severity 629351 grave
thanks

As this bug makes GNOME desktop environment unusable, IMHO it
justifies grave severity. Please review the patch and comment.

Hi, I just tried rebuilding emacs23 in my loongson box, and both emacs23

related to my custom kernel or an updated binutils version

 more information is needed.

I just wanted to check back about this bug and see if you still felt
like there was a problem here, or if it might be appropriate for me to
 close it.

I just tried to install the latest version of both emacs23 and
emacs23-nox flavors and they both installed without problem. I guess
we can now close this bug with version 23.3+1-4. Thanks.

 Thanks

Bug#629351: Segfault on startup (Loongson2F mipsel system)

If the problem is the same as the one on ia64, I can apply the same
 workaround.

I suppose mips is affected too?

The situation is that I can't confirm whether g-s-d 3.0+ is still
affected before I fix the X server of my mipsel box. I'll add more
information once that is done.

Thanks. It crashes in the plugin register_type macro, which explains why
it is the case for all plugins.

Does it happen with 3.0 from experimental too? The plugin registration
 code was greatly simplified.

It seems upgrading to 3.0 triggers a lot of removal of gnome package.
Is there any recommended steps to upgrade to 3.0 packages?

fixed, but I can't find the archived bug. HTH.

can you please try reproducing it using the version in experimental, 2.3.1

Currently I only have a mipsel box that runs Debian and 2.3.1RC1 is

Just have time to upgrade the mipsel box to 2.3.1RC1, and the problem
is gone. Seems 2.3.1 RC1 is not affected. Feel free to close the bug.

Actually, installing package emacs23 works fine, only installing
emacs23-nox fails with the above assertion.

Also, it looks like a memory corruption. Have you tried to reboot the
   machine? A different kernel?

I have tried rebooting, no luck. Installing on my amd64 sid virtual
machine works without problem, so looks like it is mips* specific.

FYI, this is a loongson2f laptop, so both the kernel and binutils have
been patched to work with this kind of machine, and related patches are
being review for integration with upstream kernel source. I don't know
whether those patches have any impact on this problem.

What kind of patch is needed to binutils? Binutils contains the tool to
generated the binaries, so if the patch changes the generated code, it
means that Debian is simply not compatible with the loongson2f.

I noticed the following in the binutils (2.20.1-6) changelog:

* Backport fixups of Loongson2F from the trunk.

Deng, does rebuilding emacs23 with the current binutils help?

Rebuilt with current binutils, now it did make emacs23-nox installable
on my loongson2f-based machine. So this should be a loongson2f specific
problem. I wonder whether a binNMU will be helpful, as I don't know
whether the patch works on non-loongson2f based machine.

Feel free to close this bug or handle it as appropriate.

Xiyue Deng

This assertion failure happens in libc6. I'm inclined to reassign the
bug, but I'll leave this to more knowledgeable people. The fact that
the eglibc testsuite is currently disabled on mipsel¹ does not exactly
increase confidence in the libc6 package on that architecture.

The testsuite has been disabled due to broken buildds, not due to a
broken package. It is actually run when build on a different machines
than the build daemons, and it passes without any problem, provided you
have a recent kernel (lenny one for example).

CC'ing the currently registered translators for Simplified
Chinese. Could you guys look at Yixuan's objections?

That translation may have been done before I took over. If the
command-line action is never translated, it is pointless to translate
them in the --help message as the translated action won't work at all
and may confuse users. So I guess it'd better to keep them untranslated.

Thanks for the notice.

Bug#549978: libgtkmm-2.4-doc: devhelp documentation has wrong base path

The devhelp documentation for gtkmm doesn't work because devhelp looks in the
wrong place for the API reference. The devhelp file specifies a base path of
/usr/share/doc/gtkmm-2.4/reference/html, but the debian package installs the
 files into /usr/share/doc/libgtkmm-2.4-doc/reference/html

I believe there may be a configure switch for specifying a custom install path
for the devhelp file but I'm not sure.

Works here.

Actually /usr/share/doc/gtkmm-2.4 does exist as a symlink to
/usr/share/doc/libgtkmm-2.4-doc:

$ dpkg -L libgtkmm-2.4-doc|grep /usr/share/doc/gtkmm-2.4
/usr/share/doc/gtkmm-2.4

Please try reinstall and test again. Thanks.

gnome requires gnome-games which leads to even more bloat. Surely
gnome-games (and probably other stuff) should be optional? Or do we need
 a gnome-minimal package?

That is why there are gnome-desktop-environment and gnome-core.

But not in the -dev .deb file:
 http://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/main/g/gstreamermm/libgstreamermm-0.10-dev_0.10.1-1_i386.deb

Maybe the packager tried to do an autogen.sh, which regenerates source
files, and the results of which are very dependent on what packages are
 installed.

It does exist in my box:

$ dpkg -L libgstreamermm-0.10-dev | grep videosink.h
/usr/include/gstreamermm-0.10/gstreamermm/videosink.h

According to the experimental build log on i386[1], it does get included

There is libboost1.38-dev in squeeze since April 14th. Boost in Debian
has been versioned since 1.35.0. Similarly you can find 1.35.0, 1.37.0

Bug#452742: bug#452742: astyle: Please provide the shared library

2009-04-06 Thread Deng Xiyue
Package: astyle
Version: 1.22-2
Severity: normal

I've done some preliminary work to ship the shared and static libraries
of astyle as a first try. .diff.gz and interdiff is attached. Please
note:

1. The libraries are shipped in the astyle package instead of a separate
one, as it doesn't follow the standard way of handling libraries.

2. Due to the various build flavor of CFLAGS*, the default ones are
used, which makes it consistant with upstream and should work when
rebuilding using noopt.

tegaki is on the way, it is based on scim-python (a handwriting input method)
 ref: http://tinyurl.com/dkusa9

Are tegaki upstream aware of the fact that scim-python has a dead
upstream? They are better informed so they might decide to migrate to
ibus instead of depending on an obsoleted component.

 ibus 0.1 is maintained in
 https://launchpad.net/~lidaobing/+archive/ppa/ (part of them already
 get into ubuntu 9.04)
ibus 1.1 is maintained in https://launchpad.net/~ibus-dev/+archive/ppa/
the debian new queue is too long, and it's hard to find a sponsor, and
the upstream is still release new version frequently, so I did not
 file a RFS on debian-mentors

I'd bet foka will help to sponsor, though he is very busy these days,
and the NEW queue quarantine will be uneasy anyway.

9-12pt range, and according to the discussion[1], the maintainer agreed
to disable 66-wqy-zenhei-sharp.conf, so please keep it that way.

Bug#517407: Possible incorrect malloc_pageshift for mips

2009-02-27 Thread Deng Xiyue
Package: tor
Version: 0.2.0.34-1.1
Severity: important
Tags: patch

When trying to install tor on Loongson 2F yeelong laptop, which is
based on mipsel architecture, the installation fails saying that
malloc() replacement compiled with different page size (detailed
install log attached). HelloWorld on lemote bbs provided a fix[1]
that let mips arch use malloc_pageshift 14U (also attached) that makes
tor successfully installed on Yeelong laptop.

However, I'm not sure whether this happens on all mipsel architecture
or only on the Loongson 2F platform, as you can see the kernel is
customly built. It'll be great if mipsel port maintainers can help
check its installability and then decide whether to include the fix.
Thanks.

Same sympton on similar platform, which are Loongson2F-based. No luck
with -safe-mode switch. The bt full generated by bug-buddy is
attached.

Though this means icedove is completely unusable on mipsel and should
warrant grave, I doubt it might be related to the customly compiled
kernel, which is required to boot Loongson2F system, hence leave the
severity non-RC. Tell me if further information is required for

 Hello,

the support for R300 cards has ended for a longer time. You should use
 the opensource radeon driver instead.

This is not a bug because it is also stated in the packages description,
that it is a driver for r5xx - r7xx cards.

The release note[1] of ati driver 8-12 still lists all R300 series
(including all desktop and mobility radeon 9500~9800 cards) in its
supported product families. But well, the release note might be wrong
as well, so it'll be helpful if link to the statement of the end of
support for r3xx series can be provided, and then this bug can be closed
:)

Bug#500719: Update to mpg123 version 1.5.1

2008-12-12 Thread Deng Xiyue
retitle 500719 New upstream release 1.6.2
thanks.

To avoid interference with Lenny release, newer version can be
prepared on experimental.

As for the new functionality, for instance, development version of
xmms2 now supports mpg123 output plugin based on libmpg123 = 1.5.1.
Though there won't be new upload for development xmms2 for Lenny,
users can prepare their own easier if newer mpg123 is already in
Debian.

Also note that 1.6.2 has been released.

Now apt-utils 0.7.19 brings back libdb4.4 again, at least on i386.
Hope it's just a unclean build environment. If it is the case, it'll
be great for apt maintianers to consider using clean chroot like
pbuilder so that it won't happen again.

According to upstream trac ticket, this problem does exist in 1.36.0,
and slipped out of 1.37.0, but proposed patch should already be
applied in trunk, which will be 1.38.0. Will we provide backports for
1.36/1.37 in Debian or just let it be to match upstream behavior? I'm
fine on both :)

And, sorry for this, but I won't have time in the next days to do

IMHO scheduling a binNMU should be enough to handle this.

Bug#434180: Pre-approval for scim NMU

2008-10-17 Thread Deng Xiyue
Hi Release Managers:

I'd like to prepare an NMU for scim to fix bug#434180[1], which causes lock
up with setting /FrontEnd/X11/Dynamic = false in various programs when
using {GTK,QT}_IM_MODULE=xim. Changing that setting to true helps,
but will disable support for deadkeys. The patch[2] provided by the
maintainer has been tested at my place for a long enough period with no
regression, and it'll be really beneficial to have this bug fixes for
Lenny. So I'd like to ask for approval to upload from Release Managers,
and, as it fixes important bug, a pre-approval for Lenny freeze
exception.

However, the main maintainer Ming Hua seems quite busy these days, and
my last followup[3] to the bug CCing Osamu several weeks ago hasn't be
replied. So, though the package is not listed in LowNMU list, I'd also
like to ask Release Team for the permission to prepare an NMU. CCing
Ming Hua and Osamu Aoki in case it can got their attention.

Thanks.

Regards,
Deng Xiyue

Please also make sure not to cause negative impact to other dependent

The patch is specific to scim and shouldn't break reverse dependent

Does this patch used in upstream VCS or distribued in other distro
(ubuntu? redhat?). How is the BTS on their sites?

It seems to discard keyboad queue. I have no idea what impacts it
causes. It is high risk unless it is tested widly.

Unless you have facts to support goodness of this patch on several
popular platforms of SCIM (not just one chinese IM), how can we be sure
this does not break things. I was expecting a bit more testing etc.
 from you.

Indeed. The really problem resides in libX11, and the libX11 patch in
the same bug report is the real fix. The one I mentioned is just a
workaround in scim side. See below.

As I reread your bug report, massive tab is the case you expeienced
input locking. Is this SCIM problem? Are you sure? Did you make some
analysys using GDB to prove it?

I have sort-of freeze situation sometimes but that is when I have
keyboard accessibility enabler capability via keyboard option set. Of
course by discarding input queue, system will not cause such problem but
that is not right thing to do. Just unclick gnome option for that or
carefully shrink windows to find prompt from accessibility program and
disable its activation. (I know it was annoying ...)

As I also see that libX11 issue. It has been updated since then. Do
 you know the situation?

Sorry for this, as I'm not subscribed to bug#437437, which I should, and
#434180 is not blocked by it, I wasn't aware the proper fix has gone in
libx11, where the really cause located. That should be sufficient for
this problem. As since then, I switched to scim-immodule and
scim-bridge, I haven't tried xim yet. Thanks for this information.

According to my test in the last hour using unpatched scim, those common
approach to reproduce the problem are invalid now. Plus the feedback in
launchpad bug report, and other BTS such as fedora, I think now this bug
can be reassigned to libx11 and marked as done with

Source-Version: 2:1.1.4-1

As for the accessibility problem you mention, it might because the fix
for libx11 side is incomplete, but I'm not the expert in this regard.

I have to say that I may not be the most technical maintainer of this
package thus very conservative to deviate from the upstream. The
information provided is not sufficient to make last moment upload.

I am open to change my mind when sufficien support facts are presented.

I appreciate your precaution, and hopefully this bug has already been
fixed. So please consider this mail as withdrawal of my scim NMU
pre-approve request. Thanks Osamu.

 Osamu

Bug#501879: mutt-patched: segfault when logging in gmail imap

2008-10-11 Thread Deng Xiyue
Package: mutt-patched
Version: 1.5.18-4
Severity: important

Mutt-patched will segfault immediately when trying to login my gmail
imap boxes, while mutt counter-part won't. I've got a backtrace with
mutt-dbg package installed, and it's pointing to the following line in
sidebar patch:

+short delim_len = strlen(SidebarDelim);

The full backtrace is attached.

Though such segmentation fault should be qualified as RC, mutt-patched
is not quite official upstream product, so I guess it doesn't has to
postpone Lenny any further.

Sorry for not noticing your patch for a very long time. A one-month

Bug#498260: Pinyin module unavailable

2008-09-08 Thread Deng Xiyue
Package: scim-python
Version: 0.1.12-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

It seems scim-python was built with pinyin disabled, which makes this
package completely useless. It is known that the building of pinyin
module will result in downloading a word db which might be problematic
to license issue, but it's better to have a switch to disable building
this wordlist instead of creating an eunuch ;)

Though IMHO the justification for RC bug is sufficient, feel free to
downgrade it if the situation is not going to change in the nearing
future.

idA libsmbclient -2220kB 3.0.25a-1 3.0.25a-2

   i - 已安装
   E - 内部错误(这不应该发生)

  软件包的“动作”标签有以下可能的值:

   h - 保持
   p - 清除
   d - 删除(卸载)
   B - 损坏
   i - 安装

make a few more changes, as I noted in my last mail. Also, what's the
situation for other languages? I guess that at least Chinese suffers
from this problem; I'll Cc the most recent Chinese translators for
aptitude. What about other non-ASCII locales? Korean? Thai? Khmer?
 I have no clue.

Would it make sense to always recognize Yes (untranslated) as a

is available), but it would at least let users proceed if they're in
this situation. I think this was suggested in one of the earlier mails
 in this thread.

IMHO, such a fallback is really beneficial for usability, while allow
users to use translated strings as well.

As for the ugliness, I think appending a (Yes), (No), (Yes, I am
aware that this is a very bad idea) to the original string without
exposing them to .po files makes them explicit, and hence less ugly.

Bug#497272: Please extend scrollkeeper mapping

2008-08-31 Thread Deng Xiyue
Package: doc-base
Version: 0.8.16
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Currently the scrollkeeper.map file contains so limited mapping for
scrollkeeper that a large number of doc-base documents doesn't generate
scrollkeeper omf file, which keep them from available for scrollkeeper
document browsers, such as yelp. It'll be good to cover all available
doc-base sections in the scrollkeeper.map file.

I've provided a draft scrollkeeper.map file that contains all current
doc-base sections and mapped to scrollkeeper sections that exists in
original map file. Sure it should be revised to take advantage of all
scrollkeeper sections, but it can be a start point.

Though I'm not a maintainer of tasksel stuff, I think it's valid to
suggest the same to be done for Chinese(both simplified and traditional)
and Korean tasks as well, so that we save some bug number count :)

hardlinks rather than symlinks considering dpkg behavior wrt symlinked
dirs.

You can't hardlink directories though, so we might as well symlink the
   individual files.

I'd like this fix included in lenny so that we don't see a regression
in Debian for Japanese users.

There was a package in the NEW queue 'poppler-data' which should
really have fixed this bug.
http://ftp-master.debian.org/new/poppler-data_0.2.0-1.html

That going into Debian sid would fix this bug also, but not quite sure
if it's reasonable to expect a new package to enter Debian lenny.

I kinda think it's in poppler's domain to fix this; logically
xpdf-japanese (etc) exists only to enhance xpdf. poppler-data appears to
   be a good solution.

  1. poppler was theoretically self-contained, poppler-data was REJECTed
once and not yet part of non-free as of today.

  2. Japanese users upgrading from etch would have xpdf-japanese
installed because evince (poppler) needed and used xpdf-japanese, and
natural upgrade path would be xpdf-japanese supporting poppler.

These factors make adding support in poppler somewhat reasonable.

If the release managers would approve an update to xpdf-japanese I am
happy to upload a new version including your patch, or for you to NMU
 the package.

Which means the same should be done in
xpdf-{chinese-{simplified,tranditional},korean} as well, and all will be
unnecessary once poppler-data get accepted. I kind of think that's not
a good way to deal with it. But well, just my 2 cents.

You also need the release managers ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) to

Adding debian-release@ to CC, though it's unclear to me whether non-free
package is in the realm of Release Team administration, and it'll be
great to be directed to the right place to deal with the issue if it's
not the case.

FWIW, it is important to know whether the Release Team will make a lenny
freeze exception for poppler-data which is a new package. Though it
does break the Lenny release criterion, it's the best solution to avoid
duplicated and unnecessary work at present and in future. So release
team, please consider an unorthodox freeze exception for poppler-data.
Thanks.

 Hi debian-maintainers administrators:

Due to a mistake of my backup script during a recent system backup, all
my ~/.* are lost, including my private key of my original gpg key,
except my revocation certification survived because it's backed up at
another place not affected. That is quite unfortunate, and as the large
amount of restored data, I doubted the key would survive, so I gave up
trying to restore it. Then immediately I revoked my old key, and then
regenerated a new one, and contacted my local DD Anthony Fok(CCed) to
resign it after a face-to-face reidentification. Though it's really bad
to lost the private key of gpg key, it is assured the original key is not
compromised, just lost forever. I'm sorry for such event, and will take
more efforts to prevent it from happening again.

So DM admins, please replace my original key[1] with my new key[2].
 Thanks.

Please read the information about key replacement at:

Thanks for the hint. I'm now attaching the jetring-gen'd changesets.
As for the revocation certificate, it was destroyed when my original key
was successfully revoked. Hope that won't be a problem.

As for item 3 to contact DD to provide my fingerprints, I guess I have
to go to Anthony as well, since he is the only DD I can get in touch.
Anthony, sorry to bring you in this mess.

Bug#487348: GPG Key changed for Deng Xiyue

2008-06-20 Thread Deng Xiyue
Subject: GPG Key changed for Deng Xiyue
Package: debian-maintainers
Version: 1.36
Severity: important

Thanks.

next time all words created last time are gone. New upstream version

Bug#473360: [INTL:zh_CN] Simplified Chinese translation update

2008-05-03 Thread Deng Xiyue
retitle 473360 [INTL:zh_CN] Simplified Chinese translation update
thanks

Hi apt maintainers:

This bug was filed against apt 0.7.11, and even 0.7.13 doesn't include
its updated translation. It contains an important fix for a wrong
c-format sequence translation. Please include it in the next release of
apt. Thanks.

After some test, it seems all files contains non-ascii characters
disappear from shared file list. This is a serious regression. The GUI
program and older version doesn't suffer from this. And rerun the GUI
program will have all those lost files rehashed.

Uh, I CCed you, otherwise I wouldn't have mentioned you. If you'd rather
than I didn't CC/ping you at all, please say?

It has nothing to do with the daemon or the monolithic, what is your
locale? Also, are you trying to download to a vfat partition?

Ooh, right on spot. On Debian systems amuled gets started via a normal
init.d script, and those don't have the configured $LANG set.

So, I guess I'll just have to do something so that LANG is set to an
 appropriate value, no?

FWIW, this problem doesn't show on 2.1.3 with same configuration and
same file. But maybe 2.2.0svn has different strategy now?

2008-04-13 Thread Deng Xiyue
Package: amule-daemon
Version: 2.2.0~20080309-2
Severity: normal

It seems not all files in shared folder are listed in the shared page
of amuleweb, which makes further upload of those files impossible.
Amule program doesn't suffer from this, neither do older amule-daemon
program. It's still unknown which factor controls whether a file is
listed or not, currently most downloaded files and some other files
manually move into shared folder disappear.

Please note all my downloaded files and shared files are in Incoming
directory, means they are in the same directory, but not all of them
are shown.

The translation update of Simplified Chinese is attached below.
Please incorporate it in the next aptitude update.

(sorry, Jens, taking this one as I saw it arrived and wanted o notify
 the translator ASAP)

Your translation has bee synced with the development
repository. However, last changes happened in the meantime. They
should be the latest before lenny, so you might want to complete the
file and we give you a good promise that it won't change anymore
(except for very very good reasons).

 New file attached.

Thanks for notifying me about this. But it seems the newly generated
template has many unnecessary broken sentences that makes translation
almost unachievable. For examples the following excerpt:

Bug#475802: Possible i18n usability deficiency in Yes/No translation

2008-04-12 Thread Deng Xiyue
Package: aptitude
Version: 0.4.11.2-1
Severity: wishlist

One of my friend Hou Zhengpeng(CCing him) has found that aptitude uses
translated string as result for comparison, which might be a problem
for asia users who use their localization but doesn't install an input
method.

Take the following code excerpts as example:

---8--
  const string okstr=_(Yes), abortstr=_(No);
...
  const bool is_ok=(strncasecmp(okstr.c_str(), buf, okstr.size())==0);
  const bool is_abort=(strncasecmp(abortstr.c_str(), buf,
abortstr.size())==0);
---8--

For Chinese user, Yes will be translated to 是, which will be used
for the is_ok comparison. Meanwhile, 是 will not be able to input
when input method is unavailable, which in turn isn't installed by
default install settings.

This is quite a dilemma for users using non-en_US based locales,
especially CJK-based locales. I'd propose such usage to be changed to
a letter-based comparison, as Y for Yes and N for No or something like
that.

confirmed. Please note that the amule program doesn't suffer from

Hello. I use the same version of amule-daemon, and the name of my

CCing upstream to see if they'd know why it could happen.

The weird thing is after a reinstall it seems this bug is
unreproducible on my machine for now. I'm tagging it unreproducible,
and if it doesn't happen again in another week I'll close this bug.
Sorry if this false alarm has wasted your time. Thanks.

Seconded--I've been building my own boost packages for a while to get
Boost.Asio, which has been included in the mainline Boost distribution
as of 1.35.0. It'll be great to stop building my own and just use
 Debian's :)

If you guys need some help, I can try updating the packaging for 1.35.

 Help would be most welcome!

Packaging is not the issue, however. I think I can do that over the
weekend. The real issue is whether it can be uploaded this close to a
freeze; for example, does it break any existing reverse dependencies?
 c.f. http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2008/03/msg00930.html

So, assuming I can produce the packages, what would help is to have
volunteers to test build all the things that build-depend on boost.

 If interested, please email.

IMHO it would merit an upload to experimental ASAP to make the
rdepends check possible, and whether to make a separate package for
1.35.0 depends on the result.
