 Sur cette page évidemment :

A gauche tu as Images ISO de cederoms

l'option (fort utile) --added-patches.

hwclock :
10:49 gi...@thor ~ % hwclock
Cannot access the Hardware Clock via any known method.
Use the --debug option to see the details of our search for an access
method.
zsh: exit 1 hwclock

10:50 gi...@thor ~ % hwclock --debug
hwclock from util-linux-ng 2.15.1-rc1
hwclock: Open of /dev/rtc failed, errno=13: Permission non accordée.
No usable clock interface found.
Cannot access the Hardware Clock via any known method.
zsh: exit 1 hwclock --debug

10:50 gi...@thor ~ % ll /dev/rtc
crw-rw 1 root root 10, 135 jui 5 10:11 /dev/rtc

/usr/share/wicd/wicd-daemon.py
$ rm -r .wicd
# aptitude purge wicd
# aptitude install wicd
# reboot

 /usr/share/wicd/wicd-daemon.py
 $ rm -r .wicd
 # aptitude purge wicd
 # aptitude install wicd
 # reboot

Rotas Persistentes/Staticas Network-Manager

2009-07-05 Thread Flamarion Jorge

Bom dia pessoal,

funcionar.

Situação:

rede 10.2.4.0/24 rota default 10.2.4.10
rede 192.168.204.0/24 rota 10.2.4.1
rede 10.6.1.0/24 rota 10.2.4.1

Simples a principio.

O lance é o seguinte, vou no applet do NM e peço para editar as conexões, vou
na aba ipv4, coloco ip, masc e gateway, neste caso o default.
Na mesma aba tem o botão rotas.
Vou lá e adiciono as outras rotas, pra rede 192.168.204.0/24 e 10.6.1.0/24 e
aponto para o gateway 10.2.4.1.
Massa né? Nada disso.
funcionam perfeitamente e eu perco o defaul gw.
Vou colocar o exemplo da situação aqui:

Antes da configuração das rotas persistentes:

Destino RoteadorMáscaraGen.Opções Métrica Ref Uso Iface
10.2.4.00.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 1 00 eth0
169.254.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.0.0 U 1000 00 eth0
0.0.0.0 10.2.4.10 0.0.0.0 UG0 00 eth0

Depois das rotas persistentes:

Destino RoteadorMáscaraGen.Opções Métrica Ref Uso Iface
10.2.4.00.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 1 00 eth0
192.168.204.0 10.2.4.1255.255.255.0 UG0 00 eth0
10.98.0.0 10.2.4.1255.255.0.0 UG0 00 eth0
10.6.0.010.2.4.1255.255.0.0 UG0 00 eth0
169.254.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.0.0 U 1000 00 eth0

10.2.4.00.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 1 00 eth0
192.168.204.0 10.2.4.1255.255.255.0 UG0 00 eth0
10.98.0.0 10.2.4.1255.255.0.0 UG0 00 eth0
10.6.0.010.2.4.1255.255.0.0 UG0 00 eth0
169.254.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.0.0 U 1000 00 eth0
0.0.0.0 10.2.4.10 0.0.0.0 UG0 00 eth0

$ ./StartTibia.sh engine 0

as vezes funciona (daí depende do hardware e drivers instalados+configuração

 melhor no unstable?

Thanks for the suggestions. 'apt-cache search' does not find

Re: problem with SATA disk, difference between standard kernel and Debian kernel

2009-07-05 Thread lee
An update on this (see long quote below) --- maybe it helps someone
with a similar problem:

After a total disk failure seemed imminent --- the disconnected disk
didn't come back after turning the computer off and back on --- I got
two new disks to replace the Maxtor 7V300F0 disks. I made a software
RAID-1 from the new disks and managed to copy all my data to the new
disks.

That allowed me to play around with the Maxtor disks. I found out that
there is a firmware update available for them[1] which is supposed to
solve the problem with the disks disconnecting. I updated the firmware
today.

The disks seem to be working so far; I'm using them for making
backups, and a backup on one of the disks made before the firmware
update is still readable after updating the firmware. I didn't check
the other disk, but mdadm still recognized the other disk as being
part of a RAID-1 and started an md device for it, which would indicate
that everything on that disk was also still readable. --- Time will
tell if the problem with disconnecting is finally solved.

For reference on the firmware, see [2].

If you need to boot some DOS version from a USB stick or an USB disk:
Install the unetbootin package. Download a FreeDos 2.88MB floppy
image[3] (1.44 is too small) and the firmware archive. Unzip the
firmware archive. Mount the floppy image file as loop device (mount
here imagefile -o loop) and copy the files from the firmware archive
into the image file. Unmount the image file. Use unetbootin to to make
a bootable USB stick from the floppy image (Select Floppy Image
instead of ISO in unetbootin when selecting the file to write onto
the stick.) Disconnect all hard disks and DVD/CD drives except for
the Maxtor disk the firmware of which you're going to update. Turn off
AHCI mode in the BIOS. Boot from the USB stick, but press F8 while
booting (after the boot manager) and do NOT load highmem, emm386 and
especially not some pciusb.sys (or how it was called). Run dload.exe,
choose no power control, first disk found and an option called
something like transfer in one part; then select the firmware
file. It takes a few seconds to update the firmware; the update
program will tell you when it was successful. When it was successful,
exit the update program and start it again to verify the firmware
version. It should show firmware version VA111680. --- It worked for
me, but ymmv, so take all precautions, like making backups before you
start ...

On a side note, it took me awfully long to figure out how to make a
DOS bootable USB stick under Linux. Try to google for that, you just
don't find it ... Your BIOS must be able to boot from such devices,
but if it does, it seems you could even use a card reader (with a card
inserted, of course) instead of a stick, and it doesn't matter if the
stick says that is supports booting or not. Unetbootin is awesome
... This one might also be interesting: http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/

Using a Debian kernel (2.6.24) --- one of the things I tried --- did
not solve the problem with disconnecting.

[2]: http://forums.storagereview.net/index.php?showtopic=22435st=0
[3]: http://www.fdos.org/bootdisks/ --- I think I used another one,
but I don't remember where I got it. If you need the image file I
used, let me know and I can mail it to you.

 Hi,

what's the difference between a standard kernel and a kernel that
 comes as a Debian package?

I'm using a standard kernel, but I'm having problems with one of my
disks (see below). The disk gets lost every now and then, i. e. it
seems to take a couple days or weeks now (I've seen it taking as long
as about two months with the old board) before it happens. The disk
remains unavailable until I turn the power off and back on. Once the
disk is back, I can re-add the partitions on the failed disk to the md
devices, and they are being rebuilt just fine, and it works for some
time until the disk gets lost again.

This problem isn't new; it has been there with another board/CPU/RAM,
cables and power supply ever since I got the two SATA disks new. It's
been there with every standard kernel I tried over the years, with
i368, and now it's the same with amd64. I've been thinking it was a
problem of the board I had, but as it's there with another board etc.,
it must be either the disk itself or the SATA driver.

Googling revealed that this isn't a rare problem. There are people
reporting it with all kinds of different disks and boards and
different distributions. Some suggest that it's a problem with the PSU
or the SATA cables, but imho that's unlikely. Interestingly, it seems
to be more common for this problem to show up in RAID setups.

Also interestingly, mdadm did *not* detect the disk failure for
/dev/md2 which is mounted read only.

And even more interestingly, the problem is and has always been with
 /dev/sdb,

fvwm-crystal and openoffice.org: incompatible?

2009-07-05 Thread lee
Hi,

is there an incompatibility between fvwm-crystal and openoffice.org
(writer)? I'm trying out fvwm (crystal) and now started openoffice to
open a document.

Starting openoffice works, but when trying to open a document with
openoffice, nothing happens. The file selector should show up and let
me select the file I want to open, but it doesn't. It worked fine
under enlightenment. Specifying the filename on the command line from
a shell works.

Can someone verify this? Is that a problem with the default
configuration of fvwm, or is there some sort of bug? I'm using Debian
testing AMD64.

You could try to download a more recent version of the package (like
the version from testing or unstable) and install that (see
http://packages.debian.org). Then if you want the version that you're
supposed to have, remove the more recent package and install the
package you're supposed to have.

Maybe aptitude will fix it for you, but if you have been using
dselect/apt-get, you need to check very carefully what exactly
aptitude is going to do.

The only way I know to fix such issues is to reboot. I would be
surprised if this was the only way to repair such issues in linux land
being that there are usually 20 ways to do the same task and Unix-like

suppose you might try rmmod the device module. This makes it difficult
if your root (or any other) partition are also using the same driver.

That seems to be an unsolved issue, i. e. there's no other way known

Maybe there's some sort of force option --- if there isn't, there

stick and make that bootable.

However, I don't know if a CD or DVD installer image will work from an
USB stick: The installer might be configured to look for a CD/DVD
rather than an USB device to find it's files. In that case, you would
need an installer adapted to work from USB.

Looks like a problem of that file manager.

Nokia bluetooth set won't pair anymore

2009-07-05 Thread Klistvud
Hi listers.

My Nokia BH-103 headset used to work flawlessly in Lenny/Gnome until
twenty or so days ago. Then, one day, it wouldn't connect. After many
unsuccessful retries I deleted it from the list of Bonded devices in
the gnome bluetooth-applet window. Well, after that, the applet will
not ask for a passphrase no matter what I try, and thus, I can't pair
the headset to the computer anymore. Does anyone know where bluetooth-
applet keeps its configuration files (bonded devices) so I can try to
change them manually? And, no, it's not in /etc/bluetooth, I've checked
there and those are just default files, there are no actual bonded
devices listed (such as my Nokia phone which is bonded flawlessly).

Thx in advance!

What do you mean with verb sed here. What do you want to do? The
format of sed's s command is

s/regexp/replace/flags

In regexp atom . matches any character. If you want to match any

system taking ages to resolve dns

2009-07-05 Thread Daniel Dalton
Hi,

I just reinstalled debian this week. It has not solved my issue of
resolving dns taking a long time. Basically the issue is: If I want to
access a dns such as google, or debian.org, it takes for ever to resolve
the dns. Whether I'm using firefox or lynx to browse the web or msmtp to
send email, the resolving of dns is over 30 seconds. If I use the ip
address though, access is almost instant. So what can I do to solve this
problem? Only occuring on my debian system, windows vista on the same
system works fine, and no one else on the network seems to have issues
like these. The issue started happening when I got my new dsl2 modem
(netgear, nb5). As I said I did a reinstall, and with the base system
and testing with lynx, I found the problem pretty much the same. So how
can I speed up dns resolution?

Thanks,

I had a mistake on the original email: It was the testing (squeeze)

sent some extra info to reproduce it.

The non-technical workaround: Burn a lenny installer, set up the
encrypted lvm, install just the base system, and the upgrade to testing.

By the way, I *think* the problem was introduced by a new feature that
they are trying to introduce: The partitioning of the logical volumes.
After the installer crashed, I could see in /dev/mapper the logical
volume foo of the volume group bar I had created, as well as a partition
like thing:

/dev/mapper:
bar-foo
bar-foop1

Maybe I am wrong as to the development's intention. Anyway, does it make
any sense to partition a logical volume?

The whole purpose of protection is to PREVENT you from doing what you are
trying to do. It wouldn't be much protection if this didn't work, would
 it?

Google Microsoft Word password. The don't modify locking is advisory
only, like PDF locking. Besides, it's from Microsoft. Do you seriously
expect it to work?

You can just edit the configuration file /etc/X11/xorg.conf.
In the Monitor section, change the resolution.

 Hi,

I just reinstalled debian this week. It has not solved my issue of=20
resolving dns taking a long time. Basically the issue is: If I want to=20
access a dns such as google, or debian.org, it takes for ever to resolve=20
the dns. Whether I'm using firefox or lynx to browse the web or msmtp to=20
send email, the resolving of dns is over 30 seconds. If I use the ip=20
address though, access is almost instant. So what can I do to solve this=20
problem? Only occuring on my debian system, windows vista on the same=20
system works fine, and no one else on the network seems to have issues=20
like these. The issue started happening when I got my new dsl2 modem=20
(netgear, nb5). As I said I did a reinstall, and with the base system=20
and testing with lynx, I found the problem pretty much the same. So how=20
can I speed up dns resolution?

Post your /etc/resolv.conf. I guess you have more than one dns server
in the file, and the first one does not work properly. Some app just try
the first one, and others try the remaining dns servers if the first one
does not work.

it seems that xorg now can run without xorg.conf and without the
configuration stage. Is the monitor not cofnigured correctly?
Generally speaking you should just be able to plug in a new monitor
and have it just work. If that is not the case, then you'll have to
configure some pieces in xorg.conf manually. Specifically, you'll
probably need to set up the horizontal and vertical sync. In extreme
cases you'll still need to specify a mode line like the days of old,
but that should largely be gone now.

What results are you getting with the monitor?
