Ok... A strange solution, but seems to work as a temporarily workaround for at least one IMAP server here... Maybe this points to a problem with Evo's socket buffering or some type of timing/race condition??? On the configuration screen for the account with the original IMAP plugin, enable the Command to connect to server option. Hello, I don't know if I have exactly the same bug. Actually, sometimes at login I get the old fashion default gnome theme instead of the theme I set. When I click in System-Preferences-Appearance generally the right theme is loaded. But some icons in the panel like NetworkManager icon is still the gnome default one. Sometimes, the theme is right at login, but after a while it returns to the old default one. The weird thing is the behavior is not easy to reproduce. I got twice to reboot the computer because X freezed and its process was loading 100% of CPU. The sure thing is the bug appeard after migrationg from Lucid to Maverick. @Mass-Yas. Does not sound like the same bug. In mine at least (and seemingly everybody else's) the theme never goes back to the default. X never freezes on mine. And on mine the theme will not apply even during an individual session. Also, on mine the behavior is very easy to reproduce. I've also encountered this with a RAID-1 array on 10.04. The degraded status can usually be solved by simply re-attaching a drive, but since this isn't done automatically, it'll only be done when I notice there's a problem. And since there's no notification of a problem, I essentially have no RAID. Hi Omer, As described in the bug description, this issue happens when I plug in iphone 3GS to the USB port. I gets stuck in an infinite loop attempting to opening window that say starting file manager. The window don't ever open, but the longer the loop goes, the more that fill up the task bar. After the iphone is unplugged, the window in the task bar go away, one by one. First: The bug is invalid for the upstream gnome-settings-daemon because it was introduced only in ubuntu's patched version. Second: It was fixed in gnome-settings-daemon - 2.32.0-0ubuntu3. Check your version (using synaptic for example). If it's older, update. Third: The bug was introduced on 10.10 not 10.04. As far as I know it was never experienced on 10.04. Make sure you are not experiencing another (new) bug. As all 300 people who have been originally affected do not complain anymore, it may be better to fill new bug report. That will keep this report clean. It will also help you because the devs will have easier time tracing and fixing it (here we already have ~300 comment, no one can find the useful information here). Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools When I run users-admin (gnome-system-tools package version 2.32.0-0ubuntu1) in natty i386, clicking the Add, Delete, and Advanced Settings buttons has no effect. Clicking the Manage Groups button does bring up the Groups settings window. In the Groups settings window, the Add and Delete buttons have no effect. Clicking the Properties button does bring up the Group Properties window for the selected group. In the Group Properties window, changing the group ID to a number already in use by another group does issue an error, but changing the group ID number to a number not already in use or changing which users are members of the group fail silently (as though the operations had succeeded). When I run users-admin from a console, it prints this output to the command-line upon launch: GLib-GIO-Message: Using the 'memory' GSettings backend. Your settings will not be saved or shared with other applications. (users-admin:1337): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_unref: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed Clicking the Manage Groups button results in another assertion message being printed (every time it is clicked). Clicking other buttons mentioned above does not result in messages being printed. When I first experienced this bug, my system suffered from Bug 685349. I had thought that might have been the cause of this bug (though in hindsight I am not sure why I thought that). As a workaround for Bug 685349, I manually changed the value of the gconf2 key /apps/gksu/sudo- mode key from false to true. This fixed my problems elevating privileges to root in other applications, including other gnome-system-tools applications, but it did not appear to have any effect on the behavior of users-admin, including its output to the console. I bring this up to suggest that this bug in users-admin is occurring before any attempt is made to elevate privileges to root (or preventing such an attempt from being made). (This bug is the situation I referred to in Bug 685215 that had led me to try running users-admin as root.) If I submit a patch, would it be a problem to fix the issue by having users-admin display a message like, Users Settings does not support being run as root. Please run it as a non-root user, and it will automatically acquire superuser privileges if necessary.? My concern is that such a message would then need to be translated, which would require the effort of additional people and might not be worthwhile since users-admin is being replaced. Would it be preferable to fix the issue by making user-admin work when run as root? Would you consider accepting a patch that did that? I can reproduce this bug on an i386 Lubuntu Natty Alpha 1 system with yelp 2.30.1-0ubuntu1. (There are no installation media for Lubuntu Natty, but I created the system by installing an Ubuntu Natty Alpha 1 command-line system with the Alternate Install CD and then installing the package lubuntu-desktop.) However, I have another system with a fully fledged i386 Ubuntu Natty Alpha 1 installation (i.e. ubuntu-desktop is installed), on which this bug does not occur (yelp launches fine). When I first experienced the problem, Firefox was not installed (Lubuntu ships with Chromium instead). However, when I installed Firefox (package version 4.0~b7+nobinonly-0ubuntu3), the problem persisted. Firefox itself seems to run fine. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver SITUATION: Created an account without a password and with Don't ask for a password on login checked. Logging in to this account only requires clicking it, this works fine. Then after a few minutes of inactivity the screen saver locks the screen. Now clicking the unlock button: EXSPECTED: unlock the screen. WHAT HAPPEND: Doesn't unlock the screen but fails the password. Tested with an account with restricted access and with a default user account. Of course, it would be slightly better to fix users-admin not working as root, rather than showing an error message, just in case some very special distributions or users need this. But I'd accept a patch showing a dialog too if it's well written... I don't think translators will mind - if you think it's worth your time, they will take a few seconds to translate it. But for the message, it wouldn't be specific to users-admin, rather common to all tools, so something like This program shouldn't be run as root. [Bug 663014] Re: No result for ping in Gnome-Nettool
This issue affects me as well. I am not sure how the information I have could change the priority, or even if the two are related, though I suspect. I configured my guest XP on virtualbox to share the internet connection it has with a wnda3100 v2 usb adapter. Since no 64 bit drivers were written, ndiswrapper does not help to connect straight to 10.10 I was able to then ping outside hosts from my ubuntu client. However I was not able to get firefox to recognize any external addresses. (ping virtual default gateway, physical default gateway and google) I ma using 64 bit 10.10, and sharing the USB connection is the closest I have gotten to having my wireless sub supplying a connection to my meerkat host. OSI would say layer three of four? Seems that fixing this bug might allow for a large portion of wireless connection devices to be ubuntuble. I have the problem on an Acer Aspire One with 320GB HHD. My suggestion at #13 of restarting the gnome-setting-daemon and killing nautilus works every time for me.
