nvidia-kernel-legacy-source. Dê uma lida na saída do apt-cache show
nvidia-kernel-legacy-source

Bastou remover a placa e o screen e configura-los novamente.

Uh yes I know that, that's why I use the nvidia drivers. Just saying that this

Depends on the card I think. These older cards should be well supported by

The X server contains a package

A good way to debug your XF86Config-4 is typing:
X -configure
Then see
if it starts up. If it does, just look at the file created in the directory
you were in while running this command,
it should have a name like XF86Config.new
or something, and find the differences with your config file (especially
 in the
device section).

Hi,

I had the same problem with the same TNT2 card. I have solved it by deleting the
originally produced file in /etc/X11/XF86config-4.
Then you use the oldfashioned xf86config command as root. You have to know some
basic parameters of your monitor , preferably the horizontal and vertical
refresh-rates. When you don't have them you can chose a conservative setting which is
available in the configscript. Your card identifieer number will be 175 with
probably 3200K memory.
After saving the this new XF86config file you can use : startx.

Good Luck,

well perhaps, perhaps not. if he needs any kind of decent 3d acceleration,
he does need them. if he doesn't and/or using exclusively Free Software
is more important, then s/need/may want depending on your preference/.
also, istr that there are some boards on which the nv driver doesn't work.
or at least there are machines that with the exact same X configuration
and the non-free drivers work just fine, whereas before they did not
with the nv driver (maybe nv is pickier about settings?).

NVidia Riva TNT PCI with XFree86

2002-12-09 Thread Ben Hill
Hi,

I am having some hassle setting up my NVidia Riva TNT PCI graphics card with XFree86
on Debian 3.0 rev0.

I have set up the device manually in the XF86Config-4 as a nv type, but when I try
to start X, it just tries to display, then retrys endlessly.

Do I need to add NVidia drivers? I noticed that there is an NVidia drivers source deb
when I did a package search.

Has anyone set this up?

Cheers,

Ben

Re: NVidia Riva TNT PCI with XFree86

2002-12-09 Thread Wim De Smet
Hi,

This isn't true. These packages are for the nvidia kernel drivers, which are the
nvidia propietary drivers.
The X server contains a package for nvidia cards named nv. This is a free driver,
but doesn't contain any 3d
acceleration. You probably misconfigured the x server somewhere.

A good way to debug your XF86Config-4 is typing:
X -configure
Then see if it starts up. If it does, just look at the file created in the directory
you were in while running this command,
it should have a name like XF86Config.new or something, and find the differences with
your config file (especially in the
device section).

nutzen.

xvinfo sagt: no adapter found.

http://people.debian.org/~cpbotha/xf410_potato/READ.THIS

do testing e instala-los usando o dpkg -i, faça uma busca no

He

nVidia Riva TNT graphics card driver

2001-06-29 Thread Maury Merkin
Could someone please take me step-by-step through the
process of installing the nVidia driver? I am currently
using the SVGA driver with with it but the nVidia driver has
to be much better.

I have v4.0 of X installed. Do I have to re-compile a new
kernel? (No problem I've done that many times, but if so,
what should I be looking for in the configuration?)

Thanks.

Download the tarballs from the Nivdia website go into the kernel module tree
and type make install (as root of course) do the same fro th GLX module. change
your XF86Config-4 file like the readme says and you will be good. Basically go
read the readme and you should be fine.

Just in case it's not obvious... You may have to add the NVidia
kernel module to /etc/modules.

Re: nVidia Riva TNT graphics card driver

2001-06-29 Thread Vineet Kumar
What worked for me, and I think is easier advice, is to

# apt-get install nvidia-kernel-src nvidia-glx-src

Then the kernel module will be built automatically with make-kpkg
modules_image, giving you nvidia-kernel-kernel-ver-ver_arch.deb
, which you can then dpkg -i.

The glx module can be so automated by going to
/usr/src/nvidia-glx-ver and running dpkg-buildpackage -us -uc

All of this information can be found in the README.Debian files for
the 2 source packages.

Good luck, and feel free to ask for more help if needed.

Nvidea Riva TnT and vesafbcon

2001-06-14 Thread André Borman

Hi there,

I read on the net that when a LFB graphics mode is used for the console, a
nice pinguing logo should be shown at startup.

I compiled VESA support etc. into my kernel and added the VGA=ask to
lilo.conf and ran lilo (like it said in
http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/Framebuffer-HOWTO.html), but I can't get this
to work. I'm using kernel 2.4.4. on a pc with an Nvidea Riva TnT w/ 16 Mb
(Viper 550 compatible?), which I suspect to be VESA 2.0 compliant.

Anybody an idea of what i'm doing wrong?

Best regards,

André,

I have an NVidia TNT2 and the following vga= values work for me:
vga=794   (1600x1200)
vga=791   (1280x1024)
vga=788   (1024x768)
vga=785   (800x600)

Unfortunately I forgot the source of that info; probably either in
kernel-source/Documentation or a header file somewhere.

If these don't give you a penguin (and a sharper console font) I would
guess either some necessary kernel compilation variable isn't set of
you're not running the kernel image that you think you are (big help,
right? :-))

Good luck,
Steve Cooper

For one thing, why use VESA framebuffer when there's native riva support?

Compile riva support in the kernel (CONFIG_FB_RIVA=y). Add something like
append=video=riva:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
to /etc/lilo.conf and rerun lilo. The [EMAIL PROTECTED] bit is from
/etc/fb.modes
(though that is a custom mode, tweaked for my monitor; you'll have to RTF file
and pick a mode that works for you).

You need a newer one. You can download a binary of the SVGA server from
nvidia's web site or from one of the Xfree86 mirrors.

I managed to get my Velocity 4400 working with the 3.3.3.1 as SVGA, so you
may want to grab that.

On the other hand, as a public service announcement, after STB was bought
out by 3DFX their customer service for that product went down the tubes.
Four email attempts and a phone call later (on which I was on hold for an
hour) I dropped that card and bought another one. But it worked fine for
basic Linux stuff.

Check the NVidia web site for instructions on building a TNT-enabled SVGA
X server. You'll need XFree86 3.3.3.1 and a library from their ftp site:

ftp://ftp1.detonator.nvidia.com/pub/drivers/english/riva-tnt-tnt2-vanta/linux

There's an FAQ there with some info on setting things up.

A Debian developer has kindly put X 3.3.3.1 for slink at

Then update and install the newer svga server. You can also drop in the

You will need to get RIVA-X-GLX-1.0-glibc-i386-dyn.tar.gz. Although I

Correct me, but I don't think you can run hardware accelerated OpenGL quake

running X, I think. You will need SVGAlib if you want to run Quake with
Glide on a Voodoo based card, though. Glide-Quake uses SVGAlib to manage
access to the mouse and stuff, but soon after you typed glquake the

As I mentioned in another message, the VESA driver with the VesaText

I figured that out too, and despaired, but it turns out that someone
wrote a hack to emulate the SVGAlib/fxMesa calls in GLX. Thus, I should be
able to run GLQuake in X. It even supports a full-screen mode, according
to the docs. I just found out about it today, and I'm going to try it out
tonight.

Are you sure you're using the hardware rendering? The difference between
the software and hardware rendering on the demos is astounding. I'm hoping
that glquake has lower requirements than quake2, so it shoudl be playable.

a little choppy. and i could only get the xserver started in 16 or 32 bpp,
and at 32 i got segfaults. at least its an effort.

That's good to hear. Dave Schmenk (the developer) does mention that
you only get hardware acceleration at 15 or 16bpp in the FAQ. Anything
else, he states, will fall back to the software renderer. Of course
segfaults don't seem like a good fallback scheme! :)

But, I concur, it's a great step in the right direction and now maybe
some of the CAD/FEA folks that I depend on for a lot of my
graphics-oriented software will start considering Linux as a good
platform to target.

Thanks for the reply Steve.

svgalib problem on Riva TNT

1999-03-02 Thread Daniel Elenius
So far in my ~6 months of Linux experience, nothing have so completely
eluded me as svgalib. I've never gotten it to work at all. There was a
time when it crashed my graphics completely, but now it won't even do
that. I compiled version 1.4.0 and the demo programs that go with
it. Most of them say Mode not available.. lineart says Invalid
mode 10, and vgatest says:

Choose one of the following video modes:
Enter mode number (1-0):

(as if 1-0 were the only available modes).
I've edited my libvga.conf to the best of my ability, here's what it
looks like:

Xfree86 and nVidia riva TNT

What graphic server should I use in order to make my riva TNT work with
X?

The problem is that X only starts in 320 x 200 resolution, even with the
SVGA server.

Thanks

Howdy Leonardo

Have you tried setting the default resolution using the XF86Setup? See
what happens... You may have to toy around with the /etc/X11/XF86Config
file to fine tune it...

you need to upgrade to the latest version of XFree86 (3.3.2?). i'm not
sure what the latest version is, but AFAIK the version that's packaged in
hamm doesn't support the Riva TNT chipset in any of the servers.

It's version 3.3.3, and I _think_ that it just appeared in potato. If not,
just grab the SVGA server binary from www.xfree86.org and install it over
your current server binary.

you may also find it informative to have a look at this page:

   http://master.debian.org/~branden/xsf.html

because there's a Great Reorganisation going on with X at the moment --
some of the existing packages were getting a bit unwieldy.

Creative Graphics Blaster Riva TNT

1999-02-08 Thread Emilio Castrillejo

Emilio.

Well, I actually want it because it supports my new AGP Riva TNT :)

If you don't mind using a binary-only version, follow these instructions:
Go to www.d128.com and follow the link to Riva X-Servers. Download the
glibc version. Install the xserver-svga package, and configure it for Riva
128. As root, run the command 'dpkg-divert /usr/X11R6/bin/XF86_SVGA'.
Finally, gunzip the XF86_SVGA.gz file you downloaded and copy it to
/usr/X11R6/bin/XF86_SVGA. Voila! Support for Riva TNT.
