[Bug 318625] Re: Rhythmbox shouldn't set illegal / special characters on filenames (i.e. ?; question mark) when ripping to NTFS volumes
Isn't the whole idea of NTFS-3G to allow proper and full compatibility with the *Windows* implementation of NTFS? Isn't it to allow true interoperability? Thus, given that Windows considers certain characters to be illegal should mean that they are treated as illegal for NTFS drivers on other platforms, purely based on the premise that it is about full interoperability. Yes, the fact that Windows doesn't like certain characters in its implementation of NTFS is likely an aberration from the POSIX namespace guidelines, but then it is the *reference implementation*. Additionally, consider that there are many exceptions to rules within the Win32 API. The WINE project is constantly working around exceptions that are undocumented and/or that go against existing documentation on aspects of the API. Making workarounds in every little app is redundant and counter productive when it could and, in my view, should be solved by making this simple change in NTFS-3G. -- Rhythmbox shouldn't set illegal / special characters on filenames (i.e. ?; question mark) when ripping to NTFS volumes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/318625 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 560082] Re: Lucid has no title bars - Metacity issue
I have the title bar problem where each time I restart or log in, I have no title bars. If I check the Visual Effects, it has defaulted to 'none'. If I select 'normal', after it briefly searches for drivers, the title bars are restored. I can then select 'none' or 'extra' and the title bars remain. However, no matter what I leave the Visual Effects setting at, when I restart or log out and log back in, I've lost the title bars and the Visual Effects are set to 'none'. Also, manually starting metacity restores the title bars. My problem is not quite the same as the first post, as the position of the minimize/maximize/close buttons is remembered (I prefer the right), so once I set the visual effects to restore the title bars, the buttons are still on the right. I've tried removing ~/.gconf/desktop/gnome/session/required_components but this made no difference. The compiz package is installed. I performed an update from 9.10 to 10.04 and as of 30th April have all updates. [Bug 572900] [NEW] Top panel confusing when expanded beyond 32 pixels
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-panel I prefer to expand my top and bottom panels in GNOME to 48 pixels. Unfortunately, under Lucid's default settings it appears GNOME handles this by repeating the top-bottom image for the last 16 pixels, which, when put against a window, makes it difficult to tell where the panel stops and window starts. [Bug 558674] Re: Open file dialog malfunctions in lucid
I can reproduce this, it is a major bug, and IMO almost a security bug really - I very nearly uploaded a lot of personal information to a launchpad just now, attempting to upload a kernel log. In Firefox or Google Chrome, when I attempt to upload a file, the behaviour is exactly as described - the file dialog behaves as if, behind the scenes, all the files listed are in a different order to the one seen. So, if you double click a file, a different one ends up being selected (i.e. a different file appears on the file upload control on the web page). Or sometimes, you double click a file and it acts as if you double clicked a folder (i.e. it drills down into that folder). If you single click a file, the correct name appears at the top, but when you press 'Open' a different name appears on the web page. If you need more information than this, please let me know. -- Open file dialog malfunctions in lucid https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/558674 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gtk+2.0 in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 572957] [NEW] screen resolution changes when log out or change user
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm Hi, I am running Ubuntu 10.04 (lucid) and I have a problem when logging out or changing the user. The first time I reach GDM screen after booting, everything works fine. I can enter my session and everything is fine. However, if I log out or try to change the user, the screen resolution changes and in the GDM login screen, part of my monitor is black (I am attaching pictures so you can see how it looks). After this happens, the problem is not in GDM only. If I try to log in again, the problem persists and the screen resolution is not the correct one. If I restart GDM service, everything starts working fine again. However, it is very annoying to reset GDM every time I need to log out/change user. [Bug 572985] [NEW] backup settings option uses unhelpful yes/no dialog
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution In latest Ubuntu Lucid (YAY!) with Evolution 2.28.3 (2.28.3-0ubuntu9), if I go to backup my settings (File-Backup settings), I am presented with a File Save dialog (which is just fine), and then a dialog box warning me that I should close Evolution. This dialog, however, is an unfriendly and unhelpful yes/no dialog; further, the text of the dialog does not even make it clear which button to select to close Evolution. This dialog should probably have two buttons - one reading, Cancel, and the other, Close Evolution. [Bug 290313] Re: system-wide proxy does not apply to synaptic
Yep, i got the same problem: i changed my system-wide settings to a proxy connection, then wanted to get back to the regular direct connection... and it didn't work. The weird thing is that i can still access the web through most applications, like Firefox or aMSN, but none of system-related apps work, such as: -synaptic/aptitude/software center/update manager -wget I cannot find a fix so could you post one for now (i did not know how to do the one suggested at the beginning of the thread). -- system-wide proxy does not apply to synaptic https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/290313 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 290313] Re: system-wide proxy does not apply to synaptic
Sorry for the double-post, but i actually found a solution that does well the trick: run sudo nano /etc/apt/apt.conf then write de line Acquire::http::Proxy direct; Then save, and everything works fine (even wget :O ). -- system-wide proxy does not apply to synaptic https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/290313 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
