Re: kde install accessibility experience

2017-01-13 Thread Jude DaShiell
I've read a message on another list tonight that kccm needs to be run in
a terminal and the accessibility box needs to be checked before it is
shut down. There was something else that needed starting so gpg would
work too. Some stuff works once all of this is done but kmail does not
yet talk.

I tried it and had an interesting install failure experience.
First going into console and installing orca dependency stack on the kde
installation that had already got done was no problem.
The problem started on rebootand I got the graphical environment running
and I know that because espeakup stopped working like it does in the

several times to set the system date in that calendar dialog and though I
was able to set the date, I found no control or way to close the calendar
dialog and go beyond the calendar dialog to get any of kde's accessibility

helpful exporting before I start up the graphical environment on next
installation try.
Understand, I do my own stuff with computers and do not have sighted

who can see so that's the explanation for this failed kde accessibility

Problem google-chrome Flash Player with http://www.nbcnews.com/nightly-news

2017-01-13 Thread Hugo Vanwoerkom

Hi

The Flash Player that comes with Google-Chrome has become more noisy
with newer versions of Google-Chrome.

In the beginning Flash just displayed the video.

Then it displayed the start symbol that you had to click in order for
the video to start.

Now it displays a puzzle piece with the message to right click the
puzzle piece and then select "Run the plug-in".

That works generally but it fails with NBC News pages. "Right-click to
run Adobe Flash Player" appears overlayed by a rotating circle segment.
but right-click never shows ythe option to run the plug-in.

Can anyone verify this and what is to be done?

SOLVED: Wireless Disconnects, Requires Reboot

It was more of a hardware maintenance issue than a kernel driver issue.

Opening the back laptop cover, removing the mini PCI-E WLAN WiFi board and
firmly re-seating it solved the problem. Also took the opportunity to blow
dry (without the heater element) all the dust inside the laptop.

This will help you next time you want to create a desktop file:

http://standards.freedesktop.org/desktop-entry-spec/desktop-entry-spec-latest.html#basic-format

Each field is important in the file.

Pedro: la gran mayoría de las veces se trata de gtk. Tienes que usar la

debian you are using (i.e. wheezy, jessie, stretch, etc.). Personally, I
have not had this problem at all running jessie. Also, check your log
files to see if there is anything in them that might explain the problem.

What could I be doing wrong?

After upgrading aptly to newest version (0.9.7), the error disappear.

The only changes I noticed are the inclusion of the SHA512 sums in the files

Hello,

After setting up a new apt repository with aptly, signing the repository and
adding the public gpg key to the apt keyring, I encounter a failure during the
`apt update` command:
Err:3 http://#REPO_URL#/#NAME# #DISTRIBUTION# InRelease The following
signatures were invalid: #KEY_ID# Hit:4 http://apt.postgresql.org/pub/repos/apt

can't be done securely, and is therefore disabled by default. N: See
apt-secure(8) manpage for repository creation and user configuration details.

And yet the signature and the gpg keys are good. I succeed to verify the gpg
signature on the InRelease file:

curl http://#REPO_URL#/InRelease | gpg --keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg --verify
gpg: Signature made Wed 11 Jan 2017 04:01:23 PM CET gpg: using RSA key #KEY_ID#

key is not certified with a trusted signature! gpg: There is no indication that
the signature belongs to the owner. Primary key fingerprint:
#GOOD_KEY_FINGERPRINT#

I also verified the Release and Release.gpg file and they seem correct to me.

I tried to find what's done during the apt update with a strace -o /tmp/strace
-ff apt update then grep:

grep 'apt.*key' ./strace* ./strace.29829:execve("/usr/bin/apt-key",

Re: apt-build

2017-01-13 Thread TheFox
Para resolver ése problema tienes que abrir una terminal y ejecutar el
siguiente comando: dpkg --configure -a

sudo apt-get clean all
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
Santiago.

You got to stop saying this! It is annoying!
If you installed the default desktop environment (DE), which is GNOME it
would be as easy. However you insist on doing it the command line way.

So suck it up and read:
Did you already read https://wiki.debian.org/WiFi?
At the bottom of that is a link: https://wiki.debian.org/WiFi/HowToUse
Read that too! It explains the network managers and how you can configure
wlan in /etc/network/interfaces too.

Read it!

And finally the best advice:
http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html

Read the whole thing!

And at the end if you read all this, still have a few questions or your
wifi still is not operable or if you are intersted to configure your wifi
via systemd (which is not yet covered in the official Debian manuals) come
back and ask.

That cannot be, because wireless needs to be set up to figure
out which "wire" you want to connect to.

You can do that, as soon as you connect to an access-point.

Try:

iwlist wlan0 scan
to show what access-points are available

iwconfig wlan0 essid "NETWORK NAME"
to connect to an access-point called "NETWORK NAME"

and then you can do

dhclient wlan0
to get an IP address and probably a default route.

configurations.
But that is not the Point.

I´ve used the Descriptions here https://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/WLAN/ to make my

Have you installed iw?
Have you installed some Desktop Environment, if yes which?
Try start the respective Tool from Command Line?

Why do you use Windows Desktop Tools without complaints and in Linux not?
Have you tried to setup Wifi in DOS? ;-)

(conté dades, pelis i musica bàsicament) voldria intentar algun altre
cosa. Després de intentar mirar-ho al gparted, me diu "Can't have a
partition outside the disk!" i malgrat que veu la partició surt una
 icona d'advertència.

Re: how to config wireless card

2017-01-13 Thread Long Wind
Thank Johan DS!

I enter a command from a
link(https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wireless_network_configuration)
you offer:

iw dev

the screen display nothing, where something go wrong?

In XP, wireless config is easy
connecting cell phone to router is easy too, just enter password
why it's so hard in Linux?
I don't have kde or gnome, is there any GUI tool that make it easy and
not rely on kde/gnome?
the installer may have some nice program that config wireless?
should i reinstall debian??

Not sure, you might try to grep through the files in /etc/init
and /etc/init.d if you find the one that calls apt-get update , then see
which package it belongs to and consider removing that package (or maybe
if possible configure it to leave apt-get alone).
Or, a quick-and-dirty solution that I have been using here occasinally
with services that fail at boot because the network isn't ready yet, you
can try to restart that service (or simply force another apt-get update)
with a line like
printf "apt-get update" | at now + 2 minutes
somewhere where it is sure to be called close to the end of the boot
process.

I think the first solution is certainly the better one, though :-)

Regards

Michael

apt-secure / apt-get update gpg signature invalid

2017-01-13 Thread aRkadeFR
Hello,

After setting up a new apt repository with aptly, signing the repository and
adding the public gpg key to the apt keyring, I encounter a failure during the
`apt update` command:
Err:3 http://#REPO_URL#/#NAME# #DISTRIBUTION# InRelease The following
signatures were invalid: #KEY_ID# Hit:4 http://apt.postgresql.org/pub/repos/apt
sid-pgdg InRelease Reading package lists... Done W: GPG error:
http://#REPO_URL#/#NAME# #DISTRIBUTION# InRelease: The following signatures
were invalid: #KEY_ID# E: The repository 'http://#REPO_URL#/#NAME#
#DISTRIBUTION# InRelease' is not signed. N: Updating from such a repository
can't be done securely, and is therefore disabled by default. N: See
apt-secure(8) manpage for repository creation and user configuration details.

And yet the signature and the gpg keys are good. I succeed to verify the gpg
signature on the InRelease file:

curl http://#REPO_URL#/InRelease | gpg --keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg --verify
gpg: Signature made Wed 11 Jan 2017 04:01:23 PM CET gpg: using RSA key #KEY_ID#
gpg: Good signature from "#DESCRIPTION_GPG_KEY#" [unknown] gpg: WARNING: This
key is not certified with a trusted signature! gpg: There is no indication that
the signature belongs to the owner. Primary key fingerprint:
#GOOD_KEY_FINGERPRINT#

I also verified the Release and Release.gpg file and they seem correct to me.

I tried to find what's done during the apt update with a strace -o /tmp/strace
-ff apt update then grep:

grep 'apt.*key' ./strace* ./strace.29829:execve("/usr/bin/apt-key",
["/usr/bin/apt-key", "--quiet", "--readonly", "verify", "--status-fd", "3",

./strace.29829:open("/usr/bin/apt-key", O_RDONLY) = 4
./strace.29888:execve("/usr/bin/apt-key", ["/usr/bin/apt-key", "--quiet",

./strace.29888:open("/usr/bin/apt-key", O_RDONLY) = 4
./strace.29947:execve("/usr/bin/apt-key", ["/usr/bin/apt-key", "--quiet",

./strace.30006:execve("/usr/bin/apt-key", ["/usr/bin/apt-key", "--quiet",
"--readonly", "verify", "--status-fd", "3", "/tmp/apt.sig.QSyrCg",
"/tmp/apt.data.LK9DGO"], [/* 28 vars */]) = 0
./strace.30006:open("/usr/bin/apt-key", O_RDONLY) = 4

How can I debug and fix this error?

Thanks

An old geezers thoughts on this is that if I see any error fetching the
lists when I do an apt update, or apt-get update, I consider the system
frozen in place until such time as the update succeeds w/o any errors.
And I'll for sure question this list if the errors persist to the next
day. Debian may have suffered a machine failure, and its replacement
might take a day to configure, and possibly another day to get
synchronized, and only then might I update my sources list. But in these
times, there is a high likelyhood of a round-robin setup at the debian
site, spreading the load to 2 or 3 more other machines. So quite often
and update done immediately after a failed update, works fine.

We users appreciate that, very much.

Cheers, Gene Heskett

Hello Michael,

I gave it a try. I unplugged the network and did an apt-get update. This
is throwing all the errors that the repos are not available. But in the
end the next "apt-get dist-upgrade" indeed wants to update all packages
to testing.

So it seems that this is an issue with network not ready while apt-get
update is being performed.

How do I fix this? Where to look?

And thank you for the hint, Michael.
