It has been a year and a half since the upstream bug was reported in
Gnome's Bugzilla and it seems unlikely to be fixed anytime soon.

Is it possible to have this fixed in the Ubuntu only? Waiting for the
upstream fix seems unreasonable in a way.

It appears that people do want to disable logging and it the lack of
this feature is a major turn-off for some of them, myself included.

Isn't the whole idea of NTFS-3G to allow proper and full compatibility
with the *Windows* implementation of NTFS? Isn't it to allow true
interoperability? Thus, given that Windows considers certain characters
to be illegal should mean that they are treated as illegal for NTFS
drivers on other platforms, purely based on the premise that it is about
full interoperability.

Yes, the fact that Windows doesn't like certain characters in its
implementation of NTFS is likely an aberration from the POSIX namespace
guidelines, but then it is the *reference implementation*.

Additionally, consider that there are many exceptions to rules within
the Win32 API. The WINE project is constantly working around exceptions
that are undocumented and/or that go against existing documentation on
aspects of the API.

Making workarounds in every little app is redundant and counter
productive when it could and, in my view, should be solved by making
this simple change in NTFS-3G.

I have the title bar problem where each time I restart or log in, I have
no title bars. If I check the Visual Effects, it has defaulted to
'none'. If I select 'normal', after it briefly searches for drivers, the
title bars are restored. I can then select 'none' or 'extra' and the
title bars remain.

However, no matter what I leave the Visual Effects setting at, when I
restart or log out and log back in, I've lost the title bars and the
Visual Effects are set to 'none'.

Also, manually starting metacity restores the title bars.

My problem is not quite the same as the first post, as the position of
the minimize/maximize/close buttons is remembered (I prefer the right),
so once I set the visual effects to restore the title bars, the buttons
are still on the right.

I've tried removing ~/.gconf/desktop/gnome/session/required_components
but this made no difference. The compiz package is installed.

I performed an update from 9.10 to 10.04 and as of 30th April have all
updates.

Any ideas?

Similar to https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/224475, however I don't think
it's related as this shouldn't occur on a WIndow focus change.

I have my laptop plugged into an external monitor.  It's original screen
is disabled, and it's using the external screen.  If I hit a volume
button on the laptop (or on the docking station), it switches the
display to the laptop's display.

Once this also caused a crash of X and dumped me back to GDM, however I
don't have a log of that handy.  I believe it's confined to the NVidia
proprietary drivers as well.


This is new in Lucid and a regression since Karmic.

Computer: Thinkpad T41 (old but favourite;)

I have this problem in the final release of Ubuntu 10.04.
I've removed fd0 from /etc/fstab and disabled in BIOS floppy drive.

And it works;) ubuntu is faster than ever, in the Computer Nautilus
places there is no longer floppy drive.

And what is most importart - I have no floppy drive in my notebook.

No desktop effects
Have added options radeon modeset=0  to created file 
/etc/modprobe.d/radeon-kms.conf
(Seems to stop mouse cursor corruption)

Audio file: in movieplayer works normally, plays ok.
audio file play visualisation - is normal and ok

Before lucid I was in Slack 13 with kernel 2.6.33.1 and the hard disk was fine.

I prefer to expand my top and bottom panels in GNOME to 48 pixels.
Unfortunately, under Lucid's default settings it appears GNOME handles
this by repeating the top-bottom image for the last 16 pixels, which,
when put against a window, makes it difficult to tell where the panel
stops and window starts.

Might be easier if I attached the top of the screen, then you'll see
what I mean.

I know I can get used to this, but it's an annoying usability issue.

I can reproduce this, it is a major bug, and IMO almost a security bug
really - I very nearly uploaded a lot of personal information to a
launchpad just now, attempting to upload a kernel log.

In Firefox or Google Chrome, when I attempt to upload a file, the
behaviour is exactly as described - the file dialog behaves as if,
behind the scenes, all the files listed are in a different order to the
one seen.

So, if you double click a file, a different one ends up being selected
(i.e. a different file appears on the file upload control on the web
page).  Or sometimes, you double click a file and it acts as if you
double clicked a folder (i.e. it drills down into that folder).  If you
single click a file, the correct name appears at the top, but when you
press 'Open' a different name appears on the web page.

As a workaround you might also want to modify the list of automatically
detected code pages in gedit, there is a key for that in GConf:

/apps/gedit-2/preferences/encodings/auto_detected

log shows that it is indeed loaded), but If I ever try to do anything

I'm trying to set up Empathy 2.30.0.1 on Ubuntu 10.04 with my SIP
account on iptel.org.

The account is created - REGISTER/PUBLISH - goes success.

But I can't make any call!

If I do Ctrl+M == New Call, in the drop down list for Account -
the SIP iptel account is not possible to select - it's grayed out
(google and facebook accounts are selectable though).

The SIP account is selectable only for chat (Ctrl+N) - not for
audio/video call.

I do recall being able to make and receive calls in 9.10 with empathy,
so I believe there is a regression.

I tried installing telepathy-sofiasip and restarting empathy but that
did not solve the issue.

Also, adding a contact to the account (5...@ekiga.net) and then right
clicking on that contact also only shows chat but audio call and
video call are grayed out.

Same here. Asus UL50 (both UL50A and UL50V). There is reaction
(notification on the screen) to hotkeys Fn-F5 and  Fn-F6 but it doesn't
change brightness and the notification appears with huge delay (If I
press 5 times last is about 5 minutes later :/ )

It worked fine on 9.10.

In gnope-power-settings there is a slider. With that is can just set
full or zero brightness

Hi, I am running Ubuntu 10.04 (lucid) and I have a problem when logging
out or changing the user.

The first time I reach GDM screen after booting, everything works fine.
I can enter my session and everything is fine. However, if I log out or
try to change the user, the screen resolution changes and in the GDM
login screen, part of my monitor is black (I am attaching pictures so
you can see how it looks). After this happens, the problem is not in GDM
only. If I try to log in again, the problem persists and the screen
resolution is not the correct one.

If I restart GDM service, everything starts working fine again. However,
it is very annoying to reset GDM every time I need to log out/change
user.

I am using an Intel graphic card based on G45 chipset and my monitor is
an LG L222WS. If you need any more information, please let me know.

I have just switched to Ubuntu 10.04 (from openSUSE-11.1) and I
experience a weird bug with evolution-2.28.3-0ubuntu9.

When opening a new message and not closing it, if I quit the program,
evolution won't ask whether I would like to save the message or not.
Next time I restart evolution, a warning appears if I want to recover
the previous message.

The bug is easily reproducible: compose a new message, quit evolution
without sending or closing the message window, start evolution again.

Could you please check and fix this?

When the laptop battery is fully charged and the power cable is removed
the battery monitor does not notice this change, and does not report the
battery as discharging until the battery is critically low alert is
hit.

This affects gnome-power manager as settings such as suspend on laptop
lid closed do not work correctly, when this issue is encountered and
the laptop lid is closed the screen is just blanked (which is the option
for laptop lid close when on ac power).

Running acpi in terminal correctly gives:
Battery 0: Discharging, 95%, rate information unavailable

This bug has affected me in ubuntu 9.10 and 10.04

Solution to brightness problem can be found here. Although it's works a bit
funny*, I'm very pleased. I used the version, where pressing buttons causes
the script to write values directly to the device memory.

* sometimes brightness-step-down looks like step-up, but it doesn't bother
me at all. In general, it works fine.

In latest Ubuntu Lucid (YAY!) with Evolution 2.28.3 (2.28.3-0ubuntu9), if I go 
to backup my settings (File-Backup settings), I am presented with a File Save 
dialog (which is just fine), and then a dialog box warning me that I should 
close Evolution.
This dialog, however, is an unfriendly and unhelpful yes/no dialog; further, 
the text of the dialog does not even make it clear which button to select to 
close Evolution.
This dialog should probably have two buttons - one reading, Cancel, and the 
other, Close Evolution.

[Bug 290313] Re: system-wide proxy does not apply to synaptic

Yep, i got the same problem: i changed my system-wide settings to a proxy 
connection, then wanted to get back to the regular direct connection... and it 
didn't work.
The weird thing is that i can still access the web through most applications, 
like Firefox or aMSN, but none of system-related apps work, such as:
-synaptic/aptitude/software center/update manager
-wget

I cannot find a fix so could you post one for now (i did not know how to
do the one suggested at the beginning of the thread).

Sorry for the double-post, but i actually found a solution that does well the 
trick:
run

sudo nano /etc/apt/apt.conf

then write de line

Acquire::http::Proxy direct;

Then save, and everything works fine (even wget :O ).

In System-Preferences-keyboard when i click the Help button the
Keyboard Preferences application window closes.

Also in Keyboard Layout the Help file is missing.
