Bug#420390: Purging tetex transition packages removes texlive configuration files

Well, but this is what the postrm did, not my creation!

Bug#415287: Should ion3 snapshots be kept from testing?

2007-04-26 Thread Trent Buck
Etch has been released. Testing now points to Lenny.

As per http://bjorn.haxx.se/debian/testing.pl?package=ion3
this bug prevents ion3 from entering lenny.

Is this the desired behaviour? Reading the bug history, it looks like
this bug was created specifically to prevent ion3 entering *etch*, and
can now be closed.

Would it be possible to get access to such a machine? Or at least get

Without that much information I won't be able to debug it, as it seems
to be SA-110 specific, I mean it works correctly here and also on tbm

I downloaded the source (apt-get source), and I'm playing with it as well.
I'll report here if I have something.

Right, for some strange reason for the Italian (it) locale both
menu.xml.it and xfce-registered-categories.xml.it have two copies of
the content in each file

Can you please remove both of these extra copies i.e. delete from the
second ?xml version=1.0 encoding=UTF-8? down to the end of the
file. They are in /etc/xdg/xfce4/desktop/menu.xml.it and
/etc/xdg/xfce4/desktop/xfce-registered-categories.xml.it.

It seems to be the xfce-registered-categories one that is killing it for
me.

If you can confirm that this fixes it for you I'll upload a fix
shortly and file a bug with upstream too as obviously it shouldn't die
on random input.

You may need to clear out .cache/xfce4/desktop/* before you test it.

Let me know.

Bug#420872: [Pkg-xfce-devel] Bug#420872: xfdesktop4: segfaults in libc.so.6

2007-04-26 Thread David Paleino
Simon Huggins ha scritto:
Right, for some strange reason for the Italian (it) locale both
menu.xml.it and xfce-registered-categories.xml.it have two copies of
 the content in each file

Weird!

Can you please remove both of these extra copies i.e. delete from the
second ?xml version=1.0 encoding=UTF-8? down to the end of the
file. They are in /etc/xdg/xfce4/desktop/menu.xml.it and
 /etc/xdg/xfce4/desktop/xfce-registered-categories.xml.it.

It seems to be the xfce-registered-categories one that is killing it for
 me.

If you can confirm that this fixes it for you I'll upload a fix
shortly and file a bug with upstream too as obviously it shouldn't die
 on random input.

It fixed the problem (also with xfce4-menu-plugin).
Btw, a solution can be that it can stop parsing the xml file when it encounters
/xfdesktop-menu (for menu.xml.*) or /xfce-registered-categories (for
xfce-registered-categories.xml.*)

You may need to clear out .cache/xfce4/desktop/* before you test it.

Didn't need it ;-)

 Let me know.

Thanks for your great work!
David

2007-04-26 Thread Matej Vela
severity 419856 important

Olaf Zaplinski [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes:

login of local users fail with this configuration:

This works for me on both etch and sid (which are you using?). Maybe
there's some extra whitespace like in #419857?

On the similar subject, would you mind if I used your manpages in the

The manpages were written for the Debian project (but can be customized
for every distribution) :) So you may of course use them for the
installer-created Debian/Ubuntu packages. When I overhand them to ATI,
they would be part of it anyway. The license is currently a simple MIT
license. Only one thing: the manpages definitely always need the latest

Bug#419255: [Proftpd-devel] An anomaly in auth layer management?

On 16.04.07 13:27, Francesco P. Lovergine wrote:

After a few checks I established that apparently the
SQLAuthType pushes a plain-text authentication which
is also used by the successive mod_auth_unix layer, instead
of a crypted one (which should be the default).
In order to replicate, it suffices to use a system account like
'proftpd' or 'www-data' and use a password like '!' (at least on
Debian) I suspect the same for other platforms too, with a bit
 different modalities.

AFAIK, using ! or * for encrypted passwords is just and only a
convention for indicating of disabled/locked accounts. The real meaning is,
that crypt() function will never produce any of those passwords, so there is
no password you can encrypt to get ! or *.

if you use ! or * as plaintext passwords, OF COURSE you can log in using
! or *.

So, the problem comes out of misunderstanding in using special passwords
and using plaintext passwords where encrypted passwords should be used.

Hi Martin,

as you seem so eager to always reraise the severity I won't join in
playing this stupid BTS ping-pong.

Please make at least sure, that this RC bug doesn't block newer versions
of network-manager to enter testing, because I'm in the middle of a
small transition, and if 0.6.4-8 doesn't enter testing it will break
related packages. This bug isn't version specific anyway.

Thanks,

Upstream fixed this back in October in SVN. We'll have to prepare a
version for proposed-updates I guess.

There is another use of g_locale_from_utf8 in a similarly bogus way just
before.

I've added this one in and used char *s as that's what future versions
of orage have used.

Does that look sane to you?

It builds at least. I need to create a stable chroot and a stable
pbuilder environment to properly test it yet but if you could test it as
well that would help.

Severity set to `grave' from `normal'
 Hi Martin,

as you seem so eager to always reraise the severity I won't join in
 playing this stupid BTS ping-pong.

Please make at least sure, that this RC bug doesn't block newer versions
of network-manager to enter testing, because I'm in the middle of a
small transition, and if 0.6.4-8 doesn't enter testing it will break
related packages. This bug isn't version specific anyway.

As said in a previous mail (with my stable release managers hat on) this
IS release critical and needs to be fixed in both stable and testing,
however this issue is resolved. With the current state it produces
 serious data loss.

sarcasm
I intend to file a grave bug against the coreutils package.
Everytime I run rm -rf / as root, it causes severe data loss somehow.
/sarcasm

My point is: You have to use the tools the right way and you have to
know, what your tools were made for. Otherwise you're able to produce
severe data loss with almost any software.
Using network-manager for servers (or workstations) where you run
services like NFS means you are using network-manager the wrong way.
Again, network-manager was conceived for a different use case than the
above.
I can document that in README.Debian if you think this is sufficient to
solve this bug.
Btw, if you configure your network interface in /etc/network/interfaces
to use a static IP, network-manager won't touch this interface.
This means, only if you setup your server to get it's IP via DHCP,
network-manager will manage the interface. Judge yourself, if it's sane
to setup a server with dynamic IPs.

Besides, given the constraints I outlined in my previous emails
(remember S20sendsigs running before S31umountnfs.sh) I'd be interested
to know how I should be able to fix this within network-manager?
This is an honest question. If you have actually have an idea how we can
solve this issue, you have all my support.

Cheers,
Michael

Bug#364590: xpenguins-applet

2007-04-26 Thread Vidyadhar Gadgil
Facing the same problem as reported earlier in above bug report,
gnome-panel crashes after adding xpenguins-applet 2.1.1-3.1 on
gnome-panel 2.14.3. I am working with debian 4.0 stable.

This problem was faced by me earlier in Fedora Core 5 as well.

The earlier report goes When killing the X server and logging in again,
the panel is afterwards not usable and can be recovered only by killing
the xpenguins-applet. For me, the problem is more serious, I have to
delete the entire panel and start with a fresh one. xpenguins by itself
works fine.

Given that this problem is happening with debian 4.0 stable, it should
not be treated as closed.

It looks like this is rather an error in the build environment resolving
the build dependencies. With my pbuilder, it works.

Here it works, too.

 Further, you can
install tetex-bin very well (although it is a transitional package).

If you feel this still applies to musixtex, please explain and re-open
 this bug.

There are a couple of issues:

- pointless versions in the Build-Depends for the tetex packages
(satisfied at least in woody, if not potato)

- Build-Depends on tetex-base, a package which never provided any
relevant functionality to any package except tetex-bin

These two were bugs even for etch, and of wishlist or minor severity

- Build-Depends on tetex-*, which are transitional packages in lenny
which are meant as a help for users, but should *never* occur in
  a control file.

This is an important bug which will get RC after lenny, at which time
the transitional packages will vanish.

Actually, the recommended procedure is to leave user entries on the
system, even on purge. [1,2]

The attached patch simply remove the user deletion on purge.

Not sure if this is a bug in exim4 or sa-exim
When the latest as of exim4-daemon-heavy ie 4.63-17+b1 is installed
sa-exim breaks
with the following error:
Local configuration error - local_scan() library
failure\n/usr/lib/exim4/local_scan/sa-exim.so: undefined symbol:
primary_hostname
looks like someone has removed (surely not) or renamed (more likely) the
primary_hostname symbol in exim4

I have reverted back to exim4-daemon-heavy 4.63-17+b1

   * Urgency medium to reach testing before exim4.
   * Since version 4.67-1, exim4 only exports those symbols that are part
of the official local_scan API. Unfortunately, sa-exim cheated and
declared three extern variables by itself:
 · primary_hostname: Now retrieved by expanding $primary_hostname.
 · smtp_out: Use smtp_fflush() to get error indication.
 · body_linecount: No workaround; $body_linecount simply won't be
updated. I'm working to get Exim to update it along with other

Package: sa-exim
Version: 4.2.1-7
Severity: normal

Not sure if this is a bug in exim4 or sa-exim
When the latest as of exim4-daemon-heavy ie 4.63-17+b1 is installed
sa-exim breaks
with the following error:
Local configuration error - local_scan() library
failure\n/usr/lib/exim4/local_scan/sa-exim.so: undefined symbol:
primary_hostname
looks like someone has removed (surely not) or renamed (more likely) the
primary_hostname symbol in exim4

I have reverted back to exim4-daemon-heavy 4.63-17+b1

of the official local_scan API. Unfortunately, sa-exim cheated and
declared three extern variables by itself:
 · primary_hostname: Now retrieved by expanding $primary_hostname.

Not sure if this is a bug in exim4 or sa-exim
When the latest as of exim4-daemon-heavy ie 4.63-17+b1 is installed
sa-exim breaks
with the following error:
Local configuration error - local_scan() library
failure\n/usr/lib/exim4/local_scan/sa-exim.so: undefined symbol:

looks like someone has removed (surely not) or renamed (more likely) the

Changes:
 sa-exim (4.2.1-8) unstable; urgency=medium
 .
 · body_linecount: No workaround; $body_linecount simply won't be
updated. I'm working to get Exim to update it along with other
   variables such as $message_size.

Package: nscd
Version: 2.5-4
Severity: grave

Your package depends on libssp0 which is no longer present in the
latest gcc-4.1 upload (4.1.2-4). Following Matthias Klose's advice
in http://bugs.debian.org/421162, I report this as a bug against your
package. Please examine whether a binNMU solves this problem or if
you have to change the dependencies.

With 2.10.1 in unstable, can you please try and see if this problem
has been fixed? I'm quite confident it has...

Until now, i dont have any problem with the new version. Give me please

Bug#421171: mksh: depends on removed libssp0 package

2007-04-26 Thread Thorsten Glaser
Sven Joachim dixit:

Package: mksh
Version: 29.2-1
Severity: grave

Your package depends on libssp0 which is no longer present in the
latest gcc-4.1 upload (4.1.2-4).

Why is that library gone and/or how is ProPolice SSP in gcc 4.1+ then
supposed to work without it?

If the __guard_setup() and __stack_smash_handler() functions are now
contained in libc, a simple recompile is in fact enough.

Hi,

I've just finished a full rebuild of sid/i386 on Grid'5000, so I now
have a list of failures that need investigation.

The logs are available on:
http://people.debian.org/~lucas/logs/2007/03/13/

The lists of failures are in the collab-qa svn repository:
Sorted by package:
http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/collab-qa/archive-rebuilds/2007-03-13-unstable-i386/failed.list?op=file
Sorted by maintainer:
http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/collab-qa/archive-rebuilds/2007-03-13-unstable-i386/failed.ddlist?op=file

If you want to help with reviewing those failures, feel free to join the
collab-qa alioth project ( http://alioth.debian.org/projects/collab-qa/
). This will be very much appreciated :-) Some
additional info is also available in the README file.

Also, comments/suggestions on the process are welcomed as well, of course.

Bug#392397: preparing a QA upload

2007-04-26 Thread Neil Williams
Hi Marga,

With xracer now orphaned, I want to prepare a QA upload that closes
this bug.

However, the diff attached to the bug report includes some anomalies;
The faq.html and faq.txt files appear to have been patched when
Makefile.am indicates that faq.chtml should be the source of faq.html
and faq.txt
faq.txt contains unprintable characters - this I suspect is a build
error where it is assuming that html-txt conversion is done in an
English locale of some kind. I may need to force that to LANG=C. (How
important are the FAQ changes, bearing in mind xracer is orphaned?)
A few Makefile.in files are patched, rather than the
Makefile.am. Whilst this means the rebuild does not need to run
automake or autoconf, if someone does run automake or autoconf to fix a
different bug, the effect of your patches will be lost.

I note the diff was intended as a 'work-in-progress' - is there an
updated patch at all?

I was thinking I'd probably add dpatch support and patch 'src/track.c'
directly.

No rush - I expect you're busy with DebConf. (See you in Edinburgh.)
:-)
