I don't know what are the capabilities of your e-mail client, but in the
event it can handle IMAP accounts, the easiest way to transfer the e-
mails from one MUA to another, is by setting up a local IMAP server and
manually copy the e-mails from one application to another.

As IMAP server handles its own maildir/mbox format, you do not have to
worry about that on the client side :-)

Then, once all the e-mails are transferred or backed up into the new MUA,
you can archive them (if they are not being actively accessed) and
perform any search within the e-mails using standard tools.

Greetings,

IMHO, this does not only apply to _transfering_ between applications but
also to *archiving*. You will be able to access your mails with _any_
MUA and from any computer, as long as both computers are on and online

fichiers courriers reçus portaient l'extension .sdm.

'/home/mapomme/office52/store/monidentifiantpopfreefrpop3.scs'

opening and searching old staroffice mails

2010-01-25 Thread Bernard

Hi to Everyone,

I need to search old mails that I had received through StarOffice 5.1
and StarOffice 5.2. The mail files had the extension '.sdm'. One cannot
edit them correctly with any text editor, StarOffice is needed for that.
Today, OpenOffice.org that I run under Debian Lenny, no longer deals
with mail. So, I made an attempt to re-install StarOffice 5.2 on to an
old computer on which I reinstalled RedHat 7.2, since I doubt if Soffice
5.2 would run on Lenny.

This being done, I don't know how to go any further. I could read my
.sdm files, but most of this old mail has not been storaged under sdm
files, and I remember having been able to recuperate ancient mails from
a file of that sort :

 /home/user/office52/store/myidentifierpopfreefrpop3.scs'

I have found several of such files in storaged volumes (CD and external
HD). But, so far, installing them in my new '/home/user/office52/store'
directory, did not lead to any success. One of this files is 53.4 MB,
and could hold the mails that I am searching.

Would anyone in here have some experience in recuperating old mail files
from StarOffice ?

About 3 years ago, I had asked a similar advice in a Staroffice or
openoffice mailing list, but I had obtained no useful reply.

Thanks in advance for your help

registro do staroffice no xandros

2008-11-05 Thread Hugo Guimarães
Bom dia amigos,

debian eu creio que alguém possa me ajudar.

Agradeço a atenção.

Problem opening StarOffice files in OpenOffice 2

2006-11-13 Thread Bruce M. Ward
Has anybody else found that the Debian supplied OOo 2.0.4 (2.0.4-5) in Etch
will not open StarOffice 5 .sdw files?

I first get a 'Filter Selection' window (as though it hasn't recognised the
file type), I can go select (after hunting for) 'StarWriter 5.0', and then get
General Error. General input/output error.

Funnily, OOo 1.1.5 has no problem opening the same files (therefore it appears
not to be a problem with the files).

Thank you

Re: Uninstalling a broken Staroffice 6.0

2006-05-05 Thread George Langford
My question was:
...How do I uninstall the Staroffice mess from sarge?

Answering my own question after receiving no dire warnings of morasses to avoid:

The ./setup routine that installs Staroffice6.0 uninformatively tells me to use
the local setup routine to uninstall Staroffice. Searching on local setup
routine got me nowhere.

Here's the closely guarded secret: in the installation directory
(/root/staroffice6.0) there's another setup file, called setup, of course, and
one gets the ball rolling with the command, ./setup, while logged in as root to
that directory. Once the script starts, there's a GUI to follow ...
successfully.

I did not attempt to go hunting for orphaned files.

Thanks,
George

Uninstalling a broken Staroffice 6.0 install

2006-05-04 Thread George Langford
Impatient readers can skip to the last line of this message.

In my ongoing quest for a non-MS word-processing package that can handle such
mundane issues as image placement, page numbers, and browser-like navigation, I
dragged a Staroffice 6.0 CD out of storage and installed it on a legacy W98SE
box. That's not the source of my problem.

I then got greedy (wouldn't it be nice to have the same application running on
both the legacy Win98SE box and my debian (sarge) box). I noticed that there
was an uninformative message about glibc ver: 2.3.2 in my Terminal window
just after I started the install as root. The install went OK until I tried to
install the Java Runtime Environment apparently highly desired by the Install
engine. That failed ... I pressed on. Once the Staroffice install seemed to
be finished, I restarted the 'puter and attempted actually to run Staroffice.

The installation process started again, trying to load about a hundred files of
the form, libctl641li.so, libimpreg.so, libdbi641li.so ... I chose ignore for
the first 40 or so, but I grew weary of writing down their names for later
retrieval, and clicked cancel for the next 60. Eventually, Install seemed
happy, so I restarted the puter yet again, only to be faced with a similar
re-run of the installation engine, except that this time it wanted to
incorporate various address lists (of which I keep none of which I know). I
picked one, and the installation process promptly froze. I remembered that
libmozab2.so was among the files that couldn't be found, so I aborted this
final installation attempt.

After Googling both the Sun and debian sites as well as the 'Net in general, I
have decided to throw in the towel and be satisfied with a Win99SE version of
Staroffice 6.0. Sun gives me until some time in 2010 to get it installed
correctly, so I might manage to get used to it by then.

My question is: How do I uninstall the Staroffice mess from sarge?

Thanks,
George Langford

I can't imagine that it would do anything *really* bad. You may run

age of SO5.2. But the necessary packages are probably still in Woody.

Well I think I will try it, when I have solved my font

Why not just upgrade to SO7 or 8 (I think 8 is the newest version)? It
is fairly inexpensive, especially compared to MSO.

I love the integrated Desktop, the mail/news reader with

I have StarOffice 5.2 for Linux, but unfortunately it

important for me, cause it is the program, I use most
often on Windows and OS/2 (4.0 on OS/2, but very similar).

OK. What problem are you having with the installation?

Note that its successors (Open Office) are no solution
for me (no integrated Desktop, no news reader/mail client,
no StarShedule, ...). Especially the news reader would
be important, cause then I could use Debian, to write
my news (I read this mailing list via Usenet).

There are approximately a kajillion (that's a technical term) news
reader/writer programs in Debian. To say nothing of the ones that are
available for Linux but not packaged for Debian.

I know ask, if I simply should try to install it, as
described in the installation manual, or if there may
be problems, perhaps destroying my Debian installation.

I can't imagine that it would do anything *really* bad. You may run
into problems with not having the correct shared libraries, given the
age of SO5.2. But the necessary packages are probably still in Woody.

Has anyone experience with installing StarOffice 5.2?

Why not just upgrade to SO7 or 8 (I think 8 is the newest version)? It
is fairly inexpensive, especially compared to MSO.

New to Debian (Peter): Problem with resolution, sound, installing StarOffice 5.2

2005-07-24 Thread Hans-Peter Sulzer
Hi!

I have just installed Debian Sarge (stable) on my notebook
(Acer Aspire 1363 WLMi, with a Sempron Mobile, an
Nvidia 5200 go Graphic – no shared mem but a real graphic).

It is running :-)

When installing, there was no resolution to choose, when
configuring X11, which matches the native resolution
of my notebook (1280x800), so I have configured a few
others (smaller), the highest 1024x768, 24 bit). How
may I set the X11 resolution to 1280x800? (1)

At first, the sound was functioning, in both KDE and
Gnome (BTW, are there more power full GUIs than these
two? I love the WPS of OS/2, is there something comparable
for Linux). Then I did something in GNOME (something in
Sound there was a checkbox Sound Server – I can't now
look at it, as I write this message from windows on
the same Notebook). Where can I look to solve this
problem. (2)

It would be better, to write my messages under Debian
of course, therefore I want to install StarOffice 5.2
which has a Newsreader (no more included in newer
versions of OpenOffice/StarOffice) – sorry I don't
want to use another one, I have to learn a lot of
other things and the one of 5.2 works fine for me.
Has anyone installed StarOffice 5.2. May there
be any problems when doing it? (I'm afraid, it
won't have a Debian package) (3)

I'm not completely new to Debian, cause on another
PC I have installed Knoppix to hard disk, and even
have compiled and installed a Sinclair QL emulator in
it (QL is the computer Linus used, before he bought
the famous 386-PC). I. e. I know the most important
commands (ls, cp, ...) and have even a little
knowledge of shell scripting. And I have the new
book of Martin F. Krafft, The Debian System.

That's what happens with my OpenOffice.org when i start it with 'ooffice'.
If I launch a specific application (say, 'oowriter' or 'oocalc') without
specifying a filename, an empty document is created. So, you could create
launchers for the individual apps instead of the generic 'soffice'.

StarOffice 7

Hello. Has anyone tried the StarOffice 7 application? Trying
to find out what it's supposed to look like when it first starts.
What I get is a blank window and a menu bar to start applications

running in the initial startup window?
thanks,

Well, it seems SO7 doesn't provide him with an empty, but with *no*
document. Still, I think that's how it's meant to be. At least some
former versions of StarOffice (and maybe OpenOffice) presented a sort
of desktop view from which you could start the individual applications
like Writer or Calc.

The OpenOffice incarnation I have here (1.1.2) also seems to look the
way you describe it. The application starter - or however you would
call it - from KDE only has links to the separate apps (Writer, Calc,
etc). When I start it manually by typing `openoffice' I get a blank
screen with a menu on top saying File, Edit, etc. So your SO7 seems
fine.

Druckerkonfiguration erledigen.
Druckerverwaltung - installierte Drucker - Generic Printer -
Eigenschaften auswählen. Dort unter Kommando dann qtcups oder
kprinter ... auswählen. Wenn das nicht möglich ist, einfach unter
Druckerverwaltung - installierten Drucker - neuer Drucker

be sure the file is executable

chmod +x staroffice.bin

./staroffice.bin

if you have multiple users you may want to run a multi user install,
install as root, and use the -net option (staroffice 5.2 it was /net).
then run setup again as your normal account(s) to do local installs.

if it doesn't work, post what shows when you try, perhaps the file
is curropt and you need to get it again. staroffice 6 is not downloadable
as far as I know ...but openoffice.org is ..

You're almost there with the second one. 'chmod +x whateveritis.bin',
then './whateveritis.bin'. The './' is significant; the execution path
doesn't include the current directory by default, since that would be a
security risk.

Usually the .bin file comes to you with non-executable permissions.
Change it with chmod 755 startoffice_6.bin and then run it with
./startoffice_6.bin (or whatever the filename is).

Polskie znaki w Open/StarOffice

2003-01-03 Thread Zbigniew Rajewski

bash: ./so-.bin: Permission denied

 Was sagt mount ?

/dev/hda4 ist defaults, user

 Oder geht sh ./so-5_2-ga-bin-linux-de.bin

./so...bin: ./so...bin: cannot execute binary file

bekommen, allerdings ohne Erfolg.

if your running debian 2.1 that is slink, potato is 2.2. i'd
reccomend upgrading to 2.2 ..i may have star office that is really
old and may run on slink ..id have to look though.

BTW, 2.1 is slink. 2.2 is potato.

Why not use one good computer as a server with new software and have the old

said you have more than one old machine. Running StarOffice or Mozilla on a

search through these unofficial archives for slink:

StarOffice und OpenOffice laufen nicht mehr

2002-03-26 Thread Martin Troeger

Hallo Liste,

For Linux customers who downloaded StarOffice as several segments:
From the command line, change directory to the directory into which you
downloaded the StarOffice files and run the following:

  Danish: so-5_2-ga-bin-linux-da-000.bin

It's very simple. First you have to tell Linux that this is an executable:
 chmod a+x *.bin

Then you can run it by simply typing the filename.

However, the current directory may not be in your search path. In that
case, simplay add an ./ in front of the filename, so:
 ./so-5_2-ga-bin-linux-da-000.bin

 That's all.

Fontproblem unter OpenOffice bzw Staroffice

2002-03-12 Thread Helmut Peters

Liebe Debianer!

Sonderzeichen wieder anzuzeigen?

Freundliche Grüße an alle

Veja bem: o koffice e uma suite modesta, enquanto o sataroffice e uma suite
completa.

arquivo, e a importacao do
msoffice e perfeita.

staroffice. No notebook a dupla
abiword+gnumeric me satisfaz.
