Re: testing (stretch): Partition disks Guided - set up encrypted LVM-- failed

2015-08-14 Thread nice sw123
Hi John,

Or must I install Jessie and then change from there to Stretch??

That is almost always the best way to install Testing, unless your
intent is to help debug the installer.

Ok I ended up doing it like that! (first install a minimal stable
[Jessie], then dist-upgrade to testing [Stretch])

Refnotes
~~

I loaded the Jessie CD image to a usb stick (dmesg showed me that it's /dev/sdb)
## umount usb, then:
cp jessie.img /dev/sdb sync

And installed Jessie (without GUI-Desktop Environment).

Then changed /etc/apt/sources.list to use Stretch.

Stretch on USB

Since I already had the Stretch DVD1 on a USB, I got apt to use that
(instead of the usual way of using a web-repo).
I did that as follows:

I inserted the USB with the DVD-image and dmesg showed me that it's /dev/sdb
Then I did:

mkdir /mnt/dvd1
mount -t iso9660 -o loop /dev/sdb /mnt/dvd1/
   ## then I commented everything in /etc/apt/sources.list
apt-cdrom --no-auto-detect -m -d=/mnt/dvd1 add # this put a line
into /etc/apt/sources.list

Then:
mount -t iso9660 -o loop /dev/sdb /media/cdrom # needed for: apt-get update
apt-get update
apt-get dist-upgrade
apt-get autoremove

Then tasksel

Worked nicely!

How do I disable the Caps Lock key, and, how do I disable the left

Yes, I think that 386 Ubuntu Linux images are build with 686 instruction
set compatibility. 386 meaning here x86.

Anyway, you might have a way to force enabling PAE on your Celeron in
 Ubuntu: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/PAE

  Thank you.

That is how I managed to initially install the operating system.

I have not tried, and, do not know how, to apply that fix as part of a
kernel upgrade, and thence, I can not either update, or, add packages
to, that computer, within that operating system installation.

I guess it is now just a permanent bug in Ubuntu i386, if the
problem does not apply to kernels outside Ubuntu.

Here is the message I missed. ;)

Looks like you may have missed the '-- forcepae' part of the 'forcepae --
 forcepae' that signals the installer
to use the forcepae option in the installed system. Or if you did upgrade
 the kernel previously, could still
be a bug somewhere that caused the forcepae option to be lost.

There is a bug report here

 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1307105

 With instructions

*Are you still booting with the forcepae option? If not, you'll need to
 add it.*

 *gksu gedit /etc/default/grub*

 *Make GRUB_CMDLINE_**LINUX_DEFAULT line look like:*
 * GRUB_CMDLINE_**LINUX_DEFAULT=**quiet splash forcepae*

 *Save. Quit. Run:*
 * sudo update-grub*

*Reboot and try the update again.*

Brian wrote:

This problem is as old as Unix.
man pages are too long, tell currently unwanted information,
and lack the example that solves the user's particular problem
(the real one, not the perceived one).

man xmodmap does not directly state that one should do

  xmodmap -e keysym Caps_Lock =
  xmodmap -e keysym Control_L =
  xmodmap -e keysym Super_L =
  xmodmap -e keysym Super_R =

It does not explicitely state how to get the keys back
by exploring their keycode with program xev and after
e.g. having learned that left Control is keycode 37:
  xmodmap -e keycode 37 = Control_L

Finally it does not point to
  https://lists.debian.org/debian-user/2015/08/msg00302.html
by Francesco Ariis which makes a proposal where to put above
commands for automatic execution on start of X.

Only after knowing all this, the reader will recognize that
it was indeed written in the manual.
A corollary from Murphy's law, i guess.

(And who woulda thunk that it is so easy to make your
 X workstation completely unusable ... ?)

Conveniently, what the law requires people to purchase a TV licence for
is not you have equipment capable of receiving television programmes as

And yes, the law does distinguish between broadcast programmes and live

* Emploi de différents timbres de voix ;
* spatialisation ;
* traitements en effets (réverbération, filtres, distorsion, compression,
  etc.) ;
* …
plaisir ^^)

  Inconvénients :
1. Génération préalable et couteuse des indices sonores ;

Strange behaviour with google services - all browsers

2015-08-14 Thread Augusto Morais
Hi.

I`m having a huge problem with the google-hangouts and other google
services (google drive/youtube too).
This problem happens on debian/ubuntu even on live/installed but not on my
Windows.

When I open the gmail there is a hangouts feature but when I try to send a
message to a friend the browser doesnt send(give me a failed message). This
happens in all browsers: chrome, chromium, firefox and native google
hangouts app. This same thing happens sometimes when I go to the
drive.google.com (I can`t navigate through the directories)

What is happening ? I have no idea how to fix it. Could be a vid or audio
issue ? I'm not thing so because I disable all snd* modules in modprobe and
the problem still happening. I didn`t see any message on dmesg/messages/kern

Re: testing (stretch): Partition disks Guided - set up encrypted LVM-- failed

2015-08-14 Thread nice sw123
Hi John,

Or must I install Jessie and then change from there to Stretch??

That is almost always the best way to install Testing, unless your
intent is to help debug the installer.

Ok I ended up doing it like that! (first install a minimal stable
[Jessie], then dist-upgrade to testing [Stretch])

Refnotes
~~

I loaded the Jessie CD image to a usb stick (dmesg showed me that it's /dev/sdb)
## umount usb, then:
cp jessie.img /dev/sdb sync

And installed Jessie (without GUI-Desktop Environment).

Then changed /etc/apt/sources.list to use Stretch.

Stretch on USB

Since I already had the Stretch DVD1 on a USB, I got apt to use that
(instead of the usual way of using a web-repo).
I did that as follows:

I inserted the USB with the DVD-image and dmesg showed me that it's /dev/sdb
Then I did:

mkdir /mnt/dvd1
mount -t iso9660 -o loop /dev/sdb /mnt/dvd1/
   ## then I commented everything in /etc/apt/sources.list
apt-cdrom --no-auto-detect -m -d=/mnt/dvd1 add # this put a line
into /etc/apt/sources.list

Then:
mount -t iso9660 -o loop /dev/sdb /media/cdrom # needed for: apt-get update
apt-get update
apt-get dist-upgrade
apt-get autoremove

Worked nicely!

Regards

 Hola.
 alterna, make make install .

 errores
del tipo version GLIBC_PRIVATE not defined in file ld-linux.so.2

Me voy por otro medio. Usando patchelf modifico bluegriffon-bin

 patchelf --set-interpreter /opt/eglibc-2.19/lib/ld-linux.so.2
 --set-rpath /opt/eglibc-2.19/lib bluegriffon-bin

 Salud!!!

 P.D. Alguna alternativa a bluegriffon?

iceweasel:

iceweasel:amd64 38.1.0esr-3testing ftp.fr.debian.org
iceweasel:amd64 38.1.1esr-1unstable ftp.fr.debian.org
iceweasel:amd64 38.2.0esr-1~deb8u1 stable security.debian.org

2015-08-14 Thread notoneofmy

I'm trying to solve an NFS issue.

The problem is that the client, Debian Jessie, won't mount the remote
file system; the NFS server directories specified in fstab.

But this can be done in Terminal as root.

Errors during boot:
systemctl status (and then the directory of the mount point is given)
DEPEND: Dependency failed for Remote File Systems
And then messages about the mounts failed.

After boot, clicking on the grayed-out mount points in the window
manager gives:

only root can mount (and then the directory of the mount point is given)

An fstab entry is like this:
10.0.0.6:/mnt/MoviesNsuch/music /home/sunny/nfs/music nfs
rw,rsize=32768,wsize=32768,_netdev, no_root_squash,async,hard,intr 0 0

Thanks for your considered thoughts in helping me resolve this matter.

Wheezy NFSv4 callback reply buffer overflowed

2015-08-14 Thread Piotr Kweclich
Hi,

I've recently found on one of my servers, that kernel keeps complaining:
NFSv4 callback reply buffer overflowed

On the client side, system is:
Wheezy 7.8
Kernel: SMP Debian 3.2.65-1+deb7u1 x86_64 GNU/Linux
nfs-common 1:1.2.6-4

Device working as NFS server is NetApp FAS3250.

Problem started just few days ago.
Except for that annoying message, nfs storage seems to be working fine.

I tired finding solution on-line but without any luck,
I'd appreciate any help.

Regards.

We hope spoon-feeding is not part of your anticipation. :)

You've searched and searched. xmodmap might have come up. In what way
were the solutions involving this utility or other techniques you came
 across unsatisfactory?

That information is not obvious and using xmodmap is only one way to do
it. Most desktop environments have a keyboard section in their settings
manager that can handle some of that. The setxkbmap program will also
handle that at a higher level. Use of that is not obvious so it
references the xkeyboard-config(7) man page which is still not obvious.
I handle my configuration with the following line in my ~/.xsession:

setxkbmap -option ctrl:nocaps,compose:rwin,terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp

The ctrl:nocaps converts the capslock to a control key, but there is
also the ctrl:swapcaps option. Most of X11 configuration is still a
mystery to me.

Conveniently, what the law requires people to purchase a TV licence for is
not you have equipment capable of receiving television programmes as they

I know what the law requires. For the purposes of the Act possession of

Incidentally. The tale you quoted and replied to is based on When

happen. The maximum penalty is a fine.

This may well be true. I'm not a lawyer: I don't know. However, the
public perception is that you *can* be imprisoned and so it colours
discussion of the licence fee. For example, here is a quotation by the

Incorrect statements colouring discussion hampers fruitful discussion.

Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, someone involved at
the highest level with the licence fee problem:

“It's actually worse than a poll tax because under the poll tax, if
you were on a very low income you would get a considerable subsidy,”
  he said.

“The BBC licence fee, there is no means-tested element whatsoever; it
doesn't matter how poor you are, you pay £145.50 and go to prison if
  you don't pay it.”

Both the Secretary of State and non-lawyers have access to

   http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2003/21/section/363

Yes, but they also have access to common sense.

You cannot be sent to prison for non-payment of the licence. But you can be
sent prison for non-payment of the fine for non-payment of the licence. So
in effect many are sent to prison not for non-payment, if you wish to quibble
(and this is not a court of law, where one has to quibble), but because they
haven't got any money and haven't paid. It is not too great a stretch of the
imagination and language to call that going to prison for non-payment of the
licence.

Here is what the Guardian said about it fairly recently:
quote
You cannot go to prison for non-payment of your licence fee, but you can be
jailed for not paying a fine imposed as punishment for not paying for a
licence, and in 2012, 50 people were imprisoned, up from 30 in 2009. Of
those, 49 were given a sentence of less than three months; one person was
given a sentence of somewhere between three and six months.

If convicted, you will get a criminal record,
/quote
http://www.theguardian.com/society/2014/sep/24/in-court-non-payment-tv-licence-television-desperate-cases

Then:
quote
Culture Secretary Sajid Javid reports that 10% of magistrate court cases are
for non-payment of the BBC licence fee. Non-payment is a criminal offence,
punishable by a fine of up to £1,000. Every week about 3,000 people are fined
for non-payment, and *about one person a week is jailed for non-payment
of the fine.* (my stars)

Women make up about 70% of those prosecuted and convicted, and half of those
jailed for not paying the fine. When people fail to pay other utilities, such
as energy companies, they are guilty of a civil offence, not a criminal one,
and they cannot be prosecuted and fined for falling behind with their
payments. Civil action can be taken for recovery, but without fines and jail
terms.

Several newspapers have had reporters visit magistrate’s court to describe
what goes on. They all tell harrowing stories of frightened, distressed
people, mostly women, facing fines they cannot pay under threat of
imprisonment if they do not. Many are single mothers, many on benefits. They
have not paid the licence fee because they cannot afford to. The sum of
£145.50 per year is huge for a young mother struggling to feed and clothe
children. Many weep in court, unable to pay the fine for the same reason they
couldn’t afford the licence fee; they don’t have the money.
/quote
http://www.adamsmith.org/blog/media-culture/non-payment-of-bbc-licence-fee-accounts-for-10-of-prosecutions/

Young single mothers are sent to prison because they have not got the money to
pay their TV licences, with the consequences I have already described.

It may not stretch the imagination but the penalty for non-payment of
fines is a separate issue and also part of living in a regulated society
ruled by law.

Women make up about 70% of those prosecuted and convicted, and half of those
jailed for not paying the fine. When people fail to pay other utilities, such
as energy companies, they are guilty of a civil offence, not a criminal one,
and they cannot be prosecuted and fined for falling behind with their
payments. Civil action can be taken for recovery, but without fines and jail
 terms.

If the argument is to have non-payment of a licence a civil offence I'm
not opposed to that. The burden of proof would be lower in that case, of
course.

Oi,

Eu resolvi assim:

   echo options iwlwifi bt_coex_active=N /etc/modprobe.d/iwlwifi.conf

microfone direito. Adicionei as seguintes linhas no
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf:

#options snd-hda-intel model=dell-vostro enable=1 index=0
#
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+question/263452

options snd-hda-intel model=,dell-headset-multi
# laptop-amic Laptops with analog-mic input
# laptop-dmic Laptops with digital-mic input
# alc269-dmic Enable ALC269(VA) digital mic workaround
# alc271-dmic Enable ALC271X digital mic workaround
# inv-dmic Inverted internal mic workaround
# headset-mic Indicates a combined headset (headphone+mic) jack
# lenovo-dock Enables docking station I/O for some Lenovos
# dell-headset-multi Headset jack, which can also be used as mic-in
# dell-headset-dockHeadset jack (without mic-in), and also dock I/O

Abs
