[Bug 295442] [NEW] Nautilus/file browser freezing at home, user and root folders
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Machine is Asus A8N-SLI Premium motherboard AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200 CPU, 2 GB RAM, video card is Nvidia chipset (I forget what card it is) 4 SATA II drives, all WD. No wifi or wireless stuff used, wired FiOS internet. No other cards in machine. Note drives are not currently used as RAID array just an OS drive and three data drives. Occurs with 8.04 and 8.1 versions. Problem only occurs on 160 GB OS drive, does not occur on data drives. Nautilus (opened in terminal or with alt-F2) and file browser from the toolbar (Places) both freeze if I try to access the root, ron (my username) or home folders. If any of those folders are opened the browser greys out then must be force quit. System monitor shows one of the cores goes to 100% usage and the process related to that is Xorg. In terminal nautilus --check shows no errors. Under Hardy 8.04 the freeze could be force quit but as soon as it quit the browser would pop back up and refreeze, restarting machine stopped the cycle but you had to force quit before the machine would restart (note under Hardy the cores would switch the 100% usage level when the browser popped back up after force quit). Upgraded to 8.1 and the freezes still occur but force quit makes it stay quit. Fresh installs still have the problem. New to linux from XP so I have no idea how to even start better debugging reporting. If you have someone that can walk me through tracing the problem on irc feel free to email me and we can setup a time. I do not know if this is a potential security issue. ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Nautilus/file browser freezing at home, user and root folders https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/295442 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 157215] [NEW] Synchronizing with a time server does not work
You have been subscribed to a public bug: After a fresh Gutsy install, I told the Date and Time applet to keep synchronized with time servers. As far as I am concerned, changing the layout of the keyboard from French Alternative to French solves the issue. [Bug 80702] [NEW] Keyboard indicator flags are missing
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Binary package hint: human-icon-theme Hello, Gnome's keyboard-indicator applet, has a hidden feature, which allows countries' flags to be shown instead of simple text such as us. The option is availabe via gconf: /apps/gswitchit/Applet/showFlags This feature can enhance the usability for the gnome desktop alot in my opinion. It's quite difficult most of the time, to locate the applet with your eyes, so you need to search for it. Using a flag image helps finding it almost immedietly. The main problem with this feature is that the flags are missing in the default Icon theme (or any other theme). Dear Pedro thanks for your answers. i've been a TRS-DOS user since 1982 and MS-DOS 1984-5 +/- and of Windows since day 1; i just joined Ubuntu last month, even with my extensive computer experience i'm just a regular user not very proned to program or debug, i don't mind reporting bugs or things like that but I need a simpler way of doing it. Ubuntu's philosophy is for humans and most of us dont know the ins and outs of computer language; we just expect it to work i dont expect to fix it myself; otherwise i would not have sent the report in the first place. Attached is a copy of the evolution screen: everytime i receive emails i get those little error messages at the bottom; orange triangles; something about spam filter not working. not a big thing it's easy to keep using the PC. thanks again for your time and effort, be sure i will keep using Ubuntu because i believe in its philosophy and it is a very good and solid distribution of Linux, probably the best one for 95% of the population. again tjank you and keep up the very good work with Ubuntu :-) Louis-Simon Le vendredi 07 novembre 2008 à 23:51 +, Pedro Villavicencio a écrit : Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. [Bug 260918] Re: needed: libv4l and associated application patches (or gspca stopped working in 2.6.27)
Fabian, the bug you have is not entirely based on the libv4l issue. First of all you have to get rid of zc0301 to be able to use gspca_zc3xx, and then apply LD_PRELOAD=v4 it is not enough to blacklist, you have to compile a new version of gspca see here for a complete solution: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/293259 so in addition to the problem with having to preload the v4l1-compat library for some cameras that might use zc0301, sn9c102 or other non-gspca drivers, the webcam drivers must be recompiled. Look here for a more professional description: http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11920 -- needed: libv4l and associated application patches (or gspca stopped working in 2.6.27) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/260918 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is the registrant for ekiga. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 295638] [NEW] file-roller makes you explicitly click on Desktop to extract to desktop, even if desktop is already focused
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: file-roller This is actually I think a duplicate of another bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gtk+2.0/+bug/80755 but that was reported for Feisty over a year ago. This occurs in Intrepid (sorry I'm late with the bug reporting, but I have only one main computer, so I can't afford to alpha and beta test with it). If I double-click a .tar.gz file, File-Roller appears. Then I click Extract, and I get the Extract dialogue. The dialogue focuses on Desktop, but if I just click OK, nothing happens. I have to click explicitly on Desktop (even though it's already focused), and then I can click OK to get it to extract the archive to the desktop. Can this be fixed for Jaunty? I'm using Ubuntu Intrepid 8.10 on an Eee PC 701. Thanks. ** Affects: file-roller (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- file-roller makes you explicitly click on Desktop to extract to desktop, even if desktop is already focused https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/295638 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to file-roller in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 295644] [NEW] Wishlist: Enable better managing of aliases
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution I have one main email account and use multiple aliases with it. In order to get these working in Evolution (i.e. to change the 'From' box to another name) I have to create a new account just for this. Many email clients have the option to just add custom 'From' headers without needing a separate account for each and this would be great if Evolution had this option. ** Affects: evolution (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Wishlist: Enable better managing of aliases https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/295644 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Re: [Bug 282316] Re: erratic elapsed time count in sound recorder
Guys, my initial complaints taken back. Sound is working perfectly. It even works across virtual machines seamlessly. It took me a while to configure them and tweak the settings, but they are fine now. The recording was having a lot of ambient noise, but I figured that it was the laptop's internal mic that had a very high resistance. The one thing I think Linux still needs to work on, is that upon first installation, things don't work perfectly. Further, upon an upgrade apparently some problems persist. These should ideally be fixed early on. -Balaji On Sat, Nov 8, 2008 at 5:36 AM, Hew McLachlan [EMAIL PROTECTED]wrote: I'm not running Jaunty, but the description says alsa-plugins 1.0.18 contains the fix, which means Jaunty should be fine. -- erratic elapsed time count in sound recorder https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/282316 You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber of the bug. -- Balaji -- erratic elapsed time count in sound recorder https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/282316 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-media in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
