[Bug 47604] Re: Pictures Folder isn't configurable

2009-05-30 Thread Andrew Frank
the screensavers with 9.04 jaunty are still a problem. the Pictures folder
does not display anything and cannot be stopped - only an 'unclean restart' did
work.
a method to put pictures in a folder and have them displayed with a selectable
interval is really needed. the current situation is not satisfactory (only
f-spot is working for me, and interval is not selectable either).
thanks for your efforts!

[Bug 192508] Re: mouse keys turns on randomly

2009-05-30 Thread Wizard_Yo
This was very annoying for me until someone mentioned replacing Vino
with x11vnc:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=45565

I haven't had a single issue after making the switch.

What was happening before the switch:

Mouse keys turns on randomly when using VNC from Windows clients to connect to
Vino on Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron.
 -and-
Periodically, my NumLock would turn off on Ubuntu and I had to physically turn
it back on with the keyboard on the box (VNC never would allow NumLock to turn
back on).

Again, x11vnc fixed it completely.

[Bug 178953] Re: compiz doesn't start if metacity compositor is enabled

2009-05-30 Thread Milan
Martey: Yes, the bug will hit you after you returned to Metacity for a
short period. In particular, this happens if Compiz cannot start because
of a driver problem, because before you fix it you need Metacity to run
instead. But what I said is that if you still suffer from this bug,
disable the GConf key once for all, and everything will work. And for
users that never had their Compiz crashed or blocked, the problem does
not appear.

[Bug 353186] Re: Can't define primary screen in dual screen setup

2009-05-30 Thread mefiX
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 216144 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/216144

I can confirm that behaviour.
I also have a notebook and an external (via TMDS-1 aka DVI) connected LCD.
My Notebook stands LEFT of the LCD and has 1440x900.
The LCD has 1680x1050, so preferred for primary screen.
In previous versions this worked pretty fine.
I tried to get cope with it by engaging xrandr in several combinations (e.g.
one could say --left-of for the notebook OR --right-of for the LCD).
Xrandr also has smth. like --primary and --noprimary.
All these don't really influence the way that gnome choses the primary screen.

I would also say that there has to be some flag to determine the primary
screen one would like to have!

[Bug 44082] Re: GNOME Panel icons (on right side) move apparently randomly on session start in some situations

2009-05-30 Thread Someone
I can confirm this to with Ubuntu Jaunty 9.04, gnome 2.26.1.

After restart, what mostly happens it that the top panel right side
applets (notification area, volume control, etc.) switch places even the
shutdown button and separator.

It happens whether the applets are locked or unlocked, and whether i
change resolution before restarting or not.

This is really annoying and i reall wish it will be fixed.

Thanks,

I've read that in some other posts. However, this problem just started
today. Since yesterday, I've installed several themes and icons. I
also installed code:blocks. I can't remember if I installed anything
else. Is there a install log, that I can check?

It must be one of those new installs that's causing the spew.

[Bug 380643] Re: files with % in name within folder fail to burn

2009-05-30 Thread Schily
In order to verify whether this is a bug in brasero or a bug in cdrkit,
you still need to replace at least genisoimage with the official mkisofs.

remove /usr/bin/genisoimage
remove /usr/bin/mkisofsmatch_hist(
install the _official_ mklisofs in /usr/bin/mkisofs
create a symlink /usr/bin/genisoimage that points to /usr/bin/mkisofs

Note that genisoimage is full of bugs and that genisoimage is
unmaintained. Note that one of the well known bugs in genisoimage
is that it caims cannot sort dir problems where mkisofs has no problems!

Get recent original software from

[Bug 381915] [NEW] evolution setup

2009-05-30 Thread Bruce Mincks
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

The first time assistant apparently started up in the background
without my knowing it. I upgraded a new computer and established DSL at
home for the first time last month. I found that when responding to
pop-up emails from web sites, those messages were getting stuck in
evolution, not sent through yahoo.

I've been through the help deocumentation as I thought I had configured
Evolution, but when I try to send a message, I still get error: broken
pipe without any clarification about the pipe. Part of what is
confusing me is a result of my ignorance of network administration
during the last 20 years of working as a paralegal word processor. I
find that the Unix mbox directory option for spooling is the only one
that lets me go forward, but the pipe is still broken, even after I
reset the computer.

Do I need to have Apache installed for Evolution to work?

[Bug 93408] Re: Nautilus: Eel Warning elements at quit time

2009-05-30 Thread A. Walton
No, it's pretty much there no matter what you do: if you run nautilus
from a terminal, it will spit out junk such as that (plugins init'ing
and finalizing, Eel's overly-chatty hash table warnings, etc). We could
silence it, but it was put there for a reason (to catch real bugs,
mainly leaks that fill the mentioned hash table with NautilusFiles that
lasts until the program is exited).

[Bug 381938] [NEW] Brasero fails to burn more than one CD copy

2009-05-30 Thread stecklum
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: brasero

For burning multiple CD copies of an ISO image I tried to use the Make
another copy option after having burned the first copy. I made two
attempts and both failed in the following way. Brasero accesses the
blank CD for a quite a while to estimate the burning speed , then issues
a quick finalizing message, and shuts down burning. Of course, the
blank becomes unusable. This is with Brasero 2.26.0-0ubuntu1~ppa1 on an

[Bug 381938] Re: Brasero fails to burn more than one CD copy

2009-05-30 Thread stecklum
Folks, that's not funny. Changed the blank type to a more premium
product. Brasero stops again, this time after 83% of the data written to
disk. Error is always the same.

BraseroWodim stdout: BURN-Free was never needed.
BraseroWodim stderr: wodim: fifo was 0 times empty and 9385 times full, min
fill was 99%.
BraseroWodim called brasero_job_get_flags
BraseroWodim stdout: HUP
BraseroWodim stderr: HUP
BraseroWodim process finished with status 254
BraseroWodim called brasero_job_error
BraseroWodim finished with an error
BraseroWodim asked to stop because of an error
error   = 0
message = no message
BraseroWodim stopping
BraseroWodim got killed
Session error : unknown (brasero_burn_record burn.c:2602)

Any clues?

2009-05-30 Thread Bruce Mincks
I'm not using Yahoo Plus. I tried to correct the server setting by
switching to a Unix folder from smtp to receive. The problem is
sending; I've never received anything. I don't know how to check the
pop3 and smtp server settings. Do I do that in evolution or from the

I see that there's endless error messages in my Yahoo error console,
repeatedly saying Permission denied to call method Location.toString.

Maybe I shouldn't have Google as my homepage in Firefox, where I

how to filter out spam effectively. If I knew how to make evolution my

interface. I like the idea of managing my email from my shell prompt

2009-05-30 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

open with gnome-terminaldoesn't work

When in UBUNTU:FILE BROWSER (places) , and seeing a list of FOLDERS and files,

If I then click GNOME-TERMINAL, I get a terminal

It occurred to me that I should be using my new att.net account to access the
old yahoo mail, so I called technical support at AT^T after finding the pop
field on the preferences edit menu in evolution. That support guy told me I
did want a POP sending server if I was referring to that server. I still get a
broken pipe, but now I also get an error message that I don't know my own
password at att.

And, since compiz is enabled by default in newer relases, it should be a

I disagree with marking this as duplicate: this bug is about the going
fullscreen on play; the other bug was about it BLOCKING the play
button from reaching the media player. It may be true that it no longer
blocks the keys from reaching other applications but evince DOES
still rather extremely annoyingly go full-sceen when you try to play or

[Bug 356972] Re: Different logout dialog as for power off button

2009-05-30 Thread Scott Howard
Thanks for reporting and helping make Ubuntu better. Can you include
screen shots of the two different dialogues as attachments to this bug
report?

This isn't an upstream GPM bug, as GPM is doing as it is told and this
problem exists only on netbooks. It appears that netbook-launcher (an
Ubuntu package) should be used to address this. I'll look into filing an
upstream netbook-launcher bug (which is here on Launchpad) once we have
the screen shots. Thank you.

Please tell me the webcam driver version (dmesg | grep gl860) and whether Ekiga
is in v4l1 or v4l2.
If you test only one of these modes, please test the other.
If both do not work, install the version
http://sourceforge.net/project/downloading.php?group_id=229562filename=gl860_2.6.29e.tgz
 using ./install -t instead of ./install.
This enables the traces in the driver, so try Ekiga and post 'dmesg | grep

Right, and exactly what's wrong with that? I think it's a nice feature,
as long as it doesn't block my media players when they're active and
should be the ones responding to the media keys instead of Evince. And
it doesn't any more, since that other bug is fixed (and by the way, it
was a gnome-settings-daemon bug exposed by Evince's behaviour).
