opening and searching old staroffice mails
Hi to Everyone, I need to search old mails that I had received through StarOffice 5.1 and StarOffice 5.2. The mail files had the extension '.sdm'. One cannot edit them correctly with any text editor, StarOffice is needed for that. Today, OpenOffice.org that I run under Debian Lenny, no longer deals with mail. So, I made an attempt to re-install StarOffice 5.2 on to an old computer on which I reinstalled RedHat 7.2, since I doubt if Soffice 5.2 would run on Lenny. This being done, I don't know how to go any further. I could read my .sdm files, but most of this old mail has not been storaged under sdm files, and I remember having been able to recuperate ancient mails from a file of that sort : /home/user/office52/store/myidentifierpopfreefrpop3.scs' I have found several of such files in storaged volumes (CD and external HD). But, so far, installing them in my new '/home/user/office52/store' directory, did not lead to any success. One of this files is 53.4 MB, and could hold the mails that I am searching. Would anyone in here have some experience in recuperating old mail files from StarOffice ? About 3 years ago, I had asked a similar advice in a Staroffice or openoffice mailing list, but I had obtained no useful reply. Thanks in advance for your help -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-user-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org
registro do staroffice no xandros
Agradeço a atenção. Hugo Guimarães
Problem opening StarOffice files in OpenOffice 2
Has anybody else found that the Debian supplied OOo 2.0.4 (2.0.4-5) in Etch will not open StarOffice 5 .sdw files? I first get a 'Filter Selection' window (as though it hasn't recognised the file type), I can go select (after hunting for) 'StarWriter 5.0', and then get General Error. General input/output error. Funnily, OOo 1.1.5 has no problem opening the same files (therefore it appears not to be a problem with the files). Re: Uninstalling a broken Staroffice 6.0
My question was: ...How do I uninstall the Staroffice mess from sarge? Answering my own question after receiving no dire warnings of morasses to avoid: The ./setup routine that installs Staroffice6.0 uninformatively tells me to use the local setup routine to uninstall Staroffice. Searching on local setup routine got me nowhere. Here's the closely guarded secret: in the installation directory (/root/staroffice6.0) there's another setup file, called setup, of course, and one gets the ball rolling with the command, ./setup, while logged in as root to that directory. Once the script starts, there's a GUI to follow ... successfully. I did not attempt to go hunting for orphaned files. Uninstalling a broken Staroffice 6.0 install
Impatient readers can skip to the last line of this message. In my ongoing quest for a non-MS word-processing package that can handle such mundane issues as image placement, page numbers, and browser-like navigation, I dragged a Staroffice 6.0 CD out of storage and installed it on a legacy W98SE box. That's not the source of my problem. I then got greedy (wouldn't it be nice to have the same application running on both the legacy Win98SE box and my debian (sarge) box). I noticed that there was an uninformative message about glibc ver: 2.3.2 in my Terminal window just after I started the install as root. The install went OK until I tried to install the Java Runtime Environment apparently highly desired by the Install engine. That failed ... I pressed on. Once the Staroffice install seemed to be finished, I restarted the 'puter and attempted actually to run Staroffice. The installation process started again, trying to load about a hundred files of the form, libctl641li.so, libimpreg.so, libdbi641li.so ... I chose ignore for the first 40 or so, but I grew weary of writing down their names for later retrieval, and clicked cancel for the next 60. Eventually, Install seemed happy, so I restarted the puter yet again, only to be faced with a similar re-run of the installation engine, except that this time it wanted to incorporate various address lists (of which I keep none of which I know). I picked one, and the installation process promptly froze. I remembered that libmozab2.so was among the files that couldn't be found, so I aborted this final installation attempt. After Googling both the Sun and debian sites as well as the 'Net in general, I have decided to throw in the towel and be satisfied with a Win99SE version of Staroffice 6.0. Sun gives me until some time in 2010 to get it installed correctly, so I might manage to get used to it by then. My question is: How do I uninstall the Staroffice mess from sarge? New to Debian (Peter): Problem with resolution, sound, installing StarOffice 5.2
Hi! I have just installed Debian Sarge (stable) on my notebook (Acer Aspire 1363 WLMi, with a Sempron Mobile, an Nvidia 5200 go Graphic no shared mem but a real graphic). It is running :-) When installing, there was no resolution to choose, when configuring X11, which matches the native resolution of my notebook (1280x800), so I have configured a few others (smaller), the highest 1024x768, 24 bit). How may I set the X11 resolution to 1280x800? (1) At first, the sound was functioning, in both KDE and Gnome (BTW, are there more power full GUIs than these two? I love the WPS of OS/2, is there something comparable for Linux). Then I did something in GNOME (something in Sound there was a checkbox Sound Server I can't now look at it, as I write this message from windows on the same Notebook). Where can I look to solve this problem. (2) It would be better, to write my messages under Debian of course, therefore I want to install StarOffice 5.2 which has a Newsreader (no more included in newer versions of OpenOffice/StarOffice) sorry I don't want to use another one, I have to learn a lot of other things and the one of 5.2 works fine for me. Has anyone installed StarOffice 5.2. May there be any problems when doing it? (I'm afraid, it won't have a Debian package) (3) I'm not completely new to Debian, cause on another PC I have installed Knoppix to hard disk, and even have compiled and installed a Sinclair QL emulator in it (QL is the computer Linus used, before he bought the famous 386-PC). I. e. I know the most important commands (ls, cp, ...) and have even a little knowledge of shell scripting. And I have the new book of Martin F. Krafft, The Debian System. Well, it seems SO7 doesn't provide him with an empty, but with *no* document. Still, I think that's how it's meant to be. At least some former versions of StarOffice (and maybe OpenOffice) presented a sort of desktop view from which you could start the individual applications like Writer or Calc. The OpenOffice incarnation I have here (1.1.2) also seems to look the way you describe it. The application starter - or however you would call it - from KDE only has links to the separate apps (Writer, Calc, etc). When I start it manually by typing `openoffice' I get a blank screen with a menu on top saying File, Edit, etc. So your SO7 seems fine. Thanks for the info. Just making sure that the installation was correct. It is a blank window, not an empty document.

Packen bringt nichts (3 MB weniger).
