[Bug 230749] Re: gnome-screensaver uses too much CPU
Wow, I'm so happy I found this! I had exactly the same problems as you with VLC and MythTV. I've been spending weeks on this issue blameing everyone from MythTV, nvidia, Liferea, firefox, Xorg, and pulseaudio... I even spent time swapping video cards and drivers. My eyes finally opened up and realized that gnome-screensaver was the number 5 CPU time on my system, and I don't even use a screensaver. killall gnome- screensaver is the perfect interim solution to these Xorg CPU spike problems. Thanks to all that reported, confirmed, and upstream fixed it. Go Linux!! In case anyone web searches for this problem in Myth, like I was trying to do for 2 weeks, if you are having jerky playback in Myth (with Myth's internal player) and see messages similar to the following when you run mythfronend -v playback: NVP: Video is x. frames ahead of audio, doubling video frame interval to slow down. NVP: Video is x.x frames behind audio (too slow), dropping frame to catch up. If you use a nVidia card with the proprietary drivers, and you're running Ubuntu with Gnome, then gnome-screensaver is actually what's causing your problem. killall gnome-screensaver is your friend. -- gnome-screensaver uses too much CPU https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/230749 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-screensaver in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 330166] [NEW] terminal bell causes wallpaper to flicker (or redraw, adding a noticable delay)
You have been subscribed to a public bug: When using tab-completion, or otherwise triggering the terminal bell, the wallpaper switches to white and is then forced to redraw. This occurs with every beep and adds a substantial set of delays for someone who is tab-happy. By disabling the terminal bell in gnome-terminal, this behavior is eliminated. I found this setting checked in gconf: /apps/compiz/plugins/fade/screen0/options/fullscreen_visual_bell I disabled that setting (and re-enabled the terminal bell in gnome- terminal) and the problem went away, but I'm using metacity (because i865 will fail from compiz to metacity) so something else is honoring that setting and it is not obvious where I should go to disabled this. [Bug 332512] [NEW] LastFM - only plays the first song
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: rhythmbox If there are currently songs listed in the Rhythmbox now playing playlist, when you play songs from LastFM Rhythmbox will only play the first song in the LastFM list of songs before switching back to playing songs from the main Rhythmbox playlist. Only when you clear the main rhythmbox now playing playlist will rhthmbox play songs from Lastfm continuously. Whilst this is not a 'bug' as such, something needs to be done about it as the behaviour is unexpected - most users would expect for Rhythmbox to play items from LastFM continuously regardless. [Bug 297849] [NEW] Clock/Calander/Locations panel exceeding the right margin of the screen
You have been subscribed to a public bug: When clicking on the clock at the top panel there is a vertical panel that is dropped down. I added a few locations and noticed that when mouse hovered over some of the location the whole panel is being pushed to the right in a way that part of it is hidden (Manchester/New York). see the attachment below. The reason I can see for this is that when the location name his long, the 'Set' button which located just next to it cause the panel to get wider so there would be a room for both of them on the same line. ** Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Clock/Calander/Locations panel exceeding the right margin of the screen https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/297849 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-panel in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a bug in gnome-panel. [Bug 325688] [NEW] Move to workspace [DIR] doesn't work with many rows / cols
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I've setup nine virtual desktops in a 3x3 configuration: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 When right clicking on an icon on the task bar I get the options to Move to workspace [Right|Left|Up|Down]. But the options given doesn't fit with the actual possibilities. In the central workspace (5) I only get: Move to workspace [Right] Move to workspace [Up] Furthermore the commands doesn't work as expected. Choosing Move to workspace Up in the central workspace (5) moves the window to the upper right workspace (3) and not to workspace (2) as expected. If I use the Move to another workspace and select the specific workspace, the window ends up in the right workspace. I have shortcuts set up for the actions Move window to workspace [Right|Left|Up|Down] and they work as expected. If I right click the title bar of the window, the list of Move to ... possibilities are different from when I right click the icon on the task bar. The workspace list given on the title bar is correct, and using the commands from the title bar makes the windows end up in the right workspace. So it seems that it's only when using the task bar to move windows that the problem occurs. I'm running Intrepid with no visual effects. You have been subscribed to a public bug: This bug is of low priority and visual in nature. If any Visual Affects option other than None is selected, the Power Management Preferences window is blank. Steps taken: 1. Right click on Gnome desktop. 2. Select Change Desktop Background. 3. Click Visual Effects tab. 4. Choose any option other than None. 5. Choose System from the gnome panel menu. 6. Select Preferences. 7. Select Screensaver. 8. In the Screensaver Preferences window, celect the power management button. At this point, the window is blank. It is corrected if I minimize the window and re-maximize. If I make any changes to the window (ie, select another tab or move a slider) the window is not updated until I re- minimize and then maximize again. I am running Ubuntu 8.10 AMD64. ** Affects: gnome-power-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Power Management Preferences Window is Blank with Compiz https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/305894 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
