[Bug 152851] [NEW] Media Key + Rhythmbox + Screensaver

2008-09-30 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Hello,
I think it is not a bug, i ill blueprint this if I do but:

I have a xps 1330 and his remote control and media keys.

Last night, I have try to listen musik before sleep.
I have launch rhytmbox, try the remote control (this work), but after close the
lid, and so when gnome-screensaver is start, i can't control the media player
(rhythmbox or other really).

My question is could you fix rhythmbox or gnome-sreensaver to be able to
control with media key , remote control will screensaver is running

I think this is not a security issue and too, for example, if you leave
your desktop and somebody come and don't like you musik, it can
pause/stop it...it isn't very important i think...

Do you understand me?
sorry for my english

Thanks :)

[Bug 260765] [NEW] DVD playback does not work anymore

2008-09-30 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

In intrepid DVD playback using gstreamer does not work anymore after
upgrading gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad_0.10.7-2 to gstreamer0.10-plugins-
bad 0.10.8-1.

Totem lists the same entries in the playlist like it did with 0.10.7. It
also resizes the window according to the size of the movie, but It only
displays a black picture (which might be the first frame of the movie)
and it does not play the movie. Totem stays at 0:00/0:14. Also the 14
seconds are clearly wrong. This value is displayed for all videos on the
dvd.

Attached is the output of:
GST_DEBUG_NO_COLOR=1 GST_DEBUG=*:3 gst-launch-0.10 playbin
uri=dvd:///dev/dvd1 gst.log 21
(I cut that log file right before pressing ctrl-c after having this run for a
few seconds, so the last lines should be where it is frozen)

This displays a black window in the size of the movie, but again nothing
is playing.

Since downgrading to 0.10.7 fixes this for me, I tried installing 0.10.8
and removing /usr/lib/gstreamer-0.10/libresindvd.so so the old way of
playing dvds would be used again. This made dvd playback work again, so
I guess the problem is within resindvd.

[Bug 162480] [NEW] [gutsy] Ejecting zip disk works but then gives error messages

2008-09-30 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Running Gutsy Gibbon 7.10 on an Intel Celeron system. After using my
zip disk for read only, when I eject it with Eject command on right-
click menu over zip icon, the disk ejects but then an error message
appears in lower right of desktop. It says that the system is writing
(flush the write buffer) onto the disk and that I shouldn't remove the
disk, but it already popped out of the drive. Soon another message
pops up in the center of desktop saying that it can't eject the volume
(but it already has done it). This is an internal atapi Iomega Zip
100 drive. I haven't tested the eject after writing to the zip disk
yet.

First question that comes to mind is why does the system think it needs
to flush the write buffer onto the disk when it only has done reads.
Maybe it's updating a touched date on the disk? Or maybe this is
simply a bug.

Second, the eject actually occurs before the system realizes it needs to
do the write. This is a bug.

[Bug 123282] Re: LDAP fails. Says it can't find the server, but the server is there and spelled correctly. Works in Windows. Problem is probably with the authentifiaction.

2008-09-30 Thread Arno Teigseth
Remember that sometimes DNS is not properly setup. In my organization
the computer dept has a mixed setup of resolving IP addresses via DNS
and via SMB/NETBIOS/WINS or something samba-related.

I had this exact problem until I tried to ping the address book server
from my linux machine, telling me it couldn't be found. From a windows
machine it was found. One of the internal webservers are set up the
same way - only windows-IP-resolution works, not DNS.

Solutions:
a) Setting up samba and make it resolve addresses for you might help the
situation. If this works it's probably best because it mimics whatever
windows does, and in my case the computer department mostly think windowsy.

b) or, you could add the address book server IP address to /etc/hosts,
like I did and it works like a charm. If you go to Evolution
Prefecences, the exchange account and under Receiving options find
global catalog server name to be nooslse002.sonnico.local, you need to
find out the IP address of that server. I just ran ping
nooslse002.sonnico.local on a windows machine. Now add that address to
your /etc/hosts file:

127.0.0.1 localhost
32.8.8.70 nooslse002 nooslse002.sonnico.local

Bob should now be your uncle. He was in my case; I didn't get the LDAP
authentication failed and when I composed a new message, the lookup
effectively worked. This will break when computer department changes the
IP of the global addressbook server. They probably won't, but we're
aware of Murphy's law.

To developers: Maybe something could be done already in the settings
window, like to see if the server can be contacted at all?

It seems that evolution still downloads emails as I sayd in my second post.
Maybe I will try to test this issue in Intrepid as you say but I don't
understand why many bugs are resolved in Intrepid and not in Hardy. Isn't this
last a LTS distro which should have additional stabilization
(http://www.ubuntu.com/products/whatisubuntu/releases)?
The consistent way should be to resolve bugs first in LTS and not in newer non
LTS, still alpha, distros.

[Bug 76283] Re: duplicate entries for devices in nautilus desktop

2008-09-30 Thread Vincenzo Ciancia
These two lines in the output of mount are probably the culprit

/dev/mmcblk1p1 on /media/disk type vfat
(rw,nosuid,nodev,uhelper=hal,shortname=mixed,uid=1000,utf8,umask=077,flush)
/dev/mmcblk0p1 on /media/disk-1 type vfat
(rw,nosuid,nodev,uhelper=hal,shortname=mixed,uid=1000,utf8,umask=077,flush)

If I run sudo umount /media/disk the wrong icon of course
disappears. Now we have to understand where is the bug actually.

[Bug 276222] [NEW] Guest session and any other session can't be started if compiz is enabled

2008-09-30 Thread Vincenzo Ciancia
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

When I installed intrepid alpha 6, compiz was enabled by default and I
could run a guest session. With recent updates (last update I think 29
september), if I launch a second session - e.g. using the guest menu
entry, it does not start. If I disable desktop effects, then it works.
However, if I start X using X :1 from a console it of course works.

I attach the X server logs, the output from lspci -vvn, and the
contents of /var/log/gdm.

[Bug 34150] Re: Cannot switch between tabs with Ctrl-Page up/down

2008-09-30 Thread Muelli
I'm affected by this bug as well.
It's really disturbing my workflow, since gedit behaves differently from other
apps such as gnome-terminal.
Having that said, I consider this a bug (with low severity though) as it's a
bad and not consistent userexperience.

In order to argue upstream about that, do you have any references handy?

[Bug 276229] [NEW] Xchat freezes while trying to list freenode channels.

2008-09-30 Thread Mickey

I'm using: Ubuntu Intrepid latest revision.

2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy

The version is:

  Version table:
 *** 1:0.24.0-0ubuntu1 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com intrepid/main Packages

3) What you expected to happen.

I expected:

1. Start Xchat.
2. Connect to freenode.
3. Open to list channels.
4. List of all channels on FreeNode to show.

4) What happened instead

1. Start Xchat.
2. Connect to freenode.
3. Open to list channels.
4. Screen turns white and Xchat-gnome is not responsive. Simply it is just
white, remains white.

Possible though:

[Bug 276232] [NEW] Date/Time in 'Messeages' Mail field and Calendars List view not localised

2008-09-30 Thread Richard Rickwood
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Ubuntu 8.10 intrepid (development branch)
Evolution 2.24.0

I expected the date and time to be displayed throughout the application
in a format that reflects my locale settings.

Instead, the date and time in the fields described in the summary (and
possibly elsewhere) are incorrectly displayed as Mmm DD in Mail or
MM/DD/ in Calendars when my locale is English GB (I would expect DD
Mmm or DD/MM/).

Similarly the time is displayed as H:MM AM/PM, again not matching my
local preferences.

If the date time fields are to display values in a different format to
the rest of Gnome then the user should be able to specify that format in
the Evolution preferences. The only option currently is the option for
12/24 hour time display, which is ignored anyway in this case!

Finally, the display of date and time is inconsistent throughout the
application.

Ubuntu 8.04.1 AMD64
Linux set 2.6.24-19-generic #1 SMP Wed Aug 20 17:53:40 UTC 2008 x86_64 GNU/Linux

1. Start Evolution

2. Click File New Contact to create a new contact

3. Enter contact full name and email address. WHEN TYPING THE EMAIL
ADDRESS PUT A SPACE IN FRONT AND AFTER THE EMAIL.

4. Click OK to close contact dialog and create the contact

5. Click File New Mail message to create a new mail

6. In To: field type the name of the newly created contact.

Evolution will auto-complete the field with the email address you
entered at point 3.

Note that THE LEADING AND TRAILING SPACES WILL BE INCLUDED IN THE EMAIL
ADDRESS BETWEEN ANGLE BRACKETS. This will cause SMTP servers to reject
the address (it happens with gmail servers for sure).

When user enters leading and trailing spaces in contacts email
addresses, these should be stripped away by the program.

It's good programming practice to always strip leading and trailing
spaces in any input field anyway.

[Bug 275859] Re: Can't burn DVD disks

2008-09-30 Thread Łukasz Góralczyk
Running the command alone results in the same error (there's nothing
written on DVD disk).

The drive itself behaves strange - for a minute or two head goes back
and forward inside the DVD. Blank DVD disk itself is recognized
correctly and it does work on Windows; sometimes it takes some time,
probably due to fact that Linux leaves the drive in undefined state
which after soft reset, renders the drive unusable (partly).

[Bug 224291] Re: f-spot hangs on exit.

2008-09-30 Thread directhex
Please install the replacement f-spot package in
http://retro.apebox.org/fspot/

It is versioned so that it will immediately be marked as obsolete by
update-manager. Simply run update-manager's update to put back the
Ubuntu package.

This package should be VERY verbose when quitting, telling you exactly
what it's doing:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/tmp$ f-spot
WARNING: The add-in 'FSpot.__DefaultExporters,1.6' is trying to extend
'/FSpot/Menus/Exports', but there isn't any compatible add-in defining this
extension point
Starting new FSpot server
Reloading
item changed
**F-spot uses non-standard shutdown methods, herein detailed
toplevels.Remove (sender);
if (toplevels.Count == 0) {
if (db != null)
db.EmitDown ();
System.Environment.Exit (0);
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/tmp$

Normally, (as detailed in the source code), GTK# applications are meant
to call Gtk.Application.Quit() to clean up and exit - but f-spot instead
has its own code to muck around with running threads then call the
master killswitch.

I want to know whether your hanging f-spot gets as far as
System.Environment.Exit, or if it gets caught on the thread killing run
- part of that question comes from your wapi=hps output showing one more
thread than me. Depending on the outcome, it'll be clearer where to
investigate further.

Your welcome :-) They never end up loading. They rather stay in that
state. I must force quit xchat to fix the issue. Otherwise wait and
wait which likely to load after few hours.

Could you please try to obtain a backtrace by following the instructions on
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MozillaTeam/Bugs
And try to run epiphany using a clean profile in order to see if the problem
comes from one of your extension: epiphany -safemode

Set to incomplete until we have more a backtrace or more info.

[Bug 276165] Re: gimp JPEG image plug-in could not save image

2008-09-30 Thread Rich Wareham
Thanks for reporting this bug. We need a little more information.
Primarily we need to be able to reproduce it on our system. Could you
confirm the following:

  * Opening a file, say 'foo.JPG' and saving it with a different name, e.g.
'bar.JPG', in your home directory triggers the bug.
  * Opening a file, say 'foo.JPG' in your home directory, changing it in The
GIMP and saving it back to the same name triggers the bug.

Also could you post the result of running the following commands in the
terminal:

ls -ld ~/Desktop/
ls -ld ~/Desktop/masks to email/

Thanks

[Bug 273736] Re: Evolution doesn't allow to simply open an attachment

2008-09-30 Thread Sebastien Bacher
the example you attached has Content-Type: application/octet-stream;
name=Anfahrt.pdf Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64, the mimetype
application/octet-stream has no associated application that's why there
is nothing listed to open it, the mailer used there is buggy but
evolution could probably try to be smarter about those

[Bug 242471] Re: displays svg incorrectly (black areas)

2008-09-30 Thread Rich Wareham
Marcus,

Thanks for filing this bug and helping improve Ubuntu. I can confirm
your bug on my system so I'm changing this bug status to confirmed. The
SVG linked to opens in Firefox and Inkscape correctly but not eog.

I would recommend, as Sebastien did, that you open this bug at
bugzilla.gnome.org since that is the primary development location for
eog and librsvg.

[Bug 224291] Re: f-spot hangs on exit.

2008-09-30 Thread Daniele I.
Hi directhex,

Meanwhile, can you tell me what happens if you run a copy of f-spot,
then run f-spot -shutdown in a different terminal window?

It happens that f-spot hangs as usual (here I am using the ubuntu package for
f-spot).
That is what the terminal says:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ f-spot -shutdown
Shutting down existing F-Spot server...
Found active FSpot server: ICoreProxy

Please install the replacement f-spot package in
 http://retro.apebox.org/fspot/

Unfortunately I am on a i386 system (Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU
T2330 @ 1.60GHz), the package is for amd64. Can you provide a i386
version of the package?

[Bug 208440] Re: Evolution stuck filtering messages - will not quit

2008-09-30 Thread Ian Redfern
This problem has reappeared in Intrepid. Evolution gets stuck with
Filtering new message(s) (0% complete) and no more messages are
filtered - it also won't quit, but is otherwise fully functional.

It only happens occasionally, and I have all unnecessary filters
disabled, but I am running Bogofilter and Exchange.

Evolution 2.24.0-0ubuntu1 on i386.

[Bug 276031] [NEW] gstreamer causes webcam discoloration

2008-09-30 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

This is a Gstreamer bug.

However, I get gstreamer does not exist in Ubuntu. Please choose a
different package. If you're unsure, please select I don't know. This
happens with all gstreamer selections I tried.

This bug was reported to Cheese:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cheese/+bug/219998

Next to Totem.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/totem/+bug/274968

So what happens is that after Totem, using gstreamer, opens an OGG
Theora video, webcam output is purplish and discolored across
applications. More info following links.

I'll be glad to submit more information as soon as somebody displays
that they have an interest in fixing/following up with this bug, but I
don't know what information is relevant, so tell me what to tell you and
I'll do so.

Thing is: this happens pretty often - and I'm sure it worked on Hardy
... Maybe Evolution checked for the PDF extension and guessed the mime
type in case of application/octet-stream before Intrepid?

[Bug 272083] Re: Zenity windows appear underneath others

2008-09-30 Thread Steve Beattie
I can confirm that the gnome bug (448946) represents the state of things
as of Hardy/8.04 (zenity 2.22.1-1), but that zenity in intrepid (zenity
2.24.0-0ubuntu1) behaves as the reporter describes, which seems to me to
be an even worse over-correction.
