But there is still [reserved] space available ! that will be user space

Bug#381088: bcm43xx-fwcutter: possible ultimate fix for this recurrent bug

2007-01-14 Thread Leonardo
Package: bcm43xx-fwcutter
Version: 1:005-2
Followup-For: Bug #381088

dpkg try to download firmware, without asking anything.
after 437 kb it stop with an error.
since it is very likely that many people have one of the files to retrieve
on their machine (as i do, that use ndiswrapper on a previous version of
kernel) it would be useful:
  a. present a list of url from where to retrieve
  b. allow also to enter a personalize uri
  c. allow also to specify a local file
  d. allow the choice to skip he passage and use fwcutter on the old way.
this would allow to continue the installation even in caso of transfer
  problems.

Bug#354231: linux-image-2.6.15-1-k7: not working DMA and cpufreq on a HP ZV6100

2006-02-24 Thread Leonardo
Package: linux-image-2.6.15-1-k7
Version: 2.6.15-4
Severity: important

The problem affects also 2.6.15-1-486 and the 2.6.8-386 from sarge !!!
if i try to set dma with hdparm -d1 it says:
  HDIO_SET_DMA failed: Operation not permitted
even giving as boot options no success.
the HW however is fine since using a live ubuntu with 2.6.12 i can
issue the cmmand and it is recognized.
I think the problem on cpufreq that says that there is not the device driver
is a son of the same father.

Bug#504604: openoffice.org-calc: current lenny version do not read files made with 3.0

2008-11-05 Thread Leonardo
Package: openoffice.org-calc
Version: 1:2.4.1-11
Severity: grave
Justification: causes non-serious data loss

Actually: it does not even read files made whit 2.3
i prepared an xls file usind a 2.0 version of ooo.
i updated many times, until about 20 days ago was ok.
now it is no longer read.
It does not depend on format (either ods or xls have the same problem)
some cells give error 529.
These are cells that have in the formula:
in R10: IF(T10-Z100;T10-Z10;R$6)
in W10: SUM(R9:R11)

if T10-Z10 evaluate to a non zero value it is ok, if it is 0
(or better T10 is empty, Z0 in my files is always empty) instead
it shows the error.
R$6 cell is actually an empty string.
If i change to a 0 or an empty cell the formula in return in R10: [numeric] 0.
Using previous version or even 3.0 in R10 return an empty string
(so it does not show anything in the display, that was the requirement)
and in W10 just the value of (R9+R11) ignoring the empty string value .
Can you fit this behaviour OR as an alternative make 3.0 immediately available
on lenny ?

Bug#574624: dibbler-client: after removing package with dselect impossible to purge it.

2010-03-19 Thread Leonardo
Package: dibbler-client
Version: 0.7.1-2
Severity: normal

after having deinstalled the package from whitin dselect other packages
complains of finding in /etc/inet.d an unused script.
then i tried to purge completely the unused package but this was the resut:
**
wip:~# dpkg --purge dibbler-client
(Reading database ... 186655 files and directories currently installed.)
Removing dibbler-client ...
Stopping DHCPv6 client: invoke-rc.d: initscript dibbler-client, action
stop failed.
dpkg: error processing dibbler-client (--purge):
subprocess installed pre-removal script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
 dibbler-client
**

of course it cannot stop a process that has not been started, and while this
error
on other packages (say apache2 ...) can be fixed by starting the package
and then letting the script to stop; in this case, having deinstalled it is
not possible

Bug#528173: linux-image-2.6.26-2-686: using xorg do not honour SWCursor (is ok with 2.6.18)

2009-05-11 Thread Leonardo
Package: linux-image-2.6.26-2-686
Version: 2.6.26-15
Severity: normal

Updating to lenny xorg stopped to work.
rienstalling it it changed is autodetection from vesa to openchrome drivers
(this coukd be acceptable, since these are specific for that chipset)
but on the other part it stopped working, since cursor handling is incorrect,
leaving tail and resetting to background image on passing on a non-focused
window.
I added SW cursor but unable to let it work.
booting with 2.6.18 from etch it WORKS OK, both with openchrome and with vesa,
either with or without swcursor.

Bug#742971: Not NM managed interfaces

2014-03-31 Thread Leonardo
In my system I configured a bridge in /etc/network/interfaces so br0
inteface is listed in /run/network/ifstate.

After removing the row br0=br0 from /run/network/ifstate I can start NM
without segmentation fault.

I suppose unmanaged interfaces conflicts with WM.

Regards

Bug#742971: [Pkg-utopia-maintainers] Bug#742971: Not NM managed interfaces

2014-03-31 Thread Leonardo
Hi,

I use this configuration because I like NM to manage my eth0 but I want to
be able to attach qemu vm to bridge, so br0 starts witn no ports and this
can make a difference.

Now I see NM can manage bridges so I wish to do tests.

In short, this is extracted from my /etc/network/interfaces.

# Bridge setup
auto br0
iface br0 inet static
address 10.10.25.1
netmask 255.255.255.0
broadcast 10.10.25.255
hwaddress ether 62:aa:af:24:cf:8f
#bridge_ports mac0
bridge_ports none# if you do not want to bind to any ports
bridge_stp off # disable Spanning Tree Protocol
bridge_waitport 0# no delay before a port becomes available
bridge_fd 0 # no forwarding delay
bridge_ports regex eth* # use a regular expression to define ports
up sysctl -w net.ipv4.conf.br0.proxy_arp=1

Bye

I did test with an unmanaged interface wlan0 in /e/n/i and couldn't
reproduce the bug. I will try to see if the existence of a bridge config
makes a difference. Thanks for the hint.

Bug#982990: btrfs-progs: "btrfs device add" fails adding logical volume (LVM)

2021-02-17 Thread Leonardo
Package: btrfs-progs
Version: 5.10.1-1

Kernel version: 5.10.0-3-amd64
Steps to recreate:
Create two volume groups: i.e. enuoda-blu, enuoda-red
Create two logical volumes: i.e. enuoda-blu/lvol0, enuoda-red/lvol0
Create a btrfs filesystem on one logical volume and mount it:
# mkfs.btrfs /dev/mapper/enuoda--blu-lvol0
# mount /dev/mapper/enuoda--blu-lvol0 /mnt/enuoda

Then try to add the second volume and fails:
# btrfs device add -f /dev/mapper/enuoda-red-lvol0 /mnt/enuoda
ERROR: error adding device 'dm-4': No such file or directory
^^^ HERE IT IS ^^^
No output in dmesg.
(tested on raspberrypi with buster (kernel 5.10.11-v7+
btrfs-progs:5.10-1~bpo10+1), works flawlessly)
Same results if the two logical volumes are in the same volume group.

Instead, directly creating a btrfs filesystem over two logical volumes
works fine:
# mkfs.btrfs -f /dev/mapper/enuoda--blu-lvol0 /dev/mapper/enuoda--red-lvol0
btrfs-progs v5.10.1
See http://btrfs.wiki.kernel.org for more information.

WTF? What do you want to say with that? 1.1.4 is the latest upstream
version and is in experimental (although the langpacks are not
 installable at the moment)
2.0 is *not* released and 1.9.x is beta-quality stuff which in some
aspects is broken. But we are working on debs of it...
In some aspect ... yes, but has more function than 1.1.4 and i have not
yet found any broken part that worked on 1.1.4 and not in 1.9.=95.
On the other part i have a lot of files that 1.1.3 does not open correctly
and a few ones that not even 1.1.4 open yet.
I do not say that you must put 1.9 in stable, but putting on experimental,
possibly with a caveat would be ok.
Otherwise create a new package, openoffice.org2 (or openoffice2.org ?)
keeping in experimental, but regularly updated, so those that want to have
it in their system, at their risk, can take advantage from a standard
upgrade path via apt.

 Closing this bogus bug.
not sure is a real bug but absolutely not a bogus need !

Bug#272729: Diff iptables manpage X iptables --help

2005-11-01 Thread Leonardo Serra
Package: iptables
Version: 1.3.3-2
Followup-For: Bug #272729

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Manpage of Iptables show
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
recent
Allows you to dynamically create a list of IP addresses and then
match against that list in a few different ways.

For example, you can create a ‘badguy’ list out of people
attempting to connect to port 139 on your firewall and
then DROP all future packets from them without considering them.

   --name name
Specify the list to use for the commands. If no name is
given then ’DEFAULT’ will be used.

   [!] --set
This will add the source address of the packet to the
list. If the source address is already in the list,
this will update the existing entry. This will always
return success (or failure if ‘!’ is passed in).

   [!] --rcheck
Check if the source address of the packet is currently in
the list.

   [!] --update
Like --rcheck, except it will update the last seen
timestamp if it matches.

   [!] --remove
Check if the source address of the packet is currently
in the list and if so that address will be removed
from the list and the rule will return true. If the
address is not found, false is returned.

   [!] --seconds seconds
This option must be used in conjunction with one of
- --rcheck or --update. When used, this will narrow the
match to only happen when the address is in the list and
was seen within the last given number of seconds.

   [!] --hitcount hits
This option must be used in conjunction with one of
- --rcheck or --update. When used, this will narrow the
match to only happen when the address is in the list and
packets had been received greater than or equal to
the given value. This option may be used along with
- --seconds to create an even narrower match requiring a
certain number of hits within a specific time frame.

- --rttl This option must be used in conjunction with one of --rcheck or
- --update. When used, this will narrow the
match to only happen when the address is in the list and
the TTL of the current packet matches that of the
packet which hit the --set rule. This may be useful if
you have problems with people faking their source
address in order to DoS you via this module by disallowing
others access to your site by sending bogus
  packets to you.

   Examples:

  # iptables -A FORWARD -m recent --name badguy --rcheck
  # --seconds 60 -j DROP

  # iptables -A FORWARD -p tcp -i eth0 --dport 139 -m recent
  # --name badguy --set -j DROP

   Official website (http://snowman.net/projects/ipt_recent/) also
has some examples of usage.

/proc/net/ipt_recent/* are the current lists of addresses and
information about each entry of each list.

Each file in /proc/net/ipt_recent/ can be read from to see
the current list or written two using the following
   commands to modify the list:

   echo xx.xx.xx.xx /proc/net/ipt_recent/DEFAULT
to Add to the DEFAULT list

   echo -xx.xx.xx.xx /proc/net/ipt_recent/DEFAULT
to Remove from the DEFAULT list

   echo clear /proc/net/ipt_recent/DEFAULT
  to empty the DEFAULT list.

The module itself accepts parameters, defaults shown:

   ip_list_tot=100
Number of addresses remembered per table

   ip_pkt_list_tot=20
Number of packets per address remembered

   ip_list_hash_size=0
Hash table size. 0 means to calculate it based on
ip_list_tot, default: 512

   ip_list_perms=0644
  Permissions for /proc/net/ipt_recent/* files

   debug=0
Set to 1 to get lots of debugging info
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

# iptables -m recent --help
show this:

Hello.

I've always used CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDE_SATA (support of older SATA

(mother board is an Intel D865PERL[K]); even standard Debian kernel as
linux-image-2.6.15-1-686-smp (and older) is/was slow.

With kernel 2.6.15 CONFIG_SCSI_ATA_PIIX is at the same time slower but I
can't use CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDE_SATA because I get very often:

Bug#502594: exaile: no daap support: daap plugin not showing up in plugin manager

2008-10-18 Thread Leonardo Canducci
Package: exaile
Version: 0.2.11.1+debian-2
Severity: normal

*** exaile
Subject: exaile: no daap support: daap plugin not showing up in plugin manager
Package: exaile
Version: 0.2.11.1+debian-2
Severity: normal

I understand why exile package in debian is different from other distribution:
shipping with standard plugins and not allowing plugin download for security
reasons.
Anyway daap-plugin is included in /usr/lib/exaile/plugins but it's not showing
up in plugin manager so I cannot enable it and browse my mt-daap served music
library as I would with rhythmbox.
I read somewhere on the web that I should install python-avahi and python-daap
for this plugin to work so I installed these packages but daap-plugin doesn't
show up as well. Are these packages needed for this plugin to work? If so
shouldn't they be recommended at least?

Since I'm and xfce user and I don't like to install all that gnome stuff
rhythmbox depends on I'd really like daap integration to work in exaile.

Thanks.
Leonardo

Bug#463876: gcc-4.1: do not compile old programs due not setting HAS_STRERROR variable

2008-02-03 Thread Leonardo Boselli
Package: gcc-4.1
Version: 4.1.1-21
Severity: minor

I have an old (1999) program, i recompiled it for 64 bit, but gave strange
errors messages. i traced to the fact that the gcc i have now do not set the
HAS_STRERROR variable so the compiler included a not_so_up_to_date file.
Is this a feature or a bug ?

Bug#464578: openbsd-inetd: does not alwais honour pop and pop3 names in inetd.conf

2008-02-07 Thread Leonardo Boselli
Package: openbsd-inetd
Version: 0.20050402-6
Severity: normal

On two different machines, one with i386 and another with the amd64 flavour
the same problem: pop3 and pop3s in inetd.conf are not always recognided as
110 and 995, so the system does not listen to them.
The problem is quite erratic: usually it does not work, but if i kill -HUP
three times in a row the daemon il start correctly.
it does not look as a caching problem since if i start with a filecontaing
110 then change to pop3 and HUP inetd the service is not accessible, if i
change back to 110 it is, bach to pop3 not ..
but if then i kill -HUP three times in a row it works ok.
i have tried also on reboot and it seem to work most of the times

Bug#456171: locale issue

2007-12-21 Thread Leonardo Canducci
This bug should be somewhat related to locale settings.
I confirm the bug. I'm running sid with italian locale
(LANG=it_IT.UTF-8) and see the same error. If I type:
LANG=C xchat-gnome
xchat-gnome starts in english with no errors.
this happened before with previous versions and has been fixed. ubuntu
gutsy is running the same version (0.18). It did exibit the same error
but eventually it was fixed.
I have no knowledge to fix it, so let's wait and see.
Greetings,
Leonardo

relative to a single version of the programs included [that would remain
in main/docs] .
This section, similarly to non-free could be on not be present on the CD
distributions, or better: it could contain either the full package or just
the downloader script, accorting the option chosen by the producer of CD

space on the media, one [or possibly even a smart cd imager script] could
choose the documents to include to fit that space, leaving for the others
just the downloader.
Putting this in a non-main section would also avoid the stable problem,
allowing to add updated version of the document at any time, without
waiting for the next offical release ...

No, wget itself is not a big burdle.
It is just that:
- wget is not in base packages, neither on fundamental, so you could end
an install having only lynx or links, that are not exactly the easier
thing to use for download by a novice; Also you have to know the address

- selecting a packages called manuale per tutti and having it select
the installer script (that could depend on wget or other program, so
installing also that one) is definitely less error-prone.
- of course: i am talking of putting in deb just the downloadr/installer,
not the actual fat (althought nutrient) files !
- last option [not intrisicly bad]: add just a AppuntiLinux.miniHOWTO with
the description on how to retrieve the full beast ! This would also ahev
the small advantage that any one installing the howtos would know about
it.

Bug#305537: kernel-source-2.6.11: Reset to TCP connections

2005-04-20 Thread Leonardo Macchia
Package: kernel-source-2.6.11
Version: 2.6.11-3
Severity: normal

Hello.

I see that in last 2.6 kernels TCP connections are sometimes resetted:
it seems that in some situation (not yet known to me) a correct TCP
packet goes into invalid state and kernel sends back a tcp-reset and
closes connection.

It is very difficult to reproduce the situation, however now I find a
situation that happens regularly to me: on a kernel 2.6 that SNATs a
Windows XP machine that is ftp-ing (non-passive mode) to a Microsoft FTP
Server 3.0.

I log every packet and I see that in a random moment during file
transfer (of a 15 MB file) a packet passes in INPUT table insted (like
all others) FORWARD table.
The packet in INPUT table is classified as INVALID (I mean that it
matches a rule -m state --state INVALID)... if I ignore those packets
(-m stat --state INVALID -j DROP) than that kind of trouble doesn't
happens.

Can it be a problem related to conntrack modules? A similar problem
seems to happens also in non-NATted connections.
Anything I can do to have a more debug of this situation?

Thank you, Leonardo Macchia.

Bug#306117: dnsmasq not usable with resolvconf and pppd 'usepeerdns' option

2005-04-24 Thread Leonardo Canducci
Package: dnsmasq
Version: 2.22-1
Severity: important

I'm using dnsmasq with resolvconf and pppoe with 'usepeerdns' option set
for pppd.
At boot time since dnsmasq is started before pppd gets DNS from ISP
('usepeerdns' option) when it reads /var/run/dnsmasq/resolv.conf the
file is empty. That way dnsmasq is not usable at all nor it is updated
when, just a few seconds later, pppd gets its DNS servers from ISP and
resolvconf appends them to /var/run/dnsmasq/resolv.conf.
Restarting dnsmasq fixes the problem, but documentation suggests that
kind of configuration should work 'out of the box'.

Bye

a hit of cpufreqd.

It's quite hard to track what is consuming more CPU, however in default
configuration it's unusable in my laptop, it's too CPU-comsuming...

I will try to change default config to check what's really
CPU-consuming...

Yes, checking /proc/acpi/battery seems the problem. Maybe it's a problem
of the current running kernel... I'm quite sure that this problem is
quite new... I will check with older kernels.

I set a global poll_interval=8 without nanosleep (my patch) in
cmdline cycle... and the overall result is quite the same.

Maybe I will configure cpufreqd to only check for AC-on or AC-off to
change CPU frequency... it's the only feature I really need at the
moment...

Thanks, Leonardo.

I found what is the problem: CONFIG_ACPI_DEBUG=y in 2.6.11 (but not in

battery.

time cat /proc/acpi/battery/*/*

The precision is one second, so that shouldn't be the problem. OTOH, the
code is such that if the time starts in the future, then warps backward,
then no checks will every be made until the time gets back to the first
 value.

Instead of restarting dnsmasq, can you do

 touch /var/run/dnsmasq/resolv.conf

and see if that gets dnsmasq to re-read it? Note that dnsmasq will not
check and re-read the file until it sees a DNS query, so you'lll have to
 do something like

 touch /var/run/dnsmasq/resolv.conf
 dig mit.edu

 to see test this.
since I'm using resolvconf I did:
#touch /var/run/dnsmasq/resolv.conf
$dig mit.edu

dnsmasq re-read the file and is now working.

this morning:
Apr 28 07:29:44 cervellone dnsmasq[3944]: reading /var/run/dnsmasq/resolv.conf
Apr 28 07:29:59 cervellone pppd[3135]: primary DNS address 80.17.209.xxx
Apr 28 07:30:00 cervellone ntpdate[4828]: step time server 82.219.3.xxx offset
-3.932196 sec

so pppd gets dns servers 15 seconds after the first dnsmasq check. then
ntpdate (ppp/ip-up.d script) adjusts time but it's a 3 seconds only shift.
/var/run/dnsmasq/resolv.conf should be newer (15-3=12 seconds newer) than
the first one with no entries.

I still can't get why dnsmasq is not checking the file since it's the
first entry in /etc/resolv.conf and there's plenty of dns queries.

thanks.

Bug#413377: linux-image-2.6.18: on upgrade get grub priority even if not previously selected

After upgrade from 2.6.18-3 to 2.6.18-4 grub select this new kernel for boot,
even if previously default was set to a non-linux partition.
I noticed the problem also on another installation.
It wopuld be nice that, if the default kernel is not the one that is
upgraded, it would remain as a default.
(so, if my default is the fifth on the list, adding a new one should keep
that one as the default, not the freshly installed one. the automatic update
of grub should occour only if the new one is an update for the one that is
 the current default)

having as current directory /home/luca
 giving the command

has removed entire /home/luf directory .

i tried again and found that even mkdir has a similar behaviour:

mkdir ~dirname does not create ./~dirname but instead ../dirname

this only ON this computer, on other 3 with the same release behaviour is
correct.

Should we close this bug?

You could, also if i would prefer that the configurator would test if a
lpd is runnuing and in that case propose a different default.
It would be consistent with the behaviour of other packages.

Still doesn't work, but I get this warning:

Consider that when I compile kernel and modules together (with
kernel_image modules_image for example), I also get the problem I
report... so the problem should not be on this run of modules_image
after making kernel.

If you have more advice, let me know, I can also recompile everything
and use make prepare at the moment you tell me.

Thank you, Leonardo.

What I usually do (and has been worked for years and for every

- unpack kernel source (at this moment I'm using the source from
  linux-source-2.6.12_2.6.12-6_all.deb)
- unpack every file in /usr/src that I'd like to compile, it extracts in

- use (from directory /usr/src/linux-2.6.12) something like:
make-kpkg --revision 06 --append-to-version -univac --uc --us --config
