[Bug 620331] Re: please drop icon from keyboard indicator
It wasn't clear from my previous comment, so: The only way for the menu title to have just text would be to change the appindicator API. And it would be a temporary change, because the goal is eventually for this menu to have, as its title, the same icons as it will use for the individual layout items. However, there are two possible ways to improve the situation for Maverick before the UI freeze next Wednesday. One would be for an SVG guru to write that icon generation code, so that the menu title *can* be just an icon, rather than icon+text. The other would be for someone to implement the Show keyboard menu in the menu bar checkbox, so that even people using multiple layouts can turn off the menu if they don't need it. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KeyboardMenu#5.%20User%20switches%20the%20keyboard%20menu%20on%20or%20off -- please drop icon from keyboard indicator https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/620331 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Ivan, I know you cannot attach the problematic PDF files because they have sensitive information, but we cannot fully help you as we cannot easily reproduce the bug without those files. Wow, now at least I can use it. That changes my life. Thanks!!! Still there is something that could easily be improved: When I select a filesystem mounted on the top of a luks-mapped device, since the device name is like 10 times bigger than /dev/sdc2, it makes the second column far too wide. [Bug 621006] Re: Power manager fails to start
This same BadAtom also happens for me with the open-source Radeon driver, yet does not happen with the binary driver. It looks like the problem most likely lies in the fallback brightness-control methods used when the xrandr backlight property is not supported. [Bug 621024] [NEW] Dual screen mode: setting bottom panel to autohide when second screen has larger resolution causes panel to be difficult to access/use
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-panel This is on a fresh laptop, using a fresh 10.04 and a dual screen configuration. On this new machine, the laptop resolution is 1440x900, versus the external monitor's 1280x1024. So, the main monitor's vertical resolution is lower than the external's. To maximize use of the main screen's limited vertical resolution, I am setting the bottom panel to autohide. Unfortunately, in this configuration, it becomes quite impossible to use the panel. When migrating the mouse to the bottom edge of the screen, the panel will correctly show, then disappear. In most cases, it will start oscillating show-hide-show-hide..., even though the mouse is not moving. If you keep going down, it will eventually not show anymore, until you move the mouse up again. To be able to keep it in view, you have to precisely position your mouse cursor at just the right place, quite a usability issue. I think this has to do with the fact that the vertical size of the virtual display is set to 1024 (highest monitor), which is bigger than the vertical size of the monitor where the panel resides. And since I line up the top of the two monitor when setting up the dual displays, there is effectively a virtual area that exists at the bottom of the main screen, where the mouse is allowed to travel. This causes the weird behaviour. I am unable to determine if this is really a gnome-panel bug (show if we are BELOW the panel) or an X bug (do not allow the mouse to travel below the bottom of this screen, even if the virtual area is bigger). Thank you, and have a good day. I took a closer look at the comments in bug 389182 and you have tried Okular with your PDF files, which still came out blank. So I think this is most likely a bug with Poppler (the PDF rendering backend for both Evince and Okular). Unfortunately, since you cannot attach the problematic PDF files, we cannot fully help you out. However, I did see this information about your files: they were created with Paolo Gios' software. You have been subscribed to a public bug: Hi, I created a ~/.xmodmaprc to turn of the caps lock key and to modfiy some keys on a particular keyboard. When I restart gnome with the new .xmodmaprc for the first time, a graphical requester appears, asking me whether to read that xmodmaprc. I entered the file (and left the dont ask again option checked). For that particular session everything worked as expected. But since the next gnome session, the .xmodmaprc is not executed anymore (thus ineffective), and the requester does not appear. So there is no plain way to have keybordmodifications permanent. Re: [Bug 514782] Re: Brasero fails to recognize erased DVD-RW media
Well, what can I say? Right now I've inserted a DVD+R with recorded, by LG DVD recorder, video. The process has been over perfectly, without any error message. There's been a message that the disk is empty now and at the same time the DVD drive's been opened. My disk was really empty - Brasero erased my disk. IUt DID it. But... When I've inserted the same disk (empty now) once again, my system didn't recognised it as an empty disk, and, when I've tried to write an image on that disk, Brasero said that there's no approporiate disk (sorry, I don't know how they say in English 'cos I use Russian Ubuntu). After that I launched K3B. Without any word, it recognised my erased disk and wrote onto it an information I wanted (a DVD iso image). And now I have what I wanted - but not through Gnome (Brasero) but through KDE (K3B). So i still use KDE for these proposes. It's too sad 'cos I want my system to be enterely Gnome-like. Well, if you want to know, I've updated my system not so long ago. Linux kernel 2.6.32-24-generic GNOME 2.30.2 Brasero 2.30.2-0ubuntu1 Nevertheless, Brasero still doesn't work. P.S. Re: [Bug 528988] Re: system monitor 100% load proc
Hi, Pedro. No, I haven't sent the bug upstream because I haven't many time for describe and trace it (for now I've preparing for relocation), so if you have - You can do this. But this bug is still exist in 10.4 version (under my VMware ubuntu). System monitor is started automatically at boot and exist in panel. It happens occasionally even after boot system (without loading of main window and choosing any tabs), so 100% of proc load (up to 30+% of monitor twice times of % of XOrg) is continued up to reboot the system, and after reboot it can be gone. May be it depends of some activities just after session login in the first 20-30 seconds, because if I eliminate all activity (even mouse drive) within 20-30 seconds after login, then load is not freezes at 100%... [Bug 615803] Re: Computer freeze when removing power cable
Hm, I'm afraid none of the three kernel logs contain any kind of oos or other error message. Seems it freezes so hard and fast that it doesn't have a chance of writing the logs any more. The three things I mentioned (hdparm, pm-utils, and acpi-support) are the obvious candidates for stuff that happens if you remove the power cable. Here are some more things you can try. For those you'll need to do things in the boot menu, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BootOptions#Change%20Boot%20Options%20Permanently%20On%20An%20Existing%20Installation for how to get into the boot menu and how to specify options. (1) Please select the rescue mode, wait until you see the menu. Does pulling the power cable cause the freeze here? Do you see any screen output? If so, please make a photo with a digital camera and attach it. (2) Please append a kernel boot option nomodeset, and boot. Oh, and finally, if you are in the desktop, can you please open a Terminal, enter killall gnome-power-manager, and check if the problem still happens? [Bug 441191] [NEW] annoying software brightness changes
You have been subscribed to a public bug: My laptop (Dell Studio 1535) is able to control display brightness by itself - it remembers brightness settings for states running on battery/AC power. When I disconnect AC power, it dims display automaticaly to state where I left it on battery, if I connect it again, it adjust the brightness where I left it on AC power. Problem is that ubuntu messes it up - it tends to adjust the brightness by itself then and it always switches brightness in a wrong way, not to the level I left it. Brightness is adjusted even on boot - during xsplash, before login is shown, it sets brightness to maximum, when I dim it e.g. to the minimum and then log in, it is again adjusted to the maximum. There is a way to turn software dimming off in gnome-power-manager, but it has no effect during the boot and after loging in, it is only respected when I connect/disconnect AC when already logged in. As software dimming is absolutely useless when laptop itself can control it, there really should be some kind of laptops whitelist for which it would be turned off by default and/or there should be an option to turn it off completly even during the boot. ** Affects: gnome-power-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Incomplete ** Tags: dell-studio1535 karmic -- annoying software brightness changes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/441191 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 619799] Re: Unable to read inbox in Gmail IMAP - shows numbers but nothing else
Hi Pedro, Well I can confirm that Evolution mail is working in an installed Ubuntu 10.04 on another computer. I finally got it to work by appending the port number to the server address, as : -- Inwards mail : imap.gmail.com:993 SSL encryption, Password authentication. Outwards mail : smtp.gmail.com:465 SSL encryption, Authentication, Plain I think that some of the problem I experienced was the delay in syncing the folders with the server as I have 971 MB of mail on Gmail. I set up another account in Thunderbird, on my test-bed computer, under Ubuntu 10.04 and it found the right values automatically. This is much more user-friendly and would be what Evolution should aim for, too.
