Re: [Declude.Virus] Template options

2003-01-20 Thread R. Scott Perry

I hope you understand when I say.. its hard for me to concieve of renewing a
support agreement when your product isn't even fully documented..

The problem here is that there are some options that we added typically for
individual users at their request, which are available in the latest
released version, but aren't advertised yet. Although it would be nice to
have the manual reflect all options that are available in the latest
release, we can't always do that (for example, there are sometimes features
that are in a released version that are still in beta testing that do not
get added to the manual).

In this case, we are planning to add a new section to the manual that
summarizes all the new options that can be used in the *.eml files, rather
than having them in separate locations in the manual.

I really like your software.. thats why I bought all of them for my server..

Thank you.

but after a year.. I still don't see a link to the manual on your website..
you have to know where it is...

That is intentional, not a mistake. That's a policy issue.

and beyond installing it and turning it
on... I don't see much documentation on making it do more checks like I see
referenced here on this list...

The main reason for that is that this list is also used to discuss the
latest beta versions, which often have new features that aren't found in
the manual yet. If there is anything that you think is missing from the
manual, please let me know so that we can take care of it.

We do occasionally hear from people that the manuals are lacking, but we
rarely hear specifics as to what should be added/changed.

Re: [Declude.Virus] Missing Manual Stuff (WAS Template options)

2003-01-20 Thread Bob McGregor
a good idea (at least I think so) is to add the %VERSION% variable to the
postmaster.eml sent to your postmaster. That way you always can check what version
you have by looking at one of your postmaster emails.

example:
Declude %VERSION% caught a virus.

The declude.exe file isn't meant to be run manually, as IMail may start it
in an undefined way. In this case, you can type \IMail\Declude -diag to
get the diagnostics, which include the version that you are running.

It will be added to the manual shortly. :)

WOW!.. incredible response time... Many, Many thanks Scott.. It is very
useful.

One question and 3 suggestions
Q: For the SKIPIFRECIP option, I should use one option per domain.Right ?
Example:
SKIPIFRECIP @domaina.com
SKIPIFRECIP [EMAIL PROTECTED]
SKIPIFRECIP @domaind.com

Suggestion: In the SKIPIFRECIP usage you should consider adding the per
domain case according to the release notes:

Now, the usage is as follows (in the online manual):
SKIPIFRECIP [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I suggest something like:
SKIPIFRECIP [EMAIL PROTECTED]
or
SKIPIFRECIP @example.com
---
same goes for SKIPIFSENDER option

Also in the introductory test of the options list (online manual), it says:

With Declude Virus, you can also restrict who the notification is sent to,
using certain commands in the E-mail template files. Each command needs to
be on a line by itself. The available commands are:

I suggest (see suggestion between ******):

With Declude Virus, you can also restrict who the notification is sent to,
using certain commands in the E-mail template files. Each command needs to
be on a line by itself. ***Make sure to add the options to the beginning
(before the first blank line) of any of the \IMail\Declude\*.eml files.***
The available commands are:

Perhaps you can place a link to a .eml example, so users understand how to
use the commands

I hope it helps.. best regards to the best Email AntiVirus/AntiSpamming Team

Re: [Declude.Virus] Template options

2003-01-20 Thread R. Scott Perry

Q: For the SKIPIFRECIP option, I should use one option per domain.Right ?
Example:
SKIPIFRECIP @domaina.com
SKIPIFRECIP [EMAIL PROTECTED]
SKIPIFRECIP @domaind.com

That is correct.

I suggest something like:
SKIPIFRECIP [EMAIL PROTECTED]
or
SKIPIFRECIP @example.com
---
same goes for SKIPIFSENDER option

Actually, those will work for the SKIPIFRECIP and SKIPIFSENDER options (the
manual will be updated shortly to reflect this).

Thanks for the suggestion -- that will get included. :)

Perhaps you can place a link to a .eml example, so users understand how to
use the commands

Good idea -- we now have a sample .eml file displayed in the manual in that
section.

[Declude.Virus] Viruses slipping thru after move to new server....

2003-01-20 Thread Jason Newland
Hello everyone,

This weekend we moved our mail server to a new machine and now we have
had Klez slip through our mail system (and many more I assume).

The new box is running w2k, Imail 7.13, Declude ver 1.62, and McAfee
Netshield on the server (engine version 4.1.6 and the latest dat files).
I have duplicated the setup from the original mail server, and can't
find any anomolies, but I would appreciate it if you all could point me
in the right direction as what I should check(by the way, declude
and scan.exe are spawning when an e-mail goes thru, but the only admin
e-mails I get from declude are the 'vulnerability' e-mails that get
scanned.)

Thanks in advance!

Jason

Usually, the first things to check are [1] Whether the eicar.com file gets
caught from our Test Mail Sender at http://www.declude.com/tools , [2]
Checking the diagnostics (\IMail\Declude -diag) for any problems (such as
an invalid activation code), and [3] Checking the log file for any
warnings/errors. But, given your information, I can guess #1 and #2, and
you may have already checked the logs.

Have you tried running the scan.exe program from a command prompt, to see
if it catches the eicar.com file? Do you have a VIRUSCODE 13 line in the
\IMail\Declude\virus.cfg file? Is the SCANFILE line in the virus.cfg file
the same as the one in the manual (a different path to scan.exe is OK)?
