Bug#430189: gnome-speech: [debconf_rewrite] Debconf templates and debian/control review

2007-06-23 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: gnome-speech
Version: N/A
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Dear Debian maintainer,

On Saturday, June 02, 2007, I notified you of the beginning of a review process
concerning debconf templates for gnome-speech.

The debian-l10n-english contributors have now reviewed these templates,
and the proposed changes are attached to this bug report.

Please review the suggested changes are suggested, and if you have any
objections, let me know in the next 3 days.

Please try to avoid uploading gnome-speech with these changes right now.

The second phase of this process will begin on Tuesday, June 26, 2007, when I
will
coordinate updates to translations of debconf templates.

The existing translators will be notified of the changes: they will
receive an updated PO file for their language.

Simultaneously, a general call for new translations will be sent to
the debian-i18n mailing list.

Both these calls for translations will request updates to be sent as
individual bug reports. That will probably trigger a lot of bug
reports against your package, but these should be easier to deal with.

The call for translation updates and new translations will run until
Sunday, July 08, 2007. Please avoid uploading a package with fixed or changed
debconf templates and/or translation updates in the meantime. Of
course, other changes are safe.

On Monday, July 09, 2007, I will contact you again and will send a final patch
summarizing all the updates (changes to debconf templates,
updates to debconf translations and new debconf translations).

Again, thanks for your attention and cooperation.

Bug#428353: timidity: ALSA lib pcm.c:2105:(snd_pcm_open_conf) Cannot open shared library...

On my system there is no /etc/alsa.conf or /etc/asound.conf. I think it is the
combination of pulseaudio and alsa that is causing the problems.

I reproduced your setup here, with alsa using pulseaudio.

The real problem is this: timitidy as system service runs as the "root" user
and the "root" user doesn't have a proper configuration for using the alsa
pulseaudio plugin as default alsa device.

I solved it like this:

add this to /etc/asound.conf:

pcm.pulse {
type pulse
}

ctl.pulse {
 type pulse
}

pcm.!default {
type pulse
}
ctl.!default {
type pulse
}

Then add the root user to the pulse-access group:

useradd root pulse-access

If you now start the systemwide timidity daemon it will work fine:
# /etc/init.d/timidity start
Starting: timidity.

As you can see it is using pulseaudio as underlying alsa plugin:

# ps -ef | grep timi
root 14303 1 0 09:02 pts/1
00:00:00 /usr/bin/timidity -B2,8 -Os -iAD
root 14328 11901 0 09:06 pts/100:00:00 grep timi
# lsof -p 14303 | grep pulse
timidity 14303 root memREG8,5 229444
1088680 /usr/lib/libpulse.so.0.2.0
timidity 14303 root memREG8,5 18992
3050413 /usr/lib/alsa-lib/libasound_module_pcm_pulse.so

I hope this helps.

As you can see this is not a bug in timidity. Maybe I should provide a hint in
the README.Debian about this?

Joost

Bug#420506: DRI fails

2007-06-23 Thread Brice Goglin
Hi,

Could you try the latest xserver-xorg-video-intel (2:2.0.0-5 currently
in experimental) and report back whether it works better? Your DRI
problems apparently got solved by removing the VideoRAM line. The blue
XV problem should be fixed by now. So what remains is the freeze when a
game changes the resolution, and the drmWaitVBlank warning. The latest
package has a good chance of fixing these too.

Thanks,
Brice

Hi,

Could you try the latest xserver-xorg-video-intel package (2:2.0.0-5
currently in experimental) and report back whether it fixes your
problem? Be sure you do not disable DDC as before since the driver needs
it to autodetect modes.

2007-06-23 Thread Brice Goglin
Hi,

Could you try the latest xserver-xorg-video-intel package (2:2.0.0-5

Note that xrandr is meant to switch displays on/off so it might be
"expected" that hotkeys do not work anymore :) I don't know about
i810switch, I would rather not use it since it might have been designed
for old i810 driver and I don't know how it interacts with xrandr.

Bug#423041: binNUMUs - all-depends-any

2007-06-23 Thread Gerrit Pape
Hi, I know that the git-core package doesn't support binNMUs, and AFAIK
there's no convenient way to change that, as it builds arch: all package
that depend on the specific arch: any package.

 http://bugs.debian.org/423041

Loosening the dependencies as suggested in http://wiki.debian.org/binNMU
isn't a good solution, as it can lead to

 http://bugs.debian.org/425494

Can I register the package as non-binNMUable anywhere?, it needs a
sourceful upload anyway.

 http://bugs.debian.org/430128

Thanks, Gerrit.

Bug#406417: i810: DualHead fails to resume after suspend

2007-06-23 Thread Brice Goglin
Hi,

Does any of you guys still reproduce this problem with a black screen
after suspend/resume with the latest xserver-xorg-video-intel driver in
dual-head? If so, it would be good if all of you could try with the
latest xserver-xorg-video-intel driver (2:2.0.0-5 currently in
experimental).

If you still experience a black screen at resume, you should try either
passing acpi_sleep=s3_bios to the kernel, or use vbetool post after
resume (some high-level suspending program can take care of this for
you, for instance with the uswsusp package).

No, I mean that it gives me an array that looks like

(Host Host subversions.gnu.org)

Also, I use wildcards in my ~/.ssh/config, so it should probably exclude
those too.

So maybe something like

hosts=(${${${(M)${(f)"$(<~/.ssh/config)"}:#Host*}#Host }:#*\**})

Bug#427449: avelsieve: General update after the debconf review process

2007-06-23 Thread Christian Perrier
Dear Debian maintainer,

On Wednesday, May 16, 2007, I sent you a notification about the beginning of a
review
action on debconf templates for avelsieve.

Then, I sent you a bug report with rewritten templates and annoucing
the beginning of the second phase of this action: call for translation
updates.

Translators have been working hard and here is now the result of their efforts.

Please consider using it EVEN if you committed files to your
development tree as long as they were reported.

The attached tarball contains:

- debian/changelog with the list of changes
- debian/control with rewrites of packages' descriptions
- debian/ with all the rewritten templates file(s)
- debian/po/*.po with all PO files (existing ones and new ones)

As said, please use *at least* the PO files as provided here,
preferrably over those sent by translators in their bug reports. All
of them have been checked and reformatted. In some cases, formatting
errors have been corrected.

The patch-nopo file contains a patch for the templates and control file(s).

Please note that this patch applies to the templates and control
file(s) of your package as of Wednesday, May 16, 2007. If your package was
updated
in the meantime, I may have updated my reference copybut I also
may have missed that. This is indeed why I suggested you do not
modified such files while the review process was running,
remember..:-)

It is now safe to upload a new package version with these changes.

Please notify me of your intents with regards to this.

There is of course no hurry to update your package but feel free to
contact me in case you would need sponsoring or any other action to
fix this.

Jun 23 03:05:04 news1 innfeed[31489]: ME dropped 97512 articles

I am somewhat confused by the fact that the crash happens like three
minutes after the command, but I suspect that inn does things for
these three minutes and then crashes at some later stage in processing.

I'll move the cron job and see whether the crash moves as well.

Greetings

Bug#390913: xserver-xorg-video-i810: blank screen after suspend

2007-06-23 Thread Brice Goglin
Hi,

I am contacting all of you again since everybody does not agree whether
this bug is fixed or not. It could be related to which chipset you have.

It would be good if all of you could try with the latest
xserver-xorg-video-intel driver (2:2.0.0-5 currently in experimental).
It is supposed to resume well.

If you still experience a black screen at resume, you should try either
passing acpi_sleep=s3_bios to the kernel, or use vbetool post after
resume (some high-level suspending program can take care of this for
you, for instance with the uswsusp package).

Bug#430187: kqemu licence change

2007-06-23 Thread Paul Bransford
Package: kqemu-common
Version: 1.3.0~pre9-12

kqemu is now GPL licenced, as per http://fabrice.bellard.free.fr/qemu/
(at least for upstream version 1.3.0pre11)

As such, kqemu should probably move from non-free over into main.

The package description also states that it is under a proprietary
licence, which is no longer true.

Hi Anibal, Simon,

I noticed that the libevent package in Debian is quite old. There
have been several new released of libevent including new features not
available in the current Debian package. That means that a bunch of
software using these new features is difficult to get running on
Debian.

Is there any chance that you could update the package?

Thank you,

Rmic has apparently drifted in and out of kaffe/GNU classpath over

Lucene package for Lucene2 if dependencies allow it, and Lucene2 gets

I was actually referring to a change in the BTS to show the contents of
control messages if there's a comment. This will be useful for people
looking through the bug logs where the maintainer doesn't use our next
devscripts version. :)

All Debian software must be compilable by tools in Debian.
Unfortunately JSPWiki 2.4 requires the use of the keytool program, and
the free alternative, gkeytool, doesn't work for some reason.

Not really. Enabling crossfade has other disturbing side effects.

Example:

1. play a track

2. pause the track

3. start to play a new track: I'll hear a last short snipset from the
old song and then the start of the new song

The recommendation for cases like this is to use a dependency like:

git-core (>= 1:1.5.2.2-1), git-core (<< 1:1.5.2.2-2~)

or a bit looser if the Debian revision won't matter:

git-core (>= 1:1.5.2.2), git-core (<< 1:1.5.2.3~)

I can't seem to reproduce it. After some discussion with Russ Allbery,
we decided it might be related to the OpenAFS kernel module. We'll
continue debugging and testing to see how to reproduce this bug. In
the mean time, feel free to close this bug.

Thanks and sorry for wasting your time.

Bug#428796: i810 and X-server hard-lock

2007-06-23 Thread Brice Goglin
Hi Evgeniy,

The invalid opcode error looks similar to the one in
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=404885. The guy is
using the vesa driver. You might want to test with the vesa driver
instead of i810 and see whether the same problem occurs (but you won't
have accelerated 3D with vesa). If it still occurs, we'll have to
reassign this bug to the server core instead of the i810 driver.

About the i810 driver, it has been largely reworked since version 1.7.
It is now superseded with the Intel driver 2.0
(xserver-xorg-video-intel). Its first release had multiple problems on
your i855, but most of them are now fixed in the latest git snapshot of
the driver. So, if you want to test it, you have to install
xserver-xorg-core 1.3 (currently in testing) and
xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.0.0-5 currently in experimental. All this
will require to upgrade several packages such as the libc6.

Also, since your attached file suggests that you might have been trying
multiple heads in the past, you have to know that mode detection has
been greatly improved in the new Xserver 1.3 and intel driver 2.0. Most
of the stuff in xorg.conf to manage resolutions, modes and multiple
heads is useless nowadays. You might want to look at section #6 and #7
of http://wiki.debian.org/XStrikeForce/ReleaseNotes to change your
xorg.conf accordingly. Let me know if you need more help.

Which xserver-xorg-video-intel do you have? The bug might well be caused

Is there a reason why a set of dependencies that only allow package
versions based on the same upstream version to be installed wouldn't
work? [1]

Bug#426918: ifup warnings on systems with multiple NIC

2007-06-23 Thread Eloi Granado
Package: avahi-autoipd
Version: 0.6.16-3etch1
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

The bug applies to all avahi-autoipd package versions.

The script /etc/network/if-up.d/avahi-autoipd checks whether the route
to the 169.254.0.0/16 network is already defined by means of this command :

[ "`ip route show dev $IFACE | grep ^169.254.0.0/16`" ] && exit 0

If you have multiple NIC in your system, avahi-autoipd defines the route
for eth0, and then gives warnings for each other interface of the other
NIC.

This can be corrected by taking out the "dev $IFACE" bit from the "ip
route show" command.

Best regards,
Eloi Granado

I don't really see the problem here, but maybe the computer is too fast
for this effect to be really noisy.

I don't really think this is really a problem either. Instead, I'd say
-1 is "the good thing", so there is no change to do in the code if
there's more thing to add.

in your case the easy way to solve the problem is *really* easy.
So maybe you'd like to use the following small patch for pokerth and

but I've decided that Domenico's change is reasonable enough to apply
similar patch to one of my packages.

Bug#425227: xserver-xorg-video-intel: no display with the intel or i810 driver, can only running the vesa driver

Do you still get a usable display if you start X with
startx /usr/bin/xterm
as reported earlier? If so, what does xrandr says? The problem with a
VGA display wrongly being detected should be fixed by now. So you should
see only LVDS there. Try xrandr multiple times since this problem was
intermittent. So "xrandr --output VGA --off --output LVDS --auto" should
be useless now.

Bug#430199: RM: gnudoku -- RoM; RC_buggy; outdated; better alternatives

2007-06-23 Thread David Gil
Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: normal

Please, remove gnudoku from the archive. These are the reasons:

 * Last upstream version: December 2005
 * RC-Buggy for 1 year and 140 days now.
 * There are better alternatives in the archive like gnome-sudoku
 * The package hasn't never been in testing

Thanks,
David.

Please add the patch found at:

to increase the maximum number of connections from 10 to 20 per server.
This is to support the new diamond service available from Giganews.

Too bad upstream looks stagnant at this point.

Bug#361418: [Proposal] new Debian menu structure

2007-06-23 Thread Russ Allbery
Bill Allombert <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> writes:

> Well It is two week now, and I did not get a single answer. Should I
> consider that as a nihil obstat ?

Sorry about this. Figuring out how to move forward with Policy was the
topic of much discussion at DebConf, but also since both Manoj and I are
here and pretty busy with talks, I hadn't had a chance to look at the
mailing list much.

I think this proposal has definitely had sufficient discussion, and the
impression that I had was that it had reached consensus. Given that, I
see no reason for it to not go into the next version of Policy.

We're going to start using a new Policy process (Manoj is going to send
out a writeup), and I'm not sure if we want to start that for the next
release or do one final cleanup release with some obvious pending stuff
and then start. I personally think I'd prefer the latter, including this,
probably the parallel build language, and a few other things that had
already been discussed and which are basically done.

Manoj, what's your feeling on this?

Bug#430200: scsitools: Syntax error in rescan-scsi-bus.sh makes system unusable ("Input/output error")

2007-06-23 Thread Marc-Jano Knopp
Package: scsitools
Version: 0.9-1.1
Severity: grave
Tags: patch
Justification: renders package unusable

Running /sbin/rescan-scsi-bus.sh makes my (and most likely every) system
unusable, I get input/output errors when trying to run programs after I
ran rescan-scsi-bus.sh.

The reason for this behavior is a syntax change for sg_inq; as of
sg3-utils-1.24-1, it doesn't accept "-36" anymore, but only "--len=36".

PATCH:

Change

  INQ=`sg_inq -36 /dev/$SGDEV`

to

  INQ=`sg_inq --len=36 /dev/$SGDEV`

in /sbin/rescan-scsi-bus.sh.

And while you're at it, you could append

  2>/dev/null

to the two lines

  echo "scsi remove-single-device $devnr" >/proc/scsi/scsi

and

  echo "scsi add-single-device $devnr" >/proc/scsi/scsi

which will make the ugly error message

"line 183: echo: write error: Invalid argument"

vanish that appears for each unsuccessfully tested ID if there are
narrow SCSI channels present when scanning with "-w".

If I chose the wrong severity and/or tags, please let me know.

Bug#420350: Still doesnt work

2007-06-23 Thread Mateusz Kaduk
Hi,

Ok what I did was.
Removed i810, changed in xorg.conf from i810 to intel.
Then
apt-get -t experimental install xserver-xorg-video-intel
which was 2.0.0-5
Did restart gdm.

I got some errors. I also tried
X -configure
and
X -config /root/Xorg.conf.new
however I got the same errors as before.

Here is the output.

Hi Brice,

unfortunatelly the experimental driver doesn´t work, too. I can´t get the
virtual screen size. I append xorg.conf and Xorg.0.log.

Bug#430172: reportbug-ng: [INTL:fr] French translation

2007-06-23 Thread Bastian Venthur
Hi Bob,

thank you very much for your French translation, unfortunately you've
used an outdated pot-file, so your translation is not quite complete. It
covers > 75% of the message strings, which is OK enough to include it,
but if you have the time, please have a look at the pot file I've
attached and translate the rest, if you have the time.

As promised, I've added your pony to the farm :)

Cheers,

Bug#430203: RFP: cx3dcc -- CyberX3D C++ library read, write, draw X3D/VRML scene graph

2007-06-23 Thread Philippe Coval
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: cx3dcc
  Version : 1.0.1
  Upstream Author : Satoshi Konno
* URL : http://www.cybergarage.org/vrml/cx3d/cx3dcc/index.html
* License : Custom opensource licence (BSD like)
  Programming Lang: C++
Description : CyberX3D for C++ read, write, draw X3D/VRML and manipulate
the scene graph

CyberX3D for C++ is a development package for X3D/VRML and Java programmers.
Using the package, you can easily read and write the X3D/VRML files,
set and get the scene graph information, draw the geometries,
run the behaviors easily.

Notes:

The project seems to in stalled state for years now,
but there are a couple of patches on upstream tracker

I opened a thread about debian packaging on upstream tracker :

http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1710356&group_id=68684&atid=522055

I built a "quick and dirty" package,
if you want to take it as a basis fell free to do it so.

It's in my private repository :
  http://rzr.online.fr/contrib.htm

Also, If it helps I may fill some notes at :
http://rzr.online.fr/q/dpkg

Good luck

No, that works fine by now. I'm not sure which upgrade fixed it, since
hibernate, uswsusp and the intel driver were all upgraded. I didn't need
enable the new workaround in hibernate though (switch to text mode after
resume that is). Thanks for the good work!

This is a piece of software that lets you tunnel IPv4 data through a
DNS server. This can be usable in different situations where
internet access is firewalled, but DNS queries are allowed.

Bug#420712: xserver-xorg-video-intel does not show virtual screens

2007-06-23 Thread Brice Goglin
Wolfgang Lauterbach wrote:
> unfortunatelly the experimental driver doesn´t work, too.

Do you mean it does not start? Or "just" that your old virtual screen
feature does not work? What resolution do you get at startup? Are you
able to move/resize the display correctly with xrandr?

As explained earlier, the current "Virtual" line does not seem to have
the exact meaning that you want. This Virtual line seems to be only
meant to resize/place multiple heads in a same big screen with xrandr
--pos/--above/--right-of/... From what I understood, you were moving
inside your 'virtual' screen by hitting the corners with the mouse,
right? I don't know how to do that today. But I also don't really see
why you need this :)

Bug#430205: vim: chmod foo -x; foo/bar unreadable directory causes [new file] annotation

2007-06-23 Thread Justin Pryzby
Package: vim
Version: 1:7.0-122+1etch2
Severity: minor

If vim gets a permission denied return value from a syscall trying to
open a file due to a parent directory lacking execute permission, it
should say so, not [new file] (although the file may or may not exist,
it's nicer to warn the user of this eg. in the same way it's nice to
warn when one starts to edit a readonly file).

Looks like you're running etch? Please install at least:

apt-get install -t stable libasound2 alsa-utils alsa-base alsa-source

Remove old alsaconf, which isn't really needed:

apt-get remove --purge alsaconf

If you're using Debian's kerneldrivers, your soundcard might be
usable now. Otherwise build your soundcard with fresh intalled
alsa-source package.

Hey, Iam running sid (unstable) on servers. Very stable, man ;) Your
installation is mixed up back from woody to some lenny packages.
Maybe there are some Potato packages flowing around ? I am
wondering whether this works anyway. You're done with an apt-get
update && apt-get dist-upgrade. If you then have ALSA probs, you're
welcome to help you ;) But your mixed up installation isn't
supportable for a maintainer, though.

It might be interesting to note in the description how this relates to
nstx.

Bug#430208: libois should authorize access to joystick

2007-06-23 Thread Mathieu ROGER

Package: libois1
Version : 0.99+1.0rc1-1

Logged as a simple user OIS reports no existing joystick whereas logged
as root it correctly detects the connected joystick => It is a matter of
access rights to /dev/input/event*

OIS authors suggest doing something with udev rules, see
http://www.wreckedgames.com/wiki/index.php/WreckedLibs:OIS:Manual:Linux

I am unable to judge this technic.

I suggest that something should be done at the package or source level
to authorize access to joysticks for all users (just imagine the same on
keyboard or mouse !).

Thanks for the V1 release.

I can't reproduce this problem. I ran a DHCP server/client pair, and
where the ntp-servers were not requested, none was included in the
information accessible to the hooks.

Try modifying the debug hooks to include new_ntp_servers and
old_ntp_servers in the list of variables they write out, and enable the
debug hooks whilst acquiring a lease.

Andrew

There is also nstx. Is iodine better? Or why do you want it in the

Bug#430213: freeciv-client-gtk: crash when moving to next active unit

2007-06-23 Thread Duck

Package: freeciv-client-gtk
Version: 2.0.9-2

Coin,

I was trying to steal a technology, then the UI switched to the next
active unit and crashed with the following message (with debug) :
0: Detected fatal error in ../../common/unit.c line 76:
0: In common/unit.c:unit_move_rate: illegal move type 0
Program exited with code 01.

Skipping the diplomat move so has to have the unit play order change,
often result in avoiding the crash.

Bug#430212: Driver block is overly generic

2007-06-23 Thread Wouter Verhelst
Package: gnokii
Version: 0.6.16-2
Severity: normal
File: /usr/bin/xgnokii

Hi,

When I try to start xgnokii, I receive a message that claims gnokii to
be "known broken" with my phone, and it wants to exit after that (even
though it fails doing so). The error message points to
 for more
information.

Reading that page shows that the driver had been disabled because
someone found that connecting to their old Nokia phone (one which uses a
different driver from my 6021) over IrDA (rather than bluetooth, as in
my case) broke their phone. It turns out that this old phone doesn't
really support IrDA, which therefore means that using IrDA instead of
the "infrared" driver that was written for that specific protocol is a
bad idea.

While I can understand that xgnokii would want to avoid connecting to
such phones using the "IrDA" protocol, I would tend to think that
connecting to the phone using a totally different connection method
*and* a totally different phone driver should not be affected by this
precautionary measure.
