[Bug 581023] Re: Rhythmbox becomes unresponsive when playing stream and connection is lost
I confirm this bug on Ubuntu 10.10. I am attaching my debug output for the same scenario as reported in the bug report. Here is my own account that reflects the debug trace: 1) I open Rhythmbox 2) I click on Radio and then choose a stream to play, for example: http://will.atlas.uiuc.edu/media/metafiles/willstream2.asx 3) I cut off the internet connection by right clicking the network-manager applet and clicking Enable Networking 4) I re-establish the internet connection and click on the Stop playback button in Rhythmbox. 5) Rhythmbox becomes unresponsive and must be killed. ** Attachment added: rhythmbox-debug.txt https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rhythmbox/+bug/581023/+attachment/1720357/+files/rhythmbox-debug.txt ** Changed in: rhythmbox (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Confirmed -- Rhythmbox becomes unresponsive when playing stream and connection is lost https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/581023 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 390001] Re: Gnome visual effects not retained after reboot
I found that by booting using Debian Squeeze with the user home directory in a partition shared by Debian and Ubuntu, doing the set up in Debian and rebooting in Debian, the configuration was saved. Booting to Ubuntu then used the save state. So the problem appears to be lack of state saving in Ubuntu rather than jsut using defaults. I use Unison to mirror my home directory between laptop and workstation so that technique cured the problem ont he workstation without having to load Debian at all. [Bug 669824] [NEW] Gnome desktop freeze / hangup after calling xrandr
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm My report is somehow related to Bug #617421 however, effect more critical and including data loss. From time to time it happens that the screen shortly flickers and a second monitor gets detected (by mistake). It happens even without touching mouse or keyboard - this time I was taking notes on paper. The screen/monitor that gets detected can be TV1 when I am working on my laptop only or LVDS1 when I am in docking station with external monitor attached and laptop lid closed (LVDS1 is the laptop-builtin- monitor/screen). When I then call xrandr for example using: xrandr --output HDMI1 --mode 1680x1050 --rate 60 --primary --output LVDS1 --off --output TV1 --off --output VGA1 --off --output HDMI2 --off --output DP1 --off --output DP1 --off --output DP2 --off --output DP3 --off (in this case to switch to the external monitor only), the Gnome desktop completely freezes / locks up. Switching to a text console with CTRL+ALT+F1 for example, does not work either. Mouse pointer does not move - nothing. I have to switch off the laptop and restart. Unfortunately this is not reproducable - it does not occur always. Often the xrandr call is successful without freezing everything. The only thing I can tell so far is that I am pretty sure, that always, when it happens the VirtualBox is started with at least one virtual machine being up (with a Windows guest). I also tried disabling all acceleration features within VirtualBox (2D and 3D), remote display disabled - and I gave 63 MB of video memory which should be enough. Monitor count is set to 1. I'll add my .xsession-errors later from home. One thing I've noticed which is way more damaging is that the .xsession- errors and .xsession-errors.old quickly fill up my home partition by repeatedly logging the same error. After about 15 mins the 19 gig free space in my home partition is gone causing all sorts of problems with software trying to save and read from their cache. [Bug 669541] Re: Add a screensaver in the Screensaver list
I don't know if this is a bug, how do yo consider this behavior: 1) $ sudo gmenu-simple-editor /etc/xdg/menus/gnome-screensavers.menu I can see only manually added screensavers to /usr/local/share/applications/screensavers and the default screensavers installed with packages. Moreover, editing the checkboxes mess up the main file gnome-screensavers.menu. 2) $ gmenu-simple-editor gnome-screensavers.menu I can see the screensavers installed with packages and ~/.local/share/applications/screensavers. No other manually added entry is visible. 3) With gnome-screensaver-preferences I have a random behavior. Usually only the default screensavers are visibile, sometimes manual entries appear but it is not clear how is works. [Bug 586503] Re: /etc/gdm/PostLogin/Default file not run if automatic login is enabled
The bug is still present in Ubuntu 10.10. This is not a surprise for me as there was no reaction from any developer to my bug report on GNOME Bugzilla 5 months ago! ( https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=621693 ) Does somebody have some relations which could help to make this problem investigated and fixed ? I know this bug may seem unimportant as it is mentioned as affecting only 2 people, but I would like to add that I'm working for the public education department in Geneva/Switzerland which deploys Ubuntu on 5000+ workstations, so the real number of affected users is very high, considering this bug makes impossible to properly restore a mandatory profile from our servers. So I hope this bug can be fixed for Ubuntu 11.04, as this is the next version we will widely deploy. -- /etc/gdm/PostLogin/Default file not run if automatic login is enabled https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/586503 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 387269] Re: If I am using the battery and want to brighten the screen as soon as I increase the brightness level the level indicator continues to flash, even if I only adjust it by one click/leve
I'm also affected by that bug. My chipset and graphics card are a little different, Intel GM965 and GMA X3100 instead of the 945GME and GMA 950(probably) on the computer(according to lspci log attachment) of the user who filed this report. I use Ubuntu 10.10. When gnome-power-manager is running, if AC power is unplugged, lid is closed, brightness is changed(doesn't have to be on battery, it also happens on AC power) or even if the computer is sitting there, idle, the backlight starts going up and down, CPU usage increases to 100%, the keyboard stops to respond properly and the drop down menus don't work, so it's the same bug. The only way to get out of it is by killing gnome-power-manager. I don't know which extra information should be posted, but I can post it if required. -- If I am using the battery and want to brighten the screen as soon as I increase the brightness level the level indicator continues to flash, even if I only adjust it by one click/level. I had the same problem with Inkscape in Maverick Meerkat after having installed the textext extension ! I use a Ubuntu server without Gnome/KDE/Xfce. I only use a light-weighted IceWM. Here is the error i got : Gtk:ERROR:gtkrecentmanager.c:1942:get_icon_fallback: assertion failed: (retval != NULL) Aborted I solved it in two times, first by creating the ~/.gtkrc-2.0 with a tango theme definition : echo 'gtk-icon-theme-name=Tango' ~/.gtkrc-2.0 And, as it was not sufficient, I also installed the corresponding theme : sudo apt-get install tango-icon-theme Now, everything is running fine. [Bug 669887] Re: evolution crashes
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Building on it being an SSD/race problem, I decided to add a delay before gnome-settings-daemon would start. The relevant file that I changed was /etc/xdg/autostart/gnome-settings-daemon.desktop. I changed the line: Exec=/usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gnome-settings-daemon to this: Exec=bash -c sleep 2; /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gnome-settings- daemon to add a 2 second delay.
