Bug#364454: ...at least a bug in firefox
Hi, If ff doesn't detect the verion of extensions correctly it's a least a bug in the browser itself. Reinstalling packages to make things work again is isn't a very sensible update path. Strange, i may have misunderstood. Whatever, this was a very bad breakage and deserved RC. If not, given the severity of the bug and the big problems it implies in EVERY debian package that ships binaries AND a lib in separate packages, I intend to NMU it. I'm too late for review, sorry. Bug#346759: marked as done (xbattbar: FTBFS: build-depends on removed xlibs-dev)
Your message dated Tue, 9 May 2006 13:45:30 +0200 with message-id [EMAIL PROTECTED] and subject line Bug#346759: Patch for NMU xbattbar has caused the attached Bug report to be marked as done. This means that you claim that the problem has been dealt with. If this is not the case it is now your responsibility to reopen the Bug report if necessary, and/or fix the problem forthwith. (NB: If you are a system administrator and have no idea what I am talking about this indicates a serious mail system misconfiguration somewhere. Please contact me immediately.) Debian bug tracking system administrator (administrator, Debian Bugs database) ---BeginMessage--- Package: xbattbar Version: 1.4.2-3 Severity: serious Hello, This is a serious bug filed against your package because it build-depends on xlibs-dev, which as announced in [1] a while ago, is no longer available in sid. This makes your package fail to build from source. [1] http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/11/msg00022.html To fix this bug, you need to update your build-dependencies and substitute xlibs-dev for the list of individual X development libraries that your package needs to be built. You can find detailed information about how to do that in the DependsXlibsDev wiki page [2]. [2] http://wiki.debian.org/DependsXlibsDev As indicated by the Release Team [3], the full transition from XFree86 to Xorg is a release blocker for Etch, which means that Etch will not be released until this bug is fixed (or your package removed from testing). So, please, try to fix in a timely manner. [3] http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/10/msg4.html The number of affected packages by the xlibs-dev transition is huge, so if you feel like helping with patches or uploads, feel free to follow the instructions contained in the wiki page above. A list of affected packages can be found here [4]. [4] http://people.debian.org/~adeodato/release-usertag/transition-xlibs-dev Finally, if there's a strong reason for which your package should not be NMUed, please note so in this bug report. Prospective NMUers will read your reasoning, and will decide if it's strong enough to delay their upload. Bug#366526: [mostly-dummy-RC] Don't migrate; changes planned
Package: shishi Version: 0.0.25-1 Severity: serious Hi, I file this bug mostly to stop shishi from migrating from unstable to testing, because: We (shishi debian team) consider/plan 1) Renaming shishid to shishi-kdc 2) Adding pam_shishi As (1) has a bigger impact, if shishi were in testing, we decided: If we want to do it, it should be done before any migration to testing. That said, (1) requires manual approval by the ftp masters. Which is somewhat annoying to them for only a rename. (2) on the other hand requires that too. So the idea is to combine both to annoy the ftp-masters only once. This bug also is here to give - us the time to decide on (1) and (2) - us the time to do (1) correctly - us the time to do (2) - debian users a very slight chance of knowing, that a rename might happen Elrond -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#366505: [tex-live] Source and Copyright question concerning cspsfonts

While analyzing the license/source situation of teTeX and TeX live for Debian, we found that the following files: ntimes.sty nhelvet.sty cspsfont.{il2,tex,xl2} These files were created by me. I took a few words from LaTeX license and did not care much about it. File cspsfont.doc contains documentation and my intention was to force everyone to install the package himself/herself by running docstrip. It now seems not practical but I am sort of disapointed that the file disappeared from the doc directory. I hope I find it in my private archive. Add a notice that translations would be very much appreciated. It is a long time since I made these files and the whole package is now maintained by others. However, I managed to find other files. As a matter of fact, cspsfont.doc does not contain any license at all. I have GPL version 2, June 1991 in the same directory. Probably I chose it because authors of other parts of CSTeX used it. The installation script, cspsfont.ins, does not contain any license either. Thus the message is the default from docstrip because I did not redefine it. As far as translation is concern, I do not think that it would be appreciated. I liked the tool 11 years ago when I created because development was easier for me than studying fontinst. I am afraid that translation of this obsolete tool is just waisting time and the only meaningful solution is to change the copyright of generated files. [...] This is not fixable until libtasn = 0.3.1 is uploaded, which will need to go through the NEW queue as the soname has changed. Not necessarily. gnutls13 does build in the absence of libtasn-dev, it just builds *differently* depending on whether libtasn1-3 is available: it uses its bundled tasn instead. Eh. The whole bug report by Bastian basically just says: It does not link against a externelly packages version of libtasn but statically against the included one. And this, Actually, the title of the bug report is rebuild loses dep against libtasn1, which is very much about whether the build-dependencies are correct. Hello, it depends on whether you read it as is not linked against external libtasn anymore or as depending on installed version of libtasn1-2-dev will be linked against external version or internal version. I read it in the former interpretation, which is only fixable by upoading libtasn1-3. As long as there is no libtasn1-3 in the archive, this should be ok (not great, but ok) -- so a reasonable solution might be to drop the build-dependency on libtasn1-2-dev and instead build-conflict with any libtasn dev packages that it could accidentally build against. Then when there's a -dev package for libtasn1-3, it should be re-added as a build-dependency. ... would not change what Bastian reported in *any* way. Removing the libtasn1-2 build-dependecy fixes the whishlist bug lists pacages i build-depends that it does not use at all. Adding a build-conflict against libtasn1-2-dev seems to be useless It's not useless. The libtasn1-2-dev 0.3 that was briefly in the archive is what the gnutls13 packages on i386 and s390 got built against. While this package will no longer be found on any of the buildds, in the interest of preventing accidental misbuilds on developer systems the build-conflict ought to be added. I see. I completely agree that gnutls13 should prevent building against this broken version. Limiting the build-conflict to the specific broken version of libtasn1-2-dev should be fine, if you want to take that approach. It seems to be cleaner to me. [...] As noted above I fail to see much of the necessity of the changes you propose and none of them changes gnutls13 is linked statically against libtasn. - If you consider gnutls13 is linked statically to not be grave just downgrade this bug. Wrong build-dependencies/build-conflicts are a serious bug. [...] Only if they can cause breakage imho, as you've shown above breakage is possible. Even though libdvdread-dev provides libdvdread3-dev, this won't fulfil your build-dependency since you have a versioned build dependency on libdvdread3-dev and provides don't support versions. -- Martin Michlmayr http://www.cyrius.com/ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#327564: Bug #327564: [patch] can't start aria
tags 327564 patch thanks Hello Jung-hoon, Chris and Rene, The attached patch seems to fix aria on 64bit plateform. At least I can download a file with aria now on amd64. This patch also fix most gcc warning on amd64. This patch replace use of 'unsigned int' where string::size_type would be expected (there are a lot of them). The problem was that string::size_type is a 64bit unsigned type and (string::size_type) -1 was used as a marker and was lost whe converting to 32 bit unsigned. There are still some poor usage of 'int' where a 64bit type would be better, but they do not seem to affect normal operations (maybe only if one try to download files =4B). (Rene, please add a file debian/README.sources explaining how to use the build system to get the patched sources). Cheers, -- Bill. Rob Browning [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: Thomas Bushnell BSG [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: http://buildd.debian.org/build.php?arch=pkg=guile-1.6 The ia64 buildd admin clearly has just not processed the failing log. Ahh. This isn't (or may not be) the same problem. It's not failing in the test suite, but rather when trying to build the docs. I don't know what you're talking about. At the end of that page is the link to the ia64 build of version 1.6.7-3. Clicking on that link brings you to the failing build from April 29, 2006, at the following URL: http://buildd.debian.org/fetch.php?pkg=guile-1.6ver=1.6.7-3arch=ia64stamp=1146285308file=logas=raw At the end of that log, is the following error, which generates the failure exit status: make[3]: Entering directory `/build/buildd/guile-1.6-1.6.7' Testing /build/buildd/guile-1.6-1.6.7/pre-inst-guile ... with GUILE_LOAD_PATH=/build/buildd/guile-1.6-1.6.7/test-suite ERROR: In procedure variable-set-name-hint!: ERROR: Wrong type argument in position ~A (expecting ~A): ~S FAIL: check-guile === 1 of 1 tests failed === make[3]: *** [check-TESTS] Error 1 make[3]: Leaving directory `/build/buildd/guile-1.6-1.6.7' This looks for all the world like a failure in the test suite, and the identical one in the original bug report. I see no indication of a failure in building docs. Thomas -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Bug#363294: gnutls13 - rebuild looses dep against libtasn1
tags 363294 patch thanks attached trivial patch prevents gnutls13 linking against the broken libtasn upload. I have tested this. The patch is intentionally minimal, i.e. it does not remove libgnutls-dev's dependency on libtasn1.2-dev, as some (broken) pakages might rely on libgnutls-dev pulling in libtasn headers. The following messages appear in the xterm from which I started Ted: appFont.c(812) aff-affFontFamilyName=Helvetica afe-afeXfontFamilies=0x0 [...] Hmm, it seems to be complaining that it can't find anything to use as a Helvetica font for that document. What happens if you do: xlsfont | grep -i helvetica Note that providing appropriate fonts is up to you. Debian packages cannot depend on particular fonts, because your Xserver and/or your font server may be located on different machines. Furthermore, there is no way for Ted to know which fonts might be required, because those are defined by the documents. Hence, as I say, providing the fonts you need is up to you. However, if this is the problem, then I do think that Ted could provide a more helpful error message! If access to fonts is not the problem, then I'm really not sure what to think. Bug#350088: Forcibly orphaning mhash?
Nathanael Nerode wrote: As discussed in this bug, mhash's maintainer appears to be MIA or out to lunch. Is it OK if we forcibly orphan the package now? What exactly do you want me to do? I released a new version recently, and as far as I can tell there's no consensus on whether the suggested fixes actually work. Plus, the upstream sources don't seem to be generally accessible now, so it's hard to tell what's going on there. So I continue to wait for something useful to happen. Plus, I've been teaching a new class this term and consequently have very little time. But the term's almost over. Bug#362482: broken dependencies
--- Øystein Gisnås [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: tir, 09,.05.2006 kl. 12.46 -0700, skrev Scott Anderson: Oystein, I dist-upgraded again today and one of the upgrades said to run debfoster2aptitude. After running this, my evolution installations are reported by aptitude as having broken dependencies, but I can't find what they are. Aptitude is not my main package tool, so other people probably can answer this better than me, but try this. In aptitude, search for broken packages by starting a search (press /) then use the search string ~b for broken packages. This may be a clue to my crash problem. Aptitude (GUI mode, I usually just use the command line), shows evolution-plugins with broken dependencies. * evolution-plugins depends on libgnutls13 (= 1.3.5) * evolution-plugins depends on libnotify1 The egroupwise libraries also depend on libgnutls13, and hence are broken. I also found something a little odd. libsoup2.2-8 depends on libgnutls12 libegroupwise1.2-9 depends on libsoup2.2-8 and libgnutls13 Is libsoup2.2-8 in transitition to depend on libgnutls13? Bug#366475: Scanimage on NSLU2 with hplip backend overflows
On Tue, 09 May 2006, Manolis Tzanidakis wrote: [20060509] Julien BLACHE [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: At this point, we're running the backend, so the bug probably lies in hplip. If possible, please provide a gdb backtrace so we can make sure it really happens in the backend. I'm sorry, I can't run gdb at the moment since I've re-connected the printer to the previous server, this box is in production after all. But I can verify that the bug lies in hplip, since I took the NSLU2 home and connected it to my Epson scanner (plustek sane-backend) and it works. So far so good, but unless I can duplicate the problem, or someone sends me a gdb backtrace or something else to help locate the issue, the chances of fixing this bug are close to zero. -- One disk to rule them all, One disk to find them. Bug#350088: Forcibly orphaning mhash?
Nathanael Nerode [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: As discussed in this bug, mhash's maintainer appears to be MIA or out to lunch. Is it OK if we forcibly orphan the package now? There is no procedure for forcible orphaning the package. If you have a fix for the bug (the bug log seems to suggest that nobody has a patch at the moment), then please add it to the log; since the bug is severity grave, you can certainly then do a proper NMU. We do not forcibly orphan anything; that's a silly procedure, because all it can do is change a package with a less-than-ideal maintainer into a package with none at all. There is a procedure for hijacking, but this is hardly a case. It's not like a clearly winning patch is being ignored.
