A reproducer is at http://store.lisk.in/tmp/perm/fork_profiling_hang.tar.gz. `make all' generates a graph of the said dependence and `make hang' launches a test case that consumes 500 megs of memory and forks then. I write in the bug report however that I was able to reproduce the bug with KDE 4.3.2 (Ubuntu Karmic 9.10). there are actually two bug reports inside. The first part is the kdeinit: Aborting. $DISPLAY is not set. bug report, which is most likely fixed with KDE SC 4.0 (which I was referring to). It most probably is, yes, since I did not see it with 4.3.2 any more. The second part (which I missed at first) is the missing output. I just checked the code, and found out that konsolekalendar called without arguments lists all events on the current day from 7am to 5pm. So the default behavior isn't that useless. I agree. However if you take my case: first time user, no entries for today, then it still is a usability bug: the user get's no clue on why nothing's happening. (even though I like the idea of checking the sourcecode for information about usage, I don't think it's a good idea in general). I'd say that, either or multiple of the following things would improve the situation: * konsolekalendar could say No entries for today * there could actually be a README or even much better a man page! * 'konsolekalendar --help' could say what you said above (see attached patch) How about the QFile::remove: Empty or null file name problem [1]? Dann, sorry for replying late - I just installed the new drbd8 modules: Setting up drbd8-modules-2.6.26-2-686 (2.6.26+8.0.14-6+lenny3) ... Setting up drbd8-modules-2.6-686 (2:2.6.26-6+lenny3) ... Setting up drbd8-utils (2:8.0.14-2+lenny1) ... together with the latest lenny4 kernel: Setting up linux-image-2.6.26-2-686 (2.6.26-21lenny4) and can confirm that they work again, and that the new drbd also works together with the previous lenny versions of the kernel and of drbd - namely with: drbd8-modules-2.6.26-2-686 (2.6.26+8.0.14-6+lenny1) linux-image-2.6.26-2-686 (2.6.26-21lenny3) From my log: ... drbd0: conn( SyncSource - Connected ) pdsk( Inconsistent - UpToDate ) Thanks a lot!! I guess then that kernel linux-image-2.6.26-2-686 (2.6.26-21lenny4) should be conflicting with the previous, incompatible drbd package = drbd8-modules-2.6.26-2-686 (2.6.26+8.0.14-6+lenny3) in order to force an upgrade to a compatible drbd package? Bug#402084: About bug # 402084 in Debian BTS
Hello Olivier, On Thu, 11 Mar 2010, Olivier Vitrat wrote: Why have you reopened this bug ? The reopening mail: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?msg=12;bug=402084 contains at the bottom a demo of how konsolekalendar doesn't work here. Do you still have the problem, because I can't reproduce it ? Before I had Debian. Now I have Ubuntu. So I tried again on my Ubuntu here. Similar results: $ konsolekalendar QFile::remove: Empty or null file name $ Nothing happens. When I explicitly pass it a file containing a valid calendar (used from korganizer): $ konsolekalendar --file /tmp/ljilja.ics $ Nothing happens either. $ dpkg -s konsolekalendar | grep Version Version: 4:4.3.2-0ubuntu6 $ As usual with KDE apps, there's no manpage or informative README (it would be preferable to have one with konsolekalendar since it is supposed to be started from the command line universe...): $ man konsolekalendar No manual entry for konsolekalendar $ After trying around some more with --help: $ konsolekalendar # nothing happens QFile::remove: Empty or null file name $ konsolekalendar --view# nothing happens $ konsolekalendar --view --all # Hooray! Displays the whole calendar since the beginngins of time OK, it is doing *something*. Weird. How is one supposed to be using konsolekalendar (as mentioned above theres no helpful information coming with it)? I'd expect it to display the future events by default, however it doesn't do that. The following incantation seems to get near that: $ konsolekalendar --view --show-next 30 | less So konsolekalendar actually works, it's just that its default behaveour seems to be useless. I'll rename the bug accordingly then. *t -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org

Bug#570382: more datapoints on vserver start failure
So once again I had to upgrade kernels and I noticed: * that only my -686 kernel based machines failed to start the vservers (guests) correctly. The amd64 machine started them without problems. I see that florian.duf...@inria.fr also has an 686 machine. I'm Cc:ing Dan to see whether that's also the case for him. * on one of the machines the *first* of the vserver actually did start all others not and on the other machine all vservers did not start correctly. So it's not either all vservers fail to start or none. Might a ressource pressure problem? * stopping and starting the vservers one after the other fixed the problem, the vservers started correctly *t -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Package: linux-2.6 Version: 2.6.26-21lenny3 Severity: normal After upgrading the kernel from linux-image-2.6.26-2-vserver-686 2.6.26-21 to 2.6.26-21lenny3 and rebooting we could not log into the vservers any more and got the mentioned error instead: # vserver foo enter vlogin: openpty(): No such file or directory # since we had some instance where the procedure had worked we compared /dev and added the devices that were not on the instances where it did not work and restarted the vserver instances. Bug#570382: after upgrade: vlogin: openpty(): No such file or directory]
(I'm including Micah Anderson, maintainer of util-vserver in the Cc: in the hope that maybe the symptoms mentioned here may ring a bell with him. I hope you don't mind Micah.) Dan Gardner wrote on Feb 18 : I experienced similar behaviour, however I saw different results when using vserver foo start and when using /etc/init.d/util-vserver start, with only the latter exhibiting the problem. The problem appears to be caused by secure-mount segfaulting (as you can see in your logs) when mounting /dev/pts. Changing the vserver's fstab file to include the options rw,noexec, nosuid for the devpts entry seems to fix the problem. Here's the entry from my fstab in case it helps anybody: none/dev/ptsdevpts rw,noexec,nosuid,gid=5,mode=620 0 0 I checked the kernel's changelog and there doesn't seem to be no mention of changing anything related to vserver (there is a xen change though - no idea if it touches common infrastructure). However the util-vserver changelog mentions as of release 0.30.216~r2842-1 (which is in sid only) the removal of several secure-mount /dev related patches [1]. Since I am on lenny I still have the older 0.30.216~r2772-6 release of util-vserver. Don't know if the problems we see have anything to do with the code touched by those patches. *t [1] http://packages.debian.org/changelogs/pool/main/u/util-vserver/util-vserver_0.30.216-pre2864-1/changelog#versionversion0.30.216_r2842-1 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#505609: more on the lilo boot failure
After a standard security/stability upgrade of lenny I witnessed the same problem as Xavier, namely that lilo would stop with: liloLoading LinuxEBDA is big; kernel setup stack overlaps LILO second stage (I am not sure whether there were any points after lilo. I think not, but if there were, then there were only very few - i.e. not a line or half a line or such) What I did exactly was upgrading from linux-image-2.6.26-2-686 2.6.26-19lenny1 to 2.6.26-21 inside aptitude and *at the same time* deinstalling the old linux-image-2.6.18-6-686 2.6.18.dfsg.1-26etch1. Aptitude did what I told it to do and did not complain, and ended without error. The only thing indicating a problem were the following lines (from /var/log/apt.log - since I did not catch them during the down/upgrade, and translated from czech, since that's how the locale is set): Preparing to replace linux-image-2.6.26-2-686 2.6.26-19lenny1 (with .../linux-image-2.6.26-2-686_2.6.26-21_i386.deb) ... The directory /lib/modules/2.6.26-2-686 still exists. Continuing as directed. Done. Unpacking replacement linux-image-2.6.26-2-686 ... ... Configuring package linux-image-2.6.26-2-686 (2.6.26-21) ... Running depmod. Running mkinitramfs-kpkg. Not updating initrd symbolic links since we are being updated/reinstalled (2.6.26-19lenny1 was configured last, according to dpkg) Not updating image symbolic links since we are being updated/reinstalled (2.6.26-19lenny1 was configured last, according to dpkg) ... Removing package linux-image-2.6.18-6-686 The link /vmlinuz.old is a damaged link Removing symbolic link vmlinuz.old Unless you used the optional flag in lilo, you may need to re-run your boot loader[lilo] The link /initrd.img.ol is a damaged link Removing symbolic link initrd.img.ol Unless you used the optional flag in lilo, you may need to re-run your boot loader[lilo] Removing configuration directory of package linux-image-2.6.18-6-686 ... ... And that's it, no errors anywhere. After upgrading I rebooted and ended up with the lilo error reported by Xavier and repeated above. Strangely enough (!!!) I could *still* boot into the removed (!) 2.6.18-6 kernel and allthough the bootprocess complained about a lot of missing kernel modules (or modules.dep ? I don't know, I can't find it anywhere in the logs), but somehow miraculously (!) it was able to install the networking stack... Then, from the shell I issued: # lilo Fatal: open /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.18-6-686 After that I reinstalled the old linux-image-2.6.18-6-686 2.6.18.dfsg.1-26etch1 package and rebooted. Now everything was fine and I could boot into the new 2.6.26 kernel without lilo complaining. Running lilo from the command line would show me the bootable kernels: # lilo Added 2618-6-hda5 Added 2626-hda5 Added windows # ls -l / [...] initrd.img - boot/initrd.img-2.6.18-6-686 initrd.img.old - boot/initrd.img-2.6.26-2-686 [...] vmlinuz - boot/vmlinuz-2.6.18-6-686 vmlinuz.old - boot/vmlinuz-2.6.26-2-686 It seems that even if lilo.conf is half broken - i.e. it's missing some of the kernels, the install process will nevertheless install the new kernel but somehow break halfway through the process and not properly install the new kernel. *t -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Package: freeciv-client-gtk Version: 2.1.5-2 Freeciv client randomly segfaults. This usually happens after longer gameplay randomly on human player actions. From example, using Space key to rotate to other unit or trying to open city window. After game segfaults I lose all turns made after last manual or automatic save. Sometimes last automatic save file is corrupted and human player is tagged as AI. Not sure if crash is related to game error, my settings or my gameplay style. Game setup - local server with 1 human player, 5-10 normal AI players, default ruleset, freeciv GTK client, trident tiles. I can provide save files, configuration info and strace log (700 MB) of the game which ended with segfault. Save file was not corrupted when game crashed. gnome terminal showed --- The program 'civclient-gtk' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'BadIDChoice (invalid resource ID chosen for this connection)'. Bug#544992: Same here
Package: heartbeat Version: 2.1.3-6lenny4 Followup-For: Bug #544992 Saw the same behaveour as reported by Harald Dunkel today. That was after a dist-upgrade from etch. I did a reboot on the primary machine, expecting it to do so and it got stuck with WARN: Shutdown delayed until current resource activity finishes.. However the two machines we're well, both heartbeats were aware of each other, the one in active the other in passive mode. After that I did a ha_standby on the primary, after which the secondary took over, no problem, but heartbeat was still running and the machine would not go down. After that I did a /etc/init.d/heartbeat stop. And then a killall heartbeat. The latter helped. After the reboot I tried a few failovers by rebooting the machines but everything went fine after that. So it was not reproducable any more after the initial reboot of the primary. *t -- System Information: Debian Release: 5.0 APT prefers jaunty-updates APT policy: (500, 'jaunty-updates'), (500, 'jaunty-security'), (500, 'jaunty-backports'), (500, 'jaunty') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.28-15-generic (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=de_CH.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=de_CH.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#523269: More info
Hello, I think that this is caused by the switch to using PDF as primary format for printing -- CUPS converts the PostScript input to PDF and then back to PostScript just to feed it to cups-pdf which then produces the final PDF. The problem is the PDF-PostScript step, which is done by ps2pdf which cripples fonts. From what I understood from changelogs, ps2pdf (Ghostscript) is used instead of pstopdf (poppler) just because of the paper size handling. The font crippling is much more important issue though, so I suggest that change be reverted. On the other hand, I don't really see a reason to go to PDF if input and output (printer) formats are both PostScript. Luckily, there's an easy workaround: echo application/postscript application/vnd.cups-postscript 50 pstops /etc/cups/pstops.convs invoke-rc.d cups reload This workaround makes the cost of using pstops filter lower than the cost of the pstopdf|pdftopdf|cpdftops chain and restores the old behvaiour. I tested this with printing from Evince as well -- it produces PostScript output, so pstops filter is used and the output goes directly to cups-pdf, keeping font embedding untouched. I hope this helps. Regards, -- Tomáš Janoušek, a.k.a. Liskni_si, http://work.lisk.in/ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#494673: solution: the next version of dlocate won't depend on locate at all
Hello Craig, good idea! let's consider what would happen if dlocate would work with compressed text files instead: On Sat, 30 May 2009, Craig Sanders wrote: i've just done some simple tests and found the following: 1. on one of my systems (a laptop with 128MB RAM), dlocatedb takes up 696KB of disk space. a plain text dump of it takes up 3.0MB text dump generated with 'dlocate / dlocate.txt' i then made sure that both dlocatedb and dlocate.txt were not in the disk cache by catting approx 150MB of files to /dev/null. # ls -lh dlocate.txt dlocatedb -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 3.0M 2009-05-30 11:14 dlocate.txt -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 696K 2009-05-30 06:29 dlocatedb # wc -l dlocate.txt 62090 dlocate.txt That means the dlocate DB in raw text form is roughly 5 times larger. Compare that with a gzipped text DB: $ ls -l /tmp/dump.txt /tmp/dump.txt.gz -rw-r--r-- 1 tpo tpo 13270880 2009-06-02 20:11 /tmp/dump.txt -rw-r--r-- 1 tpo tpo 1183828 2009-06-02 20:11 /tmp/dump.txt.gz Thus the gzipped text DB is about 10* smaller than the raw text DB. This means that the gzipped text DB would be about half the size of the original dlocatedb. 2. searching the dlocatedb with locate for a single file takes 1.091 seconds. grepping for the same file in the text dump takes 0.584 seconds. the filename usr/share/doc/apache2.2-bin/changelog.gz was chosen because it is the very last line in dlocate.txt # time dlocate usr/share/doc/apache2.2-bin/changelog.gz apache2.2-bin: /usr/share/doc/apache2.2-bin/changelog.gz real0m1.091s user0m0.484s sys 0m0.044s # time grep usr/share/doc/apache2.2-bin/changelog.gz dlocate.txt apache2.2-bin: /usr/share/doc/apache2.2-bin/changelog.gz real0m0.584s user0m0.008s sys 0m0.020s I did a find /usr -exec cat \{\} \; to empty the buffer cache and then grepped for the last entry in the file as you did (grepping for the first one was about 25% faster - probably within the margin of error): $ time grep /usr/share/doc/kde/HTML/en/konq-plugins/khtmlsettings/common /tmp/dump.txt konqueror-plugin-khtmlsettings: /usr/share/doc/kde/HTML/en/konq-plugins/khtmlsettings/common real0m0.025s user0m0.020s sys 0m0.004s $ time zgrep /usr/share/doc/kde/HTML/en/konq-plugins/khtmlsettings/common /tmp/dump.txt.gz konqueror-plugin-khtmlsettings: /usr/share/doc/kde/HTML/en/konq-plugins/khtmlsettings/common real0m0.178s user0m0.132s sys 0m0.020s Thus grepping through the gzipped file is about 10 times slower, however it's still very fast, at least on my system. 3. repeating the test immediately with both files cached in RAM gives 0.512 seconds (dlocate) and 0.034s (grep) # time dlocate usr/share/doc/apache2.2-bin/changelog.gz apache2.2-bin: /usr/share/doc/apache2.2-bin/changelog.gz real0m0.512s user0m0.476s sys 0m0.032s # time grep usr/share/doc/apache2.2-bin/changelog.gz dlocate.txt apache2.2-bin: /usr/share/doc/apache2.2-bin/changelog.gz real0m0.034s user0m0.012s sys 0m0.024s on the first run, grep is twice as fast as dlocate. on subsequent runs, it is about 15 times faster. This doesn't make a difference here for raw vs gzipped text. there appears to be no advantage whatsoever to using frcode any more (in fact, locate is much slower than plain grep), and disk space is so cheap that the difference between 700KB and 3MB is irrelevant. accordingly the solution to this on-going dlocate/locate/mlocate confusion will be the release of a new version of dlocate that doesn't use or depend on frcode or locate, but instead just uses a plain text file and grep. i have a few other things on my TODO list for dlocate. I'll get them done and release a new version. hopefully this weekend if real life doesn't intrude. i think i'll also add a few more options to dlocate to take advantage of GNU grep's ability to use different Matchers - from grep(1): Matcher Selection -E, --extended-regexp Interpret PATTERN as an extended regular expression (ERE, see below). (-E is specified by POSIX.) -F, --fixed-strings Interpret PATTERN as a list of fixed strings, separated by newlines, any of which is to be matched. (-F is specified by POSIX.) -G, --basic-regexp Interpret PATTERN as a basic regular expression (BRE, see below). This is the default. -P, --perl-regexp Interpret PATTERN as a Perl regular expression. This is highly experimental and grep -P may warn of unimplemented features. and i'll support -w too: -w, --word-regexp Select only those lines containing matches that form whole words. The test is that the matching substring must either be at the beginning of the line, or preceded by a non-word constituent character. Similarly, it must be either at the end of the line or followed

Bug#494673: clarification of proposed dlocate README?
Coming from Ubuntu and having installed dlocate, I've had locate - required by dlocate - and mlocate - superior disk access an installed by default by Ubuntu - trash my disks daily for a year or two. I've iterated a bit through #494673 and the related discussion in #454106 however I do not get it. The README in #494673 suggests disabling the daily locate disk trash run, which I now did. James Youngman suggest somewhere in the middle of the #454106 discussion (http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=454106#10) to instead generate the locate DB from the mlocate DB. If I check /usr/sbin/update-dlocatedb (dlocate!) I see the locate DB referenced but no mention of mlocate there. So I'd assume, that once I have switched off the locate run, this would stop updating the locate DB and since dlocate is using the locate DB this would also stop updating the dlocate DB. Is this correct or am I confused? Could this later point be made clear in the README? And could the README be included in the dlocate package please? Bug#494673: clarification of proposed dlocate README?

If I check /usr/sbin/update-dlocatedb (dlocate!) I see the locate DB referenced but no mention of mlocate there. So I'd assume, that once I dlocate does not and can not use mlocate. mlocate does not provide the frcode program which dlocate requires, nor does it provide even a rough equivalent of it. mlocate works completely differently to locate. BTW, the locate DB referenced in that script is dlocate's own db...it is not shared with locate, it is completely unrelated data that just happens to be in the same format as locate's db (because it is made with the same frcode tool). OK, that clears things up for me. Good. have switched off the locate run, this would stop updating the locate DB and since dlocate is using the locate DB this would also stop updating the dlocate DB. Is this correct or am I confused? dlocate doesn't use locate's own db. it only uses some of the programs(*) which used to be in the findutils package but are now in a separate 'locate' package. you can disable the locate package's cron job completely and it will not affect dlocate in any way. as mentioned, it does not use the locate db, it uses it's own db (/var/lib/dlocate/dlocatedb) (*) specifically /usr/bin/locate and /usr/lib/locate/frcode Could this later point be made clear in the README? i really don't know how it could be said any clearer. I suggest actually putting that information somewhere into the package as for example into the README.Debian. And could the README be included in the dlocate package please? I'm thinking it could spare the world a few dozen kilo joule of electricity over all? what README? There is a README.Debian in the dlocate package. $ dpkg -s dlocate | grep Version Version: 0.96.1 so that's the same one as in sid and should be the latest available as far as I'm aware. Now let's check the README.Debian (previously unprecisely called README by myself): $ cat /usr/share/doc/dlocate/README.Debian dlocate for Debian -- fast alternative to 'dpkg -L', 'dpkg -S' etc. NOTE: the 'dlocate -l' is NOT the same as 'dpkg -l' and i will ignore bug reports which point out this obvious fact. it is a simplistic emulation, not an exact clone. IMO, it is more useful than 'dpkg -l'. if you disagree, then you are free to use the slower original. -- Craig Sanders c...@taz.net.au, Tue, 2 Nov 1999 17:21:03 +1100 No mention of disabling locate's updatedb run here. dlocate will install locate by dependency and locate will by default start automatically trashing the disk each day. Thus in my opinion dlocate should warn the user of this. I'd suggest putting a line into dlocate's manpage referring to the README.Debian and explain things there. Additionally I'd suggest to test in the dlocate.postinst whether either two of locate and mlocate or slocate are installed and tell the user that he probably wants to disable the locate updatedb run through the /etc/updatedb.findutils.cron.local mechanism. If you agree in principle with this then I can send you a patch. Bug#523731: SIGCHILD doesn't do anything
Package: gozerbot Version: 0.7.1.1-1 Severity: minor The example cron job for restarting gozerbot from /usr/share/gozerbot/gozerbot.cron looks like this: PID=`cat gozerbot.pid` if test -r gozerbot.pid then if `kill -CHLD $PID 1/dev/null 21` then exit 0 else ./runbot 1log 21 fi fi However: 1. I have yet to see something happening with gozerbot, when I send it a SIGCHILD. Does it have any effect at all? 2. under what condition should the kill command fail (as above in the code) and why should gozerbot be started in that case? *t -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers intrepid-updates APT policy: (500, 'intrepid-updates'), (500, 'intrepid-security'), (500, 'intrepid-backports'), (500, 'intrepid') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.27-11-generic (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=de_CH.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=de_CH.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#441699: freezes system
On Tue, 7 Apr 2009, Jordà Polo wrote: On Mon, Sep 10, 2007 at 10:47:49PM +0200, Tomas Pospisek wrote: I start neverputt and start hearing one tone after the other (about 3 per second) meanwhile my system practically crawls to a freeze (866MHz with 1G RAM, nv X driver). Not much else is happening. It takes about 2 minutes to kill the app afterwards. *t A new stable version of Neverball (1.5.0) was released in February and has been available in Debian for a while. Since it includes many changes, it would be interesting to know if you can still reproduce this problem using the latest release. I have given away the PC the problem was reported on and now own a different one with completely different HW: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T7500 @ 2.20GHz Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller 1G RAM I guess the new Laptop is about 4 times as fast es the previous one. And it's running Ubuntu Hardy. However as soon as I start neverputt CPU goes to 100% and I mean it: the Laptop gets hot fast and starts faning like mad. Even when there's _nothing_ happening on the screen except the backgound music playing. The game itself is quite painful to play i.e. really slow. Separate frames get rendered at irregular intervals in time. So now we've got two very distinct HW platforms, and also two more or less distinct SW platforms (Ubuntu/Debian) but neverputt is still consuming 100% CPU while nothing visible is happening. The only common thing is, that both systems did not have 3D accelleration. There's some really groce bug somewhere. I maintain, that someone is polling[1] in a very dumb loop somewhere. *t [1] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polling_(computer_science)

Bug#514792: netcat-openbsd: ambiguous handling multiple clients
Package: netcat-openbsd Version: 1.89-3 Severity: minor Tags: patch In listener mode (-lk): when multiple clients attempt to connect simultaneously, first is connected and served, others are connected and disconnected afterwards. This happens because of closing socket in for(;;) loop. I suggest place creating and closing of socket out of this loop, loop just do accept(). This causes that clients connections are queued or serialized and served in serial manner rather than dropped (like now). Better solution would be refuse subsequent connections while one is active (client knows, that isn't served) and the best is my suggestion - wait to be accepted. --- netcat-openbsd-1.89/netcat.c2009-02-10 19:07:52.0 +0100 +++ aaa/netcat.c2009-02-10 19:04:25.0 +0100 @@ -293,13 +293,13 @@ if (family == AF_UNIX) s = unix_listen(host); + else + s = local_listen(host, uport, hints); + if (s 0) + err(1, NULL); /* Allow only one connection at a time, but stay alive. */ for (;;) { - if (family != AF_UNIX) - s = local_listen(host, uport, hints); - if (s 0) - err(1, NULL); /* * For UDP, we will use recvfrom() initially * to wait for a caller, then use the regular @@ -330,11 +330,12 @@ readwrite(connfd); close(connfd); + + if (kflag) + continue; + if (family != AF_UNIX) close(s); - - if (!kflag) - break; } } else if (family == AF_UNIX) { ret = 0; -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers testing-proposed-updates APT policy: (500, 'testing-proposed-updates'), (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.23 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ISO-8859-2) (ignored: LC_ALL set to sk_SK) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages netcat-openbsd depends on: ii libc6 2.7-18 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libglib2.0-0 2.16.6-1 The GLib library of C routines netcat-openbsd recommends no packages. netcat-openbsd suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe.
