken css with @charset

2013-02-04 Thread Roman V. Nikolaev
Package: yui-compressor
Version: 2.4.2-2
Severity: normal

I use At-rule @charset for CSS (http://www.w3.org/TR/CSS21/syndata.html#at-
rules). Then I apply compressor for my css file browser get it as broken and
don`t apply any styles.

I think for at-rules yui-compressor must save \n.

Reproduce:
1. CSS file main.css looks like this:

@charset UTF-8;
h1 { color: blue }

2. yui-compressor --type css main.css, you get:

@charset UTF-8;h1{color:blue;}

3. Iceweasel 18.0 don`t apply any styles from main.css

I sadly deleted my buildd folder a few days ago. Anyway I guess the whole

dput's now running on both in a screen. Hopefully that helps.

Bug#680469: status of lxc in debian wheezy (was: Re: [Freedombox-discuss] jails in Debian?)

2013-02-04 Thread Rob van der Hoeven
  For Wheezy it's this bug:

  http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=680469

Already solved, but not in time for the release-freeze.

I see, thanks. The initial submitter gave this bug Severity: normal. Do you
feel this bug makes lxc unusable, or mostly so? If there's agreement on that,
we could try to make a proposed update for the lxc package in wheezy. See
 also
 http://release.debian.org/wheezy/rc_policy.txt .

I think most Debian users want Debian LXC containers. This is not
possible in the upcoming Wheezy release. So yes, i think this bug
severely cripples LXC. Already contacted its maintainer about this, but
i had the impression that he had tried but could do nothing about the
situation. Also put a request on the release mailing list to temporarily
un-freeze LXC so the fix could be in Wheezy (Got no reply there).

Alternatively, a paragraph could be added to the wheeze release notes.

Most users will try LXC a long time after they installed Wheezy when
they have forgotten about the release notes (if they had read the
release notes at all). So a release note will not solve the problem.

People expect that programs that are in a Debian release are tested and
functioning. I think its bad to ship LXC in the state that it is
currently in. Solve the problem or remove LXC from Wheezy, do not let
users wondering why LXC does not work on their machine.

just a few more infos:

There's a new dedicated website: http://libwebsockets.org

  Note: there's also a fork at https://github.com/davidgaleano/libwebsockets
I don't know which version should be best packaged. I favor the original
one unless we find good reasons to use the other one.

Most of the important stuff got merged in the original libwebsockets so I
would not consider packaging the fork.

I'll try to take a look at it, it looks interesting.

Great, thank you for your contribution to Debian!

You can blame me. I forgot to make a backup copy of all .changes before
changing the queued setup a bit (which unlike dak actually removes files
it doesn't like).

I mentioned it on IRC in #-buildd, but didn't write a mail for the
binary-only uploads as planned.

The lost binary-only uploads are

 * pygtk_2.24.0-3+b1_i386.changes
 * bitcoin_0.7.2-2_kfreebsd-amd64.changes
 * partman-efi_34_i386.changes
 * iceape_2.7.12-1_s390.changes
 * iceape_2.7.12-1_powerpc.changes

and

 * glusterfs_3.2.7-4_*.changes
Note: -5 was already uploaded. So this doesn't matter.

Four sourceful uploads were also lost, but those are already sorted out.

I sadly deleted my buildd folder a few days ago. Anyway I guess the whole
upload failed because the iceape-dbg is huge and the upload was cut off

The log files for queued are now rotated. Older entries can be found in

 Dear Maintainer,

I went into system settings/gnome-control-centre, and set the brightness to
minimum. However, when I reboot, or log out, it reverts to maximum brightness.
This also happens sometimes over long periods when I haven't logged out, for
example when I leave it long enough to suspend (although not when I suspend
it). I have searched the web for similar bugs and believe it to be a gnome
 bug.
It may be related to another similar bug, in which the brightness short-cut,
fn-down, on my keyboard only reduces the brightness about a fifth of the way
 to
 minimum.

Sounds like a problem in gnome-settings-daemon no re-applying the
correct brightness setting on login or gnome-control-center not storing
the brigthness setting correctly.

Do you use a multi-monitor setup?

Bug#680469: Fw: Re: [Freedombox-discuss] status of lxc in debian wheezy (was: Re: jails in Debian?)

2013-02-04 Thread Wookey
See below for a problem that has come up on the freedombox list.

It seems that this bug should have been marked at least serious and
probably RC all along. This is quite an important package to have
working as it enables a lot of other stuff. And there is already a fix
available. However that fix is mixed in with a pile of others in
0.8.0~rc1-9 and 0.8.0~rc1-10, so what would be needed would be a patch
for the current 0.8.0~rc1-8+deb7u1 with just this fix in it for
consideration of the release team. Looking at the diffs between these
versions it does not look difficult to produce and I can do that if
it'll be useful.

I've confirmed that this problem still exists in the current wheezy
version (for wheezy containers as well as sid ones).

Does the team agree that this is an RC issue (it looks like one to
me)? and given a patch fixing only this issue is this something the
release team would consider eligible for wheezy? (Yes, I know it
would have been better if this had been marked RC 6 months ago).

connected (I have of course tested this on sid). Unfortuantely, I am not
expert in the javascript code of the applet. So I am a little helpless
 on it.

Unfortunately I don't know the cinnamon code base at all, so I can't
really help you there. I would just try to search for the relevant parts
in the code (most likely
files/usr/share/cinnamon/applets/netw...@cinnamon.org/applet.js) and
port over the changes accordingly.

Do you know whether your patch for network-manager is going to be pushed
 upstream?

Most probably not, since it's currently relying on a Debian specific
patch to network-manager in Debian.
