Bug#655360: live-manual-html: All references to 'usb-hdd' are obsolete since rename to 'hdd'
Package: live-manual-html Version: 1:3.0~a9-1 Severity: important Dear Maintainer, From the live build changelog: * Renaming usb-hdd binary image type to simply hdd. However the online and package manual still reference a 'usb-hdd' config. From http://live.debian.net/manual/html/the-basics.en.html#210: Building a USB/HDD image is similar to ISO hybrid in all respects except you specify -b usb-hdd The build fails, no 'binary.img' is created. Bug#651912: hexedit workaround does not work
One can also achieve approximately the same effect by installing hexedit and running hexedit /usr/lib/chromium/chromium TAB (to move to the ASCII column) / /usr/lib/nss (to find that path mentioned there) X a few times (to corrupt it) control + X (to save and exit) I replaced the entire path (/usr/lib/nss/libsoftokn3.so) with 'X'es and am still getting these annoying messages on startup and every time I open a new tab and go to a website. I don't know if another portion of the code is trying to load this library or what, but it is worthless to me and spams the heck out of '.xsession-errors'. Why is the code referencing '/usr/lib/nss'? The directory does not exist on Debian: /usr/lib/chromium$ dlocate /usr/lib/nss /usr/lib/chromium$ dpkg -S /usr/lib/nss /usr/lib/chromium$ dpkg-query: no path found matching pattern /usr/lib/nss.

Bug#637343: spacefun-wallpaper.svg now reported missing on second machine
It used to appear as the background, now it doesn't. The file is there on the second machine as well. Both machines are up to date 'wheezy/sid'.
Bug#608000: Fixed in Version: 3.0.3-1+b1
This bug has been fixed. OK to close, thanks.
Bug#637343: Seems to be a problem with .svg files and/or location
The 'spacefun-wallpaper.svg' was the only background available, ,and then only because it is default. Every other background that is in the list resides in '/usr/share/backgrounds/gnome'. When I tried to add any of the .svg backgrounds (i.e. 'moreblue-orbit-wallpaper.svg') the file chooser showed a '?' symbol, whereas selecting one of the .png files gives a thumbnail view of the background. After selecting an .svg file to add, the resulting choice showed a solid green background in the list of choices (no background). I realize this is a probably a corner case, after all the other machine I administer is able to display the background just fine. After upgrading this system to the same level as the working one I expected this to be fixed (the upgrade included some gnome dependencies and inkscape), so I guess I'll keep drilling and GDM, s and ltracing. Also I'll reinstall 'gnome-control-center' and have a look at the 'gnome-appearance-properties' source.

Bug#639088: Changing 'AutostartCondition' back to depend on gconf key fixes this
In '/usr/share/gnome/autostart/vino-server.desktop' (or '~/.config/autostart/vino-server.desktop', which is what I used for the test), changing the line AutostartCondition=GSettings org.gnome.Vino enabled to AutostartCondition=GNOME /desktop/gnome/remote_access/enabled fixes this problem. I can see where this changed variously in NEWS and ChangeLog files, and I'm sure there were good intentions and some work involved in bringing this change out (I can see the code git to gsm-autostart.c), but the implementation totally fails. Don't people test the code they write anymore? A simple bounce gdm would show that vino didn't start. Also, from the '/docs/debugging.txt' in the source tree we see: Debugging Vino == Because gnome-session launches vino-server based on the value of the /desktop/gnome/remote_access/enabled key, it can be a bit of a pain to debug Vino. 'Bit of a pain' is an understatement, even more pain ensues when what little documentation there is about vino doesn't match the debugging instructions. I'm sure there were reasons to change this (there is a reference to 'bug 654901', but no URL linking the bug number to a bug database. The administrator is left guessing (launchpad, bugzilla, gnome, Debian). The worst part is that the remote admistrator will notice they cannot logon but the casual user/client is not skilled enough to assist in the debugging of the problem without considerable pain on the part of both parties.
Bug#637343: No
It doesn't look like a gdm issue to me. The file '/usr/share/images/spacefun-wallpaper.svg' is owned by package 'desktop-base', not gdm. I can login fine, just can't select and use the spacefun-wallpaper background. The gdm version is the same on both machines (2.20.11-4), and gdm is not run on the VNC session in any event.
Bug#637343: desktop-base: Default Debian background reported as 'missing' but it is not
Package: desktop-base Version: 6.0.6 Severity: important I rebooted this morning and noticed there was no background on the gdm signon screen (just grey), then when the gnome desktop came up everything was green instead of the nice space swirls. When I checked in Preferences/Appearance the background setting said 'Debian image missing' but the link '/usr/share/images/desktop-base/desktop-background' pointed to '/etc/alternatives/desktop-background' which points to '/usr/share/images/desktop-base/spacefun-wallpaper.svg' which is on my system: 240 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 240803 Feb 19 13:31 /usr/share/images/desktop-base/spacefun-wallpaper.svg A reinstall of the 'desktop-base' package did not fix the problem. Bug#635056: I also have this problem
Previously I think I had worked around it by using the Adwaita theme instead of Clearlooks, which rendered the tabs with a diagonal line on the left hand side and (I believe) highlighted the tab with the current focus but that no longer works and I have no idea which component changed to cause the failure. The transition to Gnome/GTK 3 seems to be breaking things along the way.

Bug#632181: Please be specific - what package+version to install?
These themes are all messed up. Two bugs: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=631024 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=631897 are marked as 'Resolved' but they are not. If I _don't_ select the 'Adwaita' theme, the tabs in gnome-terminal have square corners and the only way to tell which tab has the focus is to use the 'hi contrast' or 'hi contrast inverse' which are very harsh. Also, just trying to select other themes presents problems: (gcalctool:28148): Gtk-WARNING **: Could not load named theme LowContrast: File doesn't exist: /usr/share/themes/LowContrast/gtk-3.0/gtk-widgets.css (gnome-terminal:6519): Gtk-WARNING **: Could not load named theme LowContrast: File doesn't exist: /usr/share/themes/LowContrast/gtk-3.0/gtk-widgets.css Window manager warning: Log level 16: GError set over the top of a previous GError or uninitialized memory. Bug#631449: More oddity
http://video.nbcsports.com/player/?id=39033...Whoops, WRONG clipboard data! I just started epiphany on a different machine on my LAN and it works fine, and that machine has both packages installed on it. I will try and start up epiphany after installing the two packages again on this system.
Bug#631449: GOD BLESS YOU, ALFREDO!
Thanks, that worked. A purge of the introspection data package (gir1.2-epiphany-2.29) caused the extensions-more package to be removed (on my permission): The following packages have unmet dependencies: epiphany-extensions-more: Depends: gir1.2-epiphany-2.29 but it is not going to be installed. The following actions will resolve these dependencies: Remove the following packages: 1) epiphany-extensions-more Accept this solution? [Y/n/q/?] Y Sure enough, after removing those two epiphany started back up. I was going nuts with strace and ltrace, comparing where epiphany started waiting on a FUTEX in the 'bad' trace and where the same wait got posted and things kept moving in the 'good' trace (of starting epiphany with a blank page in the VNC session). It was very curious (OK, it was maddening) that one user could successfully start epiphany and the other one couldn't, they are on the same machine. That led me to look into epiphany data in the home directories of each user and there wasn't much to glean from that. Should this bug be transferred to gir1.2-epiphany-2.29 or epiphany-extensions-more? I think it should go to one of the two, it's very nasty.

Bug#550352: Just got it with chromium
And had it with chromium-browser before upgrading to the version 11 chromium in sid. This problem isn't just cosmetic (the messages in .xsession-errors, which is now allowed to grow without limit); true to the content of the message response to mouse and keyboard events becomes sluggish and eventually overall GUI response starts to resemble Windows 98.
Bug#596085: Much better with 2.2.15.0-3
The problem has all but disappeared for me as of version 2.2.15.0-3 of this package.
Bug#625226: Patch redux
After RTFM (debian/README.source from the source tree, which references the excellent /usr/share/doc/quilt/README.source) I got a handle on the patch system and put together a less messy and more precise patch: 099_pam_limits_include_rttime_nrlimits16.patch Index: pam-1.1.2/modules/pam_limits/pam_limits.c === --- pam-1.1.2.orig/modules/pam_limits/pam_limits.c 2011-05-24 12:01:59.0 -0400 +++ pam-1.1.2/modules/pam_limits/pam_limits.c 2011-05-24 12:24:29.0 -0400 @@ -30,6 +30,14 @@ #include sys/types.h #include sys/stat.h #include sys/resource.h + +// Temporary workaround for #627619, #625226 +#ifndef RLIMIT_RTTIME +#define RLIMIT_RTTIME 15 +#undef RLIM_NLIMITS +#define RLIM_NLIMITS 16 +#endif + #include limits.h #include glob.h #include utmp.h After inserting the patch in the quilt series and doing: dpkg-buildpackage -b ./dpkg-buildpackage.log 21 (having a log of the output of 'dpkg-buildpackage' process proved very instructive), then pointing the /etc/pam.d/ files to the new pam_limits.so, 'Max realtime timeout' is recognized.
Bug#625226: Just a note about bug filed against 'libc6-dev'
A bug has been opened against 'libc6-dev' requesting that 'RLIMIT_RTTIME' and RLIMIT_NLIMITS = 16 be included in '/usr/include/bits/resource.h': http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=627619 Until that gets done, I added the following include right after the one for '/usr/include/sys/resource.h' in 'pam_limits.c': '#include /usr/src/linux/include/asm-generic/resource.h Make spits out some redefinition warnings but the library gets built and after putting the full path to the new library in the '/etc/pam.d' entries that reference 'pam_limits' there are no more warnings. I tried fiddling around with the quilt patches but failed, so this hack workaround will have to suffice for now.
Bug#625226: I think I found root cause
The loop for 'str2rlimit' iterates 'RLIM_NLIMITS' times where I assume 'RLIM_NLIMITS' is taken from '/usr/include/bits/resource.h' which is brought included in '/usr/include/sys/resource.h'. The value is '15': __RLIMIT_NLIMITS = 15, __RLIM_NLIMITS = __RLIMIT_NLIMITS #define RLIMIT_NLIMITS __RLIMIT_NLIMITS #define RLIM_NLIMITS __RLIM_NLIMITS However that value doesn't match the value 16, which is defined in ' kernel source /include/asm-generic/resource.h', which has the 'boot-time rlimit defaults for the init task'. The result is the comparison is never done for the last entry in the array (RLIMIT_RTTIME). I'm not sure which component/package needs fixing, 'libc6-dev' (which owns /usr/include/bits/resource.h) to match this patch, or this patch to match the kernel's definition of RLIM_NLIMITS. It seems from the raison d'etre of the patch that the latter should be done sooner.
Bug#625226: correction - rttimeo is the variable
In my last post I referenced 'rtprio' but the variable is 'rttime'. Please fix, I run rsyslogd with client machines logging on the server. Each machine that receives the patch for http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=620302 sends these useless messages.

Bug#625788: Credit where credit is DUE (Dumb User Error)
You are correct, sir! Booted Debian kernel 2.6.38-2-686 and it did indeed work like a charm. That was a long couple of days but fresh eyes the next mornings moved things along. I've been running custom built kernels so long I forgot all the Netfilter dependencies for firestarter, which seemed to be working alright with just a few modules which had been selected with 'make localmodconfig'. After building all the modules in 'net/netfilter', 'net/ipv4/netfilter' and '/net/ipv6/netfilter', it now works in the custom kernel also. Two question I have: 1. Precisely which netfilter config options are required for conntrack to work? I tried to enable just the modules I needed to try to get things working quickly, starting with 'NETFILTER_NETLINK(_QUEUE and _LOG) (after seeing that 'IP_NF_QUEUE' was obsolete), but no dice, although it failed a little further on. After that I added in 'IP_NF_QUEUE' thinking that maybe 'libnetfilter-conntrack3' hadn't started using the 'new' netfilter API, but still didn't work. 2. ... I forgot what the second question was. In the end I spent more time trying to get one or two or a handful of modules to work than it would have taken to build a kernel with the net/netfilter stuff in there, but it wasn't a complete waste of time, I learned some things. It's in the custom .config and ccache now, though, never touching that again! lol Sorry for the noise and it's OK to close.
Bug#625226: I can confirm this behavoir
Every time a CRON job runs, or sudo command, maybe every new process, I don't know, I get this message. 102 times in the last 5 hours. I see the original patch was submitted in March (http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=620302) and discussion with PAM developers continued in April and still goes on in May (https://fedorahosted.org/pipermail/pam-developers/2011-March/17.html) From looking at the patch It seems like no effort is made to derive or set a sensible default for rtprio. This wasn't a problem for me before the patch was put in because I don't care about real time priority and didn't mind not hearing about it. I suggest the patch be taken out until a decision is made 1) whether it's even worth having in the first place and 2) if so, rework the patch so it doesn't spam so much.
Bug#446343: I have this same problem
My set up is simpler, just a desktop with firestarter as the firewall with a DSL modem/1 port router. It seems there is a connection left in '/proc/net/ip_conntrack' (also in '/proc/net/nf_conntrack' by the way) from a Vuze/Azureus session which was closed and I'd like to kill it. Attached is an strace of 'cutter IP address of other host', which reports 'No matching connections'. I will try and build a debug version and figure out why no match is found yet the entry is clearly visible in '/proc/net/ip_conntrack' as having port number 14187: sudo cat /proc/net/ip_conntrack | grep 14187 tcp 6 402541 ESTABLISHED src=180.131.225.230 dst=192.168.1.64 sport=51883 dport=14187 src=192.168.1.64 dst=180.131.225.230 sport=14187 dport=51883 [ASSURED] mark=0 use=2 cutter.trace Description: Binary data

Bug#608533: Tentative fix
As soon as I wrote save and thought about it in the context of 'state(s)' I thought about Gnome session management and turned my attention to the desktop file for nm-applet (nm-applet.desktop), specifically the command line, which specifies 'nm-applet --sm-disable'. After removing the '--sm-disable' option, which effect 'man gnome-options' tells us is to 'Disable connection to session manager.', nm-applet starts up at login time without 'Enable Wireless', which was the setting I had just before a logging out (and then logging back in). Now I will try a full reboot and see how this interacts with the Network Manager daemon. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? The bug is, as noted above, in '/usr/lib/update-notifier/apt_check.py', which is owned by package 'update-notifier-common'. I will try and figure out what needs to be done to apt_check.py, I hope someone else sees this and is willing to try to fix it also. Bug#596085: I just ran into this bug after upgrading to linux-image-2.6.38
For the most part, the problem occurs in gnome-terminal with random artifacts (greyish shadows) on a small patch of the screen, at other times it looks like one line of text is overwriting the other one. Sometimes this occurs when typing in text in the browser (iceweasel). My xserver is Version: 2:2.14.0-4, and I let it configure itself for the most part (only 'FontPath unix/:7100 to pick up X font server). Bug#596253: This is a patch to distccd
I really think hardcoding ccache to run /usr/bin/cc is a bad idea and Debian should not take this patch. This patch doesn't hardcode ccache, it tells distccd to run '/usr/bin/cc'. Instead, either run with a useful $HOME, Well, distccd is the component that doesn't have a sensible $HOME, (it runs with HOME='/' as stated above). -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#622701: Message is due to changelog not always making it into the pool
I turned on update-manager debug logging and saw the HTTP 404 error for every changelog that failed to download so the cause is, indeed, because the changelogs are not yet in the respective pool subdirectories (main, contrib or non-free). I am running mixed testing/unstable so this makes sense (I guess). It just seems as if the failure instances are occurring more and more, I barely get one out of fifteen any more. Bug#440600: named restarted on resume from suspend
I see this message consistently upon resume from suspend (sleep). It is usually followed by a reload of the config file, and, perhaps depending on the number of poke messages, perhaps not, other tasks which depend on DNS being up may have trouble until it is finished with the reload. In my case I have 'ddclient' configured with the canonical address of a site to report the IP address of the system, but it fails because the name resolution request fails. Bug#615598: I get this error accompanied by a black screen
I have DPMS set to on, the machine is always up and will come out of DPMS with a mouse movement 90% of the time. The other 10% of the time the screen remains black and in power save mode. The only way out of it is to switch to a console (ALT-SHIFT-Fn) and back to gdm (ALT-SHIFT-F7), but I didn't know that the first couple of times the error happened. What is worse than the syslog spam is the absolute terror of having what appears to be an unresponsive system as I've had two machines die recently because of graphics adapter failure and or BIOS / motherboard failures. I have what could be termed PTSD from black screens, so coming out of DPMS sleep should work 100% of the time, EDID checksum be damned. I've seen other reports about this error which contained patch suggestions varying from not polling or probing every connector to remembering the EDID data and not probing at all but I can't recall where these were or which distribution, I know they were on launchpad. I am running wheezy/sid with Intel 945GME video controller and an ACER P191W monitor. I believe the connection protocol is TMDS-8 but not sure now because the output from DRM no longer reports that information on a mode switch from console to X and vice versa. Bug#618827: It just happened
Came back after an overnight suspend, didn't check the stime values but after running some performance measuring sessions with 'latencytop' decided to check them out on a hunch and sure enough, every process that was running yesterday at the time of suspend is showing 246 days+ for CPU time (stime) and 99% processor utilization. Attached is the output of 'ps -eo comm,c,time'. Please keep this open and my next try to reproduce will be to reboot, check the cpu times and utilizations (should be normal), then run 'latencytop'. If the times are still normal I will suspend/resume and run 'latencytop' again. Bug#618827: Haven't been able to recreate yet
I've tried two suspend/resume cycles, one lasting about 10 hours, the last one about 24 hours and the problem didn't occur. I think this is more of a corner case but am not sure what the extraordinary set of circumstances is that causes it. Because the time values were pretty much all increased by the same amount during/after 'the event' and then continued to increment normally, I thought perhaps the daylight savings time change might have been a factor, but the machine wasn't in suspend state when the switch occurred (March 13 0200 ET here). I will continue to monitor the stime and the next time I see a spike will gather all pertinent evidence including conditions for the previous day. Unless someone can offer any suggestions for tracing and/or trapping this spike I guess it's OK to close this. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#618827: procps: top and ps show very large (incorrect) values for CPU time after resume from suspend or hibernate
Package: procps Version: 1:3.2.8-10 Severity: normal I've been noticing this error for a few months now, and I think the error manifests itself after a resume from hibernate or sleep. The 'top' and 'ps' commands are showing very large values (i.e. hundreds of days) for kernel tasks (i.e. init, events, etc.) and daemons, or even applications (i.e. iceweasel) if they have not been restarted since boot time. Currently the values are 'pinned' to a value of 246-22:14:05, but 'uptime' shows the correct value: up 12 days, 5:23. If any task is restarted the cumulative CPU time (/proc/pid/stat 'stime') is reset and things look OK. In order to attempt to reliably recreate I will reboot then sleep for awhile, then resume and see if I see a noticable increase in stime/TIME/CPU values. The running kernel now is a custom job and my timer frequency is 1000 (CONFIG_HZ_1000=y) but this problem occurs will stock Debian kernel also. This may well come down to a kernel issue (i.e. fs/proc/array.c) but I thought I'd start here, maybe someone else has noticed this or there is a similarity to other open issues (#408879 ?). Package: latencytop Version: 0.5 Severity: normal From 'man latencytop': If you press s followed by a letter, then only active processes starting with that lettter are displayed That does not happen when run in xterm. If you just start typing letter(s), processes beginning with the first letter are displayed in the right side window, but other processes are available from the list of active processes on the left side. For instance, entering the 's' key per the man page displays the 'sshd' process. Bug#617693: flashplugin-nonfree: Horrible pink filter on youtube videos
Package: flashplugin-nonfree Version: 1:2.8.3 Severity: important Really bad pink/red filter overlaying every youtube video. The cause, according to http://www.webupd8.org/2011/03/fix-pinkred-youtube-videos-bug-using.html is: a combination of Flash 10.2, a recent YouTube change and the users graphics cards and seems to be browser-independent (can occur in Firefox 3.x, Firefox 4 beta as well as Chrome / Chromium). One workaround, as mentioned in the above article is to disable video acceleration for the plugin. Bug#608533: nm-applet settings 'forgotten' by design?
I think the reason '!Enable Wireless' and '!Enable Network' settings are forgotten at start-up is because because nm-applet is autostarted with the '--sm-disable' option. This is clarified a bit in the changelog: 2006-01-31 Dan Williams d...@redhat.com * nm-applet.desktop - Add --sm-disable to Exec arguments, presuming that when using autostart, we don't want session management Further testing with the underlying daemon shows that '/var/lib/NetworkManagemer/NetworkManager.state' is rewritten at (re)boot and restart time with all 'NetworkingEnabled' and 'WirelessEnabled' set to 'true' (as well as 'WWANEnabled=true'). It seems that the NetworkManager.state file is used to track the state of the network in the running session only, and is overwritten at startup time. I think this goes to the stated goal of network-manager: NetworkManager attempts to keep an active network connection available at all times. I think it _might_ be possible to have nm-applet start with wireless and/or networking disabled if the session is saved using 'gnome-session-save', the '--sm-disable' option is removed and nm-applet is taken out of the autostart list, but this seems like both more work than simply disabling whichever connections or options one doesn't want by manually unchecking the box(es), or simply not running nm-applet except on an ad hoc basis. Any changes to desktop files, etc. in an effort to save session state seem to act counter to the design of the framework and would be counterproductive in the end. On a more hopeful note, the release notes page of the Network Manager project (http://live.gnome.org/NetworkManager/ReleaseProcess) indicate nice changes coming down the pike, and I see that Release 0.8.2 has among the fixes and features: Saves and restores WiFi enabled state -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#608533: I get this same behavior
I am trying to disable the wireless connection for 2 reasons 1) I have a wired connection and never use the wireless connection except for testing purposes 2) The 'rt2860sta' driver currently has annoying debug messages turned on that spam the kernel log, in my case, every minute. The method I used to disable wireless was, per the friendly manual (man NetworkManager.conf), to include the 'keyfile' plugin and and include the wireless adapter MAC address in the list of 'unmanaged-devices': unmanaged-devices=mac:01:02:03:04:05:06 This works fine, the driver doesn't spam the log, and nm-applet shows 'device not managed' under the 'Wireless' section. But after reboot, it shows as 'Disconnected' and I get spam again. The quickest way to get back to some normalcy is to uncheck 'Enable Wireless' in nm-applet, but that will be overridden the next time the system thaws from sleep or is rebooted. The root cause seems to be that nm-applet is not honoring the 'NetworkManager.conf' file, perhaps by assuming some default settings based on state changes? I have attached some log files you requested from the OP, hopefully the names are descriptive enough. I wasn't able to boot from LiveCD because I don't have a CD-ROM. I do not have a special script in /etc/init.d/ to tell NM to sleep/wake on shutdown. NetworkManager[26174]:SCPlugin-Ifupdown: init! Bug#608000: evolution mailto:address or from mailto links fails to send email
Package: evolution Version: 2.30.3-5 Severity: important Clicking on mailto: links (i.e. Debian bug report number(s)) or supplying mailto: from the command-line results in (after the message has been composed and the user clicked 'Send') the message being moved to the Outbox instead of being sent. The only way to see that the message has not been sent is to open evolution and look in the Outbox, which doesn't show any messages are there until one looks in it. User must click Send/Receive button to send the message. Bug#596507: I just ran into this problem recently
Apparently, the 'new' location for the 'dhclient.conf' file is '/etc/dhcp', as opposed to the old location '/etc/dhcp3', which is where the old dhcp3-client put things. But since 'dhcp3-client' is just a dummy package that depends on is 'isc-dhcp-client', it is a mystery to me how 'dhclient.conf' got put in '/etc/dhcp3' in the first place, or for that matter, why there is an '/etc/dhcp3' directory at all. Perhaps it was created by 'debian-installer'? At any rate, it causes confusion. I haven't had time to test the change I made to '/etc/dhcp/dhclient.conf', (just found out about it a few minutes ago), but I'm betting that is what is causing the problem. The config files are exactly the same, so I just uncommented the 'prepend' line just like in 'dhcp3-client'. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#603387: I have this problem also
Using gdm autologin and adding the same two lines as added to '/etc/pam.d/gdm', still get prompted for password twice. Hours of searching for a solution and the only thing that looked promising was a solution involving using some old source for pam-keyring that included 'pam-keyring-tool', but that fails to build. I had gdm autologin working with gnome-keyring before, after much toil and trouble. This is not my first time around with this keyring business. Bug#581176: I just got bit by this
Very bad business. For a workaround I had to set the login password to NULL. Next I deleted the 'vino.local' key from the login keyring but it went right back in after resetting the password. This was a bad idea, as discussed here https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=344839, but even after it was agreed to add the gnome-keyring option, it was stated that it would be off by default. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. I think I may have found the cause. Bug#595330: I couldn't remove avahi-daemon without removing the gnome-desktop-environment
The root cause of the problem is effed up '/etc/nsswitch.conf' after installation of package 'libnss-mdns'. See http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=412714 I agree that the entire avahi thing is retarded, but it keeps coming back on upgrades like the undead. I used this workaround to restore performance of iptables -L to an acceptable level: In '/etc/nsswitch.conf': #hosts: files mdns4_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] dns mdns4 hosts: files mdns4_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] dns Could probably delete references to mdns(4) altogether and just go with 'files dns' for best performance but YMMV depending on whether avahi actually works at all with a particular network setup. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#601784: libglib2.0-0: Wrong behaviour of GVolume GVolumeMonitor related functions with mount --bind
Package: libglib2.0-0 Version: 2.24.2-1 Severity: important This bug was first reported as a nautilus bug, (https://bugs.launchpad.net/nautilus/+bug/452049) because it causes bind mounts (mount --bind x y) from '/etc/fstab' to show up in the nautilus side pane as 'XX G(M)B Filesystem' entries, and clicking on those entries results in a mount attempt which silently fails. The .xsession-errors file contains these messages: (gnome-panel:25862): GLib-GIO-CRITICAL **: g_mount_get_root: assertion `G_IS_MOUNT (mount)' failed (gnome-panel:25862): GLib-GIO-CRITICAL **: g_file_get_uri: assertion `G_IS_FILE (file)' failed ** (gnome-panel:25862): CRITICAL **: panel_show_uri: assertion `uri != NULL' failed (gnome-panel:25862): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_unref: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed (gnome-panel:25862): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_unref: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed The entries also show up in the 'Computer' browser, but attempts to open it result in a popup that says 'Unable to mount location Internal error: No mount object for mounted volume'. The root cause, as stated in the launchpad bug above and detailed in gnome bugzilla (https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=625552) has to do with Gvolume and GVolumeMonitor not properly dealing with bind mounts (i.e. g_volume_get_mount does not return a GMount object for bind mounts). More analysis and a some suggestions for additional checks to handle bind mounts are given in the gnome bugzilla issue. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing'), (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-3-686 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) (ignored: LC_ALL set to en_US.UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages libglib2.0-0 depends on: ii libc6 2.11.2-6+squeeze1 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libpcre3 8.02-1.1 Perl 5 Compatible Regular Expressi ii libselinux12.0.96-1 SELinux runtime shared libraries ii zlib1g 1:1.2.3.4.dfsg-3 compression library - runtime Versions of packages libglib2.0-0 recommends: ii libglib2.0-data 2.24.2-1 Common files for GLib library ii shared-mime-info 0.71-3 FreeDesktop.org shared MIME databa libglib2.0-0 suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe.
