Bug#724731: [gdm3] gdm does not start properly, cannot login via gdm
Package: gdm3 Version: 3.8.4-3 Followup-For: Bug #724731 I managed to solve by removing and reinstalling the following packages, as suggested in commment 71: gnome-core gnome-shell gdm3 gnome-session When I reinstalled, I see more packages than those removed. Maybe it's a hint to find the culprit of this bug? Bug#724731: More....
Hello, The blank screen after login problem looks like as if gdm does not leave output so that the graphical desktop is not shown. Because in the processlist, all gnome apps start running. I also managed to wait a very long time, and was able to see screen garbage and rendering problems, if I moved the mouse over the positions of some desktop icons where I expect them to be, since they are behind the blank screen and normally invisible. Can it be, that gdm somehow cannot communicate correctly with the x-server? The problem does not exist on my intel-graphics notebook but only on my nvidia workstation. All packages are on both systems at the same version. Do you need the output of some tools that may help you solve the issue? Regards, Yusuf

By downgrading and issuing the command nginx -V I can confirm the presence of upload-module which is absent in the backported version. The nginx upload module no longer works with recent nginx versions and has been removed since 1.4.0. You are right that it is still included in nginx-extras package description. Bug#729042: gajim: Self-signed SSL certificates are lost on exit
Package: gajim Version: 0.15.4-1 Severity: normal I run my own ejabberd server, with a self-signed certificate. After creating an account there (outside Gajim), I can connect Gajim to that account, and I get a dialog warning me about the unknown certificate (SSL Error: Unable to get local issuer certificate). This is expected. If I click OK, I can connect and chat normally. Going offline and back online, I get the dialog again, and I can click OK again and connect again. If I exit Gajim and restart it, I get the dialog again, and clicking OK allows me to connect again. So far, so good. Now if at any time I tick the Ignore the error for this certificate checkbox in the dialog before clicking OK, I can connect and chat. But I can only connect once: as soon as I go offline (or restart Gajim), trying to connect again doesn't display the dialog (which is expected), but the connection doesn't proceed. Bug#729045: New improved version - gcompris 13.11 released at November 2, please update and add gcompris-sound-lt Debian package
Package: gcompris Version: 12.11-1 New upstream version - gcompris 13.11 released at November 4, see http://gcompris.net This release includes Lithuanian voices (see /boards/voices/lt/), please add gcompris-sound-lt deb package. Major features in 13.11 release: * A new activity in the reading section that presents a set of image, text and voice to children and an exercise set around them. This includes about 1000 images and voices in English, Spanish, French, and Gaelic-Scottish. * A rework of many text related activities to support multigraph languages. This is driven by a team of Gaelic-Scottish users. * Added the font face use in GCompris in the skin configuration file. It is possible to select another font by manually changing it with one installed on your system. For example, In boards/skin/babytoy/skin.xml find the line font id=gcompris/fontface name=sans and replace sans by ruluko. Bug fixes: * there is now a simplified version of the submarine activity, now there is an easy first level. Added tooltips to explain items. * Fixed a crash case after leaving intro and land_safe activity. * New country map of Scotland by Fòram na Gàidhlig. * Fixed colors values in the advanced color activity. This page reports the old and new value. * Added support for remembering last passed level by Roopesh Shenoy. With this option when the children enters an activity the last succeeded level is proposed. * Added Central America and Oceania geography map by GunChleoc * Independent wordlist for reading activities by GunChleoc * Now the intro voice is played when help is clicked. * Fixed a bug which makes the administration menu missing Translations Updated Brazilian Portuguese, Breton, Czech, Danish, French, Galician, German, Greek, Hungarian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Polish, Russian, Scottish Gaelic, Serbian, Serbian Latin, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Tamil. -- Labanaktis/Good luck, Mantas Kriaučiūnas Jabber ID: man...@akl.ltGPG ID: 43535BD5 Public organization Open Source for Lithuania - www.akl.lt Geriausios biuro programos verslui ir namams - http://openoffice.lt Prekyba naujais ir atnaujintais kompiuteriais su Linux OS - http://tinklas.eu Naudok Baltix GNU/Linux sistemą savo kompiuteryje - http://baltix.lt -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#728015: [nginx] Don't use type=forking in systemd service file
On Sun, Oct 27, 2013 at 05:32:48PM +0100, Adrien CLERC wrote: Package: nginx Version: 1.4.3-2 Severity: minor --- Please enter the report below this line. --- Hi, In the systemd service file, the two following directive are used: Type=forking PIDFile=/run/nginx.pid However, when running systemd, it's easier to let systemd handle the PID stuff, and tell the program not to fork itself. Moreover, we can have a situation when the user changes the PID file location in the configuration file located at /etc/nginx/nginx.conf Thus, I recommend removing them, and disabling nginx forking with the directive daemon off. See attached unit file. It is of course opened to discussion. I tried to find any side-effect of daemon off, but the documentation doesn't mention any. This would also break the nginx upgrade mechanism which is used for package updates (postinst script) in order to upgrade the nginx binary without dropping connections. Using the current approach systemd understands that the pid has changed correctly, probably by monitoring the pid file and the upgrade behaves as expected. Actually there is a patch that will be included in the next release that fixes this behaviour. This means that there is an unescaped - in the man page source code. Normally xmlto handles minus-signs / hyphens pretty well. The issue only occurs at _one_ position. I figured out that this expression varlistentry id=AlternateShell term-s replaceable class=parametershell/replaceable/term listitem para SomeText /para /listitem /varlistentry [...] SomeText (xref linkend=AlternateShell/) MoreText [...] ends up with a minus sign as hyphen in the man page (the xref uses the content of the term tag and that -s is placed as -s on the man page. However, when I use a slightly changed XML code for the xref link... [...] SomeText ( xref linkend=AlternateShell/) MoreText [...] ^^^ NOTE THE INSERTED SPACE HERE then the generated man page looks ok, the -s gets placed as \-s on the man page and the no minus-sign-as-hyphen issue is not reported by lintian anymore. Maybe someone has a clue, how this can be amended. For example on spice is needed jpeglib.h, present on upstream source but not on -dev package even renamed. Thanks for any reply. The requested file (jpeglib.h) is part of the IJG Jpeg compat ABI/API available in Turbo-JPEG. At the time being, these files are not package in Debian (see [1]). Bug#690090: following up to 701954
I believe this bug is the same that manifests in #701954. Some personal stuff got in the way and I was unable to post my results of Till Kamppeter's suggested tests. That bug has been archived and I can no longer post to it. In that bug report, I posted a workaround that corrects the misbehavior for all programs that want to print. Till Kamppeter, could we pick up where we left off in #701954? The results of the tests were as follows: 1a. Incorrect. Print offset 10mm up and 10mm right. 1b. Incorrect. Print offset 10mm up and 10mm right. 1c. Almost correct. Print is offset about 1mm to the right, sometimes more. 2. This caused the printer to eject all the paper in the input tray and ask for more. -- David Griffith d...@661.org -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. I take your point about avoiding injection attacks, though, given that some of these can be supplied by the client; I assume your concern is that somebody could inject a different host name in their failure and thus evade bans. How about just using .*? in the middle rather than .*, then? The true host name will always come first. That would result in: ^%(__prefix_line)sFailed \S+ for .*? from HOST(?: port \d*)?(?: ssh\d*)? Bug#727716: testing fdroidserver
hello hans-christoph, i've tested the fdroidserver from your git repository, albeit in a slightly unconventional way: i'd prefer to have a completely free build environment, so i'm using the replicant sdk from [1] instead of the usual android sdk. this showed a problem with discovering the aapt path: (reporting this to the itp instead of to a dedicated bug as the package is still in NEW). $ fdroid init Reading config.py... Enter the path to the Android SDK (/opt/android-sdk): /tmp/replicant/replicant-sdk_linux-x86 Traceback (most recent call last): File /usr/bin/fdroid, line 63, in module main() File /usr/bin/fdroid, line 59, in main mod.main() File /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/fdroidserver/init.py, line 153, in main if os.path.isfile(aapt): UnboundLocalError: local variable 'aapt' referenced before assignment that is due to aapt not being shipped in `build-tools/$VERSION` but in `platform-tools` in the replicant sdk. (given your comment in 459219, that part would need an extension to detect a natively installed aapt too, and ideally not even mention it in the config). with that set up, i was able to build an fdroid application (net.sylvek.sharemyposition) with minimal modifications (setting target=android-15 from target=android-11), and to install it on an android device. given that, there is reason to assume that the infrastructure of a full featured f-droid server can be properly shipped in main. (full-featured as far as replicant is a full-featured android sdk). but that's probably something i'd rather report to #459219... thanks for packaging fdroidserver chrysn [1] http://ftp.osuosl.org/pub/replicant/sdk/replicant-4.0/0001/sdk/replicant-sdk_linux-x86.zip -- To use raw power is to make yourself infinitely vulnerable to greater powers. -- Bene Gesserit axiom signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Package: phonon Version: 4:4.7.0.0-2 Severity: normal The volume control in amarok seems to have no use at all. I've tested the VLC and Gstreamer backend and it is not changing my volume at all. Bug#727708: Arguments for tech-ctte (Was: Proposal: let’s have a GR about the init system)
Additional arguments in favor of sysvinit: * systemd and upstart lead to vendor lock-in; it will be complicated later to return back or change to third option, as well to change from first to second option * I don't have a feeling that configuration can be very simpler than shell scripts; there are things such as 'events' and such things have to be properly defined) * If OpenRC's development continues in good direction, Debian could switch to OpenRC * If our shell scripts are a mess, then we should clean up the mess, not trying to escape it by changing whole init system; more precisely, we should correct mistakes we made in past, such as not enough abstraction * existing software (sysvinit+initscripts) can be enhanced: (1) add new features to sysvinit; e.g. start-stop-daemon could be extended, to return only when service is ready, or if timeout exceeds to return with error status (2) add new software in addition to sysvinit (3) make init scripts more correct (abstraction) (4) extend configurability (more options in /etc/default/*) (3) makes (4) easily possible If sysvinit is in accord with UNIX philosophy, and as they say it is, than I don't see why (1) and (2) would not be possible, too, and with not to much effort. * What is alleged to be disadvantages of sysvinit (lack of features), is not really to blame sysvinit, because it does one thing and do it right. Other features could be implemented as additional software. On the other hand, what actually was done was writing new software that make old software obsolete and that do *many* things, which is not in accord with UNIX philosophy. * More complex software has more bugs, old software is cleaned out of original bugs, and new software is not. * Software that is not well commented is hard to understand and find bugs For more details: http://lists.debian.org/20131108125545.1b43f...@eunet.rs http://lists.debian.org/20131108134841.71563...@eunet.rs http://lists.debian.org/20131105234316.4407f...@eunet.rs http://lists.debian.org/20131106135535.7d091...@eunet.rs http://lists.debian.org/20131103102302.42493...@eunet.rs -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#459219: testing fdroidserver
hello android packagers, due to the recent packaging of fdroidserver (#727716, waiting in NEW), i tried to get an impression on what can currently be done in debian with android. as i object to using non-free build systems to build free software, i used nothing but the pre-built replicant sdk [1] (single zip file) fdroidserver with its dependencies (and suggests and recommends). some tuning in android targets is necessary when using the fully-automated fdroid apk build system, but apart from that, things seem to work. so my point / impression is: * there is an sdk that can build at least some android applications and is free software. * one of the things that makes android packaging difficult is the whole installer / download dance that has to be done due to nonfree licenses involved. therefore, to the list of software this collective rfp describes, i'd add the replicant sdk, for it can be built and installed like we are used to.[2] when the android sdk is then completely packaged as an installer (or gets released under a free license again), they can coexist by providing a common android-sdk package name / using alternatives. best regards chrysn [1] http://ftp.osuosl.org/pub/replicant/sdk/replicant-4.0/0001/sdk/replicant-sdk_linux-x86.zip [2] more or less; it's definitely not a `./configure make make install`, but at least it's documented at [3] [3] http://redmine.replicant.us/projects/replicant/wiki/SDKBuild -- To use raw power is to make yourself infinitely vulnerable to greater powers. -- Bene Gesserit axiom signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#729072: Leaves behing /var/spool/postfix/spamass after purge
Package: spamass-milter Version: 0.3.2-1 Severity: serious If spamass-milter is run together with postfix the init script creates /var/spool/postfix/spamass, but this directory is not removed on purge (or when the daemon is stopped). Bug#729069: rsync: Please provide an rsync udeb
Package: rsync Version: 3.0.9-4 Severity: wishlist Dear Maintainer, Being able to anna-install rsync (or rsync-udeb) would occasionally be very useful when using d-i in rescue mode. I had a collegue asking how to get this working yesterday and thinking back there have been occasions where I would have liked it too. In the absence of the udeb things like http://lackof.org/taggart/hacking/d-i-tricks/ Cloning another system via rsync/ssh get suggested, which (I suppose, I usually end up finding some other way to rescue the system) work but are not all that convenient. It may be that rsync would require lots of libraries which are not present in the d-i environment, in which case I'd understand if you were to close this won't fix (actually, I'd quite understand that in the general case too). Check out http://github.com/fail2ban/fail2ban and if you see that it is not working for you. I don't think it's really a good idea to special-case all of these, because these are quite likely to be adjusted or extended in future.
