Bug#265747: more info on hangs with Cyberdrive and VIA chipset.

2005-12-03 Thread Alban BROWAEYS
I hate to report that Windows XP with Nero works
without problems,
but is not my favorite OS.

Could you tell if windows have disabled dma
automatically ?

Once you know the ide controller your cdrom is bound
to (see the note at the end of the mail):

- open Device Manager IDE ATA/ATAPI Controller,
select the wanted controller.
- open its properties window and switch to advanced
settings tab.
There you have two device data group (0 and 1). I do
not know how to find which one related to the cdrom
(here I only have the cdrom on the secondary ide
channel so it is the entry with a current transfer
mode).

please gives us the current transfert mode. I have
ultra DMA mode 2 here (only as reference, the bug
does not show up on this box). This means DMA is
enabled.

Greetings.
Alban

PS: you could try latest = 2.6.14-rc3* kernels if
your are easy with compiling a the kernel.
The reimplementation of the IDE code is mostly
complete nows (this is/was the biggest remaining not
so good code in linux).
I do not have access to the box I own which have the
broken cdwriter before monthes.

I highly expect your results (even if only the windows
behaviour - disabling the dma or relying on via to
provide a driver with an unknown trick to work well
even with the hardware behaving badly).

---

HOWTO find the IDE Controller the cdrom is bound
... to without opening the box and knowing about pc
internals.

- linux : if your cdrom is on the first ide connector
it is bound tohda or hdb
- windows :
Device Manager IDE ATA/ATAPI Controller
the open properties window for each IDE controller
and switch to details tab. In the list choose Bus
relations and you will see a name.
This name is in device manager cdrom list.

Bug#277991: Acknowledgement (shared-mime-info: freedesktop.xml broken - incorrect offset ?)

1444 mode 0644

Please re-open this bug if you're still seeing this problem

Thank you for testing, though the issue is not fixed. The problem was that a
tar.gz could be detected as a tex font
not the opposite. Mea culpa for the fast and too short bug report.

I did not ship the tar.gz (way too big) though i paste the relevant part of the
file in my report
When the site works (dynamic ip :( you can reach my copy on
http://prahal.darktech.org/debianbugs/GTK2-AluminumAlloy-Volcanic.tar.gz

From my first report:

the start of the tar.gz
0: 037 213 010 000 021 117 005 100 000 003 354 134 011 074 124 373
AluminumAlloy-Volcanic/@@[EMAIL
PROTECTED]@@@@^@ in ascii

to compare i put an extract from a random tex font:
/usr/share/texmf/fonts/tfm/public/misc/manfnt.tfm
0: 001 023 000 022 000 000 000 177 000 065 000 020 000 005 000 011
@@@^

then the rationale i was able to make from the file too database (file
myfile.tar.gz was detected as tar.gz when
nautilus via shared mime info data - obviously using the magic detection not
the extension - detected it as a
tex font).
I also focused on the tex font pattern.

/usr/share/misc/file/magic line 9730
# There is no way to detect TeX Font Metric (*.tfm) files without
# breaking them apart and reading the data. The following patterns
# match most *.tfm files generated by METAFONT or afm2tfm.
2 string \000\021TeX font metric data
33 string \0 (%s)
2 string \000\022TeX font metric data
33 string \0 (%s)

/usr/share/mime/packages/freedesktop.org.xml line 3138
magic priority=50
match value=\000\021 type=string offset=2/
match value=\000\022 type=string offset=2/
/magic

tar.gz
0: 037 213 010 000 021
 ^^^
tex font:
0: 001 023 000 022
 ^^^

so i guessed that shared-mime-info count from -1 :(

the issue could have remained unnoticed by most as if the offset is wrong for
all pattern shared mime info will
fail back to extension matching.

The issue still exists with 0.16-3.

I really hope i am wrong as changing the offset now that the freeze happened
would mean any of the thousands of patterns
may have unknown bugs. Better ship the broken tested version for sarge ...

Alban

Bug#237631: add tag patch

2005-10-19 Thread Alban Browaeys
package gnome-pilot
tags 237631 patch
stop

I have used this patch for monthes (I cannot tell if it is the best way
but can confirm this tracked the right flaw). My last issues (using a
Palm V) is that gnome-pilot try to send mutli days events which are not
supported by the OS (I guess palm =3.5 maybe above too).
Jpilot works well so I guess the fix is a matter of hours (though I have
not Managed to get it done for a year :-(

Though the split mutli days events options on evolution conduits did Not
help so the issue may be otherwise.

The crash happens in pilot-link (that jpilot also use) though I believe
it to be wrong to fix it by adding policy so low in the chain (though
I believe pilot-link should not crash, but report an error).

PS: would not a comainternaiship with the ubuntu maintenair be a
solution.
It looks like you miss the time to handles the few (though really
harmfull) Bugs. But you are the one who know this package the best ...

Or at least a request for help ?

I am sorry not to have been able to help. Helping getting evolution
calendar stable (else gnome-pilot was not that usefull ) eated so much
already.

Bug#503010: #503010 [G||] [gallery2] gallery2: fails to upgrade / fails to install - fwrite error

2008-10-21 Thread Alban Browaeys
Package: gallery2
Version: 2.3-1
Followup-For: Bug #503010

Hi

I investigate a bit deeper about the second issue (fails to re-install) :
the problem lays down in the fwrite call in
install/steps/CreateConfigFileStep.class
line 127.
For me this line returns false after is_writable and fopen succeed.
I am out of clue about what is happening though this may be more dependant on
my system
than I first thought (I hope this is not a bug introduced in the upgrade to
php5 5.2.6-5 that
I upgraded at teh same time as gallery2 be it in the code or if the default
config has a change
that could explain such an issue ...

I bet this also explains the config.php truncated to 0 on upgrade.

Best regards,
Alban

Bug#491219: [PATCH] python-debianbts takes precedance over /usr/share/reportbug/reportbuglib/debianbts.py

2008-07-17 Thread Alban Browaeys
Package: reportbug
Version: 3.42
Severity: important
Tags: patch

Hi. I am new to python and the debian policy regarding how to handle
them though I found a workaround to get debreaper working again.
It was failing
Traceback (most recent call last):
File /usr/share/debreaper/debreaper, line 70, in module
report = generate_report (status[1], status[0], status[2], status[3], path,

 File /usr/share/debreaper/bug_iface.py, line 27, in generate_report

application crashed ***\n\n+gdbout)
 File /usr/share/reportbug/reportbuglib/reportbug.py, line 721, in
generate_blank_report
if debianbts.SYSTEMS[system].has_key('namefmt'):
AttributeError: 'module' object has no attribute 'SYSTEMS'

due to python-debianbts (dependency of reportbug-ng) tyaking precedance in the
import search path in /usr/share/reportbug/reportbuglib/reportbug.py

This patch works around it by adding /usr/share/reportbug/reportbuglib first in
the import search path.

Best regards
Alban

Bug#491370: [hugin] calling enblend with wrong option --compression - failure to assemble images

2008-07-18 Thread Alban Browaeys
Package: hugin
Version: 0.7.0~svn3191-1
Severity: important

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
The problem is shown in the stitch it window :

nona -z PACKBITS -r ldr -m TIFF_m -o a -i 1 /tmp/huginpto_ovwf1i
nona -z PACKBITS -r ldr -m TIFF_m -o a -i 2 /tmp/huginpto_ovwf1i
enblend --compression NONE -f566056x566056 -o a.tif a0001.tif a0002.tif
enblend, version 3.0
Usage: enblend [options] -o OUTPUT INPUTS

Common options:
-aPre-assemble non-overlapping images
-hPrint this help message
-l number Number of levels to use (1 to 29)
-o filename Write output to file
-vVerbose
-wBlend across -180/+180 boundary
-zUse LZW compression
-xCheckpoint partial results

Extended options:
-b kilobytes Image cache block size (default=2MiB)
-cUse CIECAM02 to blend colors
-gAssociated alpha hack for Gimp (ver. 2) and Cinepaint
--gpu Use the graphics card to accelerate some computations.
-f WIDTHxHEIGHT Manually set the size of the output image.
Useful for cropped and shifted input TIFF images,
such as those produced by Nona.
-m megabytes Use this much memory before going to disk (default=1GiB)
--visualize=FILE Save the optimizer's results for debugging.

Mask generation options:
--coarse-mask Use an approximation to speedup mask generation. Default.
--fine-mask Enables detailed mask generation. Slow. Use this if you
 have very narrow overlap regions.
--optimizeTurn on mask optimization. This is the default.
--no-optimize Turn off mask optimization.
--save-mask=FILE Save the generated mask to the given file.
--load-mask=FILE Use the mask in the given file instead of generating one.
enblend: unrecognized option `--compression'
make: *** [a.tif] Erreur 1

It seems no compression is applied by default so the --compression could be
stripped from hugin.

BR,
Alban

Bug#491370: enblend: compile cvs version with debian/ from current version

2008-07-18 Thread Alban Browaeys
Package: enblend
Version: 3.0+dfsg-2
Followup-For: Bug #491370

apt-get source enblend
cvs -z3 -d:pserver::/cvsroot/enblend co -P enblend

cp -R enblend-3.0+dfsg/debian/ to the enblend/ directory
replace debian/type_mismatch.dpatch with attached one
add libopenexr-dev to Build-Depends in debian/control

aclocal -I m4/
autoheader
automake --add-missing
autoconf

dch -n
dpkg-buildpackage -b -uc -us

In case it may be of use or if there is still one year before release .

Still need to test at usage but the package compile and run basic commands.

A conflict or a rename of the binary on one side (zell it seems a lot of
package ships this zip binary so a set of conflicts
at first may be the easiest).

Bug#465175: file conflict with fp-utils (free pascal) which provides ptop

2008-02-10 Thread Alban Browaeys
Package: ptop
Severity: normal

I do not know what to suggest as ptop is a good name for a top like util
... maybe fp-utils could rename the binary even though it exists for a
long time. But I see good works happening in the free pascal front and
ptop your package is of great use too. It would be good for both
projects if this difficult issue could be resolved.
Sorry to have raised it as naming issues are always costly in terms of
time and of dubious interest in most cases (except I hope this one).

Bug#465338: #465338: network-manager: garbled names in list of networks

2008-02-12 Thread Alban Browaeys
Package: network-manager
Followup-For: Bug #465338

Sorry for my mistake. The kernel is not at fault it was wpasupplicant
0.6.2+git20080206.g8c0dad4-1 . Downgrading to 0.6.1~git20071119-1 indeed
fixes the issue (with both 2.6.23 and 2.6.24). (though it still affects only
the dbus interface). I
don't know how I mistested the different downgrade I made beforehand but
I was wrong.

Bug#465338: #465338: network-manager: garbled names in list of networks

2008-02-12 Thread Alban Browaeys
Package: network-manager
Followup-For: Bug #465338

Just to help user and getting the thing fixed if anybody goes faster
than I (which would not be that hard as I am still looking around
searching for where wpa_supplicant garbles the essid from
drivers/driver_wext.c wpa_driver_wext_get_ssid (called by
where it looks ok to ctrl_iface_dbus_handlers.c
wpas_dbus_bssid_properties where it is corrupted).
The easiest way to fix the issue is to downgrade the kernel to 2.6.23.
Downgrading anything else changes nothing (tried glib as I upgraded to
2.15 beforehand and wpasupplicant). But the issue looks like it
should be best fixed in wpasupplicant (though the git is offline right
now which does not help in finding out if a fix has already been found,
thus I am trying on my side).
I opened bugs upstream for NetworkManager but not yet for wpasupplicant
(as I don't know yet what the issue is):
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=515848
http://mail.gnome.org/archives/networkmanager-list/2008-February/msg00094.html

What weird and that may explains the bug has gone unoticed is that
wpasupplicant
wpa_gui scan shows correct output. Only wpasupplicant dbus output is
corrupted as it seems.
The bug does not affect 0.6.5 as it still uses the socket interface
which is not affected.

Best regards
Alban

Bug#453633: system-tools-backends: please package 2.3 as it is required for gnome-system-tools to support wpa

2007-11-30 Thread Alban Browaeys
Package: system-tools-backends

As I found out by testing and in http://lwn.net/Articles/241224/
gnome-system-tools 2.20 wpa support is only enabled if
system-tools-backends is at least version 2.3.0.
I made a package of 2.3.2
http://system-tools-backends.freedesktop.org/downloads/2.3/
with just copying the debian directory (and well removing the ubuntu
patch that I do not needed). And it works perfectly.

Bug#451256: evolution-data-server: the configure script shipped is really really old and not in sync with configure.in

2007-11-14 Thread Alban Browaeys
Package: evolution-data-server
Version: 1.12.1-1
Severity: normal

The configure does not even include the pkg-config test (except for the
old glib hardcoded one).
Please refresh the configure file maybe in debian/rules if possible.
What I do not understand is that configure is not part of upstream
source so it must be our .orig.tar.gz that is broken.

Bug#311546: postgresql-7.4: changing postgres uid breaks pg_ctrcluster

2005-06-02 Thread Alban browaeys
Le jeudi 02 juin 2005 à 13:35 +0200, Martin Pitt a écrit :
 [2005-06-01 20:17 +0200]:
pg_ctrlcluster get the postmaster uid and gid from the cluster.
It was 31:32 when i created it.

I had deleted and recreated the postgres account to update it
(you removed its shell and maybe other things so not to miss any
part i used the postinst adduser command to recreate it).
The new uid/gid where (fake ones) 122:122.

D'oh, please don't do such things. System account IDs must not be
modified since that breaks all files that are owned by them. You can
modify all the other properties (GECOS, shell, whatever) without any
problem, but if you change the IDs, you also have to change the owner
and group of all files which are owned by the account, and
additionally stop all running servers before (they also run under the
postgres account).

Thus running the postgresql-7.4 init script fired pg_ctrcluster
which retrieved the old uid/gid from the cluster (31:32) and
changed the process uid/gid to match the cluster one before
 calling pg_ctl.
pg_ctl was running with an inexistant account.

Yes, this can lead to all sorts of weirdnesses. I will add a test to
pg_ctlcluster that will refuse to start the postmaster if the account
is not valid to prevent such failures in the future.

That s way better than my hack . I also though it would be great to
manage it at a higher level (less bloat then adding check in every part
of the code that deal with uid, better do it at the entry point). Though
i still have a comment ...

 And in pg_ctl , l.114 :
 if [ `$PGPATH/pg_id -u` -eq 0 ]
 then
echo $CMDNAME: cannot be run as root 12
 (...)

Right, this could be made much more robust with

 if [ `$PGPATH/pg_id -u` = 0 ]

== would be posix complient. Though i am against the use for test ([]) when
testing a command output (instead of a variable). I am addicted to :
 if `$PGPATH/pg_id -u` ;
or use of a temp variable to store the command output. Easier to
debug :)
(it is pretty hard to debug command output in if [ `command` ] )

echo This user does not exists . You may have changed the uid
of the account used to create this database cluster. You should
dump, drop and reinit a the cluster.
 fi

I will implement something like that in pg_ctlcluster in Perl.

Maybe all this is too much for a special case which may not
appear often as the problem never arise as far as i searched for
this error. Please close this bug if you think so.

Well, I will close it when I added the check to make the error more
obvious.

I am used to always putting quote around shell variables though this
time i found it great you did not. Else i would never have found out why
pg_ctl acted in a weird way.
At least pg_ctl fails if it runs with a broken uid. With the quote it
would not. I feel that the fact this code break if the process uid is
invalid is a good thing ... with quote it will think that .../pg_id:
Success in sterr is a valid uid when 0 is not.
Maybe the check at pg_ctlcluster level is enough :)

Thank you for the quick followup.

 mozilla will do hte trick.

Thanks, but that'll result in all tabs being in a single window, right?
That's not exactly the same thing as my former Galeon session, but I
don't know if the difference is relevant...

yes and no. THe first part , saving the tabs as a bookmarks folder work
per window, so the issue is mostly fixed by saving each window tabs to a
new bookmark folder. Then in the second part opening a new window before
opening folder as tabs.
If there is a lot of tabs per windows that s ok, if you have 80 windows
with only a few tabs for each one, the problem remain.

Bug#285761: Galeon eats memory

Hi,

This is a followup for Debian bug http://bugs.debian.org/285761.

 - Wed, Feb 02, 2005:

It may be useful to run xrestop for this. Note: If you just run
 top,
...
could you try loading a lot of images without browsing much and
compare the X memory usage, maybe using xrestop to check pixmap
 mem usage.
I do not see this leak so it may be a mozilla bug only.

I clearly have the leak with Galeon so this could really be the
problem (thanks Alban for the tip). Run xrestop in a xterm, start
Galeon, go to www.gimp.org and click on screenshots, once the page is
loaded, open up a new Galeon window and close the first one: the Galeon
process should still show up with around 8 MB of X resources in
 xrestop.

Jerome, do you see any reason why this wouldn't be your bug? Given the
rate at which mozilla leaks here, I guess it could be the problem. I
intend to merge that bug with the mozilla bug if you're ok with that.

 Bye,

it also looks like
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=245026 , though this
one was merge with a flashplugin bug/konqueror bug then closed.
But the first reports don't talk about flash and report the same amount
of leakage.

Those three bugs should at least be merged. If only to lighten the
burden over branden and takuo arms :)

Thanks for the gimp example, i was able to reproduce it somehow. But
refreshing or opening the same image in another window does not up the
memory usage. Closing the browser free the memory so it may not an
xserver bug.
It seems like the image stay in the memory cache. I though they ought to
move to disk cache when the window is closed but maybe i was wrong. At
least the memory cache should have a timeout to avoid us who never close
our browser to avoid memory hog.

I read a bit more about xrestop and found out it often underetimate
memory usage (does not take background pixmaps into account).
http://www.freedesktop.org/Software/xrestop
I don't know what this is , but i though it was a must know and may
explain difference between top and xrestop X memory usage.

Bug#286728: Bug #286728 - galeon: since upgrade to GNOME 2.8, no external viewers are available

2005-02-06 Thread Alban browaeys

Did you see the second message I sent to this bug? I independently
came to much the same conclusion. I now consider the true bug to be
that you have to have nautilus installed in order to make the mime
bindings work at all. (I was able to add xpdf as an alternative to
gpdf by going through nautilus' file associations panel.)

Yes, but the explanation was a little short and i was not certain you
mrant that.
Also yes you have to have desktop-file-utils for the applications to
register properly (as Loic told) and anutilus to add new apllications to
a mime type.
The former will hopefully be fixed by cleaning the dependencies but the
former have no fix. There is no editor for the new freedesktop mime
system (except nautilus but it s a border effect of one of its
fonctionality).
As far as i know upstream don't intend to readd a mime editor per se.
But galeon already have a system like nautilus. WHen you open a file
type not managed by galeon it popup a window asking to open or save but
one can expand it to show other registered applications. Maybe adding a
other application field could fix you second issue (opening with
xpdf).

Cheers
Alban

Bug#301140: acknowledged by developer (Re: Processed: Re: Bug#301140: libstdc++6-4.0-doc: dpkg fails to manage this package : filenames too long (on my box at least))

2005-03-25 Thread Alban browaeys
The File name too long is an error returned by the rename() call,
specifically ENAMETOOLONG.

This filename is too long for your filesystem. I don't think dpkg
should randomly truncate or alter filenames, therefore there's nothing
dpkg can do here other than abort the installation.

well i agree but i use ext3 which is default filesystem for debian. So
it breaks for most users ( and ext is not the one with the lowest limit
so most filesystem are affected too).

as the html dir doc is already compiled with the option for short
filenames could the html_user dir be too ?

Though i would not have found out it was a fs problem. Thank you for the
information.

the web page is outdated and the mail available on it and provided for
debian package maintaince is full.

Though this project have a mailing list where it seems all developpment
happens.
There are heavy talks about patches for 2.6.10 from the upstream author
so it may not be a dead project , only that all happens on the ML (as a
lot of OSS projects).

http://lists.community.tummy.com/pipermail/enbd/2005/thread.html

I sent a mail on list to tell the developper about debian problem with

Bug#275388: correct previous buggy request - wishlist for kernel param explanation

2005-03-28 Thread Alban browaeys
retitle 275388 could grub README explain how to append kernel parameters
severity wishlist
quit

i have reassigned the report to grub as the reported told he prefer
there to be only the example for most common boot loader then nothing
(change from previous request which was to explain in details how to use
devfs for each)

the breakage of my request also prevented it from being set to wishlist.

I think this report should be either managed, tagged wontfix, closed or
discussed on debian-devel.

Sending it to general seems odd (it is for problem affecting mulitple
packages !). And as general is not really managed by anybody (mail sent
to debian-devel ... perfect for flame wars).

Bug#302741: Bug #302741 - scilab: Scilab starts with a very small window and an unreadable small font

2005-04-04 Thread Alban browaeys
Do you know, how can I check what particular font (and what options) are
being used by a running scilab? This way I could compare my two
instalations and find out why one of them it is working and not the
other one.
There are still a few black area for me regarding the way gnome manage
fonts (it supports the standard linux fontconfig but also have microsoft
and support for pre fontconfig system ... i need to understand the later
ones yet).

By now i know how to compare the fontconfig part :
fc-list output the list of all fonts registered to fontconfig.
You can save its output on both system and compare them.
Please send the difference. I will then reproduce the broken system font
installation.
(could you tell the dpi setting on you system. This would help reproduce
the problem as the available fonts depends on the dpi range used).

Sadly as i told there are other font backend so the problem could be
with those. But we can at least check this one first.

Bug#303535: phpmyadmin: htaccess override apache.conf settings

It looks quite dangerous security wise. Could the overlapping

You're probably right, the /etc/phpmyadmin/htaccess file shouldn't override
global configuration but I don't understand why it might be so dangerouse. At
least it is the conffile which can be modified by administrator.

Not so dangerous else i would have set it to serious or such. There is
really no hurry.
I set all my admin web applications as localhost until i feel confident
with the setup.
You guess that i was wondering why my phpmyadmin was still accessible
from the web after setting the Allow to localhost :)
The Allow All opening everything , whatever it is set in apache.conf
is discarded.

What would you think about setting Allow to localhost only by default ?
I want to advocate it. Either the user know how to open it wider or he
know so few about web server that he probably don't have a properly
setup firewall ...
This may seems unbelievable but 14000 mysql server where infected by a
worm due to this problem. It was open to all and user did not close the
port with their firewall (and apache virtual host being on 80 most user
that want to serve pages but don't want to open admin on the net would
be affected by an xss in phpmyadmin). And phpmyadmin would workaround
the localhost default of mysql admin.
As users of mysql are often users of mysql i guess the skills of their
admins are quite the same.

For example apache is open on localhost by default but phpmyadmin would
still be accessible from the net if one use the ip instead of the
fqdn ...

I really don't see such a policy change for sarge though it looks
interesting to look after it for post sarge (and the newborn web
applications policy, well only dbconfig-common policy by now)

Package: xbase-clients
Version: 4.2.1-12.1
Severity: normal

Hi,

xcalc has wrong or no symbols on some of it's buttons. The sqrt button
has a wrong symbol (somewhat like a greek delta plus an equal sign with
a tilde) and the division button has no symbol on it.
I can send you a snapshot if you want.

Maybe it's a font problem, so the sqrt symbol is wrong (could be
avoided by using SQRT as button label). But this would not explain
why the slash is missing on the division button.

Uwe

From: Uwe Storbeck
Seems to be fixed in current sarge.

For the submitter the problem is fixed but i have checked and have the
same problem with 4.3.0.dfsg.1-12.0.1 ...

sqaure is delta and the near equal sign divide is empty

Sorry to reopen it. I had it on my todo and hope to find out what is
happening before christmas .

locale

The buttons label comes from XCalc ressource file:

XCalc*ti.button20.font: -adobe-symbol-*-*-*-*-*-120-*-*-*-*-*-*
XCalc*ti.button20.label:\270
XCalc*ti.button20.translations: #overrideBtn1Down,Btn1Up:divide()unset()

XCalc*ti.button3.font: -adobe-symbol-*-*-*-*-*-120-*-*-*-*-*-*
XCalc*ti.button3.label: \140
XCalc*ti.button3.translations: #overrideBtn1Down,Btn1Up:squareRoot()unset()

same for XCalc.hp.*

i first guessed that this font was missing/broken on my setup though pi
works and is
: XCalc*ti.button16.font: -adobe-symbol-*-*-*-*-*-120-*-*-*-*-*-*
XCalc*ti.button16.label:\160
XCalc*ti.button16.translations: #overrideBtn1Down,Btn1Up:pi()unset()

I will dig this up as soon as i learn more about x core fonts ...

Bug#304131: doc directory follow the library or not ?

As:
http://packages.debian.org/cgi-bin/search_contents.pl?searchmode=filelistword=libgnomedb2-docversion=unstablearch=allpage=2number=50

show the libgnomedb2-doc package ship files in
/usr/share/doc/libgnomedb2-doc
and
/usr/share/doc/libgnomedb2-4-doc

Per se it is not a problem though the rule file also use both to make
symlinks and some end in nowhere land.

libgnomedb2-doc: error at upgrade - cannot create dhelp file :

the libgnomedb doc directory is there :
/usr/share/doc/libgnomedb2-4-doc/libgnomedb/

i think about changing :
libgnomedb2-doc.doc-base.libgnomedb-reference
to something like control.in and generate a new file with @SONAME@ in it ot end
up with :

Document: libgnomedb2-reference
Title: libgnomedb Reference Manual
Author: Rodrigo Moya
Abstract: This manual describes API which libgnomedb offers
Section: Apps/Programming

Format: HTML
Index: /usr/share/doc/libgnomedb2-4-doc/libgnomedb/index.html

instead of :
Format: HTML
Index: /usr/share/doc/libgnomedb2-doc/libgnomedb/index.html
Files: /usr/share/doc/libgnomedb2-doc/libgnomedb/*.html

but again i have a problem. cdbs read all files in the packagename.doc-base.*
so it end up using my:
libgnomedb2-doc.doc-base.libgnomedb-reference.in and not the generated
libgnomedb2-doc.doc-base.libgnomedb-reference

By the way what is the point of creating :
libgnomedb2-4-doc.doc-base.libgnomedb-reference
from libgnomedb2-doc.doc-base.libgnomedb-reference ? from my tests cdbs end up
using the latter and does nothing
with the former.

cdbs use this to get the document id and generate the postinst/prerm:

 opendir(DEB,debian/) || error(can't read debian directory: $!);
# If this is the main package, we need to handle unprefixed filenames.
# For all packages, we must support both the usual filename format plus

Bug#260808: avifile-player: Aviplay works fine in my system

2005-01-17 Thread Alban browaeys
I haven't isolated the bug or anything more beyond knowing that it
crashed my X. If this bug report is not particularly useful, please
feel free to trash it. I apologise if I'm wasting your time. Thanks
much,

X crash are due to X drivers bugs. Could you try with the current
release of xserver-xfree86 ?

Also can you tell which graphic card you have , maybe the bug is
already report on xserver-xfree86. avifile use Xv (Xserver video
extension) , which is not yet supported by old cards (ex. my s3 virge
does not). BUt a lot of fixes for bugs with those where applied a
few monthes ago (thanks Alan Cox !)

Also you can check that your card support Xv yourself , using :
$ xdpyinfo |grep XVideo
in an X terminal (xterm, konsole,...). If nothing is outputed it does
not and there is a bug in avifile-player too, as it should check if
it is supported before using it. (even though X ought not to crash anyway).
You could also check the newest avifile-player

Please test those before reporting the bug to xserver-xfree86, their list
of bug is overcrowded (though its dropping fastly). Adding those information
would fastened the bug process a lot.

If you do not have this video file anymore, maybe you could download the one
from :
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=274730
it crash avifile here (but not Xfree, i got an Xv error. I guess my driver
xvideo support is stable).

For example i did not have crash with applications using xv on radeon,
nvidia and s3 , but had on a trident (it was around your test time, i also have
to recheck with current release).

Bug#296412: isn't it a known apt bug ?

2005-02-22 Thread Alban browaeys
This looks a lot like :
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=170522

it does not look like apt-listbugs should take care of
dependencies. It is there to prevent upgrade of buggy packages.
The fact that apt try to upgrade dependencies seems more like an
apt bug per se

Could someone reassign to apt and merge those reports if
appropriate ?

ln -s /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun/jre/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so
/etc/alternatives/iceweasel-javaplugin.so

then restarting the browser fixed it for me.
Btw why is not there any alternative for iceweasel-javaplugin.so and
mozilla-javaplugin.so (it only registers java6 plugin) while I have both
sun-java5-plugin and sun-java6-plugin ?

Bug#442146: seahorse: broken Xsession startup script ... breaks applets using dbus for example

2007-09-13 Thread Alban Browaeys
Package: seahorse
Version: 1.0.1-6
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks unrelated software

/etc/X11/Xsession.d/60seahorse contains --execute switch for seahorse.
This switch does not exists anymore and thus this produce an error when
STARTUP variable get executed (and thus breaks for example dbus-launch
which is in it).
I guess this is also alter the notification daemon.

Bug#442148: hardening Xsession of gdm to detect incorrect Xsession.d scripts for example

2007-09-13 Thread Alban Browaeys
Package: gdm
Version: 2.18.4-1
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Attached is a patch that put /etc/gdm/Xsession on par with
/etc/X11/Xsession (set -e) . I find it really usefull as it detects if
something is wrong in the STARTUP variable while it is exec by
99x11-common_start . This happened to me that seahorse xsession script
was (is still) broken and it went undetected preventing the other
executable in this variable from working soon enough for the gnome-panel
(dbus for example was not available to the applets).

Best regards,
Alban

Bug#439427: debian menu broken due to previous menu-xdg menu method incorrect run

2007-08-28 Thread Alban Browaeys
Package: menu-xdg
Version: 0.2.3
Followup-For: Bug #439427

A previous run created incorrect files in /var/lib/menu-xdg instead of the
directory
(see attached archive). This leads to this error while running dpkg-reconfigure
menu or menu-xdg.

Execution of /usr/share/menu/cdd-menu generated no output or returned an error.
Unknown error, message=Could not create directory(menu-xdg): File exists
install-menu: /etc/menu-methods/xdg-desktop-entry-spec-dirs: aborting

install-menu: /etc/menu-methods/xdg-desktop-entry-spec-sessions: aborting
update-menus[7314]: Script /etc/menu-methods/xdg-desktop-entry-spec-sessions
returned error status 1.

This produces unusable debian menus .
It looks like
http://www.yepthatsme.com/2005/10/12/if-your-debian-menu-in-gnome-ever-disappears/
.
I fixed it via rm -Rf /var/lib/menu-xdg/* plus dpkg-reconfigure menu-xdg.

I wonder if it is a problem that can be fixed in the package or menu-method (by
checking if those
are files instead of directories and deleting them if so).

Alban

Please package 0.1.31 or up. Eclipse 3.3 uses 0.1.31 .
Though it seems to me there where no api/abi changes between 0.1.28 and
0.1.31 so it may not be a big issue ...

Anyway I did a 0.1.34 version of those. Attached is the diff against
svn.debian.org/svn/pkg-java/trunk/ .
I made an orig tarball available at

This is possible to do, but I would be very much interested to know
how /var/lib/menu-xdg/xsessions ended being a file instead of a
directory. I checked carefully and update-menus cannot do that.
Especially the content of /var/lib/menu-xdg/xsessions is strange.
What filesystem are you using ?

Cheers,

THe filesystem is ext3. I don't think we ought to manage this error
case. It is only I think I found out what caused the debian menu to
dissappear (though I cannot explain it). I hope this could help resolve
the bug that s all.

Bug#437696: wine don't start and freeze the computer

2007-09-06 Thread Alban Browaeys
Could you check that your soundcard is not managed by the alsa
snd-ice1724 driver ? There are reports of wine freezing the computer
when this driver is used.
If so as a temporary workaround you can
move /usr/lib/wine/wineoss.drv.so somewhere else and run winecfg to
choose alsa in the sound section.

cf http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-426900.html
and https://bugtrack.alsa-project.org/alsa-bug/view.php?id=3383

Sorry ot was uneeded in regards to one of your previous email I just
read :
I started it from the command line, which resolves to
/usr/bin/eclipse. I've attached the 'strace' output. The relevant
line
would appear to be #353:

execve(/usr/lib/eclipse/eclipse, [/usr/lib/eclipse/eclipse, -vm,
/usr/lib/jvm/java-gcj/bin/java, -install, /usr/lib/eclipse,
-startup, /usr/lib/eclipse/startup.jar, -vmargs,

-Dgnu.gcj.precompiled.db.path=/v...,
-Dgnu.gcj.runtime.VMClassLoader, -Dosgi.locking=none], [/* 34
vars */]) = 0

thus -startup argument is correct.

I have no clue. Again sorry for the noise

Bug#447603: scribus-ng: dead keys does not work under debian (qt imm issue)

2007-10-22 Thread Alban Browaeys
Package: scribus-ng
Version: 1.3.4.dfsg-1
Severity: important

As found upstream http://bugs.scribus.net/view.php?id=1908
this affect 1.3.3 and 1.3.4 . I find that in debian kwrite 3.5.8
the problem does not exists (my desktop is mostly gnome so I cannot tell
if it always worked or was fixed recently).
As can be seen my settings are french . I cannot type any â, ï or alike.

Though I found a workaround. Typing them in scribus font selector or kwrite
then pasting them (pasting the characters from a gtk/gnome application does
not,
probably another qt issue).

Alban

Bug#447821: xmms-singit: Depends on removed libssl0.9.7

Well, it could. However, xmms-singit has been removed from
testing/unstable, and personally I'm currently not eager to bring it
back. And the version in experimental most definitely isn't fit for
release, either!
Do you have an old version from the time when it was still in testing /
unstable or rather the version from experimental installed? Your
bugreport doesn't say ...

Either way, as long as nobody picks up this package soon the Debian
support for it will cease to exist. Please see
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=424660
for some background info.

Thank you for the quick reply and the background input. I was merely
doing a sanity check of the other packages that had dependencies on old
libssl0.9.7 and found out there were no reports of this peculiar issues
in xmms-singit. Thus the bug report.

I wish you the best
Alban

Bug#444491: gnome-power-manager: policy timeout error due to weird check foreground result

2007-09-28 Thread Alban Browaeys
Package: gnome-power-manager
Version: 2.20.0-1+b1
Severity: important

Triggering any power managment event gives me this notficiation error :
Action forbidden
Policy timeout is not valid. Retry in a few seconds

Enabling debugging and starting it with --no-daemon leads me to this :
[gpm_control_is_policy_timout_valid] gpm-control.c:128 (05:47:49):
check-foreground-console returned with 1

This so looks like a libpam-foreground issue (I am the only user of the
box and there is only one X session thus check-foreground-console ought
not to fail). Please redirect this bug report if you see fit. I wanted
to know if we could disable this test until libpam-foreground was fixed

Alban

Running ccsm crashes compiz . Crashandler properly creates a gdb
backtrace but it is useless (misses all the symbols).
Could you provides -dbg packages ?

Alban

PS: sources packages would be great too but it may be too cumbersome ...
Thank you for your packaging. Last update fixed most crashes I had
(opening a file in audacity, and a lot more).

I know libgcj.pc is shipped by gcj but bugreports tells me to choose you
as gcj is a dependency package.
As told gcj ship :
/usr/lib/pkgconfig/../../lib/pkgconfig/libgcj.pc - libgcj7-0.pc

Bug#421116: freecraft: does not start on 1280x960 displays

2007-04-26 Thread Alban Browaeys
Package: freecraft
Version: 1:1.18-2.3
Severity: normal

I get :
Couldn't set 1280x960x0 video mode: No video mode large enough for
1280x960
when trying to start freecraft.

It seems the games needs an update to handle big screens.
Changing the resolution through randr does not help.

Bug#426422: xserver-xorg-video-ati: X freezes with arkhart and vegastrike with version 1:6.6.192-1 (build from experim source)

2007-05-31 Thread Alban Browaeys
Does it happen with driver 6.6.3 or 6.6.191 (available from
snapshot.debian.net)? Or with another xserver-xorg-core?

Yes it does. In fact with previous versions failure happens sooner
and for more games (torcs, nexuiz crash too with them).

What could I do other than the not so useful backtrace ?

Alban

Bug#427668: qemu 0.9 deb package fails to start winxp

2007-06-05 Thread Alban Browaeys
Package: qemu
Version: 0.9.0-2
Severity: normal

qemu cvs works as does qemu 0.9 debian packages. But newer debian
packages fails to start winxp. It shows the win logo for a few
milliseconds then reboots.
I have not found out if it was a debian patch that broke or a change
in trunk that fixed it...

Bug#426422: RE : Re: Bug#426422: xserver-xorg-video-ati: X freezes with arkhart and vegastrike with version 1:6.6.192-1 (build from experim source)

Yes it does. In fact with previous versions
failure happens sooner
and for more games (torcs, nexuiz crash too with
them).
Which mesa are you using? 6.5.2 from unstable? Could
you try with 6.5.3
from experimental? (at least libgl1-mesa-dri)

I got the same issues with 6.5.3 (I was using 6.5.2).
Could you give it a try especially if you are not
using an ati driver so it could be tracked either to
mesa or to ati driver ?
When running arkclient (arkhart) the processor usage
is 100% so it may be that the issue lays in a software
managed part of mesa and not in the dri driver ...

Bug#425082: blender ought not to crash if GARTSize is too small

2007-05-18 Thread Alban Browaeys
Package: blender
Version: 2.44-1
Severity: wishlist

While rendering if GARTSize is not set to 64 manually in xorg.conf
blender crash if the scene to render is too big. Could it shows a
warning and stop the rendering if so instead of crashing (and loosing
the changes made to the scene) ?

Regards
Alban
