Autopsie d'un pseudo crash
Bonjour, Une machine distante fonctionnant sous Debian - Linux version 2.6.26-2-486 (Debian 2.6.26-15) - fait des siennes... Et comme elle n'est pas juste à la porte d'à coté mais un peu plus loin je ne peux pas intervenir en direct lorsqu'elle est dans les choux. Le dernier observateur sur cette machine a constaté les symptômes suivants : - plus de connexion réseau possible depuis l'extérieur cad pas de réponse au ping et les connexions telnet sur des port connus restent sans réponses ; - sur la console plus de login cad pas de possibilité de saisir un login et l'appui sur enter ne fait rien, mais pas de message comme quoi un problème système aurait survenu et aurait provoqué l'arrêt du système ; - lorsque l'on branche et débranche un câble réseau, la machine réagit et émet un bip (ifplugd est installé) ; - un reboot au bouton fait repartir la bête... D'après ces symptômes je penche pour un manque de ressource comme de la mémoire (une fuite dans mes programmes zut alors) ou bien une ressource bloquante comme plus de process possible (welcome to zombieland), a priori je ne pense pas à un pb de disque à cause du comportement au reboot (à moins d'une saturation de /tmp). J'ai récupéré l'ensemble des log de /var/log, mais là je suis un peu comme une poule devant un couteau : que faut-il observer et ces fichiers sont-ils suffisant pour un diagnostique a posteriori ? En observant les auth.log je constate qu'à partir d'un moment les log horaire du cron s'arrêtent et ce jusqu'au reboot suivant = ce qui me conforte dans mon hypothèse d'une saturation de ressources. Par contre ni syslog, ni d'autres fichiers ne semblent indiquer la cause de ce décès... Ceci me porte sur une autre piste : comment prévenir cette saturation avant qu'elle ne soit létale = c'est à dire forcer un reboot avant qu'il ne soit trop tard (ça ne corrige pas mais ça soulage) ? Je pense au watchdog : la cible est une geode qui dispose d'un watchdog matériel/soft comment le mettre en service ? je n'ai pas trouvé de documentation claire sur ce sujet jusqu'à présent... Je soumets tout cela à votre sagacité... J'ai besoin de l'installer pour Wine, sinon mes jeux tournent autour de 2 FPS en utilisant DirectX 9. J'ai été obligé de supprimer le kernel NVIDIA puisqu'il interagissait avec Nouveau (écran noir à l'écran de login). En re-essayant l'installation automatique avec le fichier exécutable, celui-ci reçoit un signal SIGTERM. Pas de chance. Je vais voir comment ça avance. PB reconnaissance scanner réseau
Bonsoir. J'ai un problème avec mon scanner réseau. sur une debian 6.0 , imprimante/scanner multifonction HP 5180 connecté en RJ45 sur une livebox2 hplip-3.11.5 installé (téléchargé sur http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/index.html ) Xsane + toutes les dépendance données sur le site HP = http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install/manual/distros/debian.html L'imprimante fonctionne sans aucun probleme. Le scanner n'est pas vu. Il fonctionne cependant sous Windows, sur ce même PC ( multiboot) Le pare-feu de ma livebox est invalidé, ufw aussi invalidé. la commande scanimage -L ne me donne que ma webcam. Je suis bien (l'user loggé) dans les groupes lp et scanner Merci pour votre aide.

Je suis bien (l'user loggé) dans les groupes lp et scanner Sane utilise le pilote hpaio pour utiliser les scanners HP via hplip. Dans le paquet hplip fournit par Debian, il y a un fichier /etc/sane/dll.d/hplip qui permet le chargement du pilote par Sane. Est-ce que c’est aussi le cas pour celui que tu as récupéré ? Plutôt problème matériel que logiciel (un arrêt CPU pour surchauffe p.ex.). Un problème logiciel laisse en général des traces (notamment ceux que tu envisages). P.ex. s’il n’a plus de mémoire, le noyau en récupère en tuant des applications et il le dit en console (sauf si les messages ont été bloqués) ou dans le dmesg (donc aussi sur disque). ’fin, pour la mémoire toujours, même s’il n’y a pas de message en direct, le noyau récupère et ne gèle pas la machine pour si peu. Il y aussi la possibilité d’un plantage pour cause de pilote matériel qui ne laisse pas trop le temps de laisser des traces. J'ai récupéré l'ensemble des log de /var/log, mais là je suis un peu comme une poule devant un couteau : que faut-il observer et ces fichiers sont-ils suffisant pour un diagnostique a posteriori ? Pas toujours suffisants. Si tu penses à la mémoire ou aux processus, regarde /var/log/dmesg ou kern.log. En observant les auth.log je constate qu'à partir d'un moment les log horaire du cron s'arrêtent et ce jusqu'au reboot suivant = ce qui me conforte dans mon hypothèse d'une saturation de ressources. Ce qui me conforte dans une hypothèse d’un gel matériel… Vérifie d’autres fichiers de log (p.ex. syslog qui, par défaut, met une marque toutes les 40min, et ne nécessite ni plus de mémoire ni de lancer d’autre processus pour cela). Par contre ni syslog, ni d'autres fichiers ne semblent indiquer la cause de ce décès... Ceci me porte sur une autre piste : comment prévenir cette saturation avant qu'elle ne soit létale = c'est à dire forcer un reboot avant qu'il ne soit trop tard (ça ne corrige pas mais ça soulage) ? On ne règle pas un problème que l’on n’est pas sûr d’avoir… Si tu crois vraiment que c’est la bonne piste, tu peux déjà commencer par noter régulièrement le nombre de processus et l’utilisation mémoire dans un fichier de log. De todos modos, te aconsejo haproxy, yo lo usé para implementar una solución puramente activo-pasivo que no encontré la forma de hacerlo con ldirectord, y es mucho mas completo, tratándose de tráfico http puedes meterte dentro del protocolo, es decir, balancear por virtualhost, etc ... Una de las diferencias que encontre es que haproxy trabaja en capa 7 y LVS creo recordad que lo hace en capa 4. Con 2 nodos con haproxy+pacemaker puedo balancear squid y apache? De todos modos, te aconsejo haproxy, yo lo usé para implementar una solución puramente activo-pasivo que no encontré la forma de hacerlo con ldirectord, y es mucho mas completo, tratándose de tráfico http puedes meterte dentro del protocolo, es decir, balancear por virtualhost, etc ... Una de las diferencias que encontre es que haproxy trabaja en capa 7 y LVS creo recordad que lo hace en capa 4. Con 2 nodos con haproxy+pacemaker puedo balancear squid y apache? Es que todo lo que encuentro de haproxy lo hace para el protocolo http/https No tienes problema, puedes configurar el parámetro mode en http, de esta forma te permite jugar con las cabeceras propias del protocolo http, o bien en tcp que se limita a balancear y reenvíar los paquetes tal cual. problemas sparkweb+ejabberd
Saludos Listeros, alguien ha implementado ejaberd+ldap+sparkweb; el ejaberd me funciona bien con cualquier cliente como Pidgin, pero a la hora de utilizar el cliente web sparkweb en los log de el ejabberd se muestra como que se conectó, mientras que el cliente cuando intento logearme me dice Not authorized. El operador solo tiene que dar un click sobre el acceso directo y listo, funciona. Configurar Parámetros de Contraseñas
Buenos días: La consulta es la siguiente. He visto un poco que para modificar ciertos parámetros de la contraseña (como ser caducidad, complejidad de contraseña, tiempo entre cambio de contraseñas, etc) puedo modificarlos con el comando change y usermod. Ahora, también he visto comentarios sobre que es posible manejar esto con el modulo selinux, pero realmente no estoy seguro de esto. La consulta es, esta información se almacena en algun/os archivos que pueda modificar a mano? Me gustaría setear valores por defecto para todos los nuevos usuarios en un Debian y no he encontrado la forma correcta de hacerlo. Saludos,

Entonces el problema no es el soporte de la camara. Tiene cheese instalado, o bajo que programa la quiere correr? Ola toda vez que presciso acessar o servidor pelo vnc eu presciso entrqar via ssh e abrir uma secao do vnc manual com o comando vncserver :1 -geometry 1280x768 -depth 32 -pixelformat rgb565 pra soh depois conseguir entrar tem como fazer isto ficar automatico ou seja ele abrir sempre uma secao do vnc quando inicia o sistema?

Aviso: Este e-mail é consideravelmente longo. ___ Minha decepção com a Debian: Esses dias eu tinha um Notebook Compaq Presario CQ42-212BR, com 4 partições primárias no HD. Aí um dia eu peguei o primeiro cd de instalação do Squeeze, q eu tinha arranjado (só tinha e só tenho o primeiro), aí eu fui tentar instalar. Confiando no instalador. Eu pensei o Debian é bem feito, não vai dar problema. Eu gosto do Linux mais pela ideologia, do q pela parte técnica, mas eu sei q o Linux é bem melhor do q o Ruindows, na parte tecnica. A questão é: O Debian me decepcionou muito e a não ser q vcs deêm boas respostas pros problemas aqui apresentados eu vou mudar pro Ubuntu. Eu nunca tinha instalado nem usado Debian até agora pouco. Mas pelo q eu tinha lido, Debian era a melhor distribuição. Ninguém disse Debian é a melhor distribuição eu achava isso baseado nas caracteristicas da distro, meu gosto pessoal, etc. Tenho contato com essas coisas de Linux desde 2007. Aí começaram os problemas. Eu pensei, eu crio uma partição extendida com o instalador do Debian, formato em ext3 e pronto. Eu já tinha particionado antes, nunca com partição extendida, mas tudo bem. Já tinha um pouco de experiência com isso, só q dessa outra vez eu tinha particionado antes de rodar o instalador (do Ubuntu no caso). Eu tinha particionado usando o gparted do live cd do Ubuntu 6.10. Pois bem, coloquei o cd do Debian, e rodei o instalador, quando chegou na parte de particionar eu redimencionei a maior partição NTFS de 308.5 GB para 300 GB, pensando, esse bicho é inteligente, ele não vai apagar nada, pq a maior parte desses 300 tá vazia, ele vai reorganizar os dados no disco. Pois então, ele não me perguntou o q fazer com esses 8.5 e mandou eles pro limbo. Eu pensei: Tudo bem. Vou formatar e particionar essa joça (os 8.5). Mas quando eu marquei os 8.5 no programa particionador do instalador do Squeeze. O idiota dizia isso é espaço vazio. Não exatamente essa frase, mas era só isso q ele dizia, isso e o bit ou byte (eu sei oq é bit e byte), não sei, onde começava a porcaria, algo q não vou usar de jeito nenhum. Pq não vou fazer algo tão importante como particionamento, na linha de comando. Tenho uma certa experiencia na linha de comando, mas não particiono nem vou nela. Pois bem, o animal não me dava opção nenhuma, não me perguntava nada, nem nada. Cheguei a botar instalar, mas aí o imbecil disse Vc não selecionou nenhuma partição, é claro q não, ele não me deixa criar nenhuma, filho duma vaca. Então eu saí do instalador e entrei no Windows, mas antes disso, a inicialização rodou o chkdsk, não sei exatamente pq, não sei se ele recuperou algum dado perdido. Se sim, estou fora do Debian, mas se alguém sabe gostaria q me contasse. Bem, depois disso eu pensei: O gparted é um programa bem básico, deve ter no primeiro cd do Squeeze, apesar de serem mais de 30. Aí eu formatei um pendrive em ext3, usando um live cd Ubuntu (mais novo do q o 6.10 e customizado), e rodei o instalador de novo, naquele programa particionador idiota selecionei o pendrive (isso dava pra fazer, limpar a própria sujeira não, né?) e instalei o Debian no pendrive, aí o debilóide veio dizendo de instalar o GRUB no HD principal [cara, eu não tenho nem palavras pra descrever uma burrice dessas, ele deveria perguntar onde eu queria instalar o GRUB e perguntar se eu queria instalar na mesma mídia onde estava instalando o resto (acho q já tinha instalado tudo, mas isso não vem ao caso), isso é indesculpável e absolutamente imperdoável. Não adianta tentar defender... Já é ponto a menos pra Debian]. Aí eu botei não e ele perguntou onde bota então?, e ao invés de mostrar uma lista das partições e/ou dispositivos disponíveis, como ele tinha feito com o particionador, o jumento mandou eu escrever o endereço da joça q eu queria. Vai tomar no **. Seu maldito. Eu não deveria ter q saber isso. Ele instalou o sistema todinho e em nenhum momento tive de fornecer essa informação. Isso é uma animalidade sem tamanho, não existe defesa de uma babaquice como essa. Ponto a menos pra Debian (placar -2). Aí eu pensei: bem não tem tanto problema instalar o GRUB no HD principal pq ele só vai pedir o pendrive se escolher a opção 'Debian' e eu vou colocar a opção 'Windows' no topo, no dual boot. Cara agora toda vez q liga ele dá grub rescue. No ls ele diz: (hd0), (hd0,msdos4), (hd0,msdos3), (hd0,msdos2), (hd0,msdos1). Q são as 4 partições do HD, 2 NTFS e 2 FAT (acredito q 32). E esse hd0, acredito q seja a parte q o lixão mandou pro limbo. E no set ele diz: prefix=(hd0,msdos1)/boot/grub root=hd0,msdos1 Onde está o pendrive nessa história? hd0 não é o HD principal? Pq ele precisa do pendrive pra inicializar (me deêm uma boa resposta pra isso, se não é ponto a menos pra Debian)? Como eu resolvo isso? Sometimes, I get stingy and stick to business card ISO (which is still smaller than the netinst). Most importantly I want the installer to have the option to install the bootloader to the partition itself and not the MBR. when I tried w32 installer it didn't gave me the option. Snd-hda-intel Problems
Running latest 2.6.39 32-bit kernel from Sid, the on-board sound only plays in mono. Moving the balance control on xmms can only get sound to one side and has a wierd effect on the pcm level control. Most of the chipset's features are disabled (but I only want plain vanilla stereo sound anyway). Has three stacks of two jacks on the back, the leftmost also has SPDIF. Most googled documention describes connections for two stacks of three jacks. Enabling this in BIOS effect serial ports. Being able to issue a 'restart' on a service has become the de facto way of indicating a configuration change. I would have thought that the devs, instead of just issuing a warning, could have worked round the problem. Maybe it's on someone's todo list. It looks to me, that as I have a simple network, with a single interface, I'd be quite safe in ignoring the warning. 1. I came across debconf-get-selections , a tool that helps to create unattended installs preseed.cfg file. Is there something like this for debian that would run under windows ? Is there any reason that you need the internal audio device? I always disable on-board sound. On my machine I'm using a RME HDSP AIO and two TerraTec EWX 96/24 cards, only if I really need sound, I don't use desktop sound, IMO desktop sound is environmental pollution (I'm serious). I suspect your Lexicon would have a better sound quality and if important for the usage, less latency too. If you will listen to sound it will be the better choice. Are you sure that the issue is related to the kernel update? The argument that I've seen (and I've fallen vistim of this because a purchasing manager once dropped a letter from the end of a RAID card model) is can you be sure if a RAID card or a motherboard is replaced that you'll be able to plug in your disks and boot without a hitch? I prefer mdadm, whether this is an issue or not. Yes, but that's another -and complete- different problem. Only linux software raid (md) allows you to easily migrate a raid without many troubles. Most of the hardware based RAID cards also suffer from this (although manufacturers are adding the option for an easy migration to another controller of the same brand, that's still not the common rule). But everybody should now what are the advantages of a true hardwrae RAID card. And lastly, fake-raid cards suffer not only for the worst performance but also from having to deal with a motherboard change. So in brief, when thinking in RAID I first try to choose a real hardware raid controller, second option would go for linux softare raid (md) and lastly, fake-raid (dm) is there is no other chance... alternative to kaffeine?
Hi, is there a good alternative to kaffeine? Since I ran dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig-config and dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig, kaffeine only shows a black window. It seems to be still working, just I can't do much with it because the window is blacked out. So far, I've tried mythtv, and I don't like it, and I tried vdr and couldn't get it to work, probably because I'd need another TV card. What I'm looking for is a way to record movies with my TV card, preferably something that can run independent from X11. Debian changes active partition?
I don't know if its just my screwed up system or debian, but this has happened twice now. Installed debian once with the w32 installer and once with the normal installer. Both times I chose not to install the MBR. Upon rebooting I found my system unbootable. To fix it I had to boot with hiren's and mark my windows system partition as active, after which it happily booted into windows. Oh, well, I am happy with the software raid that I have been running for years, but still would like to know for intellectual curiosity how to install the bios raid. :-( But, Tom's comments on Grub were useful. For the record, and any other poor soul with this problem I will now record the solution. As I had already finished my install without grub, I booted using my systemrescuecd (althoughI suppose recovery mode of the install disk would have worked). I then mounted my new root partition (which had my entire system as I only had / and /home partitions defined). Then I did a mount --bind for /dev and /proc on top of my mounted new root partition. Then a chroot to the new root partition. And finally a grub-install --recheck /dev/sda fixed all the problems. Thanks Stuart

This anacron job runs every day and update your mlocate database. You can disable it or just move it to /etc/cron.weekly/ or /etc/cron.monthly/ is up to you. When grub (I'm assuming you have grub installed) is not installed into the MBR, the installer marks the boot partition (well, the one where you did install grub) as active because it will not load otherwise. But that should not make your system unbootable, it should load grub. If you mark the Windows partition active, then you will not be able to boot into Debian. So what do you want to achieve? Arno

Not my mistake, how am I supposed to know the drive letter of a non-existing partition ? So what do you want to achieve?
