[Bug 332426] [NEW] Nautilus jams

2009-02-21 Thread Jorma S.
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

When I enter a specific directory Nautilus just jams. Uses all possible
cpu and must be killed to get rid of. After killing it returns to upper
level directory and works again in other sub directories. ls and dir
commands and Dolphin navigator are working ok in the same specific
directory where Nautilus jams.

Deleted .nautilus file in home directory and tried again but it did not
help.

Ubuntu 8.04.2

Looking ahead the how do you decide the last part of

i.e where does the .1 show up or how do you decide it.

[Bug 230749] Re: gnome-screensaver uses too much CPU

2009-02-21 Thread MMarking
Wow, I'm so happy I found this! I had exactly the same problems as you
with VLC and MythTV. I've been spending weeks on this issue blameing
everyone from MythTV, nvidia, Liferea, firefox, Xorg, and pulseaudio...
I even spent time swapping video cards and drivers. My eyes finally
opened up and realized that gnome-screensaver was the number 5 CPU time
on my system, and I don't even use a screensaver. killall gnome-
screensaver is the perfect interim solution to these Xorg CPU spike
problems. Thanks to all that reported, confirmed, and upstream fixed
it. Go Linux!!

In case anyone web searches for this problem in Myth, like I was trying
to do for 2 weeks, if you are having jerky playback in Myth (with Myth's
internal player) and see messages similar to the following when you run
mythfronend -v playback:

NVP: Video is x. frames ahead of audio, doubling video frame
interval to slow down.

NVP: Video is x.x frames behind audio (too slow), dropping frame to
catch up.

If you use a nVidia card with the proprietary drivers, and you're
running Ubuntu with Gnome, then gnome-screensaver is actually what's
causing your problem. killall gnome-screensaver is your friend.

[Bug 289241] Re: Gnome-panel freezes when starting an application on the secondary display

2009-02-21 Thread Oliver Herrmann
Hey there, not for now i think ...

Im working around the Problem with starting Applications through the

Right now many things change in Open Source Software and many work is to
be done by Canonical ...

Here is a German Link - http://www.golem.de/0902/65175.html

They talk about many changes in GUIs like Gnome and KDE... so maybe this
Bug will still hold a while.

2009-02-21 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instuctions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be
dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch
nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on
the crash report you wish to submit.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 330166] [NEW] terminal bell causes wallpaper to flicker (or redraw, adding a noticable delay)

2009-02-21 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When using tab-completion, or otherwise triggering the terminal bell,
the wallpaper switches to white and is then forced to redraw. This
occurs with every beep and adds a substantial set of delays for someone
who is tab-happy.

By disabling the terminal bell in gnome-terminal, this behavior is
eliminated.

I found this setting checked in gconf:
/apps/compiz/plugins/fade/screen0/options/fullscreen_visual_bell

I disabled that setting (and re-enabled the terminal bell in gnome-
terminal) and the problem went away, but I'm using metacity (because
i865 will fail from compiz to metacity) so something else is honoring
that setting and it is not obvious where I should go to disabled this.

I am currently using the most up-to-date Jaunty:

gnome-terminal 2.25.5-0ubuntu2
metacity: 1:2.25.144-0ubuntu1
compiz: 1:0.7.9+git20090211-0ubuntu4
xserver-xorg-video-intel: 2:2.6.1-1ubuntu2
xserver-xorg: 1:7.4~5ubuntu12

I don't see anything related in the ~/.xsession-errors or gdm/:0.log
files.

[Bug 332512] [NEW] LastFM - only plays the first song

2009-02-21 Thread Jonathan Lumb
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

If there are currently songs listed in the Rhythmbox now playing
playlist, when you play songs from LastFM Rhythmbox will only play the
first song in the LastFM list of songs before switching back to playing
songs from the main Rhythmbox playlist. Only when you clear the main
rhythmbox now playing playlist will rhthmbox play songs from Lastfm
continuously. Whilst this is not a 'bug' as such, something needs to be
done about it as the behaviour is unexpected - most users would expect
for Rhythmbox to play items from LastFM continuously regardless.

[Bug 297849] [NEW] Clock/Calander/Locations panel exceeding the right margin of the screen

2009-02-21 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When clicking on the clock at the top panel there is a vertical panel that is
dropped down.
I added a few locations and noticed that when mouse hovered over some of the
location the whole panel is being pushed to the right in a way that part of it
is hidden (Manchester/New York).

see the attachment below.

The reason I can see for this is that when the location name his long,
the 'Set' button which located just next to it cause the panel to get
wider so there would be a room for both of them on the same line.

[Bug 297849] Re: Clock/Calander/Locations panel exceeding the right margin of the screen

2009-02-21 Thread Paul Broadhead
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important
for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn
more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a
bug in gnome-panel.
For future reference you might be interested to know that a lot of applications
have bug reporting functionality built in to them. This can be accessed via the
Report a Problem option in the Help menu for the application with which you are
having an issue. You can learn more about this feature at

Yes, the problem's still here.

I really don't want to upgrade my Dell 1525n to a later Ubuntu release until
Dell gets around to making its modifications -- I run into trouble even with

upgrading that machine to whatever the bleeding edge Ubuntu is and report

[Bug 325688] [NEW] Move to workspace [DIR] doesn't work with many rows / cols

2009-02-21 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I've setup nine virtual desktops in a 3x3 configuration:
1 2 3
4 5 6
7 8 9
When right clicking on an icon on the task bar I get the options to Move to
workspace [Right|Left|Up|Down]. But the options given doesn't fit with the
actual possibilities. In the central workspace (5) I only get:
Move to workspace [Right]
Move to workspace [Up]

Furthermore the commands doesn't work as expected. Choosing Move to
workspace Up in the central workspace (5) moves the window to the upper
right workspace (3) and not to workspace (2) as expected.

If I use the Move to another workspace and select the specific
workspace, the window ends up in the right workspace.

I have shortcuts set up for the actions Move window to workspace
[Right|Left|Up|Down] and they work as expected.

If I right click the title bar of the window, the list of Move to ...
possibilities are different from when I right click the icon on the task
bar. The workspace list given on the title bar is correct, and using the
commands from the title bar makes the windows end up in the right
workspace.

So it seems that it's only when using the task bar to move windows that
the problem occurs.

I'm running Intrepid with no visual effects.

Regards,
Morten

Re: [Bug 222441] Re: Missing icons for Office Open XML

2009-02-21 Thread Rodney Dawes
The shared-mime-info package includes the MIME types for the links I've
added to icon-naming-utils. The version in Intrepid does anyway. But I
suspect the bug should stay open until the new icon-naming-utils is
packaged, and the icon theme packages are rebuilt against the new
version.

Thanks! Let's keep this report open since a more general fix should come

Re: [Bug 332541] Re: Hebrew vowels not working correctly

2009-02-21 Thread Ilan Tal
Hi Ciaran,
The one I want is Hebrew. Interesting with the 4 possibilities.
I can understand Hebrew and Arabic, but what are the other 2?
(It is interesting that it chose to use Israel instead of Hebrew.)

 Status in Ubuntu: New

 Bug description:
This has been a long standing problem, but I now have a 100% reproducible
 scenario.
It turns out to be connected to Keyboard preferences, Israel layout, Layout
 switching.
If you check Both Alt keys together change layout, you can use vowels by
 AltGr+number.
This is the good situation. However, if you remove the check box, no new
 vowels can be added.

I found the problem in Open Office, but it is not an Open Office problem.
 It is system wide.
It happens for example also in gedit.

Since no one expected such a weird connection, it took forever to find the
 connection.
Maybe now someone can fix it?
 Ubuntu 8.10

 Thanks,
 Ilan

2009-02-21 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

This bug is of low priority and visual in nature.

If any Visual Affects option other than None is selected, the Power
Management Preferences window is blank.

Steps taken:
1. Right click on Gnome desktop.
2. Select Change Desktop Background.
3. Click Visual Effects tab.
4. Choose any option other than None.
5. Choose System from the gnome panel menu.
6. Select Preferences.
7. Select Screensaver.
8. In the Screensaver Preferences window, celect the power management button.

At this point, the window is blank. It is corrected if I minimize the
window and re-maximize. If I make any changes to the window (ie, select
another tab or move a slider) the window is not updated until I re-
minimize and then maximize again.

I am running Ubuntu 8.10 AMD64.
