[Bug 628969] Re: palimpsest crashed with SIGSEGV

2011-02-02 Thread FlyingFox
Had reported a bug (711599) which has been re-classified as a duplicate
of this one. For information the following is supplied (note this was a
crash of the application on its own and not the whole system):-

Running live CD 10.10 amd64 Ubuntu 10.10 - the Maverick Meerkat Downloaded 26
Jan 2011.
Checking partition sizes using Gparted and Diskutility (2.30.1) as there
appears to be different information in both programs as to the sizes of created
partitions on the same disk. (Do not know why information is not the same but
do not believe that this problem relates to reported error - eg same partition
is shown as 53GB [53,003,672,064 bytes] in Disk Utility and 49.36GiB in GParted)

Had checked partitions using Gparted and was then checking same partitions
with Disk Utility when this application failed - had been using Check
Filesystem option.
Error was repeatable when checking sixth partiton in sequence caused error to
reoccur.
Partition checked on its own did not cause error.
Error seems to occur when a sixth partition is checked.
Alternating check with two partition also reproduces error on sixth check.
System had not been rebooted at time of re-test.
Partitions were EXT4 on a 320GB WD PATA disk Firmware 12.01B10
Not sure if this has a security implication or not.
Hope that this is of some use.

[Bug 711815] [NEW] Nautilus sometimes won't establish connection to windows share

2011-02-02 Thread Richard
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gvfs

I find Nautilus erratic in it's ability to connect to windows shares on
our lan. Sometimes you get a connection, sometimes not. Once connected,
you're OK. Sometimes when this bug manifests, you get a DBus error
message, then you ignore that, and try again, and you get connected.
Other days, it works first time. See attached error.

How the connection is made.. you get a connection to the share and you
bookmark it. A few days later you try and use the bookmark and you get
this iffy behavior. Sometimes I've tried CTRL to open up the address bar
and then typed in the share name i.e. smb://server/share. It gives the
same error.

We have 4 laptops running Ubuntu 10.10 on a lan in workgroup WORKGROUP
and we all seem to suffer from this intermittent error.

[Bug 36812] Re: Keyboard layout change on hotkeys press instead of release and do not work well with shortcuts

2011-02-02 Thread Oded Arbel
@Bryce Harrington: This feature was apparently dropped from the latest
Natty release ( 2:1.9.99.901+git20110131.be3be758-0ubuntu1 -
http://changelogs.ubuntu.com/changelogs/pool/main/x/xorg-server/xorg-
server_1.9.99.901+git20110131.be3be758-0ubuntu1/changelog ) by
Christopher James Halse Rogers (CCed) with the following comment:

* Drop 208_switch_on_release.diff; upstream

By upstream I figured it meant Debian (the title of the change was
Merge from (unreleased) debian-experimental) and not freedesktop.org -
as I know they didn't commit this fix. On the other hand, I looked
everywhere and couldn't find any reference of such an upstream release
from Debian - and indeed after installing the latest xorg-server, the
functionality has disappeared.

As such I'm reopening this issue and I hope the patch will come back
before Natty is released. Again, thanks for all the effort.

No program, gnome-terminal included, should have a Show Menubar menu
item when running on Unity. So the correct fix for this bug is to hide
the menu item whenever the unified menu bar is present.

The basic interface (Classic Desktop) crashes everytime on startup.
There doesn't appear a gnome-panel or dock, but strangly Synapse is
working by using its shortcuit (CTRL+SPACE). There was also a problem
with a program called Apport which seemingly can't be fixed with the
basic functions of Synaptic. The appearence of all programs does not use
the theme I've chosen except the windows decoration. The background
can't be changed. Maybe this all has nothing to do with the package.

[Bug 711862] Re: Battery power status missing

2011-02-02 Thread Robert Roth
There usually is a power indicator if your computer has a battery (if it
is a laptop usually), so it must be something with your hardware's
compatibility.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Could you please run apport-collect 711862 from the terminal?
You might also want to take a look at the debugging instructions located
at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingGNOMEPowerManager and submit any
other logs related to your problem. Thanks in advance.

This way we might get the information about your computer that might
help us to fix this hardware incompatibility if that's the problem
there.

[Bug 708344] Re: evince fails to load postscript ps files

2011-02-02 Thread Dennis Sheil
Regarding the fatal internal error message, stepping through evince
loading this PS file, we get

(gdb) step
301 in /build/buildd/evince-2.32.0/./backend/ps/ev-spectre.c
(gdb) step
fatal internal error -100
302 in /build/buildd/evince-2.32.0/./backend/ps/ev-spectre.c
(gdb)

Those lines in ev-spectre.c are
   301  spectre_page_render (ps_page, src, data, stride);
   302  spectre_render_context_free (src);

This is a reference to the libspectre library. Which is where the error
message comes from. In libspectre-0.2.6, in the file spectre-gs.c, on
line 47 we have the fatal internal error error message.

[Bug 711943] [NEW] evince spits out glib errors on 11.04 when closing

Public bug reported:

[Bug 707232] Re: Netbook image - no valid session found

2011-02-02 Thread Stéphane Graber
Bugs also affect Ubuntu.
It's breaking LTSP in Natty.

It seems to be because /etc/X11/Xsession without parameters should
start the default X session and not fail saying No valid session
found. gnome-session should just start whatever should be the default.

[Bug 482597] Re: Empathy dialpad tones don't work

2011-02-02 Thread Calabacin
For a change I will comment to say that something DOES work, instead of
the opposite.

Just tried this with our local Asterisk server and calling an external line
using a commercial voip trunk, and I can confirm that the Dialpad DOES indeed
work perfectly with these:
-Linux 2.6.35-25-generic #44-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jan 21 17:40:44 UTC 2011
x86_64 GNU/Linux
-Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat
-telepathy-sofiasip 0.6.3-1
-empathy 2.32.1-0ubuntu1.1

I can also confirm that i would have NEVER found it if not for Darik
Horn's previous post in this bug report, and even having it, it took me
a moment until I noticed that Audio Input was actually a listbox with
the option Autio Input selected, although that's perhaps theme's
fault (I use Ubuntu 10.10 with the standard theme).

So, this is not a bug, specially not in the underlying communication
plug-in (telepathy-sofiasip), but Empathy clearly needs some GUI
modifications so that finding the keypad is not 'so absolutely
imposible'. Maybe allowing pressing numbers even if the pad is unseen?
Maybe bringing up the pad when a number is pressed? How about showing
the keypad by default when you open the sidebar instead of the volume
levels? Since I cannot code, I like to at least give ideas, I hope they
help :-)

Thank you

[Bug 711962] [NEW] Unable to desenlazar (untie??) metacontacts in Empathy

Public bug reported:

I have various accounts in Empathy. Some of them have the other ones in

Fabio - designers - all,

Tried it in booting from USB with Ubuntu Natty release dated 02-feb-2011
(today) in the 32bit and the 64bit versions with the nuveau(?) driver
active brightness levels change without problems!

In meerkat it is now also working after a workaround using smartdimmer
-i assigned with keyboard shortcuts to other keys. With the latest
(260.19(?)) version of Nvidia drivers active.

Cheers,
Oswald

[Bug 698194] Re: apparmor private-files profile should include @{HOME}/.config

2011-02-02 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Tested maverick-proposed using:

 * QRT:test-apparmor.py: PASS
 * QRT:test-evince.py: PASS
 * evince can no longer write to the ~/.config/autostart directory (the TEST
CASE): PASS
 * evince can be launched from firefox: PASS
 * evince can be launched from evolution (PDF attachment in email): PASS
 * adjusting the evince profile to use private-files-strict instead of
private-files, and then open PDF from evolution is denied: PASS

So, this looks good. private-files and private-files-strict are updated
correctly and there are no regressions in apparmor itself or the use of
evince on the desktop.

[Bug 712073] [NEW] natty/unity: No way to stop laptop screen from blanking on lid close

2011-02-02 Thread Roland Dreier
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

At work, I have a laptop dock (for my Lenovo Thinkpad T410s) with two
external monitors connected and AC power cord connected. When I dock
the laptop, the laptop's screen turns off and only the two external
monitors are used. I would like to be able to dock my laptop and close
the lid, but that also blanks screen.

The Power Management Preferences dialog gives only the choices of Blank
screen, Suspend and Shutdown when the laptop lid is closed. It
would be nice to have a way to say do nothing.

Even better would be for the power manager to realize that external
screens are in use and not blank the screen in that case only, if the
lid close action is set to blank screen.

[Bug 711959] Re: gnome-default-applications-properties does not let me choose different default browser then firefox

2011-02-02 Thread elPraga
Ok, can be, but this bug should be reopened, because the gnome-default-
applications-properties should give me the option to choose a different
browser if I like to, and they do not. Before, there was an option to
choose an arbitrary command, which is missing now. I should be able to
have links as a default browser if I choose so ;-)

Please reopen this bug.

[Bug 712091] [NEW] fallback message contains poor grammar

2011-02-02 Thread Brian Murray
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-session

From debian/patches/02_add_ubuntu_session.patch:
+_FallbackMessages=;It seems you do not have the hardware requirement to run
unity. Installing new driver can maybe be a help.\nYou should try the Ubuntu
classic session to directly get the traditional interface.

This is one of the first messages people may receive when running Natty
and the grammar doesn't really make a good impression.

[Bug 712091] Re: fallback message contains poor grammar

2011-02-02 Thread Bryce Harrington
Agreed, this is probably a bad experience to give users. It can pop up
in cases where there is nothing wrong with the hardware, just that the
software isn't up to snuff.

The dialog is ok for alpha releases but should be revisited by beta.

I don't think the dialog should start recommending installing different
drivers, that just seems like fail. If we know newer drivers solve the
issues then they should be packaged and installed.

Honestly I think this is a case where no warning message would be
better. If they know the difference between classic and unity, it'll be
obvious that they're not running unity; this dialog doesn't add to their
knowledge in that situation. If they don't know the difference, then
this dialog will just confuse them and make them worry that Ubuntu is
broken.

[Bug 712103] [NEW] unlocking dialog doesn't show

2011-02-02 Thread Ralf Hildebrandt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

In natty, the screensaver unlock dialog doesn't come up. Yet it DOES
work (it does unlock the screen) but only if you type in the password
blind, press enter and switch to the console and back to X11. If you
don't switch back and forth between X and the console, the screensaver
output stays on screen.

Right, I'd think that jockey would just recommend installing the

[Bug 120251] Re: security check failed

2011-02-02 Thread jan-teichmann
This problem is due to your provider. Some providers reject calls if the
PDUs come from different ports. And this is what Ekiga is doing.

I will try to contact my provider because I guess that Ekiga is sip
conform and so the provider needs to adopt its configuration. But I'm
also not an expert. I just found this explanation during my own research
on the web.
