What happens if you run with --daemon=no --verbose=yes ?

Okay, I have it responding to --daemon=no --verbose=yes.

Attached is the log that resulted.

 *** [DIE] hald_runner.c:runner_died():69 : Runner died

Uhm, right the runner dies.. that's bad.. Could you do the following:

$ echo '#!/bin/sh\n /usr/bin/strace /usr/lib/hal/hald-runner\n'
/tmp/hald-runner
$ chmod a+x /tmp/hald-runner
$ PATH=/tmp:$PATH hald --daemon=no --verbose=no

This will cause the hald to attach a strace to the hald-runner so we can get
somewhat more debug info.

An upstream patch is now available to refuse CIDR notation in ipv6
addresses. It seems ok to me to manage the issue.
Would you please confirm that, if you are able to patch yourself the package?
Else i'll go straight with -7 with that.

Bug#364454: ...at least a bug in firefox

2006-05-09 Thread Guido Guenther
Hi,
If ff doesn't detect the verion of extensions correctly it's a least a
bug in the browser itself. Reinstalling packages to make things work
again is isn't a very sensible update path. If firefox is at fault here
we should at least reassign the bug there.
Cheers,

Ping dear build-common-hackers: does someone has enough time to review

Bug#366512: ted: Fails to display file

2006-05-09 Thread Neil Roeth
Package: ted
Version: 2.17-1

Starting Ted like so:

---BeginMessage---
Package: xbattbar
Version: 1.4.2-3
Severity: serious

Hello,

This is a serious bug filed against your package because it
build-depends on xlibs-dev, which as announced in [1] a while ago, is
no longer available in sid. This makes your package fail to build from
  source.

[1] http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/11/msg00022.html

To fix this bug, you need to update your build-dependencies and
substitute xlibs-dev for the list of individual X development
libraries that your package needs to be built. You can find detailed
information about how to do that in the DependsXlibsDev wiki page [2].

[2] http://wiki.debian.org/DependsXlibsDev

As indicated by the Release Team [3], the full transition from XFree86
to Xorg is a release blocker for Etch, which means that Etch will not
be released until this bug is fixed (or your package removed from
testing). So, please, try to fix in a timely manner.

[3] http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/10/msg4.html

The number of affected packages by the xlibs-dev transition is huge,
so if you feel like helping with patches or uploads, feel free to
follow the instructions contained in the wiki page above. A list of
affected packages can be found here [4].

[4] http://people.debian.org/~adeodato/release-usertag/transition-xlibs-dev

Finally, if there's a strong reason for which your package should not
be NMUed, please note so in this bug report. Prospective NMUers will
read your reasoning, and will decide if it's strong enough to delay
  their upload.

  Thanks for your collaboration!

Hi,

Would you please confirm that, if you are able to patch yourself the package?
Else i'll go straight with -7 with that.

Sorry but I won't be able to test this patch before this week-end.

Refusing IPv6 subnets doesn't qualify as a fix for this issue IMHO,
but at least it'll fix the hole in the meantime. I wonder how this
code can end up in a stable release.

Do you use cslatex, did you find it during a license auditing, or just
by chance?

In the first two cases I'd like to request your help. I wouldn't want
to just drop that file without trying to contact upstream and ask for a
relicensing. Therefore a user who actually speaks czech or slovak would
be helpful.

In the second case, welcome in the club. I'm doing a license auditing
on teTeX myself currently, and I'd very much appreciate any information
about files you have already checked.

/me remembers seeing a similar bugreport and that was going to be fixed on

It isn't fixed yet. Bugs are still open against libgdchart-gd2 and
d-shlibs. Should the bug on d-shlibs be moved to libgd2?

Yes, this bug should be merged with 350704, and reassigned accordingly.

Bug#366526: [mostly-dummy-RC] Don't migrate; changes planned

2006-05-09 Thread Elrond
Package: shishi
Version: 0.0.25-1
Severity: serious

Hi,

I file this bug mostly to stop shishi from migrating from
unstable to testing, because:

We (shishi debian team) consider/plan
1) Renaming shishid to shishi-kdc
2) Adding pam_shishi

As (1) has a bigger impact, if shishi were in testing, we
decided: If we want to do it, it should be done before any
migration to testing.

That said, (1) requires manual approval by the ftp masters.
Which is somewhat annoying to them for only a rename.

(2) on the other hand requires that too. So the idea is to
combine both to annoy the ftp-masters only once.

This bug also is here to give
- us the time to decide on (1) and (2)
- us the time to do (1) correctly
- us the time to do (2)
- debian users a very slight chance of knowing, that a
  rename might happen

Interesting, especially since README-cspsfont which is the accompanying

On CTAN there is CTAN:macros/cstex/license.eng which also mentiones GPL
for cspsfonts. This does require further investigation, though. The tar
ball CTAN:macros/cstex/base/cspsfonts.tar.gz does not contain the source
file cspsfont.doc.

It does contain some of the font metrics that Frank and I were talking
about in another thread. :-)

And this source file doesn't seem to be available anywhere (no CTAN
hits, not in CTAN's cspsfonts.tar.gz, and no google hits).

Well, the cslatex version in teTeX 3.0 seems to quite outdated
anyway. It tells to be released in 1995, meanwhile there is an
upstream version from 2005 and a cspsfonts version from 1999. Maybe
the software was relicensed and the author just forgot to remove the
oudated license information (see #327741).

I suggest to contact upstream regarding this.

Sorry but I won't be able to test this patch before this week-end.

Refusing IPv6 subnets doesn't qualify as a fix for this issue IMHO,

code can end up in a stable release.

I'm not an IPv6 expert but AFAIK IPv4 CIDR notation is simply a non

This is wrong because a) it is missing a dependency on inetd, b) you
shouldn't be calling the init.d script directly anyway (see policy
9.3.3.2), and c) what happens if xinetd or some other inetd
implementation is installed instead of inetd?

the missing dependency is upon netbase. I've added it, and NMU-ed the
package in DELAYED/2 considering the fact that the fix for that bug was
trivial.

I also updated debian/copyright to contain more complete informations,
and a missing copyright.

Note that calling /etc/init.d/inetd directly is a violation of the
policy. Changed that to use invoke-rc.d

find it in my private archive.

Moreover, I have just looked at the CSTeX license and it says that it is
GPL. It might be useful to change the license of these files. I created
the files so that they can be freely used and included in TeX

Debian? If this license statement were correct, they would have to be

also from CTAN - if distribution is not allowed, it's not allowed.

However, I'm confident this is not intended, and the upstream authors

Bug#362482: evolution: hangs reading Groupwise calendar

2006-05-09 Thread Scott Anderson
--- Øystein Gisnås [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

If the bug is in the groupwise code, that wouldn't surprise me, because
not very many people use groupwise, and the code seems a bit out of
shape nowadays. Can you say something about your groupwise installation?
For example, do you know the server version? Does it only happen when
you enter calendar view? Can you avoid it by opening calendar view at a
 different date?

My groupwise installation is version 7.0.1 running on Windows NT (at least
that's what I glean
from evolution's logfile.) The crash originally only occurred when entering
calendar view, but
now I can enter calendar view and things seem okay for a while. I have not

new appointments, etc, lately.

But E-D-S still crashes sometime during the day. I caught the error message

Bug#366505: [tex-live] Source and Copyright question concerning cspsfonts

I have found my private copy of cspsfont.doc and now I understand why it

for testing and planned to provide the documentation later and forgot to
do it. I know that some bugs were fixed in the generated files later so
distribution of my ancient cspsfont.doc will not be a good idea. I will do

There are several solutions: get the other authors to agree to release
the generated files under a different license. Reimport the changed
edited files into the source file and distribute that (depends on the
agreement of the editor of the changed files, but considering that he
has been in violation of the license, this should probably be easy to
assure), Czech or not. Add a notice that translations would be very
much appreciated.

Stuff like that.

It is a long time since I made these files and the whole package is now
maintained by others. However, I managed to find other files. As a matter
of fact, cspsfont.doc does not contain any license at all. I have GPL
version 2, June 1991 in the same directory. Probably I chose it because
authors of other parts of CSTeX used it. The installation script,
cspsfont.ins, does not contain any license either. Thus the message is the
default from docstrip because I did not redefine it.

As far as translation is concern, I do not think that it would be
appreciated. I liked the tool 11 years ago when I created because
development was easier for me than studying fontinst. I am afraid that
translation of this obsolete tool is just waisting time and the only
meaningful solution is to change the copyright of generated files.

 Stuff like that.

Bug#365464: proftpd: net ACLs are buggy

2006-05-09 Thread Florian Weimer
* Francesco Paolo Lovergine:

Refusing IPv6 subnets doesn't qualify as a fix for this issue IMHO,
but at least it'll fix the hole in the meantime. I wonder how this
code can end up in a stable release.

I'm not an IPv6 expert but AFAIK IPv4 CIDR notation is simply a non
 sense in 128bit context...

According to my notes (I'm offline at the moment), RFC 3513 specifies
a syntax for IPv6 prefixes. The syntax is similar to IPv4 prefixes:

  0123:4567:89ab:cdef:0123:4567:89ab:cde0/124

See the RFC for full details.

This is not fixable until libtasn = 0.3.1 is uploaded, which will
need to go through the NEW queue as the soname has changed.

Not necessarily. gnutls13 does build in the absence of libtasn-dev, it just
builds *differently* depending on whether libtasn1-3 is available: it uses
 its bundled tasn instead.

Eh. The whole bug report by Bastian basically just says: It does not
link against a externelly packages version of libtasn but statically
against the included one. And this,

Actually, the title of the bug report is rebuild loses dep against
libtasn1, which is very much about whether the build-dependencies are
 correct.

Hello,
it depends on whether you read it as is not linked against external
libtasn anymore or as depending on installed version of
libtasn1-2-dev will be linked against external version or internal
version.

I read it in the former interpretation, which is only fixable by
upoading libtasn1-3.

As long as there is no libtasn1-3 in the archive,
this should be ok (not great, but ok) -- so a reasonable solution might be
to drop the build-dependency on libtasn1-2-dev and instead build-conflict
with any libtasn dev packages that it could accidentally build against.
Then when there's a -dev package for libtasn1-3, it should be re-added as a
 build-dependency.

... would not change what Bastian reported in *any* way.

Removing the libtasn1-2 build-dependecy fixes the whishlist bug
lists pacages i build-depends that it does not use at all. Adding a
build-conflict against libtasn1-2-dev seems to be useless

It's not useless. The libtasn1-2-dev 0.3 that was briefly in the archive is
what the gnutls13 packages on i386 and s390 got built against. While this
package will no longer be found on any of the buildds, in the interest of
preventing accidental misbuilds on developer systems the build-conflict
 ought to be added.

I see. I completely agree that gnutls13 should prevent building
against this broken version.

Limiting the build-conflict to the specific broken version of libtasn1-2-dev
should be fine, if you want to take that approach.

It seems to be cleaner to me.

[...]
As noted above I fail to see much of the necessity of the changes you
propose and none of them changes gnutls13 is linked statically
against libtasn. - If you consider gnutls13 is linked statically to
not be grave just downgrade this bug.

Wrong build-dependencies/build-conflicts are a serious bug.
[...]
Only if they can cause breakage imho, as you've shown above breakage
is possible. I missed that (corner case), thanks.

Ahh. This isn't (or may not be) the same problem. It's not failing
in the test suite, but rather when trying to build the docs.

Based on a recent discussion on guile-devel, I have a suspicion about
what might be causing the trouble. I'll try to look in to it this

Your package no longer builds in unstable because the build-dependency
on libdvdread3-dev cannot be fulfiled. the libdvdread package dropped
the libdvdread3-dev package (it's just libdvdread-dev now). Even
though libdvdread-dev provides libdvdread3-dev, this won't fulfil your
build-dependency since you have a versioned build dependency on
libdvdread3-dev and provides don't support versions.

Bug#327564: Bug #327564: [patch] can't start aria

2006-05-09 Thread Bill Allombert
tags 327564 patch
thanks

Hello Jung-hoon, Chris and Rene,

The attached patch seems to fix aria on 64bit plateform.
At least I can download a file with aria now on amd64.
This patch also fix most gcc warning on amd64.

This patch replace use of 'unsigned int' where string::size_type would be
expected (there are a lot of them).

The problem was that string::size_type is a 64bit unsigned type and
(string::size_type) -1 was used as a marker and was lost whe converting
to 32 bit unsigned.

There are still some poor usage of 'int' where a 64bit type would be
better, but they do not seem to affect normal operations (maybe only if
one try to download files =4B).

(Rene, please add a file debian/README.sources explaining how to use the
build system to get the patched sources).

Cheers,

Bug#366562: FTBFS: unmet build-dependency libdvdread3-dev

2006-05-09 Thread Martin Michlmayr
Package: drip
Version: 0.8.3.2+0.9.0-rc3-7
Severity: serious

Your package no longer builds in unstable because the build-dependency
on libdvdread3-dev cannot be fulfiled. the libdvdread package dropped
the libdvdread3-dev package (it's just libdvdread-dev now). Even
though libdvdread-dev provides libdvdread3-dev, this won't fulfil your
build-dependency since you have a versioned build dependency on
libdvdread3-dev and provides don't support versions.

Bug#351693: status of #351693?

Rob Browning [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes:

Thomas Bushnell BSG [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes:

The ia64 buildd admin clearly has just not processed the failing log.

Ahh. This isn't (or may not be) the same problem. It's not failing
in the test suite, but rather when trying to build the docs.

I don't know what you're talking about. At the end of that page is
the link to the ia64 build of version 1.6.7-3. Clicking on that link
brings you to the failing build from April 29, 2006, at the following
URL:
http://buildd.debian.org/fetch.php?pkg=guile-1.6ver=1.6.7-3arch=ia64stamp=1146285308file=logas=raw

At the end of that log, is the following error, which generates the
failure exit status:

make[3]: Entering directory `/build/buildd/guile-1.6-1.6.7'
Testing /build/buildd/guile-1.6-1.6.7/pre-inst-guile ...
with GUILE_LOAD_PATH=/build/buildd/guile-1.6-1.6.7/test-suite
ERROR: In procedure variable-set-name-hint!:
ERROR: Wrong type argument in position ~A (expecting ~A): ~S
FAIL: check-guile
===
1 of 1 tests failed
===
make[3]: *** [check-TESTS] Error 1
make[3]: Leaving directory `/build/buildd/guile-1.6-1.6.7'

This looks for all the world like a failure in the test suite, and the
identical one in the original bug report. I see no indication of a
failure in building docs.

Thomas

It's a known upstream bug caused by a faulty optimization. It will be reverted

this looks like upstream : http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=126350

next branch pull (= rev 535017) will fix that.

Bug#363294: gnutls13 - rebuild looses dep against libtasn1

2006-05-09 Thread Andreas Metzler
tags 363294 patch
thanks

attached trivial patch prevents gnutls13 linking against the broken
libtasn upload. I have tested this. The patch is intentionally minimal,
i.e. it does not remove libgnutls-dev's dependency on libtasn1.2-dev, as
some (broken) pakages might rely on libgnutls-dev pulling in libtasn
headers.

I might NMU (but not today), unless somebody else is faster.

As far as I could see, this is not fixed in sarge:

Name: CVE-2006-2120
URL: http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2006-2120
http://bugzilla.remotesensing.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1065

The TIFFToRGB function in libtiff before 3.8.1 allows remote attackers
to cause a denial of service (crash) via a crafted TIFF image with
Yr/Yg/Yb values that exceed the YCR/YCG/YCB values, which triggers an
out-of-bounds read.

The function name is actually TIFFXYZToRGB. I am sorry that I am too
late for DSA 1054.

Cheers,
Stefan

Interesting, especially since README-cspsfont which is the accompanying

Yes, modulo some nasty charset encoding issues in your original mail, and
some niggling doubts about whether bits of what I'm reading are actually
Slovak or if my Czech is just really really bad, this looks like a
translation of a pretty standard GPL disclaimer.

In particular, the first sentence says (loosely back-translated) this
package is free software. Does package unambiguously include the
ntimes.sty file in question? If so, I would suggest downgrading this bug
report while sorting out which of the two license statements is the correct
and current one, since there is likely no bug here at all.

* Francesco Paolo Lovergine:

According to my notes (I'm offline at the moment), RFC 3513 specifies
a syntax for IPv6 prefixes. The syntax is similar to IPv4 prefixes:

   0123:4567:89ab:cdef:0123:4567:89ab:cde0/124

Which is completely different from the ipv4 cidr indeed.

Huh? It's a IPv6 address, followed by a slash, followed by the number
of significant bits in decimal. Just like IPv4.

edit does not. Since I cannot even see the document I am trying to
edit, much less edit it, I consider that unuseable.

Well, that sounds like a reasonable asssessment. Unfortunately, I
cannot reproduce your problem here. I'll need more information to get
to the bottom of this.

The following messages appear in the xterm from which I started Ted:

 appFont.c(812) aff-affFontFamilyName=Helvetica afe-afeXfontFamilies=0x0
[...]

Hmm, it seems to be complaining that it can't find anything to use as
a Helvetica font for that document. What happens if you do:

  xlsfont | grep -i helvetica

Note that providing appropriate fonts is up to you. Debian packages
cannot depend on particular fonts, because your Xserver and/or your
font server may be located on different machines. Furthermore, there
is no way for Ted to know which fonts might be required, because those
are defined by the documents. Hence, as I say, providing the fonts
you need is up to you. However, if this is the problem, then I do
think that Ted could provide a more helpful error message!

If access to fonts is not the problem, then I'm really not sure what
to think. In any case, please send me the output of the command
above. That should at least give me a starting point.

because the second address is a mixed ipv4-in-ipv6 spec, but must

What exactly do you want me to do? I released a new version recently,
and as far as I can tell there's no consensus on whether the suggested
fixes actually work. Plus, the upstream sources don't seem to be
generally accessible now, so it's hard to tell what's going on there.

So I continue to wait for something useful to happen.

Plus, I've been teaching a new class this term and consequently have
very little time. But the term's almost over.

Do you have any specific suggestion as to what should happen?

Aptitude is not my main package tool, so other people probably can
answer this better than me, but try this. In aptitude, search for broken
packages by starting a search (press /) then use the search string ~b
 for broken packages.

This may be a clue to my crash problem. Aptitude (GUI mode, I usually just use
the command line),
shows evolution-plugins with broken dependencies.

  * evolution-plugins depends on libgnutls13 (= 1.3.5)
  * evolution-plugins depends on libnotify1

The egroupwise libraries also depend on libgnutls13, and hence are broken.

I also found something a little odd.

libsoup2.2-8 depends on libgnutls12
libegroupwise1.2-9 depends on libsoup2.2-8 and libgnutls13

Is libsoup2.2-8 in transitition to depend on libgnutls13? Loic is an evolution

That's all I can find for now.

So far so good, but unless I can duplicate the problem, or someone sends me

Hmm, ok, that looks like a place I can investigate further. I
wouldn't think that would affect it, but Ted does do some funny things
with fonts.

Bug#365464: proftpd: net ACLs are buggy

2006-05-09 Thread Julien BLACHE
Francesco Paolo Lovergine [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

Hi,

Huh? It's a IPv6 address, followed by a slash, followed by the number
of significant bits in decimal. Just like IPv4.

Sorry, that's not what I meant.

 :::192.168.0.0/124 is correct, :::192.168.0.0/24 not.
because the second address is a mixed ipv4-in-ipv6 spec, but must
specify the whole 128 bit range, not the ipv4 form.

Ah, ok, now it makes sense to reject that, indeed. As long as regular
IPv4 CIDR is supported :)

Thanks,

JB.

The major font-related thing I did recently was switching to the new X11R7
scheme where all fonts are in /usr/share/fonts/X11 rather than
 /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts.

Is there any chance that bug #365403 is relevant to this case?

Cheers,

Bug#350088: Forcibly orphaning mhash?

2006-05-09 Thread Thomas Bushnell BSG
Nathanael Nerode [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes:

As discussed in this bug, mhash's maintainer appears to be MIA or
 out to lunch.

Is it OK if we forcibly orphan the package now?

There is no procedure for forcible orphaning the package.

If you have a fix for the bug (the bug log seems to suggest that
nobody has a patch at the moment), then please add it to the log;
since the bug is severity grave, you can certainly then do a proper
NMU.

We do not forcibly orphan anything; that's a silly procedure, because
all it can do is change a package with a less-than-ideal maintainer
into a package with none at all. There is a procedure for hijacking,
but this is hardly a case. It's not like a clearly winning patch is
being ignored.

Thomas
