[Bug 290506] Re: cheese doesn't show v4l2 video output and disables output on gstreamer-based apps ran afterwards

2008-11-08 Thread Filippo Argiolas
dominko, that's a known issue with your webcam driver please take a look at
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=531835 and
http://bugs.mediati.org/r5u870/issue17

So, am I the only one able to reproduce it both with cheese and plain
gstreamer?

[Bug 295460] [NEW] Firefox forces the NetworkManager applet to reconnect the network

2008-11-08 Thread Christian Roessner
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem-gstreamer

Hi,

it is a very strange behavior, but when surfing with firefox ( Intrepid-
64bit ) for example to www.heute.de and clicking on play in the embbeded
video, suddenly the network gets disconnected and reconnected.

I can reproduce this bug, when ever I retry it.

See the attached picture for details ( URL and which applet ).

I also looked with tail -f at .xsession-errors andcopied the relevant
part to a second file.

I guess, there might be more examples for this bug, but currently I only
can show you this one.

Kind regards
Christian

[Bug 295442] [NEW] Nautilus/file browser freezing at home, user and root folders

2008-11-08 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Machine is Asus A8N-SLI Premium motherboard AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200 CPU, 2
GB RAM, video card is Nvidia chipset (I forget what card it is) 4 SATA
II drives, all WD. No wifi or wireless stuff used, wired FiOS internet.
No other cards in machine. Note drives are not currently used as RAID
array just an OS drive and three data drives.

Occurs with 8.04 and 8.1 versions. Problem only occurs on 160 GB OS
drive, does not occur on data drives. Nautilus (opened in terminal or
with alt-F2) and file browser from the toolbar (Places) both freeze if I
try to access the root, ron (my username) or home folders. If any of
those folders are opened the browser greys out then must be force quit.
System monitor shows one of the cores goes to 100% usage and the process
related to that is Xorg. In terminal nautilus --check shows no errors.
Under Hardy 8.04 the freeze could be force quit but as soon as it quit
the browser would pop back up and refreeze, restarting machine stopped
the cycle but you had to force quit before the machine would restart
(note under Hardy the cores would switch the 100% usage level when the
browser popped back up after force quit). Upgraded to 8.1 and the
freezes still occur but force quit makes it stay quit. Fresh installs
still have the problem.

New to linux from XP so I have no idea how to even start better
debugging reporting. If you have someone that can walk me through
tracing the problem on irc feel free to email me and we can setup a
time. I do not know if this is a potential security issue.

[Bug 157215] [NEW] Synchronizing with a time server does not work

2008-11-08 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

After a fresh Gutsy install, I told the Date and Time applet to keep
synchronized with time servers. It had been an hour off, so I expected
this to set the time right, but it did not. I switched back to manual
time, set the time correctly, and then switched back to the time server
option. The new manually set time stayed.

This tells me that synchronizing with the time server in fact does
nothing.

[Bug 200337] Re: CD/DVD burning problem in hardy

2008-11-08 Thread Arnaud Dessein
I have just tried Intrepid on a LiveUSB
(http://liveusb.info/dotclear/index.php) as I can not burn the LiveCD on
Hardy...

I have been able to burn an entire DVD+R DL using Brasero without any
problem. I have md5sum-checked every files : none of them is corrupted.

Maybe I have found my solution... Do you know why it does work on
Intrepid for me ? Have some important things related to burning been
updated/improved in Intrepid ?

[Bug 290506] Re: cheese doesn't show v4l2 video output and disables output on gstreamer-based apps ran afterwards

2008-11-08 Thread Faulken
I encounter the same problem with my uvc webcam.

The 2 following commands are working fine if I do not run cheese

gst-launch-0.10 v4l2src ! video/x-raw-yuv, width=640, height=480 !
xvimagesink

gst-launch-0.10 v4l2src ! xvimagesink

But, if I run Cheese after the second command, it freezes. If I kill
Chesse, the second command is no longer working. To solve the situation,
I have to run the first command. After that, Cheese or the second
command can be ran without any problem.

I confirm the bug is fixed in intrepid, so I'm marking it as this.

That's all very well, but this bug report was filed concerning Ubuntu
8.04 - Half-baked Heron - so why has a patch not been released to
correct it in that release, which, after, is a Long Term Support
release? Where is the Long Term Support, if bugs like this only are
corrected in a later, Short Term Support, release?

[Bug 221112] Re: Can't use space bar in search bar when using french alternative keyboard

2008-11-08 Thread Antoine Pairet
As far as I am concerned, changing the layout of the keyboard from
French Alternative to French solves the issue. The difference
between the layouts for the space key is that in French Alternative,
it is nobreakspace.

In fact, the default installation select the French Alternative layout
when choosing a french keyboard. I think this should be changed in the
installer.

2008-11-08 Thread IanW
Thank you for your bug report.
Is the issue specific to a single radio station URL? Can you try with other
radio stations?
Please try the command line: 'gst-launch-0.10 playbin uri=URL' (URL is the URL
of your radio feed, of course) . Does it succeed or fail? If it fails, please
post all error messages.

[Bug 80702] [NEW] Keyboard indicator flags are missing

2008-11-08 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: human-icon-theme

Hello,

Gnome's keyboard-indicator applet, has a hidden feature, which allows
countries' flags to be shown instead of simple text such as us.

The option is availabe via gconf:
‎/apps/gswitchit/Applet/showFlags

This feature can enhance the usability for the gnome desktop alot in my
opinion. It's quite difficult most of the time, to locate the applet
with your eyes, so you need to search for it. Using a flag image helps
finding it almost immedietly.

The main problem with this feature is that the flags are missing in the
default Icon theme (or any other theme). So the user has to download it
himself (and edit the images so they will be in the correct dimensions).

Flags can be downloaded from here:

I've been able to reproduce this on stuff that's just on another

again put them in invisible .Trash-1000 folders, which I then had to
clean up from the command line.

Re: [Bug 295339] Re: evolution spam reading error messages

2008-11-08 Thread Louis-Simon Ouellet
Dear Pedro

thanks for your answers. i've been a TRS-DOS user since 1982 and MS-DOS
1984-5 +/- and of Windows since day 1; i just joined Ubuntu last month,
even with my extensive computer experience i'm just a regular user not
very proned to program or debug, i don't mind reporting bugs or things
like that but I need a simpler way of doing it. Ubuntu's philosophy is
for humans and most of us dont know the ins and outs of computer
language; we just expect it to work i dont expect to fix it myself;
otherwise i would not have sent the report in the first place.

Attached is a copy of the evolution screen: everytime i receive emails i
get those little error messages at the bottom; orange triangles;
something about spam filter not working. not a big thing it's easy to
keep using the PC.

thanks again for your time and effort, be sure i will keep using Ubuntu
because i believe in its philosophy and it is a very good and solid
distribution of Linux, probably the best one for 95% of the population.

again tjank you and keep up the very good work with Ubuntu :-)

[Bug 295541] [NEW] [intrepid] fn-F4 on Lenovo 3000 N100 does not suspend the computer

2008-11-08 Thread Johannes Rohr
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

I have recently switched from Debian Lenny to Ubuntu Intrepid. On
Ubuntu, suspend works, but only via left-click on the icon or closing
the lid. The convenient Fn-F4 shortcut does nothing.

I have set the standby key in gnome-keybinding-properties to FN-F4,
additionally, the value of gconf key /apps/gnome-power-
manager/buttons/suspend is suspend.

running gnome-power-manager in the foreground with debug on show that
g-p-m simply ignores the key: Pressing Fn-F4 or Fn-F12 (hibernate)
produces no output at all.

I just wonder what Ubuntu does differently than Debian. In Debian it
works just fine.

I also see no output from acipd, when I run it in Debug mode and press
the suspend key.

I'm attaching the lshal output.

I've corrected that as well.

Here's an updated debdiff.

[Bug 295252] [NEW] Mouse cursor hides when it gets over an image

2008-11-08 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When I move my mouse cursor over an image (e.g. displayed in Firefox
[only happens when there's no html to display but only the image] or in
Inkscape [so I can't even use it]), it hides 'behind' that image.
Changing mouse cursor theme doesn't work. Using Hardy Heron and default
Ubuntu look.

[Bug 260918] Re: needed: libv4l and associated application patches (or gspca stopped working in 2.6.27)

2008-11-08 Thread yasou
Fabian, the bug you have is not entirely based on the libv4l issue. First of
all you have to get rid of zc0301 to be able to use gspca_zc3xx, and then apply
LD_PRELOAD=v4
it is not enough to blacklist, you have to compile a new version of gspca

see here for a complete solution:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/293259

so in addition to the problem with having to preload the v4l1-compat library
for some cameras that might use zc0301, sn9c102 or other non-gspca drivers, the
webcam drivers must be recompiled. Look here for a more professional

[Bug 295638] [NEW] file-roller makes you explicitly click on Desktop to extract to desktop, even if desktop is already focused

2008-11-08 Thread aysiu
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: file-roller

This is actually I think a duplicate of another bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gtk+2.0/+bug/80755 but that
was reported for Feisty over a year ago.

This occurs in Intrepid (sorry I'm late with the bug reporting, but I
have only one main computer, so I can't afford to alpha and beta test
with it).

If I double-click a .tar.gz file, File-Roller appears. Then I click
Extract, and I get the Extract dialogue.

The dialogue focuses on Desktop, but if I just click OK, nothing
happens.

I have to click explicitly on Desktop (even though it's already
focused), and then I can click OK to get it to extract the archive to
the desktop.

Can this be fixed for Jaunty?

I'm using Ubuntu Intrepid 8.10 on an Eee PC 701. Thanks.

[Bug 295644] [NEW] Wishlist: Enable better managing of aliases

2008-11-08 Thread Ian Higginson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I have one main email account and use multiple aliases with it. In order
to get these working in Evolution (i.e. to change the 'From' box to
another name) I have to create a new account just for this. Many email
clients have the option to just add custom 'From' headers without
needing a separate account for each and this would be great if Evolution
had this option.

[Bug 295643] [NEW] eog doesn't apply the page-setup

2008-11-08 Thread Achim
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: eog

Description:Ubuntu 8.10

500 ftp://IP-Adress intrepid/main Packages ()
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

After I have applied the paper settings eog changes the settings to a smaller
paper size.
This problem is not related to the printer driver. I have tested two different
driver.

In the picture that I have attached you can see the settings that I have
applied (1) and the changed paper size that eog applies (2). This
problem also seems to be related to tear-off borders page sizes.

Re: [Bug 282316] Re: erratic elapsed time count in sound recorder

2008-11-08 Thread Balaji
Guys, my initial complaints taken back.

Sound is working perfectly. It even works across virtual machines
seamlessly. It took me a while to configure them and tweak the settings, but
they are fine now. The recording was having a lot of ambient noise, but I
figured that it was the laptop's internal mic that had a very high
resistance.

The one thing I think Linux still needs to work on, is that upon first
installation, things don't work perfectly. Further, upon an upgrade
apparently some problems persist. These should ideally be fixed early on.

[Bug 295535] [NEW] When thumbnails mode is on, and no codec available, Nautilus does not show the file at all

2008-11-08 Thread Ansus
Public bug reported:

When browsing a folder with videos, thumbnails mode is on, and no suitable
codec available, Nautilus does not show the file at all.

The folder info reports the number of files in the folder lesser than actual
number. The file is completely invisible even when all options to show hidden
files are enabled.

From terminal it can be proven that the file actually exists in the
folder.
