[Bug 578056] Re: lucid ekiga failure/libx264.so.67

2010-05-20 Thread gene
There is no libx246.so.67 on my system:

$locate libx264.
/usr/lib/libx264.a
/usr/lib/libx264.so
/usr/lib/libx264.so.85
/usr/lib/i686/sse2/libx264.so.85

If I search for *67 on the net I find it to be older version. Is it the case?
Also apt-get gives this. So somehow the libopal plugin tries to check for an
obsolete library?
$ apt-cache search libx264
libx264-85 - x264 video coding library
libx264-dev - development files for libx264

Off-topic: This is not the only magic I'm experiencing with current
Ubuntu. Alas, as far as the performance, stability and boot time are
concerned, from one dist-upgrade to another for me it is all going down
surely and not so slowly...

[Bug 440865] Re: Visual notification for/correct user response to incoming voice calls and subscription requests not obvious

2010-05-20 Thread Neal McBurnett
I'm running lucid. This was confusing for me also. I got a
subscription request, and saw the notification, and dug around in the
empathy client for a while before I eventually noticed the indicator was
colored and there was an address under the Chat menu item which could be
clicked to respond.

But why not also have a way to respond in the empathy client?

[Bug 578056] Re: ekiga won't start: it cant locate libx264.so.67 in Lucid

2010-05-20 Thread gene
OK, I managed to solve this problem by creating the link
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 13 2010-05-20 02:05 /usr/lib/libx264.so.67 -
libx264.so.85

by cd'ing to and :
/usr/lib$ sudo ln -s libx264.so.85 ./libx264.so.67

Anyways, it seems to be a dependency bug in the libopal code that requires an
older version of libx264 67 instead of 85
Please make sure it is fixed. I am not mark marking it fixed until it is done.

Re: [Bug 440865] Re: Visual notification for/correct user response to incoming voice calls and subscription requests not obvious

2010-05-20 Thread Jeremy Nickurak
It's aggravated by the fact that when I select a VOIP call, the dialog that
than says accept/refuse usually pops up underneath everything.

Maybe in the VOIP case, the indicator should have accept/refuse options *in
the indicator*, so you select one or the other, and the conversation pops up
immediately as a result?

[Bug 568565] Re: gdu-notification-daemon closed unexpectedly - Lucid RC Live CD

2010-05-20 Thread Juraj
I have the same issue. I really wanted to report it but as stated above,
it is not possible. Moreover, after this 'unreportable' error another
one comes (gdu-volume monitor closed unexpectadly). Also this one is not
reportable. After few seconds the whole system completely freezes with
distorted stripes all over the screen and all I can do is hard reboot.
So I do not have a chance to send any log or whatever needed!!!

Obviously there is a problem with VGA drivers or something like that. I
do not have any special PC and what is the most important, IT HAS BEEN
WORKING flawlessly since 8.10 till 9.10 including!! I do not
understand how can happen that once working graphic can be after one and
half year corrupted in so-called 'LTS' release.

I really would like to contribute, send any log, anything that would
help but I simply cant because as said my computer booted with Lucid
Live CD freezes few moments after startup, and after reported gdu errors
appeared. The bug report I submmitted has been ignored so far so I am
trying to repeat it here as it is the same problem.

Then thunderbird opens and works, but fails to launch helper

When I exit and restart thunderbird the same error occurs again
referring to the same file (/tmp/dbus-O3Y0oQrtAn) - there is no such
file in /tmp or indeed any file with a dbus prefix.

From the VarLogDistupgradeMainlog, it looks like the libdvdread failure
was just the final error message, but the problem began earlier on
during the gstreamer update. I'm not sure it's gstreamer's fault but
since that was the first thing that failed I'm reassigning to it for
further evaluation.

[Bug 127725] Re: weather report provide predefined radar maps

2010-05-20 Thread Pander
The link I proposed for the Netherlands should be updated to:
  http://gratisweerdata.buienradar.nl/radar.php

The major difference with maps from weather.com, is that these local
maps have more recent data in terms of history and prediction. Most
people use these maps via a website and although these maps are freely
available from the national weather service, the websites make it
difficult to use the image only (because they wnat you to go to the site
and look at commercials). Or at least they do not offer a direct link to
the image.

Hence my request, if these links are available in Ubuntu weather applet,
more people will use the weather applet since it is easy to select a
map.

Of course these hints of suggested URL should be checked (semi-
automatically) for each release if they still exist and contributors
will have to be asked to update the link when it is no longer valid.

Added my apport above, as I'm experiencing the exact same problem with
evince. I've tried printing via samba to two network printers from
evince, both with the same result. CPU load goes up to 100% for a
process called pdftopdf (one process for each print job) and print
dialogue says Bad pattern.

Printing from epdfview didn't cause any problems, so it does seem to be
evince specific.

[Bug 305850] Re: option to force refresh of the thumbnails

2010-05-20 Thread Vish
Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. However, a paper cut
should be a small usability issue, in the default Ubuntu install, that
affects many people and is quick and easy to fix. So this bug can't be
addressed as part of this project.

-I'm not noticing this problem on Lucid. [or rather very rarely]
When torrent files change/update the thumbnail also updates. yes , there are
times where the thumb-nailing fails initially , usually when the download has
completed the new thumbnail is formed.
But there are times when the thumbnailing fails too , which is much rare and as
mentioned earlier a corner case. Not a papercut.
For further information about papercuts criteria, please read
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PaperCut.

Don't worry though, this bug has been marked as Invalid only in the
papercuts project.

[Bug 175233] Re: Evolution hangs with Formatting Message after several hours

2010-05-20 Thread Andre
This bug is very serious. I cannot deploy Ubuntu to anyone else unless it is
fixed. The usual user cannot be told to use xkill Evolution and give it a
second try. Evolution runs into formatting message on every first start on my
machines (3). It's impossible to close Evolution without killing it once it
hangs.
Evolution is a great Email-Client with excellent integration into Gnome. I
switched from Thunderbird several month ago.

[Bug 583214] [NEW] After unlocking screen, keyboard input is not recognised by X

2010-05-20 Thread Tim Rørstrøm
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

After having locked the screen and pressing a button (or moving the
mouse pointer) and having unlocked the screen, X no longer accepts
keyboard input, though I can still switch to the console using
Ctrl+Alt+F[1-6].

If I open the keyboard preferences (System Preferences Keyboard),
the keyboard works fine again.

The problem appears with the internal keyboard in my laptop, I haven't
tried it on my desktop, since the problem only appeared this morning.
This is on a fully updated lucid system.

[Bug 582027] Re: Changing to non-light themes moves titlebar widgets from left to wrong

2010-05-20 Thread Sebastien Bacher
This bug directly effects the user experience, and badly reflects on
ubuntu.

you are the first one to complain, most users don't know gconf or how to
change the buttons order and see it has been part of the theme, we did
change the capplet logic to apply different order because some users
complained about the default for the new themes breaking old themes,
this way it's applied only for Ubuntu themes which seems to work great
for most users

[Bug 582027] Re: Changing to non-light themes moves titlebar widgets from left to wrong

2010-05-20 Thread Sebastien Bacher
note that we have no interest to spend further efforts changing the
logic of what the code is doing now, the ressources are limited lucid
has lot of real bugs that should be fixed, if you are able to tweak a
gconf key you should be able to do the changes you want too, the issue
described my be a bug but it's low importance and a corner case and not
going to be worked any time soon...

[Bug 567523] Re: Not synchronize the subtitles when the film forward and backward

2010-05-20 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Upstream bug comment

The problem is that the subtitle is not in UTF-8 and you did not set the
correct encoding for it in the preferences.

Despite that, gstsubparse should still show some garbage on the screen.

Do you get the issue using utf-8 subtitles or if you set the encoding?

[Bug 445123] Re: No GUI option to disable face browser

2010-05-20 Thread Sebastien Bacher
 The 'workaround' is very clunky

there is no workaround, the option and the gui are upstream code not
workarounds

I think we would all like to know when we can expect this to be made
available as a patch for 10.04, and if we can see the option in 10.10.

lucid is stable now, there will be no interface changes there, Ubuntu is
not writting this software either so what will happen this cycle depends
of what GNOME upstream is doing on gdm, you might want to contact them
about it

[Bug 525368] Re: problem when adding new panels to gnome desktop

2010-05-20 Thread Sebastien Bacher
The bug might be annoying, but the default configuration has 2 gnome-
panel, do you really have so many users using 3 of those? The bug is
only cosmetic until session restart. We will try to get it fixed in
lucid updates but it's still low importance, arguing over settings will
not make it fixed faster anyway since what it requires is somebody to
debug the issue rather than other settings

[Bug 583225] [NEW] Brasero doesn't burn sftp/smb files

2010-05-20 Thread Xavi Carol
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: brasero

Procedure:
- Open nautilus
- At locatin typein an sftp or smb share
- Open barsero and start a new data cd/dvd project
- Drag files from nautilus and drop into brasero
- Burn it.
- Brasero copies remote files locally and after that it tells the project
burned succesfully. But the cd/dvd (or iso image) is empty.

Looking at the log files it seems that the file has been copied
correctly (and effectively they are at /tmp) but the file used as the
-path-list with genisoimage only contains the md5 checksum file but not
the files to be burned. Even the md5 file is empty.

[Bug 583235] [NEW] evince floods tmp directory with temporary files

2010-05-20 Thread Per Ångström
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

When trying to view a PDF file received from my accountant, I found that
evince did not display more than a fraction of the text, and it was very
sluggish, running at nearly 100 % CPU. I soon received a system warning
about my root file system being almost full, and on examination I found
that my /tmp directory had some 113,000 files:

p...@barbaren:~$ ls -l /tmp/?? | head

Starting evince from a console produces an enormous amount of repeating
output:

[Bug 583253] [NEW] terminal freezes by typing perl

2010-05-20 Thread Kensum T.
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

Well, like the Summary says, if I type perl in the gnome terminal, the
cursor gets into a new line and that's all.

It's futile to wait, because it lasts forever, except you close the
terminal window, but with an program-is-still-running warning, which
you have to ignore.

2010-05-20 Thread Martin Pitt
Hm, the original patch from
https://edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unzip/5.52-9ubuntu3 talked
about UTF-8 file names all along. Unfortunately I cannot read the
upstream bug, it's in Russian.

So if this was about non-UTF-8, it was very misleading. Sorry for
dropping it prematurely then.

[Bug 583261] [NEW] after first sudo nautilus terminal freezes

2010-05-20 Thread Kensum T.
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

If you type sudo nautilus for the first time (important: it have to be
the first time after booting) and then, after you're done with you work
as root, you normally can simply close the nautilus window and the
terminal should be ready for new commands.

But that's not the case. In Lucid 10.4, when you're done and close the
window, the terminal freezes until you forces to close the terminal
window.

Before, in Karmic 9.10, there wasn't that problem. The terminal normally
gets ready after closing the nautilus window.

This little bug can reproduced by typing sudo nautilus in the terminal
after booting up Lucid. After typing the password, you have to close the
window and then you should be able to see the bug in the terminal.

  2) After logging in to that users account, log off.

Actual results: I have a black screen

this worked from the sound of my hard-drive. To be certain, on a

[Bug 580961] Re: unzip fails to deal correctly with filename encodings

2010-05-20 Thread Rolf Leggewie
Martin, thank you for your comment. The question is now how to deal
with this regression. One way is of course to reintroduce the patch
from bug 477755 (not sure if it still applies cleanly). The other
option that seems to be a more general solution is the one offered by
natspec. I'm currently in the process of working with Andrew Shadoura
to try and get the libnatspec package into Debian.

I would think the following is the best course of action.

1) reintroduce (an adapted) patch from bug 477755 for lucid. don't close this
ticket.
2) evaluate libnatspec for maverick

What do you think? Can you take care of part 1)?

[Bug 580961] Re: unzip fails to deal correctly with filename encodings

2010-05-20 Thread Rolf Leggewie
failed to mention the reasoning behind my proposal.

unzip is in main. If unzip were to depend on libnatspec it would need
to be in main, too. This can not happen before Maverick. But I think
we should try to get a fix for Lucid as well, especially since this is a
regression from an earlier version and the solution should be reasonably
easy to implement.

2010-05-20 Thread Erik Meitner
@emigrant: First, try to avoid using bug reports as support forums.
Second, you need to make sure you are actually affected by the bug. When
your screen turns black, can you switch back to a session with CTRL-
ALT-F7 , CTRL-ALT-F8, CTRL-ALT-F9, etc? If so, then you are affected by
bug 40011. If not, then re-read this bug and all the duplicates to help
verify that you are actually having the exact same problem.

[Bug 580961] Re: unzip fails to deal correctly with filename encodings

2010-05-20 Thread Rolf Leggewie
OK, understood.

But I think that's a bit lame. I'm not throwing around blame, but it
seems your upload introduced the regression as part of your paid work
and now you want others to fix it. I have no beef in this, am not being
paid for it, yet I have already volunteered and done all the recent bug
work, started to work on evaluating natspec for maverick, etc. Simply
because I want the Japanese folks to drop one part of their delta to
Ubuntu.

Frankly, I believe you should play your part, being currently on the
platform team or not. Especially since it's probably nothing more than
taking the old patch, maybe tweaking it slightly, testing and uploading.

[Bug 583271] [NEW] The value of Energy when full is much higher than the value of Energy (design) so the percentage calculation is wrong

2010-05-20 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: indicator-applet

Indicator Applet 0.3.7
Description:Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
Release:10.04

I have installed Ubuntu 10.04 on a Macbook 2,1 and sometimes the value
of Energy when full gets way too high (currently 983.5 Wh). This leads
to a wrong computation of the percentage value of the battery. Despite
this the value of Time to empty is computed correctly (currently 2.1
h). The values of Energy (design) (currently 50.2 Wh) and Energy
(currently 43.4 Wh) seem to be correct. If this happens only a restart
can solve the problem and the value of Energy when full seems correct.

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04
Package: indicator-applet 0.3.7-0ubuntu1
ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.32-22.33-generic 2.6.32.11+drm33.2

[Bug 560082] Re: Lucid has no title bars - Metacity issue

2010-05-20 Thread uboops
Hello,
Here too, This issue came up on my computer just after upgrading to Lucid.
Metacity has been working perfectly on this box for years.
FI: I use the free Lucid GPU driver and my graphic card is:
lspci | grep VGA
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV730XT [Radeon HD 4670]
Two workarounds here:
1-) if activated Visual effects = none : starting metacity restores the
title bars.
2-) if activated Visual effects = normal or extra : starting
/usr/bin/compiz restores the title bars too.
but in this case I have this compiz bug :

I have tried, but no gain. I have even removed it... but still the condition
remains the same. /usr/share/gconf/schemas/virt-manager.schemas this file is
empty..
