[Bug 285323] Re: Losing keyboard and mouse control when changing screen brightness with fn + arrow under intrepid

2008-10-30 Thread Bryan Quigley
For release notes:

== Using Brightness Function Key Combination Breaks Keyboard and Menus ==
On some laptops using the function key combination to change the brightness can
result in a loss of most keyboard control and an inability to fully open menus.

If you lose keyboard control do the following:
Ctrl-Alt-F1 - Brings you to a text console
Ctrl-Alt-F7 - Brings you back to your desktop

[Bug 290978] [NEW] gnome-display-properties dialog takes up too much vertical space

2008-10-30 Thread Bryce Harrington
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

The Screen Resolution settings dialog is 558 pixels in vertical height.
Since the purpose of this tool is to change resolution settings, it
ought to be usable on as wide a range of resolutions as possible.

As a minimum, it should target fitting within the standard VGA 640x480
size screen.

Reducing the vertical height from 558 to 480 is doable; this is an
optimization that was made for Hardy by adjusting the widget positioning
and spacing.

[Bug 290995] [NEW] setting http proxy directly via gconf no longer works

2008-10-30 Thread Angryziber
Public bug reported:

Starting from intrepid, http proxy settings cannot be enabled using
either gconf-editor or gconftool-2.

You can modify any of the /system/http_proxy/* values and they got
reflected immediately in the gnome-network-preferences, except for the
/system/http_proxy/use_http_proxy - setting this from outside of the
gnome-network-preferences has no effect, so no applications pick the
newly set values.

However, when using the radio buttons in the gnome-network-preferences
to enable/disable the proxy, the /system/http_proxy/use_http_proxy gets
properly enabled/disabled in the gconf-editor. It appears that gnome-
network-preferences has started doing something else itself to enable
the proxy that is not done when the setting is changed by other
programs.

Intrepid regression: it is not possible to enable/disable proxy from the
command-line anymore, e.g. with a NetworkManager dispatch script.

[Bug 219802] [NEW] Apps stop responding when copying large files.

2008-10-30 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Ubuntu 8.04

When copying large files using nautilus (around the 1gb mark plus) other
applications stop responding. I've encountered this in pretty much all
apps which I'm trying to use simultaneously. They don't crash out and
will continue to work fine once copying is finished.

I would have expected that it should be fine to copy files and use
applications at the same time as my hardware is fairly good.

[Bug 261815] [NEW] undeleting items from trash is very slow

2008-10-30 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Restoring a deleted item from trash takes quite long. It should work
almost instantaneously (as deleting the file).

Imagine you just deleted a movie which is 700MB. This takes about 0.25
sec. You recognize that it was the wrong movie and now you want to
restore it of course. You go to the trash can and because there's no
restore-file option* you just drag it out to where you have deleted it
from. (Try this!) You will notice a moving file progressbar and it
takes about one minute (or 50 seconds or 45 secs, doesnt matter) until
you have your movie back.

The trash should be improved so it does not take longer to recover the
file than to delete it.

*I know that according to http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/60/ there
will be such an option

System:
Ubuntu 8.04.1

[Bug 276134] Re: [intrepid] no prompt to save open work on shutdown/restart

2008-10-30 Thread mimoklepes
I don't see how this could be low priority. For me this is a deal-
breaker and will probably force me to downgrade to 8.04. All running
programs are just killed on logout, thus for example:

Liferea doesn't remember which feed items I've already read.
Amarok doesn't remember current playlist.

These are not very dangerous cases (though highly annoying), but for
some apps this could mean some really serious data loss.

[Bug 285234] [NEW] Corrupted files after tranfer to Nautilus automounted scp directory.

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Ubuntu 8.04.1 AMD64

Nautilus 1:2.22.5.1-0ubuntu1

openssh-client 1:4.7p1-8ubuntu1.2

After transferring UTF-8 files to a remote scp server, they become
scrambled up and unaccessible by simple textreaders like gedit. The
transfer was done by copy-pasting local files in a scp-directory
accessed through Nautilus.

problem.
