[Bug 194982] [NEW] Option to disable creation of desktop icons for network shares accessed through nautilus
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus Hardy Alpha 5 nautilus 1:2.21.91-0ubuntu3 When accessing a network share via the Alt-F2 run dialog using smb://server/share a desktop icon is created for the network share if that share requires authentication. When browsing after connecting via smb://server no icon is created. After entering a shared folder that requires authentication a desktop icon is created for the share, returning to smb://server and entering another share that requires authentication creates another icon on the desktop. After creating two network shares that do not require authentication I have confirmed that the desktop icon for the un-authenticated share is also created for each share on the server. A desktop icon is also created when accessing the same shares by IP rather than the servers windows hostname. I cannot confirm this behaviour when accessing sftp/ssh servers as this functionality currently appears to be broken. This feature may be useful for those who access a few shares regularly however I access a large number of smb network servers on a daily basis each with a significant number of shares and creating a desktop icon for each share that I access quickly clutters the desktop often covering other more important icons and is more of a hindrance than a help as only a small number of these servers are accessed with any regularity and 'unmounting' sledom accessed shares quickly becomes annoying. As such I would like the option to disable the automatic creation of these desktop icons for accessed shares. Perhaps this option could be implemented through the use of an associated gconf key or the old behaviour reimplemented such that these 'shortcut' icons are only created when the connect to server option is used from the Places menu or associated gnome panel applet rather than for every share accessed via nautilus. It seems, although I cannot be sure, that this functionality may have introduced an additional delay when accessing authenticated shares as I received the dialog Opening 'Share' you can cancel this operation... Once again I cannot be sure that this is associated with the new default behaviour of adding the desktop shortcut. ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Option to disable creation of desktop icons for network shares accessed through nautilus https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/194982 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Public bug reported: Binary package hint: totem Obtained the following when attempting to run from the command line: The program 'totem' received an X Window System error. (Details: serial 42 error_code 8 request_code 140 minor_code 14) (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously; that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it. [Bug 194987] Re: Totem quits on startup due to X Window System error
Hi I should note that I'm actually running Xubuntu instead of ubuntu Also, I tried running totem with the vesa drivers and those seemed to work. I also tried the 'radeon' driver (open source one) and that doesn't support cards past the X850 era (currently running on a Mobility Radeon X1400) so X didn't get off the ground with that one. I should also note that totem worked fine under the 'fglrx' driver until a few days ago when I re-installed Xubuntu from scratch. -- Totem quits on startup due to X Window System error https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/194987 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to totem in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 195035] [NEW] rhythmbox won't play a specific track if crossfading is activated

[Bug 136608] Re: [gusty Tribe5]Totem wrong subtitles synchronization
Hi, Charles. I've tested the subtitles problems on a final version of Gusty with all the updates installed. It seems that the bad synchronization of the subtitles (displayed too late and not synchronized with audio and video) is still present in Totem 2.20.0. However, it doesn't take place in every *.avi movie as reported before. Subtitles are displayed incorrectly in one of the five movies or so. The same subtitles are displayed well in Windows and with SMplayer in Ubuntu, though. I'll test it in Hardy when the next Alpha version is out as I had some verid problems with downloading repositories with Alpha 5 (the system was in fact unusable). -- [gusty Tribe5]Totem wrong subtitles synchronization https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/136608 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 195063] [NEW] [hardy] file-roller silently omits files upon .tar(.gz, .bz2) creation
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: file-roller The current version (GNOME file-roller 2.21.91) of file-roller omits files when creating tar-archives out of folders containing many files. This can cause data loss because the user thinks that (s)he has just made a backup of the data, but the archive does not contain all files without any warning or error message. This is especially serious since file-roller is used for compression when encryping as one file is requested through nautilus/seahorse. Users might destroy the original files right after encryption, yielding complete data loss. For the internals, please read my comment on http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=487012. [Bug 122208] Re: Mouse sensitivity acceleration settings reversed
I believe these labels are simply wrong / misleading. Under Windows there are two options called speed and acceleration. Speed dictates the linear relationship between movement of mouse and cursor speed. Acceleration makes the relationship non-linear. So rather than cursor speed = mouse movement * speed setting, you have something like cursor speed = mouse movement*speed setting + mouse movement^acceleration However, the mouse preferences under Ubuntu correspond to something different. If you look under gconf, theses two settings adjust motion_threshold and motion_acceleration. Motion acceleration is really speed, and Motion threshold is meant to disregard small movements. Therefore, it seems that the two fields in the mouse properties window should be speed (replace acceleration) and sensitivity (keep the same). Open the nautilus filebrowser, press CTRL+L to get the text-based location bar. Type the path of some file, then press ENTER. [Bug 195125] [NEW] accessability enhancement: 5 min fix?
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gcalctool I just accidentally maximized gcalctool. Slightly suprisingly that I could maximize it. Then I noticed the buttons all got bigger to fill the space. Also cool. Surprising again, but actually perhaps handy. What if I'm (partially) blind? Then I noticed that the font size of the buttons was still the same (size 12?) as when the calculator was a normal size window. It would be helpful, I think, that since the buttons already scale to fill the container size, why not also have the character font scale to fill the button size? If this is /not/ a desirable action, this could be added as an accessibility option. Merits: - this should be an easy fix, perhaps 30 minutes for someone new to the code, or 5 minutes for a regular maintainer. - another bonus for gcalctool. (Accessibility) - if done properly, should not bloat the binaries since font information is already compiled in or shared. Cool. P.S. Sorry if there's extra information attached to this bug.
