Re: [libreoffice-design] Mime Type Icons Redesign Proposal

2015-11-12 Thread Paulo José Amaro
Just finished the 132 icons for the main applications and templates: 11
unique icons in 6 sizes (16, 32, 48, 64, 96, and 128 px) and 2 versions of
color (default and high contrast). I included the new sizes of 64px and
96px because they are common today in most OS's (i.e. default icon in
Nautilus are now 64, 96 and 128 px).

Default color:

High contrast:

Re: [libreoffice-design] Mime Type Icons Redesign Proposal (w/ links)

2015-11-06 Thread Paulo José Amaro
@Bastián, sorry, I was referring to this part "I think it would be great if
you could present a complete set, it would be easier to try and adopt it in
LibreOffice". Are you suggesting I should do a complete new icon set?

By the way, I didn't know there are multiple icons set being developed
right now. I'm happy to see such engaging in this area. I'm still trying to
follow the issues on the icons development, but I must to confess that so
many time being away made the things a bit slower for me. If you (or
someone else) could point me a particular task I will be glad.

Cheers

@Bastián I did these 128px versions as a conceptual proposal to discussion,
but I'm available to keep going and redo another icons, or any design talks
I'm able to.

When you say "complete set", did you talk about redo all the interface
icons? Because I like the current ones (

[libreoffice-design] Mime Type Icons Redesign Proposal (w/ links)

2015-11-06 Thread Paulo José Amaro
Hi everyone,

Some years ago (2011) I did help the redesign of the mime type icons, just
adding some effects to the original ones created mainly by Christoph Noack.
More in https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/User:Paulojose

Since then I've been away from the LibreOffice design team, but today I had
a feeling to resume my contribution work and to create a new version for
these icons that I love so much. I tried to keep them close to the old ones
in terms of shape and elements, just adapting some forms, colors, and the
overall style.

Above row are application icons, and below the template icons. Against a
dark and a light background:
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/images/e/e4/Mime_Type_Icons_Redesign_Proposal_2015-11-06_v1_Dark_BG.png
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/images/b/b0/Mime_Type_Icons_Redesign_Proposal_2015-11-06_v1_Light_BG.png

Sorry if it's not appropriate for the current development time, I just
wanna share it with you and put myself available to work again on the
design team if you want me to. ^_^

Best Regards!

Since then I've been away from the LibreOffice design team, but today I had
a feeling to resume my contribution work and to create a new version for
these icons that I love so much. I tried to keep them close to the old ones
in terms of shape and elements, just adapting some forms, colors, and the
overall style.

Sorry if it's not appropriate for the current development time, I just
wanna share it with you and put myself available to work again on the
design team if you want me to. ^_^

Best Regards!

[libreoffice-design] Sorry

2011-05-01 Thread Paulo José Amaro
Hi everybody,

First all, I'm sorry for have being away from here the last month. This was
a very busy time for me in my university. I'm sure this list can keep going
totally well without my contribution, but maybe some emails can stay waiting
my response and I'm sad about to have to say that I'm not replying them.
But now my situation is a little more complicated. My computer (laptop) is
definitely broken by superheating and then I'm unable to access internet and
any computer from home, but just here in the university. So until I can
solve this issue, I'm absenting myself from these discussions. :_{

Thank to all for understanding my position. By the way, I'm very proud to
see our icons featured on the Ubuntu official page! Did you see that?
http://www.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/features/office-applications. Congratulations,
guys!

Re: [libreoffice-design] Re: [libreoffice-design] LibreOffice Icons

2011-04-17 Thread Paulo José Amaro
Hi,

Sorry for replying too late. I'm without internet access in home again, but
at university, in the weekends, Im can use a little. :-)
Shorting the discussion, we need higher versions to Tango and Galaxy
mimetype icons, right? Ok, I think I can help on it. I'll look in the
Bugzilla and see what I can to do.

A question not very related to, anyway (sorry if it was already replied):
Why can't we use SVG files to icons, otherwise bitmap converted ones? I know
Ubuntu support SVG icons and they don't lost quality on resizing. Would it
because other operational systems?

 ~Paulo

Sorry for replying too late - also this is not the actual reply. But I need

By now, thank you very very very much for doing these additions and I'll be

THIS + Sylvian's idea would be INSANE! I think this would be one of the best
features I ever seen in an office suite.

You could include these ideas in the HTML/javascritp mock-up, then we could
receive user feedback directly. I'm sure it would give good results. I can
help with quick users tests.

Actually? Never mind... (-: So it seems to make the development work to add
it to status bar a lot easier!

You're right at all. It is not required to do instantly. Actually it could
be easy to be implemented, so I'll include it in the step 2 of remaking of
Status Bar. It's great! :-D

By the way, I finally started the wiki page about this:
http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Design/Writer_Status_Bar_Remaking
I've a doubt about the "Remaking", so if this word can be replaced by
another one more appropriated, don't think twice)

[...] Definitively a god idea, but I think there is no need to hurry.

Oh... I'm not confident about it. I think I'm not the right person to help
on the motif task. At least to creating a proposal. But I'm giving my
comments and suggestions soon I can.

 > [...] Someone know a easy way to upload the HTML code and change it in
> > a collaborative way (Like Etherpad or Google Docs was to text)? [...]

So... I did no discovers about how to do that. Then I choosed to use
Dropbox, so I can share the folder with everyone that want to help editing
the HTML and make proposals, in meantime showing the page to everyone
publicly.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5107072/HTML%20mockups/Status-Bar-HTML-Version-Step-1.html

Just to remember: It's just HTML and CSS, so if someone could help me with
javascript (jQuery if it's possible) to improve menus and mplement state
changes, I'll be glad!

Now the next step is evaluating Status Bar items. I'll do some user tests
here in university to validate the new item arrangement and make it
justifiable from UX POV. *Bernhard*, I'd like to ask your help here, if
you'll have time.

But no hurry at all. :-D

Have a great week, Design gentlemen,

Although, it's just because the kerning seems to be out of place without the

Hi Sylain,

It's very very nice! The interative mockup is a good approach to show the
workflow you are purposing. But I was thinking: how can I resize the
left/top borders? Would you include an "move" option to the object inside to
make it possible?(I don't know if I've been clear with my - not good -

Re: [libreoffice-design] Status Bar changes

2011-03-14 Thread Paulo José Amaro
Hi Christoph, Rick, all

Thank you, Christoph! I'll include these buttons in the mockup.

Rick, this is probably a great idea. I personally would like it a lot!
Although, It may implicates some language problems, like "how to count"
words in different languages, or even performance problems. Imagine the
delay to count each word when you past (or delete) a long text once. Of
course, i'm speculating about it. The real problems may be different, but
I'm sure it'll require a wide work.

We could join every ideas about the Status Bar change in a wiki page to make
it easier to know the current progress. I'm purposing make the changes in
small steps (or versions), where each step could be a "section" in the page,
so the developers can follow these steps in a efficient way. I think I'll be
able to create the page tonight, but all are invited to join.

By the way, I did a HTML mockup, so will be simple to purpuse ideas and see
them "implemented". For now it's just CSS working, but I think we could
include some javascript (with jQuery) to make it interactive, eg. to create
functional menus. I can't upload it now because the FTP is blocked at
university. Someone know a easy way to upload the HTML code and change it in
a collaborative way (Like Etherpad or Google Docs was to text)? I'll try to
find a solution before upload it to wiki (that seems to be the hardest way
to work on it).

~Paulo

Hi Nik!

Wow, your last proposals are actually great! I still don't feel the "motif"
feeling, but I think all them (specially the 6th) should be officially used
in our work. They have quality enough to this, but still are too general to
make me think on "LibreOffice" when I see them. But I think they are very
promissing and define good approach to our motif!

Just now some ideas are coming to my mind and if I'd have time tonight I'll
make some proposals based on yours.

By the way, I'm very excited to comment on the others motif's proposals.
This page is becoming a place full of good ideas! :-D

Re: [libreoffice-design] ligatures in the logo [was: LibO logo]

2011-03-01 Thread Paulo José Amaro
Hi Johannes!

Sadly I can't see any image from the imageshack server. Could you add to the
wiki? I'm actually curious about your friend's proposal.

And with "sharpening filter" I mean this one
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unsharp_masking or another GIMP plugin to sharp
image's edges (IMO, the best is the Inverse Diffusion of GIMP's GMIC
plugin). They can be used to correct some kerning problems on the final
generated bitmaps.

Re: [libreoffice-design] MimeType icons: final run!

2011-02-02 Thread Paulo José Amaro
No, my detailing in the Jaron gear was not good, actually. Use your version,
I insist. :)

And there's a portuguese expression that says: "The hurry is enemy of the
perfection"... So I uploaded my latest file to the wrong file in the wiki...
Sorry for that, I already restored the right version of the Initial icons
and i'm uploading my current version - now - in the right place. *shame*
